"I thought it was Higgsfield": how a Korean developer sold weekly subscriptions on the store under someone else's name
What it is: an AI video app listed only in Korea. Pick a viral template, upload a selfie, and get a vertical video in a few minutes. Its name uses the Korean spelling of Higgsfield directly.
Why it took off: Higgsfield spent money on content in Korea to build its reputation, but the official presence is web-only. People who got interested searched the app stores for 힉스필드, and what came up was this app. Many assumed it was the official app and impulsively bought the 24,900 won-per-week subscription.
CHow you could follow this: don't pass off someone else's trademark. Learn the method instead: find AI brands that suddenly take off in one country but have no official or local-language app in that country's stores. Build only the use case that's hottest there, name it by category, and use local social content and creators to catch the same wave of demand.

The Korean App Store and Google Play have an app called 힉스필드 Video AI. 힉스필드 is the Korean spelling of Higgsfield, and Higgsfield itself has no mobile app. A solo developer in Seoul took the name. In just over two months it reached roughly 20K installs and ranked #20 or so on Korea's Utilities grossing chart. Below: how it works, where the money comes from, why you shouldn't copy it, and which part of this playbook you can legitimately take.
A 1-star review
In Oct 29, a Korean App Store user gave it a 1-star review titled "이거 진짜 최악이네요" (this is seriously the worst), with a single line of text:
I tapped subscribe thinking it was Higgsfield, my bad ㅠㅠ please refund me (힉스필드인줄 알고 구독 누른 내가 잘못이지 ㅠㅠ 환불해주세요 제발)
It's not an isolated case. In Oct 18 someone wrote "내가 알던 힉스필드도 아니고" (it's not even the Higgsfield I know), in Oct 21 "제가알던 힉스필드가 아니네요" (not the Higgsfield I knew, I didn't use a single credit, please refund), in Oct 23 the title was simply "보이스피싱 같네요" (feels like a phishing scam) with the body "가짜 힉스필드" (fake Higgsfield), and in Nov 3 "짝퉁인가" (is this a knockoff?). When replying to these reviews, the developer opens with "안녕하세요, 힉스필드 AI 팀입니다" (Hello, this is the Higgsfield AI team).
Its iOS average rating is 2.4 (45 ratings, Korean App Store, 11-06). Of its last 15 reviews, 13 are 1 stars. Yet it sat on the Korean "Photo & Video" grossing chart, and from Oct 28 to Nov 6 it ranked between #23 and #29 every day.
What it is
The store title is "힉스필드 Video AI - 바이럴 영상을 내꺼로" (turn viral videos into yours). The English name on Play is Highfield AI Video Generator, just a few letters off from Higgsfield. The first line of the Korean Play description reads "힉스필드는 사진 한 장으로 바이럴 숏폼 동영상을 만드는 AI 영상 생성기예요" (Higgsfield is an AI video generator that makes viral short-form videos from a single photo).
The feature set is simple: pick a template pulled from viral videos (travel, fancam, pets, "quiet luxury" style, award ceremony, product ads for whatever you're selling), upload a selfie, and get a vertical video in a few minutes with no prompt writing. Pro is a weekly subscription that grants credits each week.
On Android it launched in Sep 13, on iOS in Sep 18, and only in Korea. On Play the developer is listed as Thing Apps (띵앱스, a solo business in Yongsan, Seoul). On iOS it's credited to Dongwon Ahn. Several versions shipped from Nov 3 to 6, and it's still being updated.
Where the traffic comes from: people searching the store for "힉스필드"
The demand was built by Higgsfield itself, with paid spend. It worked with the Korean agency Feed Media to seed Instagram magazine accounts, AI creators, and prompt-sharing posts across Korea. Monthly searches for "힉스필드" on Naver went from 2025 in November 6,200 to 2026 in July 76,400 (feedmedia.io, 7-27). A co-founder said on LinkedIn that Korea is already Higgsfield's second-largest market worldwide. The most popular use in Korea is "Viral Presets": upload a photo, get a viral video, and Naver has ready-made tutorials.
But Higgsfield's official help page is explicit: there is no mobile app and no desktop app, only the web. A Reddit user asked "Does Higgsfield have a good mobile app?" and the reply was "the ones in the store are all fake."
Then a Korean user who'd been hyped on Higgsfield pulls out their phone, searches the store for 「힉스필드」, and this app comes up. It does three things: it squats the Korean transliteration of the brand name; its subtitle names the feature that's hottest for Higgsfield in Korea; and its English name is a near-miss, Highfield.
