Wheelz: Last one to arrive buys the drinks. A dashcam app rode one meme onto TikTok
What it is An automatic dashcam app for car enthusiasts. Friends show up on your map as 3D cars, you can drive together in convoys, and a paid unlock covers full history and more car models.
Why it took off A map screen recording of "last one to arrive buys the drinks" blew up on TikTok. The official account got 8.94M views on one post, and a group of alt accounts pushed the same script to 7.97M and 5.79M viral hits. On top of that, inviting 8 people gets permanent Pro, so users pass invite links around on Reddit themselves.
BHow you could follow Don't build another car-enthusiast version. Switch to a crowd that "goes somewhere together," like motorcyclists, cyclists or off-roaders, or build a more privacy-friendly version. Follow the playbook: official, founder and alt accounts post the same script daily, and invite N people for permanent membership.

Wheelz is a driving log app for car enthusiasts. Its features are about the same as the five or six "Strava for cars" apps that popped up over the past half year, but it pulled ahead on two things: a screen recording of "several friends each driving a cartoon car, racing on the map to McDonald's," which is ready-made TikTok fodder, and a rule where inviting 8 friends unlocks Pro permanently. Here's how the bit was made, who made it, where the money comes from, who it's competing with, and where you could get in.
A tank drives to Chili's
In 2026 Aug 18, the TikTok account @wheelz.app posted a video with one line of text: "I was the last one, again 😭🥀". The screen shows the app's map: several friends' locations appear as 3D cars, a sports car, a fire truck, and a tank, all heading to a Chili's, and whoever arrives last pays.
By Nov 6 the video had 8.94M views and 910k likes, while the account that posted it had only 6,695 followers. The top comment (280k likes) was "bro finna blow yall all up😭", meaning the tank arrives last so it blows everyone up. The second was "The chilis employees when the tank rolls up", and someone said "Whole GTA server on the way 😂". Almost nobody in the comments talked about what the app was. Everyone talked about the tank. Yet the video itself is just a recording of the app.
Two days later the same account posted "the forklift guys all got here before me", 1.72M views; Aug 27 "last again, gotta buy everyone 5 Happy Meals", 1.27M. On Google Play it had only launched in Jul 20, and by late October it had passed 50k installs.
What it is
It's called Wheelz - Social Drive Tracker, developed by Vortac Labs in Washington State. The company website says "Our product is Wheelz", and they only make this one app. Once you turn on location, it judges on its own in the background when you start driving and automatically records each trip's route, top speed, average speed, and distance. Friends appear on your map as 3D car models, and you can form convoys to drive together. There are 300 car models to choose from, or you can photograph your own car and have AI generate a small icon of it.
It pitches itself as "multiplayer for car guys," a real-life multiplayer game. Shipped on iOS first, 2026-06-02 in; Android came about a month and a half later.
How big the numbers are
| Metric | Sources | |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play installs | 50,512(10-29) → 54,658(11-06), last 7 days +4,146 | Google Play installs |
| Play rating | 2,358 → 2,591, adding 20–40 per day, average rating 4.8 | Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06 |
| US iOS store rating | 4,416 (10-28) → 4,607 (11-06), adding 15–41 per day, average rating 4.7 | App Store |
| Play US navigation Top Grossing chart | From 10-29 to 11-06 it stayed at 76–84 | Google Play charts |
| Play US navigation Top Free chart | #173 (10-29) → #89 (11-06) | Google Play charts |
| Best iOS chart position | #18 in Turkey's navigation Top Grossing, #41 in the UK, #49 in Germany, and #26 in the US navigation Top Free | App Store charts |
iOS is the main platform: nearly every TikTok account's bio says "search "wheelz" on the app store". Its iOS rating count is well above its Play count, so total users are likely two to three times the Play figure (an inference). It also shows up on the Play navigation Top Grossing charts in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, and Argentina, at #110–120.
Where users come from: three layers of TikTok accounts, same script
Official account. These are the opening videos. The hits clustered in late August, and from October the official account posted one a day with the same script ("sorry Abby, I won't be last this time", "why am I always last"), but individual videos only got 2,000 to 8,000 views. The first wave has passed.
