"Get paid to play games" on a Wallet card: Gravy Pass hit #10 on Google Play, but it isn't a new product anymore
What it is A platform where you play mobile games and do surveys for cash. The account is a card in your Apple or Google Wallet; the Google Play app is just a shell.
Why it took off It spent 2025 years building users through its own in-app ad network, Google Ads and batches of TikTok creator videos. In October it funneled those people into a newly launched Android app. A weekly 10 ... 20,000 installs is enough to crack the top chart.
CHow you could follow it Stop building yet another wallet-card task wall. Take the approach of "the wallet pass is the account, the card face shows the balance, push when the balance changes" and apply it to your own points, cashback or membership product as a free re-engagement channel.

Gravy Pass is a "play games and do surveys for money" platform built by an ad-tech company in San Francisco. It doesn't require an app install: the account is a card in your phone's wallet. In October it added an Android app, which gained 19k installs in a week and reached #10 on the US Google Play Lifestyle free chart. It looks like a new app taking off, but it's really a year-plus-old business landing in a new spot. What's actually interesting is the card, but the format is already being copied by four or five companies, so it's not worth an indie developer copying it.
Someone who wanted out of ads got sent to the wallet
In Jul 2026 22, a US user posted on Reddit r/Scams: he was playing a mobile game called "Sled Surfers" when an ad popped up saying he had "unlocked a reward; your Gravy Pass reward can now be added to your wallet." He tried to tap the screen to dismiss it, but the phone jumped straight into Google Wallet. Frightened, he backed out and asked whether his wallet had been hacked. Commenters said they'd seen the same ad, and "as long as you don't tap Add at the wallet step, you're fine."
9 days ago, someone on r/iphone asked more directly: "Gravy Pass showed up in my wallet by itself?" He said he hadn't installed an app in three weeks or clicked any link, and couldn't figure out how a card got added.
These two posts tell half the Gravy Pass story: traffic comes from other people's apps, one tap lands in the wallet, and there is no download step in between.
What it is
A "Get Paid To" (GPT) platform, the kind common in the US side-hustle scene: you download mobile games it recommends, play to a set level or spend a set amount, and it gives you points that redeem for gift cards or cash out to PayPal. Similar services include Freecash, Mistplay, JustPlay and KashKick, all standalone apps.
Gravy Pass's difference is in the format. The homepage at gravypass.com says "No app store needed!" in the first screen: you tap a link, a pass is added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, the card face shows your balance, and tapping it opens the task list. No sign-up; the card is your account. The top of the site reads "Over $8 million paid out and counting!" (company claim, unverified).
The company behind it is Atar Growth, Inc., incorporated in California in April 2025, and the gravypass.com domain was registered in February 2025. Atar's core business is B2B: helping other apps place "offers" in push notifications and in-app messages. Its docs say it integrates with push platforms like OneSignal, Braze and CleverTap, with the slogan "100% incremental profit."
The Google Play app listed in Oct 8 is very thin. The store description says it will "add your pass to Google Wallet, with quick access to games, surveys and rewards"; balance, cashout and support all open web pages in the browser. Version 0.1.5.
Why it's charting on Play now
The users were built before the app launched. The earliest Reddit r/beermoney post is from July 2025. In the Google Ads transparency center, Atar started running ads in Sep 2025 17, and through Nov 6 ran 77 creatives in total, none of them app-install ads; all sent users to a web page to add the card. There are 708 reviews on Trustpilot, rated 3.6.
Oct 26 was the inflection point. Third-party estimates show that from Oct 21 to 25 it added four or five hundred a day, Oct 26 saw +2,651, and afterward 2,400 to 3,300 a day. Google Play's public install count rose from 6,121 in Oct 29 to 25,145 in Nov 5, and the rating went from 485 to 1,835 (Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06). The app description's line "after adding your pass, open the app to view it" and the update note "improved promo link handling" both point the same way: existing wallet users and new Android traffic were funneled into installing this native app (inferred; the trigger is unconfirmed).
The bar on this chart is low. By Nov 6, the US Lifestyle free chart was nearly filled by GPT-style apps: #2 Playout gained 420k installs in a week, #7 KashKick 38k. Gravy Pass reached #10 with 19k in a week. In Nov 6 it first appeared on the Australian (65) and Canadian (68) charts, but the store says it's only for US users aged 18 and up, so this is likely spillover, not expansion.
