16k installs and it's in the German and French dating Top Grossing charts: HERZY doesn't sell dates, it sells someone chatting with you, one message at a time
What it is A dating-looking app that is really paid chat: the profiles on the other side are fictional, staffed by people on the back end who chat with you, and each message you send costs coins.
Why it's taking off A small share of users keep topping up, so each paying user spends a lot. Then Meta ads optimized on purchase value find more of them, and launching separate brands in Germany and France pushed a small number of installs into the top charts.
DHow you can follow it Don't copy the made-up material in this section; what you can take is the playbook: launch a separate brand and store page for each language, send purchase value back to Meta from your website for ad optimization, and use daily coin check-ins to lift retention, applied to a compliant pay-per-use product.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-15 · 11-07 installs 15,854
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
HERZY looks like an ordinary German dating app, and in France it renamed itself ÉPRIS. It only launched in September, has under 16k global installs, yet it charted in the top 50 of the dating Top Grossing charts in both Germany and France on Google Play. The reason is spelled out in its own terms of use: the profiles in the app are fictional, the people you chat with are staffed by the operator, and each message costs a coin. This setup has run in Germany for over a decade; HERZY is just the latest sign on the door. Below: how it makes money, what drove its traffic, how many competitors there are, and whether there's anything here you can take.
A French complaint, answered in German
In 2026 Sep 22, French user Jocelyn Lgn left a review on ÉPRIS's store page: "The woman might be hired to keep you chatting and make you buy coins. Be careful, don't spend too much 😉". 9 people marked it helpful. The day before, another French user was blunter: "Always having to pay, and all the profiles are fake."
On Oct 9 another French review complained that "chatting costs money, put me off". A week later the developer replied, in German: "Hallo, es gibt bei uns keine Anmeldegebühr für die App." (Hello, our app has no sign-up fee.)
That German sentence shows who is behind this French brand. On the German side, a user Robin D wrote in Sep 30: "You are the biggest scammers I've dealt with, reply or I'll take legal action." On Sep 15, the launch date the store shows, the first negative review was already up: "Don't touch it, it's just a way to take your money, and those women aren't from the places their profiles claim."
Its terms say something different from its store page
The German store page reads "Echte Profile mit Steckbrief, Interessen & „Über mich"" (real profiles with a bio, interests and an "about me") and "nur echte Begegnungen" (only real meetings). The website herzy.app has the headline "Dating, das sich echt anfühlt" (dating that feels real), with a small line beside it: "Profile mit Moderation" (profiles with moderation).
Section 2 of the terms of use (legal.herzy.app/agb, August 2026 version) is titled "Contract subject matter and fictional profiles". The original text says:
Herzy ist ein Unterhaltungsdienst … Im Dienst werden ausdrücklich fiktive Profile eingesetzt … Ein persönliches Treffen mit den hinter fiktiven Profilen agierenden Personen ist nicht möglich … kein Kontakt-, Partnervermittlungs- oder Dating-Dienst.
In plain terms: Herzy is an entertainment service that explicitly uses fictional profiles; the people behind the profiles cannot meet you; it is not a dating or matchmaking service. Section 5 prices by "each message or each service", with coins bought first and then spent. The store lists in-app purchases from $0.59 to $289.99 per tier (Google Play, 11-06). The Nov 4 update added just one thing: in settings you can see which of the last seven days you claimed the "daily coins".
So the "Moderation" in "Profile mit Moderation" doesn't mean review. In this context it means people on the back end playing those profiles. Germany's Verbraucherzentrale (consumer advice centre) has written about this type of platform: the people chatting with you are "Moderatoren / Controller / Animateure", and it lists the wording commonly used in terms to hide this. Courts in Berlin and Flensburg have also ruled that a sentence in the terms is not enough; it must be clearly disclosed before sign-up.
16k installs, how did it hit the charts?
The Google Play numbers (11-06): 15,854 total installs globally, +1,985 over the last 7 days. In the German dating category it ranks #41 on Top Free and #46 on Top Grossing; in France it ranks #27 on Top Free and #32 on Top Grossing, and it first entered the French Top Grossing chart on Nov 6. The French Top Free chart 10-29 it climbed from #40,11-03 to #24.