Founder account. @alex.gt3rs4's bio reads "22 | Porsche Gt3 rs | building Wheelz". In Jun 24 he posted "they actually dropped multiplayer for car guys irl and BEFORE gta 6", 400k views. After that he posted every day, rotating hooks: "Stop using Life360 to track your drives", "they dropped this literally days before gta 6", and an inverted one, "If u care about your data stop using wheelz". The most recent one, in Nov 4,8,000, got more views.
A cluster of similarly named alt accounts. This is the largest layer. @drivingwtony2, bio "23 | built not bought / search "wheelz" on the app store", posted in Sep 7 "I'm always last, gonna go broke buying people food", 7.97M views. @ride.withsarah posted 18M in Sep 5.79. @kaylidrives, bio "22 | Ferrari F8 Tributo / search "wheelz" on the app store :)", posted 22 in Oct with 730k. @madisonz33 posted 1 in Oct with 920k. There are also @drivewitalex, @drivewithbg, @drivewithautumn and a string of others. These accounts share the same bio format and script, "whoever's last pays", with the destination swapped to Burger King, Starbucks, or Arby's. From outside it's impossible to tell whether these are team-run accounts or paid UGC creators; on Instagram, UGC creators are picking up gigs under its posts (inference: at least some are paid).
Invite 8 friends. The free version only keeps the last 30 days of trips and lets you add 3 cars; get 8 friends to sign up and Pro is free forever. As a result, r/Referral on Reddit is full of the same official template: "Yo add me on Wheelz! It's literally multiplayer for car guys...", followed by an invite link, and some people write "Just need 8 friends to perm unlock the PRO features". One 5-star App Store review says it for them: "Lots of people say the features are locked behind a subscription, but getting the subscription is pretty easy, just invite 8 people and you have it permanently." Others aren't buying it: "Invited 4 people, none of them counted."
No paid ads found. The Meta ad library shows nothing for it or its developer, and the TikTok ad library only shows ads targeting Europe, with none for this. Not finding them doesn't mean they weren't run, but the evidence available points to content and referrals.
Why this one and not the earlier ones
This category was already crowded. Enroad launched in January, with 320k Play installs, 6 times Wheelz's count. Open Road, PACE, DriveGo, and an indie dev building in public on X are all doing "Strava for cars". The features are much the same: auto-logging, speed, routes, leaderboards.
The difference is how good it looks on camera. Enroad pitches "roads you've driven become your territory" and shareable trip maps, which is a stats chart. Wheelz is several cartoon cars racing to the same place on one map, with someone leading, someone behind, and someone driving a tank. That's a short drama with a winner and a loser. The car community is waiting for GTA6, and the visual looks like a game lobby; commenters literally wrote "GTA lobby". And the footage costs almost nothing to make: open the app, record the screen, add a line like "I'm last again".
The other difference is that social and payment are tied together. Convoys and a friends map only get fun when your friends have the app too, and "8 people unlock Pro" gives users a reason to go recruit. Enroad's iOS US rating count grew by only 7 in 3 days; Wheelz added hundreds in a week.
Where the money comes from
In-app purchases run $2.99 to $39.99, with subscriptions offering a 7-day trial and annual billing. The reason to pay is the "garage" and the "history": car people want to see their own car on the map and keep every trip they've taken. It has stayed around #80 on the Play US navigation Top Grossing chart, in a category dominated by Google Maps and Waze, which suggests real people are paying. No public figure for how much.
The complaints about the subscription model show up in reviews too: some people downloaded it from a TikTok, started the trial, and say they got charged the annual fee without a reminder; others think the free version is too stingy.
Its weak spots
- Location permission. It needs "Always Allow" location, which several one-star reviews complain about, and some say it broadcasts every trip to all friends by default. The founder account posted "If u care about your data" and turned that worry into a hook.
- Automatic detection errors. Flights get logged as "top speed 808 km/h", company cars get recorded under your name, and the phone heats up and drains the battery.
