ReMemory AI: SAT ACT NCLEX GRE (Turkish store name ReMemory AI: YKS TYT AYT KPSS) · Cryptid Studio

"Free Claude solves your wrong answers": an Istanbul indie developer squeezes into Turkey's "digital error notebook" niche four months late

What it is You photograph the questions you got wrong, the app reminds you to review them on a forgetting curve, and the AI can walk you through any question for free.

Why it took off Turkey's "digital error notebook" category only appeared this summer, just as the high-school mock-exam season was starting. It beat competitors by adding the "free AI explanations" hook, packaged on Reddit as "free Claude." It got its first batch of five-star reviews through mutual-testing communities, and climbed higher once it charted in the education category.

B How you could follow it Don't go to Turkey, where six or seven players are already crowded in. Pick a country with a nationwide major exam and no one serving it yet (Indonesia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Mexico, Brazil), build for that one country's exams only, use "free AI explanations" to acquire users, error-review to retain them, and sell AI usage as a subscription.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and few people know about it, and building it for another country would face almost no competition. But its multi-country version has only gained traction in Turkey, revenue is still invisible, students' willingness to pay is low, and big-tech AI could add question storage and review at any time. Few people know about it yet

ReMemory AI is an Android app that takes photos of wrong answers, schedules reviews on the forgetting curve, and has AI explain the problems for free. Its author is Muratcan Gözüm, an indie dev in Istanbul. It launched in Oct 6, reached 5 3,567 installs by Nov, added 1,623 installs in the last week, and climbed to #102 in the Turkey Play Education free chart. The numbers are small and almost nobody knows about it. What's worth studying is how it's built: it brings the wrong-answer notebook that China and Korea have pushed for years into Turkey, uses free AI problem-solving to pull people in, and ships one package with local exam names in 19 languages, one per country. The playbook can be copied to other big exam markets, but the money hasn't been proven yet.

A five-star review that isn't just hype

In Oct 2026 7, a user named "paint and stuff" on the Turkish Play store gave ReMemory five stars:

"Questions I can't solve, I can get the AI to solve for free. It answers fast, and it's not bogus."

Two days later, Fatih Kuzu wrote: "I used to solve problems with Gemini, it was a hassle, this one is simple and useful." The developer replied to each review with a string of emojis. In the Turkish store the app has a 4.9 rating and 16 reviews, all in Turkish, concentrated in the first week after launch (Turkish Play store page, 11-06).

These reviews came quickly, and some were traded. The developer posted "I need testers, I'll test yours for 14 days" on r/AndroidClosedTesting, and "Give my app five stars, I'll test yours for 14 days" on r/20AndroidTesters. Google Play requires new individual developer accounts to recruit 12 people for a 14-day closed test before launch, and these "mutual testing" forums exist for that reason. The praise in the reviews is real, and the growth that followed backs this up: students want "someone to explain this question to me," and the error notebook is secondary.

What it is

In the Turkish store it's called "ReMemory AI: YKS TYT AYT KPSS," with Turkish exam names in the title (YKS is the national university entrance exam, TYT and AYT are its two sessions, KPSS is the civil-service exam). The first line of the description: "Photograph the questions you got wrong, and ReMemory will bring them back right when you're about to forget."

How it works:

  • Import questions: multi-page photo capture with cropping, or import from the gallery or screenshots. Text recognition runs on the phone, so you can search the text in photos later. Choose the reason for the mistake (careless, didn't know it, misread, out of time, miscalculated).
  • Five-level spaced review: answer correctly to move up a level, answer wrong to drop back to level one, and a correct answer at level five counts as mastered. The intervals aren't fixed at 1/3/7/15/30 days; they lengthen or shorten automatically based on how well you remember.
  • AI explanations: have the AI walk through a wrong question step by step, point out common traps, or generate a set of similar questions for practice.
  • Free question feed: short multiple-choice questions preset by exam, "33 countries, 118 exams, 8,000+ questions," so you can do a few each day and keep a streak going.
  • The 11-03 update added timed mock exams, a landscape answer sheet and a mock-exam score report.

No sign-up needed, works offline. The free version has unlimited question capture, review, practice, stats and printing. Pro is a subscription that raises AI explanations from 5 to 30 per day, removes ads from the question feed, and adds cloud backup and export. The in-app purchase prices listed in the store are $2.99–$47.99. From Nov 4 the store page added "contains ads."