The other route in is Instagram. A comment from Oct 22 reads 「인플루언서가 올린 귀여운 AI영상 프롬프트 나눔 글에서 이 앱을 이용하라고 해서 다운함」 (an influencer's cute AI video prompt-sharing post told people to use this app, so I downloaded it). Whether an influencer promoted Higgsfield and the user got the wrong app, or the developer paid the influencer, we can't tell (unverified). We found no ads for it in Meta's public ad library.
On the numbers: Play lifetime installs went from Oct 29 9,628 to Nov 6 19,873, doubling in a week (public Google Play install counts). But in the Korea Tools free chart it slid from #94 to #197, so new installs are slowing.
Where the money comes from: subscriptions in the week after the mix-up
Weekly subscription 24,900 KRW (about $18). One reviewer did the math: "다른 어플 주에 6600원인데 이건 24900원" (other apps are 6,600 KRW a week, this one is 24,900), and "Too expensive for what it does. I thought it would work better for the price. It only lets you do 2 items, not 3, and it can't recognize photos well, and there's no preview." The in-app purchases on Google Play are listed at $16.99 to $54.99 each.
The paywall sits before any output, so the money arrives before users realize this isn't Higgsfield. The negative reviews are full of 「退款」「取消订阅」「出来的是别人的脸」「模板没几个」 (refund, cancel subscription, the output is someone else's face, not many templates), so retention is probably poor (inferred). It held a top-#19 spot in the Korea Tools Top Grossing chart, falling to #26, and it's the high price that keeps it there: that chart isn't hard to reach, and a $18 weekly subscription only needs a modest number of buyers to rank in the top 30. Real revenue and refund rates aren't visible from outside.
This developer has done it before. Their earlier app 「나노 바나나」 rode the Google Nano Banana name, got 225k installs on Play, and reached #34 to #35 in Korea's Lifestyle Top Grossing. Before that, they made the Instagram repost tool 멀티 리그램 (1.36M installs on Play). So this is someone who builds for Korean Instagram users and chases overseas AI buzzwords, and this is the same playbook working a second time.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from the others |
|---|---|---|
| Higgsfield official | Korea Naver monthly searches 76k | Web only, no app store presence |
| Highfield Genjutsu AI(Passio Technology,iOS,2025-07) | Top 30–200 in category charts across dozens of countries, with per-country ratings in the tens | Same name-riding, but in English and global. Doesn't rank for the Korean-language name search |
| Highfield Video AI(Metro Air Service,iOS,2026-08) | Multi-country category charts, rating near 0 | Same as above |
| Highfield AI(HIC BRICKWORK,Play) | 180 installs | Newly appeared copycats |
| Kling AI | 34.8M Play installs, #1 in Korea's Art & Design Top Grossing | Official brand, requires writing prompts. Doesn't show up for 「힉스필드」 |
| PixVerse, Hailuo, Vidix, Nexus, etc. | Hundreds of thousands to tens of millions of installs | Same features (photo + template → video), no brand-name traffic |
| AI effects from CapCut, SNOW, EPIK | Hundreds of millions of installs | Big players already have templated AI video |
There's no product difference. The whole market is doing 'one photo + template → video.' What it does own is a position: the Korean store, the Korean name 「힉스필드」, and mobile.
how many people know it
No press coverage of this app, nothing on X, and no disclosed revenue. But the 'fake Higgsfield app' problem has been called out: there's a Reddit thread, 'Fake Higgsfield AI apps on the Google Play Store,' and Higgsfield's official site has a help page listing its official platforms. The playbook is widely known and plenty of people are copying it. Only this one has held the Korean-localized position so far.
If it were you
Bottom line: Don't copy it. It earns from users who mistake it for the real thing. A trademark complaint or a store impersonation review could take it down, and refunds and bad reviews are rising alongside. What's worth taking is how to spot the gap: a foreign AI brand has taken off in one country, but the local app stores are empty.
Good fit for: Small teams that know a non-English market well (Korea, Japan, Germany, Brazil...) including its stores and social platforms, who already have an AI generation backend and can ship a single-use-case app within a week.
Not for: Anyone aiming for a durable product. Apps like this have their lifespan set by someone else: the day the official brand ships an app or files a complaint, the traffic is gone. Also not for anyone unwilling to take on store policy risk.
How to do it: Watch AI brands whose search volume spikes in one country while they have only a website or no local-language app. Find the specific use case that's hottest there (here, 「one photo → viral video」), build only that one, and explain it clearly in the local language. Name it with a category term such as 「바이럴 AI 영상」 or 「사진 한 장 영상」, not the competitor's trademark. Put the paywall before output, sell a weekly subscription, but give a free preview that shows real results so refunds stay down.
How to get users: Category keyword search in the store, plus local Instagram and TikTok prompt-sharing posts and influencer partnerships, to catch the same people who were hyped. You won't get the brand-name traffic, so content has to make up the difference.