- The hit is over. The official account's views fell from millions to thousands, and growth now relies mainly on alt accounts and invites. How much of the post-October growth came from each is impossible to separate.
- "Encourages street racing." Some comments complain "driving 70 mph on the main road to Burger King is insane". If a media outlet or platform ever targets it, that's an easy target (inference).
If it were you
Verdict. Cloning a "Strava for cars" isn't worth it: the category already has five or six players, with Wheelz and Enroad in front. What's worth taking is the playbook: find an audience where "friends on the same map" can be turned into a short drama, and post daily with three layers of accounts running the same script.
Who it suits. A small team of 1–2 people, where someone can cut three to five vertical meme videos a day, and where you're willing to run a dozen alt accounts or hire UGC creators; you should understand the memes of a particular community, such as motorcycles, off-roading, RVs, cycling, or skiing.
Who it doesn't suit. Anyone who just wants to ship features and expects organic store traffic; anyone who can't handle background location and battery optimization (half the bad reviews for apps like this are about that); anyone planning to go head-to-head with Wheelz and Enroad by doing the same thing for US car enthusiasts.
How to do it. Two directions. One: change the audience. Motorcycle riders, cycling groups, off-road convoys: same "a group heads to one place" setup, same racing format on camera, and Wheelz's car models and scripts were built for people who drive. Two: fix its weak points. Location only runs during trips, trips aren't broadcast by default, you can start and stop manually, and you put "privacy-friendly riding map" in the store title and hooks. Copy its monetization: limit free history and vehicle count, and unlock permanent membership when users invite N people.
How to get users. First decide which visual is easiest to film, then build the product around it. Wheelz's is "who's last"; for motorcycles it could be "who gets to the mountain café first". Official, founder, and alt accounts run the same script, posted daily, betting that one or two clear a million views. Name big products everyone already uses in the hook (it uses Life360 and Waze). Make the invite link a line people can copy and paste, so users post it themselves on Reddit, Discord, and car club chats.
When to move. Around the GTA6 launch, the "real-life multiplayer" pitch works best. If you go after a different audience, launch before spring 2027, when cycling and motorcycle season begins, and use the winter to test video scripts.
Signs you've misread it. ① Wheelz drops out of the top #150 on the Play US navigation Top Grossing chart in December, meaning people stop paying once the hit fades; ② "who's last" style videos with a new account and a new destination fail to pass 100k views for several weeks in a row, meaning the bit is worn out; ③ Life360, Waze, or Google Maps ship friend 3D car models or side-by-side convoy features; ④ the App Store or Google Play starts pulling similar apps over background location or for encouraging speeding.

Why Wheelz - Social Drive Tracker (com.gigamow.wheelz) took off
One line
It's an automatic drive-logging app for car guys, where you can see friends' live positions on a map. The main pitch is repackaging driving as "multiplayer for car guys" in real life: background logging, live convoy sync with friends, and 300 multiple 3D car models as avatars. Users mainly come from TikTok. On one side, the official account and a batch of "funny driving" alt accounts keep posting, with the top single video hitting 8.9M views; on the other, a referral mechanic where "invite 8 friends to permanently unlock Pro" sends users off to Reddit's r/Referral to spam invite links. The space is crowded, with many players: the earlier Enroad had 6 times Wheelz's installs. It broke out mainly on content tactics and social referral; the product features themselves don't differ much.
Basics (data)
- Developer Vortac Labs Inc (Buckley, Washington; email [email protected]). The site vortac.io says "Our product is Wheelz", and they only make this one app. The TikTok account @alex.gt3rs4 (bio: "22 | Porsche Gt3 rs | building Wheelz") appears to belong to the founder or a core member. Sources: Play listing, vortac.io, TikHub.
- Launched on iOS first: 2026-06-02 listing (iTunes lookup, id 6774287184), currently v5.7, 4,626 ratings in the US store, average 4.71. Android launched 2026-07-20 (data card); the trademark filing gives first commercial use as 2026-07-18, submitted to USPTO 2026-09-16 (Justia, serial no. 50111516).
