No amplifier needed to push the faders: how Brazil's "car audio tabletop simulator" got 290k installs on Play
What it is A phone-based "car audio mixer" simulator: a realistic console with faders, VU meters, and an EQ, playing the songs on your phone. Two phones can work together, one playing music while the other acts as the remote console.
Why it took off From day one, the developer posted console demos on TikTok using insider hashtags. Single clips hit hundreds of thousands of views, and people in the scene started calling it "mesa CL22" and spread it by word of mouth. No one else on Play was doing it, so a search turned up only this app.
BHow you could follow Don't compete with it on Brazilian Android. Build the Brazilian iPhone version it hasn't made, or move to markets like Indonesia's sound horeg or Mexico's sonidero, which have their own sound-wall scenes, or to other expensive gear. Use the same approach: build in public, post on TikTok, and use fans to clear Play's closed testing requirement.

An individual developer in Jardim, a small inland town in Ceará state in northeastern Brazil, turned the "sound-mixing console" that Brazil's car audio scene covets into a phone toy. He spent no money on ads. From the day he started coding, he posted demo videos on TikTok, and the scene called it "mesa CL22." The two apps together have been installed 290k times, and the second one, Equalizador Automotivo, hit 108k installs in three months. It took off because no one else on Play was doing it. To follow, copy the playbook: a niche hobby community, a realistic simulator toy, and building in public. Then go where he hasn't: iPhone and Indonesia.
"Still needs some tweaks, but it already works"
In Apr 2026 25, a brand-new TikTok account, @mesaautomotiva, posted a 43-second video: a car audio mixer on a phone screen, faders moving, VU meters jumping, heavy bass music in the background. The caption said only "Falta alguns ajustes mas já ta funcionando" (still needs some tweaks, but it already works), with the tags #somautomotivo_no12 #medionotalo #mesadesom, all Brazilian car audio scene slang.
The video got 152k views (TikTok, 11-06). Commenters asked "Is it an equalizer for songs?" and "What's it called?" and "Is there an iOS version?" One wrote: "I really, truly want an app like this, I'm not joking."
The app wasn't in any store yet at this point.
What it is
Brazil has a big "som automotivo / paredão" scene: people pack trunks and pickup beds with subwoofers and amplifiers to build "sound walls," competing on the street and at parties for who's loudest and who has the heaviest bass. Scene members watch short videos of others working the mixers and processors from Brazilian brands like Taramps and Stetsom every day, but most can't afford that gear.
Equalizador Automotivo is a toy built for them. Open it and you get two realistic consoles: one called CROF22, with channels, faders, VU meters, and EQ; the other called Sondecraft, with a radio, inputs, treble/mid/bass knobs, and a master volume. The name Sondecraft is a direct nod to Soundcraft, the mixer brand the scene knows. It plays songs stored on the phone and lets you build playlists. Its most interesting feature: two phones on the same Wi-Fi, one playing music and the other acting as the remote console.
The store page is blunt: "This is a visual simulator and does not control real devices." Users don't care. One user, Aug 29, wrote: "Definitely the best. Very accurate, very responsive, I tuned my Aiwa speaker to the sound I wanted." Another said: "Better than a lot of real mixers. Use it to play mp3 on your phone, give the developer 10 stars, and the app 10000 stars." (Google Play reviews, August)
How it took off
Build in public on TikTok first. On the day the account opened in Apr 25, it posted 4 development videos back to back. Every video after that was the same: the console moving on screen, the bass playing. May 17 "EM BREVE NOVO APP SAINDO" (new app coming soon): 127k views, 5,821 likes; May 22: 176k views; Jul 22 "Simulador de Mesa Automotiva": 168k views. The account has 28 videos and 8,404 followers in total (TikTok, 11-06). No editing tricks were needed, because the moving console is the content.
The comments kept asking the same things: "What's it called?" "Is it on Play?" "When is it coming out?" "Tell me when it's live, I want to be the first to download." These people were the first users.
