'Boyfriend can't take photos': a free pose camera that got 100k installs in two and a half months off Indian women's saree photos
What it is Pick a pose or upload a saved photo, and it overlays on the viewfinder so you can match it. Shoot, then make collages and IG carousels right in the app. Free, no in-app purchases.
Why it took off It targets young women in India and South Asia, where TikTok is banned and Instagram Reels is the main arena. The pose library is built around sarees and festivals, it's completely free, and relationship-joke videos from burner accounts and micro-influencers, plus links in comments, moved installs up one step each time a video hit.
BHow you could follow Don't build a pose camera with more features. Copy the playbook for an audience nobody has localized for, such as headscarf-wearing women in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, or Latin American coming-of-age events. Use burner accounts to post relationship-joke content for reach, and test festival pose packs or ads as monetization from day one.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-21 · 11-07 installs 101,976
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
One More Please is a pose-guide camera. You pick a pose, or upload a photo you saved on Pinterest, and it displays that pose as a translucent outline on the viewfinder so you can match it. The feature itself isn't new, and there are plenty of similar apps. It differs in three ways: it's free; its pose library is built for the needs of Indian and South Asian women (sarees, lehengas, Diwali); and it finds burner accounts and small creators on Instagram and TikTok to post videos over and over around the 'boyfriend can't take photos' joke. It proves this playbook is cheap for reach. It hasn't yet proven it can make money.
A comment: 'I saw it on Instagram'
On Sep 19, 2026, a user named P Raj left the first long review for this app on Google Play: "This is the first time I've ever rated an app. I saw it on Instagram and installed it... I haven't actually used it to take photos yet, but I'm looking forward to it. If it works well, I'll be the happiest person, because nobody can make me look good in photos, and I don't know how to pose." By Nov 6, the review had 23 helpful votes and has stayed at the top of the reviews.
Five days later the developer replied, in a friendly tone: 'If you're shooting alone, try burst mode in the camera timer, set the count and interval. I usually prop my phone on a stand, memorize the pose, and use burst to shoot myself 😄'
This review explains who the app's users are, where they come from, and why they install it: young women in South Asia who see it on Instagram and install it because 'nobody takes my photos and I don't know how to pose.'
What it is
The store page opens with that scenario: the moment the lens points at you, you freeze, not knowing where to look or where to put your hands. Then the photographer starts saying 'one more?', again and again. The app's name is that line.
Using it takes three steps. Find a pose: solo, couple, best friends, group, with scenes such as cafés, beaches, travel, and gyms. You can also upload reference images you saved from Pinterest or IG. Shoot: the chosen pose is shown as an outline over the viewfinder, so both the photographer and the subject can see what the shot should look like. After: filters, beauty, stickers, text, collages, and IG carousel templates (the update notes for 11-06 mention 'new storybook-style carousels' and 'photo dump, diary, and travel templates').
On Google Play: 4.8 stars from 377 reviews, no in-app purchases, no ads, no sign-up required (Play page, 11-06). The developer credit is GetPosely; the iOS version is under individual developer Brian Farrell, which has only 5 ratings. The website terms say it was formerly 'Posely / GetPosely', so it has been renamed.
How it grew
| Date | Total installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 08-21 | — | Listed on Play |
| 09-08 | 589 | Almost no installs in the first two weeks |
| 09-28 | 10,809 | 9-18 launched on iOS |
| 10-03 → 10-04 | 21,625 → 40,456 | 18,831 in a single day, the biggest jump |
| 10-29 | 76,924 | |
| 11-02 | 98,567 | +13,555 that day |
| 11-05 | 101,976 | Last 7 days +16,964 |
Data comes from Google Play install counts. The curve climbs in steps: around 10-04, 10-08, 10-13, 10-20, 10-25, and 11-02 there were big jumps, while on some days in between only a few dozen installs came in. Apps buying traffic continuously rarely drop to a few dozen per day, so this curve looks more like one video going viral and lifting installs a step (inference).
Its chart rankings have never been high: on India's Play Photography free chart it ranged between #105 and #185 (10-29 to 11-06); on Nepal's Photography free chart its best was #24 (11-04). In Oct 10 the iOS version entered the top 100 of India's Photo & Video free chart, and in Oct 12 it entered the Philippines. Most installs did not come from the charts.
