A delisted name, eight packages fighting for it: the Nigerian football fan traffic left behind by "Futgenix"
What it is A pirated free football live-streaming app. It was originally a cricket package, renamed itself to borrow the name and copy of the recently delisted established app "Futgenix".
Why it took off The original Futgenix September was delisted, and 80 million long-time users were still searching for the name on Play. The rename caught that search traffic, and the low bar of Nigeria's sports chart let it pick up some organic traffic.
CHow you could follow it Don't copy it; learn its method for picking topics: watch recently delisted apps with hundreds of thousands of installs, read the old reviews to figure out what users want, build a non-infringing real alternative, and use "alternative"-style keywords to catch the gap left in store search, while avoiding a category that depends on piracy.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-18 · 11-07 installs 9,389
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
In Sep 2026 13, the free football streaming app "Futgenix", which had been on Google Play for 5 years with 860k installs and 4.6 stars, was delisted. Seven weeks later, a small package that had been a cricket streaming app renamed itself Futgenix, copied the original listing word for word, and went from 971 to 9,389 installs in a little over a week. It isn't a good product and isn't worth copying. It's worth looking at because it demonstrates clearly a signal you can learn from: after a big app disappears, its name keeps getting searched for a long time.
A five-star from a Malawian fan, and a 404
The original Futgenix (com.futgenix.soccer.scores) went up in 2020 September. The developer was in Pakistan, and users were mostly in East and Southern Africa. Reviews still visible on AppBrain read: "the best when it comes to football live-streaming" and "best app to live stream football matches 🇲🇼". It was still being updated in Aug 16, and was delisted from Play in Sep 13 (recorded by AppBrain and appfigures). When 11-06 opened its store page, it showed 404, and the developer's profile had no apps left.
80 million people installed it. They changed phones, the system cleaned up the app, a friend asked "what do you use to watch football?", and these people go to Play and search for "Futgenix". What comes up is no longer the original.
What it is
"Futgenix: Football Live TV", package com.mcl.livecrickettv.score, developer Wolf Sports, listed on 2026-08-18. The package name says livecrickettv, which means it was originally a cricket live-streaming package that was later switched to football and given the Futgenix name (10-22 there was a version update; the rename likely happened around then, inferred).
The store description copies the original's "FutGenix – Soccer Live Scores Updates" word for word, so it looks like a scores app. But the disclaimer at the very bottom wasn't cleaned up: "Live Football TV HD is not affiliated with any official broadcaster… All content is sourced from publicly available channels". It was adapted from a template called "Live Football TV HD", and what it actually sells is free live streaming (Play store page, 11-06).
Numbers (Google Play installs, collected the next day):
| Date | Total installs | Nigeria Sports Free chart |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 971 | 176 |
| 10-31 | 6,149 | 184 |
| 11-03 | 7,441 | 127 |
| 11-05 | 9,145 | 134 |
| 11-06 | 9,389 | 139 |
No ratings, no reviews, no in-app purchases. It only charted once: the Nigeria Sports Free chart.
Why now
Just one thing: the name was freed up. The original was delisted, old users were searching, and this package renamed itself to catch them. It only charted in Nigeria, which is exactly where the original's African users were, showing the traffic was driven by the name. The jumps on 10-31, 11-03 and 11-05 match league weekends and Champions League nights, but the data was collected a day later, so single-day figures aren't reliable.
The bar on Nigeria's Sports Free chart is also low: a few thousand installs can put an app up or down around the 130 mark, plus some organic chart traffic. Searching "futgenix" on TikTok only turns up a video for FUTGenie, an EA FC cheat tool, and X had no mentions in 90 days; I found no sign of paid acquisition.