APK first, store later. A late-April video said "download via the link in my profile," and the developer's GitHub Pages site still offers the APK for direct download today. In May 28, the first store version, Simulador de Mesa Automotiva, went live on Google Play.
Using fans to clear the testing requirement. Google Play requires new individual developer accounts to run a closed test first: at least 12 testers installing for 14 days before publishing to production. The developer built a dedicated page on the website asking fans to join a Google group and install the beta from Play, noting "keep it installed for at least 14 days." The second app, Equalizador Automotivo (the one this article is about), was launched this way on Aug 1.
The scene named it. Users didn't call it by its store name but "mesa CL22." On Sep 21, a user account posted "App name: MESA CL22, Android only" and got 86k views and 4,436 likes. Others posted tutorials on how to download and set it up. TikTok already has a dozen or so search-term pages like "mesa cl22 como instalar" (how to install) and "como configurar" (how to set up). No paid creator partnerships were visible (unverified).
Taking two spots in store search. On the Brazilian Play storefront, searching "mesa de som automotiva" (car audio mixer) returns his apps in first and second place: v1 and v2, both 4.5 stars. v2 uses the broader generic term "Equalizador Automotivo" (car equalizer) to catch more searches.
Install curve (third-party estimates from August onward, Google Play install counts for November):
| Timeline | Total installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 08-10 | About 2,700 | Day 10 after launch |
| 08-16 → 08-23 | 6,300 → 31k | Up 24k in a week, the only clear spike |
| 10-01 | About 80k | fell back to 600–900 per day |
| 11-05 | 107,429 | Last 7 days +5,037 |
Who drove that week of August is unclear from the outside. The timing lines up: in Aug 16, a creator in Indonesia's "sound horeg" (the Indonesian sound-wall scene) responded to fans and posted a video introducing the app (18k views). Afterward, v2 appeared only on Indonesia's music category chart (ranks 169–199, from 10-29 to 11-05). That's not enough to say the spike came from Indonesia (inference, weak evidence).
The same developer's v1 is bigger: 186k installs, ranked 116–146 on Brazil's free "Music & Audio" chart (11-06). Combined, the two are about 293k.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Simulador de Mesa Automotiva (same developer, v1) | 186k installs | First version, multiple consoles, $1.89 one-time purchase to remove ads |
| Mídia Play Mesa Som(RT Studio) | About 5k followers on TikTok, install count unknown | The only true competitor, appearing around May at the same time but only offering APK downloads on its website, not on Play |
| STETSOM STX DSP, Taramps Pro | 100k+, 10k+ installs | Official control apps for real processors, unusable without the hardware |
| Generic equalizers like SpotEQ31 and Bass Booster | Millions to tens of millions of installs | Can actually change phone sound, but the interface is generic and has nothing to do with a "car audio console" |
| Indonesia's BGS Audio Manager, MIXJOS, and others | Small | Phone mixers for Indonesia's sound scene, sold as APKs on TikTok |
The takeaway is simple: someone who sees it on TikTok and searches Play finds only this app.
One gap remains: there's no iPhone version. Nearly every comment under his TikTok videos asks "Is there an iPhone version?" In Nov 6, searches on Brazil's App Store for "mesa de som automotiva" and "simulador mesa som" returned no console simulators, only a car-modding game.
Where the money comes from
Not much. v2 is free with ads (AdMob, Appodeal), and $1.99 a month as a subscription removes the ads. v1 is a one-time $1.89 purchase. It has never charted in Top Grossing, and its revenue is not public. At Brazilian Android ad rates, the two apps together probably make a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars a month (estimate). That's a side project for one person, not a business.
If it were you
The verdict: don't go after him on Brazilian Android. He already owns the search terms and the name there. What's worth copying is the playbook: find a hobby circle where the gear is expensive, lots of people watch, and there's no phone alternative, then build a highly faithful simulator toy and post on TikTok from day one, while you build.
Who it's for: one or two people who can ship good-looking UI fast in Flutter or Unity, who are already in a hardware hobby, know its slang, and can post short videos every day.