Another number looks off: the rating count is about 7% of the install count, high for a GPT-style app; of the 1,830 ratings, 1,399 are five-star, and three-star ratings (121) outnumber two-star ones (5) by more than twenty times, with only 126 written reviews. The app probably has a rating prompt or a reward for good reviews (inferred, unverified).
Where users come from
| Channel | What's visible |
|---|---|
| Its own in-app ad network | This is the opening scenario: a "your reward is ready" banner in someone else's game, one tap into the wallet. Atar already runs this business, which amounts to driving traffic to itself through its own network; how much traffic it drove can't be seen. |
| Other people's task walls | One long-time user on Reddit said that in mid-year it "pushed hard for exposure," and on task walls like Adscend it could run 4 Gravy Pass offers at the same time. |
| Google Ads | 77 creatives like "Get Paid To Try Apps" and "Your Wallet, Your Rewards," running in the US, Canada, Germany, France, India, Nigeria, South Africa and more |
| TikTok / YouTube Shorts amateur videos | Search "gravy pass" and the top results are almost all 7 to September accounts with tens to ten thousand followers, all using one copy template: "Gravy Pass got me covered this month" and "Gravy Pass covering my bills this month fr", all tagged #usegravypass, ending with a random code (#17xh9, #5lm2i). It's a textbook pay-per-result UGC program. Most posts get a few thousand to ten thousand views; 11-03 one hit 84k |
| Affiliate landing pages | mygravypass.com, gravypasswallet.com, gravypasstap.com and others, reading "up to $74 a day" and "$45 average on day one." The exaggerated claims mostly come from here. Their relationship to the official product is unverified. |
| Search | "Why is there a Gravy Pass in my wallet" is itself a search query, and review blogs picked up that traffic. |
Where the money comes from
A standard task-wall business. Game advertisers pay for "new user + reaches level N / makes a purchase." Upstream are companies that aggregate these tasks, and Gravy Pass takes a cut and passes part of it to users. On Reddit, one person mentioned a task: deposit $499.99, reward $380–420, plus a 30% bonus. Another user whose payout was refused was told by support: "That's a branded play issue, they're the company paying the games."
Negative reviews center on one thing: not getting paid. On r/HonestSideHustles in May, one post said "I have 5 Gravy Passes in my wallet, adding up to $97.89, and I can't do anything with it." Another said the withdrawal threshold keeps going up. On r/beermoneyglobal last September, a post with 55 upvotes was titled "Don't use Gravy Pass, it scammed me out of $400." The top Google Play reviews read "One task got held 5 times" and "Completed it and still not paid." Holding deposits, reviewing accounts, and raising withdrawal thresholds is the old playbook this category uses to control costs. It's not unique to Gravy Pass.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Freecash | Play 37.2M installs, +478k a week | Standalone app + web, multiple countries |
| Mistplay | Play 56M installs | Veteran of 2016 years, only reached iOS in 2025 years |
| JustPlay | Play 41.3M, +274k a week | In-house games + rewards |
| Playout | Launched Aug 26, 1.51M installs, +420k a week | A contemporary newcomer with a traditional app plus paid acquisition, two orders of magnitude bigger |
| Sushi Pass | Scale unknown, supports 70+ countries | Almost a copy: the card is the account, Face ID recovery, $8 withdrawals |
| The Rewards Pass | Trustpilot 885 reviews, rated 3.4 | Same format, leading with "Get $10" |
| EarnPass, yourrewardpass.com | Unknown | Same format |
The Wallet card format has been copied by at least four companies in 2026 years, and Sushi Pass launched in 70+ countries right away, so the "same product, different country" route is already being taken.
What's actually good about the card
For the Wallet version of Gravy Pass, the card is the reason it took off:
- It bypasses the app store. Apple has never been friendly to "pay users to try other apps," and Mistplay only reached iOS in 2025. A wallet card doesn't need app review and reaches iPhone users directly (inference).
- The conversion path is very short. Tap the ad and it's added. No download, no sign-up.
- Free re-engagement. The card stays in the wallet, the balance on the card face updates, and the pass can push updates, which is a free push channel.
But none of these advantages explain the Play surge. The native app actually dropped the "no download" selling point, and growth came from migrating existing users and ongoing paid spend. Gravy Pass's real moat is Atar's own ad network and task supply, not the card.
