Letter4U - Letter & Gift Maker · Kenji Buena

A ₱29 web love letter: a solo Filipino developer who acted out the long-distance relationship himself, drew 80k people to his site

What it is A web love-letter tool: pick a template, fill in words and add photos, and it generates a PIN-locked link with a 3D scene to send to your partner, charged by credits at a few dozen pesos.

Why it took off The developer films POV TikToks of couples and long-distance relationships, showing only the moment of receiving the gift, which hits two real needs of young Filipinos: monthsaries and the common long-distance relationship. Each gift is a link, so the recipient becomes the next wave of users.

BHow you could take it on Don't copy the Philippines. Pick a Southeast Asian country nobody has seriously built for yet, do the web version in the local language with local anniversaries and small pricing, film the gift-receiving POVs yourself, then give small creators 50% commission with referral codes, and launch before Valentine's Day 2027.

Grade B: the need is real, the playbook is clear, one person can build it, and few people know about it. But the features have no moat, English and Indonesian versions already exist, the price is a few dozen pesos with a low revenue ceiling, and acquisition rests entirely on whether he can make viral videos. His videos from after October are down to a few hundred views. Chatter in small circles

Filipino indie developer Kenji Buena built a web love-letter generator, Letter4U: pick a template, fill in words, add photos, and generate a link to send to your partner. It took off without features or paid acquisition. He filmed himself on TikTok as a long-distance partner receiving a web love letter; a few videos together passed a million views, and the site collected 80k sign-ups in half a year. The Android version he listed in October has only 3,173 installs. This piece covers how it took off, where the money comes from, and why this playbook can be run again in another country.

A video with 690k views

2026 Apr 15, the TikTok account @kiiinji posted a video with just one line of text:

sending her virtual letters cus we're in a long distance relationship

No features, no pricing, just an open love letter on screen. As of Nov 6, the video has 692k plays and 33k likes, with 4,193 comments. The top-liked comments are "haha might try this" and a long Taglish (Tagalog-English mix) comment: "this idea is so unique, especially for people in LDRs like me."

8 days later, in Apr 23, he posted a set of numbers on Instagram: 5 days, 700k views, 6,000 sign-ups, and 2,170+ pages made. In Sep 4 he posted on Facebook: "Letter4U registered users hit 80k."

This account belongs to the developer of Letter4U himself. The bio lists a business email, and later video captions all include "letter4u.me or search it in playstore."

What it is: a link that opens into a small surprise

Open letter4u.me and the homepage opens with "A little page made with a lot of heart." Below is an "occasion inspiration board" that lets you pick templates by occasion, so you're not staring at a blank form:

  • Secret Valentine Letter: the recipient must enter a four-digit PIN to open the love letter;
  • Galaxy-Locked Love Letter: a lock with a constellation pattern, and once unlocked, photos fly out with a "big bang" effect;
  • Birthday Memory Cake: each photo gets a birthday wish, assembled into a cake;
  • 3D snow globes, 3D bouquets, a little house you can walk into to see photos, a potion cauldron, teddy bears, a teacher appreciation chalkboard, graduation caps...

After publishing, you get a letter4u.me/viewer/... link to send via Messenger, and the recipient opens it and unlocks it step by step. The Google Play version launched in Sep 23, and in Oct 2 it announced a "couple home screen widget," which is essentially a web wrapper in an app shell.

Why the Philippines, and why now

Nearly every video is tagged #monthsary and #ldr.

Monthsary (monthly anniversary) is a habit among young Filipino couples: they celebrate every month together, twelve times a year. Physical gifts are too expensive, and a plain "happy monthsary" feels too light. A web page that costs a few dozen pesos, can be opened, and feels ceremonial hits the sweet spot.

LDR (long-distance relationship) is very common in the Philippines: lots of overseas workers, and students moving to Manila or Cebu. When you're not together, the only gift you can give is a link.

Put together, the demand is frequent, low-priced, and impulse-driven, and every gift sent is seen by the person receiving it. Whoever opens the gift sees the letter4u.me link, and the next time they're the one giving a gift, they'll likely use it too (inference).

Where users come from: the developer is the protagonist

His best videos all ran from 4 to August (TikTok views, 11-06):

DateViewsCaption
04-15692ksending her virtual letters cus we're in a long distance relationship
05-04420klook what I found, a free site for making cute love letter pages, link in bio
05-11367kmy boyfriend made sure my birthday was special even though we're far apart
08-29184kI always feel so lucky to have him...
07-12164kgirlfriend going way overboard, made this for him

The formula is fixed: first-person couple POV, "my boyfriend made me a website," "LDR anniversary gift," acting out only the moment of receiving the gift, no feature explanations, link in bio. He also swaps roles, sometimes playing the boyfriend, sometimes the girlfriend, sometimes with #wlw (women-loving-women) tags.

