# Filipino viewers stuck on episode 62: NiceTV Max is one of a set of free short-drama clone packages

**What it is** A free Android app for watching vertical short dramas, unlocking episodes by watching ads, with subscriptions sold on the side; users are mainly in the Philippines.

**Why it took off** One team used a batch of shell developer accounts to mass-release the same short-drama package, shared an ad-monetization account, and bought traffic in waves, pushing the new packages into markets like the Philippines where acquisition is cheap and charts are easy to climb; users come for 'free viewing', and the money comes back through ads.

**C** **How you could copy it** Not recommended. If you do it anyway, the only real differentiation can come from licensed content and a language nobody dubs properly, plus doing the parts they botched well: steady ad pacing, no episode-skipping, clear subscription terms.

Grade C: The matrix + paid acquisition + low-barrier top-chart playbook is clear and learnable, but dozens of copycat apps already exist and top players have 300M+ installs. The barrier is in content sourcing, multi-account setups and ad-buying teams, not the product, so it's not worth an indie dev chasing. Few people know about this yet

NiceTV Max launched less than two months ago, has 550K installs on Google Play, added 275K in a week, and hit #4 in the Philippines Entertainment free chart. It has no original shows and nothing that sets it apart from rivals. It's one of a set of "X / X Pro / X Max" short-drama apps, published under several different developer names, with ad revenue flowing into one account. The playbook is obvious, but the niche is already crowded and not a fit for indie devs.

### Episode 62 starts over again

2026 Oct 31, a Filipino user left a one-star review on NiceTV Max's store page: "What is this? Episode 62 keeps replaying! I've watched the ad 5 times and episode 62 is still playing. Worse, from episode 60 on, there are 3 ads per episode. Uninstalling right now." The last line of the review says they're going to look for the show somewhere else.

This isn't a one-off. On Oct 18, nearly 80 reviews showed up on the store page, almost all from Filipino users, and the one-star ones nearly all complained about the same thing: "the ads are longer than the show", "watching a 7-second clip means sitting through over a minute of ads first", "it keeps jumping back to episodes I've already watched". Some said the ads were for online gambling and loan apps; one wrote in Tagalog, "go to Melolo instead, it's much better there"; another compared it to FreeReels: "I know it's free, but FreeReels' ads are tolerable."

Yet its rating is 4.8. In Nov 6 there were 15,793 ratings in total, 13K of them five stars and fewer than 100 one-star (Google Play store page, 11-06). But from Oct 17 to Nov 5, only a little over two hundred written reviews were visible on the page, and one-star reviews made up a large share; the five-star written reviews were mostly one or two words like "nice" or "nice movie". The angry users left text and walked away; the five-star raters almost never wrote anything. Put these two sets of numbers together and you get a fairly clear picture of how this app was built.

### What it is

A vertical short-drama player. The store listing says "romance, werewolves, suspense, fantasy, revenge"; you tap to watch, watch ads to unlock later episodes, and there are in-app purchases and subscriptions priced at $7.99 to $29.99 each. The developer is "KKM slimer club", the contact email is a personal gmail, and the footer of the website nicetvs.net says "NICETV LLC"; the site has only terms and privacy pages.

The same developer released NiceTV in early Aug 20, NiceTV Max in Sep 16, and NiceTV Pro in October. The two big apps together have about 3.77M installs, and the main NiceTV app accounts for over three million of them (Google Play, 11-06).

### How the 550k installs happened

**The curve climbs in steps.** On Oct 21 and 22, cumulative installs jumped from a few thousand to 260K (AppstoreSpy estimate); the next week barely moved, then Oct 31 +36K, Nov 3 +158K, and Nov 5 and 6 each added about 40K, with a few flat days in between (Google Play daily readings, 0 to 10-29 and 11-06). The main NiceTV app rose by 21K on the same days, Oct 22 and 275. Both apps jumped on the same day and kept climbing in bursts, which looks more like staggered ad buys than word of mouth.