Behind it is one group, seven packages
This package isn't one person's side project. The contact email in its disclaimer, [email protected], is also the support email for two other developer accounts, "Live Sports Plus HD"; the developer websites for all seven packages point to two blogspot sites. It's reasonable to conclude that the same group is using three accounts, Wolf Sports, Sports-Streamx and CricPrime, to spread seven packages with roughly 260k installs in total (Google Play, 11-06):
| Package | Installs | Which market they target |
|---|---|---|
| Live Sports Plus HD(Sports-Streamx) | 94k | 3,687 ratings, 3.9 stars |
| Live Cricket TV HD (package name includes futgenix) | 68k | Cricket |
| Live Football TV HD Streaming(Wolf Sports) | 37k | Ranked #4–7 on Italy's sports chart, plus the UK and UAE |
| The other three | 12k–25k | Two that charted in Italy's sports category |
| Futgenix (the one in this article) | 9k | Nigeria |
Package name and title swap freely: the package named livecrickettv carries football names, and the one named futgenix carries cricket names. Whichever sport is hot and whichever brand term people search gets used. Take one down, swap in another.
There is real streaming inside. Italian-language reviews on a sister package say things like "tried many free apps, only this one works, no lag" and "the only place to watch the Champions League tonight," but also "doesn't work" and "too many ads" (10-10 to 10-29). The listing says "no ads," but apps like this usually earn from app-open and interstitial ads, and how much this group actually makes can't be seen from outside.
Who else is grabbing the name
It is itself a copycat. At least 8 Play packages use the name "Futgenix":
- BLADE AND LIGHT MEDIA's "Futgenix: Football Live TV," listed 2026-02, Play page 100k+. AppGoblin estimates about 25k monthly active users and under $10k a month in ad revenue. This is the revenue ceiling for packages of this kind that can be seen (estimate).
- Dice Match's "Futgenix," about 50k installs, also on the Nigeria sports chart, ranked 108, higher than Wolf Sports.
- Score-Hub's package with the same name (36k) was taken down in July, and another with 10k installs was taken down in June. There are four or five more with tens of thousands to around ten thousand installs.
Beyond that is the whole "free football streaming" category. 178 packages in Play's sports category have titles like football tv / live football. 47 of them were listed after August, adding 7M installs in 1.79 days combined. The legitimate alternatives are FotMob, LiveScore, and Sofascore, with tens of millions of installs, and none of them carry pirated streams. APKPure's recommended alternatives to the original Futgenix are exactly these three.
What to learn, and what not to
What not to copy is the method itself: pirated streams plus impersonating someone else's brand is a minefield on both copyright and Play policy. The original ran for 5 years and was still taken down. Copycats have already died twice. On the product side it has no differentiation. Its only edge is the title, and at least 8 packages are already splitting that edge.
What to learn is the signal: when an app with hundreds of thousands of users disappears from the store, its name leaves a stretch of search demand with no legitimate taker. The original's users wanted something specific: free, watchable on African networks, with the Premier League and Champions League.
If it were you
C. A useful signal, but not worth chasing with this one. Copying it means piracy plus name impersonation, and the term "Futgenix" is already crowded with 8 packages. Serving these users legitimately means competing with FotMob and the like on data and experience, where a solo indie dev has no edge.
- Good for: people in the app store business who already have a legitimate app ready to list, and who treat "watch for big apps being taken down" as a long-term topic-picking method.
- Not for: anyone who wants to copy this package (takedowns are just a matter of time, and only a multi-account matrix survives them, and you'd be competing with a group that already runs seven packages); anyone planning a head-on score app against FotMob and Sofascore.
- How to do it: regularly check which apps with hundreds of thousands of installs were just taken down, read their old reviews first to understand what users actually want, then build a non-infringing real alternative under your own name. Use words like "alternative" in the store copy, and don't attach the original name. Skip sports streaming, a category that depends on piracy. Taken-down tools, score, and study apps are better targets.
- How to acquire users: Play search and small-country category charts. In a market like Nigeria, a few thousand installs can put you in the top hundred of the sports chart, the cheapest place to test keywords and titles. Watch whether installs spike along the sports calendar (weekend league matches, Champions League weeks).
