"The app is called ozard, DM me for the link": a Turkish exam-prep influencer's AI problem-solving app, and the Astra behind it
What it is An AI exam-prep app that solves problems from photos and turns notes and course videos into quizzes and flashcards, mainly for Turkish university entrance exams, sold on monthly subscription.
Why it took off The founder is a top-student influencer in the Turkish exam scene, with hundreds of thousands of followers and tens of thousands of students. Study accounts then spread it on Instagram with the same line, "DM me for the link", and it arrived just as exam season began in early November.
CHow you could follow this Don't build a general-purpose AI solver. If you have an audience in some exam scene, pick an exam where the big players haven't localized yet, and cold-start with your own channel plus study-account scripts.

Ozard is an AI exam-prep app built by the team of a top-student YouTuber in Turkey's exam-prep scene: it solves problems from photos and turns notes and course videos into mini quizzes. It hit around #20 on the Turkey Google Play Education free chart, adding about 1,200 installs per day. It took off on the founder's ready-made student audience, plus a pitch line that many accounts repeated. Yet #1 on the same chart is a Slovenian app with the same features and even the same subtitle, and it's 45 times bigger. Below: how it took off, why it didn't get bigger, and what you can take from it.
a line repeated across accounts
On 2026 Apr 11, a study account called focuswithzuzu on Instagram posted a reel with one line of caption: "Uygulamanın adı ozard ✍🏻 isteyenlere direkt linkini gönderebilirim ✨" — the app is called ozard, and I'll DM the link to anyone who wants it. The hashtags were #kpss #özet #tıp #yks #not, plus #reklam, Turkish for "advertisement".
Same line, almost word for word, showing up in reels from several other study accounts. Another video from Feb 23 (@studywithayliz) used a different hook: "when you realize the exam questions are exactly what Ozard generated...", and tagged @kantakademi.
That's Ozard's playbook: a group of accounts that look like ordinary students use the same script to push people into the comments and DMs for the link. The last tag also shows whose it is.
Who is behind it
The developer, Kant Labs, is based in Istanbul and was previously called Kant Akademi. Founder Murat Can Kocakulak was the #2019 science-track student in Turkey's university entrance exam (YKS) in 457 and studied computer science at Boğaziçi University. His YouTube channel has 144k subscribers and 24.6M total views (vidIQ, 11-03), mostly about exam prep.
Kant Akademi offers one-on-one exam coaching from older students and claims to have served 40k+ students. Ozard is not the team's first app. Their earlier exam game, "Sınav Oyunları", got 100k downloads in two months and reached #1 in the App Store's Turkish education chart and #9 overall. The study-buddy app Studybud had 7,000 monthly active users (both figures self-reported on LinkedIn). In July 2026, Kant Labs raised a $250k seed pre-round from Anka Ventures (Turkish startup outlet egirisim, 07-14), and before that the team went through an app growth bootcamp run by a publisher.
So this is a team that already has trust with YKS students, and it's cold-starting a new app for the third time with the same audience.
What it sells and how it gets paid
The pitch in one line: snap a photo of a question you can't solve and get step-by-step answers. Upload notes, or paste a course video or YouTube link, and it turns it into notes, quizzes, flashcards, and even a "podcast". It targets Turkish exams: YKS, LGS, and KPSS. The most pushed feature is "generate questions from a video link". Turkish students study heavily from free YouTube courses, so this hook is easier to remember than plain photo solving.
Revenue comes from subscriptions. Google Play lists in-app purchases at $1.99–$149.99. The website's Plus plan is $18.99/month, and the free tier gives 2 notes and 2 solved questions (ozard.ai/plus, 11-06). It has held #41–#44 on Play's Turkish education grossing chart, so there's real money, but not a lot. Actual figures aren't public.
iOS Turkish store: 354 ratings, average 4.35 (App Store, 11-06). The positive reviews are about the notes: "Really useful for class, especially making notes and podcasts from videos, though the podcasts cost money" (11-01). The negative reviews almost all fall into three groups:
"I only bought it to turn video content into PDFs, and the app can't do that. Why do your ads show that feature?" — App Store Turkish store, 08-12,1 star
"A paid version of the same thing as Astra AI. Astra AI is free and does the same things." — App Store Turkish store, 09-12,1 star
"Subscription is too expensive, most features are locked behind it. Another app hyped up by influencers." — App Store Turkish store, 09-05,2 star
A few others say the math answers were wrong, deleting the account didn't work, and features stayed locked after paying.
