A Hong Kong studio's Indian astrology app: 27K installs, at the tail of this niche
What it is A free Indian AI astrology app: it generates a Vedic birth chart (Kundli), chats with an AI astrologer, draws tarot cards and creates a soulmate portrait, earning from in-app ads.
Why it's up It isn't really up. It rode this year's wave of Indian AI astrology apps from 9 to October, and folded in the soulmate portrait that's popular in the West. The installs were most likely pushed up tier by tier through paid acquisition.
DHow you could follow it Don't copy this package; Indian astrology is already crowded. What's worth learning is the method: take a hook already validated abroad and apply it to another country's local astrology demand. Run the same codebase as two packages with swapped hooks and countries, testing in parallel.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-10-08 · 11-07 installs 27,212
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
In October 8, a Hong Kong company called NexLayer Limited listed Jyotiva on Google Play, an AI Vedic astrology app for Indian users. A day earlier it had listed a nearly identical sister package. Less than a month later it had 27K installs and was rising, yet it sits at the tail of the Indian AI astrology niche: Reva, listed in the same period, grew by 716K in a single week. It's worth examining because it lays out a playbook clearly: take a hook validated abroad, apply it to a real need in India, buy installs, and earn back the cost through ads.
A 71-year-old user treats the reviews section as a consultation desk
On Oct 25, Sunil Kumar Jain from Kolkata left a review on Jyotiva's store page that wasn't really a review, it was a question: "I was born in north Kolkata on Aug 13, 1955, at 11:35 a.m. Which gemstones suit me?" 7 people marked it as helpful. The same day another user wrote: "Too many ads, but fine for killing time." On Oct 31 there was another: "Decent, but too many ads." (Google Play India store, 11-06)
These three reviews pretty much sum it up: the audience is mainstream users who aren't very familiar with apps, coming for astrology, and getting a pile of ads.
What it is
You enter your birth date, time and place to generate a Vedic birth chart (Kundli); then chat with the AI astrologer about love and your chart; draw three tarot cards; and generate an "AI soulmate portrait" you can also chat with. It's free, requires no login, and has no in-app purchases. The store page says "for entertainment only". The version has stayed at 1.0.2, and the last update on the store page is 10-16.
Indians have used the first three for years: AstroSage and Astrotalk have been around a long time. Only the last one, the soulmate portrait, is new. It started as a Western and Latin American format, and apps like Amora, Nebula and Starla have large volumes of creator videos on TikTok. Jyotiva's move is to port that hook into the Indian birth-chart framework.
How the volume built up
| Date (Google Play installs) | Total installs | Up from last time |
|---|---|---|
| 10-21 | About 1,000 | Third-party estimate |
| 10-26 | About 3,900 | Third-party estimate |
| 10-31 | 10,816 | +6,892 |
| 11-03 | 22,913 | +12,097 |
| 11-06 | 27,212 | +4,299 (in two days) |
The curve doesn't rise smoothly; it jumps in steps: 10-26, 10-31 and 11-03 each brought a jump, with several days of flat line in between. It has only charted on India's Lifestyle free chart, ranking between 92 and 129. In early November it briefly charted twice in South Africa (188, 170), and it has never charted on the overall or grossing charts.
Where users come from:
- Paid acquisition, inferred. A stepped curve, charting in only one country, no organic buzz outside the store, and ad-based monetization together look most like Google app-ads style buying. The ad libraries show no direct record of its campaigns, and Play's install counts refresh in batches, so some of the steps may be counting delay.
- Store search, partly confirmed. The title stuffs in AI Astrology & Tarot, the package name includes vedic.astrology, and the short description mentions Vedic chart, tarot and soulmate. Indians search for astrology and kundli in huge volumes, but how much of that it captures is unknown.
- Content and community, none. Searching its name on TikTok returns unrelated videos; X has 0 posts in the last 30 days; there is no press coverage.
4.6 stars from 189 reviews, roughly 0.7% of installs, a normal ratio with no sign of fake five-star reviews.
Where the money comes from
Only ads. The developer site nexlayer.biz redirects straight to app-ads.txt, which lists 89 AdMob publisher IDs. That number suggests the domain centrally hosts ad configuration for a large batch of apps or developer accounts, likely a studio mass-publishing packages (inferred). Reviews repeatedly complain about "too many ads", so ads are heavy.
Installs in India are cheap and ad rates are low, so the business question is whether the ads one user sees can pay back the cost of acquiring that install. Whether it actually makes money is not visible from outside.