If it were you
C. Don't build another "wallet card + task wall." The business needs upstream task supply, anti-fraud, the cash flow to hold deposits and advance withdrawals, plus continuous paid acquisition. Gravy Pass also has an in-app ad network of its own, which you don't. The format is already being copied by four or five companies, and reputation is sliding (Trustpilot dropped from 4.5 in May to 3.6). What you can take is how the card is used.
Who it fits: people who already run balance-driven products like points, cashback, memberships or stored value, and want a free re-engagement channel; people building SaaS for physical stores, events or membership cards.
Who it doesn't fit: indie devs who want to build a GPT / task-wall platform from scratch; people with no paid acquisition budget and no upstream task supply.
How to do it: turn your product's account or membership into an Apple / Google Wallet pass, showing balance, points or the next reward on the card face, and push an update whenever the balance changes. Validate demand with a web version first, then decide on a native app. Both platforms' pass APIs are public, so you can build it in a week or two.
How to get users: copy its amateur video playbook. One shared script, one shared hashtag, one tracking code per creator, pay by conversion, and spread cheaply across TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
Deadline: there is no hard window. Watch whether Apple and Google restrict "task walls inside wallet cards." If they do, the whole format tightens.
Where the call could be wrong: (1) newcomers like Sushi Pass reached Gravy Pass-level scale within six months without their own ad network, which suggests the format itself can drive volume, and this category should be revised upward; (2) if Gravy Pass's Play app passes 200k installs by end of December while its rating holds at 4.5+, that would show the native app is bringing in new users, not just moving existing ones.

Gravy Pass (com.gravypass.app): why it's taking off
Channel: Google Play | Developer: Atar Growth, Inc. (San Francisco / Hillsborough, 2025-04-03 registration) | Store listed: 2026-10-08 | Research date: 2026-11-06
Bottom line
This Play app isn't a new product. It's a shell added for Android users of an earn-money platform (GPT: play games, take surveys for cash) that has run for over a year as an "Apple / Google Wallet pass." Its users were already accumulated before the listing. Sources were Atar's in-app ad network, Google Ads, template-driven UGC videos batch-posted on TikTok/YouTube Shorts, and affiliate landing pages. Its real differentiator is "no app install, the account is a card in Wallet," and several companies have already copied that format. The bar for charting on Play US Lifestyle Top Free is low; 10 top spots need roughly 10,000 to 20,000 installs a week, so charting alone says little.
1. Data (our googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)
- Cumulative global installs 6,121(10-29)→ 25,145(11-05), +19,024 in 7 days; rating 485 → 1,835.
- AppstoreSpy's estimated curve since launch (app_day_ext): 10-21 from 1,718,10-21 to 10-25 at roughly 400–500 a day; 10-26 +2,651 in one day, after which it held at 2,400–3,300 a day. The inflection point was 10-26.
- US Lifestyle Top Free: 10-29 #38 → 11-05 #9 → 11-06 #10; 11-06 was the first to chart in AU (65) and CA (68). The store listing says it's for users 18 and older in the US only, so the AU/CA charting is likely install spillover, not an expansion.
- Rating breakdown (latest app_snap): average 4.60, histogram 1★ 51 / 2★ 5 / 3★ 121 / 4★ 254 / 5★ 1,399,1,830; only 126 of the ratings include written text. Ratings÷installs is about 7.3%, high for GPT-style apps; 3-star ratings outnumber 2-star ones by over twenty times, and the distribution is odd. My guess is there's a rating prompt in the app, or a reward for positive reviews, but this is unverified. The most-upvoted reviews visible on the listing are mostly negative: "One task got held 5 times" and "It was fine at first, then even after completing tasks, no payout."
- Version 0.1.5, update notes: "Improved campaign-link handling and Wallet setup reliability." The store description says the app's job is to "add your pass to Google Wallet for quick access to games, surveys and rewards"; balance, withdrawals and support all send you to gravypass.com in the browser. It's a very thin shell.
- Leaderboard snapshot (Google Play, 11-06 US store, Lifestyle, free): #2 Playout 1.51M installs / 7 days +422k, #5 VYBS 7 days +84k, #7 KashKick 7 days +38k, #11 CashCow 7 days +32k. This chart is mostly filled with GPT apps, and #10 only needs around 20k installs a week.
