# Get £128 just for walking in: MiniReels and the "watch short dramas to earn" ad business

**What it is** A free vertical short-drama app on Google Play that shows a cash balance the moment you open it, marked with PayPal withdrawal. It keeps you watching rewarded ads to chase that money. No in-app purchases; it earns only from ads.

**Why it took off** It copied the proven playbook of "free short dramas + fake cash balance," bought users in high-ad-rate countries like Italy, Germany and the US, shipped under aged developer accounts, and let ad revenue cover the acquisition cost.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the fake balance. Carry its reward loop and country-selection logic over to mini-games and quizzes, categories that already earn from rewarded video. Keep rewards small but actually cashable, and first prove payback in high-CPM, less crowded markets like Italy.

Grade C: the traction came from misleading withdrawal promises and rotating shell accounts. Packages decay within a few weeks, and this tier already has 266 packages this year, 56 of which passed a million. You can learn how to price rewarded ads from it, but copying it isn't worth it, and it carries takedown and account-ban risk. What's circulating in niche circles

MiniReels is a free vertical short-drama app on Google Play, launched in Oct 13, that passed 1M installs in 11 days. What it actually sells isn't the dramas. It's the balance at the top of the screen that keeps climbing but is hard to withdraw: you watch ad after ad chasing that money, and the developer earns from those ads. Below: how it rose, where the money comes from, why it's already declining, and which parts of this playbook are worth learning and which to avoid.

### A 880-person-upvoted one-star review

In Oct 2026 19, a user named Nisha M wrote on MiniReels' store page:

"This is a scam. Want to open the app? Ad. Want to switch from watching to check-in rewards? Ad. Switch from this episode to the next? Ad. Watch enough episodes to claim a reward? Ad. And ignore the amounts shown above: past a certain number, an ad only adds 1 cents, and only some ads do, so you have to watch hundreds of ads to…"

880 people marked it "helpful," making it the most upvoted review on its page (Google Play UK page, 11-06). The same day, Robert Villers wrote that he had built up $300 but must reach $600 to withdraw, and it's now stuck at $591, moving only $0.10 or $0.16 per ad. Three days earlier, Racheal Williamson wrote that "after $295, each claim only gives $1 cents."

These three reviews capture the app: users come for the money; the balance slows down the closer it gets to the withdrawal threshold; and every step in between is an ad.

### What it is

On the store page it's just an ordinary short-drama app: "We gather all the hot short dramas online," CEO-romance comebacks, sweet romance, palace intrigue, suspense, rebirth, revenge, 1–3 minutes per episode, "3 seconds to get hooked." No in-app purchases, labeled "contains ads" (Google Play store page).

Once you open it, it's different. A reviewer who tests earning apps, Oct 20, found that the balance appears at the top of the screen as soon as you enter, showing £128. Tapping it lets you choose PayPal withdrawal, with the highest tier at £2,500. On the right is a row of circular progress rings; filling one pays out a sum like £13.50, and tapping "Earn more" pops up an ad (myroomismyoffice.com). He saw pounds in the UK; US users in the reviews saw dollars, with amounts shown in local currency.

So, precisely: MiniReels is a rewarded-ad app wrapped in a short-drama shell. The dramas are the reason you stay; the balance is the reason you tap ads.

### How big it is and how fast it's growing

- **Traction** : launched 10-13, and the third-party chart AppInsider recorded it passing 1M installs 10-24, averaging about 90k a day.

- **Now** : 10-29 is 1.13M, 11-06 is 1.27M, a gain of 145k in 8 days, about 18k a day. That's roughly an 80% drop from the first 11 days (Google Play installs).

- **Rankings** : on the US entertainment Top Free chart it fell from #34 at 10-29 to #61 at 11-06. Italy has been its best market, #23 at 11-06. It also charted in Malaysia 29, Argentina 34, Germany 52, France 57, the UK 81 and Canada 95, 12 countries in all (Google Play charts, 11-06).

- **Ratings** : 5,651 in total, growing by about 150 a day, averaging 4.28 stars. The distribution is high at both ends and empty in the middle: 4,279 five-star, 861 one-star, 0 two-star. Only 388 reviews include text, under 7%. The large number of five-star ratings with no words looks like the app used rewards to prompt good reviews (inference, unverified).

An app three weeks past launch whose daily adds are only a fifth of its peak. This comes up again below.

