# A TikTok account with 230k followers built a dating app with only East Asian men

**What it is** A dating app where the men are only East Asian men from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, and women of every ethnicity come to find them. No swiping, subscription $29.99/month.

**Why it caught on** The founder Baba's TikTok account has spent over a year on one topic, how women can meet East Asian men. The app launched with an audience already wanting exactly that; he posts 4–6 videos a day and funnels them into the app.

**C** **How you could apply it** Don't copy the app itself. First make identity content for a group that loses out in mainstream dating markets, and only launch a product once you have tens of thousands of viewers. The supply side has to be recruited separately, and fraud prevention should be built from day one.

C grade: the growth came from a personal content account the founder spent over a year building, which followers can't replicate. It's still small (7174 installs on Play), and reviews keep complaining about too few men and too many scammers; revenue isn't visible. The lesson worth taking is "content first, product second", but copying the app directly isn't worth it. Chatter in small circles

HubbaBaba is a dating app where the men are only East Asian men and the women come from every ethnicity. It launched in September and got 7000+ downloads in two months, with no visible paid ads; almost all users came from the founder's own TikTok. The case teaches one playbook: build content to gather an audience, then build an app for that audience. But it's still small, short on male users, and the momentum depends on the founder as a person. More below.

### A comment: "I'm a Slavic girl, how do I download this Chinese dating app?"

2026 Sep 3, on the app's third day, TikTok account @super_baba_007 posted a video tagged #slavicwomen #chinesemen #hinge #hesasian. By Nov 6 it had 276K views and 848 comments. The most-liked comments:

> "I don't know how I ended up here, but..." (4689 likes) "I'm a Slavic girl, how do I download the Chinese dating app?" (4112 likes) "Pack your bags girls, we're moving to China." (438 likes) "You should build a platform for these connections to happen. I think a lot of Polish women would love to meet you guys, they just don't know how."

The person who wrote that last comment didn't know the platform had launched two days earlier, with the download link sitting in the profile bio.

The account owner calls himself "Baba", with 234k followers, about 3.9M likes in total and 3218 videos (TikTok profile, 11-06). The account wasn't opened for the app. In August 2025 it already had a video about Black women dating Asian men (Blasian) that hit 320k views; the pinned video in Apr 2026 20 was "Baba's webinar #babainnercircle", with 790k views, teaching women where to go and how to meet Asian men. The comments were full of "I'm listening", "noting this down", "my husband says I'm not allowed to go". In other words, before the launch he was already selling dating advice and a community, and the app is the next product in that business.

### What it is

The store page's first line is "Stop swiping. Start connecting." The rules are simple:

- **Men only East Asian** : China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan. Women are open to all: Asian, white, Black, Latina. The community calls these AMWF, AMBW, AMLF, AMAF, where the first two letters stand for Asian men and the rest for the woman's ethnicity.

- **No swiping** : you browse profiles yourself, signal interest with eye contact, and ask a question before you start talking.

- **East Asian-flavored filters** : height, income, language, zodiac sign, blood type; plus a "family members set you up" mode.

- **Date spot recommendations in chat** : suggests nearby independent Asian restaurants and cafés. Merchants join free; UGC creators who bring in customers earn commission on verified redemptions (official site, announced 11-06).

- **Pricing** : subscription $29.99/month, Google Play in-app purchases $29.99–109.99 (official FAQ, Play store page). Free users have daily limits on profiles they can view and questions they can send; "who viewed me" requires payment.

The developer credit goes to Aima Interactive, a web agency in Barcelona; the official site's copyright holder is Hubba BaBa Inc. Likely Baba outsourced development and publishing to this agency (inference).