**It's a matrix with the other apps.** Checking the app-ads.txt files on each site (this file lists which ad monetization accounts an app uses; read 11-06):

| Website | Corresponding app | Developer | Shared monetization accounts |
|---|---|---|---|
| nicetvs.net | NiceTV, NiceTV Max | KKM slimer club | Same AdMob ID, same Meta Audience Network ID, same Pangle ID |
| haloreels.net | Halo Reels / Pro / Max | Nutri Plaza | Same as above |
| reelshortfly.com | ShortFly / Pro / Max | Conservative Authority | Same as above |
| vegadrama.com | Vega Drama | — | Same as above |
| dramafuture.com, dramlyol.com | Drama World / Pro / Max, DramaOL | Skylark Scan etc. | Same Meta ID, partial AdMob overlap |

Four developers with different names use the same AdMob publisher ID, meaning the ad money goes into the same pocket: either one company running a bunch of shell accounts, or a white-label vendor operating for several clients (inference, can't tell which). Across these domains there are 13 apps and about 49.6M installs, and Halo Reels alone has 12.3M (Google Play, 11-06). There's also a coincidence: NiceTV Max, Drama World Pro and Drama World Max all launched on the same day in Sep 16, under two "different" developer names.

**The ads run on Meta.** The same matrix has a Facebook page called "PassionPro-Short" that has run 1 ads since Aug 20,301, with 6 still running in Nov 442. All are vertical short-drama clips with copy in Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian and English like "twists nonstop, tap to watch the full series", landing on 10 apps including Halo Reels, DramaOL, ShortFly and Drama World (Meta Ad Library, 11-06). I didn't find ads that land directly on NiceTV Max; it may use another page (unverified). Searches for "NiceTV Max" on TikTok and X both return 0 results, with no organic discussion.

**It's targeting the Philippines.** Its best rankings all come from low-bar markets: #4 in the Philippines Entertainment free chart, #12 overall in apps (11-01), #13 in Singapore Entertainment, #18 in the UAE; in the US Entertainment chart it only reached around #104. Ads are cheap in the Philippines and the Entertainment chart is easy to climb, and once it's up, the chart brings in some organic downloads too.

**The ratings are engineered (inference).** It gains 700 to 1,500 ratings a day, the number of ratings is 2.9% of installs, only one or two percent of them include text, and the written reviews are far more negative than a normal star distribution would be. This is the typical pattern of an in-app prompt asking you to rate; I saw no evidence of fake review farming.

### Why users come and where the money comes back

The people arriving want "free". Legit platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox charge coins per episode, and finishing a show can cost tens of dollars, which Filipino viewers can't afford. These clone apps swap the paywall for ads, which catches exactly those users. The recurring praise in good reviews is "thanks for free watching", "Thank you for letting free users watch", "well dubbed".

Whether people stay depends on ad density. Positive reviews say "fewer ads than others"; negative ones say "every episode from episode 60 has 3 ads". It looks like they let people in, then add ads once the plot has hooked them, while pushing subscriptions. In Nov 1 someone wrote "it auto-subscribed me, I want a refund"; another put it bluntly: "no ads, but you have to subscribe to use it." Another said that after a bad review the ads got shorter for a few episodes, then got longer again days later.

Money mostly comes from ads: AdMob, Meta and Pangle, with app-ads.txt also listing 30 programmatic resellers. It has never charted in any country's top grossing list. Third-party estimates put monthly revenue above $10K, about 78% from in-app purchases, with roughly 168K monthly active users (AppGoblin, model estimate, unverified). The business works when the value of the ads a user watches plus the occasional subscription exceeds the cost of acquiring that user. What matters isn't one app's earnings but the whole matrix added together.

