Can't use SketchUp? You can still make wardrobe plans: a Latin American woodworking creator turned the plans they sell into a subscription app
What it is A furniture design tool for Spanish-speaking woodworking and DIY: pick a ready-made cabinet plan, change the dimensions, and it automatically works out how big each board is, how much edge banding and how many hardware sets you need, and how to cut the sheet.
Why it took off The person behind it is a top Spanish-language woodworking creator who posts constantly about "making plans without SketchUp." One 950k-view video drove the fastest growth days since launch, and the app store listing also solved the problem of Latin American users' cards being declined at checkout.
BHow you could approach it Find a woodworking creator in a non-Spanish flat-pack furniture market (Indonesia, Turkey, Arabic-speaking, Vietnam). Partner with them or become the creator yourself. Build a parametric cabinet library with local board-size specs and cut lists, then film "X vs SketchUp" and "how much you save building it yourself" videos, and collect through in-app weekly subscriptions.

Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
The TikTok account "el carpintero perfecto" has 219k followers in Spanish. It used to make money selling wardrobe and kitchen cabinet drawings and drafting plans for clients. This year it turned those drawings into a 3D tool where you pick a cabinet, change width, height and depth, and it calculates the board list, edge banding length, hardware and cut layout automatically. The Google Play version launched in Aug 30, and after just over two months it has around 19k installs. There's no sign of paid ads; it runs on the creator posting almost daily. Here's what it sells, where users come from, how it collects money, and whether you can copy it.
A video with 950k views
On Oct 4, @elcarpinteroperfecto posted a video titled "Como hacer un plano de closet sin tener experiencia ni utilizar SketchUp": how to draw a wardrobe plan with no experience and without SketchUp. It showed using a ready-made wardrobe template in MuebleMio, changing the dimensions, and getting the panel sizes directly, with no modeling. By Nov 6, the video had 956k views, nearly 40k likes and 647 comments.
The comments split into two camps. The most-liked one (385 likes): "I'm not a carpenter, but there's no need to belittle a craft someone has spent years on." The other side was doing the math: "I built a 2-meter L-shaped desk. The shop wanted $300 for it, and I spent $140 doing it myself." Many more asked the same thing: "Where do you get the boards cut?" "I'm in Brazil, where do I get this cut?" Dozens of comments just said "mueble mio", which looks like people asking for the link the video pointed to (inferred).
In the days after this video, from Oct 5 to 8, MuebleMio's Google Play installs rose from about 6,200 to about 8,000, averaging roughly 900 a day. That was its fastest stretch since launch (third-party install estimates).
What it actually is
Open the app or the web version at mueblemio.com and you get a furniture template library: wardrobes, kitchen wall cabinets, drawer units, shoe cabinets, desks, bookshelves. Pick one and change width, height, depth, panel thickness, number of drawers and shelves. The 3D model updates with each change, and it calculates:
- the size of each board ("despiece" or "desglose" in Spanish, "cut list" in English);
- how many meters of edge banding and how many sets of hinges and slides are needed;
- the most efficient way to lay out the cuts on a full sheet (cut optimization);
- a 3D link and a PDF quote you can send to a client.
The most important line in the store listing: "Every template is already engineered correctly, so you don't need to understand furniture construction." It directly supports the video's promise: you can produce plans without knowing how to model.
The creator is the person behind it. The contact email on Google Play is [email protected], the App Store seller name is Alexander Hurtado, and the TikTok profile links directly to mueblemio.com.
How it went from selling drawings to selling subscriptions
The app didn't appear out of nowhere. It's the third step of his business:
- First, selling drawings. On Instagram (@alexanderjhg, 140k followers) he sold access to a private community where he posted three furniture drawings with dimensions and SketchUp files every day. His TikTok bio said "custom drawing services."
- Then, a web tool. From Jul 28, his TikTok started showing tutorials for the MuebleMio editor (before it was in any store). In Aug 12, a video on "essential tools for making melamine furniture" got 860k views, and its tags included #mueblemio.
- Finally, the app stores. The Play version launched in Aug 30, and the iOS version in Oct 18.
A drawing can only be sold once. A drawing you can resize freely can earn money every week. He turned a content business into a tool business without changing his audience.