### How it's doing: small, but growing daily

| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Launched | iOS 9-01,Google Play 9-18 | App Store, Google Play |
| Google Play cumulative installs | 7174, +1302 in the last 7 days | Google Play,11-06 |
| History | 10-05 about 2400,10-22 about 5300 | Third-party estimate |
| Rating | 89 on Play, 80 on iOS, average 4.49 | Two stores, 11-06 |
| Charts | #90 on the Nigeria free dating chart, #159 in the US store; 13 Top Grossing dating chart #121–200 | Google Play charts, 11-06 |

A hundred or two new installs a day, a flat curve with no real spike. The shape looks more like daily videos steadily bringing people in than a concentrated ad push (inference). Meta's ad library turns up nothing under the page name, domain or package name. Its top-grossing rank sits between #120 and #200, mostly in low-barrier storefronts like Nigeria, Vietnam and the Philippines; that shows people are paying, but not how much revenue there is.

### Where users come from: 4–6 videos a day

Almost entirely Baba's own TikTok, cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook. After launch he posted very frequently: 83 videos in October, and 31 in the first 6 days of November. Most videos get a few hundred to twenty thousand views; a handful of hits carry the numbers: 9-21 one #whitechicks #amwf video at 510k views, 9-03 the Slavic women video at 276k, and two more at 150k in October.

The topics follow a few fixed patterns:

- **Split by women's ethnicity** : Slavic women, white women, Black women, Indigenous women, each with its own batch. The 9-21 video with 510k views had the caption "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you're beautiful!", and hundreds of women in the comments posted photos with their Asian boyfriends: "we've been together almost 16 years".

- **Riding East Asian pop culture** : K-pop, BTS, Chinese dramas, Korean skincare, pulling in fans who already like East Asian men.

- **Replying to comments** : lots of "Replying to @xxx", with questions from the comments turned into the next video's topic.

- **Founder diaries and scam warnings** : "tech startup journey" compilations, #scammeralert.

- **Conversion** : "Comment 'baba' and I'll send you the free download link", using keyword-triggered auto DMs.

On Reddit there's only one thread on r/AMBW, "Has anyone tried Hubba Baba?", and nobody has mentioned it on X in the last 90 days; no media coverage either. It only circulates within Baba's fan circle, and few outsiders know about it.

There's also a coincidence in timing: in August 2026, a San Francisco event called "WMAF Meet", which only paired white men with Asian women, got coverage from KRON4, SFist and other local outlets and a heated TikTok debate. HubbaBaba teased its launch in August 13 and launched in Sep 1, doing the opposite. I didn't find a video where Baba directly responds to that event, so any connection is inference.

### Why this one

Dating apps usually struggle most with women at cold start. Baba's audience was already "women who want to meet East Asian men", so the app launched with that side already in place. East Asian men have long had a rough time on mainstream dating apps (r/AsianMasculinity has discussed it for years), and a place where women actively look for them is one they're willing to join.

The positioning is narrow but cross-ethnic. It isn't generic "Asian dating" but "East Asian men only". So women of every ethnicity can get their own topics, and there are more topics than he can post. The chart presence scattered across Nigeria, South Africa, the Philippines and India also lines up with where the AMBW and K-pop fan communities are (inference).

No second app in the stores does this. The established AsianDating (3.88M installs on Play) and DateAsia serve Western men looking for Asian women; EME Hive (920k) is Asian-to-Asian; Hinge and Tinder can filter by ethnicity, but none offers a pool of only East Asian men. Ethnicity-specific dating apps have precedent, such as Dil Mil (2.9M) for South Asians, but "East Asian men × women of every ethnicity" hasn't been done.

### What users complain about: too many women, too few men, and a lot of scammers

The App Store reviews make the problem clear, and it runs against what you'd expect: this app is short on men.

> "It's pretty new, so there aren't many choices. I can only speak from my own experience as a Black woman: this is the first dating app where nobody has responded to me at all... and I paid for the subscription." (9-29,2 stars) "Used it for almost a month, I'm happy with my photos and reached out several times, didn't get a single message back." (9-29,4 stars) "There still aren't many Asian men on here, and most aren't near my city." (9-18,3 stars) "Lots of women, haven't come across many men yet." (9-14,5 stars)

The second issue is scammers: "In under a week I reported about 10 accounts, all using the same photos of Korean fitness models" (9-10); "The first match asked me for money within three days" (10-13). In Nov 6 the official site announced an anti-"pig butchering" tool, likely a response to this. The third issue is price: "Most features are behind the paywall and there aren't many people, so $30 a month feels more like a premium service" (9-28).

