8 Billion Lives: Life Sim · KueMiin

Other people's web games are flooding feeds, so it goes to the stores to catch them: a small Vietnamese studio's "8 Billion Lives" got 25k installs in two weeks

What it is A pixel-art life sim app that randomly assigns you a birth based on real birth probabilities and runs a whole life in about a minute per year. It's an Android copycat of the viral web game "1 in 8 Billion."

Why it took off The original was all over TikTok in many countries but had no official app. People who saw the videos searched Google Play for "8 billion" and "life sim", and this app came up. It was also listed in the low-competition lifestyle category, so one or two thousand installs a day was enough to chart in several countries.

CHow you could follow Don't build in this theme again. Copy the approach instead: watch small web games that just went viral and whose creators haven't shipped an app yet, put a native version out within two or three weeks, name it around the search terms people use, and pick a category with less competition.

C grade: the "web hit → native app" time-gap play is worth learning, but this theme already has seven or eight copycats and interest is fading (HAYO's daily installs dropped from 24k to 1,300). Once the original's official app is out, the traffic goes to it, so jumping in now isn't worth it. Few people know about this yet

A web game "1 in 8 Billion," built by a Korean developer with AI in a few hours, has been spreading across Japan, Russia, and Southeast Asia, but the creator has never released a mobile version. Vietnamese studio KueMiin put out an app with the same gameplay on Google Play in Oct 22, called "8 Billion Lives: Life Sim." It got 25k installs in two weeks with no paid ads and no one making videos for it. What it sells isn't the product, it's a window of time. That window is closing now.

"A very sad website: your whole life plays out right in front of you."

On Oct 24, Russian TikTok creator error_its_me posted a video with a one-line caption: "1in8b.life, take it if you want. It's actually a sad little site: an entire life plays out in front of you." The video reached 2.75M views and 320k likes (TikTok, 11-06). Two days earlier, another Russian creator, randalainen, had a video on the same topic with 1.39M views. Earlier still, Vietnam's beatvn_official posted about it in Oct 12, with 930k views.

The videos show the web version. Someone who wants to play it on their phone opens the app store and searches "1 in 8 billion," "8 billion," or "life simulator." There is no official app, so the results are other people's apps.

KueMiin's app was listed right between those two Russian videos. Its cumulative Google Play installs went from 10-29 at 4,649 to 10-31 at 15,978, then 11-06 at 25,291 (Google Play install counts). The peak came a few days after the TikTok view peak, which fits the path of seeing a video, then searching the store.

The parent: one person, a few hours, one web game

"1 in 8 Billion" (Korean title "80억 분의 1") was made by Korean indie developer 진휘어스 (Jin Hwi-eus). Korean media say he worked with AI and finished it in about four hours, and it was made public in early October (Hankyoreh21 and namu.wiki give Oct 7). The mechanic: based on real birth probabilities, it randomly places you as one of today's newborns worldwide, across 172 countries. Income, illness, war, and early death all follow local statistics. You make choices year by year, then watch the whole life play back.

Around Oct 13 it went viral on Japanese X (AUTOMATON and ASCII.jp both covered it), then spread to Taiwan, Hong Kong, China (Tencent News 10-23), Russia, and France. The official site is still a web game, free to play, with a 3-dollar "memorial pass" (official site, 11-06). There is no official app.

What it is

The store page's first line reads "Of 8B people, which life will be yours?" On opening, a map spins and lands you on a country, a city, and a family based on real birth probabilities. After that, each year takes about a minute. The diary logs your first words, your best friend, your first job, a cat that wandered in and stayed. At key moments you choose: keep studying or go earn money, move to the city or not, get married or not, care for your parents or not.

Compared with the original web game, this is a native app that works offline. It adds pixel graphics, music, 1x to 16x speed-up, and a closing "life replay." It claims to cover 200 countries, with data from the UN, World Bank, and WHO. It's free to download, ad-supported, with in-app purchases of $9.99 to $19.99 each. Version 1.0.4. The store page shows no rating yet and no reviews.

KueMiin is not new to this. On Google Play it also has "Monster Music DIY: Mix Beats" (920k installs, launched in December 2025) and an aim trainer called "AimPro" (690k installs, up 7k in the last 118 days). The developer name on file is Bui Le Duc (Google Play, 11-06). It has also already shipped "Animal Life: Wild Simulator" with the same structure: you're randomly born as one of 70 animals, make choices stage by stage, and end with a replay clip. It's a small factory that ships whatever is trending.

Where the traffic comes from

Almost all of it is spillover from store search. The title hits both "8 Billion" and "Life Sim," and the store links in Google search results carry utm_term="8 billion lives" life sim. The countries where it charted (Vietnam, Thailand, Poland, plus Android-heavy markets like the Philippines and Nigeria) largely overlap with where the original trends on TikTok. Russia isn't in the chart data, but Russian-language videos were the most viral, so it may be the biggest unseen source (inference).

