# Borrowing the name of a 8.26M-install app: how another "phone cleaner" app hit #2 on the Canada Tools chart

**What it is** A free, ad-heavy Android phone cleaner (junk cleaning, background app closing, photo compression, notification clearing), a reskin from an anonymous team.

**Why it took off** A new developer account from a shell company, reusing the name of an older app that had already worked. Paid installs pushed it onto the Canada tools chart, where the bar is low, and full-screen ads bid across 8 ad networks paid it back.

**D** **How you could follow** Not recommended. 93 other cleaner apps were charging up the same week. If you really want to enter cleaning, build a legitimate subscription product (similar-photo dedup, video compression, cloud photo storage management). Your competitor there is a real company like Codeway.

Grade D: the model probably makes money, but it's already industrialized. In the same week, 93 cleaner apps each added 100K+ installs, and the game is ad cost and account lifespan. It also rides a borrowed name and misdeclared data, so takedown risk is high, and followers gain nothing that compounds. Few people know about it

A cleaner app on Google Play called "Phone Clean Fix" launched in Oct 22 and reached #2 on the Canada Tools free chart within two weeks, charting in 23 countries. Its features are no different from hundreds of others, and the name isn't its own: an app launched in 2025 with 8.26M installs carries the same name. Below: how it got going, where the money comes from, and why this business isn't worth following.

### One 285-person "helpful" five-star review

On Oct 30, 2026, an account named Kora Jane Elias gave it five stars with one line: "Too good always the Best ❤️❤️❤️". By Nov 6, that review had 285 "helpful" votes and sat at the top of the store page's reviews. Second was "Very efficient and service was GREAT." from Nov 2, with 117 "helpful" votes.

It had been live barely a week. A new app's one-line praise collecting hundreds of "helpful" votes is unusual and looks more like vote manipulation to keep the review pinned on top (**inference, unverified** ).

Scroll further down the reviews and another tone shows up. On Nov 2, a Canadian user gave three stars: "adds a fter adds could not use phone", ads one after another until the phone was unusable. Other one-star reviews said "it messes up my phone" and "another scam".

### What it is

A free Android cleaner with ads and no in-app purchases. The store page lists four functions: scan and clean junk files, see which apps are running in the background and close them, compress photos to save space, and clear old notifications. The version number has stayed 1.0.0 since launch.

Android's built-in storage management and Google's own Files app do all of this without ads. Much of the demand for third-party cleaners comes from ad lines like "your phone storage is almost full" scaring people into installing.

### Numbers: 6 days, 278K installs

| Date | Total installs | Score | Charted on lists / best rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11-01 | 1 (page not yet refreshed) | 90 | 25 / 14 |
| 11-02 | 81,793 | 253 | 29 / 7 |
| 11-03 | 158,611 | 372 | 33 / 5 |
| 11-05 | 158,611 | 632 | 38 / 3 |
| 11-06 | 277,841 | 845 | 41 / 2 |

(Google Play public data, 11-01 to 11-06. Install counts jump in steps because the store page updates only every few days. Rating counts climb steadily by 120–210 a day, so people are arriving every day.)

- Nov 6: #2 on the Canada Tools free chart, #13 on the overall app chart; #4 on the Australia Tools chart, #5 in Vietnam, #7 in Japan and Thailand, #8 in the US, France, and Taiwan.

- Canada is the main battleground. Its overall Canada ranking climbed one step a day: 126, 75, 51, 31, 19, 13. Nearly all of the first few dozen reviews came from Canada.

- No in-app purchases, so the money has to come from ads.