The positive reviews say a lot too: "I hadn't used a dating app in ten years, saw it on TikTok and waited for it to launch; where I live I simply can't meet the men I'm looking for" (9-18). "Thanks for having a real person behind this app" (9-09). Many people are coming for Baba himself.

### If it were you

**In one line** : the playbook is worth learning, the product isn't worth copying. It took off because a founder had already built an audience over more than a year, and followers can't get that.

**Who it suits** : someone already running an identity-focused content account, even with only tens of thousands of followers, whose audience happens to be the side that's scarce in some dating market. For example, a group defined by ethnicity, faith, height or body type that loses out on mainstream apps but has a dedicated set of people who prefer them.

**Who it doesn't suit** : someone with no content account who wants to build a "single-ethnicity dating app" from scratch through paid acquisition or SEO. Dating is a two-sided market and both sides need cold start. HubbaBaba already had an audience of women, and two months after launch it's still short on men; someone with no audience never gets this far.

**How to do it** : first spend 3–6 months on content, picking topics around "the side mainstream apps fail × the side that loves them", posting several times a day and using audience comments as topic ideas, until you have tens of thousands of people who identify with you before launching a product. The product can start very light, such as a waitlist plus a community, before building an app. HubbaBaba's lesson is that the supply side (here, East Asian men) has to be recruited deliberately, not left to content to deliver. Fraud prevention should start on day one: verification, limits on sending links from new accounts, and immediate bans after reports.

**How to acquire users** : mainly short TikTok and Instagram videos fronted by the founder, paired with keyword-triggered auto DMs that send the download link; recruit the supply side in their own communities, such as forums like r/AsianMasculinity and offline events.

**Is now the time** : this position isn't time-sensitive. It doesn't rely on a platform loophole, and there's no crowd of copycats yet. The real barrier is the content account, which takes about a year to build.

**What the wrong read looks like** : if HubbaBaba is still getting about a thousand-plus installs a week by early 2027, and the App Store reviews are still "no one replies," then "creator content can bring in women" hasn't solved the density problem for dating apps, and this playbook's ceiling is one founder's fanbase. On the flip side, if a second creator runs the same playbook on a different audience and it works, that means it's a copyable template, not just Baba's thing.

## HubbaBaba (Hubba BaBa): a dating app built specifically for women to meet East Asian men

> Channel: Google Play (com.hubbababa.app), also iOS (id6779615666) and a web version. Research date 2026-11-06.

### Bottom line

HubbaBaba's growth came from the founder "Baba"'s own TikTok account, @super_baba_007 (234k followers, 3.9M total likes, 3218 videos). The account first built a base of women who like East Asian men with "positive energy for Asian men" content. After the app launched, he posted several videos a day to funnel that audience into the app. The product's differentiation is an unusually specific audience: every man in the app is East Asian, and the target users are women of all ethnicities who want East Asian men (AMWF / AMBF / AMLF / AMAF). That positioning determines what content can draw traffic, and the content solves the hardest step in dating apps: where women users come from. So "positioning" and "channel" are one thing, and they surfaced together. Scale is still small: about 7174 total installs on Play, with roughly 1300 added weekly. Right now it's mostly spreading in small TikTok circles. No media coverage, nobody on X is talking about it, and I found no copycats.

### 1. Data (how it's performing)

- **Installs** : Google Play total 7174 (googleplay library app_profile, 2026-11-06), last 7 days +1302. AppstoreSpy backfilled history (googleplay library app_day_ext, labeled "AppstoreSpy estimate"): 10-05 has 2406,10-14 has 4241,10-22 has 5339,11-05 has 7174. Daily adds hold steady at 100–350, no sudden spike. The curve is flat, which doesn't look like paid acquisition pushing it up. It looks more like steady daily traffic from content.