- When to move before: the brand gap is one-time. Copycats were riding the original while it was still live (Dice Match 2025-09, BLADE AND LIGHT 2026-02). When the original was taken down in mid-September, Wolf Sports renamed itself and entered within seven weeks. These windows are measured in weeks, not months. List within a week or two of a big app's takedown.
- Signs you read it wrong: ① this package, or this group's seven packages, are not taken down within 30 days, and installs keep climbing into the hundreds of thousands, meaning Play cleans up these packages more slowly than expected and the gap lasts longer; ② the original Futgenix relists under a new account, meaning the name's existing claim belongs to the original owner and whoever takes it wastes their effort; ③ a legitimate score app gains clear growth in African markets from "Futgenix alternative"-type keywords, meaning the legitimate route works and is worth pushing one step further.

Futgenix: Football Live TV(com.mcl.livecrickettv.score,Wolf Sports)
In short: one package in a Pakistani-run matrix of "free football streaming" pirate apps. It started as a cricket streaming app and was renamed Futgenix after the long-running live-streaming app "Futgenix" (5 years old, 860k installs, 4.6 stars) was taken down from Play. It captures traffic from old users searching "Futgenix" on Play. It ranks 139 on Nigeria's SPORTS Top Free chart and has 9,389 installs worldwide. It got this far by riding a brand name that was left vacant, not by building a product.
1. Basic data (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 → 11-06)
| Date | Total installs | New today | Nigeria SPORTS Top Free |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 971 | – | 176 |
| 10-31 | 6,149 | +5,178 | 184 |
| 11-03 | 7,441 | +1,292 | 127 |
| 11-05 | 9,145 | +1,704 | 134 |
| 11-06 | 9,389 | +244 | 139 |
- First listed 2026-08-18 (same day as com.mcl.livefootballttvhd.streaming from the same developer). Version 1.0.4, store update date 2026-10-22. The package name says livecrickettv, meaning it began as a cricket streaming package before switching to football and renaming to Futgenix.
- No rating (no rating count), no reviews in the library, no in-app purchases. The listing says "no ads" (ad_supported=False), but reviews of a sister package in the same matrix say "too many ads," so the monetization method is unverified.
- Has charted on only one chart: Nigeria SPORTS Top Free (155–184 → 127–145).
- The store description copies the original Futgenix copy word for word ("FutGenix – Soccer Live Scores Updates"). But the disclaimer at the end reads "Live Football TV HD is not affiliated with any official broadcaster… All content is sourced from publicly available channels… contact [email protected]," showing it was reworked from a "Live Football TV HD" template (Play store page, read via Jina on 2026-11-06).
2. How the name "Futgenix" was left open
- The original Futgenix: Football Live TV (com.futgenix.soccer.scores, developer Futgenix): chrome-stats records creation on 2020-09-17, developer country PK, 808,298 installs, 4.58 stars (10,515 ratings). AppBrain records 860k installs, 4.6 stars (10,119 ratings), last updated 2026-08-16. It was taken down from Play on 2026-09-13, after being "on Play for 5 years." Reviews on AppBrain come from users around Kenya and Malawi: "the best when it comes to football live-streaming," "best app to live stream football matches 🇲🇼." Its developer page now lists no apps. futgenix.com now points to an iPhone score app.
- When a brand that built a following of over 80 million African users on the strength of "free live streams" is taken down, its users search Play for "Futgenix." Anyone can grab that term now.
- Packages that grabbed the name (web search via Jina / Brave / Exa, 2026-11-06):
- com.genixfutgenixfoot.ffutgenixfutbooltv, "Futgenix: Football Live TV," by BLADE AND LIGHT MEDIA LLC (the same company that runs CricPlus cricket streaming). Listed 2026-02, Play page 100k+. AppGoblin estimates 147k installs, about 25k monthly active users, and under $10k a month in ad revenue.
- com.dicematch.matchdice, "Futgenix," by Dice Match, listed 2025-09. Googleplay library shows 49,619 installs, +7 in 4,556 days, and NG SPORTS Top Free 108 (higher than Wolf Sports).