### Where users come from: paid acquisition plus a ready-made name

**Paid acquisition.** The privacy analysis site Exodus scanned its 1.0.0 version on Nov 2 and found 15 tracking SDKs: AppsFlyer (which attributes paid installs to their source channel), AppLovin MAX (ad mediation), plus AdMob, Pangle, Mintegral, Unity Ads, InMobi, Fyber, Amazon, and Meta Audience Network. It charted in 23 countries within 9 days of launch, adding tens of thousands of installs a day, yet no videos or posts about it turned up online: none on TikTok, 0 posts on X in nearly 30 days, and one tutorial on YouTube with 40 views. The volume must be bought (**inference, high confidence** ). Which platforms it spent on isn't visible in public ad libraries.

**Borrowing the name.** The original Phone Clean Fix (developer Mr.Appp., launched February 86,2025) has 8.26M installs and 54K ratings, and its description is nearly identical. The phrase "phone clean fix app" shows up in Instagram's trending searches. People searching that name, or already trained by the old app's ads, may install the new one. Whether this is the same group on a new account or a new account simply riding the name is **unverified** .

**Scary ad creatives.** The most common ads in this category are pop-ups saying "your phone has a virus" or "storage is almost full". The old Phone Clean Fix shows up on the Q&A site JustAnswer with a user asking, "the pop-up says my phone has lots of viruses". One review under the new app reads, with no context: "I was not sure adult sites." (10-31, Canada).

**Picking a low-bar chart.** The top Canada tools apps include things like BC Hydro (a provincial power utility app) and Google Authenticator. A modest volume of installs is enough to reach the top 3, and charting then adds a bit of free organic traffic.

### Where the money comes from

Buy an install, then earn it back through ads:

1. It requests the "manage all files", "view app usage", "persistent foreground service", "post notifications", and "delete apps" permissions (Exodus, 11-02). With those it can stay alive in the background, notify you periodically to pull you back, and show a full-screen ad every time you tap "clean".

2. AppLovin MAX runs an auction across 8 ad networks, and each impression sells at the highest bid. Targeting Canada, the US, Australia, and Japan makes sense because an ad impression is worth more there, which is what covers the cost of paid acquisition.

3. The Play store's data-safety section says "no data collected or shared", yet the app ships AppsFlyer and Facebook SDKs. A mismatch like that is grounds for takedown.

Whether the math works from outside is invisible (**estimate** , no public revenue). But dozens of anonymous teams are doing the same thing at once, which suggests it probably pays.

### Who runs it: a shell company that looks AI-generated

The developer is Luvasa Distro. The website listed on the store page, luvasatro.com, currently shows 403. Searching the name leads to luvasadistro.hair: it claims to be "LUVASA DISTRIBUTION, LLC", a "loading dock and wholesale distribution center" in Orem, Utah, while the same page says it does "computer systems integration design and technical services". The whole site looks AI-generated. The developer email is a random gmail address of letters and digits, and the privacy policy is hosted on sites.google.com.

The same account also has a cleaner called ByteClean with only 100 thousand downloads. Whichever one catches on gets promoted, and if one is banned they switch to another (**inference** ). This is a common anonymous shell-app playbook: wrap a company identity around it, obtain an organization developer account on Google Play, and you can ship new apps at will without going through closed testing.

### Competition: too many to count

Since June 2025, roughly 270 new tool apps with clean or junk in the name have launched on Google Play, averaging 10 to 34 new ones a month. Cleaner apps that gained more than 100K installs in the past 7 days number 93, of which 68 use a gmail developer address and 47 host their privacy policy on sites.google.com (Google Play public data, 11-06).

| Competitors | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Phone Clean Fix(Mr.Appp.86) | 8.26M installs, 7 days +about 40K | The old app with the same name, now barely running |
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner(Codeway) | 36.5M, 7 days +960k | A legitimate company, subscription-based, #1 on the multi-country tools Top Grossing chart |
| CleanMas / CleanLoom(BetterFly Games) | 13.7M / 11.1M | An older, bigger ad-monetized cleaner |
| BlazeClean / AuraClean(Alsaeed) | 10.6M / 9.39M | One account holding several cleaner apps |
| Smart Clean Pro / Hyper Cleaner(JTR Labs) | 1.15M / 980K, 7 days +670K / +810K | Same tactics, same week, same Canada tools chart, and even larger volume |
| Clean Pro - AI Cleaner(BleymarStudio) | 730k, +650k in 7 days | Same batch, #3 on the Canada Tools chart |
| Built-in storage managers / Google Files | Billions of preinstalls | Free, no ads |

It's not the biggest in this batch, just the newest.

