LexiUp: AI English Learning · DooMoon

63 followers, 7,277 installs in a single day: LexiUp is another English-learning bet from a Vietnamese AI app factory

What it is An English learning app with word flashcards, idioms, short stories, grammar quizzes, and an AI chat tutor. Free to download, sells $12.99–$31.99 in-app purchases, and shows ads.

Why it took off It isn't product word-of-mouth; it's ad budget. A Vietnamese studio, Astronex / DooMoon, runs video ads from Facebook pages with zero followers, buying cheap installs in the Philippines and Mexico, then recouping through in-app purchases on education charts in markets like the US and Italy. LexiUp is just one of five or six English apps they're running in parallel.

CHow you could follow Don't build yet another AI English app. Learn the testing method: one template, several selling points, multiple brands in parallel, and budget allocated by payback data. Apply it to a category or niche not yet crowded by ad studios (less common languages, specific exams, specific job English).

Grade C: AI English learning is already crowded with dozens of reskins. The leaders are Turkish and Vietnamese ad studios with budgets orders of magnitude higher, and the AI conversation selling point is covered by free ChatGPT voice, so following them isn't worth it. But the matrix testing playbook behind it is clear and learnable. Few people know about it yet

An AI English learning app launched on Google Play in Aug 12, reached 84k installs in under three months, and by Nov 6 was charting on free education charts in the Philippines, Mexico, the US, Canada, Italy, Spain, and Argentina at the same time. The product itself has nothing new; what's worth watching is the playbook behind it. A Vietnamese team uses the same template and the same ad copy to launch five or six brands across English learning at once, and whichever one runs gets more budget. Below: how this playbook works, where the money comes from, what you should learn from it, and why I don't recommend copying it to build yet another one.

A video with 370 views

In 2026 Aug 27, a Facebook page named "LexiUp: AI English Learning" posted a 63-second reel with this caption:

🚀 Learning English has never been this easy. Let's learn daily routine English vocabulary. Best Language Learning app, download now.

The button reads "Practice Now!" This video has 370 views to date, and the page has 63 followers in total.

A page with almost no followers posting videos with download buttons isn't built to gain followers; it was opened to run ads. Another English app from the same company, Elyra, has at least two such pages, and their opening lines are word-for-word identical: "Learning English has never been this easy."

At the time, LexiUp was getting only a few dozen to over two hundred installs per day. From Sep 20 it climbed to around 800 a day; Oct 7 single day 7,277; from Oct 12 to 20, between 2,000 and 5,800 a day (third-party estimates of daily installs). Cumulative installs reached 6 by Nov 83,917, with 7 new in the last 19,286 days (Google Play, 11-06).

What it is

The first line of the store page reads: "Make every day count: build English vocabulary with flashcards, idioms, short stories, grammar lessons, and quick quizzes." Word flashcards, idioms, short-story reading, grammar, and quizzes, with 6 idioms per topic, and badges for daily streaks.

Funny thing: the title says "AI English Learning", but the store description never mentions AI once. The AI tutor only shows up on its landing page, astronex.ai/lexiup: a character named Lexi who plays a waiter, a job interviewer, a new neighbor, and chats with you, "quietly fixes your mistakes as you go". The landing page also says "Five minutes a day is enough", and the FAQ says the four skills plus the AI tutor are "all free".

In the store, it's actually in-app purchases of $12.99 to $31.99 for one item, with ads on top. Free to download, with the paywall inside the app.

Who's behind it: a Vietnamese AI app factory

The developer name on Google Play is DooMoon, with a registered address in Hanoi. The privacy policy names DooMoon Care Joint Stock Company, with support at [email protected]. But LexiUp's landing page sits on a different company's domain, Astronex, whose website lists an address in Ho Chi Minh City, floor 9 of the Saigon Paragon building. The two companies share a landing page and a product wall, so they're most likely two shells run by the same team (inference; corporate records not verified).