The curve: spike, drop, rebound

After launch it reached about a thousand installs in a week, via Reddit and the testing communities. From Oct 20 to 28 it dropped to a dozen or twenty a day, then accelerated again from Oct 29, adding 460 on one day in Nov 5. It has charted in only two countries: #166 on Spain's education free chart 10-29 (the Spanish title at the time was "PAU MIR Oposición"); and from 11-01 on, Turkey's education free chart climbed from #195 to #117, then dipped back to #144 at 102,11-05. It has never charted in the US.

What drove the late-October acceleration is hard to see from outside. Some events line up in time: a new version was released on 10-29; around Oct 31 its Instagram account started posting funny short videos in Turkish ("Is anyone who sat down to study before the slipper came flying here?", tagged #yks2027 #kpss), but the account has only 13 followers and 7 likes per post, which can't carry this volume; and there's the extra exposure from charting in Turkey's education category. The threshold for the top hundred in Turkey's education chart is low: competitor Karga, with about four hundred new installs a day, ranks at #125–#171. So a store-search and chart-exposure feedback loop is the more likely explanation (inference). Neither the Meta nor the Google ad library shows it running ads, but not finding them doesn't mean it isn't spending.

Where users come from

A hook: frame the selling point as "free Claude." Its posts on r/UniversityTR, r/TurkDev and r/Akademia were titled "Yanlış yaptığınız soruları çözen ücretsiz Claude AI," meaning "Free Claude AI that solves the questions you got wrong." For Turkish university students, "free Claude" is more tempting than "yet another error notebook." The Reddit post bodies and engagement counts couldn't be retrieved, and the posting dates are unverified.

One ASO play: write local exam names into the title, by country. This is where it put the most effort. The same package uses different store titles by language and country (Play store page, 11-06):

MarketExams named in the title

Japan / Korea共通テスト 大学受験 間違いノート / 수능 내신 공무원 시험 오답노트
Indonesia / VietnamUTBK SNBT CPNS / Tốt nghiệp THPT
Nigeria / PhilippinesJAMB WAEC NECO / LET NLE Reviewer

19 languages in total. The app really does include subject lists and practice questions for these exams, so the exam names in the titles aren't empty claims. The last paragraph of the Turkish description is a string of search terms: "Yanlış defteri, hata defteri, soru bankası, soru kartı, deneme analizi" (wrong-answer notebook, error notebook, question bank, question cards, mock-exam analysis). So far, though, this multi-country ASO has only worked in Turkey and Spain, and the US has not charted it at all. It currently looks more like an option held for later.

Zero-cost cold start: local Reddit communities, plus mutual-testing groups. As noted above, the first testers and five-star reviews came this way.

No media coverage, creator partnerships or discussion on X was found, and the developer has not posted any revenue figures.

Who's competing for it: it is itself a follower

The "digital error notebook" (dijital yanlış defteri) category only emerged in Turkey in summer 2026, and ReMemory is the third or fourth to enter:

It climbed past them on one thing: AI explanations. 11-03, 11-04 it ranks #102 on the TR Education chart, while Karga sits at #152–154. Karga still has more than six times its installs.

Seen from other countries, this is an old category. China's 试卷宝 has been around for 2020 years; on the China store it has 159k ratings and ranks #14 on Top Grossing. Photographing exam papers, erasing answers, organizing wrong answers and printing are all standard features. Korea's 한국사 오답노트 has 200k installs on Play. The English-speaking world has flashcard giants like Anki and Quizlet, but few apps built around photographing mistakes, and those are small. US students have a habit of keeping a paper "wrong answer journal", and a TikTok video about it got 365k views, yet no app has taken that spot. One layer up, Gemini, ChatGPT and Photomath can all photograph a problem and explain it, but none saves your mistakes or schedules review. That is what the commenter Fatih Kuzu was pointing at.

Where the money is

Not visible yet. It has never charted on any country's Top Grossing, so revenue is likely small. There are two monetization paths: AI usage is capped behind a subscription (5 free uses per day, 30 for Pro), and since Nov 4 it has also shown ads in the question feed. The upside of this design is a ceiling on AI costs and a clear reason to pay. The hard part is the users: most Turkish high-school students don't pay, and prices are low, so it's hard to say how much a subscription can bring in. Ads being added suggests the developer is looking for other revenue (inference).

If it were you

The short verdict: The combo of "photo wrong-answer book + spaced review + free AI explanations" is worth testing in a country with a national high-stakes exam and no one doing it yet. Skip Turkey, where six or seven players already compete. Whether the money works hasn't been proven by anyone.

Who it suits: Indie developers who can write Android and are willing to build the subject lists and question banks for one country's exams, one by one. Someone who speaks the local language and knows which forums students gather on has an edge.