- com.live.football.tv.hd.elite, "Futgenix: Football Live TV," by Score-Hub, 36k installs, taken down 2026-07-16.
- com.livefootballtvhd.purple, "Futgenix," 10k installs, taken down 2026-06.
- com.futgenix.livesoccerscore (JohnnyTheDev, 10k+), com.aakbarber.funtgenix_footballlivepro "Funtgenix" (10k+), com.weltig.weltig "Futgenix TV Football", com.futgenix.football.live.tv.hd.streamin.blue (FUTURE DWELLING, 50+, delisted).
- In other words, knockoffs were already piling up while the original was still live. After September got delisted, the name became a public search term, and Wolf Sports is just the latest one to rush in.
3. The matrix behind it (googleplay library)
The developer sites are all livesportstv1072.blogspot.com and cric-it-1072.blogspot.com, two blogspot sites. Their emails cross over (the disclaimer email in this package, [email protected], is the support email for both Wolf Sports' "Live Sports Plus HD" and Sports-Streamx's "Live Sports Plus HD"). It's safe to say the same group is running three developer accounts:
| Package | Developer | Launched | Installs | 7 days | Best category chart |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| com.all.Live.sports.plus.hd.black(Live Sports Plus HD) | Sports-Streamx | 2026-04-26 | 94,378 | +13,490 | – (3,687 ratings, 3.9 stars) |

| com.mcl.livecrickettv.score(Futgenix) | Wolf Sports | 2026-08-18 | 9,389 | +8,418 | Nigeria SPORTS 139 |
About 260k installs combined. A few traits stand out:
- Package names and titles change often: Sports-Streamx's package name contains "futgenix" and is now called "Live Cricket TV HD"; this package's name contains "livecrickettv" and is now called Futgenix. They switch between football and cricket seasons and attach whichever brand term has search volume.
- The word "elite" appears both in the delisted Futgenix knockoff com.live.football.tv.hd.elite (Score-Hub) and in this group's com.elite.vision.* package names. It may be the same group's earlier account that got removed (unverified).
- There is actually a live stream: sister package com.mcl.livefootballttvhd.streaming has 28 Italian-language reviews in the library (10-10 to 10-29). Some say "I tried many free apps, only this one works, no lag" and "the only place to watch the Champions League tonight"; others say "doesn't work" and "too many ads". Average 3.46; store rating dropped from 4.8 (342 ratings) to 3.9 (471 ratings). This shows the group's apps really stream matches (pirated), not just scores.
- Market split: the same group's packages target Italy, the UK, and the UAE (English and Italian speakers) and Nigeria (where the original Futgenix users were in Africa).
4. Competitors
This category is an old red ocean on Play. In the googleplay library, there are 178 apps in the SPORTS category with titles containing football tv / soccer tv / live football / futbol. 47 of them were listed after 2026-08; over 7 days they added up to +1.79M installs.
- Legitimate score apps: FotMob, LiveScore, and Sofascore (the three APKPure recommends as alternatives to the original Futgenix). All have tens of millions of installs, real data, and no pirated streams.
- Clones using the same playbook, "Live Football TV HD": SKILLSFIT (519k, NG 12), GAMZO SOFT (141k, +55k in 7 days), Shazi Center (285k), AB Properties, Bisa bisa (about 78k combined, +68k in 7 days), SHN SPORTS ZONE, and others.
- Same-name competitors: the two "Futgenix" apps BLADE AND LIGHT (about 150k) and Dice Match (about 50k) from section 2 above.
- Sister brand: Cricgenix: Live cricket TV (com.cricgenix.live.cricket, starting at 2019, 1.3M installs, UAE SPORTS 11), plus ZiMATRIX's "Cricgenix" knockoff (390k). "-genix" looks like a brand family of Pakistani-linked live TV apps; its relationship to Futgenix is unverified.
- Official options: DAZN, StarTimes ON, and each country's broadcaster apps.
Compared with these, this package has no functional edge. The only difference is that its title takes a brand name that just opened up and still has existing users searching for it, plus a multi-account matrix behind it that can swap packages at any time.
5. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| The brand term "Futgenix" in Play search | The original had 860K installs before 2026-09-13 pulled it; this package renamed to Futgenix copies the original's description word for word; it only charts in Nigeria, where the original's users were; a same-name package, Dice Match, also charts in NG | Confirmed (the inference chain is complete, but there is no search volume data) |
| Organic traffic from small-country category charts | NG SPORTS Top Free 127–184; a few thousand installs is enough to chart here | Confirmed |
| Event calendar | The jumps in 10-31, 11-03, and 11-05 match weekend league days and Champions League week (11-04/05). The library collects data every other day, so single-day numbers aren't reliable | Unconfirmed |
| Cross-promotion within the matrix / reskin reuse | Seven packages share blogspot sites, emails, and disclaimer templates; titles and package names are swapped around | Confirmed to be the same group; whether they cross-promote inside the apps is unverified |
| Paid acquisition / TikTok / X | Searching "futgenix" on TikTok only returns videos for FUTGenie (an EA FC cheat tool); x-radar shows 90 posts in 0 days; the ad libraries don't track it | None found |
| Rating farming | This package has no ratings; sister packages have 342→471 reviews, and ratings grew more slowly than installs, which doesn't look like fake ratings | None for this package |
6. Why it took off
- Brand vacuum: a free football-viewing app with 5 years on the market, 80+ million installs and a 4.6-star rating got pulled from September, but its users are still searching for the name. Wolf Sports renamed a stalled cricket bag to Futgenix and copied the original copy word for word to catch that search traffic.
- Matrix as a fallback: the same group runs seven packages across three developer accounts. When one is removed, they swap in another, and package names and titles follow the season and the brand terms. In the matrix, this package is small (9.4K, compared with about 94k for Sports-Streamx).
- Low bar in small-country category charts: a few thousand installs can put an app in the top 130 of Nigeria's SPORTS chart, which brings a bit more chart traffic.
- The demand is real: fans in Africa, Italy, and the Gulf want to watch the Champions League and top-five leagues for free, and the sister package's reviews confirm there are real match streams inside.
7. Differentiation
There is no product differentiation. The features and copy are templates; even the disclaimer wasn't changed. Compared with similar apps, the only "difference" is that the title borrows a brand name with existing demand. That's really why this package can gain traction, but the edge is thin: at least two same-name packages, BLADE AND LIGHT and Dice Match, are competing for it, and Dice Match ranks higher.
8. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No media coverage, no discussion on X, no TikTok content. Only aggregator sites like AppBrain, APKPure, and AppGoblin are indexing it automatically.
- Copycatting: it is itself a copycat. There are at least 8 Play packages grabbing the name "Futgenix" (two have already been delisted).
9. What others can borrow
- "A big delisted app" is a signal worth tracking: when an app with hundreds of thousands of users disappears from the store, its brand term keeps getting search traffic that nobody claims. A gone table combined with install counts can systematically find these gaps. But the legitimate play is to build a real alternative and capture it with terms like "alternative" in the store, not to borrow someone else's name, which carries trademark and takedown risk.
- Multiple packages, multiple accounts, rename and republish is the standard playbook in this category. Low-bar small-country category charts and event calendars are used to test traffic.
- Not recommended to copy: piracy plus borrowing a brand name carries very high copyright and Play policy risk. The original itself was delisted after 5 years.
10. Still unclear
- The exact date of the rename to Futgenix (around the 10-22 1.0.4 version?), and how it relates to the +5,178 at 10-31.
- Monetization: the store page says "no ads", but apps like this usually earn from interstitial / app-open ads; revenue scale is unknown.
- Whether this group has any connection to the original Futgenix (both are PK-linked and use futgenix / elite package names), or whether it's purely borrowing the name.
- Whether they drive traffic from Telegram, WhatsApp groups, or APK sites (the original Futgenix had mirrors on cafebazaar, pgyer, and apkpure).
- How quickly it gets delisted.