Several things support this main engine:

  • Bystander footage. In Apr 24, @jjnna.may posted "I saw Kenji made this free love letter website," with 380k views.
  • Trading follows for credits. The site's "Earn" page says "one account, complete one social task, get 1 free credits," with tasks like liking and following his account. There's also a daily check-in that requires staying on the page for 10 seconds, with streaks counted by Philippine time; miss a day and you start over from day one.
  • Revenue share for creators. The same site recruits promoters: fill in your follower count, profile link, and desired discount code. Orders placed with your code earn a 50% commission, and there's a "ready-to-post asset pack." The "use code LOVE" on TikTok came from this.
  • Comment sections. Under the viral videos, the most-liked comments are often long, ad-like Taglish paragraphs: "I recommended it to at least 20 people last week and every one came back to thank me," "this website feels like it was made by someone who really believes in love." There are also generic praise comments in Arabic and Indonesian. One user replied "what in the ai is the comment section." The comment sections are likely seeded (inference, unverified).

After October, this engine clearly stalled. From Oct 18 to Nov 2 he posted 7 videos, each getting only 400 to 700 views. The Play install curve is also lukewarm (Google Play installs): 10-29, 2,086,10-31, 2,560,11-03, 2,933,11-05, and 3,173,7 days later it added 1,087, only in one Philippine storefront, ranking between #101 and #132 in the Art & Design free chart. The app now mostly draws on the website's existing users.

The money: sold by credit, a page costs a few dozen pesos

Website store prices (11-06):

PackageOriginal priceCurrent priceApprox. USD
1 credit₱29₱29$0.5
3 credits₱87₱50$0.9
8 credits₱232₱100$1.7
18 credits₱435₱200$3.4

Most templates cost "3 credits and up, with price scaling by text length and photo size," and a few simple templates cost 1 credit. The Play version's in-app purchases run from $0.49 to $3.19 per tier, which are these packs. The homepage banner also says: "I'm taking custom website and app commissions, chat with me on Messenger." The product also serves as his freelance showcase.

Revenue isn't public. Here's a rough sense of scale (pure estimation): if 5% of 80k sign-ups paid once at an average of ₱100, that's about ₱400k total, roughly $7,000. Doubling the conversion rate only gets you to the low tens of thousands of dollars. This is a low-ticket business that relies on volume. People do care about the payment point, though: under the video with 420k views, the top-liked comment is "don't waste your time, making one requires credits, and credits cost real money." Someone else uploaded "letter4u unli credits" (unlimited credits) to TikTok, with 6,400 views.

Who it's competing with

The category has a very low barrier to entry, and many people around the world are building it at the same time:

NameWhereScaleHow it differs from Letter4U
2-luvWebHomepage claims 340k people have made a letterAimed at Europe and the Americas, one letter with 8 "moments," QR code, pay after preview

Letter4U isn't the first, nor the biggest. It wins on two things: first, it's local, with monthsary, Taglish, and peso pricing, and the developer is himself a young Filipino; second, its templates feel like toys, PIN locks, starry-sky locks, 3D snow globes, which suit short videos better than a plain text letter. Anyone can copy the features in a week or two, and Garden Letters and letterforu are already copying them.

If it were you

One-line verdict: worth trying, but don't copy the Philippines, copy the playbook. Pick a Southeast Asian country no one is seriously working yet, and redo the "web gift + acting out receiving it in POV" approach with the local language, local anniversary customs, and small local-currency pricing. It's a small business you can build. It's hard to make it big.

Who it suits: you're a young local yourself, or you know someone willing to appear on camera; you can shoot, and you're willing to film couple POV short videos; you can use tools like Lovable or v0 to put together a website in a week or two. This is something one person can finish.

Who it doesn't suit: people unwilling to show their face, who can't shoot short videos, or who expect organic app store traffic. Letter4U's app version doesn't rely on videos, and after over two months it has only three thousand installs. If you want the English market, skip this; 2-luv, LoveTale, and gifft.me are already there. If you're counting on it to support yourself, the price per sale is too low, so weigh that carefully.

How to build it: start with the website, not the app. The gift is a link, and the recipient doesn't need to install anything. Prepare 5 to 10 templates that feel ceremonial when opened: PIN lock, open envelope, unwrap gift box, 3D small scenes, pretty enough to be worth filming. Charge small credit amounts, keep the first purchase below the price of a milk tea, and give a few free credits on sign-up. At the bottom of the page the recipient opens, add a "I want to make one too" button.

