One message costs 14 coins: MeetJoy is the fifth reskinned companion pack from a Singapore company, targeting Nigeria and the Philippines
What it is A stranger voice and video chat app: male users buy coins and pay per message or per minute to chat one-on-one with female hosts, with exchanging contact info banned. It targets Nigeria and the Philippines.
Why it's taking off The same company took its two-year-old parent app Chatta, reskinned it into a new package, and runs Facebook and Reels ads with country-tailored messaging like "Naija Singles" and "Filipino girls are waiting for you". Add ready-made host guilds and coin billing, and it climbed from #91 to #60 on the Philippines grossing chart in a week.
CHow you could follow Don't build another copy of the same app. Either go to regions where it and its rivals are still thin (East Africa, French-speaking West Africa), check the charts, then enter; or borrow only its "one local brand per country, flag plus locals waiting for you" ad creative and apply it to dating, local, or language-exchange products that don't rely on hosts.

MeetJoy went live on Google Play in Aug 4, reached 660k installs in three months, and ranked #7 on the Nigeria social free chart, the only new face in the top ten. It has no new idea: it runs the old template of "male users buy coins and pay for one-on-one chats with female hosts." The company behind it already had a 13.8M-install version of the same app, which it renamed, given a localized ad set, and run again. Below: where the money comes from, where the traffic comes from, who's competing, and whether you should follow.
A man who spent 20,000 naira
In Oct 31, a Nigerian user left MeetJoy a one-star review on Google Play:
"After spending about ₦20,000, a girl I know told me women don't pay to chat. So I signed up as a woman, and only then found out they actively recruit women. This app recruits women to chat with you and keeps you burning coins on calls."
The day before, a Facebook page called "Meetjoy live chat" posted a Reel with a MeetJoy download link under it. By Nov 6, the video had 253k views, 541 reactions, and only 8 comments. A month earlier, the same page had posted a video with a "Free Download" button, titled "🇳🇬 Naija Singles Ready to Chat," with copy saying lots of single Nigerian women were waiting for you in the live rooms.
Put together, these show the whole business: ads pull men in, hosts are recruited to chat, and men pay per message and per minute.
What it is
On the store page, MeetJoy calls itself a social app for "making new friends through voice and video chat," with live chat rooms, one-on-one voice, and video. In practice, male users pay coins to send messages and make calls. One Nigerian user complained in Oct 26 that "one message costs 14 coins, too much"; in-app purchases run from $0.59 to $284.99 per item. Women don't pay, and some are hosts the platform recruited, earning a share of chat time.
The rule most criticized in reviews is that exchanging phone numbers and social accounts is banned: "I met a girl here, I can't give her my number and she can't give me hers, so what's the point of this app" (10-27); "even ordinary words get flagged as violations, and calls are too expensive" (10-31). The rule is deliberate: once a relationship moves to WhatsApp, the coins stop burning.
How fast it grew
| Date | Total installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 505,528 | 8,123 |
| 11-03 | 626,844 | 10,104 |
| 11-06 | 662,232 | 11,588 |
Source: Google Play install and rating counts. From 10-29 to 11-06, installs rose 157k, a 31% increase, about 20k per day on average; the rating is 4.47, with 75% five-star.
11-06 Google Play social charts:
- Nigeria: #7 on the free chart (consistently between #6 and #8, behind Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and similar), #33 on the grossing chart, #55 overall app chart.
- Philippines: #10 on the free chart, #60 on the grossing chart. 10-29 is at #91, up 31 places in a week, suggesting paid users are climbing.
- Vietnam: free chart #11-04, #176,11-05, #88,11-06, #34. It surged in three days, which looks like a new region being launched with paid ads (inference).
- #43 in Indonesia, #126 in India.
Ratings are climbing a bit fast: about 3,500 new ratings this week, 2.2% of new installs, which is high for companion apps. Many new reviews are short five-star comments like "good," "nice," "I love it," and the Nigerian reviews include some in Hindi and Tagalog. This could be an in-app prompt asking for good reviews, or it could be fake activity; I can't confirm which.
Who's behind it
The developer is METAZ TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD., registered in Singapore in 2022. It has 5 packages on Google Play, one brand per region:
| App | Launched | Cumulative installs (11-06) | New in the last 7 days | Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chatta - Live Meet Friends | 2024-05 | 13.8M | +365k | Global, #19 on the Nigeria social grossing chart |
| Seeta – Conecta con Latinos | 2024-12 | 4.89M | +141k | Latin America |
| Ruyo - Live Chat Lounge | 2026-06 | 360k | +80k | Middle East (#8 on the UAE social free chart) |
| MeetJoy | 2026-08 | 660k | +157k | Nigeria, Philippines |
| Fawoo - Live Streams & Chat | 2026-10-22 | 13k | +13k | Saudi Arabia |
The five packages add up to about 19.7M installs. Chatta is the parent: billing, anti-scraping, and host payouts have run on it for two years, and MeetJoy took that stack, changed the name, and reused it. Chatta itself ranks #10 on the Nigeria social free chart and #24 in the Philippines, so it is competing with MeetJoy for the same users. Why launch another package? Likely two reasons: a new app gets Play's cold-start traffic and takes up another search and chart slot; and a brand built around "Naija Singles" may draw more clicks from Nigerians than a generic global brand.
