Two weeks of 15k installs, then 2 a day: how India's paid chat app LiveTalks got bought up
What it is A paid chat app in India: male users buy coins and pay per minute to talk by voice or video with female hosts, who take calls through a separate app. Earnings settle daily to UPI.
Why it spiked Not word of mouth, paid acquisition: a concentrated push from 10-13 took it from 191 to 15k in two weeks, and when spending stopped for two days it dropped to 2 a day. Behind it is a category already proven by big apps like FRND, where male users will pay.
CHow you can follow suit Don't copy the India playbook outright. Take the "dual-platform app + per-minute coin billing + daily host payouts" model into underserved markets where big players haven't saturated the field yet. Recruit hosts first, then buy male users, running paid acquisition in one- to two-week bursts with pauses to measure payback after each pause.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-07-24 · 11-07 installs 20,155
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
LiveTalks is an Indian app where men pay per minute for 1-on-1 voice and video chat: they buy coins and talk with female hosts. In two and a half months since launch it had 191 installs in total. In mid-October it climbed to 15k in two weeks, then dropped to nearly zero on October 27 and 28. This piece looks at what that curve means, where the money comes from, how crowded the category is, and what someone who wants to follow can actually learn.
A Reel with 3 likes
On 2026 Oct 28, the Instagram account @livetalks posted a Reel at 24 hrs, with Indian-style English captions: "Weekend boring ja raha hai? Say goodbye to loneliness with LiveTalks!" Below it were two download lines, one labeled "User App" and one "Host App (Earn Daily)", but both linked to the same URL, the host version. By 11-06 the Reel had 3 likes and no comments.
On the same day, LiveTalks got only 2 new installs a day on Google Play. A week earlier, on Oct 21, it got 4,395 a day.
Put together, the picture is clear: the app's volume didn't come from Instagram or word of mouth. Someone was buying it, and buying it on and off.
What it is
The user app is LiveTalks (com.livetalks.user), listed under Dating on Google Play with 18+ installs. There's also a women-only host app, "LiveTalk Host" (com.livetalk.host), released in Aug 13, with only 11-06 installs 171.
The website livetalkofficial.com is written in Hindi mixed with English. The first screen reads "100% Real & Verified Female Hosts," and the selling points include hidden phone numbers, instant UPI top-ups, screenshot protection, and per-second coin deduction. Further down is an earnings table for hosts:
| Calls per day | Earnings per day | Earnings per week |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 hours | ₹500–1,000 | ₹3,500–7,000 |
| 3–4 hours | ₹1,500–2,200 | ₹10,500–15,400 |
| More than 5 hours | ₹3,000–5,000+ | ₹21,000–35,000+ |
Next to it, "₹25 / Min Host call earnings," with a line underneath: "Aap bhi aaj hi Live Talks Host bankar ghar baithe daily earning shuru karein" (Become a Live Talks host today and start earning daily from home). The site also claims "10M+ calls" and "25,000+ active hosts." Only 171 people have installed the host app, so these numbers aren't credible.
The website domain was registered only on Nov 4, three weeks after the install spike. It was a storefront added after the growth began, not the entry point for acquisition.
The developer, Biswas Enterprises, is based in West Bengal and does outsourced work: its site lists CRM, e-commerce and restaurant booking systems, nothing to do with social apps. Its Instagram has shared ads for white-label source code like "build a live app like Chamet, Tango, or MICO." LiveTalks' package is 115MB, version 1.0.1. The most likely explanation (an inference) is a 1-on-1 live-streaming source-code kit that was bought or modified and re-skinned.
How the traffic built up
| Timeline | Total installs | Average per day |
|---|---|---|
| 7-24 launch → 10-12 | 191 | 2–4 |
| 10-13 → 10-19 | 2,415 | About 320 |
| 10-21 | 9,280 | 4,395 (peak) |
| 10-22 → 10-26 | 15,441 | About ¥1,100–1,260 |
| 10-27 → 10-28 | 15,444 | 2 |
| 10-29 → 10-30 | 17,585 | About 1,070 |
| 10-31 → 11-03 | 19,164 | About 395 |
| 11-05 / 11-06 | 19,737 / 20,155 | 573 / 418 |
Before mid-October the figures are third-party estimates (AppstoreSpy); after that they are Google Play installs. On India's free Dating chart it peaked at #55 (from 11-03), then fell to #77,11-06 and #111 (from 11-05). It never charted on any grossing chart.