Where users come from: his own account, posting almost every day
Over the past two months he has posted MuebleMio tutorials almost every day, sometimes several a day. The jumps in views and installs line up (TikTok data 11-06; install numbers are third-party estimates):
| Date | Video | Views |
|---|---|---|
| 09-02 | "Don't let anyone tell you melamine furniture is hard" | 387k |
| 09-12 | "DIY it yourself, the tools are enough, you can build wardrobes and kitchens" | 201k |
| 10-04 | "Draw a wardrobe plan with no experience and no SketchUp" | 956k |
| 10-10 to 10-12 | 8 videos in three days: wall cabinets, drawer units, desks, L-shaped corner brackets | 0.5–44k per video |
| 10-25 | "The viral melamine wardrobe, how to draw it and size it" | 176k |
The approach is consistent, with three video types in rotation:
- "X vs SketchUp": on Oct 6 he posted 7 in a single day covering cut lists, edge banding calculations, animations and scaling components, each comparing one feature;
- "How to change a cabinet with parameters": drawer height, plinths, door gaps, one parameter per video;
- "Building it yourself is cheaper than hiring a carpenter": the newest one (11-04) is captioned "I won't pay a carpenter to swing a hammer for me, build it yourself with MuebleMio."
Provocative lines like this draw hate, but hate also means views. He cross-posts the same content to Instagram and YouTube (@CarpinteroPerfecto, 12.3k subscribers). I found no evidence he's running paid ads, and nobody on X is discussing the app.
Where the money comes from: the app is built to collect from Latin American users
The pricing page headline reads "Land one job and this week's money is back":
| Tier | Pricing | Item |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Basic template library, cut optimization up to 30 boards |
| PRO weekly | $3.99 / week | All templates, 3D editor, unlimited cut layouts, PDF quotes, inventory, assembly drawings |
| PRO monthly | $9.99 / month | Same as above |
On Play it's monthly or yearly billing, with a 3-day trial, and one-off in-app purchases from $7.99–19.99.
A line below the pricing shows the real reason: "Can't use your card? Upgrade to PRO inside the app with the same account. It works on web, Android and iPhone." Comments already include a user in Peru asking, "I'm in Peru and subscriptions keep getting declined, how do I pay?" Many people in Latin America don't have cards that work on overseas sites, while Google Play and the App Store can bill through local payment methods and phone credit. Launching in app stores is mainly a way to get past the payment barrier (inferred from the pricing page text and the comments).
Actual revenue isn't visible. It ranks #25 in the Furniture category on Google Play Free in Mexico and #64 in Argentina. On the Top Grossing charts, it sits at #68–#72 across more than a dozen stores including India, Mexico, South Africa and Vietnam, with nearly identical positions. That looks like the same aggregated chart, and it only shows that some people are buying in-app. It doesn't show scale. The website lists "4.5 stars, 1,294 reviews," collected on the site itself, with many entries like "1" and "dgasf", so it's not much of a signal.
Who it's competing with
Cut-list calculators are already a red ocean, and most are free. 3D furniture design apps include established ones with millions of installs. MuebleMio is aiming at the gap in the middle:
| Product | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| SketchUp + cut-list plugins | The de facto standard in Latin American woodworking (desktop) | Modeling from scratch is hard to learn; MuebleMio's videos are all aimed at this |
| Moblo | Google Play 2.6M installs | General 3D furniture modeling, without the Spanish-language cut list, edge banding and hardware breakdown |
| Closet Planner 3D | Google Play 2.13M installs | Visualizing wardrobe layouts, without production planning |
| SketchCut, CutList Optimizer, and free optimizers from board suppliers | SketchCut 1M+ | Cutting only; you have to work out each board yourself first |
| Cortecloud | Latin American / Brazilian board-processing ordering platforms | Outsourced panel cutting and edge banding; it's a downstream service |
The gap is: Spanish-language, for people who can't model, taking ready-made parametric cabinets straight to a cut list. That difference is real, but it isn't the main reason MuebleMio is taking off. The main reason is that its creator is already a top creator in this niche, and his 20 million followers came to learn "how to size a wardrobe" in the first place. Give the same product to a developer without an audience and it would be very hard to reach 19k installs in two months.
If it were you
B. The idea could be copied, and the niche isn't crowded yet. But growth depends entirely on the founder's own woodworking account, which you don't have. If no local woodworking creator will work with you, don't build it.
Who it suits: you're a woodworking, renovation or custom-furniture creator yourself, or you can partner with one and split revenue. Ideally you speak the language or your partner does, in a flat-pack furniture market outside Spanish: Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic or Vietnamese.