Where the traffic comes from
| Channel | What we saw | How sure are we? |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook / Reels install ads | The page "Meetjoy live chat" has consistently posted country-tailored short videos: the Nigerian version says "Naija Singles" and "Find Love on Meetjoy," the Filipino version says "Lots of open women are waiting to chat with you," all with "Free Download / Install now" buttons that go straight to Play. The 10-30 video had 253k views and 8 comments; the gap between views and engagement is too wide to be organic traffic. | Confirmed running ads; I couldn't find how many creatives or how much was spent. |
| Hosts and guilds | Chatta's parent app has a full playbook for recruiting hosts. chattalive.site says "Earn $2 a day hosting, withdraw once you hit $10, referral commissions"; a Philippine Facebook recruiting group says "agents get weekly bonuses, up to 20% commission, hosts up to ₱5,000 a week"; and there are Nigerian YouTube tutorials titled "Earn Naira Chatting." MeetJoy's reviews include "they even recruit ladies," "girls chat for free," and "withdrawal is slow." | MeetJoy's own recruiting page wasn't found. This is inferred from Chatta. |
| the "you can earn money" claims in reviews | Under other apps' Philippine ads, people ask: "Does this one pay out like meetjoy too?" | Confirmed, but the volume can't be seen |
| TikTok, X, media | None found. Searching "meetjoy" on TikTok returns a same-named K-pop account and Pixar content. No media coverage. | Confirmed absent |
Male users are bought through paid acquisition. Female hosts are recruited through word of mouth ("earn money chatting from home") and agent commissions. Both sides are pulled in Nigeria and the Philippines, English-speaking markets where users are cheap to acquire.
Who it's competing with
The social charts in Nigeria and the Philippines are mostly the same kind of product, and many come from Chinese going-global teams:
| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play installs, 11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bigo Live / Tango | 2016 / 2010 | 850M / 390M | Large live-streaming platforms |
| Chamet | 2019 | $78M, Nigeria social Top Grossing #10 | Same model, established, much bigger |
| Poppo Live | 2022 | $48M, Philippines social Top Grossing #3 | More livestream-focused |
| Timo Lite | 2026-09-30 | 730k, +350k in a week | Launched two months after MeetJoy and growing faster in the Philippines |
| Minemo - Voice Chat & Friends | 2026-09-11 | 590k, Nigeria social Top Free #18 and Top Grossing #34 | Same period, same size, same market. No visible product difference. |
| Whee (from TikTok) | 2026-04 | 8.25M | Friends-based social, free to use. Not the same category, but it sits on the same chart. |
There are also XaveLive, VivoLive, and Amigo, which are batches of near-identical apps from a single company, plus SOYO, BIBO, Oya, Taka, Tina Live, and others. MeetJoy isn't the first or the biggest. It belongs to the "same template, a new app every few months" group. The whole category works this way.
Where it falls short
The bad reviews focus on four things:
- Expensive: "coins drain too fast," "men spend heavily here," "it will bankrupt you."
- Fake profiles: "all the people are fake"; one Hindi review says the women here "are all service providers."
- Locked contact info: as noted above, this is deliberate, but it's also the top reason for one-star reviews.
- Safety: 10-27 Some users say a female host recorded the video call and then threatened to "post it on social media unless you pay." With enough complaints like this, Google delisting or demoting the app is a real risk.
If it were you
C: You can learn a complete playbook, but for indie devs and small teams, following it isn't worth the effort. The business does make money, and the template isn't hard to copy. The hard part is running a host roster, an agent commission system, and a continuous paid acquisition pipeline at the same time, while competing with dozens of going-global teams that have been at this for years, plus the ever-present risk of reports and removal.
Who it suits: teams already doing going-global social apps, with host agency resources or agent relationships in Southeast Asia or Africa; people who understand Meta paid acquisition and Google Play's review rules for social apps; those with cash to float host payouts and ad spend.
Who it doesn't suit: solo indie devs writing code alone; anyone who doesn't want to work near the grey line of paid companionship chat; anyone without a paid acquisition budget (organic reach here is nearly zero); anyone who cares about product reputation and long-term retention.