Organic growth wouldn't produce this shape: a jump from two or three installs a day straight to several thousand, a full two-day stop, then a return to over a thousand on the third day. It looks more like ad budgets switched on, off, and on again. Apps like this in India mostly buy Play installs through Google's App ads, and installs drop to zero the day spend stops, which fits 10-27 and 28. I found no direct evidence of which channel or how much was spent (inference).
Similar apps launched in the same period show the same pattern. MeetWave (launched 8-10) went from a couple thousand to twenty-seven thousand a day from October on, with stretches of single digits in between. Talkora launched the same day with the same package-name suffix as MeetWave, likely the same source code, and its curve matches too. LiveTalks is the smallest of this group; MeetWave is 12 times its size.
On Play it has 33 ratings averaging 4.1 stars: 23 five-star, 3 one-star (11-06), and not a single visible written review. Its Instagram account reposts other apps' material (Real Frnd's Reels, "earn from home" template videos) with its own captions, mainly to recruit female hosts. No media, X, or Reddit coverage mentions it.
Where the money comes from
Men buy coins in the app, deducted per second, with in-app purchases on Play priced from ₹49 to ₹13,500. Hosts earn ₹25 per minute, and the platform keeps the gap between the coin price and the host share minus payment fees. What users actually pay per minute isn't visible from outside (unverified).
Whether this business works comes down to one calculation: how much it costs to acquire a male user, versus how many times he tops up after spend stops. LiveTalks' pattern of spending for one or two weeks, pausing two days, then spending again looks like a test of exactly that. Given its recent slide to four or five hundred installs a day and a falling chart rank, that calculation may not have worked out, or the budget may simply have run out (inference).
Who's competing
This category in India is already crowded.
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play installs, early November) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| FRND: Talk to Friends Online | 79.4M, 7 days +657k | Category leader, #9 on India's Social free chart, with funding, large-scale paid acquisition, and mature host supply |
| Bhabhi ji – Chat & Friends | 3.96M, 7 days +129k | Launched 2025-10, reached millions a year, showing the category can scale through paid acquisition |
| Realfrnd | 2.6M, 7 days +75k | Same model, mid-tier; LiveTalks copied its material |
| gugu: Live Indian Video Chat | 1.72M | Indian female-host 1-on-1 video, #21 on the Dating free chart |
| MeetWave / Talkora | 254k / 110k | White-label app launched in the same period, buying installs on the same on-off pattern |
| Livetalk(Videokar) | 142M | Near-identical name to an older random video app; matches random pairing, not paid hosts |
| Chamet / Olive / Tango | tens of millions | Global live chat companion giants |
Among the top 120 free Dating apps in India, there are twenty to thirty reskins like this. LiveTalks has nothing that sets it apart: verified real people, hidden numbers, screenshot protection, UPI top-ups, and daily host payouts are all offered by FRND and gugu. What it lacks compared with the rest is money and volume.
If it were you
Verdict: C. Copying LiveTalks isn't worth it: it's a copycat at the bottom of a crowded category. What's worth taking from it is a testing method: use white-label source code plus one- or two-week bursts of spend, switching on and off, and see how many top-ups remain after spend stops before deciding whether to put in more money.
Who it suits: Teams already running social or live-streaming products in smaller markets, with ad budgets, paid acquisition experience, and the ability to manage host supply (or connect with a host agency). For them, trying it in another country is a low-cost experiment.
Who it doesn't suit: Solo indie developers with no ad budget who don't want to touch borderline content. Volume in this category is entirely bought, hosts need recruiting and managing, and organic traffic is close to zero.
How to do it (if you do): Don't do it in India, where FRND and dozens of reskins already exist. Take the "two apps, coins per minute, daily host payouts" model to smaller markets outside India that the big players haven't filled, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, or Nigeria, with landing pages in the local language and local mobile payments. Recruit hosts first, then spend on male users: with no hosts online, the people your ads bring in click through and nobody answers, and the money is wasted.
