Within minutes of signing up, 7 "women" approached you: Xmet is a dating skin over paid chat

What it is A "local dating" app on Android. Once you're in, many accounts reach out to you first. Replying, viewing photos and video calls all require buying coins and gifts.

Why it took off The same paid video-chat backend keeps being relisted under new names. Titles are stuffed with search terms, and it sits in low-barrier social categories. Paid acquisition is switched on and off in the US, Australia and Canada depending on payback. For European and American men, paying for "someone finds me first to chat" is an old business.

DHow you could follow it Don't copy its monetization. Only take the distribution methods: a single backend split into several packages with per-package payback testing, picking chart categories with low entry barriers, and putting search terms in titles. Apply these to your own legitimate product.

D grade: It earns money by using fake matching accounts to lure payments, and it faces allegations of content involving minors. Takedowns can take down the whole developer account. The distribution tactics are easy to copy, but there's no barrier to entry, and copycat clones already crowd the space. Few people know about this yet

Xmet-Meet Local Singles is a "local dating" app on Google Play. Listed Jul 23, it reached 18k installs by Nov 6, gaining 3,772 more in the last week. It sits at #60 on Australia's social Free chart and #187 on the US social Top Grossing chart. Its product is no different from dozens of similar apps. What made it break out is that the same developer keeps relisting one paid-chat backend under new names and turning paid acquisition on and off across the US, Australia and Canada. Below: what it is, where the money comes from, where the users come from, and whether you should follow it.

One bad review is its business model

Aug 16, 2026: US user Arthur Pugh wrote on Xmet's store page: "Another scam dating app. Right after signing up I got six or seven bot messages. To see them, or to chat with these 'people interested in you,' you have to buy 'gifts' at various prices." 9 people marked it helpful.

A month later, Michael Russell was more specific: "None of the 'members' are verified. They're bots, luring you to upgrade to see their private photos and videos. Some even make you video call them, with tokens so expensive that five minutes costs half a year's salary." (Google Play US store page, read 11-06)

Put these two together and you have Xmet's business: a man downloads an app called "Meet Local Singles," and as soon as he opens it, several "local women" reach out to him. Replying, viewing photos and watching videos all cost money.

What it is

On the store page, it looks just like Tinder and Badoo: people nearby, see who liked you, photos plus short video updates, chat, and a VIP tier (unlimited likes, global mode, avatar badges, priority exposure). In-app purchases run $2.99 to $199.99 each.

But it's filed under Social, not Dating. The same developer has 6 dating apps, all filed under Social.

The developer is Shamim Reza, contact email [email protected], account based in Bangladesh. The clues point to a white-label "1 vs 1 video chat" template behind it, a China-linked going-global play: the same developer also runs Fumo and CrushChat, which sell "1v1 video chat + virtual gifts". Fumo's store description still contains a Chinese phrase, "real-time特效". Xmet's privacy policy page sits under xmet.fumochats.com, on the same domain as Fumo. So Xmet is very likely a "local singles" skin over a paid video-chat backend (the shared domain is confirmed; that it's the same backend is inference).

From the outside, you can't tell whether the "women" who approach you first are scripts or paid performers. 1v1 video chat products often use real performers, and reviews call them "bots".

Where the money comes from and how much

The money comes from male users paying for "someone reached out to me": coins, gifts, and per-minute video calls, with single charges up to $199.99.

The third-party estimator AppGazers puts Xmet's October in-app revenue at $4,600 to $21,800, with 5,300 to 15,900 downloads that month. That works out to roughly $1 to $2 in revenue per download (estimate). The scale matches its ranking of #170 to #200 on the US Social Top Grossing chart. Across the whole developer portfolio, AppGazers estimates October at $26k to $165k, mostly from Fumo and CrushChat, the packs that sell video chat directly.

It's not a big business, but a pack making a few thousand to twenty thousand dollars a month, with a person running ten-odd packs, is enough.

Where users come from

Almost entirely paid acquisition. Searching "Xmet app" on TikTok returns nothing, and nobody on X, Reddit, or the media talks about it. The only hits are APK download sites and app directories. An app nobody discusses, getting hundreds of installs a day in the US, Australia, and Canada, has to be bought.

Its install curve has the shape of paid spend (daily installs estimated by the third-party AppstoreSpy):

TimelineDaily new installsHow to read it
Mid August120–890,8-17 about 890 a dayAds switched on at launch
8-31 to 9-226–28Nearly stopped for three weeks, budget off
From ¥9-23200–500Ads switched back on
October, mid3–130Then it picked up again
From ¥10-30About ¥590–610Restarted

Daily installs jumped from single digits to hundreds, then fell back, with no news or viral video in between. The most likely explanation is that the developer turns budget on and off depending on payback (inference; I didn't find creatives to confirm whether it runs on Google or Meta).