Where users come from
| Channel | What we saw |
|---|---|
| The founder's own audience | YouTube, 144k subscribers. The kantakademi.com homepage has an Ozard entry ("Her sınav için yapay zekâ hocan", your AI tutor for every exam). The @kantakademi Instagram also promotes it. |
| Turkish-language study-account reels | Several accounts use the same line: "The app is called ozard, DM me if you want the link." At least one is tagged #reklam, meaning it's an ad. |
| English-language study accounts | YouTube and Instagram have student-account videos labeled "Sponsored by Kant Labs". The TikTok #ozard hashtag has 341 posts. |
| Website | ozard.ai sends web visitors into the app through attribution links, and the homepage says "Trusted by 4,000+ students". |
| Paid acquisition | Couldn't find any. Play's install curve is flat, 1,000–1,300 per day, with no concentrated chart push. |
The English push spent money but didn't gain traction. The US iOS store has only 19 ratings and the UK 2 (App Store, 11-06). The iOS page already lists GCSE, A-Level, and IB and supports 13 languages. It has appeared sporadically on the Denmark, Azerbaijan, and North Macedonia charts, but only Turkey has real volume.
The numbers: Play global installs 181,311 (10-29) → 189,979 (11-06), +8,668 over 7 days. Turkey's Play education free chart went #67 (10-29) → #50 (10-31) → #18 (11-03) → #23 (11-06). The jump in early November lines up with Turkish middle-school midterms and university vize exam season (inference).
One more thing: the store lists a release date of 2026-09-29, but App Store Turkish reviews appear from April, and the iOS version was live by 2025-11-20. It isn't a new app that took off after five weeks. It's been building for almost a year and slowly grinding up to this position.

Astra AI launched in August 2025 and advertises across several European countries. It has already taken the "AI exam prep" spot in Turkey. The one-star review that says "Astra is free with the same features" is a real user comparison. Beyond them are global photo-solving apps: Gauth (ByteDance, 135M on Play), Photomath (Google), Brainly, and QANDA, plus Turkish veterans Kunduz (8M) and Sorumatik. There's also a batch of small YKS apps at the same time: Netify, Bobo, Karga, Talebee, each in the tens of thousands to low hundreds of thousands. And ChatGPT and Gemini can already answer questions from photos, for free.
Ozard doesn't have a feature the others lack. It performs somewhat better in Turkey than the Netify group, but the difference is the founder's trust. Outside Turkey that trust doesn't carry, which is why the English push spent money without taking off.
If it were you
C: copy its cold-start playbook, not its category. AI photo solving and notes-to-quiz are among the most crowded education categories globally. In Turkey, players the size of Astra already hold the top spots through multi-country ads, and big companies offer free alternatives. Ozard has an existing audience and funding, and after nearly a year it's only a strong second-tier local app.
Who it suits: people who already have an audience in an exam community, such as top students and creators for a national university entrance exam, civil service exams, medical licensing, or language tests, with tens of thousands to low hundreds of thousands of subscribers, who want to turn that influence into a subscription product.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers with no audience of their own who want to beat Astra or Gauth on features. Anyone aiming at Turkey's YKS (more than a dozen local players already). Anyone building a general English-language exam-prep app (Ozard hit a wall there itself).
How to do it: pick an exam that Astra and Knowunity haven't seriously localized (one country, fixed question formats, a candidate pool of hundreds of thousands), and build content and a question bank tailored to that exam, not a general AI study tool. Copy Ozard's strongest hook, "turn the course video you're watching into exam questions", which is easier to remember than "photo solving". Don't cap the free tier too tightly, and don't advertise features the app can't deliver. Half of its one-star reviews come from those two problems.
How to get users: cold-start with your own channel and community first, then copy its study-account approach. Use a fixed script ("The app is called X, DM me for the link") to get comments going, plus post-exam hooks like "the exam questions are exactly what it generated". Label ads properly.
When to launch: follow the exam calendar. Launch before the final three to four months of prep for your target exam. YKS, for example, happens in June, and other countries have their own dates.
Signs you've read it wrong: ① Astra or Knowunity localizes for the exam you picked and reaches the top 10 of that country's education chart: the gap is gone. ② Your audience brings users in, but daily new installs fall to dozens by the second month: that means creator trust alone can't sustain a subscription app, and you'll need paid acquisition to survive. ③ The reverse: if Ozard breaks into the top 10 of Turkey's grossing chart during next year's YKS season, or the English market actually takes off, then localization plus creator channels can beat the big players in this category, and this path is easier than C.