### Where users come from

Almost all of it was bought. The reviewer above wrote that its promotion leaned on huge sign-up bonuses, a withdrawal from $20, and screenshots of payouts. I didn't verify whether it ran on Meta, TikTok, or ad networks like AppLovin, Unity or Mintegral. But every country it charted in is a high-CPM market like Italy, Germany, France, the US, the UK or Canada, which fits the "buy in high-CPM countries, pay back with rewarded ads" pattern (inference).

Almost no other channels. X had zero mentions in the past 30 days. Searching "minireels" on TikTok, the first 20 results were mostly clips from shows like ReelShort; the only relevant one was "#minireel is a scam," with 644 views. On YouTube there were a few "is it legit" reviews with views from 142 to 1,340, and one showed a $232.4 balance, but no evidence of real payouts. These are people who came in through ads asking each other questions, not content the app made itself.

### Where the money comes from

It has one path: ads. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions. Every "claim," "switch episode" or "earn a bit more" is an ad impression, and rewarded video pays the highest CPMs in the world in Europe and the US. The closer the balance gets to the threshold, the slower it grows, so users watch longer. Robert's line, "need $600 to withdraw, I'm stuck at $591," says exactly this.

Almost all the cost is user acquisition. By its own account the content "gathers hot short dramas online," most likely aggregated or re-uploaded. I haven't verified the rights situation.

### Who's behind it

The developer is listed as PixzCity. The store page's "About the developer" names an individual in the US, and the contact email is Gmail. This account previously published several mini-games (Cross The River, Jumping Robot, Feed The Zombie). In 2025 July it also shipped a to-do app with only 8 installs. In August it switched to the short-drama app TiDrama (AppInsider recorded 1M+). This October it published MiniReels. The site tiidrama.com is a template: the page title uses another name, ShortFlix, the copyright reads "© 2025 MobiSystems," and the privacy-policy link carries Alibaba Cloud console tracking parameters.

An old individual developer account moved from mini-games to short dramas, shipping two packages in a year, with a template website. This is the typical "buy or borrow an account to ship new packages" pattern: aged accounts clear review faster and are less likely to be flagged. Who actually runs it is unverified (from the Alibaba Cloud parameters, my guess is a team in China).

### Who it's competing with

It's a copycat itself.

| Competitors | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs from MiniReels |
|---|---|---|
| ReelShort | 307M installs, +5.51M in 7 days | Homemade live-action drama, coin unlocks + subscription, top 10 on Top Grossing |
| DramaBox | 307M, +2.92M in 7 days | Licensed paid short dramas, licensed content |
| FreeReels (Kunlun Tech) | 246M, +3.64M in 7 days | A big-company free short-drama app that also has coin rewards, but with legitimate content and branding |
| Melolo (ByteDance) | 147M, +2.9M in 7 days | Free short dramas with coin rewards, two orders of magnitude bigger in scale |
| MixReels | 14M, 7 days +740k | Nearly the same "watch dramas, withdraw via PayPal" model, started earlier and bigger |
| Halo Reels | 12.3M, +1.44M in 7 days | Same shell playbook, one brand split into three packages |
| CoinReel / Lucky Drama | 1.32M / 2.24M | "Earn money" written right in the name |

The real crowding is at this tier. Since May this year, entertainment apps with drama / reel / short in the name have launched 266 times, and 56 of them passed a million installs. 39 of them grew faster than MiniReels over the last 7 days (Google Play, 11-06). Developer names often have nothing to do with the product: a Vietnamese pharmaceutical company, a Haiphong architecture firm, a supplements brand called Nutri Plaza. These are shell accounts bought in bulk. Even the name "MiniReels" is shared by at least three or four short-drama apps.

### Where it actually wins, and why it's declining

Not in the product. The interface, content and reward mechanics are the same as dozens of sibling apps. It wins on three things:

1. **One bait solves both acquisition and monetization.** "Watch dramas to earn" has a high ad click-through rate, and once inside, users chase the balance and watch rewarded ads on their own.

2. **It only buys expensive countries.** Rewarded video in Europe and the US pays high CPMs, so one user who watches enough ads pays back. Italy's entertainment chart is less competitive, so a modest budget gets it into the top 30.

3. **Aged accounts ship new packages.** Faster review, and a package hit a million in 11 days.