### Who it's competing with

The top layer is legit platforms with their own libraries; the bottom layer is the wave of free clone apps that appeared from mid-2026.

| App | Launched | Install (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs from NiceTV Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| ReelShort | 2022-08 | 307M, +5.51M in a week | Original series, coin-based paywall, top 10 in top grossing charts |
| DramaBox | 2023-04 | 307M | Tier-one paid platform, best top grossing rank #6 |
| FreeReels / DramaWave | 2024 | 246M / 152M | Also free-first, but a big company rolling out globally |
| PineDrama(TikTok) | 2025-12 | 84M | Big-studio content and big-studio traffic |
| MixReels | 2026-07 | 14M | Same kind of free clone app, different monetization accounts |
| Halo Reels / Pro / Max | 2026-07/08 | 12.3M / 8.2M / 5.68M | A bigger app in the same matrix, almost no difference |
| Drama World / Pro / Max | 2026-07/09 | 3.93M / 730K / 230K | Same matrix; Pro and Max launched the same day as it |

Compared with the top layer, it's two or three orders of magnitude smaller, has no library, and can't reach the top grossing charts. Compared with the bottom layer, the copy templates, naming conventions and launch rhythm are all the same. Someone is already piggybacking on its name: developer "P T M L" published a same-named "NiceTV" (1K+ downloads), and another, com.tvmoviesnice.nicetv, has already been taken down.

### Still unclear

- Where the shows come from: owned rights, bulk-bought dubbed versions from Chinese studios, or re-uploads of other apps; I couldn't find out. That's the biggest risk for this layer of clone apps.

- Who's behind it: a gmail shell account plus Pangle monetization, which looks like a Chinese team (inference, unverified).

- Retention and real revenue: no public data.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Don't build the Nth free short-drama app. NiceTV Max worked because of a team with a dozen apps, shared monetization accounts and sustained Meta spend, not because of the app itself. Those who follow won't get the same result.

**Who it suits:** People who already have short-drama content (shot in-house, or with access to cheap, legal bulk licensing) and an ad team that can work out each user's acquisition cost against ad returns. People like that could open a second market with this playbook.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Indie devs who only write code; anyone without content rights planning to use questionable shows (infringement and takedown risk sits with the content); anyone hoping for word of mouth or organic traffic (the ratings are engineered, and there's no discussion on TikTok or X).

**How to do it (if you must):** Don't go up against generic English short-drama apps in the Philippines, Indonesia or Latin America. Differentiation has to come from content and language: a language that top platforms and these clone apps haven't properly dubbed, or a specific genre. On the product side, fix what it gets wrong: consistent ad density, no episode-skipping, clear subscription terms. Nearly all its one-star reviews are about these three things, and the reviews that praise "RushDrama" and "FreeReels" show users will switch apps over "ads I can tolerate".

**How to acquire users:** Do what they do: vertical Meta campaigns, using the most intense 10-second clips from the show, and push for the category chart first in countries where paid acquisition is cheap and the entertainment chart is easy to climb. Before launch, get the in-app rating prompt and ad pacing right: those two things decide whether an app lands at 4.8 stars or gets buried by one-stars.

**When to get in:** There's no clear window. This layer of clone apps keeps multiplying every week, and paid acquisition gets more expensive the later you enter.

**What would show I've got it wrong:** ① If an app in this matrix charts in a top grossing list in some country before January 2027, it means subscription returns are stronger than they look, and the numbers should be recalculated; ② if NiceTV Max keeps growing by a few thousand a day organically after its stepped growth stops, it means chart exposure is worth more than it seems; ③ conversely, if Halo Reels, ShortFly, NiceTV and the rest are taken down in one or two months, it means Google Play is cleaning up duplicate apps and this path is closed.