Who it doesn't suit: developers who only write code and plan to rely on organic App Store search. Keywords like "furniture design" and "cut list" are already saturated by Moblo and SketchCut. Going straight to Brazil isn't recommended either: there's a local professional tool called Promob, a SketchUp plugin called Calcme, and a free Portuguese online tool called Flatma ("no sign-up, makes MDF cutting diagrams"). It's more crowded than the Spanish market.
How to build it: web first, then the app. The core is three things: a parametric library of 20–30 common cabinets (wardrobes, wall cabinets, base cabinets, drawer units, shoe cabinets), cut lists based on local board specs (sheet size, thickness, edge banding), and cut layout. PDF quotes are for small workshops to get paid, so they're worth building early. Price it like he does: a free tier limited by number of boards, and weekly billing priced against "one job pays for it." In markets where credit cards aren't common, launch on Google Play billing from the start.
How to get users: rotate the three video types he uses. Compare the most popular local software with "X vs your tool", one feature per video; make one tutorial per parameter; add "how much you save building it yourself versus hiring someone." The most common comment is "where do I get the boards cut?", so you could publish a list of local cutting shops or partner with them for referrals.
Timing: it only does Spanish right now, and the iOS version is just three weeks old. If you want to go after another language, aim to build your creator relationships and template library before the first half of 2027, before it or a competitor translates the library into other languages.
Signs you're misreading it: ① MuebleMio has shipped Portuguese, Indonesian, or Turkish versions, or local creators in your target market already have similar tools trending on Play. ② Its install growth drops to a few hundred a day or less after the 10–November wave, while creators keep posting daily, meaning viewers of the videos don't convert into users. ③ The creators you picked have posted more than 10 tutorials and conversion is still in single digits, meaning the channel doesn't work with new people.

Why MuebleMio - 3D Furniture Plans (com.mueblemio.mueblemio) took off

One line
MuebleMio is a parametric furniture design tool for the Spanish-speaking woodworking and melamine furniture community. You pick a cabinet plan, change the dimensions, and it automatically outputs panel lists, edge banding, hardware and cutting layouts. Its creator is the TikTok woodworker "el carpintero perfecto" (Alexander Hurtado, 219k TikTok followers, 140k Instagram followers). The app's growth comes almost entirely from tutorial videos on his own accounts, not from hired influencers or paid ads.
1. Core numbers and data
- Identity verified: the contact email on the Play page is
[email protected]; the App Store seller name is Alexander Hurtado; the TikTok @elcarpinteroperfecto profile links to mueblemio.com/contacto; the YouTube video description reads "Mi plataforma: mueblemio.com · instagram.com/alexanderjhg". The recall card's "promoted by TikTok woodworking influencers" should be corrected to: the influencer is the developer himself. - Launch: Play launched 2026-08-30 (store date); iOS listed 2026-10-18 (App Store id 6804509617, category Graphics & Design). The web version mueblemio.com came earlier. By 2025-05 TikTok already had videos on "melamina panel cut dimensions"; MuebleMio editor tutorials started appearing from 2026-07-28 (inferred from video ID timestamps).
- Install curve (googleplay.app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates + our own collection):
- 2026-09-15 2,161 → 10-01 5,127 → 10-13 10,072 → 10-27 15,463 → 11-06 18,899.
- 7 days of new installs 3,435 (googleplay.app_profile, 2026-11-06), averaging about 300–600 per day, climbing steadily over two and a half months with no cliff or one-day spike.
- Charts (googleplay.chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06): Home & Garden free chart in Mexico at #25–#34, Argentina at #49–#66. The Top Grossing chart sits at #65–#77 in a dozen-plus storefronts including in, mx, ar, za, vn, ph, ng and sg, with nearly identical ranks. This matches what why.md describes: small-country category charts are often the same aggregated chart. It can't be taken as real multi-country revenue; it only shows that Play in-app purchases are genuinely bringing in money.
- iOS (appstore.app_profile): three weeks after launch, Home & Garden Top Grossing in Guatemala at #16, free charts in Colombia / Ecuador / Honduras at #40, with only single-digit ratings counts (co 9 reviews, mx 2 reviews; iTunes lookup 11-06).
- Ratings: the Play US store shows no rating; the Play web page shows a tablet rating of 5.0 (6 reviews). The "4.5 · 1,294 reviews" on the website are self-collected reviews on the site, largely saying things like "1", "dgasf" and "buenisimo". They are not third-party reviews, so credibility is low.