The apps next to it are on a completely different scale: Flirtduo, #45 on German Top Grossing, has 26k installs, and CSL, #47, has over twenty million. HERZY reaches the same spot with a tenth or even a thousandth of the users, which can only mean one thing: each paying user pays a lot. Reading the reviews, almost all the writers are men, and the complaints are about having to pay to chat. A product that charges per message and promises someone will reply probably earns most of its money from a few people who can't stop (inference, no revenue is public).
It also shows up on the top charts of more than a dozen countries, including Vietnam, India, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong, with ranks hovering around 100 and changing daily, with the same handful of apps nearby. This looks more like a roundup of the dating Top Grossing long tail than real revenue in those countries. The money is in Germany and France.
The install curve (third-party estimate) shows the timing of the spend. By Sep 10 it already had about 1,100 installs, earlier than the launch date the store shows (a third-party site lists it as live from August 2026, so the launch date was likely reset). On Oct 4 it added about +2,383 in a day, and on Oct 9 another +1,056, then it settled at 200 to 500 a day.
Where users come from: Meta ads, which the website itself says
| Channel | What we saw | How sure are we? |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook / Instagram ads | The website states: "With your consent, we report completed sign-ups and purchases (amount and currency) to Meta to measure ads", using the Meta Pixel plus the Conversions API. The Facebook page "Herzy: Dating App" has 45 followers but 768 people talking about it, the typical profile of an ad-running page. The one-day spikes in 10-04 and 10-09 also fit. | Paid acquisition is almost certain; creatives and spend weren't visible |
| Store search | Each language gets its own name: German "HERZY – Dating und Verlieben", French "ÉPRIS - Rencontres & Amour", with the whole description rewritten in French to pick up the "dating" keywords in both countries. Once it climbed the free charts, it picked up some organic traffic. | Certain |
| Positive reviews | Among the German reviews is one like "My name is Jürgen, here you can meet beautiful, great, hot women, I recommend it to everyone, sehr geil und super", sitting among a row of "scam" complaints. | Looks like seeding, not confirmed |
No trace of it on TikTok, X, Reddit or in the media. This product doesn't spread through content; it works because Meta receives every purchase amount and can then go looking for the next person who spends. High spend per user is what pays for the not-cheap paid acquisition in Germany and France.
At least ten competitors, many on the same back end
On the German dating charts on Google Play, a long list of apps run the same model. Several have stated on their websites or in their terms that they use fictional profiles, and most sit under offshore company names:
| Product | Company | Launched | Installs | Rank (German dating) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snoggle | Joy Media AG | Legacy product | 1.23M | Free 1 / Grossing 4 |
| Tavoo | Bluewater Applications | Legacy product | 288k | Free 3 / Grossing 5 |
| iCatched | Mayo Advice Limited | 2020-02 | 846k | Free 51, website states "uses fictitious profiles" |
| Joula | Mayo Advice Limited | 2022-08 | 225k | Top Free 97 |
| Hellovy | NetMediaVision GmbH | 2024-11 | 109k | Free 24 / Grossing 24 |
| BaseChat | TELPASS | 2024-04 | 190k | Top Grossing 44 |
| iSingles | QUVY CORE Pte. Ltd. | 2025-05 | 134k | Charted in 11,18 Italian countries |
| Flirtduo | CYBERDREAM PTE LTD | 2025-10 | 26k | Top Grossing 45 |
| ZumDaten | M.M SPACECORE Ltd. | 2026-01 | 15k | Top Grossing 33 |
| Ludessa | Netrobyy | 2026-01 | 16k | Top Free 46 |
Data: Google Play, 11-06. In the web era there were older sites like Herzoo.de, and review sites and Trustpilot are full of "Abzocke" (rip-off) discussions.
New brands have appeared several times a year: 2025-10 Flirtduo, 2026-01 ZumDaten and Ludessa, 2026-09 HERZY. HERZY's pattern also shows it's a reskin: within 7 weeks of launch its version number was already at 1.3.51, the package name com.nyu has nothing to do with the brand, and the company is a "digital marketing" firm in Paphos, Cyprus with an almost empty website. When an old brand attracts bad reviews and consumer-group attention, they swap in a new sign and register a new company to keep selling (inference, consistent with how competitors launch).