Smart category choice. Rival apps on the same theme sit in "Games · Simulation," where they compete with real games. KueMiin put its app in "Lifestyle," where one or two thousand installs a day is enough to chart in several countries, and charting brings more exposure.

No sign of paid acquisition or original content. Searching its name on TikTok turns up no videos made for it, no one mentions it on X, and the install curve rises in one wave and then falls, unlike steady paid campaigns.

HAYO's numbers already show interest fading: daily installs dropped from about 10-30k to about 24k at 11-06 and 1,300. Counting web, Android, iOS, and Roblox copies of this theme together, there are at least seven or eight.

If it were you

One-line verdict: this theme is already late. Don't build a ninth "8 Billion." What's worth copying is KueMiin's approach: watch for web games that just went viral and whose creators haven't released an app, and get a native version into the store within two or three weeks.

Who it suits: small teams or solo builders who move fast, can ship a usable Android version in a week, and don't mind throwing it away after. Also people who already run a few apps and understand store keywords and categories.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone trying to build a product with lasting retention and gradual monetization. Anyone who cares about copyright and reputation should note that this path is one step from piggybacking. If the original creator ships an official app, or the store decides you're misleading users, the traffic disappears.

How to do it: each day, check X, TikTok, and Reddit r/WebGames for web games that are going viral. Look for three types: ones an AI built in a few days, ones where the creator says "app coming soon" but hasn't shipped it, and ones whose gameplay is a complete experience you can finish (a life, a journey, an ending). Once you've confirmed nobody owns the store slot, name your app with "number or core keyword + category word" instead of the original name. Pick a low-competition category. Add things the original lacks, like offline play, replays, or music, to keep people who arrive from search. KueMiin took the "birth → yearly choices → replay" template and ran it again with animals. A template that works can be reused.

How to get users: you don't need to make content. The original's videos are your ads. Your job is to be on the first screen of results at the moment someone searches: put the several ways people search for the original in your title and short description, and launch as early as you can instead of waiting for polish.

When to move: the window is measured in weeks. For "8 Billion," launching after mid-November will mostly miss the traffic. For the next theme, launch within two or three weeks of it going viral.

Signs you've misread it: (1) KueMiin's daily installs fall to a few hundred or less and ratings don't come in, meaning the people arriving from search aren't staying. This approach would only bring one-time installs, and ads and in-app purchases wouldn't cover the cost. (2) Once the original's official app launches, the copycat's installs drop to zero within a few days, meaning the window is shorter than you think. (3) Google Play starts mass-removing apps that trade on the name.

Where users come from
  • Verified Store-search spillover from a viral web page: the original went live 10-05, blew up on X in Japan from 10-13 (ASCII.jp 10-15), then hit 10-22~24 with a single Russian-language TikTok at 1.39M/2.75M views. The official site said the app was "coming soon" to the App Store and Google Play, but it never shipped. KueMiin launched on 10-22 with the title "8 Billion Lives: Life Sim". The Google store link carries utm_term="8 billion lives" life sim (Jina search results)
  • Verified Charted in the low-barrier LIFESTYLE category: the same-theme HAYO is in GAME_SIMULATION, while KueMiin is in LIFESTYLE. At ~1-2K installs/day it charted on LIFESTYLE free charts in 7 countries (Philippines, Poland, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, UK, etc.), ranks 62~198. An appfigures search summary shows it at #6 on Ukraine's Google Play LIFESTYLE chart (date unverified)
  • Verified Indirect organic spread of the original on TikTok across countries: TikHub: randalainen 1.39M, error_its_me 2.75M, beatvn_official 930k (Vietnam), xtgoyun 280k (Turkey), plengpakidd 77k (Thailand). The countries where it charted (Vietnam, Thailand, Ukraine, Poland) largely match these hotspots. I found no videos made for KueMiin itself
  • Inferred Keyword-SEO web funnel: eightbillionlives.com was registered 10-17, and its structured data keywords are all "1 in 8 billion game". Its feature description overlaps with this app, but the page has no Play link and nothing proves it belongs to KueMiin
  • Inferred Paid acquisition: no evidence. The metaads/googleads libraries don't track it, and I found no ad creatives on TikTok/X. The curve peaks once and then declines, which doesn't look like sustained spend

Why 8 Billion Lives: Life Sim (com.kuemiin.lifesimulator) took off

In one line: this app is an Android knockoff of the viral web game "1 in 8 Billion" / "80억 분의 1", made by KueMiin, a small Vietnamese studio. The original was everywhere on social media but never shipped an app. KueMiin launched at the peak of the hype (10-22), caught the store search spillover with the name "8 Billion + Life Sim", and charted in the low-barrier LIFESTYLE category. It took off on other people's hype and store search, not on the product itself or on paid ads.

