# A bookkeeping app called "Daily Loan" that doesn't lend, hit 1.6M installs in three weeks

**What it is** An ordinary offline expense tracker on Google Play, free, earning from interstitial ads, but titled "Daily Loan" and stating in its own listing that it doesn't lend money.

**Why it took off** Real lending apps keep getting pulled from stores in India, Nigeria and elsewhere, so people searching "loan" find nothing. It catches those searches with a title containing "Loan" and also rides on a same-named predecessor that India had just pulled in October and that had 2.3M installs; a sibling built from the same template on the same day, without "Loan" in the title, gets a few dozen to a quarter of its installs.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the misleading title. Copy the idea: find search terms where demand still exists but legitimate supply is blocked by policy, then build a tool that actually delivers on the term (say, a local-language loan repayment reminder or a monthly payment calculator). Test it on a small budget in the East and West African countries where it ranks highest, to see if it pays back.

Grade C: the play relies on a misleading title and a batch of purchased developer accounts to survive bans, and the predecessor was pulled after 9 months. Finance on Play already has many of these matrices. Indie devs who follow it can't get the account matrix, and an honest version may not capture this term's traffic, so the lesson is the idea, not the copy. Few people know about it yet

Daily Loan - Money Tracker is an utterly ordinary expense-tracking template on Google Play: log a spend, pick a category, look at a pie chart. It launched in Oct 14, reached 6M installs by Nov 1.6, charted in 134 countries, and its best rankings were in Sierra Leone, Uganda and The Gambia. It took off with almost no product credit. The whole thing rode on two words in the title, "Daily Loan": in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, many people search "loan," and fewer and fewer lending apps are able to list. Below: what it is, where the traffic comes from, where the money comes from, who else is doing the same thing, and whether you should copy it.

### A five-star review with 2,663 people marking it helpful

Oct 15 2026, the second day after launch, a user named John ak Dong left a five-star review:

> efficient easy to install in a minute I am first time usesing this loan application.

"Efficient, installed in a minute, my first time using this **loan app** ."

By Nov 6, that review had 2,663 "helpful" votes and was the top review on the app's store page (Google Play, 11-06). But the app doesn't lend money. The last paragraph of its store description says so itself:

> The app does not offer loans, credit, cash advances, banking services, or real money transfers.

"This application does not provide loans, credit, cash advances, banking services or real money transfers."

That sentence is for Google's reviewers. The title is for the search box. Users only saw the title.

### What it is

Open it and you get a ledger: tap to record "money spent" or "money received," pick a category (food, transport, groceries, utilities, rent), add a note, and view reports by category and time. Data is stored locally on the phone, with no bank link. Free, labeled "contains ads," no in-app purchases; the privacy page says it uses Google AdMob. Version 1.0.2, and it has never had an update since launch.

There are hundreds of expense-tracker templates like this on Play, and it has no feature that others lack. Its privacy policy is even a generic multi-app template listing cameras, microphones and health sensors, none of which an expense ledger needs.

### How fast it grew

| Date | Total installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 14 | Launched | |
| Oct 29 | 1.38M | 2,393 |
| Nov 3 | 1.54M | 2,809 |
| Nov 6 | 1.6M | 3,055 |

Over the first 15 days it averaged about 90K installs a day; the last 7 days added 220K, about 30K a day, and it is slowing (Google Play install counts, 11-06).

Its chart rankings are almost all in low-income countries. Per the third-party chart tracker AppWinners, in Nov 6 it appeared on charts in 134 countries and 138 charts. Its best Finance Top Free ranks were #8 in Sierra Leone, #10 in Uganda, #12 in Gambia, #14 in Rwanda and Somalia, and #17 in Ethiopia. In Uganda, Gambia and Ethiopia it also made the overall app charts (#102, #136, #149). In a Nov 5 snapshot, it at one point held a Finance #1 spot in 7 countries. Among big markets, its best rank was #42 on the India Finance Top Free chart, which was its best 11-06 result. In the US it dropped from #127 out of the top 200.