The one visible difference between HERZY and its peers: it also went after France. Germany is the home base of this model, France has few similar apps, and HERZY ranks better in France (free #27) than in Germany (free #41).
If it were you
Verdict: Worth knowing about, not worth copying. HERZY got going on a model that has run for over a decade, where fictional profiles and human-staffed chat keep a small group of users topping up, plus skilled Meta ad buying. The model itself depends on misleading users: Germany has court rulings, consumer groups have named it publicly, there are at least ten rebranded apps using the same play, and the product itself has nothing new.
Who it fits: Only someone who understands this business and then builds an open, compliant version: an entertainment chat product that clearly says the other side is AI or a writer. But that's a different market, and the AI companion app space is just as crowded.
Who it doesn't fit: Anyone who wants to copy it. The store page says "real profiles", the terms say "fictional profiles"; that could mean a lawsuit at any time, or removal by Google Play for deceptive practices, and once it's pulled, the ad spend goes with it. It's also not for anyone counting on organic growth, because without ads it has no traffic.
How to do it: What you can take is the playbook, not the product. ① Give each language its own brand and store page instead of a translated English name; HERZY ranked better in France after switching to ÉPRIS than it did in Germany. ② Connect the website to the Meta Conversions API and feed purchase amounts back so ads find people who will pay. ③ Use hooks like a "daily coins" check-in to pull people back. These three moves work for any pay-per-use product.
How to get users: Its approach is Meta ads with purchase feedback, plus store search in both countries. If you're building a compliant version, first test payback periods on a small budget in a language market with few products like this (France is an example), work out how much one paying user is worth, and only then decide whether to scale.
Is there a window: No time window here. This business has existed in Germany for years; it won't vanish overnight or suddenly empty out. What's more likely to change is regulation: if Google Play or EU consumer protection starts a coordinated crackdown, this whole batch of rebranded apps could come down together.
Signs this analysis is wrong: ① HERZY or a peer puts "fictional profiles, entertainment service" prominently on the first screen of the store page and its rank and revenue hold, showing a compliant version can still make money, so the open route works; ② a new large language market beyond France, Italy and Spain appears with no one serving it, and similar apps easily reach the top 30, showing there's still room in other regions; ③ six months from now HERZY is still around and installs pass 100k, showing this round of ad efficiency is higher than estimated here.

One line
HERZY is not a real dating app. It is a long-running category in the German-speaking (DACH) market: moderated chat / fictitious-profile coin-chat products. The people chatting with users in the app are writers hired by the operator (moderators), coins are sold per message, and this is only disclosed in the terms of use (AGB). It reaches Top Grossing rankings because this model extracts a lot from each user, not because it has many users. Users are bought through Meta ads. Our library shows at least 10 reskinned peers running the same playbook.
1. What it actually is (key finding)
- The store listing and official site both say "real profiles" and "real conversations" (Play Germany listing: "Echte Profile mit Steckbrief…"; official herzy.app/de: "Dating, das sich echt anfühlt … Profile mit Moderation").
- But the text of AGB clause 2, "Vertragsgegenstand & fiktive Profile", reads: "Herzy ist ein Unterhaltungsdienst … Im Dienst werden ausdrücklich fiktive Profile eingesetzt … Ein persönliches Treffen mit den hinter fiktiven Profilen agierenden Personen ist nicht möglich … kein Kontakt-, Partnervermittlungs- oder Dating-Dienst". In plain terms: it is an entertainment service, it explicitly uses fictitious profiles, the people behind those profiles cannot meet you, and it is not a dating service. Source: legal.herzy.app/agb (2026-08 version)
- Monetization: coins deducted per message (AGB clause 5, "Preis pro Nachricht"), in-app purchases from $0.59–$289.99 tiers (googleplay library app_snap). 11-04's update notes mention "Daily Coins", a daily coin check-in, a classic retention and payment hook.