2. It's actually been around for a while (the listing date is misleading).
- The domain gravypass.com was registered on 2025-02-15 (WHOIS record via The Maker Depot, themakerdepot.com/gravy-pass-review-2026-is-it-legit-or-a-sc…, 2026-10-14); Atar Growth, Inc. 2025-04-03 is registered in California (bizprofile / bizapedia).
- Earliest Reddit posts: r/beermoney "Has anyone used gravy pass?" 2025-07-24, where the original poster said they "couldn't find any info"; r/GetPaidToPlay and r/beermoneyglobal 2025-09-18 have people posting that they were scammed out of $400 (Brave search summary).
- Google Ads Transparency Center (googleads library, advertiser Atar Growth, Inc. AR10188941372883468289): the earliest creative 2025-09-17 started running, with 77 ads total (image 39 / text 29 / video 9), 7 of them active in the last 13 days. Countries include the US, CA, DE, FR, ES, IT, NL, PL, IN, NG, ZA, and more. None of the ads are app-install ads; they all send users to a web page to add the Wallet pass.
- Trustpilot: 708 reviews, rated 3.6. The timestamp in the business page ID corresponds to when the profile was created 2025-09. At 2026-05 it was still 4.5 stars / 850+ reviews (per an article on thebudgetdiet 2026-05-15), and reputation has been declining since.
- Official TikTok @gravypass: 3,991 followers, 890 videos, 30k likes (TikHub).
Conclusion: when the Play app launched, the Wallet version already had a batch of Android users (it claims "Over $1M paid out in the last 6 months" and "500,000 users", which are claims on affiliate landing pages, not verified). From 10-26 onward these users were gradually guided to install the native app, and combined with the traffic it had been buying all along, that produced the Play surge.
3. Where users came from (growth tactics)
- Atar's own "Post Intent Monetization" ad network (confirmed to be the same company; scale of traffic it sends unknown). Atar's B2B business inserts "offers" into other apps' push notifications and in-app messages. It integrates with OneSignal, Braze, CleverTap, Airship, MoEngage, Customer.io, and Iterable, and has iOS/Android SDKs (https://help.atargrowth.com/, docs 2025-07). Its website tagline is "100% incremental profit with no cannibalization." Reddit r/Scams (2026-07-22): while playing "sled surfers," an ad popped up saying "your Gravy Pass reward is ready to claim," and tapping it jumped straight into Wallet. r/iphone (2026-07-13): "Gravy pass just showed up in wallet?" So Gravy Pass is likely Atar using its own network to drive its own traffic: the source is post-exit or post-payment traffic from other apps, and the landing page goes straight to "Add to Wallet."
- Google Ads (confirmed): 77 creatives, running for over a year, such as "Get Paid To Try Apps / Get paid fast for trying apps, shopping, and playing games" and "Your Wallet, Your Rewards." All point to web pages.
- UGC matrix on TikTok / YouTube Shorts (confirmed). Searching "gravy pass" on TikHub, the first 20 results are almost all small accounts from 2026-07 to 09 followers (dozens to over ten thousand). The captions follow the same template: "Gravy Pass is the easiest way to make a little extra money," "Gravy Pass got me covered this month," "Gravy Pass covering my bills this month fr," all tagged #usegravypass #gravypass. Many add a random code at the end, like #17xh9, #5lm2i, #di2973, #n1sxw, #saq5k. This looks like a per-post or per-view UGC creator program using tracking codes. Some accounts literally say "UGC Creator" (@alisonrenee33). Most single posts get a few thousand to ten thousand views; 11-03 one post reached 84k views (@urrrlocalkayla). YouTube Shorts has the same captions and random codes.
- Affiliate / media-buyer landing pages (confirmed to exist; relationship to the official product not verified): mygravypass.com (redirects to track.rewardsdownload.com/click, footer names trustedgamerewards.com, advertises "up to $74/day" and "500,000 users"), gravypasswallet.com ("$45 avg first day earnings," "Over $1M paid out," and advises users to "prioritize offers paying $150+ with 2–3x bonuses"), gravywallet.app, gravypasstap.com ("Get Paid To Scroll"), lorward.website, rwrdunlock.com. This indicates CPA affiliate networks are driving volume for it, and the inflated promises most likely come from these sites.