- Play: 54,658 installs, +7 over the last 4,146 days (about 8%); rating 2,591 (10-29 is 2,358), 20–40 per day; average 4.8 (data card, Play listing).
- iOS US store ratings: 10-28 4,416 → 11-06 4,607, 15–41 per day (our appstore library). iOS is the main platform: TikTok call-to-actions almost all say Search "Wheelz" on the App Store.
- Revenue signals: On Play's US Maps & Navigation Top Grossing chart it has held steady at #76–84 (googleplay chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06); in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, Argentina and elsewhere it sits at #110–120 on Top Grossing. iOS best results: #41 Navigation Top Grossing in the UK, #18 in Turkey, #49 in Germany, and #26 Top Free in the US store (appstore app_profile). On Play's US Navigation Top Free chart it climbed from #10-29 to #173 to #11-06 to #89, and is still moving up.
- Monetization: in-app purchases $2.99–$39.99. The free version only keeps the last 30 days of trips and 3 cars; Premium unlocks unlimited history, 300+ 3D cars, unlimited friends and convoys, and no ads, with an annual plan too (wheelz.club/premium).
Competitors

Wheelz's weekly growth has now overtaken it |
| Open Road: Drive Tracker GPS | iOS(openroaddrive.com) | 2026-01-10 | about 100 ratings each in the UK and Canada | Also "Strava for driving", with win streaks and driving with friends, but an order of magnitude smaller |
| PACE (pace-mobile.com, Germany) | iOS | 2026 years | Unverified, very small | Emphasizes safe-driving scores, privacy zones and GDPR, and deliberately avoids competing on speed |
| DriveGo | iOS/Android | 2026 years | Not verified | Calls itself "Strava for cars" on Instagram, with added curvy-road routes and speed camera alerts |
| pugson (X developer), a Strava-for-cars app | iOS TestFlight | 2026-07 | Small | Fog-of-war map, fuel costs, CarPlay auto-logging; takes the indie-developer build-in-public route on X |
| Roads by Porsche | iOS/Android | Years ago | big tech | Route-sharing community; no automatic logging or live friend positions |
| Wheelly | iOS beta | 2026-05 | Very small (about 8 thousand views per TikTok video) | Same "car-enthusiast social" angle |
| Life360 / Waze / Google Maps timeline | Big-company features | Already around | Hundreds of millions of users | Life360's location sharing and driving reports, and Waze's navigation and social features, already cover much of this. Wheelz's videos use "stop using Life360 / Waze" as the hook |
Verdict: "Strava for cars / automatic drive logging" has been a crowded space for 2026 years, with at least 5–6 similar apps appearing in the last half year. Wheelz isn't first, and isn't the largest (Enroad is bigger), but it is currently the fastest-growing.
Growth tactics (evidence)
- Official TikTok account meme videos broke out a few times (confirmed): @wheelz.app has only 6,695 followers, yet 1.36M total likes. The "I was last to arrive again" series: a group of friends each drive a 3D cartoon car on the app's map racing to McDonald's/Chili's, and whoever arrives last pays: 2026-08-18 one with 8.94M views and 910k likes, 08-20 one with 1.72M, 08-27 one with 1.27M (TikHub). Since October the official account posts one video a day, each getting 2–8 thousand views; the viral wave has passed. The timing matches Play installs climbing to 50k.
- Founder as creator (confirmed): @alex.gt3rs4 06-24 posted “they actually dropped multiplayer for car guys irl and BEFORE gta 6”, 400k views; 08-07 posted “Wheelz is literally multiplayer for car guys”, 97k views. He posts every day, rotating hooks in the titles: “stop using Life360”, “stop using Waze”, “came out BEFORE GTA6”, “IRS mileage deduction”.
- Sock-puppet / UGC accounts (confirmed): @ride.withsarah (bio says: Search "wheelz" on the app/play store)09-18 one post with 5.79M views, 10-25 another with 99k; there are also @drivewitalex (5 followers, every post carries "Wheelz on the App Store"), @drivewithbg, @drivewithautumn, @drivewith.ash, @tahaa.tariqq, @carswithcarter13, @callmeejaayy and @yvesugc. These accounts share a naming pattern, templated captions and the same "who gets there last" storyline. Looks like a team running its own account network, or paying UGC creators to run one. UGC creators are also soliciting work in the Instagram comments (instagram.com/p/DZtCedYN1pm).