Where users come from
Instagram Reels is the main channel. India banned TikTok, so young people's short-video scrolling happens almost entirely on IG. The official account @onemorepleaseapp's bio reads 'Pose Camera & Carousel'. Partner creators' reel captions say 'comment "App" for link': commenting 'App' triggers an automatic DM with the download link.
TikTok content is seeded through burner accounts. One account, @pretty_littleframes, has only 99 followers, and its dozen-plus videos are all about this app. Its bio reads 'Your pose inspiration corner... available on iOS and Android.' It looks like a team-run 'authentic seeding account'. Yet one of its videos got 6k views in Nov 91.7, the 'Send this to your friend 🤪' video got 2k in Nov 88.6, and the 'No more ugly pictures' video got 24k in Oct 56.3. Several are tagged #desiphotos and #sarii, featuring saree photos. Another account, @cutiepattootiee_, has 2,313 followers, lists a business-collab email in its bio, and has been posting repeatedly since Aug 24. Its Sep 22 video got 40.9k views with the caption 'App name: One more please, Comment Link to get app.' This is a paid micro-influencer (inference).
The angle is relationship jokes, not features. 'Boyfriend can't take photos' is already a strong traffic theme. In the same search results, an unrelated 'boyfriend photo fail' video got 430k views (9-24). The growth newsletter Social Growth Engineers wrote about it in Sep 30, with the headline 'The new photo app that got 1.3M views off its boyfriend's bad photos.'
Did it spend money on Meta ads? A Reels promo for this app was seen on Facebook, and a commenter asked 'what is premium?' How much was spent and for how long is unverified.
Festivals. The Sep 26 update added saree and lehenga festival poses, and Oct 26 added Diwali stickers. Late October to early November is India's festival season, which lines up with the later big jumps (inference). The iOS version went from 1.0.3 to 1.0.17 in just over a month; the update notes say 'lots of people asked in the comments,' adding male poses and poses that don't show the face.
Who it's competing with
By 2026, pose cameras were already a red ocean, and most competitors have more volume than this one.
| Product | Scale (Google Play / App Store, early November) | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Pose Camera: Photo Ideas Guide | Android, launched April, 610k installs, +7k in the last 25 days | Template tool, relying on paid acquisition and store search; no brand, no content |
| Pose Ideas: Posing Guide | Android, launched August, 390k installs, +7k in the last 21 days | Launched the same month; bigger volume, just a pose library |
| Poseful | Android, launched July, 140k installs, 13k ratings | Similar size |
| Superpose | iOS, launched May; led by Khosla with a $2.2M round, covered by TechCrunch | AI real-time pose coaching, paid, targets the US |
| Photogenik | iOS, launched June, entered India's Photography chart at #14 | Also targets India, but sells subscriptions |
| Onpose, Clicked, Hit The Pose, Empose, etc. | iOS, all very small | Can also overlay your own reference images; most have a subscription paywall |
"Uploading your own photo as an overlay" isn't unique to this app. It stands out in three ways: it's completely free, it's localized for South Asian holidays and outfits, and its name is already a meme, which makes it easy to build content around.
Where the money comes from
It doesn't charge yet. No in-app purchases, no ads, no subscription. Revenue isn't visible and the founder hasn't shared any numbers. 377 reviews on 100k installs is a low ratio, and retention can't be judged from outside. What it proves so far is that this playbook buys installs cheaply: a small account with 99 followers got one video to 90k views. Whether Indian users who install a camera like this will pay through subscriptions or ads is unknown. A review asking "what is premium" suggests the team is probably already thinking about monetization (inference).
how many people know it
Very few. Media coverage is a single Social Growth Engineers Sep 30 brief. Nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 90 days, and I haven't seen discussion in indie dev circles. I found no copycats using its name or playbook. Pose-camera as an idea already has plenty of clones, though, so the category itself isn't new.
If it were you
Bottom line: don't build yet another pose camera with more features. What's worth copying is the playbook: pick an audience TikTok isn't the main channel for, or nobody is localizing for, get free installs, and plan how you'll make money from day one.