- **Ratings** : 89 on Play, 80 on iOS, average 4.49 (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06). Play ratings grow by only 1–3 a day, in line with install growth; no sign of bulk-fake positive reviews.

- **Launch dates** : iOS 2026-09-01 (iTunes releaseDate), Play 2026-09-18 (googleplay library app.released_store). On TikTok, 9-01 posted "It's finally live!" (TikHub search). On Facebook there's a "Launch 8/13/2026" video, and August started putting a waitlist on his page in August (the Facebook fb-answers page mentions him "promoting the waitlist at hubbababa.com").

- **Charts** : Play Nigeria Free Dating #90, US store Free Dating #159; also charted #121–200 on the Dating Top Grossing charts in NG / IN / VN / PH / SA / MY / ID / TH / HK / AE / ZA / SG (data card charts_latest_day). On iOS it has charted in Social categories in low-barrier storefronts like Belize, Nicaragua, South Africa, Jamaica, Italy, Poland, and the Philippines, several of which show 0 local ratings (appstore library app_profile; AppInsider timeline also logged top-100 Top Grossing in IT / PL / PH). These are very low-bar small-storefront charts. They only show sporadic paying users, not meaningful revenue.

- **Pricing** : subscription $29.99/month (website FAQ), Play in-app purchases $29.99–$109.99. Free users have a daily cap on profiles they can view and questions they can ask; paid unlocks "who viewed me," unlimited questions, and unlimited browsing. The 11-05 version of 2.1.2 opened all filters to free users (AppInsider version log).

- **Iteration** : since October it has shipped roughly weekly (2.0.5 through 2.1.2). Features added include Apple / Google sign-in, verified badges, message replies and emoji reactions, filters, and a newsletter; the 11-06 blog says they launched tools against "pig-butchering" / romance scams (hubbababa.com/news).

### II. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How HubbaBaba is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AsianDating / ThaiCupid(Cupid Media) | iOS / Android / web | 2017(Play) | Play 3.88M / 2.75M installs | The established "Western men looking for Asian women" international dating model, the opposite direction |
| EME Hive(East Meet East) | iOS / Android / web | 2013 | 920k installs on Play; LinkedIn claims about $1.2M annual revenue | Asian men and women dating Asians, with live streams |
| Krush(Curelation) | iOS / Android | 2023 | Play 37k installs | Cross-border Asian dating, the TikTok account has only 57 followers |
| DateAsia / TrulyAsian / ZenDate / BOLY | Android / iOS | 2016–2023 | Play 130k–920k | Pan-Asian dating, mostly Western men looking for Asian women |
| Coffee Meets Bagel | iOS / Android | 2012 | 8.17M + 910k on Play | Lots of Asian American users, but open to everyone and no ethnicity filter |
| Hinge / Bumble / Tinder | big tech | — | 100M+ | Has ethnicity filters, but no "only East Asian men" pool; Baba's videos often use Hinge as a comparison |
| WMAF Meet / AMWFMeet | Web (San Francisco) | Announced 2026-08 | Invite-only, scale unknown | WMAF Meet does the reverse, pairing only Western men with Asian women; August sparked backlash in San Francisco. AMWFMeet only does AMWF and doesn't cover AMBF / AMLF. |
| Dil Mil / Vinita | iOS / Android | 2015 / 2024 | Dil Mil 2.9M; Vinita has 3565 ratings on iOS | An ethnicity-based dating app precedent, but it only serves the South Asian community |

Sources: googleplay library app_profile (2026-11-06), iTunes lookup, EME Hive's LinkedIn page, Gazetteer / KRON4 / SFist coverage of WMAF Meet (2026-08).

**Takeaway** : Ethnicity-based dating apps aren't new, and the "Asian dating" category is crowded, but the players are either Asian men and women dating within the community or Western men looking for Asian women. **I didn't find a sizable competitor for the "only East Asian men, for women of all ethnicities" pool in the app stores** (searches in the Play library for asian / amwf / asian men etc. returned only this one app in the DATING category).

