A name that blew up 2021 years ago and has since been pulled is still being searched: PosteGro grabbed the term "postegro" and pushed 10k installs into Turkey's Tools Top Grossing chart
What it is An app where you enter a username to view Instagram profile info, followers and following, and download posts and Reels. Listed only in Turkey, with high-priced in-app purchases.
Why it took off "postegro" was originally a "view private profiles" app that blew up in Turkey 2021 years ago and was later pulled. The name became a generic search term for that need. It ranks at #2 in search with an exact-match title, and users arriving with strong intent hit a $8.99–$36.99 paywall.
CHow you could follow Don't go after this term in Turkey, where six or seven apps are already crowding it. Learn the method instead: find app names in other countries that blew up, disappeared, and are still being searched, claim them with exact-match local-language titles, and build a compliant version that delivers on the promise.

PosteGro is an Instagram profile viewer that launched two months ago, from a Turkish individual developer. The product is no different from its competitors. Its one smart move was titling it "PosteGro - Hesap Görme" (account viewing), which ranked it #2 for a term Turkish users have searched for five years. With only 10,823 cumulative installs, it already reached #26 on Turkey's Google Play Tools Top Grossing chart. Below: where the term came from, how the money is collected, who is competing for the same term, and what you can learn from it.
A 444.99 lira subscription
In Sep 25 2026, a Turkish user wrote on the complaint site Şikayetvar that he had "believed the promise of viewing private accounts", paid 444.99 lira by card, and after opening it "couldn't view a single profile, it kept saying the account is private". Going back further, in Sep 17 someone paid 399.99 lira for a weekly subscription, and in Sep 11 someone paid 349.99 lira, with nearly identical complaints: "the private-account viewing feature simply doesn't exist".
These complaints all sit under one name: Postegro. The Şikayetvar roundup says that over the past year 123 of them were "paid and never got the service" and 59 were "can't reach anyone" (Şikayetvar, 11-05). The apps in those complaints come from several developers, on iOS, Android and the web. Users can't tell them apart. To them, it's all just Postegro.
PosteGro grew out of that name.
How "postegro" became a generic term
Postegro (often mentioned alongside Lili) was a Turkish hit from 2020–2021 that let people peek at private Instagram profiles. In April 2021, a TikTok video introducing it got 98k views. On the 22th of that same month, the major Turkish paper Sözcü ran a warning piece, and Webtekno and DonanımHaber also wrote up "what Postegro is and whether it's safe." On Ekşi Sözlük, Turkey's biggest forum, someone explained the mechanism: it borrowed a logged-in user's session to view other people's private profiles. It was later pulled from Google Play and moved to the web.
The original is gone, but the demand isn't. "Postegro" became the Turkish shorthand for this kind of feature. People who want to see an ex's, a partner's or a crush's private profile search the word in the store. It's a term with no owner, steady search volume and very high user intent, and anyone can go after it.
How it turns the term into money
Where the traffic comes from: store search. Searching "postegro" in the Google Play Turkey store, 11-06 is Postegro Lili, 1 is the one at 2, and 3 is FollowPeek's "Postegro - Profilime Bakanlar." Its Turkish title matches the brand term exactly, its description repeats "Postegro" a dozen-plus times, and it stacks search terms like profil analizi, takipçi analizi and Reels indirme. No ads for it in the Google or Meta ad libraries, and no content of its own on TikTok or X.
The install curve also looks like it's coming from search, not paid acquisition. It launched in Sep 4, and didn't reach 2,940 installs until Oct 12. The first five weeks brought in a few dozen a day. By mid-October it was one to two hundred a day, and by early November 570–860 a day (third-party estimate). Google Play shows 10-29 cumulative installs, 6,955,11-05 10,823, and over 3,868 in the past week. Higher rank brings more installs, and more installs keep the rank steady, so growth is accelerating gradually rather than spiking and falling off.
How it charges: free to download, no ads, one in-app purchase at $8.99–$36.99 (Google Play list price). Users arrive wanting "to see his profile tonight," and the paywall is the first screen. It isn't on the free chart, but on the Top Grossing chart it climbed from #44 in 10-29 to #26 in 11-06 (Google Play Turkey Tools Top Grossing). Few people install it, but a high share of them pay.
