68 installs, 40 ratings: One dating app's October run, and the pipeline behind it that launches a new shell every month

What it is A swipe-to-match dating chat app on Google Play that sells in-app purchases by "chat times" ($3.99–$99.99, no refunds).

Why it took off The same team relaunches a proven template under a new name and personal developer account, seeds ratings first, then buys installs in high-paying English-speaking countries (inferred). About 500 installs a day is enough to crack the low-bar social category charts; 11-03 later it has already been pulled back, and the next shell, Sayo, is live.

CHow you could follow it Don't build another copy of the same shell. Study the playbook of "low-bar category charts, chat-credit packs instead of subscriptions, rotating shells" and apply it to a clearly labeled AI companion or conversation-practice app, or to a non-English market.

Grade C: the product has no differentiation, the niche already has dozens of identical shells with leaders an order of magnitude bigger, and the core revenue depends on making users think they're chatting with real people, with a constant risk of mass takedowns. The org methods for publishing and charting are worth learning, but following this app isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Flirsy: Dating & Chat is a swipe-to-match dating app on Google Play that charges by "chat times." It launched in Oct 14, reached 3,221 installs within three weeks, and cracked the top 60 of the social free charts in the UK, Australia and Canada. It isn't a standalone product: it's the seventh or eighth shell from one pipeline, where the same template has been relaunched every month since February under a new name and developer account. Anyone who wants to follow this should first be clear about what's actually transferable here: the way it gets published and charted, not the app itself.

Five days before launch, the payment terms were already written

In Oct 9, a "User Payment Agreement" went up on the domain flirsyappz.com. Its first line reads "By purchasing chat times on Flirsy...", and a later paragraph says "All sales of chat times are final and non-refundable." Five days later, the app went live on Google Play.

The website has nothing else: one background image, a contact email, and legal pages covering privacy policy, terms of service, payment agreement, child safety and account deletion. The developer account is called Arabama, a personal account with this app as its only listing. The version number has stayed at 1.0.0 from launch through Nov 6, with no updates.

The second oddity is in the ratings. As of Oct 29, it had 68 cumulative installs and already 40 ratings, meaning roughly 6 out of every 10 people who installed it left a rating (Google Play, 10-29). For a normal app that share is around 1%.

What it is

The store listing calls it a "dating app for adults who want to meet new people": swipe to browse profiles, swipe right to like, mutual likes create a match, then one-on-one private chat, plus a "see who likes you" feature. The short description is a single line: "Swipe, match, see who likes you, and start private chats."

Here's how the money works: chatting requires "times," sold in packs, with Play listing in-app purchases from $3.99 to $99.99 each, non-refundable. It's not a monthly subscription like Tinder; you top up one bundle at a time. Content rating is Mature 17+.

The app itself offers no text evidence on whether the other side of the chat is a real user, an operator, or AI. But the sister shells that use the same template make it clearer. A review of Winkr says: "They said no paywall, unlimited chat, but after a few messages you still have to buy credits" (10-28). A one-star review of Dusky says: "A woman said she wanted to meet, then dragged the conversation out until my free messages ran out, made me pay to exchange contacts, and even after paying she still couldn't send anything" (8-15). So what Flirsy is most likely selling isn't "a chance to meet people" but "continued conversation with a profile that reached out first" (inferred).

Numbers: 3,221 installs in three weeks, then a decline starting after Nov 3

Install counts and SOCIAL free chart ranks come from Google Play, 10-29 through 11-06.

Play's install counts update only every few days, so they look like a jump of over two thousand on 11-03. The daily installs estimated by the third-party AppstoreSpy are smoother: from late October to Nov 3 about 527 a day, 11-04 about 448,11-05, about 318 (estimate). In other words, five hundred installs a day is enough to rank in the top 60 of the social free charts in the UK, Australia and Canada.

Ratings rose steadily by 7 to 27 a day, regardless of when installs jumped. Of the 196 ratings, 165 were five-star, for an average of 4.72 stars, and only 6 included a written review.

Revenue is not public. Third-party AppGazers modeling estimates its in-app purchase gross at under $5K (estimate) over 10-03 to 11-02. It never once reached the Top Grossing chart.

After Nov 3, its rankings in all four countries fell together by 40 to 60 places. That doesn't look like an app users discovered on their own; it looks like a paid campaign ending and acquisition tapering off (inferred).

Where users come from: paid acquisition, plus a low-bar chart

No one online is talking about Flirsy. Searching TikTok for "flirsy app" returns no related videos, X shows zero posts in nearly 30 days, and web search only turns up the store listing, a few data sites and its own legal pages (11-06). With no content, no media coverage, no Reddit threads, yet charting in three countries on nearly the same day, the most plausible explanation is paid install campaigns in high-paying English-speaking markets (inferred). The channel was likely Google App campaigns or Meta, but which one, and how much was spent, can't be seen.