Last point for anyone hunting for opportunities on the charts: when you see a short-drama app climbing fast, check three things first: is the developer email gmail, is the name "X / Pro / Max", and do the star distribution and written reviews match. If all three check out, it's probably an ad business, not a product.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **Shell matrix rotating multiple packages** : the app-ads.txt files for nicetvs.net, haloreels.net, reelshortfly.com and vegadrama.com share AdMob pub-2442730610606122, Meta AN 1402120760500202 and Pangle 5029665; across 6 domains, 13 packages total about 49.6M installs; NiceTV Max and Drama World Pro/Max are both listed on 2026-09-16

## Why NiceTV Max (com.nicetv.stream.max) managed to climb

> One-line verdict: NiceTV Max isn't an app that succeeds on its own merits. It's one entry in a short-drama shell matrix: the template is "free short dramas + dense interstitial/rewarded ads + subscription IAP," and a batch of gmail-registered shell developer accounts (KKM slimer club, Nutri Plaza, Skylark Scan, Conservative Authority...) ships them in an "X / X Pro / X Max" naming pattern, all sharing the same AdMob, Meta Audience Network and Pangle monetization accounts. Then Meta paid acquisition pushes each new entry onto entertainment charts in low-barrier markets like the Philippines. NiceTV Max is one of three packages from the matrix that launched on 2026-09-16 the same day.

Data as of 2026-11-06. Sources: our googleplay / metaads databases (referred to below as "db"), Google Play store pages, the app-ads.txt of each domain, AppGoblin.

### 1. Basic data

| Metric | Value | Source |

| Total installs | 553,758; 7 days +275,294 | db app_profile 11-06 |
| Install curve | Almost no traction for over a month after launch (10-20 was only 129); **10-21 and 10-22, two-day +259k** ; then a plateau, with a step up every 2–3 days since 10-31 (+36k, +158k, +39k, +42k) | db app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimate) + app_day |
| Rating | 15,793 ratings, averaging 4.80 stars; but only 13 reviews include text; ratings-to-installs ratio about 2.9% | Library app_snap 11-06 |
| Charts | Best rank in the Philippines' Entertainment Top Free was #4 (11-01), overall #12; Entertainment #13 in Singapore, #18 in the UAE; in the US store Entertainment only reached #103–162 | Library chart_rank |
| Stores charted | 17 | Library app_profile |

| Developer | KKM slimer club, email cynthiafpv@gmail.com, website nicetvs.net (footer says "NICETV LLC"; the site only has terms and privacy pages) | db app, nicetvs.net |

AppGoblin estimates monthly revenue of $10K+ (78% IAP, 22% ads) and 168k monthly active users (https://appgoblin.info/apps/com.nicetv.stream.max; based on 266k installs in late October; model estimate, unverified).

### 2. Competitors: who else is doing this

The overseas short-drama app market is already a red ocean, and it splits into two tiers:

**Tier 1: official platforms that produce their own content or license it** (all 2022–2024 years old, charted in 30 stores, near the top of Top Grossing):

- ReelShort (NewLeaf / Maple Interactive, 2022-08) 307M installs, +5.51M in 7 days

- DramaBox (STORYMATRIX, 2023-04) 307M, best Top Grossing rank #6

- FreeReels / DramaWave (SKYWORK AI, 2024) 246M / 152M

- NetShort, ShortMax, GoodShort, Melolo (in the 1–160M range), and TikTok's own PineDrama (2025-1.28B)

(All of the above from db app_profile 11-06)

**Tier 2: the "free short-drama knockoff packages" that surfaced mid-2026, and NiceTV Max is in this tier:**

- Halo Reels / Pro / Max (Nutri Plaza, 2026-07 / 08): 12.3M / 8.2M / 5.68M

- MixReels (2026-07) 14M, Drama World / Pro / Max (Skylark Scan), ShortFly / Pro / Max (Conservative Authority), DramaOL, Vega Drama, AnyShort, Dramaly, DramaGo, ShortNext... all launched after 2026-06, mostly individual developers with gmail addresses.

Compared with tier 1, NiceTV Max is two to three orders of magnitude smaller, with no original content and no Top Grossing placement; compared with tier 2, it's no different at all: the description template ("romance, werewolves, suspense, revenge..."), the naming (X / X Pro / X Max), and the release cadence are all the same playbook.