- Side-hustle blogs and review sites (confirmed): thebudgetdiet.com (2026-05), themakerdepot.com (2026-10), money-making accounts on Instagram, and the "fb-answers" entry on Facebook. The traffic to these pages most likely comes from searches like "What is Gravy Pass in my Wallet," and those searches are themselves prompted by the Wallet card "appearing out of nowhere."
- Legacy users migrating to the Play app (inference): the inflection point at 10-26, the app description's "return to the app to open it," and the update note "campaign-link handling" all line up: existing Wallet users and newly acquired Android traffic were being redirected to install the native app. The purpose may be more reliable push notifications and better tracking, or giving the app a foothold in the store itself. Not verified.
4. Where the money comes from
A typical offerwall / CPE (pay-per-user-action) business: game and app advertisers pay for "new install + reaching level N / making a purchase," and Gravy Pass shares part of that with users. A Reddit user said "when something goes wrong, Gravy Pass says it's a branded play matter, that's the company paying for games," indicating tasks are sourced from upstream aggregators. Another user mentioned "a $499.99 purchase task paying $380–420 plus a 30% bonus" (u/Practical_Bat3935,2026-08). The most common user complaints are large tasks being held, accounts being reviewed, and the withdrawal threshold being raised from $5 to $10 (r/HonestSideHustles 2026-05, a Google Play community post 421349673, a Google Wallet community post 433134990). This is the old playbook this category uses to control costs.

6. What's the differentiation, and is it why it broke out?
- Differentiation: turning a GPT platform into a Wallet pass. (1) No App Store review and no download needed. iOS has long been unfriendly to products that pay you to play other apps; Mistplay didn't come to iOS until 2025 years in. The Wallet card route effectively bypasses the App Store and natively covers iPhone users (inference). (2) The conversion path is extremely short: one tap in an ad lands you in Wallet (as the Reddit r/Scams post describes). (3) The card stays in Wallet, and the pass can push its own updates, acting as a free re-engagement channel. (4) No registration needed; the pass is the account.
- Is that why it ran up? For the Wallet version itself, yes. Atar already does "offers in push notifications / in-app messages," and the Wallet card is a format where conversion happens in one tap with almost no install drop-off. For the Play app's surge, no. Growth on Play came from migrating existing users and continuous paid acquisition, and the native app actually lost the "no download" selling point. The US Lifestyle chart has a low bar, so ranking #10 there means little.
- The format is already being copied (Sushi Pass, The Rewards Pass, EarnPass, etc.). The moat is mainly Atar's own traffic network and task supply, not the format.
7. How many people have seen it
- No public revenue, not on TrustMRR, and no founder sharing numbers. Across the five X circles we track, it was mentioned 0 times in the last 30 days (x-radar). No tech media coverage spotted.
- Discussion is concentrated in the side-hustle / GPT circles: Reddit's r/beermoney, r/GetPaidToPlay, r/Scams, plus Trustpilot, money-making blogs, and the BBB Scam Tracker (2026-07). Also, many ordinary users who see a mysterious new card in Wallet go searching for it, so it has some mainstream awareness, though mostly negative.
- Verdict: it's being talked about in small circles. But the "GPT via Wallet card" format is already being followed by 4+ other players.
8. What others can learn
- Turning an account / membership into a Wallet pass: one-tap install, no store review, the balance shown on the card face, and free re-engagement through pass updates. Any product driven by "point balance + re-engagement" can use this (points, cashback, memberships).
- Use the Wallet card to prove demand and build users first, then launch a native app to catch them, and use legacy users to push the app up a low-bar category chart in the store.
- UGC matrix: one unified template, one shared hashtag (#usegravypass), a random tracking code on each post for performance-based payouts, enabling low-cost seeding across TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
- Use your own B2B ad network (push / in-app offers) to drive traffic to your own C-end product.
9. Still unclear
- How much traffic Atar's own network sends to Gravy Pass; whether the affiliate landing pages (mygravypass.com, etc.) are official affiliates or third-party clones.
- The rating is high but the distribution is odd: are there incentivized reviews or forced prompts?
- What specifically triggered the inflection at 10-26: in-app prompts, a new version release, or a change in acquisition?
- User count and actual payout amount (the landing page says 500k users and $1M+ paid out; neither is verified).
- When Sushi Pass and The Rewards Pass launched, and how big they got.
- Whether this can keep working on Apple Wallet over time (depends on whether Apple / Google restrict "task walls" inside Wallet cards).