The ratings are also odd: of 3,055 ratings only 23 have text, 74% of them are 5-star, and the store shows 4.4 stars. An app that everyone complains about for ads sitting at 4.4 stars most likely means the app prompts users to rate it (inferred).

### Where users come from: three things stacked together

**First, the title catches lending-search traffic.** This is confirmed. The top review on the store page is the evidence. Another app in the same category has the package name `com.loan.payday.advance.instant` ("payday loan · instant") but is titled Money Manager (230K installs), and "Money Saver - Loan Tracker" (2.65M installs) targets the same word.

Why is the word "loan" open? Because real lending apps are getting harder to list. Nigeria's government has published rounds of illegal loan apps it pulled from stores; India has been steadily cleaning out fake loan apps (India Today 2026-08 still runs guides on how to spot them). People searching "loan" haven't gone away, but the legitimate apps that could serve them are fewer. An expense ledger that doesn't lend and says "does not provide loans" can pass review and still show up in search results. "Daily Loan" was also the name of a high-interest lending app in India that drew many complaints 2022 years ago, so the term still carries residual search volume.

**Second, it catches a same-named predecessor that just disappeared.** In Jan 21, another account listed an identically named "Daily Loan - Money Tracker" that got about 2.3M installs, then vanished from Play in October (AppBrain logs; 11-06 opening its store page gives 404). In Oct 14, this one came out with the same name and the same positioning. The predecessor's developer name was a US prosthetics company, which marks it as a bought account. Whether the two are the same people can't be verified: developer names and emails differ, but the playbook is identical.

**Third, launch five at once and see which one runs.** On Oct 14 and 15, five developer accounts each published a nearly identical expense app. The package names were the same set of words in different orders, and the privacy pages were auto-generated Cloudflare Pages URLs in the "adjective-noun-number" format:

| Developer account | Has "Loan" in the title | Installs (11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| Abdo M (the subject of this article) | Yes | 1.6M |
| SLOW DOWN APP GAMES | None | 370k |
| Jerome Levesque | None | 220k |
| AQUINO TOWING | None | 110k |
| GINA SPANO | None | 29k |

Same day, same template: the one with "Loan" got 4 to 55 times the installs of the others. This table is more direct than any explanation: the difference is that word in the title.

The developer names are all over the place (a towing company, personal names, game studios), and they are simultaneously pushing same-named pedometers, app lockers and WhatsApp sticker packs. The three Abdo M apps all use this template, totaling 3.07M installs. The accounts are bought or rented; if one is banned, the others keep running.

**Is it paying for acquisition?** No direct evidence. But two weeks after launch it was pulling 90k a day, 130 countries rising at once, with low-priced stores making up most of it. That shape looks a lot like running Google App Ads in cheap countries and paying it back with ad revenue (inference). No one on TikTok or X is talking about it, and no media has covered it. The volume didn't come from content.

### Where the money comes from: the first few opens of each new user

It doesn't depend on retention. The second and third top reviews on the store page complain about ads:

> so many ads and especially site jump I ng so confused and pop u ps galore!

"Too many ads, and it jumps to a website, pop-ups everywhere!" (EARL ELIJAH MOFFET, 10-16,1,284 people found it helpful)

> very useless app with many adds, I really got annoyed whenever I clicked on something an add pops on

"So many ads you can't use it, tap anywhere and an ad pops up." (Xara Adonis, 10-19,854 people found it helpful)

A Spanish-language review site writing about its now-pulled predecessor also said that nearly every action triggers a full-screen ad. So the business model is simple: someone thinks it's a loan app, installs it, opens it a few times, sees an interstitial or two each time, realizes it's not a loan app, and uninstalls. The money is in those few opens. "Loan" is worth more than "budget" also because people looking to borrow are the audience financial advertisers in ad networks are willing to pay a premium for (inferred).

How much it earns can't be seen from outside. Third parties only estimate in-app purchases (it has none), and ad revenue has no public figures.