It's declining, and the reason is written in the reviews: the promised money can't be withdrawn, the reputation quickly turns to "scam," payback gets worse, and the team moves its budget to the next package. A single package's lifespan looks like a few weeks. TiDrama launched last August, MiniReels took over this October, and the next one is probably already on the way (inference).

### If it were you

**Verdict** : you can learn a way of doing the math with "rewarded ads + high-CPM country acquisition," but it's not worth copying. The fake balance is what made it work, and it's also why it won't last. Over two hundred packages are already competing for the same users in this tier.

**Who it suits** : Android teams that already buy ads and have done rewarded-video monetization, looking to apply a reward loop to a product that actually pays out.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie developers wanting to build a short-drama app from scratch. Without a content source, a sustained acquisition budget and a rotation of shell accounts, you won't even reach the charts in this tier. And if you don't fake the balance, what's left is basically Melolo with more ads.

**How to do it** : take two things and leave out the third. First, the reward loop itself: a progress ring, claim rewards, double-up by watching one more ad. Use it in mini-games, quizzes or step counting, categories that already earn from rewarded video, with small but truly cashable rewards (gift cards, low-threshold withdrawals). Second, the eye for country selection: prove payback first in high-CPM, less crowded markets like Italy, then go to the US. What to leave out is the fake balance and an unreachable withdrawal threshold. Google Play has explicit rules against misleading rewards, and takedowns, bans and guilt-by-association are common.

**How to get users** : the old playbook for incentive apps. Game ad networks and Meta video creatives, with one line saying what you get for watching. The creatives have to show rewards people can actually get, or you end up like MiniReels, with 880 people liking a "this is a scam" post at the top of the store page three weeks later.

**Window** : no clear deadline. The window depends on when Google starts clearing out these watch-to-earn packs in bulk.

**Signs I've misread this** : ① Daily installs for packs like MiniReels or MixReels pick back up in November and the US ranking returns to the top 40. That would mean fake-reward packs last longer than they look, and this business pays back better than I think. ② Google takes down a batch of short-drama packs with Earn or Rewards in the name within a month or two. That would mean this path is closed. ③ A real, cash-out-able, low-threshold "watch dramas, get paid" app holds a spot on Western entertainment charts for over two months. That would mean the honest version of the reward loop also pencils out, and it's worth building seriously.

Where users come from

- Inferred **Paid acquisition (creatives show payout screenshots and signup bonuses)** : myroomismyoffice 2026-10-20 review: promoted with claims of huge signup bonuses, withdrawals of $20+, payment notifications. Charted countries cluster in IT/DE/FR/US/GB/CA, and balances display in pounds. I couldn't find the specific ad network in our Meta/TikTok ad libraries (it's not on our tracking list).

- **Confirmed** **Rewarded video and fake cash-reward loop in the app** : a £128 balance appears on entry, with PayPal withdrawals up to £2,500 shown. Claiming a reward or tapping Earn more both trigger ads (tested on myroomismyoffice). Google Play library shows ad_supported=True and no in-app purchases.

- **Verified** **old developer account recycled** : PixzCity used to be an indie game developer (Cross The River, etc.), 2025-07 had a to-do app charted (com.developersakib.smritilipi), 2025-08 published TiDrama, 2026-10 published MiniReels; the official site tiidrama.com is a template site (copyright reads MobiSystems)

- **Confirmed** **Long-tail search from "is it legit?" YouTube/TikTok reviews** : YouTube has Earn with Queen (1,340 views), Steady Grinding (564 views), LEGIT QUEEN (142 views). TikTok @bekiedawn posted #minireel is a scam

- Inferred **Store-search name squatting (MiniReels / Mini Reels name clash)** : there are same-named products like com.mini.reels.drama.shorts, minireels.tv, and MiniDrama. Meta AI's summary page says the name is shared by multiple apps

## MiniReels (com.minireels.app, PixzCity) research report

> Date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our googleplay library (daily since 2026-10-29), metaads / tiktokads libraries, Jina/Exa web search, TikHub, x-radar. Anything unverified is marked "unverified".

### One line

On the surface MiniReels is a vertical short-drama app. Its real pitch is "watch dramas, earn money": open it and you see a £128 balance, PayPal withdrawals up to £2,500, and it keeps you watching rewarded ads. On Google Play it **monetizes only through ads** (ad_supported=True, no in-app purchases). It took off by running the standard playbook of the wave of "free short drama + fake cash reward" clone apps in the second half of 2026: paid acquisition with creatives showing payout screenshots and signup bonuses, targeting high-CPM Western countries, with ad revenue paying back the spend. The product itself has no differentiation.