Who it doesn't suit: People hoping to pay back quickly through subscriptions, since middle and high school students have low willingness to pay. Also people planning a generic English version to compete head-on with Anki, Quizlet and ChatGPT.

How to do it:

  • Pick one country and focus only on it. Candidates are places with a nationwide university entrance exam, heavy mock-test culture, and local apps still run by small shops: Indonesia (UTBK SNBT), Vietnam (THPT), Nigeria (JAMB WAEC), Mexico (EXANI-II), Brazil (ENEM). ReMemory has only its title in these countries and hasn't broken in (inference; competition in each country was not verified individually).
  • Put "AI explanations" first, and let the wrong-answer book be the retention hook. Free explanations bring people in; review reminders and daily streaks keep them.
  • Localize the content: build in the local exam's subjects, question formats and mock-test scoring. Karga got onto the Turkish charts by covering YKS and KPSS thoroughly.
  • Monetize the way it does: cap AI by usage, give free users a few uses a day, sell subscriptions that add uses, and show ads in the practice feed.

How to get users: Put the local exam name right in the store title, and stack the terms locals actually search at the end of the description (such as 오답노트 in Korean or 間違いノート in Japanese). For cold start, post in local university and student sub-forums and Telegram groups, with a headline like "Free AI solves your wrong answers" instead of "wrong-answer book". For closed testing, use a mutual-testing community to get 12 testers for 14 days. Only consider paid user acquisition once you chart in the local Education category.

When to launch: Work backward from the country's exam calendar. Turkey's YKS is in June, so mock exams peak from September to November, and ReMemory timed its entry for that stretch. For other countries, aim to publish three to five months before the next big exam. Indonesia's UTBK runs 4–May, so the deadline would be January of 2027 (inference).

Signs you've misjudged it: Two or three months after launch, you still can't crack the top 100 of the local free Education chart. Or lots of people install but few pay once their AI uses run out, and ad income doesn't cover AI costs. Or Gemini or ChatGPT ships a "wrong-answer book" feature that auto-saves questions and schedules review. Any one of these means stop.

Why ReMemory AI (com.muratcangzm.rememory) took off

Channel: Google Play | Developer: Cryptid Studio (actually Muratcan Gözüm, an individual Android developer in Istanbul, Turkey) | Launched 2026-10-06 | Research day 2026-11-06

Bottom line

When I first pulled it up, I assumed it was the "stuff the title with high-value US exam terms and rank up through cheap Mexican storefronts" play. Digging in showed it isn't. It's a wrong-answer book built by one Turkish solo developer: "photo wrong-answer book + spaced repetition + free AI explanations." Most of its traffic comes from Turkey (in our database it has only charted on the TR Education free chart, ranking 102–195, plus one run at #166 in Spain). It caught a small but growing wave in Turkey over the past 2026 years, "dijital yanlış defteri" (digital wrong-answer book); Karga launched in June and Mistake Notebook in July. It entered 3–4 months later and caught up on three fronts: a "free Claude AI solves your wrong answers" hook, 19 languages plus country-specific ASO that puts local exam names in the titles, and cold start through Reddit's Turkey communities and testing-swap groups. Installs picked up again in late October (daily installs rose from about 20 to about 460), which matches when it started posting Instagram Reels, released 1.5.7 versions and entered the TR Education chart. Volume is still small (3,567 installs), and almost no one knows about it.

  • Net gain of 7 over the last 1,623 days (googleplay.app_profile, 11-05). The curve is "hit ~1,000 in the first week, fell to twenty or so a day, then picked up again after Oct 29", not a steady climb.
  • Charts (googleplay.chart_rank): 10-29 on the Spain Education free chart at #166 (title then: "ReMemory AI: PAU MIR Oposición"); from 11-01 on the Turkey Education free chart at #195 → #117 → #102 → #102 → #144 (title: "ReMemory AI: YKS TYT AYT KPSS"). It has never charted in any US category. The "#22 on Mexico's Top New Free Education" cited in the recall reasoning isn't in our database (our data has no New chart), so it is unverified.
  • Ratings: the Turkish store page shows 4.9 stars from 16 reviews, all in Turkish, clustered between October 7 and 11, with the developer replying to each one (Play store TR page, 2026-11-06 scrape). The US page doesn't show a rating count.
  • Monetization: subscription Pro, in-app purchases $2.99–$47.99 (googleplay.app_snap); starting 11-04 1.6.0, ad_supported flipped from False to True, so ads now show in the question feed (Pro removes them). Free tier: unlimited snap-to-solve, review, question feed, stats, printing; Pro: 30 AI explanations per day (5 on free), cloud backup, export, and more.