Another package from the same studio
In October 7, the same developer listed StarGuide: Love & Astrology, whose store description calls it "AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch". A mismatch between name and description is a classic sign of a reskinned package. Its features are nearly identical to Jyotiva's, except the soulmate portrait is placed first, and it targets Mexico, Argentina, the Philippines and India. By 11-06 it had 35K installs, with a stepped curve too.
The two packages went live a day apart: one leads with Vedic birth charts aimed at India, the other leads with soulmate portraits aimed at Latin America and the Philippines. Same codebase, two hooks, two sets of countries, small budgets tested in parallel, and whichever one runs gets more money.
Who it's competing with
Almost everyone. From 9 to October this year, a batch of new AI astrology packages flooded in, and Jyotiva is the late and smaller one in that wave.
| Product (Google Play, 11-06) | Launched | Total installs | 7 new in the last day | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Astrotalk | 2017 | 115M | 580k | Human astrologers charged by the minute; real paying users |
| AstroSage Kundli | 2011 | 82.3M | 295k | Veteran Kundli app with the most complete content |
| Astro99 | 2025 | 16.1M | 1.04M | AI plus humans, large-scale campaigns |
| Reva | 2026-09-08 | 7.73M | 716k | Made by ShareChat's parent company, ranked #2 on India's lifestyle chart |
| Astro AI: Tarot & Horoscope | 2026-09-02 | 2.64M | 97k | Studio packages of the same type with nearly identical feature sets, about 100 times its scale |
| A batch of AI Kundli packages such as VedaSky | Around 2026-09 | 110k to 2M | – | Same type, minus the soulmate portrait |
| Soulmate portrait apps such as Amora | 2025–2026 | 1.39M to 4.7M | – | Focused on the US, Europe and Latin America, with lots of creator content on TikTok |
Further out, ChatGPT has a ready-made Kundli bot, and there are many free online AI birth-chart sites, no app install needed.
Every one of its features was done earlier by bigger players. The only combination it adds, "soulmate portrait inside Vedic astrology", is also largely covered by studio packages like Astro AI, which are two orders of magnitude bigger. Scale is determined by ad budget and creative, not by the product.
If it were you
D. Study the playbook, don't follow it. Indian AI astrology is already crowded: at the top are old brands like Astrotalk and AstroSage, in the middle are players with big-company traffic like Reva, and below is a whole batch of studio packages running the same playbook. Jyotiva is itself a follower at the tail, so following it means trailing behind the tail.
Who it suits: studios that already mass-publish tools and entertainment packages on Google Play, have ad accounts, and can calculate the cost per install versus what one user brings back in ad revenue. For them, "soulmate portrait plus local astrology" is a new theme for the portfolio, worth testing with a small budget.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers trying to build an astrology brand, since nobody here will judge how good your product is; anyone without experience buying ads who is counting on organic store traffic; and anyone hoping to sell subscriptions in India, where Astrotalk's human-paid model already dominates.
How to do it: what's worth learning is the method, not this package. Find a hook already validated abroad (soulmate portrait, AI palm reading) and apply it to astrology demand that already exists in another country. India's path is already worn out; I haven't seen anyone systematically work through the local astrology habits of Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand or the Arabic-speaking world (unverified, count the Play charts and ad libraries in each country before acting). Running two packages on the same codebase with swapped hooks and countries in parallel is a tactic you can copy directly.
How to acquire users: Paid user acquisition is the only real route in this category. Use a hook in your creatives ("see what your partner looks like"), and make sure the hook actually exists in the product. Test in one country with a small budget first. Only scale once cost per install drops below one user's ad revenue (inferred).
When to move: There's no holiday window, but similar apps are shipping every week, so it gets more crowded the later you enter. Test before year-end.
What would prove this read wrong: ① Jyotiva or StarGuide still adding thousands of installs a day after December and entering more countries' charts, which would mean small studios' paid acquisition math works better than it looks; ② a "soulmate portrait plus local astrology" app breaking into a Lifestyle top-20 chart outside India, which would show the formula works and is worth pursuing in other countries; ③ the opposite: this batch of Indian AI astrology studio apps that entered from 9 to October going quiet or flat across the board after January, which would mean the window has closed.

Jyotiva: AI Astrology & Tarot (com.jyotiva.ai.vedic.astrology) research report
Research date: 2026-11-06. Channel: Google Play. Developer: NexLayer Limited (Unit 1501, Prosperity Tower, Central, Hong Kong; phone +852; email [email protected]).