Who it's not for: anyone who wants to fund a team with this. Simulator toys earn thin revenue, retention depends on novelty, and there's no technical moat; someone can clone it in a month. It's also wrong for people with no feel for the scene who just want a template: users pay for "looks like the one in our circle," and outsiders get it wrong.
How to build it: pick one of three paths. ① Brazilian iPhone version: the demand is spelled out in the comments, nobody on the App Store does it, and you can sell a one-time purchase. ② Move to a sound-wall culture market: Indonesia's sound horeg (APKs are sold already, but nobody has done it well in a store), Mexico's sonidero, Colombia's picó. Swap the faceplate look and slang for local ones. ③ Change the gear: DJ lighting console, racing dashboard, guitar pedalboard. Every version should copy his two moves: linked dual-device mode (easy to film for friends), and one in-circle name plus one generic keyword entry to hold the same small search term.
How to get users: open TikTok on day one with community hashtags, and post demos that are "not finished but already working." Collect the people who ask "what's it called, where do I get it" in comments, and use them to fill the Play closed test for new accounts: 12 testers × 14 days. After launch, invite users to post "my phone's faceplate" so the circle names the app for you, with a name that's easy to remember.
When is the window: it's the time before anyone in the circle puts this in a store. The Brazilian iPhone gap could be filled by the original developer at any time, so count it in months. For other countries and devices, count it in a year.
Signs you've got it wrong: ① after a month of demo videos, single posts still get only a few thousand views and nobody asks "what's it called," which means the circle isn't big enough or doesn't need this; ② after launch, daily actives fall faster than installs and almost nobody opens it after a month, meaning it's a one-off novelty toy and ads won't cover the cost; ③ the original developer ships an iPhone or Indonesian version first, in which case switch circles instead of competing head-on.

One line
A phone "car audio mixer" simulator for Brazil's "som automotivo / paredão (car audio wall)" scene. The developer cl22apps (email [email protected], an individual developer) started posting videos on TikTok while still in development, built word of mouth around the name "mesa CL22," and then published the same product as a second store entry (v2). On Google Play it has almost no direct competitors: searching "mesa de som automotiva" returns its own two apps at the top, with the rest being control apps for real hardware (Taramps, Stetsom) and generic EQ / DJ apps.

- Store page shows "100 mil+" and 4.5 stars (Play Brazil search results); the ratings field in our database is empty, which means the scraper didn't capture it, not that the app has 0 rating.
- Charts: v2 has only hovered at #169–199 in Indonesia's Music & Audio Top Free (2026-10-29 to 11-05, chart_rank); it hit #11-02 once in the Brazil store (199).
- The larger same-developer v1 "Simulador de Mesa Automotiva / Car Audio Mixer Simulator" (com.mesaautomotiva.cl23, store debut 2026-05-28) has 185,537 installs and +7 in the last 8,589 days, ranking #116–146 in Brazil's Music & Audio Top Free (chart_rank 10-29 to 11-06). Combined, the two apps have about 293k installs.
- Two other apps from the same developer (Deep Bass Booster CLOF22 com.clof22.equalizerraw, Frequency Generator CLOF22 com.dialody.player) each show only "1 mil+" (Play store page); they're generic utility tests.