### Who it's competing with

| Who | Scale (11-06) | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Money Manager (Realbyte), Monefy, Wallet, Money Lover | 8.8M–23M installs, over a decade or more | Real expense-tracking products that run on word of mouth and subscriptions. They aren't in the same lane: they compete for people who track expenses, while this one competes for people who want to borrow money. |
| The delisted same-named predecessor | About 2.3M, pulled in October | Its forerunner; the same playbook lasted about 9 months |
| Money Saver - Loan Tracker | 2.65M | Another group stuffing "Loan" into expense-tracker titles |
| Another expense-tracker matrix (Smart Saver, Daily Money Manager, etc.) | 1M–1.6M each | The same template at scale, without the word loan |
| Licensed lending apps in each country | — | What users actually want |

"How crowded is it?" needs two answers. Few people know about it: no public revenue, no media coverage, no discussion on X, only auto-generated ranking pages and SEO articles asking "is Daily Loan a scam?" But many people are doing this: on Play's finance category, "expense tracker shell + lending keyword + small-account matrix" is already an established trade, and this app is simply the latest to inherit it.

### If it were you

**C. Understand it, don't copy it.** It proves one useful thing: in Play's low-price regions, a high-intent search term whose legitimate supply is blocked by policy can get a zero-feature template to 1.6M installs in three weeks. But the method itself, a "Loan" title on a bookkeeping app, violates Play's metadata policy. It relies on bought developer accounts to absorb bans, and its predecessor was gone after 9 months.

**Who it fits** : teams already monetizing utility apps on Play, with several developer accounts, who can live with accounts getting banned at any time. For them it's a known play, not a new opportunity.

**Who it doesn't fit** : solo indie devs with one developer account (one ban and every app under it goes with it); anyone building a long-term product that needs retention and word of mouth; anyone unwilling to do things that mislead users.

**How to do it (if you want to learn from it, learn the idea, not the title)** : find a term where demand persists but legitimate supply is blocked by policy. Loans is one, others share the same structure. Then build a **truthfully named** tool that catches that term: a real loan repayment reminder, EMI calculator, or loan log. Titling it "Loan Tracker" or "EMI Calculator" is honest and still shows up for "loan" searches. The cost: EMI calculators are already crowded in India, so you compete on localization (local languages and currencies in Africa and the Middle East) and on spending half as much on ads.

**How to get users** : mainly Play Store search, with title and description written around honest loan-related wording. Start with one or two countries where it ranks highest but no local-language version exists (East Africa, West Africa). Test cost per install for a week with a small Google App Campaigns budget, then compare it against interstitial ad revenue to see whether it pays back (inference).

**Deadline** : no clear seasonal window. The real deadline is policy: the next time Google or national regulators clean out loan-misleading apps, this batch goes down together.

**Signs you've misread it** : ① this app and its sibling packages stay up and installs keep climbing over the next two to three months, meaning Play is looser on these titles than expected and the window is longer than you assumed; ② conversely, if your honest "Loan Tracker" can't rank in the top 30 for "loan" in the same country, the traffic for that term is mostly captured by misleading titles and honest versions can't break in; ③ if its ad revenue is ever disclosed and falls well below acquisition cost, the matrix is paying to hold a spot.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Play Store search, loan keyword hijacking** : the title Daily Loan has nothing to do with the product, and the description states it doesn't lend. The most-upvoted review (2,658 upvotes) says "first time using this loan application". Same-family package com.loan.payday.advance.instant is a bookkeeping shell

- Inference **Brand search from taking over a same-name predecessor that was delisted** : the old same-name package com.analytics.finance.manager.money.app had 2.3M installs, and AppBrain shows 2026-10 delisted; this app listed under the same name 10-14

- **Verified** **Multi-developer-account matrix flooding** : the library has 5 identical template packages (package names built from the same words, privacy pages all auto-named *.pages.dev); 10-14/15 were listed from different accounts. The same accounts also push same-name pedometer and sticker apps