### 3. Key finding: it's part of a matrix

The app-ads.txt files on each package's website (2026-11-06 crawled) show the same ad monetization accounts:

| Website | Corresponding app | Google AdMob DIRECT | Meta Audience Network | Pangle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| nicetvs.net | NiceTV, NiceTV Max | pub-2442730610606122, pub-1237544124671489 | 1402120760500202 | 5029665 |
| haloreels.net | Halo Reels / Pro / Max | pub-2442730610606122 | 1402120760500202 | 5029665 |
| reelshortfly.com | ShortFly / Pro / Max | pub-2442730610606122 | 1402120760500202 | 5029665 |
| vegadrama.com | Vega Drama | pub-2442730610606122 | 1402120760500202 | 5029665 |
| dramafuture.com | Drama World / Pro / Max | pub-4673531867105896, pub-1237544124671489 | 1402120760500202 | — |
| dramlyol.com | DramaOL | pub-4673531867105896 | 1402120760500202 | 5029665 |

The same AdMob publisher ID appears under 4 different "developers", which means the ad revenue goes into the same pocket (either shells of one company, or one white-label vendor running them on a revenue share). In the db these developers together account for 13 packages and about 49.6M installs (db app_profile, summed across the 6 domains above).

Another strong signal: **NiceTV Max, Drama World Pro and Drama World Max were all listed on the same day, 2026-09-16** (db app), under two "different" developers.

In the Meta Ad Library, a page called "PassionPro-Short" (4,700 likes) has run 20,301 ads since 2026-08-01, with 442 currently live, all vertical video, landing on 10 packages: the Halo Reels trio, DramaOL, ShortFly Pro, Drama World, AnyShort, WinkiTV Lite / Pro, Passion Short Pro; the copy is in Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian and English, "plot twists nonstop, tap to watch the full series" (db metaads advertiser / ad, 11-06). **We did not see any ads landing on NiceTV / NiceTV Max** . It may use a different page, or it may be outside what we track; this is unverified.

One more thing that fits the "matrix" pattern: the same developer 2026-10 also shipped NiceTV Pro (com.nicetv.stream.pro, AppBrain shows 500+ downloads). The naming pattern is exactly the same as Halo / ShortFly / Drama World.

### 4. Growth tactics

1. **Shell matrix rotating multiple packages (confirmed)** : evidence above. When one package gets bad reviews, rate-limited or pulled, the next package runs the same content on the same backend; several packages charting at once also take more chart slots and more category and search traffic.

2. **Paid acquisition (confirmed at the matrix level, not seen directly for NiceTV Max)** : the sister app PassionPro-Short ran 20k ads on Meta from a single homepage; the monetization stack includes the Facebook SDK (the privacy policy lists Google Ads, Firebase, Play Billing and the Facebook SDK). 10-21/22 The curve, jumping from 129 to 260k in two days and then climbing step by step on each platform, looks more like paid waves than organic spread. There is no organic discussion on TikTok or X (a TikHub search for "NiceTV Max" returned 0 results, x-radar returned 0 posts in 60 days).

3. **Climbing charts in low-barrier markets (confirmed)** : the best rankings are all in the Philippines (Entertainment #4, overall #12), Singapore and the UAE; all 80 review samples come from the Philippines. The Philippines has low CPI and a low bar for the Entertainment chart, so charting there brings a share of organic downloads.

4. **Incentivized ratings (suspected, strong)** : of 15,793 ratings, only 13 include text, the ratings-to-installs ratio is 2.9%, with 700–1,500 new ratings per day; most text reviews are one or two words like "nice", "good", "excellent". This fits in-app rating prompts; we saw no evidence of fake ratings.

5. **Riding category demand (confirmed)** : it rides the demand that ReelShort and DramaBox have built for overseas short dramas, with a "free to watch" pitch that replaces the paywall with ads.

### 5. Why users come, why they stay, and where the money comes from

- **Why they come** : they are hooked by short-drama clips in paid-acquisition videos, click through, and find that it's "free to watch". Official platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox charge coins per episode, tens of dollars per series, which markets like the Philippines can't afford; "watch ads to unlock episodes" catches that segment. Reviews repeatedly say "thanks for free watching" and "Thank you for letting free users watch".