2. Competitors
| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Simulador de Mesa Automotiva (cl23, same developer, v1) | Android | 2026-05-28 | 186k installs, around #120 in Brazil's Music Top Free | First version of the same product: many faceplates, $1.89 one-time in-app purchase, no ads. v2 switches to two faceplates + player + Wi-Fi linked dual-device mode + ads + monthly subscription to remove them. |

| Taramps Pro / Pro2.4BT+Audio(TARAMPS) | Android | Early on | 10k+ installs (Pro) | Bluetooth control app for real hardware (a processor from a Brazilian amp brand); useless without the hardware. This one is "playable without hardware." |
| STETSOM STX DSP(Stetsom) | Android | Early on | 100k+ installs, 1.1 thousand reviews | Same as above; official DSP controller; competes with it for the same Play search terms |
| Generic equalizers such as SpotEQ31, XEQ, Flat Equalizer, Coocent Bass Booster | Android | 2016–2020 | 1M–46M installs | Real system-audio EQ with generic UI; its selling point is looking like a Brazilian car audio faceplate, but its features are weak |
| DJ mixer apps (Easyelife, Mobile_V5, etc.) | Android | From ¥2023 | tens of millions | DJ scratching, not a car audio faceplate; different crowd |
| "Car engine sound simulators" like Car Sound Simulator | iOS / Android | 2023–2024 | iOS rating count 0 | The name is similar, but they make engine sounds and quizzes, which is a different thing |
| Indonesian "miniatur / horeg" phone mixers such as BGS Audio Manager, MIXJOS, GG Digital Mixer | Indonesian TikTok sells the APKs | 2026 | Small | Indonesia's parallel scene: selling APKs for cash. cl22apps ride the Indonesian category-chart traffic |
Bottom line: there's no second Play Store listing for a "Brazilian car-audio dashboard simulator". The real competitor (Mídia Play) went with APK sideloading and gave up on store search.
3. Growth tactics (evidence)
- The dev runs their own TikTok, posting from before launch (confirmed). @mesaautomotiva (signature: "Baixe nosso app na Play Store") opened the account on 2026-04-25, posted 4 "in development / testing" videos that first day, peaking at 152k views. From mid-May to late July, nearly every post got 3–170k views (5-17 "EM BREVE NOVO APP SAINDO": 127k views / 5,821 likes; 5-22 "Esse e muito mais em um único app em breve": 176k views; 7-22 "Simulador de Mesa Automotiva": 168k views). Across the account: 28 posts, 8,404 followers, 49.9k likes (TikHub, 2026-11-06). Every hashtag is scene jargon: #somautomotivo_no12 #medionotalo #grave #mesadesom #sondcraft.
- APK first, store second (confirmed). The 4-29 video says "ACESSE O LINK DA BIO E FAÇA O DOWNLOAD". The dev site mesa-automotiva.github.io/simulador-mesa/ still hosts a direct download of mesa-automotiva.apk. The store version v1 launched 5-28.
- Using fans to fill a closed test for a new account (confirmed). The dev site's /simulador-mesa-2-teste-fechado/ page sends fans to a Google group, testadores-simulador-segunda-verso, then to play.google.com/apps/testing/com.mesaautomotiva.cl23v2, and requires "at least 14 days installed". That is the closed-test threshold Google Play imposes on new personal developer accounts before launch (12 testers × 14 days). It shows v2 was built with TikTok followers.
- Creators in the scene are spreading it on their own, and the name that sticks is "MESA CL22" (confirmed). @residencialabelbeetle 09-21 "Nome do aplicativo: MESA CL22 Só funciona pra android" 86k plays / 4,436 likes; @eogustanevd0 05-17 59k plays; @o.lucas075 08-01 "Depois conheceu essa mesa que acaba com tudo" 22k plays, and 10-11 teaches people how to "abaixar a mesa CL22"; @familia.dh.som, @bob_atrevida_02, @fabiio_sousa_oficial, @gb_paredao_ofc and other 1 to 4 thousand-view side accounts keep posting. TikTok has generated 10 or more discover pages for searches like "mesa cl22 como instalar / como configurar / aplicativo" (Brave search, indexed 2026-06 to 09), which points to steady on-platform search demand. No clear sign of paid partnerships; not verified.
- Store search squatting (confirmed). On the Brazil Play storefront, searching "mesa de som automotiva" returns #1 and #2 as cl23 and cl23v2, both 4.5-star. One developer is taking two slots for the same search term. v2 uses the generic name "Equalizador Automotivo", which catches broader searches.
- Spillover into Indonesia (partly confirmed). @havaaudiopdn.az (08-16, "aplikasi mixer equalizador automotivo", 18k views) and @sound.system457 (08-27) in Indonesia's "sound miniatur / horeg" scene responded to fans asking about this app. The timing lines up with the surge of 8-16 plus 24k installs in one week, and v2 later appeared only on Indonesia's category charts. I can't confirm whether Indonesia was the main driver of the surge.