Bottom line
It's not really a breakout. This is an ad-monetized wrapper app from a Hong Kong app studio, an ad-monetized wrapper app that mashes up two trends already proven to work: India's "AI Vedic astrology" and the global "AI soulmate sketch" craze, and aims them at India. 27K installs, #92–129 on India's Lifestyle Top Free chart. Next to its peers that's tail-end territory (Reva gained 716k in a week, Astro99 gained 1.04M). The "7 days +23k" the Recall scoring shows is a stepped climb off a very low base. The most likely source is paid acquisition (probably a Google App campaign), with the money recouped through AdMob ads. The same developer also runs a nearly identical sister app (StarGuide) using the same playbook.

- Store launch date 2026-10-08, version number has stayed at 1.0.2 (the store page's update date is 10-16).
- Charts: almost only on the India Lifestyle free chart, ranking between 92 and 129. 11-03 and 11-04 appeared twice on the South Africa Lifestyle free chart (188, 170). Never reached the overall or top-grossing charts.
- Rating: our library pulled from the US store, where the rating came back empty. The India store page shows 4.6 stars, 189 reviews, in the "10K+" tier (Jina read play.google.com, gl=in, 2026-11-06). Review count is about 0.7% of installs, a normal ratio with no obvious fake-review signal.
- Monetization: no in-app purchases (offers_iap=False in app_snap; ad_supported=False in the US snapshot). But Indian reviews repeatedly mention ads: "Too many ads but good for entertainment" (10-25), "good but too many adds" (10-31). The developer site nexlayer.biz redirects directly to app-ads.txt, which lists 89 AdMob publisher IDs. So it's confirmed to monetize through AdMob ads.
- Sister app: com.starguide.soulmate.astrology, "StarGuide: Love & Astrology," listed on 10-07, store page labeled "Contains ads." Its description calls it "AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch," a mismatch between name and description and a typical sign of a reskin. Its installs added 23,837 over 34,880,7 days, also in steps (11-01 +8,764, 11-02 +7,455, 11-05 +4,814, with 0 growth in between). It charts on the Lifestyle free charts for Mexico, Argentina, the Philippines and India (84–186). The two apps launched one day apart with nearly identical features: Jyotiva focuses on Indian Vedic charts, StarGuide on soulmate sketches, each targeting a different region.
2. Competitors
The India AI astrology space is very crowded, with many new entrants since September 2026 (googleplay library, 2026-11-06):
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (total worldwide installs / 7-day new installs) | How it differs from Jyotiva |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Astrotalk | Android / iOS / web | 2017 | 115M / 580k | Human astrologers charge by the minute; India Lifestyle #7 |
| AstroSage Kundli: AI Astrology | Android / iOS / web | 2011 | 82.3M / 295k | Established chart tool plus AI, the most complete content |
| Astro99 / Tarot99(Primetrace) | Android | 2025 | 16.1M / 1.04M; 10.1M / 530k | AI astrologer plus humans at large ad spend; India Social #6, Lifestyle #4 |
| Reva - Personal AI Astrologer (Askk/Mohalla family) | Android | 2026-09-08 | 7.73M / 716k | Also a new entrant, but backed by a big company's resources (Mohalla, parent of ShareChat); India Lifestyle #2, already on Malaysia's Top Grossing chart at #166 |
| AskPandit: AI Astrology Chat | Android | — | 3.07M / 160k | Indian homegrown brand focused on AI chat |
| Astro AI: Tarot & Horoscope(Ahc Foundation) | Android | 2026-09-02 | 2.64M / 97k | Overseas studio generic-astrology clone of the same type as Jyotiva, roughly 100× its scale |
| MyNaksh / Melooha / NakshAI / VedaSky / Aura AI | Android | 2023–2026-09 | 110k–2M | A large group of AI Kundli apps; VedaSky (listed 09-30, 110k) is the closest in scale to Jyotiva |
| Amora - Astra Soulmate Draw / Amora: A Hint of Your Soulmate / Nova Match | Android/iOS | 2025–2026 | 4.7M / 3.99M / 1.39M | The top players in the "soulmate sketch" category, with lots of creator content on TikTok (Nebula, Starla, Amora, Karma, Himira, etc.) |
| ChatGPT GPTs (such as Jyai), astrojyoti.ai, grahajyoti.com and other web tools | Web tools / big-company features | 2024– | Not verified | Free web-based AI Kundli chat; many substitutes |
Bottom line: Jyotiva's features (Vedic chart + AI astrologer chat + three tarot readings + AI soulmate sketch and chat) each have bigger competitors who got there first. Its only distinct move is "bringing the soulmate sketch into Indian Vedic astrology." But studio products like Astro AI and NakshAI sell nearly the same feature mix.