Three other things amplify the bought traffic:

  • The title is the search term. "Meet Local Singles" is written straight into the name, competing for the same store search terms as Onlyo, FlutterX, FascinX, and DateRush.
  • Social, not Dating. In the Dating category it would fight Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble for chart space. In Social, a few hundred global installs a day is enough to land around #50 to #60 on the Australia Social Top Free chart. Once charted, it picks up some organic traffic.
  • One template, many skins. Under the same email: June brought BlushX, July Xmet, September Cuffing, and in October 25 to 27 a few more in one go: FlutterX, Berry, FascinX. When an old pack's reviews sour or it gets reported, it swaps to a new skin and keeps spending.

The ratings say something too: 42 ratings, 1 stars for 20, 5 stars for 15, and only 6 in between. The visible written reviews are all negative. A split with both ends heavy and the middle empty suggests the 5-star half was prompted or fake (inference).

Who it's competing with

Everyone is competing. Small-shop dating apps like "Meet Local Singles" are everywhere on Google Play, playing the same game, and Xmet is mid-pack among them (install counts are Google Play, 11-06):

Above them sit the big brands with real user networks (Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Badoo, Plenty of Fish), plus mid-size companies with brand campaigns (PURE, Hily, Boo). Xmet doesn't compete with them on product, because it has no real user network.

Does anyone know about it?

Almost nobody. No press coverage, no discussion on X, TikTok, or Reddit, and the developer hasn't posted about revenue. The only sources are third-party estimator pages. That isn't good news, though: nobody knows it, and its category is already crowded, with the same developer competing against itself.

If it were you

D: Understand the play, don't copy it. Xmet makes money by using fake "someone reached out first" accounts to lure payments, which Google Play's policies classify as deceptive. A review also claims someone in the app tried to sell photos of minors (Mike 2.0,8-09). If that kind of allegation is investigated, the developer's ten-odd packs could all be pulled together. What's left to learn (multiple packs, category positioning, on-off paid acquisition) has no barrier to entry, and competitors have been using it for ages.

Who it's for: Teams already buying Android installs in the US, Australia, and Canada, with a real backend, who want to apply its distribution methods to a legitimate product.

Who it's not for: Small teams that want to make dating or paid chat without performer supply or moderation capacity; people who've never run ads and are counting on organic reach; anyone who cares about developer account safety.

How to do it: Take three things and leave out the monetization. Split one backend into several packs with different names and icons, test each pack against payback, and switch off and reskin any that don't pay back. Before launch, check the chart thresholds for each category in the target countries and pick the one with the lowest bar that still makes sense. Write the words users actually search into the title. If you insist on paid chat, make it openly paid: say plainly that it's paid companionship or performer video, and keep performer contracts, content moderation, and age verification. Those are non-negotiable, and they make it a different, operations-heavy business, not a reskin.

How to get users: Google App Campaigns or Meta app install ads, targeting the US, Australia, and Canada, with small budgets tested per pack. Watch the revenue per download for each pack, and switch it off when it falls below acquisition cost instead of forcing it.

When is it too early? There's no time window here. This play has existed for a long time and keeps getting more crowded.

Signs you've misread it: (1) In 3 months, Xmet and its sister packs are still live and growing, with Google leaving them alone. That would mean the policy risk is smaller than it looks and the play lasts longer than expected. (2) The developer's portfolio revenue climbs from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands a month, which would mean the skin-matrix scale effect is bigger than expected. (3) A new, openly paid chat product appears with positive reviews and also grows in the Social category, which would mean it can work without deception and is worth another look.

Where users come from
  • Inference Paid acquisition (Google App Campaigns or Meta): with zero organic buzz (no TikTok, X, Reddit, or media), daily installs in the hundreds in the US, Australia, and Canada. The AppstoreSpy curve goes from 8-31–9-22 at 6–28 installs a day, then 9-23 and 10-30 suddenly ramp to 200–600. That's the shape of budget switches. Our Meta, Google, and TikTok ad libraries have not tracked it.
  • Confirmed Store search: keywords stuffed into the title: the title uses "Meet Local Singles" directly, sharing terms with Onlyo, FlutterX, FascinX, DateRush, and Velique.
  • Confirmed Category positioning (SOCIAL, not DATING): all 6 of the same developer's apps are filed under SOCIAL. A few hundred installs a day is enough to land around #51–#60 on the Australia SOCIAL Top Free chart and about #187 on the US SOCIAL Top Grossing chart.
  • Uncovered a sock-puppet matrix: under the same email [email protected], com.hxathena.* 6 dating sock-puppet apps plus com.hchamster.* video chat, with 3 new packages shipped in the last week of October (Google Play library; AppGazers lists 11 apps)
  • Inferred rating management: 42 ratings, 1-star 20, 5-star 15, only 6 in the middle; every visible text review is negative, while 11-05 gained +3 5-star ratings in a single day