### How many people know about it

Almost nobody knows this one: no media coverage, no discussion on X or TikTok, and no public revenue. But "arbitrage via paid installs of cleaner apps" is a well-worn path. BleepingComputer reported as early as 2022 that Facebook ads were pushing cleaner adware with 7M installs cumulatively, and security firms have repeatedly exposed ad fraud from these apps. Few people know about it, yet many are doing it.

### If it were you

**D: look, but don't follow.** The business is real and probably profitable, but it's already an industrialized track. In the same week, 93 cleaner apps each added 100K+ installs. The competition is who buys installs more cheaply and whose accounts last longer, not who builds the better product. It only took off because of a new account, a borrowed name, and an ad budget.

**Who it suits** : studios already running Android tool shells, holding several organization developer accounts, and able to calculate CPI and ad eCPM for each country. For you, the only new information here: the Canada tools chart has a low bar, and tens of thousands of installs a day is enough to reach the top 3.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie developers who want their own product and to build users slowly. Those users aren't loyal (they were scared into installing), the built-in system features can replace the app, and nothing compounds.

**How to do it** : if you really want to build, don't make "another cleaner app". The direction worth looking at is making cleaning a legitimate product that sells subscriptions, like Codeway's Cleanup (similar-photo dedup, large video compression, iCloud / Google Photos storage management). Some people are making money this way, but the competitors are real companies, and they compete on store-page conversion and subscription retention, not the tactics in this piece.

**How to acquire users** : in this category the only path is paid acquisition: in-app ad networks (AppLovin, Mintegral, Unity) plus Meta. Start with countries like Canada and Australia that have high prices but low chart barriers, and pick up some organic traffic once you chart.

**Risks** : borrowing another app's name runs into Google Play's impersonation / misleading-content policies; misdeclared data-safety sections; and opening accounts under a manufactured company identity. If any one of these gets flagged, every app under the account comes down together.

**What would show I got it wrong** : ① it's still in the top 10 of the Canada tools chart before late December and hasn't been taken down, which would mean this path is less risky than it looks; ② Google starts mass-removing these anonymous cleaner apps, in which case even "look" isn't worth it; ③ a cleaner app reaches the Top Grossing chart on real features (not scary ads). That's the kind worth following.

Where users come from

- Inferred **Paid UA (in-app ad networks / programmatic)** : Exodus(11-02) finds the AppsFlyer attribution SDK plus AppLovin MAX, AdMob, Pangle, Mintegral, Unity, InMobi, Fyber, Amazon and Meta AN. Charted in 9 countries within 23 days of launch, tens of thousands of installs a day, with no organic content

- **Confirmed** **Name borrowing (reusing an older app's name)** : the older app com.phone.clean.fixfix has the same name and description, with 8.26M installs. 'phone clean fix app' is a trending Instagram search

- Inferred **Scare / pop-up ad creatives** : a review says 'I was not sure adult sites.' The older app has JustAnswer questions about 'pop-ups saying my phone has a virus'

- Inferred **Review manipulation** : 5 stars at 67%. One short review has 280 'helpful' votes and another has 113, though the app is only 10 days old. At 11-01 the install count showed 1 and already had 90 ratings

- Inferred **Meta / Google / TikTok (EU) ad libraries** : none of the three libraries returns a hit by package, developer or domain. They only track a watchlist, so a miss doesn't mean no spend

