# Rebuilding Amora in Vietnamese with birth charts: Nym squeezed onto the top-grossing chart with 5,810 installs, then stopped

**What it is** A Vietnamese-language AI “dream partner” profile app: enter your birth date, time, and place, and get a sketch portrait plus ten chapters of romance readings, unlocked by buying virtual currency per use.

**Why it took off** Amora already popularized this format on Vietnamese TikTok. Nym caught people who found the English version too expensive or too foreign, with Vietnamese wording, local astrology framing, and a cheaper one-time payment, then pushed it with a wave of TikTok skit videos from alt accounts.

**C** **What you could do** Don't build the Nth soulmate-portrait app. Build the part Nym did badly: the readings. Use the destiny system locals actually believe in, get the birthplace list complete, and unlock chapters in small payments, with the portrait just as the hook. Amora popularized the format; Nym's move was translating it into Vietnamese framing and splitting the price into small pieces. Two months in, it reached 5,810K installs and the Vietnam entertainment top-grossing chart, but by early November daily new installs were down to a dozen or so. Below: how it took off, why it stalled, and whether this path is worth your time.

On Oct 27, 2026, a TikTok account with 0 followers, @gianguyn294, posted a couple video captioned only "Khó tin mà k biết cãi sao luôn:))" ("Hard to believe, don't even know how to argue with that"), tagged #soulmate #nYM #couple. It got 1,083 views. On Nov 3 it posted a similar one.

The same day (10-27), the account @spiderpann, with 105K followers and usually doing MILO and Liên Quân (Vietnamese Honor of Kings) sponsored posts, published a video tagged only #nym #nymsoulmate, reaching 28.5K views. Earlier, in October 21, an account with 3,854 followers wrote "Didn't believe the trend until I met him" and got 5,649 views; in October 15, an account with 28 followers wrote "Never expected to be this lucky, I actually found my soulmate."

Those videos ran during Nym's peak installs week: about 300–370 a day from 10-26 to 11-02 (AppstoreSpy estimate). Then the videos stopped and so did the installs: 11-03 was 143 installs, and from 11-04 to 11-06 it averaged about 17 a day.

### What it sells

The first line of the Google Play listing reads: "Not a name, not a prophecy. A portrait: draw the face your heart has been waiting for." The flow:

- You can also ask questions about the results, run compatibility checks, and chat.

Payment is via the virtual currency "Moons", bought in one-time packs, with store prices of $3.79–7.49 per item. The first two questions are free; after that, chapters, portraits, and Q&A all cost coins. The terms contain no subscription (nym-soulmate.com/terms). Besides the app there is a web version, nym-soulmate.com, which opens straight into a chat: "I'm Nym, what's your name?"

Listed on 2026-09-03; the developer is AUTOMOS JSC on Google Play, while the "About the developer" section gives EWAY GLOBAL PTE. LTD., a Singapore address with a Vietnamese phone number. It is only listed in Vietnam.

### Amora proved this business first

Nym didn't invent this. It entered a market that had already been educated.

Amora: A Hint of Your Soulmate (Lit Apps) launched on iOS in July 2025 and on Google Play in September, with 3.99M installs on Play. Its biggest market is precisely Vietnam: 17,738 ratings on the Vietnam iOS store, best top-grossing rank #14, ahead of Indonesia (6,295) and Brazil (6,176). From December 2025 to February 2026, individual Amora videos on Vietnamese TikTok reached hundreds of thousands of views (@xixi.baby 1 837K, @tinhduyenamora 596K), and an account dedicated to "watching Amora for you", @soulmateamorashop, appeared with 648K views on a single post.

The "watch-for-you" detail is key: people will pay someone else to look for them, which means users want the result but find Amora's subscription expensive, the English interface awkward, or payment a hassle. Nym targeted exactly that group.