How to do it: If you do go for it, don't build "yet another app." Pick a market it hasn't entered, where competition is thinner:
- Switch markets: They're cloning region by region and have already reached the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Latin America, and Vietnam. For East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania), French-speaking West Africa, or Bangladesh, first check how many similar apps are in the top 30 of the local social Top Free chart, and only enter where there are few (inference: acquisition is cheaper in these places, but so is willingness to pay, so run the numbers first).
- Do what they do badly: verified real users, reporting and accountability, transparent pricing. Once these competitors get called out enough, there's room for "the one that doesn't scam you."
- Only copy the ads: Drop the companion chat and apply the creative approach of "one local brand per country + flag emoji + locals are waiting for you" to dating, language exchange, or local meetup products that don't depend on hosts.
How to acquire users: Male users can only be bought through Facebook and Reels ads, with creatives filmed per country. Female hosts are recruited through "earn money chatting from home" landing pages, Facebook groups, and YouTube tutorials, with agent commissions so they bring in others. When launching a new market, first see whether the app can climb the Top Free chart. Then check whether it climbs the Top Grossing chart within a week. If not, stop.
Time window: No clear window. This category was already crowded five years ago, and new apps enter every month, so timing matters little. If you do it, you need to know within six months whether a market can pay back.
What would mean we got this wrong: ① MeetJoy climbs to the top 30 of the Philippines Top Grossing chart while its Nigeria Top Free ranking holds, which would mean new apps still have real room to grow and cloning into new markets is worth more than it looks; ② conversely, if it drops out of Nigeria's social Top Free top 30 after December, or gets removed by Google, that means this "reskin and relaunch" approach only lasts a few months, and following it is even less worthwhile.

Why MeetJoy - Social Chat (com.metaztech.meetly) could get off the ground
Channel: Google Play | Developer: METAZ TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD. (Singapore) | Store launch: 2026-08-04 | Research day: 2026-11-06
Bottom line
MeetJoy isn't a new idea. It's a Singapore company (Metaz, which already has 13.8M installs with Chatta) taking the proven template of "men buy coins and pay female hosts for 1v1 chat / voice-video rooms," reskinning it, and targeting Nigeria and the Philippines specifically. It drives installs with country-tailored Facebook/Reels ads like "Naija Singles / Filipino girls are waiting for you," and brings over the host and agency supply system it already proved on Chatta. It works because of the playbook and the company's existing resources, not because the product stands out.

The company is registered in Singapore, incorporated 2022-08-10, UEN 202228001N, address 10 Anson Road (sources: companieshouse.sg, sgpgrid.com; Chatta privacy policy chatta.metaztech.com).
2. Competitors
The social charts in Nigeria and the Philippines (googleplay library 11-06) are almost all the same kind of product, paid chat / live video dating, and most come from Chinese teams going global:
- Established big players: Bigo Live (850M installs, 2016), Tango (390M, 2010), Chamet (78M, 2019), Poppo Live (48M, 2022), BuzzCast (37M, 2018), SUGO (81M, 2021), Litmatch (190M, 2019), the Timo family (FAST WALL), MateMet / Olamet.
- New builds in the same window: Minemo - Voice Chat & Friends (2026-09-11.6M, Nigeria Social Free #18, Grossing #34, almost the same size and market as MeetJoy), Timo Lite (2026-09-30.7M, +350k in a week, Philippines Social Free #9), XaveLive / VivoLive / Amigo (Insight-Innov matrix), Haflla's SOYO / BIBO / Oya, Taka / TakaLite, Tina Live.
- In-house: Chatta itself is Nigeria Social Free #10 and Philippines #24. MeetJoy is competing for the same users.
- Big tech: TikTok's Whee (2026-48.2M) is also on both charts.
- Local players: Meet9ja (Nigeria, 45k) and small local apps like CityBoy Elite.
Bottom line: this category is crowded. MeetJoy is not the first, and not the biggest. It belongs to the "same template, batch-launch new packages" group.
3. Growth tactics (evidence)
- Facebook / Reels install ads (confirmed): The Facebook Page "Meetjoy live chat" (id 61594142724698) keeps posting country-targeted short videos with "Free Download / Install now" buttons that go straight to Play's com.metaztech.meetly. Sample copy:
- "🇳🇬 Naija Singles Ready to Chat … plenty of single Nigerian ladies waiting for you in the live rooms" (2026-09-30,7.6K views)
- "🇳🇬 Find Love on Meetjoy app" (09-28, with Install now linking to Play)
- "🇵🇭 Meet someone ready to chat right now … plenty of open-minded girls waiting for you" (several posts)
- One Reel posted 2026-10-30, with 253k views and 541 reactions
The install button, the view counts and the lopsided engagement all point to paid distribution. Our metaads library does not track this Page, so the number of ads and the spend are unverified.