Two other things are confirmed:

  • It picked social over dating. The dating category's top spots belong to Tinder, Hinge and Bumble, with a long tail of older publisher portfolios below. The mid-tier of the social category has a far lower bar: five hundred installs a day is enough to rank in the top 60 in the UK and Australia. Once it's charting, it also picks up a bit of organic exposure in the store.
  • Ratings first, installs later. 68 installs and 40 ratings. Sayo, the next shell launched in Oct 23, had 38 ratings from 163 installs. A review of sister shell Winkr complains: "Before I'd even finished filling in my profile, a pop-up asked me to rate the app" (11-01). A 4.7-star listing naturally converts better.

Who made it: a pipeline launching a new shell every month

Checking the URL pattern of Flirsy's privacy policy (/resources/<name>-privacy-protocol.html) against Google Play turns up a set of dating apps built on the same template:

The common threads are obvious at a glance: all in the social category, in-app purchases all $3.99–$99.99, developers using personal names plus Gmail, package names appearing in batches (com.sk*, com.www*, com.io*). Flirsy and Dote share an identical short description, and their websites (doteappz.com, winkrapp.com) follow the same structure. A new shell launches every four to six weeks, each one picking up where the last left off: Winkr in August, Dote in September, Flirsy in mid-October, Sayo in late October. Together the nine shells have roughly 100k installs, and the largest, Dusky, has only 30k. Who's behind them is unclear; the account names vary, and no corporate entity can be identified.

One shell per personal account has an obvious benefit: when a shell collects bad reviews or draws platform scrutiny, switching identities leaves that baggage behind.

Who it's competing with: the whole niche is already crowded

The "swipe + pay-per-chat" model wasn't invented by this group, and others run it at larger scale:

  • Same-model paid chat shells: on the US Google Play social Top Grossing chart sit LitUp, Muah, Pario, Kizme, Lumi, NightSpark, Nayvi and DateGlow, which AppGazers estimates at $30k to $240k a month (estimate), each an order of magnitude bigger than Flirsy. A one-star review under DateGlow reads "Seems like it's all AI bots... remove the paywall" (10-15). On AppBrain's "Top New Free Social" list, shells with similar naming styles like Lumora and Velique also appear, suggesting several groups are using this same playbook at once.
  • Established players with the same model: HapEnd, HiZone and Hugi, listed for 2022–2023 years, each with about 1M installs. Red Panda App's "Dating and Chat - XXX" series sits in the dating category, and one series occupies several spots at 25 to 39 on the US dating chart.
  • Real-person dating: Tinder, Hinge, Bumble. Flirsy doesn't compete with them; it lives off the long tail of people who search "dating app" or tap an ad and install on impulse.

Compared with these, Flirsy has no product differentiation whatsoever. Its only position is as the October link in its own pipeline, and that link is smaller than Dote or Winkr.

Where the money comes from, and whether it lasts

All the money comes from chat-time packs. Pay-per-use with no refunds and a top tier of $99.99 means a few hundred paying users can recover a month's acquisition spend, which is why shells like this survive on very small install counts.

But each shell lives only a few weeks. Flirsy went from climbing the charts to falling off in about two or three weeks, and Sayo was already live as the next link. The bigger risk is platform policy: Google Play's deceptive behavior rules cover fake profiles and manipulative paywalls, and rating manipulation is explicitly banned. One shell getting banned is survivable, but the same template and account pattern could be swept out in batches. And a no-refund policy invites refund disputes and one-star reviews. Under similar shells DateGlow and Nayvi, commenters have already written that they will report the developers to the Federal Trade Commission.

If it were you

Verdict: C. You can learn an organizational method for publishing and charting on Play, but following this app isn't worth it. There's no product to copy, the niche already has dozens of identical shells with leaders making tens to a few hundred thousand dollars a month, and the core of the model is letting users believe they're chatting with real people, which brings policy and complaint risk.

Who it suits: small teams already running paid acquisition on Google Play, with several developer accounts, who can run Google App campaigns and calculate the acquisition cost per paying user. For you, three things are directly usable from this playbook: pick a low-bar category to chart in (the social mid-tier, not the dating top); use chat-credit packs instead of subscriptions so a small install base can still pay back; and the org approach of one codebase, multiple shells in rotation, and minimal legal pages.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who can't run paid acquisition and hopes for organic store traffic (Flirsy has no organic content at all); anyone aiming to build a "better dating app" to beat these (there's no real user pool here, and product quality isn't the deciding factor); anyone unwilling to touch fake profiles, companion chat and non-refundable payments (this model's profits come precisely from those).