- The Verbraucherzentrale (German Consumer Advice Centre) has said these platforms impersonate users with "Moderatoren / Controller / Animateure" and listed the wording commonly used in AGBs to identify them. The Berlin and Flensburg regional courts (LG Berlin / LG Flensburg) have also ruled that disclosure buried in terms is not enough; it has to be prominently stated before sign-up. Source: www.verbraucherzentrale.de/wissen/digitale-welt/onlinedienst…
- Users in the reviews are already saying so. Germany: "Finger weg nur geldmacherei" (hands off, it's just a money grab; 2026-09-15), "ihr seit die größten Betrüger" (you're the biggest scammers; 2026-09-30, the developer replied telling him to contact support). France: "femmes potentiellement engagées pour faire de la rétention conversationnelle et vous faire payer des \"coins\"" (women possibly hired to hold you in conversation and make you buy coins; 2026-09-22), "il n'y a que des faux profils" (only fake profiles). Ratings: Germany 4.0 / 171 reviews, France 3.6 / 171 reviews (Play page, 2026-11-06). Some positive reviews look engineered (e.g. "sehr geil und super").
2. Data
- Cumulative global installs 15,854 (2026-11-06), +1,985 over the last 7 days (googleplay library).
- Install curve since launch (AppstoreSpy estimate, app_day_ext): 09-10 already had 1,096 installs, earlier than the first-release date the store shows, 09-15, which suggests the release date was reset (AppBrain writes "since August 2026", and the privacy policy is also dated 2026-08). Afterwards 09-24 to 2,906,10-03 to 4,641; 10-04 about +2,383 a day, 10-09 another +1,056, a clear paid-acquisition pulse; from mid-October it has leveled off at 200–500 a day.
- Charts (googleplay library, 2026-11-06): Germany DATING Top Free 41, Top Grossing 46; France Top Free 27, Top Grossing 32 (it first entered the French Top Grossing at 11-06). The French Top Free rank climbed from 10-29 at 40 to 11-03 at 24.
- With only 16k installs it has entered the top 50 Dating Top Grossing in Germany and France. Other apps at that rank typically have hundreds of thousands to millions of installs (e.g. Germany's 45 Flirtduo at 26k, 47 CSL at 23.7M). That means each user pays very heavily, consistent with the coin-chat model.
- Its top rankings in those 16 small countries (ae / hk / in / my / sa / vn / za…) all sit around 100 and shift daily, with the same apps nearby (UkraineDate, Ahing, Fyra…). It looks like an aggregate of the long tail of Dating Top Grossing, not evidence of real revenue in those countries. The real revenue comes from Germany and France (possibly Austria and Switzerland too; Similarweb has an Austria page).
3. Competitors: Germany's moderated coin-chat industry
Our library shows the privacy policy at "/datenschutz". Many DATING apps follow the same model (several have stated in their official sites or AGBs that they use fictitious profiles), and most sit under offshore shell companies:
| Product | Developer | Launched | Installs (library) | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snoggle | Joy Media AG | Unknown | 1.23M | Germany DATING Top Free 1 / Top Grossing 4 |
| Tavoo | Bluewater Applications | Unknown | 288k | Germany Top Free 3 / Top Grossing 5 |
| iCatched | Mayo Advice Limited | 2020-02 | 846k | Germany Top Free 51; official site explicitly states "uses fictitious profiles" |
| Joula | Mayo Advice Limited | 2022-08 | 225k | Germany Top Free 97 |
| iSingles | QUVY CORE Pte. Ltd. | 2025-05 | 134k | Italy Top Grossing 11,18 countries |
| Hellovy | NetMediaVision GmbH | 2024-11 | 109k | Germany Top Free 24 / Top Grossing 24 |
| Flirtduo | CYBERDREAM PTE LTD | 2025-10 | 26k | Germany Top Grossing 45 |
| ZumDaten | M.M SPACECORE Ltd. | 2026-01 | 15k | Germany Top Grossing 33 |
| Ludessa (luvma) | Netrobyy | 2026-01 | 16k | Germany Top Free 46 |
| BaseChat | TELPASS (Turkey) | 2024-04 | 190k | Germany Top Grossing 44 |
There are also long-running web-based sites in the same category (Herzoo.de and others), with lots of "Abzocke" (scam) discussion on Trustpilot and review sites. Real dating apps (Tinder / Bumble / Badoo / Lovoo / Parship) are a different thing: they sell matches with real people. HERZY sells entertainment chat that "guarantees someone replies and flirts with you."