## Why Phone Clean Fix (com.luvasadistro.phoneclean.storage) is charting

> Channel: Google Play / Tools | Developer: Luvasa Distro | Store launch 2026-10-22, version 1.0.0 (10-27 updates) | Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It isn't the product doing the work. This is a **wrapped "phone cleaner" ad-monetization app** : it launched under a bought or registered US shell-company developer account, and **it reuses the name of an existing app with 8.26M installs, "Phone Clean Fix"** (com.phone.clean.fixfix, developer Mr.Appp.86). It ships AppsFlyer attribution and AppLovin MAX with 8 more ad networks, buys **paid installs** to push itself up the charts (the Tools charts in countries like CA), then earns the money back through interstitial and full-screen ads. The same week, a batch of anonymous cleaner apps running the same playbook was pushing the Tools free chart. This one is just the newest in that batch.

### 1. Data: the shape of the launch

Data source: googleplay database `app_day` / `chart_rank`, 2026-10-31 to 11-06.

| Date | Cumulative global installs | Score | Charted count / best rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-31 | 0 (detail page not yet updated) | – | 6 charts / 76 |
| 11-01 | 1 | 90 | 25 / 14 |
| 11-02 | 81,793 | 253 | 29 / 7 |
| 11-03 | 158,611 | 372 | 33 / 5 |
| 11-04 | 158,611 | 498 | 37 / 3 |
| 11-05 | 158,611 | 632 | 38 / 3 |
| 11-06 | 277,841 | 845 | 41 / 2 |

- Roughly 278k installs over 6 days, about 46k a day on average. Install counts move in steps because Play's maxInstalls only refreshes every few days. Ratings grow steadily by 120–210 a day, showing installs keep coming in and weren't a one-off burst.

- On 11-06: #2 on the CA Tools free chart and #13 on the CA overall chart, #23 on the JP overall chart. Tools chart #8 in the US, #8 in FR and TW, #4 in AU, #5 in VN. Charted in 23 countries in total.

- Canada is the main battleground: overall chart ranks 126 → 75 → 51 → 31 → 19 → 13, improving every day. The first few dozen reviews almost all come from the ca store (review table).

- **No IAP** (offers_iap=False), **ad-supported** (ad_supported=True). Revenue can only come from ads.

### 2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

"Phone cleaner" is one of the most crowded categories on Google Play. In the database, 2025-06 Tools apps launched since then with clean/junk in the name, roughly 270 of them, with 10–34 new ones a month. 2026-07 and 09 were the two peaks (33 and 34 apps). In the last 7 days, 100 cleaner apps gained more than 93k installs: 68 used gmail as the developer email, and 47 host their privacy policy on sites.google.com (googleplay database `app`, 11-06). That's the hallmark of an "anonymous cleaner app factory".

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phone Clean Fix(com.phone.clean.fixfix,Mr.Appp.86) | Android | 2025-02-27 | 8.26M installs, 54k ratings. Now only Italy's Tools chart matters: day 166,7 of about 40k new installs | **Same-name older app** , with nearly identical description ("simple and efficient mobile phone cleaning tool"). The new app took its name directly |
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner(Codeway) | Android / iOS | 2025-11-21 | 36.5M installs, +7k in 960 days, Top Grossing Tools #1 across several countries | A legit company running subscriptions and ranking on Top Grossing. This new app is free and lives only on ads |
| Hyper Cleaner / Smart Clean Pro(JTR Labs) | Android | 2026-10-09 / 09-18 | 980k / 1.15M installs, +7k / +810k in 670 days; CA Tools #4 / #16 | Same playbook: gmail accounts, sites.google privacy pages, pushing the CA chart. Install cadence is nearly identical too |
| Clean Pro - AI Cleaner(BleymarStudio) | Android | 2026-09-24 | 730k installs, +7k in 650 days; CA Tools #3 | Also pushing the CA Tools chart, also without IAP |
| CleanMas / CleanLoom(BetterFly Games) | Android | 2025-11 / 12 | 13.7M / 11.1M installs | An earlier, bigger ad-monetized cleaner in the same category |
| BlazeClean / AuraClean(Alsaeed) | Android | 2026-02 / 2025-09 | 10.6M / 9.39M installs | A matrix of several cleaner apps under one developer account |
| Clean Fix Plus(AppDustBuster) | Android | 2025-06-02 | 9.37M installs | Its name sits right next to "Clean Fix" |
| Android's built-in storage manager and Google Files' cleanup feature | Big-company features | Already around | Preinstalled on billions of devices | Free, no ads. Demand for third-party cleaner apps is mostly manufactured by ads |