How to get users: you are the protagonist. Act out first-person "my partner made this for me," film only the moment of receiving it, one video a day, with local anniversary terms as tags. At the same time, launch a promoter revenue share, giving small creators who post videos with your code a 50% commission. Letter4U does exactly this now. Before picking a country, think it through: Indonesia already has UcapanPacar posting daily; for Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia I haven't seen any obvious local players (unverified; first search TikTok for "love letter website" in the local language and see).

Before when: launch before the 2027 Valentine's Day. January posted POV videos daily. Valentine's is the biggest peak for this category all year. Miss it and you're waiting for national holidays and graduation season.

Signs you're reading it wrong: ① You post 30 POV videos in a row and none pass 50k views. Acquisition here is all content. If content doesn't take off, nothing else matters. ② After the free credits run out, fewer than 2% of signups pay. Locals will play but won't pay. ③ Big tools like Canva and CapCut launch free "make a shareable interactive gift page" templates and the category gets flattened overnight. ④ On the flip side, if you see local sites like UcapanPacar running steady Meta ads, the unit price is low but the math works, so it's worth adding spend.

Why Letter4U - Letter & Gift Maker (com.letter4u.app) took off

Channel: Google Play | Developer: Kenji Buena (Filipino indie dev, TikTok @kiiinji, IG @_kiiinji, FB devk08) | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

Letter4U's root isn't Play. It's the web version letter4u.me, launched in April 2026. The developer posted POV TikToks of a long-distance girlfriend getting a web love letter. Several hits (690k, 420k, 370k views each) plus passerby re-posts caught a high-frequency, low-price, impulse scenario among young Filipinos: monthsary (monthly anniversary) and long-distance surprises. Web signups reached 2026-09 users, 80k. The Play version (listed 2026-09-23, announced Oct 2) just funnels the web base and TikTok traffic into the app. Scale is small: 3173 installs, PH store only. Its edge is localized PH scenarios and pricing (monthsary, LDR, credits from 85 pesos a card), plus more toy-like 3D and interactive templates (PIN lock, snow globe, cake, galaxy lock, cottage garden). The features themselves are very similar. What made it work is mainly the playbook where the developer is also the content creator.

1. Data (from our database)

  • googleplay library app_profile: installs 3173, installs_gain_7d 1087, no ratings count, PH store only. Listed 2026-09-23. In-app purchases $0.49–3.19.
  • app_day: 10-29 2086 → 10-31 2560 → 11-03 2933 → 11-05 3173. Steps up every 2–3 days (+474/+373/+240), matching Play's install refresh rhythm. Daily gains are slowly declining.
  • chart_rank: ranked between #10-29 and #11-06 in PH ART_AND_DESIGN top free, mostly #101–#132 (the #122 bar is low on this chart).
  • Verdict: Play is "small and steady". No chart run, no sign of paid acquisition.

2. Where users come from (growth tactics)

2.1 Developer's own TikTok: the main engine (confirmed)

TikHub pulled the @kiiinji account: 11,294 followers, 177k likes, 91 videos. Bio lists a business email, captions say "letter4u.me or search it in playstore". Most high-view videos cluster in the web-era 4–August window:

DateViewsItem
2026-04-15692k“sending her virtual letters cus we're in a long distance relationship”
2026-05-04420k“look at what I found, a free website to create cute, shareable love pages”
2026-05-11367k“my man made sure my birthday would be special even we're in distance”
2026-08-29184k“I'll always feel lucky to have him…”
2026-07-12164k“Girlfriended so bad I made this for him”
2026-05-0478kcute virtual love letters

Approach: first-person couple POV ("my boyfriend made me a website", "long distance", "monthsary gift"). No features explained, just acting out the moment of receiving the gift. Comments then push "Comment LETTER4U" or "link at bio". Clear decline after October: videos from 10-18 to 11-02 only get 400–700 views. That lines up with the Play version's lukewarm ~+1000 a week, suggesting it now lives on its existing base.

2.2 Organic UGC from passersby (confirmed)

  • @jjnna.may posted "I saw this free loveletter website by Kenji" on 2026-04-24, with 380k views (TikHub). The web version scaled early on this kind of second-hand sharing.
  • @keagen.peck "Letter4u - use code LOVE" (1k views). The developer is using promo codes.
  • @welpup "letter4u unli credits" (6.4k). People are spreading cracks or unlimited-credit hacks, which shows the paid features matter to users.

2.3 Social tasks for free credits (confirmed)

Developer's IG post (2026-04-23): "users can get 1 FREE credit by completing simple social tasks like liking or following". Trading free credits for follows and likes grows their account, a built-in referral loop. The FB post also mentions "Free credits when you sign up, plus 3 free credits each…" (truncated in source).

2.4 The output itself is distribution (inferred, likely)

Every letter generates a shareable link (letter4u.me/viewer/...). The recipient opens it and sees the product. Recipients become users. That's a natural viral loop for this category.