Astronex's product wall lists Kova, Eruden, EngJoy, Pivo AI, LexiUp, InFlux, Lingozu, Lura AI, and Elyra. Pulling every app under the same domains and emails (Google Play, 11-06):

Eruden: AI English Learning09-2956k51k#6 (Italy)
Lingozu: Language Learning08-2153k6k#141

At least four emails starting with aso., spread across several developer accounts. On AppBrain, DooMoon alone has 9 apps and about 9M installs, active since 2023.

On English learning alone, they run Elyra, LexiUp, Lingozu, Eruden, EngJoy, and HelloBee at the same time, each with its own landing page and ad page. Elyra leads with speaking practice, LexiUp with vocabulary drills, Eruden with listening dialogues. That's not six products. It's one template testing six selling points.

Why it took off: the ad budget went its way

The install curve is a staircase, not a slope. It went from dozens a day to 800, then to 7,000, then fell back to 1,300 to 3,400 a day. Organic word of mouth doesn't produce that shape. Paid budget being adjusted does.

The ratings don't match the installs. 84k installs produced only 49 ratings, about 0.06%. Apps that grow organically usually sit at 0.5% to 2%. The distribution is split between two extremes: 1-star 16, 4-star 8, 5-star 24, with 2-star and 3-star both at 0. From Nov 3 to 4, the rating jumped from 0 to 7 in a single day, 4 stars (Google Play, 11-04). Whether that came from in-app review prompts or something else, you can't tell from the outside. The two reviews visible on the store page are one from Oct 31, "very nice teacher 👌", and one from Oct 20, "Medical laboratory technician", which 2 people marked as helpful. This looks like users from paid acquisition, not learners who searched for the app themselves.

Country mix. As of Nov 6, it was on the education free charts in seven countries: #81 in the Philippines, #112 in Mexico, #121 in the US, #122 in Canada, #137 in Italy, #163 in Spain, #181 in Argentina. The Philippines, Mexico, and Argentina have cheap installs, used to pump volume and chart rank. The US, Canada, Italy, and Spain have users who can afford $12.99 or more in purchases, used to recover the spend. Education free charts have a low bar: a couple thousand new installs a day in the US can reach the top 200, and charting also brings a bit of organic store traffic.

Channels. Facebook and Instagram video ads are confirmed. The ad page of DreamShot, a sibling in the same stable, was running 462 ads as of Nov 6, with 2,782 in its history. At that scale, this studio runs hundreds of creatives at once on Meta. Google App ads are likely too (inference; no ad records found). No trace on TikTok, X, Reddit, or in media. Online, there are only APK mirror sites and auto-generated listing pages from data platforms.

The category is growing. Over 2026 years, the whole "AI English Tutor" category has risen on Google Play. Linguza launched in May and now has 9.77M installs; TutorMe has 1.78M. A market with strong demand for English learning and cheap paid installs means low cost per install, and subscriptions can still pay it back.

Where the money comes from

In-app purchases of $12.99 to $31.99, plus ad monetization. I couldn't confirm whether it's weekly subscriptions, annual subscriptions, or one-time purchases. Neither it nor its main sibling Elyra has made a top-grossing chart, so revenue is probably modest.

The math for this business isn't in any single app but across the whole line. Among the six English apps, only Elyra needs to pay back and keep getting budget. The others are cheap tests of selling points and backup accounts: if one account gets banned or a keyword won't rank, nothing critical is lost. (Inference: Elyra has 1.77M installs and is still adding 96k a week, so its numbers probably work, but there's no revenue data.) LexiUp currently looks like the second tier on this line, and it has already been passed by its sibling Eruden, which launched a month and a half later and is at +51k in 7 days.

Who it's competing with

Almost everyone. AI English learning is one of the most crowded categories in Google Play education (Google Play, 11-06):

ProductLaunchedScaleHow it differs from LexiUp
Learna(Codeway)About 2024-0954.4M installs, +510k in 7 daysA top Turkish paid-acquisition studio, AI speaking, with budgets several orders of magnitude bigger

ChatGPT voice, Gemini LiveFrom ¥2024—A free AI conversation partner, directly covering LexiUp's "AI corrects your chat" selling point

LexiUp positions itself as "four skills, vocabulary, reading, grammar, idioms, plus an AI tutor", which leans more toward five-minute daily drills than the mainstream speaking partners. But this combination is everywhere in the store, and its volume depends not on the positioning but on how much budget the studio gives it.