### 1. Data: how fast it grew

- Launched in stores on 2026-10-13 (googleplay library `app.released_store`; AppInsider records the same-day listing).

- AppInsider records it **crossing 1M installs on 2026-10-24** , meaning it hit one million installs 11 days after launch, averaging about 90k a day.

- Our library (googleplay `app_day`): from 10-29 to 1,128,793,11-06 to 1,273,446,8 days, installs grew by 144,653, averaging about 18k a day. **Compared with about 90k a day over the first 11 days, that's roughly an 80% drop** . Installs jump only every few days (10-31 +54k, 11-03 +54k, 11-05 +15k, 11-06 +21k).

- Ranking (googleplay `chart_rank`, free Entertainment chart): US went from #34 on 10-29 to #61 on 11-06. Italy has been its best, between #20 and #31. UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Canada have all been between #50 and #100. 10-29 also reached #159 on the US overall app chart. Today it's charted in 12 countries, mostly high-CPM Western markets, plus Malaysia, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.

- Ratings: 5,651 total, growing by about 150 a day; average 4.28. Star distribution [1★861, 2★0, 3★100, 4★402, 5★4279] is high at both ends with a hollow middle. acknosoft's count is "78% five-star, 17% one-star". Only 388 reviews (6.9%) include written text. A high share of star-only five-star ratings is possible sign of rewards-for-reviews prompts (unverified).

### 2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

**Category 1: licensed short-drama platforms** (pay-to-unlock or subscription, original or licensed content)

| Product | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| ReelShort(NewLeaf) | 2022-08 | 307M installs, +5.51M in 7 days, Top Grossing top 10 |
| DramaBox(StoryMatrix) | 2023-04 | 307M, +2.92M in 7 days |
| FreeReels / DramaWave(Skywork) | 2024 | 246M / 152M. FreeReels itself also offers watch-for-coins rewards |
| Melolo (POLIGON, ByteDance family) | 2024-11 | 147M, +2.9M in 7 days. On Facebook it's discussed as a "make money" app |
| PineDrama (official TikTok) | 2025-12 | 84M, +3M in 7 days (big-company feature) |

**Category 2: clone apps running the same playbook (MiniReels is in this group)**

- Entertainment apps launched after 2026-05-01 with drama / reel / short in the name: **266** in our library, of which **56 passed one million installs** , adding about 23M in total over 7 days. **39 of them have grown faster than MiniReels over the last 7 days** , so it's only mid-pack in this wave.

- Leaders by scale: Halo Reels (Nutri Plaza, 12.3M, plus Pro / Max clones), MixReels (Nathanwaltersdev, 14M, with a TikTok tutorial on withdrawing to PayPal), BlinkDrama, the ShortFly trio, and the Drama World trio.

- Names that say "earn" outright: CoinReel - Watch & Earn (1.32M), Lucky Drama - Shorts & Rewards (2.24M), NiceReels - Reel & Earn, CashDrama, FortuneDrama, ReelEarn.

- Developer names often have nothing to do with the product: "CENTRAL PHARMACEUTICAL CPC1 JSC", "HAIPHONG CONSTRUCTION DESIGN", "Nutri Plaza", "olexa Buy and Sell". Websites are mostly netlify, blogspot, or app-ads-txt subdomains. This suggests bulk-bought or borrowed developer accounts used to build a portfolio.

- Name collisions: "Mini Reels - Short Drama" (com.mini.reels.drama.shorts), minireels.tv, and MiniDrama (Moboreader). Meta AI's summary page on Facebook also says "the name Mini Reels is shared by several short-drama earning apps."

### 3. Growth tactics: where users come from

1. **Paid acquisition, creatives pushing "watch and earn" (third-party evidence; specific channels unverified)** : the myroomismyoffice.com 2026-10-20 review says it was "promoted with claims of huge signup bonuses, withdrawals of $20 or more, and impressive payment notifications". Charted countries cluster in IT/DE/FR/US/GB/CA, and the app shows balances in pounds, which fits buying traffic in high-CPM countries and paying back through ad revenue. Our Meta and TikTok (Europe) ad libraries show nothing: it's not on our tracking list, and a miss there doesn't mean it isn't advertising. Whether creatives run on Meta, TikTok, or game ad networks like AppLovin / Unity / Mintegral is **unverified** .