How to acquire users: Buy Play installs for male users through Google's App ads. Recruit female hosts through short videos about "earn daily from home" and local micro-influencers, which is cheap. Don't copy LiveTalks by pasting the same download link twice.
How early you need to be: This isn't a window-type opportunity; the demand is persistent. The real time limit comes from Google Play, which keeps tightening its rules on sexually suggestive video chat and off-store top-ups. Before starting, get content moderation and in-app billing on Play sorted out.
Signs you've misjudged it: (1) A month after LiveTalks or MeetWave stops spending, daily installs are still holding at a few hundred or more, and review counts keep growing. That would mean these white-label apps retain users, unit economics are better than estimated, and C is too low. (2) This batch of white-label apps (MeetWave, Talkora, LiveTalks) gets delisted in bulk before year-end. That would mean Play has started cleaning out the category, and even "test it in another country" would be discounted. (3) A similar app in a smaller market outside India reaches a million installs within a few months without big-company backing. That would show the expansion path works and the rating should go up.

Why LiveTalks (com.livetalks.user) got traction
Store: Google Play | Developer: Biswas Enterprises (a contract software shop in West Bengal) | Launched 2026-07-24 | Research day 2026-11-06
Bottom line
It has no product differentiation. LiveTalks is a white-label reskin in a mature category in India: men buy coins and pay per minute for video/voice chats with female hosts. It sat almost untouched for 2.5 months (only 191 installs by 10-12), then jumped to 15k over two weeks, 10-13 to 10-26. The growth comes in steps, starting and stopping, and the curve is nearly identical to same-category paid-acquisition apps (MeetWave, Talkora), so the most likely cause is a concentrated paid campaign (probably Google App ads, unverified), plus reposts from its own Instagram account. Calling it "accelerating" is wrong, it's slowing down: daily installs fell from a peak of about 4,400 to 400–600, and its India Dating free-chart rank dropped from #55 to #111. The only part worth studying is the playbook (dual-platform app plus coins billed per minute), not this product itself.
1. Data: the curve has the shape of paid UA, not organic growth
Daily installs since launch come from the googleplay library app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimate) and app_day (our own daily capture):
| Period | Total installs | Daily adds |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-07-24 launch → 08-17 | 40 | About 4/day |
| 08-17 → 10-12 (about 8 weeks) | 191 | 2–4/day, almost no installs |
| 10-13 → 10-19 | 2,415 | About 318/day |
| 10-20 / 10-21 | 4,885 / 9,280 | 2,470 / 4,395 (peak) |
| 10-22 → 10-26 | 15,441 | About 1,100–1,260/day |
| 10-27 → 10-28 | 15,444 | 2/day (fully stopped) |
| 10-29 → 10-30 | 17,585 | About 1,070/day |
| 10-31 → 11-03 | 19,164 | About 395/day |
| 11-04 / 11-05 / 11-06 | 19,737 / 20,155 | 573 / 418 |
- New installs over the last 7 days: 4,711 (library
installs_gain_7d). The data card says "about 670/day and accelerating", which is wrong: the last few days were 400–600/day, an order of magnitude below the 10-21 peak. - Chart (
chart_rank): India Dating Top Free 10-29 #61 → 11-03 #55 (best) → 11-05 #77 → 11-06 #111; Singapore and Hong Kong Dating Top Free at #160–185 (these small stores' category charts are often the same aggregated chart, so low reference value). Never charted on any Top Grossing chart. - Rating count is NULL, and the library holds no reviews. The Play data safety declaration says "data not encrypted, collects financial info". In-app purchases run $0.49–$139.99 each.
- The curve turns on and off: it jumps from 2 installs/day to hundreds and thousands, stops dead for two days, then resumes. Organic growth or word of mouth doesn't look like this; it's the classic pattern of ad budget switched on and off. Compare MeetWave (
com.meetwave.random.video.call.akab.app, launched 2026-08-10): it also started at a few dozen a day, jumped to 2,000–27,000/day from 10-01, with gaps of 2–7/day for several days. Talkora (com.talkora.live.video.chat.akab.app) follows the same pattern.