Few people know LexiUp, but this category is no secret at all.

If it were you

One verdict: Don't build another AI English app to copy this. The category already has dozens of players, the top ones are Turkish and Vietnamese paid-acquisition studios with budgets orders of magnitude bigger than yours, and the AI conversation selling point is already covered for free by ChatGPT. What's worth studying in LexiUp is not the product but its method: one template, many brands, budgets split by data.

Who it's for: Small teams that already have an app template, can run Meta and Google app ads, know their CPI and subscription payback by country, and want to learn how to use a portfolio to reduce single-product risk.

Who it's not for: Indie developers hoping a single product's unique experience, store search, or community word of mouth will slowly take off. In this category, the product experience barely affects install volume. A 3.5-star, polarized rating can still reach the charts in seven countries.

How to do it:

  • Learn the method, change the category. Apply the playbook of "one template, several selling points, one brand and landing page per selling point, run for a month or two and see which pays back" to a category that dozens of players haven't crowded yet, rather than English learning.
  • If you insist on language learning, don't build English for the whole world. Go for what they don't cover: people learning Japanese, Korean, or Spanish, or English for a specific exam or job setting (nurses, seafarers, customer service). The Philippine "Medical laboratory technician" review is one such signal.
  • Don't compete on AI conversation. ChatGPT voice does it better for free. What keeps people is content sequencing, check-ins, and reminders, and LexiUp's landing page actually puts its weight there too.

How to acquire users: Follow its skeleton: give each app a dedicated Facebook page to run reels, templated copy swapped in batches; use cheap countries to drive installs and category charts, and high-value countries to recover subscription spend; the landing page says free, lowering the download barrier, and the paywall sits inside the app. Education free charts have a low bar: a couple thousand new installs a day can reach the top 200 in the US, a bit of organic traffic worth borrowing.

When to move: No rush. This category's window has mostly closed, and the method isn't time-bound. To use this playbook in a new category, the earlier you find a niche the portfolio teams haven't locked onto, the better.

What would mean you read it wrong: If LexiUp or Eruden reaches the top 50 of a major country's education top-grossing chart in the coming months, these re-skins are monetizing better than they look and the math needs redoing. Conversely, if they stop updating or get pulled within a few months, or if new entries in the AI English Tutor category can't reach tens of thousands of installs in a week, then even this playbook isn't paying back in this category.

LexiUp: AI English Learning (com.lexiup.aitutor.learnenglish): why it got traction

Channel: Google Play | Developer account: DooMoon (DooMoon Care Joint Stock Company) | Studio behind it: Astronex (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) | Research date: 2026-11-06

Bottom line

LexiUp itself isn't special. It's a reskinned test product from the Vietnamese studio Astronex / DooMoon in the "AI English learning" niche: build the template, open a new Facebook page, buy installs with Facebook video ads (and probably Google UAC) in cheap markets like the Philippines, Mexico and Argentina, plus low-bar education charts in the US and Europe, then recoup through high-priced subscriptions and ads. 84k installs were bought, not earned by product word of mouth. The studio's real breakout was Elyra (1.78M installs); LexiUp, like Eruden and Lingozu, is a second-tier run of the same playbook.

Install curve (googleplay library app_day_ext, history backfilled by AppstoreSpy):

  • Late August to mid September: about 50–260 installs a day, cold start, small-budget tests;
  • From Sep 20: about 800 a day;
  • Oct 7 single day 7,277; October 12–20 days at 2,000–5,800 a day;
  • After Oct 21: about 1,300–3,400 a day, cumulative rising from 57k to 84k.

Step-function acceleration and single-day spikes mean installs track ad spend, not organic word of mouth growing slowly.

Ratings and installs are wildly out of proportion: 84k installs produced only 49 ratings, about 0.06%, while organic apps usually sit at 0.5–2%. The distribution has only two peaks: from 11-03 to 11-04 in a single day, 4-star ratings jumped from 0 to 7, while 1-star ratings dropped from 15 to 14. That shape looks like in-app prompted reviews (or fake ratings) mixed with genuine bad reviews. We can't verify which it is.