2. **In-app reward loop to drive retention and ad impressions** : a £128 balance on entry, a progress ring on the right, claiming a reward requires watching another ad, and "Earn more" also triggers ads (tested on myroomismyoffice). Typical for this type of app: high withdrawal thresholds or required referrals (unverified).

3. **Long-tail search from "is it legit?" review content (a side effect, not something it bought)** : YouTube has Earn with Queen (10-16,1,340 views), Steady Grinding (10-18,564 views), and LEGIT QUEEN (11-02,142 views, showing $232.4 balance). On TikTok, @bekiedawn posted "#minireel is a scam" (10-17). On Facebook, Meta AI's summary page "Is Mini Reels App Legit?" (15 people discussing). Volumes are small.

4. **Developer account is a recycled old one** : PixzCity was originally an individual indie game developer (Cross The River, Jumping Robot, Feed The Zombie). 2025-07 also published a to-do app with package name com.developersakib.smritilipi (8 installs). 2025-08 then switched to the short-drama app TiDrama (com.tidrama.app, AppInsider lists 1M+, rated 4.8), and 2026-10 then published MiniReels. The website tiidrama.com is a template: the page title says ShortFlix, the copyright reads "© 2025 MobiSystems", the "42M+ downloads" figure matches no known app, and the download button points to TiDrama. The developer email is gmail (ickymonia@gmail.com). Putting new packs on old accounts borrows account age and reputation, which helps avoid review holds.

5. Not seeing these channels: X (x-radar, 30 posts in the last 0 days), Reddit, HN, press coverage, celebrities. Popular #minireels videos on TikTok are mostly clips from shows like ReelShort, unrelated to it.

### 4. Why it took off

- **Timing** : short-drama going global is still the main category on Google Play's Entertainment chart in 2026 (ReelShort and DramaBox each add several million a week). Users have already been taught by big players what a "vertical short drama" is, so search and ad traffic is large.

- **The play:** Free to watch, plus a fake "drama cash" balance. This solves acquisition (ads convert well) and monetization (rewarded-video eCPM is high, especially in Western markets) at the same time. Most of the cost goes to paid acquisition. The content, per its description, is "gather all hit short dramas online," which most likely means aggregated or scraped (licensing unverified).

- **Mass-produced:** The same play shows up as dozens or hundreds of packages on Play, with names and developer accounts rotated. MiniReels is the second short-drama package from the PixzCity account. Individual packages seem short-lived: one hit a million installs 11 days after launch, then three weeks later daily installs had dropped to about a fifth of that, and its US chart rank kept sliding.

### 5. Differentiation

**No product-level differentiation.** Content, UI, and copy are nearly identical to the other clone apps from the same batch, and the reward mechanics are standard for the category (MixReels, CoinReel, and Lucky Drama all do it). Compared with ReelShort or DramaBox, its only "difference" is being completely free plus the fake cash bait. That is part of why it worked, but anyone can copy it, and it isn't the first to do so. What decides success is the paid-acquisition creative, country selection, and whether ad monetization covers CPI, not the product itself.

### 6. How visible it is

- Revenue isn't public. No media outlet or big X account has covered it, and it hasn't appeared on TrustMRR.

- It's only been discussed in a small "make money with apps" circle, where it's treated as a suspected scam (a few hundred to over a thousand YouTube views, and 1 blog posts).

- The model is already crowded: 266 similar new packages in the past six months.

### 7. What others can learn

- The pipeline of "paid acquisition in high-CPM countries + rewarded-video monetization + quickly launching packages from old developer accounts" can indeed reach a million installs in about 10 days. But individual packages are short-lived, and there is policy risk: Google Play penalizes misleading rewards and scraped content (delisting, account bans).

- The legitimate parts are worth learning: ad monetization for free short dramas, reaching the top 30 of the entertainment chart in less-competitive high-CPM countries like Italy, and using older accounts to reduce review risk.

- The parts not worth copying: fake balances and promises of withdrawals mislead users, and a "scam" label has already appeared in reviews.

### 8. Uncertain

- Which paid channels are used, the CPI, and whether ad monetization pays back (no ROI data).

- Whether users can actually withdraw (YouTubers have posted screenshots of balances, but no evidence of real payouts).

- Whether the content is licensed, AI-generated, or scraped.

- Whether the high ratings were solicited.

- Whether TiDrama (2025-08) is still running ads or has been delisted.