- Pricing: website PRO is $3.99/week and $9.99/month (the same account works on web and app). On Play, Pro is billed monthly or yearly with a 3-day trial, with in-app purchases ranging from $7.99–$19.99. Free tier: basic library, and the optimizer is limited to 30 panels.
2. Competitors
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How MuebleMio is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SketchUp (+ cut-list plugins / Polyboard / OptiCut) | Desktop | Years | The de facto standard in the Latin American woodworking community | Modeling from scratch has a steep learning curve; MuebleMio's entire content strategy is "no SketchUp needed" |
| Moblo - 3D Furniture Design | Android / iOS | 2020 | 2.6M installs on Play (googleplay library) | General-purpose 3D furniture modeling with a DIY bent; no library of ready-to-use parametric cabinet plans, and no panel / edge-banding / hardware lists of the kind Spanish-speaking woodworkers rely on |
| Closet Planner 3D | Android | 2017 | 2.13M installs on Play (googleplay library) | Wardrobe layout visualization focused on placement, not production; no cut optimization |
| SketchCut | Android | Not verified | Play 1M+ (store page) | Pure cut-layout calculator; you have to work out each panel yourself. MuebleMio generates panels directly from a "cabinet plan" |
| CutList Optimizer | Web / Android / iOS | iOS 2023-09 | Charts in multiple iOS storefronts; scale not verified | Also cut optimization, English-language tool; no furniture plan library |
| Cortecloud | Web / app (Latin America, Brazil) | Years | Latin American panel processing platform | An ordering platform for outsourced cutting, edge-banding and drilling. It sells processing services, whereas MuebleMio sells design through to dimensions. The two are upstream and downstream of each other |
| Free optimizers from panel makers (Arauco, Duratex and others), optimizadordecorte.app, Fabivo | Web | Years | Free | Cutting only; no 3D plans and no parametrics |
| Blueprint: Cabinet Design, Wardrobe Designer: Closet 3D | iOS | Not verified | Listed alongside it under "You may also like" on the App Store | English-language cabinet design tools for the market; no local Spanish-language content |
Conclusion: "cut optimization" has been a red ocean with plenty of free options for a long time, and "3D furniture design" has million-download players like Moblo and Closet Planner. The gap that is actually open is "Spanish-language, for people who can't model, take ready-made parametric cabinet plans and output a cut list directly". It combines the business of selling plans with a cut calculator.
3. Growth tactics
- The founder's own TikTok account (verified, main channel). @elcarpinteroperfecto has 219k followers and 890k total likes across 345 videos (TikHub, 2026-11-06). Over the past two months he posted MuebleMio tutorials almost every day, and the hits line up with the step-ups in installs:
- 09-02 "Don't let anyone tell you melamine furniture is hard", 387k views → the app had just launched 08-30, and 09-15 already had 2,161 installs;
- 09-12 "hazlo tú mismo", 200k views;
- 10-04 "Wardrobe drawings with no experience and no SketchUp", 956k views and nearly 40k likes → installs went from 10-05 to 10-08, a jump from 6,159 to 7,979 (averaging about 905/day across the observation gap, the highest on the whole curve);
- Between 10-10 and 10-12 he posted 6 videos in a row (44k, 42k, 35k, 26k views) → about 2,000 new installs from 10-11 to 10-13;
- 10-25 "Hit melamine wardrobe, how to make drawings and dimensions", 176k views. The playbook is fixed: "X vs SketchUp" comparison series (10-06 posted 7 videos in one day), "how to change a cabinet with parameters", and the earning narrative "one job pays for it".
- Instagram @alexanderjhg (140k followers), YouTube @CarpinteroPerfecto (12.3k subscribers), and Facebook cross-posting (verified). The YouTube tutorial "Como USAR MUEBLEMIO para hacer planos faciles de melamina" has 9.5K views.
- Migration of existing users: web version → app (verified). He previously sold a "private community, three dimensioned drawings a day plus SketchUp files" (from an Instagram search snippet) and "custom drawing services" (TikTok signature "servicio de planos personalizados solo hasta el 30"), then built them into a web SaaS. The website pricing page says plainly "Card declined? Upgrade to PRO in the app with the same account." The app launch was mainly to use store in-app purchases to cover the gap for Latin American users without credit cards. YouTube comments already include users asking "how do I subscribe without a credit card?"