Ozard: AI Study & Exam Prep (com.kantakademi.sorucozucu) research report
Date: 2026-11-06 · Store: Google Play · Developer: Kant Labs (KANT LABS EGITIM TEKNOLOJILERI A.Ş., Istanbul)
Bottom line
Ozard is an AI photo-solver and notes-to-quiz app from the team behind Turkish YKS exam-prep influencer Murat Can Kocakulak (Kant Akademi → Kant Labs). It ranks around #20 in Turkey's education chart, and the reason is the founder's ready-made exam-prep audience (144k YouTube subscribers, 40k+ Kant Akademi students) plus a templated creator/UGC short-video push, not anything special about the product. It's small: about 1,200 installs a day on Play. The one that actually broke out in this market is Slovenia's Astra AI (8.68M installs on Play, #1 in Turkey's education free chart). Ozard even copies its subtitle, so it's a follower.
1. Data (from our database)
Google Play (googleplay library)
- Global cumulative installs 181,311 (10-29) → 189,979 (11-06), +7 over the last 8,668 days, roughly 1,200 installs/day. Play updates install counts every two or three days, so single-day increments alternate between 0 and 2,000+.
- Only charted in Turkey. Education Top Free: #67 (10-29) → #50 (10-31) → #23 (11-02) → #18 (11-03) → #23 (11-06). Education Top Grossing: #51 → #41–#44.
- Rating count is not public (ratings is empty in the database), and no reviews were captured.
- Listing date: the store shows 2026-09-29, but that is the date reset by a metadata change or storefront expansion. The earliest review in the database is from 2026-04-20, the version is now 3.1.39, and releases come every 2–3 days. An older 1.3.3 build is still on APKPure. The recall card's “launched about 5 weeks ago” is off: the real age is at least 6 months.
- In-app purchases $1.99–$149.99. The website Plus plan is $18.99/month, with a free tier of 2 note-generations and 2 solved questions (ozard.ai/plus).
App Store (appstore database + iTunes lookup)
- Launched on 2025-11-20, earlier on iOS than Play. Turkey store rating 283 (10-28) → 354 (11-06), +9 over 71 days, average 4.35; US store 19 ratings, UK store 2.
- Best Turkey education Top Free rank was #37 (11-02). Azerbaijan hovered between #98 and #163; Denmark and North Macedonia only showed up occasionally.
- Supports 13 languages (AR/AZ/DA/NL/EN/FR/DE/HI/IT/KO/PT/ES/TR). The iOS description cites exam systems like GCSE, A-Level and IB, which shows an intent to replicate across markets, but outside Turkey it has barely gained traction.
Why it jumped in early November: starting 11-02, its rank moved between roughly #50 and #20, and its iOS rating count picked up speed (11-03 single-day +20). The timing overlaps with Turkish middle school midterm exams and university vize season (a guess, not verified), and it may also be tied to a batch of creator videos going up together. Our ad library doesn't track it, so paid acquisition can't be ruled out.

Takeaway: the category is very crowded. In Turkey, Astra AI has already taken the “AI exam prep” slot. Ozard sits in the first tier among local YKS small apps but is not in the same league as Astra.
3. Where users come from
- Founder comes with an audience (confirmed): Murat Can Kocakulak ranked #457 in math/science on the YKS 2019 exam and studies computer science at Boğaziçi. His YouTube channel has 144k subscribers and 24.6M views (vidIQ, 11-03). His Kant Akademi is a peer-to-peer tutoring platform that says it has served 40k+ students (from Kant Labs' LinkedIn funding post). The homepage of kantakademi.com links straight to Ozard ("Her sınav için yapay zekâ hocan"), and the Instagram account @kantakademi also drives traffic to Ozard.
- Templated Turkish UGC / creator reels (confirmed; whether paid is unverified): Several Instagram reels share nearly identical captions: “Uygulamanın adı ozard, isteyenlere linkini gönderebilirim” (the app is called ozard, I can DM the link to anyone who wants it). Examples include DW-3DraEkuV, DW6SiIzEok5, DXHW_Z_kl4G, DYP4rSQSz6d and DWO_CfKDaD2. Another selling video, “send the course video link to Ozard and it makes questions like the exam ones” (DVG3jrAjC_D), is also in the mix. This is a classic creator-network or seeding-account playbook.