- Paid acquisition: none found. I found no evidence of ad spend. Our ad library doesn't track this product, so that's not proof it didn't run ads.
4. Why it took off
- A specific scene plus a real-world object that's expensive and not on phones. People in Brazil's paredão / som automotivo scene watch others work on their mixing desks all the time (Soundcraft-style consoles, Taramps / Stetsom processors), but most don't own the gear. This app turns the "desk" into a phone toy: faders to push, VU meters, music playback. The Sondecraft / CROF22 names copy the look of gear the scene already knows.
- The content is the product demo. The desk moves on screen and the subwoofers thump, which makes a TikTok clip on its own. The dev's own videos hit 100k+ views with no editing skill required, and viewers then film their own "my phone's mesa CL22", which creates UGC.
- Nobody is building this in the store. Searching the term on Play returns either official control apps for hardware or generic EQ / DJ apps. The only real competitor, Mídia Play, only ships an APK. So someone who gets hooked on TikTok and goes to Play to search finds only this one.
- Two lanes: v1 captured the first wave (186k). v2 changed the name and the feature set (two desks + a player + two phones on the same Wi-Fi, one as a display and one as a controller), took the second slot for the same search term, and reached 107k.
- Revenue comes from ads (AdMob + Appodeal, per mesa-automotiva.github.io/app-ads.txt, published 2026-10-05) plus a $1.99/month subscription to remove ads (per the store listing). v1 is a $1.89 one-time purchase. Revenue isn't public and it hasn't hit the grossing charts, so I'd guess it's small.
5. Differentiation
Its edge over competitors isn't the tech (the app itself states it is "a visual simulator and does not control real devices"). It's theme and distribution: (1) the interface is modeled on the desks in Brazil's car-audio scene and uses its jargon and gear names; (2) it's on the Play Store, while the only competitor ships an APK; (3) the two-phone Wi-Fi link is a "show your friends by setting up two phones" feature, which is easy to film. Those three things explain the breakout. It wasn't more features. It was the first thing in the scene you could find in the store, plus a developer who makes content on TikTok.
6. How many people have seen it
- No press coverage, no discussion on X (x-radar search for "mesa cl22" found 90 posts over 0 days), no public revenue, and it hasn't charted on grossing. It only appears on auto-indexing sites like APKPure, Softonic, and AppBrain.
- Known in Brazil's som automotivo TikTok niche ("MESA CL22" is the brand term). Almost nobody outside the scene knows it.
- Followers: Mídia Play (RT Studio) showed up around the same time (May), so it looks like a parallel competitor, not a copy. I haven't seen any store listing copying this one on Play yet.
7. What others can learn
- Find a hobby niche where the gear is expensive, lots of people watch others use it, and phones have no substitute (car audio, lighting desks, racing sims, guitar effects...). Build a highly faithful visual toy. The interface itself is the short-video content.
- Build in public on TikTok from the first line of code, use scene hashtags, and the followers you collect can fill the closed-test requirement of 12 testers × 14 days for a new Play account.
- One product, two store listings: one under the scene name and one under a generic term (Equalizador Automotivo). Together they take the top two spots for a niche search term.
- The same playbook could be copied into markets with a similar "wall of speakers" culture: Indonesia (sound horeg / miniatur), Mexico (sonidero), and others.
8. Still unclear
- Who drove the surge of 8-16 plus 24k in one week? Indonesian creators, a specific Brazilian viral UGC post, Play recommendations, or cross-promotion from v1 to v2. There's no direct evidence for any of these.
- Revenue size (ads + subscriptions) is unknown. I haven't pulled the rating count.
- Whether it had paid creator partnerships or ad buys is unverified.
- The developer's identity (individual or small studio) is unclear. All I know is they're a Portuguese-speaking Brazilian developer with the email [email protected].