How to play it: if you really want to go after this demand, do the side it does badly: a clearly labeled AI companion or "conversation practice" app that states up front the other side is AI, and can still sell credit packs. AI companion apps already charge per use, and being openly AI means you're less exposed to being pulled as fake profiles (inferred). Changing the language is another route: this group and its peers only target the US, UK, Australia and Canada, so whether the bar in German, French or Japanese social charts is lower needs to be checked on Play by looking at rankings and daily install estimates.

How to acquire users: buy installs. Test with a small budget on Google App campaigns in one country, aiming to crack the top 100 of the social free chart for store exposure. Prompt for ratings in-app when users are enjoying a good conversation, not by seeding them.

Before when: There's no hard deadline. This business has always had players, but every month you wait, a few more clones show up, and Google Play's cleanup of apps like these only gets stricter.

What would prove this wrong: ① Flirsy or its successor Sayo keeps growing installs steadily after paid acquisition stops and starts getting real long reviews, which would mean real retention and worth revisiting. ② These nine clones get taken down in bulk within a month or two, which would mean the window for this playbook is closing and even copying the org structure needs a new platform angle. ③ Conversely, a clearly labeled AI chat app with per-message pricing that holds a top-100 spot on the social charts for a month straight would show the legitimate path is open, and that one is worth following.

Why Flirsy: Dating & Chat (com.ioflirsy.app) managed to chart

Channel: Google Play | Developer: Arabama (individual account, [email protected]) | Store debut 2026-10-14 | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

Flirsy didn't win on product. It's the newest clone from a matrix of paid-chat dating apps, launched in October. The matrix has at least 9 clones on the same template. Every clone runs the same playbook: swipe matching, in-app purchases priced per "chat times" at $3.99–$99.99, no refunds. The launch pattern is the same too: seed a batch of ratings, then push installs in high-paying English-speaking countries, mostly through paid acquisition. That's enough for three to five hundred installs a day, which gets it into Play's low-barrier SOCIAL Top Free chart at #50–#75 in the UK, Australia, and Canada, and #120–#160 in the US. Since 11-03, both rank and daily installs have been falling. It looks like it's past its push peak and handing off to the next clone, Sayo (launched 10-23).

1. Data (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 ~ 11-06)

  • Installs: the listed cumulative installs went from 68 → 3,221,7 over 3,153 days. Play updates install counts in steps: 10-31 one +280,11-03 one +2,107, then +448, +318. AppstoreSpy's daily estimates are smoother: 10-31 to 11-03 about 527,11-04 a day, about 448,11-05, about 318 (app_day_ext). So the real pace was about 500,11-04 a day from late October, falling after that.
  • Ratings: at 10-29 it had only 68 installs but already 40 ratings, a ratings-to-installs ratio of 59%. By 11-06 it was 196/3,221, about 6%. Ratings have grown steadily by 7–27 a day, regardless of install spikes. Star distribution [3,3,5,15,165], 4.72 stars, and only 6 written text reviews (app_snap). Dozens of five-star ratings in the first week suggests ratings were seeded first, then volume was scaled up.
  • Version: has been 1.0.0 since launch, never updated. Content rating Mature 17+.
  • Charts: only on the SOCIAL Top Free chart, never on Top Grossing (chart_rank). | Date | Australia | UK | Canada | US | |---|---|---|---|---| | 10-29 | 68 | 62 | 70 | 159 | | 10-30 | 59 | 51 | 68 | 135 | | 11-03 | 49 | 74 | 73 | 130 | | 11-06 | 106 | 129 | 131 | 192 |

The "best rank #106" on the data card is just the figure for 11-06 alone. The real peak came from late October to early November: #49 in Australia, #51 in the UK, #57 in Canada, #123 in the US.

  • Revenue: AppGazers models in-app purchase gross at under $5K from 10-03 to 11-02, and downloads under 5K (appgazers). This is a model estimate, not public revenue.

2. The matrix: 9 clones from the same team

What these clones have in common:

  • All listed under SOCIAL, all with in-app purchase ranges of $3.99–$99.99, all under individual-name Gmail developer accounts. Package prefixes come in batches: com.sk*, com.www*, com.io*.
  • Flirsy's short description, "Swipe, match, see who likes you, and start private chats.", is word-for-word the same as Dote's. The long description opens the same way: "a dating app for adults who want to meet new people…"
  • The website flirsyappz.com has just a background image, plus privacy policy, terms of service, payment agreement, child safety, account deletion pages and a contact email. It's the same structure as doteappz.com and winkrapp.com.
  • The Payment Agreement was published 2026-10-09, 5 days before the store launch. It states "By purchasing chat times on Flirsy…" and "All sales of chat times are final and non-refundable".
  • Roughly every 4–6 weeks a new clone launches, each taking over from the last: Winkr (August) → Dote (September) → Flirsy (mid-October) → Sayo (late October).