2. What it is
- A user app (male) LiveTalks, paired with a separate host app, "LiveTalk Host" (
com.livetalk.host, women only, 100+ downloads on Play, last updated 11-05). - The official site livetalkofficial.com is written in Hinglish and lists host earnings by tier: ₹500–1,000,5 for 1–2 hours a day, ₹3,000–5,000+ for more than the top tier; hosts earn ₹25 per minute; payouts settle daily to UPI or bank card. Selling points: "100% real verified female hosts", "phone number not exposed", "instant UPI coin top-up", "anti-screenshot". The site claims "25,000+ active hosts, 10M+ calls", but the host app has only 100+ downloads on Play, and the user app has 20k installs. Both numbers are clearly inflated.
- The terms of service name "Live Talks Platform / Biswas Enterprises" as the operator and state coins are non-refundable. Contacts: [email protected] and WhatsApp +91 97322 48282 (a West Bengal number range). The developer email on Play is [email protected].
- Biswas Enterprise (biswasenterprise.site; Instagram @biswas_enterprises; based in Dignagar, West Bengal) is a "custom software development" outsourcing shop. Its website lists CRM, e-commerce and restaurant booking work, nothing to do with social apps. Its Instagram reposts have included promotions for white-label live-streaming source code, such as "Launch Your Own Live Streaming App Today | Like Chamet, Tango & MICO!" (per Jina search snippets). So LiveTalks is most likely a bought or modified 1v1 live-streaming codebase in a different skin (APK 115MB, version 1.0.1, per apkpure), not built from scratch.
- The official domain 2026-11-04 was only just registered (Verisign RDAP), three weeks after the install surge. The site was not a source of new users; it was a facade put up after the surge.
3. Competitors: this category is crowded in India
| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 11-03~11-06) | How it differs from LiveTalks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FRND: Talk to Friends Online | Android(Social) | 2019-04 | 79.4M installs, +657k in the last ~7 days, #9 on India Social free chart | Category leader with funding, large paid acquisition and a mature host supply; LiveTalks is a mini copy of the same model |
| Realfrnd: Chat, Call Friends | Android(Social) | — | 2.6M, +7k in the last 75 days | Mid-tier of the same model; @livetalks24hrs reposted its Reel footage |
| Bhabhi ji – Chat & Friends | Android(Entertainment) | 2025-10-31 | 3.96M, +7k in the last 129 days | Reached millions in a year, showing the category scales with paid UA; LiveTalks is just small |
| gugu: Live Indian Video Chat | Android(Dating) | 2024-04 | 1.72M, #21 on India Dating free chart | Indian female-host 1v1 video, already established |
| Bhabhi Call: Live Talk Video | Android(Dating) | 2021-11 | 1.7M | "Live Talk" is also in the name: undifferentiated |
| MeetWave - Live Video Call | Android(Dating) | 2026-08-10 | 254k, +7k in the last 85 days | Launched around the same time, with similar on-off paid UA; its volume is 12× LiveTalks' |
| Talkora - Live Video Chat | Android(Dating) | 2026-08-10 | 110k, +7k in the last 36 days | Same package suffix as MeetWave (.akab.app), suggesting the same codebase or the same shop |
| Livetalk - Live Video Chat(Videokar) | Android(Communication) | 2017-04 | 142M | An old random video app with nearly the same name; LiveTalks may be picking up traffic from the "livetalk" search term (unverified) |
| Chamet / Olive / Hiya / Tango, etc. | Android/iOS | 2019–2020 | tens of millions | Global live-chat giants; LiveTalks only does local India, in Hinglish |
| Other reskins (Zensi, Cam Talk, Zegvi, Ladki Se Baat Karne… etc.) | Android(Dating) | 2025–2026 | 70k–400k | Twenty to thirty similar apps sit in the top 120 of the India Dating free chart |
Verdict: too many competitors. LiveTalks is at the bottom of this category in scale, and twenty to thirty reskins of the same type sit in the top 120 of the India Dating free chart.