Who it suits: 1 to 2 people, one of whom makes vertical short video and can run several faceless accounts, ideally someone from the target audience (women who know the local holidays and clothing). Good fits for copying the playbook into a new audience: headscarf-wearing women in Indonesia and Malaysia, Eid and wedding photos in the Middle East, quinceañera in Brazil and Mexico, Korean-style photo dumps.
Who it doesn't suit: people who only want to write code and won't post video every day, since this category's installs depend entirely on content; anyone planning a head-on US play with subscriptions and paid acquisition, since Superpose has raised funding and the US subscription-wall space already has a crowd; anyone counting on organic store search, since "pose camera" is already held by several template apps with hundreds of thousands of installs.
How to build it: launch on Android first, iOS can come later. The core is three things: framing overlay, uploading reference photos, and one-tap carousel export after shooting. Build the pose library around the target audience's clothing, holidays and settings, update it weekly, and collect requests in the comments (that's how its men's poses were added). Where it differs: test monetization early. For example, keep shooting and pose-finding free, sell premium templates or holiday pose packs for a small fee, or put rewarded ads on the editing page. Don't wait until you have 100k installs to discover you can't collect money.
How to acquire users: Instagram Reels plus TikTok, running 3 to 5 faceless accounts that each post only this one app, plus a few micro-influencers with a few thousand followers. Build creatives around relationship jokes (boyfriend, best friend, mom who can't take photos), not features, and end every video with "comment App for the link," paired with auto-DMs. Post the matching pose pack and videos in the two weeks before each major holiday.
Timing: ship before the next big holiday. South Asia's wedding season runs until February next year; for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Middle East, aim for Ramadan starting mid-February 2027 and Eid after it, and ideally be live and posting videos before January.
Signs you've misread it: (1) One More Please adds subscriptions or ads before January 2027 and installs drop by more than half (meaning this audience won't pay, and volume disappears once you charge); (2) it or those template apps with hundreds of thousands of installs start localizing into Indonesian or Arabic (the audience-switch window gets taken); (3) conversely, if it adds paid features and installs keep climbing by 10k+ a week, the playbook has more room than estimated here, so move faster.

Why One More Please: Pose Camera (com.getposely.app) took off
Channel: Google Play (iOS id 6800703325) | Developer: GetPosely / Brian Farrell (individual) | Research date: 2026-11-06
One line
A "pose-guide camera": pick a pose (or upload your own image saved from Pinterest or IG), and it overlays a translucent outline on the viewfinder for you to match. After shooting, add stickers, text, collages in the app, and export an IG carousel. Completely free, no sign-up, no in-app purchases (Play page "No in-app purchases", apppage.net 2026-10-26 snapshot; the App Store page also lists no IAP).
Verdict
It didn't succeed because it had a unique product. Pose-overlay cameras were already a crowded category in 2026. It took off through choosing the right audience + the right platform + low-cost creator and in-house account content: localizing the product for young women in India / South Asia (saris, lehengas, Diwali poses and stickers, "desi photos"), and posting on Instagram Reels (TikTok is banned in India, so IG is the main channel) and TikTok with memes like "my boyfriend can't take photos" and "one more please," pushing traffic through in-house accounts plus micro-influencers with "comment APP for link" in the comments. Free with no barrier to entry keeps conversion high. The install curve comes in spikes (up +19k in a single day) and rises as each video takes off, not the smooth curve of sustained paid acquisition.
No money is being collected yet, so what it proves is that "this playbook can buy installs cheaply," not that "this business makes money."
1. The data: how it grew
Source: our googleplay library app_day / app_day_ext (historical data since launch backfilled by AppstoreSpy).
| Date | Total installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-21 | — | Play launch (appinsider timeline) |
| 09-08 | 589 | Almost no volume in the first two weeks after launch |
| 09-15 | 6,418 | From 9-09, daily average ~800 |

| 10-08 | 49,887 | |

| 11-05 | 101,976 | 7-day change +16,964 (app_profile) |
- The curve is stepped: 10-04, 10-07/08, 10-13, 10-20, 10-23, 10-25, 10-31/11-01 are all spikes, with low days in between at 20–50 installs (10-10, 10-11, 10-16, 10-24). Apps running sustained paid acquisition usually don't have days where daily installs drop to the dozens; this looks more like content-driven pulses.