- Store search / category charts (partial): the top 30 on the Mexico Home & Garden free chart bring some organic traffic, but the volume is small.
- Paid ads: none found. The Meta ad library (metaads, tracking only watchlist advertisers) shows no advertisers related to carpintero / mueblemio. No evidence of paid acquisition. Zero mentions on X (x-radar, 90 days).
4. Why it took off
- Distribution is built in: a woodworking audience of 219k on TikTok and 140k on IG, people who came to learn how to build wardrobes and work out dimensions. The app is the tool he shows in his videos. The match between hit videos and install step-ups (10-04 video → highest daily gain of 10-05~08) shows the traffic comes from his own content.
- The product turns "selling drawings" into "drawings whose dimensions you can change". He already sold drawings and custom layouts. Parametric plans let one drawing fit any dimensions, which turns content sold once into a subscription. "Every plan is already engineered correctly, so you don't need to know how to structure furniture" directly matches the video promise that you can build without knowing SketchUp.
- Positioned against SketchUp: the pain point for Latin American woodworkers is that SketchUp is hard to learn, the licensed version is expensive, and cut-list plugins are a separate install. His content has consistently run "MuebleMio vs SketchUp" comparisons, so the positioning is clear in one line.
- Where the money comes from: small cabinet-making workshops and freelance carpenters who think "one job pays for the app." The $3.99/week price is set against a single project. In-app purchases solve card-payment problems across Latin America, and charting in several Play regions (though only on the aggregated chart) suggests IAP is generating revenue.
- Timing: no obvious platform event. It's a natural next step from "web SaaS already has users → add mobile and store payments."
5. Differentiation
Compared with Moblo / Closet Planner (general 3D layout) and SketchCut / CutList Optimizer (pure cut-list calculation), MuebleMio stands out for: Spanish-language content + a built-in library of parametric cabinet templates + automatic panel, edgebanding and hardware lists + cutting layouts + a 3D link to share with clients + quote PDFs, taking users all the way from "I want to build a wardrobe" to "send it to the saw." The differentiation holds up, but it isn't the main reason it took off. The main reason is that the developer is himself a top creator in this audience, and the product extends his content naturally. The same product from a developer with no audience would struggle to reach 19k installs in two months. The differentiation's role is to make the video promise (you can design without learning modeling) actually deliver, converting viewers into paying users.
6. How visible it is
- Revenue is not public. No TrustMRR listing, no founder revenue posts. Zero mentions on X. No media coverage found.
- In Spanish-speaking woodworking circles it's a known creator's product, with some reach on TikTok / IG (top single video at 950k views).
- Assessment: it's buzzing within a small circle (Spanish-language woodworking TikTok), and virtually unknown outside it.
7. Copycats
No clear copycats found. Accounts in the same niche sell plan bundles (e.g. @labibliadelcarpintero "1000 woodworking plans", @lindamelamina wardrobe plans). They sell PDFs and drawings, not parametric tools. On the App Store, "Closet Design" by Nicolas Gustavo Melian (2026-02) predates MuebleMio, so it doesn't count as a copycat.
8. Takeaways
- The "creator → sell content → build it into a tool" path: creators with a vertical audience turn content they used to sell once (drawings) into parametric / interactive tools on a subscription model.
- A content series framed as "X vs. the notoriously hard industry software", with a short comparison video for each feature.
- Use store in-app purchase to solve payments in Latam and emerging markets: in regions where web SaaS can't collect money, ship the app and bill through Google / Apple.
- Price on "pays for itself in one job": weekly pricing against project-based craftspeople.
- Could be copied into Brazilian Portuguese (marcenaria, custom MDF cabinets are a big market), Indonesia, Arabic, Turkish and other board-furniture markets. But it depends on finding or becoming a local woodworking creator at the top. Without distribution, the tool itself is easily drowned out by similar ones.
9. Uncertain
- Real revenue: the chart rank is for the aggregated chart, so it doesn't show scale. Conversion rate is unknown.
- Launch date of the web version, web user base (the official site's "1,294 reviews" are self-collected and low credibility). archive.org was unavailable that day, so no web version history was found.
- Whether it runs paid ads: our ad library only tracks a list of advertisers, so not finding ads doesn't mean there are none. Whether TikTok Spark Ads boosting is used is unverified.
- Whether the Play listing date 08-30 was reset (changing info or adding regions resets it) is unverified.
- The launch dates and exact scale of competitors SketchCut and CutList Optimizer are not fully verified.