Why Xmet-Meet Local Singles (com.hxathena.xmet) managed to chart

Store: Google Play | Developer: Shamim Reza (contact email [email protected], Bangladesh) | Store launch 2026-07-23 | Category: SOCIAL (not DATING) | Research day 2026-11-06

Bottom line

Xmet is not really a "dating product." It's a reskinned sock-puppet + paid-acquisition paid-chat funnel: the front end uses "Meet Local Singles" keyword titles and a local-dating shell, buys installs from men in the US / Australia / Canada, then once inside gets flooded with messages from "women" (reviewers say they're bots), and monetizes through coins / gifts / video calls / VIP ($2.99–$199.99). It "charts" because the developer keeps shipping the same template under new names and switching paid spend on and off, not because of product differentiation. The rankings look good partly because it sits in the low-barrier SOCIAL category.

Install curve (AppstoreSpy estimate, googleplay library app_day_ext) shows a classic on/off paid-acquisition shape:

  • Mid-August launch phase: 120–890 installs/day (8-17 peaked at about 892 in a single day), reaching roughly 6,500 cumulative by late August;
  • From 8-31 to 9-22 nearly stalled: 6–28 installs/day, up only about 400 over three weeks;
  • Scaled back up from 9-23: 200–500 installs/day, dropped back to 3–130 mid-October;
  • Accelerated again from 10-30: about 590–610,11-03 per day, cumulative 17,598,11-06 18,355.

An app with zero social-media buzz whose daily installs jump from single digits to hundreds and then drop straight back down. The most plausible explanation is paid budgets switched on and off (ad creatives were not directly observed, see the Acquisition section).

II. What it is and how it makes money

  • Store description: Explore Nearby, who liked you, photos + short-video Stories, chat, VIP (unlimited likes, see who liked you, global mode, badges, priority exposure). The shell is the same as local-dating apps like Tinder / Badoo.
  • Actual monetization (from the three most useful US store-page reviews, all from 8–September):
    • "None of the 'members' are verified, they're bots, pushing you to upgrade to see private photos and videos; some want you to video call, and the tokens are so expensive it's 'half a year of salary for five minutes.'" (Michael Russell, 2026-09-15,8 people found helpful)
    • "Right after signing up I got 6 and 7 messages from bots, and you have to buy 'gifts' at various prices to see or talk." (Arthur Pugh, 2026-08-16,9 people found helpful)
    • Another review alleges recruitment of minors on the platform (Mike 2.0,2026-08-09). That is a compliance / takedown-level risk.
  • The same developer's other package-name family com.hchamster.* (Fumo, CrushChat, Dimochat, Somomet) is "1V1 Live Video Chat + virtual gifts." Fumo's store description still contains leftover Chinese, "real-time特效," suggesting this code / copy is a modified white-label template for 1v1 video dating from Chinese going-global teams. Xmet's privacy page sits under xmet.fumochats.com, sharing the fumochats.com domain with Fumo. Xmet very likely wraps the same paid video-chat backend in a "local dating" skin (shared domain verified; shared backend not verified).
  • So where the money comes from: male users pay to "get approached by women," billed per coin / gift / video minute, with single charges up to $199.99. AppGazers estimates its October revenue at $4.6K–$21.8K, which fits the threshold for US SOCIAL Top Grossing ranks 170–200, so the scale is credible.

III. Competitors

The same thing (small-studio "Meet Local Singles"-style dating / paid chat) is extremely crowded on Google Play, and much of it runs the same playbook:

Alora - Meet & Dating(UG-BODA)Android2026-05-21130,686Bigger players in the same niche

(all scale figures are googleplay library 11-06 data)

Bottom line: there is no such thing as "no competitors"; within this class of small sock-puppet apps, Xmet is just mid-tier (NightSpark, Alora, and Seylo are all bigger).