Charts: The best showing is #73 on the Philippines Education Top Free chart (11-04). Mexico slid from #76 to #112 over 10-29; the US only reached the top 200,11-06 on 11-02, then climbed to #121; CA and IT only charted after 11-04. Paid acquisition is focused on expanding from Latin America and Southeast Asia into the US and Europe.

2. Who's behind it: Vietnam's AI App matrix

  • The developer site doomooncare.com is currently a placeholder page saying the site is being upgraded. The privacy policy names DooMoon Care Joint Stock Company as the entity, with contact email [email protected] (https://doomooncare.com/privacy-policy/). The IP range hosting the site (45.122.222.0/24) also hosts a batch of Vietnamese domains (bgp.he.net).
  • LexiUp's landing page lives at astronex.ai/lexiup/ (page published 2026-09-20). Astronex's website lists ASTRONEX JOINT STOCK COMPANY, address: floor 9, Saigon Paragon Building, Ho Chi Minh City, phone +84 (https://astronex.ai/). The product wall on the official site lists Kova, Eruden, EngJoy, Pivo AI, LexiUp, InFlux, Lingozu, Lura AI and Elyra side by side.

Also Renix, Glovia, Siven, Revion, Felion, AgeReel and others

These Apps use at least four ASO inboxes (aso.astronex@, aso.doomoon@, aso.apehero@, [email protected]), spread across several developer accounts: a classic multi-account matrix. On AppBrain, the DooMoon account alone lists 9 Apps and about 9M installs, active since 2023 (appbrain.com/dev/DooMoon, search snippet).

  • In English learning alone, they're running Elyra, LexiUp, Lingozu, Eruden and EngJoy at the same time (the recall card also mentions HelloBee and SquiLingo), each with its own landing page. LexiUp is one variant on that line.

3. Growth tactics (evidence)

  1. Facebook / Instagram video ads (confirmed): LexiUp has a dedicated Facebook page, "LexiUp: AI English Learning" (id 61593274568231), with only 63 followers. On Aug 27 it posted a 63-second reel with the caption "🚀 Learning English has never been this easy. Let's learn daily routine English vocabulary. Best Language Learning app, download now." button "Practice Now!", 370 views. A page with almost no followers posting download-call videos is a page opened specifically for ad spend. The sister studio's Elyra has at least two similar pages (61592693788251, 61592509074765) with the same line "Learning English has never been this easy", which suggests a shared creative template. Source: facebook.com page and video pages (read via r.jina.ai).
    • Our metaads library doesn't index this page (it only tracks advertisers whose ads appear on the keyword first screen), but it does index the investment page of the same matrix's DreamShot, "AI Video Maker With Music": 803 likes, 462 live ads now, 2,782 historical, running since Apr 17 (metaads library advertiser). That means this studio is running hundreds of creatives on Meta at once.
  2. Google app ads (inferred, not verified): Android utility Apps typically buy mainly through Google App Campaigns. The install curve fits this, but our googleads library has no record of DooMoon / Astronex.
  3. TikTok: nothing found. Searching TikHub for "LexiUp" only turned up a personal account with the same name, with no content for this App; the tiktokads library (which only covers ads targeting Europe) has none of these Apps either.
  4. Store search / ASO: the title packs the high-volume term "AI English Learning", and the description is stuffed with vocabulary, flashcards, idioms, grammar and other keywords. Every account's inbox starts with aso., which means a dedicated person handles ASO.
  5. Content, creators, press, communities: none. x-radar searches for LexiUp / Astronex / doomoon returned 0 posts in the last 90 days; web search only turned up auto-generated listing pages such as APKPure, Softonic, CNET Download, AppBrain and Apptopia.

Where the money comes from: subscriptions or in-app purchases at $12.99–$31.99 (Play listing), plus ad revenue (ad_supported). The website FAQ says "All four skills… plus the AI Tutor… are available for free", but in the store the actual path is high-priced IAP: the classic "free download → paywall on the onboarding / AI chat" flow. The paid acquisition split (PH, MX, AR cheap; US, CA, IT, ES used to recoup subscriptions) fits a playbook of low-cost countries for volume and rank, high-value countries for subscriptions. Real ROI can't be verified.