### How it made the bestseller chart

On Vietnam's Google Play entertainment top-grossing chart, Nym ranked #10-29 at 54 and 11-06 at #59. Only five or six thousand installs were needed to get in, for three reasons:

**The chart bar is low.** Ahead of Nym on Vietnam's entertainment top-grossing chart are short-drama apps like DramaWave and ReelShort and AI companion apps like Dokichat, and revenue drops off quickly further down. Next to Nym at #11-06 is Litmatch Lite at #58, and at #60 is an AI photo-video tool with 250K installs. Ranking at #59 means absolute revenue is probably small, likely a few thousand dollars a month or less (inference; no public revenue).

**Local framing.** Amora talks about zodiac signs and "soulmates"; Nym talks about "ngày, giờ, nơi sinh" (birth date, hour, place) and birth charts, the phrasing Vietnamese people know from Tử Vi and Bát Tự, which more people believe.

**Splitting one moment of curiosity into ten small payments.** The first two questions are free, and each later chapter is unlocked separately at a few dollars, with no subscription. Few people install, but a fair share pay, which is why a low install count can still reach the bestseller chart.

No press coverage, and nothing turns up on X. Store recommendations and ASO leave no trace. One detail: the store copy addresses "her", aimed at men, while the Facebook posts say "him", aimed at women, which suggests possibly separate gender-targeted campaigns (inference).

### Why it stalled

**A new-install cliff.** A dozen or so installs a day from 11-04 on means no organic growth; it went quiet as soon as paid pushing stopped.

**Bad reviews.** On 11-06 the store page has 2.6 stars and 5 reviews, and the three visible ones are all negative: "No option for my hometown, 1 stars" (10-22), "bào tiền" (ripoff, 10-28), and a "😑" (11-04). A birth-location-based reading that doesn't let you pick your own birthplace is the worst mistake this kind of product can make.

**Too many free substitutes.** TikTok is full of tutorials on "drawing your soulmate with ChatGPT / Gemini" (@ttmusic1209 has one with 530K views), CapCut has templates, and TikTok has filters. ### If it were you

**Verdict:** there's something to learn, but I wouldn't copy it. Nym shows that taking a mystical app that others popularized on your country's TikTok, making it native-language, and splitting it into small payments can reach a small country's bestseller chart within weeks. It also shows that the ceiling for this kind of product is low, and it goes quiet the moment paid pushing stops.

**Who it suits:** small teams that already have a local TikTok burner-account network or KOC resources and can cheaply post dozens of story videos; or people already making fortune-telling or zodiac content who want to add a paid outlet. Ideally the native language is one Amora hasn't seriously tackled (Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Brazilian Portuguese are all known Amora strongholds; which others remain unclaimed hasn't been checked one by one).

**Who it doesn't suit:** anyone hoping to differentiate on the "AI portrait" itself (the portrait is already a free feature); anyone targeting English, Indonesian, or Portuguese (Amora and Top Infinity are already in those markets); anyone counting on organic growth (Nym dropped to a dozen installs a day once pushing stopped).

**How to do it:** don't build the Nth portrait app; build the part Nym left undone: the readings. Use the destiny system locals genuinely believe in (Vietnam's Tử Vi, Thailand's star-based fortune-telling, India's Vedic astrology), make the birthplace list complete, keep the first two questions free, unlock chapters one by one, and sell one-time coin packs rather than a subscription. Web first, and taking local wallets for payment is better. Keep the portrait as the hook only.

**How to get users:** follow Nym's approach: burner accounts post story videos like "Didn't believe the trend until I met him", backed by a few mid-tier creators; on Facebook, run engagement bait like "Close your eyes and think of someone, what's the first letter of their name". Search TikTok in the local language for "watch-for-you + product name"; if people are offering that service, the demand is there, and the obstacle is price or language.

**When to move:** mystical entertainment apps ride TikTok trends, so a market's heat usually lasts only a few months. If you're going to do it, launch within one or two months of the "watch-for-you" accounts appearing locally; in Vietnam's wave, Nym has already taken its share.