2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

Turkey's "digital wrong-answer book" is a small niche that only took off 2026 years ago, and ReMemory came in late:

Similar apps that already matured in other countries:

  • China's "wrong-answer notebook" category: Shijuanbao (2020, 159k ratings on the China store, Top Grossing 14), Xiaobai Xuexi Dayin (136k ratings), Mifeng Shijuan. Photograph the test, erase the answers, organize mistakes, print. Printing is standard (appstore library).
  • Korea's "오답노트" category: 한국사 오답노트 (2020, 200k Play installs), 기투, TARS, etc. (appstore / googleplay).
  • English-speaking world: Anki (AnkiDroid 24.6M installs), Quizlet (63.9M), Gizmo (5.51M), and Knowt (930k) are the big flashcard and AI-flashcard players. Dedicated English "mistake notebook" apps are few and small (MistakeBook on Play 100+, Errly around 5K, Missnote, Mistake Coach, etc., per chrome-stats similar-app lists). Americans keep "wrong answer journals" on paper instead. One TikTok by itsandreali about a wrong-answer journal got 365k views. No big app has claimed the spot.
  • Big-tech features: Photomath / Google Lens, Gemini, and ChatGPT can all photograph a problem and explain it, but none saves your mistakes or schedules reviews. A reviewer said: "Solving problems with Gemini was much more hassle before, this one is simple and easy" (TR review, 10-09).

Bottom line: "photo mistake notebook + spaced repetition" is an old category in China and Korea. In Turkey it became a new category only when a few indie developers built versions in summer 2026. ReMemory did not pioneer it. It is the third or fourth entrant.

3. Growth tactics: how users found it

  1. Reddit cold start (confirmed). The developer posted in r/UniversityTR, r/TurkDev, and r/Akademia with the title "Free Claude AI that solves the questions you got wrong" (Yanlış yaptığınız soruları çözen ücretsiz Claude AI). The body read "As a developer I built an Android app called ReMemory AI…" (from a Jina search snippet; the Reddit body was blocked by anti-scraping, so the post date and engagement counts are unverified). Packaging the pitch as "free Claude" pulls in university students better than "mistake notebook" does.
  2. Tester-swap and review-swap communities (confirmed). r/AndroidClosedTesting has posts like "I Need Testers for my ReMemory App | I will Test your App for 14 days". These communities exist because Google Play requires new individual developer accounts to get 12 testers to run a closed test for 14 days before publishing. Another thread, r/20AndroidTesters, reads "If you rate my app with 5 stars, I'll Test Your App for 14 Days", which is a five-star trade. This explains the batch of 5-star reviews from the early launch.
  3. Multilingual store ASO (confirmed, and the core tactic). It does not only stuff "SAT ACT NCLEX GRE" into the US listing. It covers 19 languages and writes each country's local exam names into its listing (from the Play store page scrape, 2026-11-06):
    • Turkish: YKS TYT AYT KPSS. Spanish: PAU MIR Oposición. Mexico: EXANI-II UNAM IPN. Brazilian Portuguese: ENEM Concurso OAB. French: Bac Brevet PASS. German: Abitur Matura TMS. Italian: Maturità Medicina. Polish: Matura Egzamin. Japanese: 共通テスト 大学受験 間違いノート. Korean: 수능 내신 공무원 시험 오답노트. Vietnamese: Tốt nghiệp THPT. Indonesian: UTBK SNBT CPNS. Filipino: LET NLE Reviewer. Nigerian: JAMB WAEC NECO. UK/India: Exam Revision.
    • The app itself ships with a subject list for "33 countries, 118 exams" and 8,000+ original practice questions (a question stream). So the exam keywords in the listing are not empty hype.
    • The end of the Turkish description is packed with search terms: "Yanlış defteri, hata defteri, soru bankası, soru kartı, deneme analizi."
  4. Instagram Reels (confirmed, but tiny reach). The account rememoryai has 1,13 followers. Starting around Oct 31, it posted Turkish comedy shorts ("Anyone here who sits down to study before the slipper flies at you?", #yks2027 #tyt #kpss), with 7 likes on a single post. On TikTok, one result turns up in search: "YKS için Fotoğraflı Yanlış Defteri: ReMemory AI ile Tekrar Sistemi" (from the TikTok discover page summary), but the account itself wasn't found. The store promo video on YouTube has 44 views (uploaded 2026-09-28).
  5. Paid ads (unknown). Neither the Meta nor the Google ad library shows any tracked ads from it. It is not on our watch list, so a missing result does not mean it did not spend. 11-04 just added ad monetization, which suggests it may be starting to track ROI, but there is no evidence.
  6. Organic store traffic and a chart-momentum loop (inference). 11-01 reached the Turkey Education free chart, then climbed to 4 within 102 days. Daily installs rose from about 200 to about 460 over the same period. The bar to chart near the hundreds in Turkey Education is low (Karga gets roughly 400 new daily installs and ranks 125–171), so once an app charts it gets extra exposure.