- Charts: India Play Photography free chart hovered between #105–185 (googleplay
chart_rank10-29~11-06); best Nepal Photography free rank #24 (11-04, appwinners.eu); on iOS it reached India Photo & Video free top 10-10 and entered the Philippines chart top 100,10-12 (appinsider.io). SGE wrote that it reached the Philippines Photo & Video top 9-30 within 10 days of launch (100). - Ratings: Play 4.8 stars, 377 reviews (Play page 2026-11-06); iOS has only 5 ratings (iTunes lookup). Ratings-to-installs is around 0.37%, not high, but the review content is genuine (see below).
- Iteration: from 1.0.3 to 1.0.17 on iOS, 14 versions over a bit more than a month, "now updating weekly" (appinsider). Update content is mostly Indian festival content (9-26 sari/lehenga holiday poses, 10-26 Diwali stickers), "No Face" poses, and men's poses ("lots of people in the reviews asked for these").
II. Competitors (look at the same category first)
Pose cameras were a red ocean in 2026, with many players big and small:
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pose Camera: Photo Ideas Guide(Tokii Apps) | Android | 2026-04 | 610k installs, 7-day +25k (Google Play library) | Utility template apps, paid acquisition / ASO route, no brand or content |
| Pose Ideas: Posing Guide(Apfolife) | Android | 2026-08 | 390k installs, 7 days +21k | Launched around the same time with more volume; pure pose library, no brand social |
| Poseful(MIND START) | Android | 2026-07 | 140k installs, 13k ratings | Similar scale, far more ratings (may be prompting good reviews) |
| EZ Pose / Pose Camera (vector123) / poby (Korean) | Android | 2026-05~06 | 16k–30k | Small clones |
| Superpose (former TikTok employees, Khosla led with $2.2M) | iOS | 2026-05 | iOS 317 rating (appstore library us); TechCrunch 2026-09-15 coverage | AI real-time pose coaching, funding and press route, targets the US |
| Photogenik: Pose & Photo Coach | iOS | 2026-06 | US store 203 rating, India Photography chart #14 | Also targets India, subscription-based |
| Onpose / Hit The Pose / Pose Genius / PoseCam / Clicked / Empose / Posed | iOS | 2026 | Small | Onpose wrote its own SEO comparison article (onpose.app lists 2026-10-21 8 rivals); most have subscription walls |
| Posely(posely.in,in.pose.ly.ai.pose) | Android / web | 2026 | Not verified | Indian team recommending poses from scene photos plus an SEO web library; no framing overlay |
| Unscripted Photography Posing | iOS/Android | 2019 | 760k installs, iOS 6.6k rating | Long-standing paid tool for professional photographers |
| Dittoed / Posey etc. | iOS / APK | 2026 | Small | A "gallery overlay camera" built by an indie dev on Reddit, single function |
| Big-company features | — | — | — | Samsung / Xiaomi Camera have composition tips, and Snapchat / IG have filters, but none has a native "take a reference photo and overlay it semi-transparent as your viewfinder" feature (not verified one by one) |
Verdict: "upload your own reference photo as an overlay" is not unique to it (Clicked, Hit The Pose, Onpose, Dittoed, Posey all have it). What actually sets it apart: fully free with no in-app purchases + India/South Asia localized content + a brand name with a meme in it, plus editing, collage and IG carousel templates bundled in, so the loop is "shoot, then post straight to IG."
3. Where users come from (growth levers)
- Instagram Reels (main channel, confirmed): the official account @onemorepleaseapp's bio is literally "Pose Camera & Carousel"; the top-liked Play review (P Raj, 2026-09-19,23 people found it helpful) says "I found this in Instagram." Creator @pretty_littleframes' IG reel (2026-10-13) caption reads "#onemoreplease comment \"App\" for link", a comment-keyword auto-DM link (ManyChat-style). TikTok is banned in India, so India volume can only come from IG.
- TikTok owned accounts / micro-creator network (confirmed): TikHub search for "one more please app":
- @pretty_littleframes: only 99 followers and 16 posts, all about this app, bio "Your pose inspo corner… Available on both iOS & Android". It's clearly a team-run "ordinary person recommends" account, yet it pulled 90.8k, 88.6k, 56.3k, 35.4k views (10-23–11-05), tagged #desiphotos #sarii.