2.5 Developer communities and directories (confirmed, small scale)

  • Facebook "App Builders PH" community post (recall card: 189 likes, 96 comments).
  • The developer publicly shares numbers on IG and FB: "5 days 700k views / 6000+ signups / 2170+ pages" (IG, 2026-04-23), "Letter4U has reached 80,000 registered users!" (FB devk08,2026-09-04, appearing in Sola Na's page reposts).
  • Listed on the lovableapp.org directory (2026-06 published, 10-10 updated). The web version was likely built with Lovable, with utm backlinks.

2.6 what I didn't find

  • x-radar: no mentions of "letter180u" in the last 4 days. No press coverage. No Reddit discussion found.
  • Our ad library shows no ads (it only tracks listed products, so no result doesn't mean no spend).
  • The FB pages "Sola Na" and "Geh Lang" repost Kenji's posts. Whether they're his own alt-account network is unverified.

3. Where the money comes from

  • The web version uses credits: "Starts at 3 credits; the price follows your writing and photo sizes" (letter4u.me homepage). TikTok pricing copy reads "🌷 🎂: 85 PHP" (Jina search snippet).
  • Play in-app purchases are $0.49–3.19 each, which are credit packs.
  • Side hustle: the homepage says "I am now accepting website and application commissions" (take orders via Messenger), and the lovableapp listing also says you can DM for a custom 1:1 couples site. The product doubles as his storefront for client work.
  • Revenue is not public.

Takeaway: This is a "couple web gift" category many people are building at once, with local players in every region (Indonesia's UcapanPacar, Western 2-luv/LoveTale). Letter4U is neither the first nor the biggest (2-luv claims 340k letters sent).

5. Why it took off

  1. Developer makes the content himself: No paid acquisition; instead, couple POV short videos act out the "moment the gift is opened." 4–May three videos total about 1.5M views (TikHub), directly driving 6000 sign-ups (5 days) to 80k sign-ups (about 4.5 months).
  2. Hits the Philippines' monthsary and long-distance relationship culture: Monthsaries are celebrated every month, high frequency; many overseas-worker families, so long-distance relationships are common. Video tags repeatedly use #monthsarygift #ldr. 85 pesos a pack, far cheaper than a physical gift.
  3. Works spread themselves: Every gift is a link, and the recipient is the next potential user; social-task credits amplify attention further.
  4. Templates keep expanding scenarios: From love letters to birthday cakes, teacher thank-yous, graduations, snow globes, galaxy locks, 3D cabins, turning a one-off Valentine's need into a year-round holiday calendar.
  5. The Play version monetizes the existing base again: October launch on the App Store, adding "partner widgets" (couple home-screen widgets) to lift retention; TikTok copy updated to "or search it in playstore."

6. Differentiation

  • Compared with Western peers (2-luv, LoveTale, letterforu): Philippine localization (Taglish/monthsary context, peso pricing, local creator persona), templates feel more like toys (3D scenes, PIN locks, galaxy locks), credits priced by content volume, not one price per letter.
  • Compared with Indonesia's UcapanPacar: the playbook is nearly identical, only the country differs. So the differentiation is essentially "region × the creator themselves," not a feature moat.
  • This differentiation is why it took off, but the decisive factors are localized content and the creator's distribution ability; the features themselves can be copied by anyone in a week or two.

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: circulating in small circles. Philippine TikTok users and the App Builders PH community know it; the developer has shared sign-up numbers but not revenue; no media or big X accounts have covered it, x-radar 0 mentions.
  • Copycats: Garden Letters built a "Letter4U.me Alternative" page to capture brand-name searches; the letterforu.com crowd (several TikTok accounts) have nearly identical names; someone else is circulating "unli credits."

8. What others can learn

  • "Developer = protagonist" POV couple short videos: no feature talk, just acting out the moment of receiving the gift.
  • Replicate "local language + local anniversary customs + small local-currency pricing" web gifts across SEA (Indonesia already has UcapanPacar; no obvious players seen in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, unverified).
  • Use social tasks that trade for free credits to cold-start attention; the work's link is itself an ad slot.
  • Validate demand with a web version first, then go to Play to convert the existing users into an app base, using home-screen widgets for daily retention.
  • "X Alternative" SEO pages that capture competitors' brand names (Garden Letters' approach).

9. Uncertain

  • The web version's real paid conversion rate and revenue (not public); how many of the 80k sign-ups ever paid.
  • Whether the Play version runs Google Ads or Meta ads (ad libraries don't track it).
  • Whether the FB accounts Sola Na / Geh Lang belong to the developer.
  • Whether the "312 reviews" on the letterforu.com homepage are real.
  • Launch dates of competitors like 2-luv.