- Host / agency supply side (inferred from the Chatta master, only indirect evidence for MeetJoy): Chatta has a full agency recruiting system, including chattaapp.com and chattalive.site ("earn $2 a day as a host, withdraw at $10, commission on invites and sub-agents"), Philippine FB recruiting groups ("weekly agent bonus, up to 20% commission; hosts up to ₱5,000 a week"), and a Nigerian YouTube tutorial "Earn Naira Chatting". MeetJoy reviews also say: "after joining I discovered they even recruit ladies", "ladies pay nothing to chat", "withdrawal late", "token gayab ho gaya". Under another app's FB ad, someone commented "Bka meron din bayad tulad ng meetjoy" (does it pay out like meetjoy too). So the female host supply is likely pulled in by word of mouth that chatting earns money, plus agencies, and the hosts then bring in male users.
- Rating operations (suspected): 7 days of new ratings 3,465 against 157k new installs, so ratings are about 2.2% of installs, high for the chat category. Recent reviews are mostly short "good", "nice", "I love it" 5-star ratings, and the Nigeria reviews mix in Hindi and Tagalog ("बहुत सुंदर", "ang ganda", "Amarjeet paswan Officials"). This could be an in-app prompt for good reviews, or hosts gaming it. Unverified.
- TikTok / X / media / SEO: none found. A TikHub search for "meetjoy" only returns unrelated K-pop and Pixar content. x-radar shows 60 posts in the last 0 days. No press coverage. What's searchable is APK sites, AppBrain, Similarweb and Appfigures chart pages.
4. Why it took off
- Ready-made template, resource-driven: The master Chatta already has 13.8M installs and is Social Top Grossing #19 in Nigeria. Billing, anti-diversion (blocking number and social handle exchange) and host payouts are all off the shelf, so MeetJoy just needs a reskin and a new paid channel. Reviews complain a lot about "can't change number", which suggests the app deliberately keeps relationships inside it so coins keep getting spent.
- Where the money comes from: Male users buy coins, and messages, voice and video calls are charged per message or per minute ("14 coins per message"), with single purchases up to $284.99. Hosts take a revenue split and agencies take commissions. Nigeria Social Top Grossing #31~38 and Philippines climbing from #91 to #60 show people are paying, and that it is ramping.
- Market choice: Nigeria and the Philippines are cheap to acquire users in, speak English, and have a large pool of people who want to meet foreigners or the opposite sex, and people who want to earn money from home by chatting, so supply and demand are both cheap. Vietnam went from #176 to #34 in three days, showing it is being copied one storefront at a time.
- Localized creative: The ads use country flag emojis and shout "Naija Singles" and "Filipina girls", spelling out "local women are waiting for you".
5. Differentiation
At the product level there is almost nothing new: voice rooms, 1v1 video, coin billing, hosts, the same as Chatta, Chamet, Poppo and Minemo. Only two things really differ:
- A new package name and brand, which gets the cold-start boost of Play's "new apps" and a separate ASO slot.
- Country-specific creative and positioning (Chatta targets globally, MeetJoy leads with Nigeria / Philippines).
These two points are differences in execution, not in product. It takes off because of paid distribution plus ready-made host supply and a proven monetization template, not because it is different from the others.
6. How many people have seen it
Few people know about it yet. Revenue is not public, there is no press, and there is no discussion on X or TikTok. It only shows up on aggregator chart pages like Similarweb and Appfigures and on APK download sites. But the category itself is very homogeneous and crowded (Minemo, Timo Lite, the Insight-Innov and Haflla matrices, etc.), so this is not a blue ocean.
7. What to borrow
- Take a proven monetization master, batch-launch new packages by region, give each package a localized brand, and run flag-and-"local singles are waiting" creative.
- Work both sides of the market: pull female hosts in with agency and sub-agent splits for "chat to earn", pull male users in with paid ads, and block contact exchange to keep relationships inside the app.
- When you open a new storefront, check the free chart first, then whether the grossing chart climbs (that is what happened in Vietnam).
8. Still unclear
- Actual ad spend, number of live ads, CPI (metaads does not track this Page).
- Revenue scale: the grossing chart rank only shows people are paying. The bar for Nigeria's Social Grossing chart is low.
- Whether ratings were prompted or inflated, and retention (negative reviews cluster around "expensive, fake people, AI avatars, sextortion scams").
- Whether there is an iOS version: Metaz has Chatta and SeeTa on the App Store, MeetJoy not found.
- Compliance risk: reviews mention users being sextorted and hosts being fake, which risks removal or demotion by Google.