Best was #62 in the Philippines (11-01), with other ranks 133~198 in Poland, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, Argentina, Thailand, and the Netherlands (chart_rank). An appfigures search summary shows it at #6 on Ukraine's LIFESTYLE chart, date unverified; Ukraine isn't in our database.
  • In-app purchases $9.99~19.99 per item, with ads, version 1.0.4 (updated 10-26). The store page doesn't show a rating yet (app_snap).
  • No iOS version (the appstore database can't find it by name).

2. The parent: how "1 in 8 Billion" went viral

  • 10-05: Korean indie developer Jin Hwi-eus (operator Jin's Earth) built the web version in about 4 hours with generative AI (the official About page says Anthropic Claude). They shared progress on Threads as they went, bought the domain that night, and launched at 1in8b.life (ASCII.jp 10-15, citing a report from Korea's Kukmin Ilbo 10-10; vibegamedb).
  • Since 10-13: it blew up on X in Japan. AUTOMATON 10-13 called it "during the pandemic," ASCII.jp called it "大バズり." It then spread to Taiwan (Marie Claire TW), Hong Kong (HK01), South Korea (Hankyoreh21, a namu.wiki entry), China (Tencent News 10-23, "viral overseas"), Russia (T—Zh 10-27, which said it first caught fire on X's Asian side in October), and France (M6 info).
  • TikTok (TikHub search): Russian-speaking region error_its_me 2.75M views (10-24), randalainen 1.39M (10-22), mmmorozov 140k; Vietnam beatvn_official 930k (10-12); Turkey xtgoyun 280k; Thailand plengpakidd 77k. Views peaked around 10-20~10-28.
  • The official site kept saying the app was "coming soon to the App Store and Google Play" (recall card), and the official app still hasn't shipped. That's where the gap in demand in the store came from.

KueMiin reuses the same template: Animal Life: Wild Simulator (com.kuemiin.animallife) is "randomly born as one of 70 animal species → choose step by step → 1x~16x → a replay clip at the end", the same structure as the life sim.

4. Where users come from

  1. Store-search spillover (strongest evidence): the web game went viral, and mobile users searched the Play Store for "1 in 8 billion", "8 billion", and "life simulator". KueMiin's title covers both "8 Billion" and "Life Sim". The store link in Google search results carries utm_term="8 billion lives" life sim. Install peaks (10-29~31) came a few days after the Russian TikTok views peaked (10-22~24), which fits the path of "see the video → search the store".
  2. Category choice: HAYO competes for placement in GAME_SIMULATION with big games. KueMiin sits in LIFESTYLE, where 1-2K installs a day is enough to chart in several countries, and charting brings more exposure.
  3. Regions: the countries where it charted (Vietnam, Thailand, Poland, Ukraine, plus Android-heavy markets like the Philippines and Nigeria) largely overlap with the original's TikTok hotspots. Russia isn't in our chart database, but Russian TikTok had the highest views and may be the biggest unobserved source (unverified).
  4. Paid acquisition: no evidence found. metaads/googleads don't track it, and there are no creatives on TikTok or X. The curve peaks once and then declines, which doesn't look like sustained spend.
  5. No creator content: a TikHub search for "8 billion lives" only turned up unrelated videos and a street-interview show with the same name (@eightbillionlives). The X corpus (x-radar) has 0 posts.

5. Differentiation, and whether it's really why it grew

  • Compared with the original, it adds a native app with offline play, a pixel-style "life replay clip", music, data for 200 countries, and people born in the same second.
  • Compared with HAYO, it has a different name, a different category, higher prices, and Android only.
  • None of these explain the traffic. The traffic came from showing up in search results while the official app was missing and HAYO hadn't yet taken the keyword. The product is more polished than a typical reskin, which may help retention, but with no ratings or reviews yet, that can't be verified.

6. Visibility

  • No one has written about this app, it has no public revenue, it has 0 posts on X, and there's no dedicated TikTok content. It's "not well known yet".
  • But the theme it's riding has already been covered by media in many countries. Copycat web pages, Roblox games, Android and iOS versions add up to at least seven or eight, so the space is already crowded.

7. What's worth borrowing

  • Arbitrage in the "viral web game → native app" window: when an AI-built web mini-game goes viral on social media and its author hasn't shipped an app, you have two or three weeks to launch a native version under a name that is not infringing but still captures the keyword ("number + category word").
  • Pick a low-barrier category to get chart exposure.
  • Turn "random birth → choose year by year → replay clip" into a template and reskin it (people, animals, ...).
  • Risks: heat decays fast (HAYO already fell from 24k a day to 1,300). Once the original's official app ships, search traffic gets taken. High-ticket in-app purchases ($9.99~19.99) may not convert in emerging markets.

8. Uncertain

  • Install distribution by country, especially Russia and Ukraine.
  • Whether eightbillionlives.com is KueMiin's web funnel.
  • Whether there is paid promotion.
  • In-app purchase revenue and retention.
  • When the original's official app ships.
  • Why the rating count still isn't showing.