3. Growth tactics
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (likely Google App campaigns / AdMob cross-promotion) | Installs don't grow smoothly; they jump in three steps on 10-26, 10-31 and 11-03. It charts in only one country. There's no content or media exposure. Ad-monetized apps usually run a "buy installs → recover through AdMob" arbitrage. The sister app shows the same stepped curve in a different set of countries during the same period. | Not confirmed (inferred). The googleads and metaads libraries don't track this app or developer, and the transparency centers haven't been checked. |
| Store search (ASO) | The title is stuffed with "AI Astrology & Tarot", the package name includes vedic.astrology, and the short description reads "AI astrologer chat about Vedic chart, tarot messages and your future soulmate." Search volume for astrology/kundli in India is large. | Partly confirmed (keyword layout is visible; the share of search traffic is unknown) |
| TikTok / creators | A TikHub search for "Jyotiva" only returned unrelated videos such as Jyoti Amge (the world's shortest woman); no relevant results at all. | No (no evidence found) |
| X / Reddit / press | x-radar search for "Jyotiva" over the last 30 days: 0 posts. Jina web search finds no coverage at all, and no third-party APK site writes about it either. | No (no evidence found) |
| A multi-app portfolio from one developer | The same developer's StarGuide/AstroLuna launched one day apart, with the same feature set, targeting different countries. The official site's app-ads.txt lists 89 AdMob pub IDs, which suggests the domain is hosting app-ads.txt for many developer accounts or apps at once, most likely a studio mass-publishing apps. | Partly confirmed (the two apps are confirmed to be the same build; that the 89 IDs belong to one entity is inference) |
4. Why it got traction (what's driving it)
- Timing: From 2026 through 9 October, Indian AI astrology saw a concentrated boom. Reva (09-08), Astro AI (09-02), NakshAI (09-09), and VedaSky (09-30) all launched in this window. Astro99 gained 1M in a week, which suggests these users are cheap to acquire and willing to try AI astrology. Jyotiva launched 10-08 and rode this wave.
- Theme mashup: It combines the "AI soulmate sketch" hook already proven in Western markets (lots of TikTok content from Amora, Nebula, Starla) with Kundli/Vedic chart readings, which are a staple need in India. That gives the ad creatives a fresh angle.
- Low-friction monetization: It's free, requires no login, charges nothing, and relies entirely on AdMob ads. That makes the math work even in a low-ARPU market like India. The reviews saying "too many ads" fit this: it packs in ad volume fairly aggressively.
- Retention: No retention data. A 4.6 rating from 189 reviews, and the reviews read like "which stones favour me…" posted straight into the review box. That suggests mass-market users who aren't very app-savvy (it looks like ad-driven traffic).
5. Differentiation
The differentiation is thin: "Vedic chart + AI chat + tarot + soulmate sketch" in one package, and the only extra is the soulmate sketch hook. That is not why it grew. Growth came from the paid acquisition cadence (stepped jumps) plus a hot category. Similar studio products (Astro AI, NakshAI) use nearly the same combination and are 50–100× bigger, which suggests budget and creatives drive scale, not the product.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: Almost no one knows about it. No media coverage, no X discussion, no TikTok content, and no public revenue.
- Copycats: It is itself a copycat. Dozens of similar apps already exist in both the Indian AI astrology and soulmate sketch spaces. I see no sign of anyone specifically cloning it.
7. Takeaways
- Cross-market theme mashup: Grafting a hook validated in one region (soulmate sketch) onto a need-driven framework from another (India's Kundli), then using that as the paid acquisition creative.
- One developer account runs two isomorphic apps targeting different language markets (India vs. LatAm/Philippines), testing theme and geography in parallel with small budgets.
- Use the "free + heavy ads" model to arbitrage paid acquisition in low-ARPU markets. You need to work out the cost per install and AdMob eCPM carefully.
8. Uncertain
- The acquisition channels and budgets are unverified (not tracked in the ad libraries). "Paid acquisition" is inferred from the curve shape and monetization model. Play's install counter also lags and refreshes in segments, so part of the stepped shape may come from that.
- Unknown whether ad revenue covers acquisition cost, or what retention looks like.
- Unverified who runs NexLayer Limited, and whether the 89 pub IDs in app-ads.txt belong to the same entity.
- US store details couldn't be fetched, so ratings are empty in the database; the 189 reviews come from the India store page.