When to move: The window follows the buzzword. From an AI brand catching on in one country to its official app launch is usually a few months. Higgsfield has been hot in Korea for over half a year, so this wave is late. What to look for is the next one.
Signs you've misread it: If its traffic dies once it's removed or renamed, the business ran entirely on the brand name, and a category-term version of the same thing won't capture demand. If Higgsfield ships an official app and this one's traffic holds, users actually wanted 'local language + no prompts + one-tap video on mobile,' and that use case is worth building.

Why 힉스필드 Video AI / Highfield AI Video Generator (com.omnivideoai.app) showed up
In one line: A wrapper app by Korean indie developer Dongwon Ahn (띵앱스 / Thing Apps) that turns 「pick a viral template + one selfie → vertical AI video」. The Korean store title is literally 「힉스필드 Video AI」 (힉스필드 is the Korean spelling of Higgsfield). Higgsfield took off in Korea 2026 year(s) ago, but the official brand has no mobile app at all. This app captures Korean users who search the store for 「힉스필드」 and charges 24,900 won weekly. It's built on name-riding plus brand-search traffic capture, not on the product itself. The same developer did this once before last year with 「나노 바나나 (Nano Banana)」, and this is the second run.
1. Data (our database, 2026-11-06)
- Google Play (googleplay database): Global lifetime installs were 2026-10-29 as of 9,628 and 11-06 as of 19,873, up +7 over the past 10,245 days, about 1,000–1,500 per day. Charted in only 1 country (Korea).
- Korea TOOLS Top Grossing: 10-29 #19 → 11-06 #26; TOOLS Top Free: #94 → #197. The free chart rank dropped faster than the grossing rank, which means new installs are slowing, but paying users are still holding up.

- Korea store page (2026-11-06 read): 3.8 stars, 94 reviews, 1만+ install tier.
- iOS (appstore database, id 6808443618, same product, developer listed as Dongwon Ahn, released 2026-09-18, Korea storefront only):
- In the Korea Photo & Video category, the free chart rank ranged from #15 to #23 and the grossing chart from #23 to #29 (10-28 to 11-06 it charted every day).
- Rating count went from 10-28 to 20,11-06 to 45, adding 2–5 reviews a day. Average 2.4 (Korea App Store page).

Older titles include 멀티 리그램 (Instagram repost tool, 21,380 iOS ratings in Korea; 1.37M Play installs), 뉴친스 (dating, 9,077 ratings), and a Nano Banana app: AI Art & 3D Maker / 나노 바나나 (225k Play installs, Korea LIFESTYLE Top Grossing #34–35; on iOS as Nanaba AI 나나바, 333 ratings). The latest is 「우리 결혼했어요! - AI 웨딩스냅」.
2. Competitors
| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Higgsfield official | Web | Since 2024 | Korea is its #2 market globally, and it grew an average of 55% per month over 14 months (co-founder's LinkedIn). Naver monthly searches were 76.4k (2026-06-26 to 07-26, feedmedia.io). | The official brand has only a website and no mobile app (official help page 「What are the official Higgsfield platforms」). This app took the mobile store spot the official brand left open. It does one use case, 'Viral Presets: one image → viral video,' and packages it as requiring no prompts. |
| Highfield Genjutsu AI(Passio Technology) | iOS | 2025-07 | Top 30–200 in free Photo & Video category charts across dozens of countries, with per-country ratings in single digits to the tens. | It also rides the Higgsfield name, but its title is in English and rolled out globally. | KLING AI | iOS / Android | 2024 | 34.8M+ installs on Play, #1 Top Grossing in Korea ART_AND_DESIGN | The real brand, needs you to write your own prompts; searching the name people actually use, 「힉스필드」, doesn't surface it |
| AIReel, VifunAI, VidFox, DeeVid, Hailuo, PixVerse, Vidix, Nexus | Android / iOS | 2024–2026 | From 500K to 80M+ installs depending on the app (googleplay library) | All of them are 「photo + template → video」 with nearly identical features; the only difference is that this app owns the keyword 「힉스필드」 in the Korea store |
| AI templates from CapCut / SNOW / EPIK | Big-company features | — | Hundreds of millions of installs | Template-style AI video effects were already common |
Verdict: no real feature difference, a red ocean. The only spot it holds is 「Korea + the word 힉스필드 + the phone store」.