**Bottom line** : the competition is overwhelming. Functionally it's no different from the others. It's just one more app in the current paid-install push.

### 3. Growth tactics: where users come from

| Channel | Evidence | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Paid UA (in-app ad networks / programmatic) | Exodus static analysis (11-02, v1.0.0) finds 15 trackers: **AppsFlyer** (UA attribution), **AppLovin MAX** (mediation), AdMob, Pangle, Mintegral, Unity Ads, InMobi, Fyber, Amazon, and Meta Audience Network. It charted in 23 countries within 9 days of launch, with tens of thousands of installs a day and 0 content or 0 media. Those installs had to be bought | Highly likely (inferred) |
| Name borrowing: reusing "Phone Clean Fix" | The original com.phone.clean.fixfix has 8.26M installs and 54k ratings, with the same name and description. "phone clean fix app" is a trending term in Instagram search. Users searching that name, and users primed by the older app's ads, may land on the new one | Same name confirmed; how much traffic it brings is unverified |
| Scare / pop-up ad creatives | One review reads "I was not sure adult sites." (10-31, ca). On JustAnswer, users ask about the older app's "pop-up saying my phone has lots of viruses" (the title is visible, the body is blocked by Cloudflare). "Your phone is infected / storage is full" pop-ups or native ads are standard for this category | Moderate confidence |
| Reviews and rating manipulation | 5 stars at 67% (563/845). Written reviews are very short ("good", "excellent"). One "Too good always the Best ❤️❤️❤️" has 280 'helpful' votes and another, "Very efficient and service was GREAT.", has 113. That's clearly high for an app 10 days old and suggests helpful votes are being bought to push favorable reviews to the top. At 11-01 the detail page still showed 1 installs while already having 90 ratings | Suspected, unverified |
| Meta / Google / TikTok (Europe) ad libraries | The metaads, googleads and tiktokads libraries return nothing by package, developer name or domain. But those three only track a watchlist, so a miss doesn't mean no spend | Nothing found |
| Creators and influencers (TikTok / X / YouTube) | A TikHub search for "phone clean fix" returns nothing. x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 30 days. One YouTube "how to use" video from 4 days ago has 40 views | Essentially none |

#### Where the money comes from

Paid acquisition plus ad monetization. The category playbook:

1. It requests MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS, foreground services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE), POST_NOTIFICATIONS and REQUEST_DELETE_PACKAGES (Exodus results). With these it can run in the background, send notifications to pull users back, and fire an interstitial after every "cleanup".

2. AppLovin MAX runs 8 networks in an auction to sell each impression at the highest price. Targeting high-eCPM countries like CA, US, AU and JP is how ad revenue covers the cost of installs.

3. User reviews confirm the ads are dense: "adds a fter adds could not use phone" (11-02), "it messes up my phone", "another scam".

4. Data safety says "no data collected, no data shared," but the app ships with AppsFlyer and Facebook SDKs. The declaration and the actual code clearly don't match. That's a common risk for apps like this, and a sign it probably won't last long.

#### Developer identity

- The developer website on Play is luvasatro.com, which returns 403. Searching "Luvasa Distro" turns up luvasadistro.hair: it calls itself "LUVASA DISTRIBUTION, LLC," says it's a "loading dock and wholesale distribution center" in Orem, Utah, but the copy describes it as a "computer integrated systems design and technical services business." The whole site looks AI-generated, a textbook **empty shell company built to pass Play's organization developer verification** .