- Inference **Paid acquisition (Google UAC/Meta)** : 130+ countries with low prices ramped at once, 90k/day in the first two weeks, consistent with paid spend. Our ad library didn't track it, and Peekly's summary mentioning Meta Ads wasn't readable

- Inference **Prompted ratings** : 3,055 ratings with only 23 written reviews, 5 stars at 74%

## Why Daily Loan - Money Tracker (com.money.expense.tracker.budget.finance.save) can run

> Channel: Google Play / Finance / developer "Abdo M" / 2026-10-14 listed / free, with ads, no IAP. Research date 2026-11-06. Sources: our googleplay library ("the library" below), Play store pages, AppWinners, AppGazers, Exa / Jina search results.

### Bottom line

This isn't a bookkeeping app that succeeded on its product. It's a **"loan-word disguise package"** : the product is an ordinary local bookkeeping template, but the title is "Daily Loan", which rides on Play searches for "loan / daily loan" from users in emerging markets (India, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia). Users think it's a lending app and install it, and it monetizes through interstitial ads (AdMob). It sits in a **small-account matrix** : the same templates, the same Cloudflare Pages privacy pages, and at least 5 nearly identical bookkeeping apps listed from different "developer accounts" around the same days. The earlier generation, "Daily Loan - Money Tracker" (another account, listed 2026-01, 2.3M installs), 2026-10 just disappeared from Play, and this one 10-14 took its place.

### 1. Data (how fast it grew)

| Date | Cumulative installs (library) | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-14 | 0 | — | Listed (Play shows Updated on Oct 14, 2026; version 1.0.2 not updated since) |
| 2026-10-29 | 1,382,383 | 2,393 | 15 days listed ≈ 92k/day |
| 2026-11-03 | 1,543,862 | 2,809 | |
| 2026-11-06 | 1,601,966 | 3,055 | 7 days +219,583 (≈31k/day, slowing) |

- Charts (library, 30 stores): 10-29 made it into the Finance Top Free charts of 18 stores (best in Nigeria 52, South Africa 54), then 11-06 is down to 12 stores, best in India 42; the US dropped from 127 to 200. AppWinners tracks all 195 stores: 11-06 charted across 134 countries and 138 charts, best Finance Top Free #8 in Sierra Leone, #10 in Uganda, #12 in Gambia, #14 in Rwanda/Somalia, #17 in Ethiopia; it also charted in the **overall Top Free** of Uganda, Gambia and Ethiopia (#102/#136/#149); best ever: "Finance #1 in 7 countries" (AppWinners snapshot 11-05). → The traffic is in low-ticket markets: Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.

- Abnormal rating structure: only 23 of 3,055 ratings have written reviews (library app_snap.written_reviews); ratings/installs ≈ 0.19%; 5 stars at 74%, 1 stars at 9% with 1-star ratings rising (184→277). Looks like in-app prompts asking for a rating, not natural reviews.

- Monetization: Play labels it "Contains ads", no IAP (library offers_iap=False); the privacy page names Google AdMob. AppGazers / Peekly estimate IAP revenue below $5k/month (IAP only, excluding ads).

### 2. Where users come from (growth levers)

1. **Store search + loan keyword hijacking (confirmed)** : The title "Daily Loan" has nothing to do with the product (the description ends with "This app does not provide loans, credit, or cash advances" — a line written to pass Google's financial services policy review). The top Play review (2,658 people found it helpful) says "I am first time using this **loan application** " — users installed it thinking it was a lending app. Within the same package family there's also `com.loan.payday.advance.instant` (the package name is "payday loan", but the title is Money Manager, by BUSSID STUDIO, 230k installs), "Money Saver - Loan Tracker" (2.65M), "Loan Payment Tracker" and others, all targeting the same word. Background: governments in India, Nigeria, the Philippines and others, along with Google, have been steadily delisting non-compliant loan apps in recent years (see nairacompare.ng's Nigerian takedown list and India Today's 2026-08 coverage of fake loan apps). Search demand for "loan" persists, while genuine lending apps are getting harder to list, so "non-lending tools with loan in the name" became an empty slot: they pass review and still catch search traffic. "Daily Loan" itself is the name of a notorious 2022 Indian loan-shark app (2022 year of complaints per consumercomplaintscourt.com), so the brand term still carries residual search volume.