Not found: press coverage, X discussion (x-radar shows 60 posts in the last 0 days), creator partnerships, TrustMRR, or developers posting revenue.

4. Why it took off

  • Timing: Turkey's YKS university entrance exam 2027 falls in June, and from September after school starts through November is peak "deneme" (mock exam) season, when demand for mistake notebooks is at its highest. Karga and Mistake Notebook have already built buzz for the "digital mistake notebook" idea on the Turkish education charts (both ranked #120–#170 in the TR education category). ReMemory entering in October lines up with the peak season.
  • A different hook: competitors talk about "organizing" and "reviewing." ReMemory talks about "free AI that walks you through your wrong answers step by step." Early reviews praise this almost exclusively: "Questions I can't solve, I can have the AI solve for free, and the answers are fast and not nonsense" and "Gemini was much more hassle before" (TR reviews, 10-07/10-09). For students, "free AI solves it" is a stronger reason to download than "mistake notebook." The notebook is what keeps them around.
  • Global version from day one: competitors only target Turkey (Mistake Notebook offers only English, Spanish, and Turkish), while ReMemory launched with 19 languages, 33 countries' exams, and country-specific titles. So apart from Turkey, scattered traffic comes from Spain, Mexico, the US, and elsewhere (it charted in Spain once).
  • An indie developer's speed: within a month it went from 1.5.0 to 1.6.0 (store records 1.5.6 10-26, 1.5.7 10-29, 1.6.0 11-04). In November it added a "timed mock exam + landscape answer sheet + mock score report" feature. That is the mock-exam analysis that competitor Karga already offers, showing it is rapidly catching up to rivals.

5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

Compared with Turkish rivals: AI explanations + generating similar questions, a built-in question stream (a few questions a day, streak check-ins), multiple countries and languages, five-level adaptive intervals (not a fixed 1/3/7/15/30 days), and offline OCR that searches text in photos. Compared with the older Chinese and Korean players: it is the first individual product to build the "mistake notebook" as a localized multi-country version.

Is the reason the AI explainer feature? It's the main selling point in early reviews and Reddit threads, and it's how ReMemory could enter 4 months late and still rank ahead of Karga (11-03/04 TR education chart 102 vs Karga 152–154). Multilingual ASO has contributed little so far (it hasn't charted in the US store at all), so it reads more like an option for later. The question-bank flow plus ads are the extra monetization layer it has over competitors.

6. How visible it is

Few people know about it yet: 3,567 installs, 16 reviews, 13 Instagram followers, no press, 0 X mentions, and no public revenue. The only "discussion" is the developer's own Reddit posts.

7. Copycats

We have found no evidence that anyone copied ReMemory. It is itself a follower in the Turkish mistake-notebook niche. The niche suddenly filled with 2026–5 apps in 6 between 7 and July (Karga, Mistake Notebook/Yanlış Defteri, Yanlış Defteri: Soru Bankası, Hata Defteri, SoruDefterim, Sorio, etc.), and it is already crowded.

8. What others can learn

  • Bring the mature "mistake notebook" category from China and Korea to large exam countries with no dominant players (Turkey, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Mexico, Brazil). Each of these countries has nationwide entrance exams plus heavy mock-exam activity, and the local apps tend to be one-person workshops.
  • Use "free AI problem-solving" as the acquisition hook, spaced repetition for retention, and AI usage caps for subscriptions. AI cost is capped per use (5 free uses per day), and the paywall is clear.
  • Write Play listings per language and country: the same app is called YKS KPSS in Turkey, 수능 오답노트 in Korea, and JAMB WAEC in Nigeria. One app can capture exam keywords for many countries.
  • Cold start through Reddit university and developer communities in each country, plus tester-swap communities, at almost no cost.

9. Uncertain

  • Install share by country: it can only be inferred from the charts (only TR and ES) and reviews (all in Turkish) that Turkey is the main market. There is no per-country data.
  • The specific cause of the late-October acceleration: Instagram is too small to be the main driver. It may be Turkish store search or recommendations, or paid ads we did not see. Unverified.
  • The exact date and engagement counts of the Reddit post (blocked by anti-scraping).
  • Paid conversion and revenue: there are no Top Grossing chart records, so revenue is probably very small.
  • The recalled information "Mexico Top New Free Education #22" is unverified.