- The developer email is vermaasmukilaniw070@gmail.com (a random string), and the privacy policy is hosted at sites.google.com/view/luvasadistro.

- The same developer account also publishes ByteClean (com.luvasadistro.byteclean.trash.pthoto.video, 100+ downloads per AppBrain), another cleaner app. Appfigures also shows it charting in the Tools category in Namibia. That points to a sock-puppet account used to rotate products.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **Paid acquisition** : the SDK stack (attribution plus 9 ad networks), 9 days charting in 23 countries at once, and no organic content all point to paid user acquisition.

2. **The ad-arbitrage model for the "cleaner" category works** : Android users are easy to hook with "storage full / phone slow" anxiety, ad creatives get high CTR, and once installed the app fires interstitials often enough that ad revenue per user covers the CPI. That's why dozens of anonymous teams are running it at the same time (gmail developer accounts make up 73% of them).

3. **Borrowing an old name** : "Phone Clean Fix" was already proven by an app with 8.26M installs. Creatives, store copy and search terms are ready to reuse, so a new account skips most of the ASO cold start.

4. **Review management** : keeping the share of 5-star reviews high, plus reviews gaming the "helpful" votes, so store-page conversion holds up during the paid-acquisition phase.

5. **Picking the right country chart** : the Tools chart in Canada has a low bar (it's competing with BC Hydro and Google Authenticator), so modest volume is enough to reach the top 3, and that brings in some organic traffic from the chart placement.

### 5. Differentiation

**No product-level differentiation.** The features (junk cleaning, background process killing, photo compression, notification cleanup) match hundreds of similar apps, and its description is nearly identical to the older app com.phone.clean.fixfix. What's actually different is the operations layer: a new developer account, piggybacking on a known name, paid acquisition budget, and the mix of countries it runs in. It works because of the "new account + paid acquisition + ad monetization" playbook, not because it's different from anyone else.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- **Almost nobody knows about it** : no press coverage, 0 posts on X, nothing on TikTok, no public revenue. But "paid-acquisition arbitrage on cleaner apps" is a **public playbook that many teams have already run thoroughly** . BleepingComputer reported 2022 years ago on Facebook ads pushing cleaner adware, and IAS and Check Point have repeatedly disclosed ad fraud involving cleaner apps.

- **Copycats** : it is a copycat itself (it borrowed the name of the old "Phone Clean Fix"). In the same week, the same playbook was pushing the CA Tools chart with JTR Labs (Hyper Cleaner, Smart Clean Pro), BleymarStudio (Clean Pro), Music Media Studio (Daily Cleaner), CardAccount (Junk Cleaner) and others.

### 7. What to borrow

- The unit economics of Android tools "paid acquisition + ad-mediation monetization": target high-eCPM countries (CA / US / AU / JP) and run MAX mediation across 8+ networks.

- Small-country category charts have low bars and can serve as a launch base (the Tools chart in Canada).

- A proven product name and description can be reused (name piggybacking), which skips most of the ASO cold start. But this carries policy risk: Play's impersonation/deception policy, and a misleading Data safety declaration.

- Sock-puppet developer accounts plus rotating products, to spread out ban risk.

### 8. Still unclear

- Which channels the money goes to (AppLovin, Mintegral, Unity programmatic? Or Meta?). Our ad libraries don't index it, so we can't prove this directly.

- Whether the team behind it is the same as the older app com.phone.clean.fixfix (one person changing accounts), or a third party piggybacking on the name. We did not compare icons and screenshots one by one.

- Whether it uses lockscreen ads or fake virus alerts, or other policy-violating tactics. Only reviews hint that "there are a lot of ads."

- How long it lasts: the inaccurate Data safety declaration plus "scam" reviews make removal from Play a real risk. Whether the unit economics are actually positive is unverified.