4. Growth levers: the evidence
- Paid acquisition (very likely, but no direct evidence): the install curve has the step-and-stop shape described above, identical to same-category paid-UA apps. Our Meta ad library (metaads) and Google ad library (googleads) do not track this app; not finding it there doesn't mean it wasn't advertised. Apps like this in India mainly use Google App Campaigns to buy Play installs, and when spend stops, installs drop to zero the same day, which matches 10-27/28. Where the money comes from: men buy coins per minute (top tier $139.99), and after the platform's cut hosts are paid about ₹25 per minute. The business earns the spread between coin prices, host payouts and payment-channel fees.
- Instagram self-run account reposts (confirmed to exist, effect unknown): @livetalks24hrs posted captions like "Weekend boring ja raha hai? Say goodbye to loneliness with LiveTalks! … verified hosts via 1-on-1 private audio…", with links to both the user app and the host app ("Host App (Earn Daily): …com.livetalk.host"). From search snippets, the account reposted other companies' content (Real Frnd Reels, Flinzo, Jitsi tutorials, a "make a Chamet-style live app" ad) with LiveTalks captions and tags like #livetalk #workfromhome. This is a low-cost content matrix, mainly to recruit female hosts ("earn from home") and secondarily to attract male users.
- The "Get paid just to talk" Reels cited in the recall are someone else's: the two posts (2026-04-06 @gurneetsaggu_, 2026-04-20 @_bewithbarnali_) promote the competitor "Talk to Friend" and predate LiveTalks' launch, so they are not evidence for LiveTalks. They do show that the category commonly recruits hosts through small creators and UGC accounts.
- Store search / similar name: "live talk" and "video call" are high-frequency search terms in India, and an old app with the same name has around 100M installs. LiveTalks may get some organic search traffic, but with 0 rating and 0 reviews, organic traffic is at most a small fraction (unverified).
- Media, X, Reddit, HN: none (x-radar: 0 posts in the last 60 days; web search found only Play, apkpure and appbrain listings).
5. Why it took off
- The category is already proven: India has a large number of men willing to pay to chat with real women. FRND (79M installs) and Bhabhi ji (4M in a year) show the demand already exists, so no market education is needed.
- The direct cause of the traction was the concentrated spend that started 10-13. Nobody installed it for 2.5 months, which shows the product has no organic acquisition ability.
- On the supply side it attracts female hosts with "earn daily from home"; on the user side it attracts men with "verified real, private, UPI top-up". Running separate apps for each side with daily UPI settlement is the standard setup for this category in India, not LiveTalks' invention.
6. Differentiation
Almost nothing. The official site's selling points (verified hosts, hidden numbers, anti-screenshot, UPI top-up, daily payouts) also appear in FRND, gugu and Bhabhi ji. Its only difference from the others is smaller scale and lower cost: a small shop plus white-label code, with a short paid push to test whether it pays back. It got traction not because of differentiation, but because the category monetizes and it spent money on ads.
7. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: still barely known. No media coverage, nobody mentions it on X, no public revenue, and no reviews.
- Copycats: no one is really copying it, since it is itself a copycat. Over the same period, a dozen-plus reskins like MeetWave, Talkora and Zegvi were on the same charts.
8. What others can borrow
- The model of "two apps + coins billed per minute + daily host payouts" can be transplanted directly to other emerging markets (Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria). Using "earn from home" content to recruit hosts keeps costs very low.
- Test unit economics with white-label 1v1 live-streaming source code and a short paid push. LiveTalks and MeetWave both spend for one or two weeks, pause for a day or two to check payback, then decide whether to add more. That rhythm is worth copying.
- Risk to watch: Play is cracking down hard on "companion / sexually suggestive video chat" apps, and the site's UPI top-ups may bypass Play billing, which breaks policy. High takedown risk.
9. Uncertain
- No direct evidence of paid acquisition or how much was spent (the ad libraries don't track this app).
- Actual coin revenue and real host counts are unknown; the site's 25,000 hosts and 10M calls aren't credible.
- The "LiveTalk Host" host app has only 100+ downloads. Hosts may be agency accounts mass-created, or users may just switch roles inside the same app. Unverified.
- Whether users stay after paid acquisition stops: no ratings, no reviews, so retention can't be seen.