IV. Growth levers (where users come from)

  1. Paid acquisition (highly likely, not directly confirmed): a TikTok search for "Xmet app" returns 0 results (TikHub), X corpus has 0 related posts (x-radar), Reddit / media has 0 mentions, and Jina search only turns up APK sites and AppBrain listings. With zero organic buzz, tier-1 countries like the US, Australia, and Canada produce several hundred installs a day, and the curve turns on and off by week (see above). It can only be paid spend (Google App Campaigns or Meta are both possible). Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries have not tracked it (those libraries only cover products on our watchlist, so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't advertising).
  2. Keyword-stuffed title + store search: the title is literally "Meet Local Singles," and like Onlyo, FlutterX, FascinX, DateRush, and Velique, it rides that search term.
  3. Filed under SOCIAL, not DATING: all 6 of the same developer's apps are in SOCIAL. Getting into AU SOCIAL Top Free ranks 51–60 only takes a few hundred installs a day globally, and the US SOCIAL Top Grossing 187 threshold is also low. In DATING it would be going head-to-head with the Tinder family. The category choice makes it look charted and may also let it dodge some of the review and age-rating requirements that dating apps face (the latter not verified).
  4. Sock-puppet matrix: under one email, com.hxathena.* 6 dating sock-puppet apps (BlushX June, Xmet July, Cuffing September, FlutterX/FascinX/Berry late October) + com.hchamster.* 4–5 video-chat apps; AppBrain counts 8 apps / about 100k installs, AppGazers counts 11 apps. A new skin every month or two means an old one going bad (bad reviews or reports) doesn't hurt the overall operation.
  5. Rating management (suspected): of 42 ratings, 1-star 20, 5-star 15, only 6 in the middle, a polarized split; 11-05 gained 3 5-star ratings in one day. Every visible text review is negative, so the 5-star ratings are most likely solicited or fabricated (not verified).

V. Why it broke through

  • Steady demand, high willingness to pay: US and European men paying for "someone to actively reach out and chat" is a mature old business (paid chat / 1v1 video is a major lane for Chinese going-global teams), so no market education is needed.
  • White-label template + reskin pipeline: code and backend are ready-made (Fumo's description still has leftover Chinese). Swap the name, icon, and domain (*.fumochats.com) and a new package ships at very low cost; 3 new sock-puppet apps in a single week in late October.
  • Paid acquisition pays back: AppGazers estimates Xmet's October revenue at $4.6K–$21.8K from 5–16K downloads, roughly $1–2 gross revenue per download, enough to break even or make a small profit on paid acquisition in Android tier-1 markets. Turning spend on and off suggests the developer is controlling budgets by ROI.
  • Low-barrier category for chart placement: chart rankings in the SOCIAL category can themselves bring a bit of organic traffic.

VI. Differentiation

No product differentiation. The features (people nearby, who likes you, Stories, VIP) are nearly word-for-word the same as dozens of similar sock puppets. The "difference" from real Tinder-style products lies in the business model: no real user network, harvesting through "proactively approaching accounts + pay-per-use." The real "differentiation" is operational: the developer's sock-puppet matrix, category positioning in SOCIAL, and on/off paid acquisition. These explain why it charts, but they are easy to copy (and Onlyo, NightSpark, and others are already doing exactly the same thing).

VII. How many people have seen it

Few people know about it yet. No media coverage, no discussion on X / TikTok / Reddit, and the founder hasn't disclosed revenue; the only public data is from third-party model estimate pages like AppGazers (anyone can look them up). But the category itself ("Meet Local Singles" sock puppets + paid chat) is already packed with competitors on Play.

VIII. What to take from it

  • One backend, many skins, ROI tested per package, and when a skin loses money, spend stops and a new skin replaces it. This is the standard pipeline for paid acquisition of "utility / dating" apps in Android tier-1 markets.
  • Category positioning: list in a category with a low chart threshold, and a very small volume can earn visible rankings.
  • But don't copy its monetization: bot accounts and paywall-baiting are already called out in reviews, and there are allegations of minor-related content. Google Play's fraud and child-safety policies could take down the whole developer account at any time (taking the other 10 apps with it).

IX. Uncertainties

  • Specific ad channels (Google UAC / Meta / other) and spend: not tracked by our ad libraries, unverified.
  • Whether the "bots" are scripts or paid hosts (1v1 video chat white-label apps often use real live hosts): reviews only say bots, unverified.
  • Whether Xmet and Fumo share the same backend / user pool: we only verified that they share the fumochats.com domain.
  • Whether the developer is just a Bangladeshi publishing front ("Two Brothers IT") with the real operator being a Chinese going-global team: there are Chinese traces, unverified.
  • Revenue is only an AppGazers model estimate, with a very wide error band.