3. Competitors

  • Top-tier real dating: Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, hundreds of millions of installs, subscription-based, with real user pools. Flirsy doesn't compete with them for brand. It feeds on long-tail traffic: people searching "dating app" and people who tap an ad and install on impulse.
  • Other paid chat clones (US Android SOCIAL Top Grossing): LitUp, Muah, Pario, Kizme, Lumi, NightSpark, Nayvi, DateGlow, PeekMeet, and others. AppGazers estimates they bring in $30K–$240K a month, each an order of magnitude bigger than Flirsy. The recall also turned up new clones with the same naming style on AppBrain's "Top New Free Social" chart, such as Lumora (IGOOD GOLF) and Velique, which suggests several teams are running this playbook at once.
  • Established same-model apps: HapEnd, HiZone, Hugi (about 1M installs each, listed 2022–2023 years ago), plus Red Panda App's "Dating and Chat - XXX" series (listed under DATING).
  • Same or similar names: Flirty (flirtyapp.com, real-person dating with a "24-hour chat clock"), Flirtini, Flirt.com, YouFlirt. None of them are related to Flirsy, but they split brand search.
  • How Flirsy differs from these competitors: on product, it's identical to the sibling clones in its matrix and to the other clones in the category. The only real difference is its place in the matrix. It's the October entry.

5. Why it took off

  1. It's a new clone from a mature matrix: the template, copy, and payment model were already proven on Dusky (30k installs), Nudge (25k), and Dote (11k). Flirsy just changed the name, account, and domain (googleplay database).
  2. Category arbitrage: by listing in SOCIAL instead of DATING, about 500 installs a day across the UK, Australia, and Canada was enough to rank in the top 50–75 (chart_rank, app_day_ext).
  3. Rating pumped: in the first week after launch, the rating/install ratio sat near 60%, stars held above 4.7, and store conversion was inflated (app_snap).
  4. Direct monetization: sold by chat count, no refunds, top tier $99.99. A small number of paying users is enough to break even (payment agreement, iap_range).
  5. Short lifespan: after 11-03, its rank dropped 40–60 spots across four countries, and daily installs fell from 527 to 318. The push window is only about 2–3 weeks, and the next one, Sayo, is already live.

6. Differentiation

No product differentiation: features, short description, pricing, and site structure are identical to its sister shells, and indistinguishable from other paid chat shells in the category. What's "different" is only the distribution operation: rotating multiple accounts and shells, picking the SOCIAL category, seeding ratings before launch, and targeting only high-paying English-speaking countries. That's what drives its volume, and within its own portfolio the playbook isn't new. Flirsy is just the latest in line, and smaller than Dote or Winkr.

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Barely known: no TrustMRR listing, no one posting revenue, no media or X coverage, no TikTok or Reddit discussion. Only data aggregators like AppBrain and AppGazers index it automatically.
  • Copycat: it is a copy in itself. Its sibling in the same portfolio, Sayo, launched 10-23, and the category also has the same kind of shell from Lumora, Velique, Nayvi, DateGlow and others. The space is already crowded.

8. What to borrow

  • A Play launch operation where one codebase powers multiple rotating shells: individual developer accounts, minimalist landing pages, a shared legal-document template, and one new shell per month. It spreads the ban risk and decay of any single shell across the portfolio.
  • Choosing a category with a low chart-entry bar (SOCIAL mid-tier) is far cheaper than fighting head-on in the DATING top tier.
  • Monetizing with message packs (capped at $99.99) instead of subscriptions means it can break even even with very few installs.
  • Warning: paid chat dating shells run straight into Google Play policies on "Deceptive behavior," fake profiles, and rating manipulation. A single shell lasts only weeks, and entire account batches can get banned. Selling chat times with no refunds also invites refund disputes and bad reviews.

9. Still unclear

  • Whether it's running ads, on which platforms, or how much it spends (the ad library doesn't track it, which doesn't mean it isn't advertising).
  • Whether the chat partners are real humans, operator-staffed, or AI (the payment agreement only says "chat times"; the review sample is 0 reviews, and this shell has no user quotes).
  • Who is behind the portfolio (account names are all over the place, emails are all gmail, no registered company).
  • Revenue is only AppGazers' modeled estimate (< $5K/month).
  • Whether the decline after 11-03 was a deliberate stop in spending or natural decay.