4. Competitors

AI English learning is one of the most crowded corners of Google Play education (googleplay library, 11-06):

LexiUp positions itself as "vocabulary + reading + grammar + idioms, four skills in one, plus an AI tutor, Lexi" (astronex.ai/lexiup). That makes it more of a "5 minutes a day of drills" tool than a pure speaking tutor, closer to a simplified Duolingo with AI chat. But this combination is common in the store, so it isn't a real differentiator.

5. Why it took off (by weight)

  1. Paid acquisition budget: the install curve climbs in steps with single-day spikes; ratings are only 0.06% of installs; there are Facebook pages opened just for ads and download-call videos. This is the direct cause of the growth.
  2. Studio templates and reuse: the same AI English App template, landing page template and ad copy produced Elyra, LexiUp, Lingozu, Eruden and EngJoy variants in one go. Elyra proved the niche pays back; the other variants test different selling points (speaking / vocabulary / listening) and different accounts, spreading the risk of bans and ASO penalties.
  3. Category timing: in 2026, "AI English Tutor" as a whole was scaling on Google Play (Linguza 172 days 9.77M, TutorMe 198 days 1.78M…). In Latin America and Southeast Asia, where English demand is strong and paid acquisition is cheap, install costs are low and subscriptions can recoup them.
  4. Low bar for education charts: the US, Canada and Italy education free charts top out at 200, so a couple thousand new installs a day is enough to get charted, and a chart spot then brings some organic store traffic.

6. Differentiation

  • On positioning: unlike mainstream "AI speaking coach" products, LexiUp bundles vocabulary flashcards, idioms (6 per theme), short-story reading, grammar and streak badges into "daily practice for four skills", with the AI tutor as an add-on.
  • This is not why it got traction. Similar pure-vocabulary veterans (Monkey Taps, FunEasyLearn) and the studio's speaking-focused Elyra are both far bigger. Its volume depends on how much budget the studio assigns it; a rating mix of 3.5 stars, only 1 one-star and 5 stars also suggests product experience isn't what's driving growth.

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Barely known so far. No X posts, Reddit threads, TikTok content, or press coverage, and no public revenue. Only APK mirror sites and auto-generated data-platform pages online.
  • Copycats: LexiUp is itself one of the copycats in this niche. The most aggressive copying comes from its own family: Eruden (on 9-29, already #6 in Italy's Education free chart) and Lingozu. The market has dozens of AI English apps on the same template. The iOS app named "LexiUp PTE / LexiUp: IELTS Prep" belongs to a different developer, Guilherme Fernandes (appstore library). Same name, not a copycat.

8. What others can borrow

  • Matrix testing: one template, multiple brands, developer accounts, and landing pages launched in parallel. Whichever variant's unit economics work gets more budget (that's how Elyra was picked).
  • Dedicated FB pages plus reel creatives: each app gets a zero-follower page used only for ads. Copy is templated and reused in bulk.
  • Country mix: the Philippines, Mexico, and Argentina for installs and charting; the US, Canada, Italy, and Spain for high-priced subscriptions. Education category charts have low entry barriers, so they pick up some organic traffic along the way.
  • Site says "free", store sells high-priced in-app purchases: lowers download friction after the ad click and puts the paywall inside the app.

9. Uncertain

  • The actual channel split (how much goes to Meta vs. Google UAC), spend, and ROI are unverified. Our ad libraries don't have a LexiUp ad page.
  • 4 star rating rose by 7 in a day. Can't tell whether it came from in-app prompts or was bought.
  • Whether the $12.99–$31.99 in-app purchases are weekly subscriptions, annual subscriptions, or one-time purchases, and how much revenue they bring in, is unknown. No Top Grossing ranking suggests revenue isn't high yet.
  • Whether DooMoon Care and Astronex are two companies or two accounts of one company: they share a landing-page domain and product wall, which suggests one team. Corporate ties are unverified.