- @cutiepattootiee_(bianca, 2,313 followers, collab email in bio): posting repeatedly since 8-24, 9-22 with 40.9k views, caption "App name: One more please, Comment Link to get app" — a paid micro-influencer.
- Official account @onemorepleaseapp: 60 followers, 35 posts, views mostly around 1k; themes include "boyfriend can't take photos," "Pinterest gives you the pose, this app helps you actually pull it off," and Diwali.
- A non-official "boyfriend ruins photos" meme video (@midget.marrie, 9-24.4M views, 3,939 likes) also showed up in the same search, so this content angle itself is the traffic pool; SGE's headline was "New Photo App Hits 1.3 Views From Bad Boyfriend Photos" (2026-09-30).
- Meta paid ads (partial evidence, not confirmed in our database): while retrieving, I saw someone in the comments of a Facebook Reel ad asking "what is premium"; our metaads database found nothing by package name / Page name / domain (that database only tracks advertisers surfaced by keyword search, so a miss doesn't mean no spend). The spike-and-trough shape looks more like content-driven than sustained paid acquisition.
- Store search / ASO (inferred): the Play title "Pose Camera" captures category keywords, so even quiet days get dozens to hundreds of organic installs; keyword rankings not verified.
- Media: only one Newcomer blurb from Social Growth Engineers (a paid newsletter for growth practitioners) 9-30; zero mentions on X (x-radar, 90 days); no TechCrunch-type coverage.
4. Why people would use it and stay
- The pain is real: "the moment the camera points at me I freeze" and "my boyfriend can't take photos." Reviews say things like "I don't have anyone click my photos really well and I am not good at posing."
- Zero barrier: free, no account, no subscription wall. Most rivals (Clicked, Empose, Photogenik, Superpose) use a subscription wall. For Indian users this decides conversion.
- Localized pose library: saris, lehengas, birthdays, cafés, "No Face" poses, Diwali sticker packs. Indian and Nepali girls need these for festival photos, and it lines up with the 10–November festive season (Navratri and Diwali run late October into early November, and that matches the peaks after 10-20; my inference).
- Shoot then share: collages, IG carousel templates and stickers close the loop inside the app, naturally producing "shot with this app" content, and users become the content.
- The developer replies to reviews personally (replies like "I usually set my phone on a stand…"), iterates weekly, and added men's poses based on reviews: small-team responsiveness.
5. How many people know about it
- Revenue: no public revenue (no in-app purchases); TrustMRR and founder revenue posts turn up nothing.
- Coverage: only one SGE blurb; zero discussion on X; the Reddit r/passive_income post "photo posing app made $300" is a different app (recommends poses by outfit/location), not this one.
- Verdict: it's circulating in small circles: growth folks (SGE subscribers) have seen it; the general public and indie dev circles mostly don't know it.
- Copycats: found no clear case of someone copying it (name or playbook), but the category itself is heavily cloned (see the competitor table), which means the "pose camera" idea was validated long ago.
6. Is the differentiation why it worked?
Functionally, no (overlay plus built-in reference photos exist in many apps). What actually matters is the difference in audience and distribution: others run US-market subscriptions with paid acquisition or funding plus media coverage; this one runs free, localized content for India/South Asia through IG/TikTok ordinary-person accounts. The brand name "One More Please" is itself a meme, which makes content easy to make.
7. What's worth borrowing
- In a market where TikTok is blocked, IG Reels plus "comment a keyword to get the link DM" is the main channel; a 99-follower owned recommendation account can pull 90k views.
- Find a relationship angle for content (boyfriend / best friend can't take photos); it spreads better than describing features.
- Get volume free first, then make localized content for festivals (saris, Diwali), with release notes synced to social posts.
- The product makes a shareable finished result (carousels, collages), so users make the content for you.
VIII. Unknowns
- Whether it spends heavily on Meta paid ads and how much: unverified.
- Retention and DAU: not visible; 377 reviews / 100k installs is on the low side.
- How it will monetize (subscription? ads?) is unknown; someone asking "what is premium" in the retrieved results suggests a paid tier may be coming.
- The developer Brian Farrell's background and whether he's based in India: unverified (content and reply tone suggest a South Asian female team member runs it).
- Former name Posely / GetPosely; the reason for the rename (possibly a clash with posely.in in India) is unverified.