- Paid UGC for the English market (confirmed): YouTube and Instagram carry student-account videos labeled “Sponsored by Kant Labs” (@jake.studies2, laurena.study, and others). The TikTok #ozard hashtag has 341 posts, and “study” accounts such as @aylastudy6 and @studyhack_lab are posting Ozard tutorials. This groundwork is for the English-speaking iOS market and wider expansion. No English-market traction is visible yet (the US iOS store has only 19 ratings).
- Web funnel (confirmed): ozard.ai uses AppsFlyer OneLink (pid=ozard_web, c=web_to_app_evergreen) to send web visitors into the app. The homepage reads “Trusted by 4,000+ students”.
- Accelerator / publisher resources (confirmed): In 2026, Kant Labs took part in Neon Apps × RevenueCat's App Growth Championship (a 48-hour hackathon plus a 60-day Growth Lab, with publisher mentors). In July it raised a $250k pre-seed from Anka Ventures (egirisim 2026-07-14, Swipeline, Dealroom). The money and publisher know-how are likely going toward paid acquisition and creators.
- Paid ads (unverified): metaads, tiktokads and googleads show no record of Ozard or Kant Labs, but that does not prove no spend. The Play growth curve is fairly flat (about 1,000–1,300 a day), unlike the pattern of a concentrated paid push.
4. Why it took off (and why it didn't get bigger)
- Ready-made audience: Each year, roughly 500k–1M people in Turkey prepare for the YKS (per the founder's LinkedIn estimate), and the founder is the older-student influencer for that crowd. The team's earlier “Sınav Oyunları” (exam mini-games) hit 100k downloads within two months of launch, reached #1 in the Turkey App Store education chart and #9 overall. Studybud had 7,000 monthly actives. This shows a repeatable cold-start ability within this community. Ozard is the third product using the same playbook.
- Localized selling points: Photo-solving built around the YKS, LGS and KPSS, plus “turn course videos or YouTube links into exam questions”. That matches how Turkish students watch a lot of YouTube lessons (the founder built his following on YouTube).
- Willingness to pay: The Turkey education Top Grossing chart holds steady at #41–#44, which means there is real subscription revenue, but not much of it.
- Why it hasn't grown big: The product features (solving, notes, quizzes, flashcards, podcasts) are essentially the same as Astra AI, Knowunity and Gauth. Astra has used multi-country paid acquisition to hold the top spots in Turkey. Ozard's English-market and multi-country expansion has not shown results yet.
5. Differentiation
- The real differentiator is distribution, not the product. The founder has trust within the YKS community, plus the Kant Akademi student pool and Turkish-language seeding videos. Outside Turkey, that edge disappears.
- Smaller product touches: photo-solving that works from YouTube and course-video links (the feature the Instagram videos push hardest), personalized notebook covers, and localization to each country's exam calendar. All of these are easy to copy, and none explains why it took off.
6. How many people have seen it
- Kant Labs' funding was covered by Turkish startup media (egirisim, Swipeline, Dealroom). Ozard's own revenue and download figures are not public. On X there are 0 mentions (x-radar, last 90 days), and no English-language press coverage.
- Assessment: it is circulating within small circles (Turkish startup communities and YKS student groups).
7. Copycats
No copycat of Ozard specifically has been found. If anything, it is copying Astra AI (the subtitle and features match). Turkish local players active at the same time include Netify, Bobo, Karga, Shifu AI and Dolfi, a group of YKS AI small apps that compete in parallel rather than imitate Ozard.
8. What to borrow
- “Exam-community influencer + tool apps”: someone trusted by an exam audience (a top-student YouTuber) builds several low-cost AI tools (gamified quiz practice, study-buddy matching, AI problem solving), each cold-starting to 100k-level downloads on the strength of the existing audience.
- Templated seeding scripts: comment-section hooks like “the app is called X, DM me for the link” capture engagement and conversions at the same time.
- YouTube link to quiz: the selling point fits a market where everyone watches free course videos, which is more memorable than plain photo-solving.
9. Uncertain
- Whether it has bought ads on Meta / TikTok / Google (none of the three ad libraries track it).
- Whether creator videos are paid or organic from students (the Turkish-language ones are not labeled sponsored; the English ones are).
- Why the November ranking rose: exam season, a coordinated creator push, or paid ads?
- Revenue scale: only the Turkey education Top Grossing rank of #41–#44 is known, with no more specific figure. The recall card's “Kant Akademi first-month 1.999 TL” was not verified this time.