- Invite friends to unlock Pro (confirmed): Reddit r/Referral has many users posting the same official template: "Yo add me on Wheelz! It's literally multiplayer for car guys... friends.wheelz.club/friend/...", and some write "Just need 8 friends to perm unlock the PRO features". The product naturally pulls in friends (convoys, friend leaderboards), and an incentive to permanently grant Pro for inviting 8 people turns existing users into promoters. This also explains why ratings and installs on Play have grown so steadily.
- Paid ads: none found: Neither the Meta Ad Library nor the TikTok Ad Library (Europe only) matched any advertiser for Wheelz/Vortac (metaads advertiser 0 rows; tiktokads adv_map status unconfirmed). Finding nothing doesn't mean nothing was spent, but the existing evidence points to organic content traffic and referrals.
- Store search / SEO (partial): The title includes "Social Drive Tracker", and the short description stacks Speedometer / Mileage Tracking keywords. The website wheelz.club has a "Car directory" (car spec pages, images from Wikimedia) to catch long-tail SEO. Effect unverified.
Why it took off
- Pitching driving logging as a real-life multiplayer game: 3D car models sharing the map in sync, and whoever arrives last pays: that picture alone works as TikTok material. Competitors talk about "stats" and "territory", which don't film as well.
- The best ad creative is the app screen itself: viral videos are basically a screen recording of the app map plus one meme line. Zero cost to copy, and you can mass-produce it with a fleet of alt accounts.
- The product spreads itself: convoys, friend maps and leaderboards only work when your friends have it too, and 8 people unlocking Pro means one user can drag in a whole group.
- Riding GTA6 hype and anti-Life360 sentiment: the buzz before GTA6 launches, plus young people's annoyance at being told by parents to use Life360, both get written straight into the hook.
- Garage and history drive the purchase: the free version keeps only 30 days and 3 car, car fans want the 3D model of their own car and want to keep their full history, so they pay. On the US Play Top Grossing chart it has held steady around #70–80.
Differentiation
On features (auto-logging, speed, routes, leaderboards) it's basically the same as Enroad, Open Road and PACE. Feature parity isn't why it took off. The real differences are two: first, the "social/multiplayer" positioning, with live convoys and 3D car models as a gamified layer; second, the TikTok content playbook built around that layer, plus invite-driven virality. Those two differences are why it took off. They decide whether the content is easy to shoot and whether users are willing to bring friends.
Visibility
It's spreading in small circles. No public revenue (checked TrustMRR and founders' revenue posts, nothing found), no press coverage, and x-radar shows 0 mentions of "wheelz" in the last 90 days. The buzz lives in TikTok car communities and Reddit invite threads. Still, there are already many similar products (Enroad is bigger, PACE publishes long SEO articles, pugson runs on X), so the category itself isn't unknown.
Takeaways
- Find the single feature that's easiest to film for short video (here, the multiplayer shared map), then build the product and video assets around it.
- Official account, founder accounts and an alt-account matrix all post daily on the same storyline template, betting that one or two hit.
- Tie the social feature to paid unlocks (invite N people, get Pro permanently) and let users spread the invites themselves on places like Reddit.
- The hook names big-brand alternatives directly ("stop using Life360/Waze").
Uncertain
- Whether the alt-account matrix is self-built or paid UGC, and how much was spent, is unverified.
- actual revenue scale, paid conversion rate, and US iOS Top Grossing rank (the database only has best ranks from other stores, such as the UK 41).
- After the viral spike fades, how much of the growth since October came from invite virality versus climbing the Play charts can't be separated.
- Privacy (background location) and complaints about encouraging reckless driving, plus takedown risk: existing user reviews already raise privacy concerns, and the founder account has posted reverse-psychology hooks like "If u care about your data...".