### 3. Where users come from (acquisition)

1. **Founder's TikTok (confirmed, the main channel)** . @super_baba_007:234 has 3.92M followers and about 3218M likes across 2026-11-06 videos (TikHub user profile). The profile bio is just the app link, which goes through stan.store to app.hubbababa.com. The account wasn't started for the app: 2025-08-04 already had a Blasians video with 320k views and 44.8k likes. 2026-04-20's pinned video is "Baba's webinar #babainnercircle" with 790k views, suggesting he previously ran an "Asian men dating coach / community" business (TikHub video list). After launch, posting got very dense: 83 videos in October, 6 in the first 31 days of November, sometimes 4–6 a day. Most of the views come from a few hits: 9-21's #amwf at 510k, 9-03's #slavicwomen #chinesemen at 280k, 10-21's #amwf at 150k, 10-27's #kpop #bts at 150k; the rest mostly get a few hundred to around twenty thousand views.
    - **Content approach** : borrows traffic from East Asian pop culture like K-pop / BTS / C-drama / Korean skincare to attract women who like East Asian men; tags by audience (#ambw #ambf #slavicwomen #nativeamerican #whitechicks), with a separate batch of videos for almost every ethnicity; lots of "Replying to @xxx" videos, using comment-section questions as topic ideas; also startup diaries (the profile has a "📲Hubba baba's tech startup journey" playlist, #techtok #startup), scam exposés (#scammeralert), and offline matchmaking dinners (10-08).
    - **Conversion hook** : "comment 'baba' for the free download" (a TikTok video summary from Jina search results) is a classic comment-keyword auto-DM.

2. **Instagram / Facebook cross-posting (confirmed)** . IG @super_baba_007 has reels, such as "I built a dating app so more women can meet great Asian men, and it's finally live"; Facebook has a launch video on the page (Jina search).

3. **Organic Reddit discussion (confirmed but small)** . r/AMBW has a post, "Anyone try Hubba Baba dating app yet?", where the OP says "it's refreshing that it's not algorithm-driven, but I haven't gotten any messages yet" (Jina search summary; the original post 403 couldn't be read). r/AMWFs and r/AsianMasculinity have long had requests for "is there a dating app for AM specifically," so the demand has been there all along.

4. **Timing: the WMAF Meet backlash (speculative, no confirmed direct link)** . The 2026-08 San Francisco "WMAF Meet" paired only Western men with Asian women. KRON4, SFist, Gazetteer, AsAmNews, and Yahoo all covered it, and #oxfordstudy fights on TikTok got heated (Brave and TikHub searches). HubbaBaba posted its launch teasers in 8-13 and went live in 9-01, landing on the "positive energy for Asian men" side in a debate that ran the opposite way. I didn't find a video where Baba directly responds to WMAF Meet; the only thing I can say is that the timing overlapped.

5. **Local merchant / UGC affiliate (just launched, not an existing acquisition channel)** . The site at /local-business: independent Asian restaurants and cafes join for free, and nearby date-spot recommendations pop up mid-chat; UGC creators earn commission per in-store visit and redemption. 11-06 The blog only just announced the official launch, so no results to judge yet.

6. **Paid acquisition (not found)** . Searched Meta Ad Library by Page name, landing domain and package name, found nothing (the metaads library only tracks an allowlist of advertisers, so no hit doesn't mean no spend). The steady curve and the shape of the category charts also don't look like heavy paid buying.

7. **Media / X (none)** . x-radar searches for "hubbababa" and "hubba baba" over the past 90 days each returned 0 posts; no press coverage found. The only third-party pages that show up are auto-generated ones from AppBrain, AppInsider and Apptopia.

### IV. Why it took off

- **Female users come built in** : the hardest part of cold-starting a dating app is getting women. Baba's TikTok content is already "how women date East Asian men," so its audience is exactly the scarce side of the app; East Asian men are the supply, and they're usually underserved on mainstream apps (r/AsianMasculinity has long discussed this). An app where women come specifically to find them naturally pulls them in.