The difference from peers is small: all are swipe plus coins, German-language brands, offshore companies, and one line hidden in the AGB. What stands out about HERZY: (1) when entering France it swapped the whole setup to a French-language brand, ÉPRIS, running Germany and France together. France has fewer of these products and weaker competition, so it ranks higher there than in Germany; (2) the official site has landing pages per region and runs the Meta Pixel plus Conversions API (the site says plainly it reports completed registrations and purchases to Meta), which is mature paid-acquisition attribution; (3) version 1.3.x, and it reached 1.3.51 within 7 weeks of listing. The com.nyu package prefix has nothing to do with the brand, which points to a ready-made white-label backend reskinned and launched, not built from scratch.
4. Where users come from
- Meta ads (highly likely, but no direct creatives seen in our ad library): the official site uses both the Meta Pixel and CAPI to report sign-ups and purchase amounts; the Facebook page "Herzy: Dating App" has only 45 followers but "768 talking about this", a lot of engagement for few followers, typical of a promoted page (source: facebook.com/p/Herzy-Dating-App-61593333073869); the install curve's 10-04 and 10-09 single-day spikes also match an ad-buying rhythm. Our metaads / tiktokads libraries do not track this company (not finding it doesn't mean it isn't advertising).
- Store search / ASO: each language gets its own name (German "Dating und Verlieben", French "ÉPRIS - Rencontres & Amour"), using Dating keywords to capture organic search. Once it climbed the free charts, it picked up some organic traffic too.
- Reviews: some of the praise looks engineered to offset negative reviews, keeping the rating at 4.0. Not confirmed as fake.
- TikTok, X, Reddit, media: nothing found (TikHub and x-radar 0 results).
5. Why it took off
- The model itself extracts a lot per user: writers chat for pay, every message costs coins, top tier at $289.99; lonely middle-aged male users (reviews are overwhelmingly from men) keep paying, so 16k installs is enough to reach the top 50 of Germany's and France's Top Grossing.
- Paid acquisition pays back: Meta CAPI reports purchase amounts, so you can optimize for ROAS; high per-user spend supports the higher CPMs of the German and French markets.
- Fast reskinning, rebranding: white-label backend; a new brand only needs a new name, new graphics, and a new offshore company. When an old brand draws bad reviews and consumer-group attention, a new brand keeps selling. This is why similar companies keep appearing (2025-10 Flirtduo, 2026-01 ZumDaten / Ludessa, 2026-09 HERZY).
- The French market is emptier: Germany is the home of this model, France has fewer similar products, and entering with the French-language brand ÉPRIS ranks higher than the German listing.
6. How many people know about it
- Revenue is not public, and no media outlet or large X account has written about it; searching "Herzy" turns up only store pages, APK sites, and Similarweb. But this business in Germany is widely known, publicly warned about by consumer groups, and has been sued. It is a gray-market industry, already crowded, not a blue ocean.
7. What to borrow (and what not to)
- Worth borrowing: separate brands and landing pages per language, Meta CAPI sending purchase value back for ROAS-based buying, daily coin check-in as a retention hook, white-label backend running multiple brands in parallel.
- Risk: this model has a written German court precedent: before signup, the fake profiles must be clearly disclosed, or it counts as misleading advertising. HERZY's store page says "real profiles", its website says "Dating, das sich echt anfühlt" (dating that feels real), which contradicts its own AGB. It risks a consumer-group lawsuit and removal from Google Play for deceptive practices. Not recommended to copy this model.
8. Still unclear
- The specific Meta ads, spend, and regions (not in our ad library).
- Actual revenue: we only have chart ranks, so there's no way to convert them to money.
- Whether there's an iOS version: the privacy policy says there is, but our appstore library didn't find it, and the Apple search API was rate-limited this time.
- Whether Solvico Ltd has other brands behind it (its website is a shell "digital marketing" company; other companies at the same address and under the same registration agent weren't checked).
- The +2,383 on 10-04 came from either paid acquisition or AppstoreSpy backfilling data and spreading it across days.