2. **Likely takeover of the same-name predecessor** : the same-name app `com.analytics.finance.manager.money.app` (developer SUMMIT CITY PROSTHETICS & ORTHOTICS, INC., the name of a prosthetics company, clearly a purchased account; privacy page on netlify, contact hannouch.said@gmail.com) was listed 2026-01-21, has 2.3M installs, and Sensor Tower showed it at #14 in Pakistan's Finance chart (2025-12). AppBrain shows it 2026-10 delisted. This app listed 10-14 under the same name and positioning, capturing the search term "daily loan money tracker" (a Jina search for this term still shows the old package's store page at the top). Whether it's the same operator is unverified (different developers and emails, but both have Arabic-style names and the same templated structure).

3. **Small-account matrix spam (confirmed)** : The store has sibling apps built from the same template. Package names are permutations of money/expense/tracker/budget/finance/save, and each privacy page is an auto-generated Cloudflare Pages site named "adjective-noun-number.pages.dev": | Package name | Developer account | Listed | Installs (11-06) | Privacy page | |---|---|---|---|---| | com.money.expense.tracker.budget.finance.save (this app) | Abdo M | 10-14 | 1.6M | lingering-shape-18.pages.dev | | com.money.expense.save.finance.tracker.budget | Jerome Levesque | 10-14 | 220K | divine-thunder-63.pages.dev | | com.money.saver.tracker.budget.planner.expense.manager | AQUINO TOWING | 10-14 | 110K | long-bird-70.pages.dev | | com.money.tracker.budget.planner.expense.manager.saver | SLOW DOWN APP GAMES | 10-15 | 370K (7 days, +360K) | nameless-resonance-14.pages.dev | | com.money.tracker.saver.expense.manager.budget.planner | GINA SPANO | 10-15 | 29K | green-pond-42.pages.dev | The same accounts are also pumping out "Step Counter - Daily Walker" (Abdo M's August version, 1.25M installs; AQUINO TOWING and GINA SPANO each put out a same-named copy, 10-22), WhatsApp couple stickers, and more. Abdo M's account has 3 apps, all on this template (step counters, app locks, and this one), for 3.07M installs combined. The account names are all over the place (towing company, personal names, game studio), which is the classic sign of bought or rented account matrices: when one gets taken down, the rest keep running.

4. **Paid acquisition (unconfirmed)** : Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries don't track these packages (the libraries only cover products on our list, so no results doesn't mean no ads). Peekly's page summary mentions "Meta Ads", but the page was rate-limited and we couldn't read it. The first two weeks after listing ran ~90k/day, across 130+ countries, mostly low-price regions. That fits the pattern of "Google App Campaign running volume in low-price regions, with ad monetization covering the cost," but there's no direct evidence.

5. **Content / creators / media: none** . X (x-radar) has zero mentions. TikTok searches for "daily loan app" turn up no relevant videos. The only coverage is a Hindi YouTube review, "Daily Loan App Real Or Fake," and a Spanish article, "Is Daily Loan a scam?", which is about an older package.

### 3. Why people stay or pay

Most people don't stay and don't pay. Reviews: "So many ads, every tap shows an ad" (849 likes), "Too many ads, it even jumps to websites, pop-ups everywhere" (1,283 likes). A Spanish review site describes the predecessor: nearly every action triggers a full-screen ad. The money comes from **interstitial and app-open ads shown to each new install during its first few launches** , not from retention. Users with borrowing intent are high-eCPM audiences on ad networks (lending advertisers bid high), which is why the word "loan" is worth more than "budget."