3. How users found it
- Store search for the brand name (core, confirmed): Korean App Store reviews keep saying they thought it was Higgsfield: 「힉스필드인줄 알고 구독 누른 내가 잘못이지」 (10-29), 「제가알던 힉스필드가 아니네요」 (10-21), 「내가 알던 힉스필드도 아니고」 (10-18), 「가짜 힉스필드」 (10-23), 「짝퉁인가」 (11-03). When replying to reviews, the developer introduces themselves as 「안녕하세요, 힉스필드 AI 팀입니다」. The English name is Highfield, close to Higgsfield; the Korean name is simply 힉스필드; the subtitle 「바이럴 영상을 내꺼로」 (make viral videos mine) matches how Higgsfield's Viral Presets are most talked about in Korea (Naver blog 《사진 한 장 올리면 바이럴 영상이 나온다: Higgsfield 바이럴 프리셋 사용법》).
- Demand Higgsfield paid to create in Korea (platform event, confirmed): Higgsfield and agency Feed Media seeded Instagram magazine accounts, AI creators, short videos and prompt-sharing content in Korea. From 2025-11 to 2026-07, Naver search volume went from 6,200 to 76,400 (feedmedia.io, 2026-07-27). Higgsfield also set up a base in Seoul (LinkedIn). Users who got hooked by the content went to the store and searched 「힉스필드」, and this app is what came up.
- Instagram creator 「prompt-sharing」 posts (one user testimonial, unverified whether paid): one comment reads 「인플루언서가 올린 귀여운 AI영상 프롬프트 나눔 글에서 이 앱을 이용하라고 해서 다운함」 (10-22); another Play review says 「인스타에서 자주보이던거 만들어보고싶었는데」. Either a creator was promoting Higgsfield and users downloaded the wrong app, or the developer paid creators to drive traffic. Can't tell which.
- Paid acquisition: none found. No advertiser in the Meta Ad Library links to com.omnivideoai.app or id6808443618 (metaads only tracks a fixed list of advertisers, so no hits doesn't mean no spend).
- Cross-promotion from existing users: possible. The developer's other app, Multi Regram, has 20K+ ratings and 1.36M+ installs on Play, with Korean Instagram users, exactly the same audience as this app. No evidence of cross-promotion found.
4. Why people are willing to pay
- Pricing: weekly subscription at ₩24,900 (review quote 「다른 어플 주에 6600원인데 이건 24900원」), plus one-time IAPs at $16.99–$54.99 each. The paywall comes before the first video is generated, and many users bought it thinking it was Higgsfield.
- Retention and satisfaction are poor: iOS average 2.4; of the latest 15 reviews, 13 are 1 stars, complaining about refunds, cancellations, output showing someone else's face, and too few templates. So revenue comes mainly from 「mistaken identity, impulse one-week subscription」, not repeat purchases. Ranking #20 on the Korea Top Grossing chart in the TOOLS category is a low bar; a high price point and an open paywall are enough.
5. How many people know about it
- No revenue disclosed; on X (x-radar, 60 days) no results for this app; no media coverage.
- The 「fake Higgsfield apps」 issue is already being discussed: a Reddit thread 《Fake Higgsfield AI apps on the Google Play Store》 exists, and Higgsfield published an official platform list in its help center. So this play is already widely known and crowded (Highfield Genjutsu, Highfield Video AI, Highfield AI, and others), but the specific position of 「Korean localization + Korean brand name」 has only this one app holding it.
- Risks: trademark or impersonation complaints can get it removed with a single filing, and store review also checks for impersonation. Negative reviews concentrate on misleading payments, so refund rates are likely high.
6. Differentiation
No product differentiation: template + one photo → video is something the whole market does. The real 「differentiation」 is distribution position: (1) picking an overseas AI brand that is hot in Korea but has no mobile app; (2) using a Korean transliteration to own the store search; (3) copying the brand's most popular local use case (viral presets / one photo). It works because of that position, not the product.
7. What others can learn
- Look for gaps: find AI brands whose search volume is spiking in a particular country but which only have a website or no localized app. In that country's language, the store search is empty. The same mechanism worked for Nano Banana, and indie developers have now validated it twice.
- How to execute: reuse the single most popular scenario from the copy instead of building an all-in-one tool; put the paywall before the first video, with a weekly subscription.
- But don't copy the impersonation: the compliant approach is to use category keywords (「바이럴 AI 영상」, 「사진 한 장 영상」) plus local creator content to capture the same demand. Using the other brand's trademark directly carries large takedown and refund risk.
8. Still unclear
- Unknown how many Play installs came from store search versus Instagram referrals, or whether creators were paid; not verified.
- Real revenue and refund rates unknown (Play's IAP price range shows US pricing).
- How long it lasts: if Higgsfield launches an official app or files a trademark complaint, it could be pulled overnight. Its Play Top Free rank has dropped from 94 to 197, and new installs are already slowing.