- **A narrow audience that spans ethnicities** : not "Asian dating," but "East Asian men only." That lets women of every ethnicity (white, Black, Latina, Slavic, Indigenous, Asian) each become their own video topic, so the content pool is nearly endless. It also explains why the chart presence is scattered across Nigeria, South Africa, the Philippines, India and elsewhere (AMBF and K-pop fandoms are widespread).

- **The account was already there** : it has covered this niche for at least 2025 years, ran webinars and an inner-circle program (monetizing a coaching business), and the app is just the next product on that IP.

- **Identity and a "movement" narrative** : framed as "Asian male positivity" and "fight racism and save your favourite local restaurant," so users come because they identify with it, not just to use a tool. The first Reddit feedback praised it for "not relying on the algorithm."

- **Premium subscription** : $29.99/month, close to Hinge and Bumble premium tiers, so even a small user base can bring in some revenue. It has reached the 180–200 range on several countries' Top Grossing charts, so people are paying, but the amounts are probably small.

### 5. Differentiation

1. **Audience positioning** : "only East Asian men + women of every ethnicity," plus a Matchmaker mode for family-arranged dates (common in East Asian family culture, where elders often arrange introductions).

2. **Mechanics** : no swiping; users have to ask a question before they can start talking; localized East Asian filters (per the data card: height, income, language, zodiac, blood type).

3. **Offline loop** : chats recommend nearby independent Asian restaurants as date spots, tied into the merchant / UGC affiliate program.

What really made it take off was the 1th item, and it depends on the founder's content. Items 2 and 3 are the common "anti-swiping" narrative and icing on the cake; at this point they don't look like the growth engine.

### 6. Heat and copycats

- Revenue isn't public: no TrustMRR listing, and the founder hasn't posted revenue numbers (none found).

- No press coverage; 0 posts on X. It only comes up on TikTok (fan circles) and small subreddits like r/AMBW. **It's circulating within small circles.**

- Copycats: no new app specifically for "women seeking East Asian men" was found. The closest are WMAF Meet, which runs the opposite direction, and AMWFMeet, which covers only AMWF.

### VII. What others can borrow

- **Build the content IP first, then the product** : use identity-driven content to build up the scarce side of supply and demand (here, women) before launching the app; post multiple videos a day, reply to comments, and publish a founder build log.

- **Slice the audience by the side mainstream apps shortchange** : pick "a given ethnicity's men × all women who like them," and the women's side can be split endlessly by ethnicity and interest (K-pop, C-dramas). The same playbook may work for other groups that lose out in mainstream dating markets but have dedicated fans, provided there's a creator who can represent them.

- Low-cost conversion: "comment a keyword to get the download link."

- Two monetization lines, premium subscription plus ad affiliates, can sustain even a small user base.

### 8. What's still uncertain

- How many people actually use it and the gender ratio: the first Reddit feedback was "haven't received any messages yet," and whether the men's side is dense enough (especially once split by city) is unknown.

- Revenue scale: Top Grossing rank thresholds are very low, so it can't be estimated.

- The developer "Aima Interactive S.L." is a web-building / SEO agency in Barcelona (aimainteractive.com, with Hoa and MyPeak in its portfolio), while the website copyright belongs to "Hubba BaBa Inc." The agency is most likely just the outsourced developer and publisher; the real owner is Baba. The data card says "the same developer also has Vinita": Vinita's iOS seller is Vinita Inc, with no confirmed link to Aima, so the claim that "one company runs an ethnic dating matrix" doesn't hold up.

- Baba's real identity and location: the homepage collection title uses the Chinese phrase 科技创业历程 ("tech startup journey"), so he may be Chinese, unverified. The data card says his persona includes "quit his job to build an app," but I didn't find that original statement in this round.

- Whether they run paid ads on TikTok or Meta: no evidence found.