- **Why they stay (and why they don't)** : positive reviews focus on "the shows are good" and "fewer ads than others"; negative reviews focus on too many ads ("one after every episode, and some in the middle", "from episode 60 on, 3 ads per episode", "the ads are longer than the show"), episodes looping on one scene, and auto-subscription ("automatically signed me up for subscription I want my money back"). Retention relies on plot hooks, and ad density rises with episode count: users are brought in up front, then harvested with ads and subscriptions later.

- **Where the money comes from** : ads (AdMob + Meta AN + Pangle, and app-ads.txt also lists 30 programmatic resellers) plus subscription IAP at $7.99–$29.99. The matrix runs on "acquisition cost per user < ad revenue per user viewed + a little subscription"; no single package has reached any Top Grossing chart, so revenue mostly comes from ads.

### 6. Differentiation

Viewed on its own, the product has no differentiation: the content, copy and UI are the same as a dozen other packages in the matrix, and compared with tier-1 platforms the only difference is "free + ads". Its differentiation lies in the playbook:

- For users: free (ad-unlocked) versus the paywall. This is the selling point shared by the whole knockoff tier, and it does have pull in lower-income countries.

- For operators: one backend to clone packages in bulk, shell developers to spread account-ban risk, centralized paid acquisition, centralized monetization.

So what made it work is the distribution playbook (matrix + paid acquisition + climbing charts in low-barrier markets), not anything special about NiceTV Max itself.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- **Still almost no one knows about it** : no media coverage; neither X (x-radar) nor TikTok (TikHub) turns up anything; only the auto-generated pages of data sites and download sites like AppBrain, AppGoblin, Apptopia and APKPure. Revenue is not public (only AppGoblin's model estimate of $10K+/month).

- **But this playbook is already crowded** : free short-drama knockoff packages numbered at least several dozen in the second half of 2026, and in the db a single new package in this category can add hundreds of thousands to millions of installs within a week.

- **Copycat / name-squatting** : the developer "P T M L" published a same-name "NiceTV" (com.nicetv.nicetv2026.movies, 1K+ installs, 10-29 updates); a separate com.tvmoviesnice.nicetv has already been pulled (store shows Not Found). The developer also published NiceTV Pro.

### 8. What to borrow

- One content backend feeds multiple store packages (X / Pro / Max), spread across different developer accounts, with staggered release schedules so a problem with one package doesn't sink the whole operation.

- Go for the category chart first in countries with low CPI and low chart barriers (Philippines, Indonesia, Latin America), using organic traffic from chart placement to dilute paid acquisition costs.

- Progressive monetization: few ads in the first episodes, then ads plus subscription pop-ups. The early reviews and ratings look good, and the money comes later.

- Prompt users to rate in-app to push the rating to 4.8, which lifts store conversion.

- Risks: the content source (whether it's licensed) is unclear. Auto-renewing subscriptions, ad-heavy card sets, and the sock-puppet matrix itself all run into Google Play policy (duplicate content, spam apps), so the ban risk is high.

### 9. Still unclear

- Where the short-drama content comes from: owned rights, bulk licensing from Chinese studios with translation, or piracy from major platforms. Not found.

- The entity behind the matrix: the AdMob ID is shared, but it can't be confirmed whether it's one company or a white-label / outsourcing provider serving several clients. Guess: a Chinese team (shell developers, gmail addresses, Pangle monetization), unverified.

- NiceTV Max's own paid acquisition channels: no ads directly pointing to it in the Meta ad library, and none in the Google or TikTok ad libraries either. Our ad libraries only track listed products, so not finding ads doesn't mean it isn't advertising.

- Whether 10-21/22's 260K jump came from paid ads, store featuring, or a step change from AppstoreSpy backfilling data can't be fully determined. On the same day the main NiceTV package also gained 275K.

- Retention and real revenue: no data.