### 4. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (library, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Money Manager Expense & Budget(Realbyte) | Android/iOS | 2013 | 23.2M installs | Real expense-tracking products rely on word of mouth and subscriptions. This app doesn't compete on features; it competes on the word "Loan" in its title. |
| Monefy / Wallet(BudgetBakers)/ Money Lover | Android/iOS | 2011–2014 | 8.8M–13.5M | Same as above: an established expense tracker with in-app purchases / subscriptions. |
| Daily Loan - Money Tracker (the older package, SUMMIT CITY…) | Android | 2026-01-21 | 2.32M, 2026-10 delisted | Same-named predecessor, same playbook. This app is its successor after it was delisted. |
| Money Saver - Loan Tracker(114992856) | Android | 2025-12 | 2.65M | Also stuffs "Loan" into an expense tracker's title. |
| Smart Saver Money Manager(KimoBoy)/ Daily Money Manager(EVGO I)/ Money Tracker & Wallet(Shin Keuk) | Android | 2026-06~07 | 1.6M / 1.11M / 1.01M | Another matrix (privacy page tr270m*.vercel.app), same-template expense tracker with no "loan" in the name; 7 days of growth 12–300k |
| Sibling packages on the same template (Jerome Levesque, AQUINO TOWING, SLOW DOWN APP GAMES, GINA SPANO) | Android | 2026-10-14/15 | 30k–370k | Same operator. The ones without "Loan" in the name are clearly slower (except SLOW DOWN, which recently picked up speed). Indirect evidence that the "Loan" keyword is the main differentiator. |
| Real lending apps (MoMo PSB, CashFlex PH, licensed loan apps in various countries) | Android | — | — | What users actually want. This app siphons off their search. |
| Big-tech features: Google Pay, Paytm, and bank apps already include expense records. | Big-company features | — | — | Automatic expense tracking, but it never shows up in "loan" search results. |

### 5. What's the differentiation, and is it why this took off?

The product itself has **no differentiation** (local expense tracking + categories + charts, which every template has). The privacy page is even a generic multi-app template that lists camera, microphone, and health sensor permissions. The only real "differences" are at the distribution layer: ① the "Daily Loan" in the title captures lending search traffic and inherits search terms from the predecessor with the same name; ② multiple purchased developer accounts publish the same template at once, spreading out delisting risk. Those two are why it took off. Sibling packages listed the same day without "Loan" in the name get only 1/4–1/15 of its installs.

### 6. How many people have seen it

Hardly anyone knows about it yet: no public revenue figures, no coverage from media or X accounts. There are only auto-generated ranking pages like AppWinners, AppGazers, and Peekly, plus SEO sites that write "Is XX app a scam?" (about the old package). But "copycats" are already plentiful. It is itself one of them, and this playbook is already crowded with matrices in Play's finance category.

### 7. What's worth borrowing

- On Play's low-price regions: pair a high-intent keyword with a compliance shell. Use words users search with strong intent but where the real service is restricted by policy (loan, VPN, downloader, etc.), build a tool shell that passes review, catch the search traffic, and monetize with ads.

- Same-name successor: after the predecessor was delisted, republish under the same name with a new package and new account to catch leftover brand searches.

- Multi-account, same-template volume plus auto-generated pages.dev privacy pages, to reduce losses when a single account gets banned.

- Note: this is a gray-area playbook. Misleading titles violate Google Play metadata policy, and accounts can be banned at any time (the predecessor was gone after 9 months). The user experience is very poor. It's useful for understanding the mechanics, not as a long-term business.

### VIII. Unknowns

- Whether there is paid acquisition and where it's bought (UAC / Meta) is unverified. Whether installs are partly from incentives or fake installs is unverified (the abnormal ratio of ratings to text reviews is only a suspicion).

- Whether this is the same operator as the older package is unverified.

- Ad revenue is unknown (AppGazers / Peekly only estimate in-app purchases).

- Whether the app uses remote config to switch to a loan H5 / redirect page inside the app is unverified (the "site jump" reviews are a lead, not proof). We haven't installed the package to check.