How it got past review: the store description is clean. It only mentions viewing "erişilebilir" (accessible) profile info, follower lists, and downloading posts and Reels. It never mentions private profiles. Users assume they can see private profiles because the title and that word imply it. This is also why similar apps get called scams: they can only show public data. This app has no large pile of public negative reviews yet, but complaints under the same term have piled up for a year.
Who's competing for the same term
| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Approach |
|---|---|---|---|
| InAnalyze: Kilitli Hesap Gör | Long-established | 3.27M installs, Turkey Tools Top Grossing #9 | Category leader. Uses the generic phrase "see locked accounts" and doesn't ride on "postegro" |
| xReporte - Profil Görme | 2026-05 | 289k installs, Top Grossing #31 | Same pricing ($8.99–$45.99), company account, uses "view profiles" |
| Postegro Lili | 2026-02 | 30k installs, Top Grossing #87 | Carries the old brand's full name and ranks #1 for "postegro" |
| FollowPeek | 2026-02 | 126k installs | Core product is a "who viewed me" tracker that only adds "postegro" to its Turkish title to capture search traffic |
| inTegro / STALKERS / InFolzy | 2026-07 to 09 | 7k–16k installs | New entrants in the same period, using puns or "stalk" |
| PosteGro | 2026-09 | 10.8k installs, Top Grossing #26 | Exact brand-term match, individual developer account |
On the App Store it came earlier. At least four titles, including "Postegro - Reports & Analytics," "Postegro - Unfollowers Tracker" and "Postegro - Profile Viewer," sit under four different individual developers. Their Turkey-store rating counts run from 1,394 to 19,370 (App Store, 11-06). On the web there's a string of clone sites, including postegro.tr and webpostegro, and Google Sites pages built specifically to rank for "postegro indir / postegro apk."
PosteGro itself has little public footprint. No press coverage, and no disclosed revenue. It's signed by Osman Karakaş, but the contact email is a Gmail under a different name. On iOS, the same term is being worked by a set of unrelated individual names. My inference is that someone is mass-claiming the term using borrowed or bought individual developer accounts. Not verified.
If it were you
C: Study the method for finding terms. Don't go after this one in Turkey. Six or seven apps already sit under "postegro," and the top one carries the old brand's full name, so a new account will struggle to reach the top three. The category's complaint, refund and takedown risk also hangs overhead. The original was pulled from Google Play for exactly this reason.
Who it suits: indie developers or small teams who have done store optimization, know a particular non-English market, and can read local forums and complaint sites.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone unwilling to use a "the title promises more than the app delivers" approach. Anyone with a single developer account who would lose everything if it's banned. Anyone who wants a product with long-term retention. This category earns from first-time impulse purchases.
How to do it: copy the method, not the term. Look for an app that once went big in some country and was later pulled or shut down, but whose name people still search. Check local Google Trends and store search suggestions, and check whether people still ask about it on forums and complaint sites. If you find one, write a title in the local language that matches the term exactly. Build a real version of the feature that actually delivers, such as compliant follower-change analytics, unfollow alerts, or public-content downloads. Write the title around the need and the description around what you can truly do. Put the paywall after users have seen some real result. Fewer refunds and bad reviews means the account survives longer.
How to get users: skip paid acquisition and rely on search ranking. In the first week, switch the title, description and screenshots to the local language. Track this term's ranking, and keep it through every version update.
When to move early: once someone finds an empty term like this, it fills up within months. Postegro Lili launched in February, and by November there were five or six competitors under the same term. If you find a term, aim to launch within one to two months.
Signs this read is wrong: ① PosteGro drops out of the Turkey Tools Top Grossing top 50 before year-end, or gets pulled from Google Play. That means the approach has a shorter life than it looks, and it's not worth maintaining accounts for. ② Three or more new apps appear under the same term while PosteGro's rank holds. That means ranking isn't really decided by the term. It's decided by something you can't see from outside, like account weight or paid acquisition, which you can't learn from the outside. ③ The reverse: if you find a similar empty term in another country and your app enters that category's top 50 within a month, the method is transferable, and you should find more terms.

Bottom line
It has no product edge. What got it going was taking over "postegro," a brand term from a long-standing Turkish gray-market product. When Turks want to peek at private Instagram profiles, they search the store for a name they already know. This app titles itself "PosteGro - Hesap Görme" (Turkish: view accounts). On Play's Turkey store, a search for "postegro" ranks it #2, right behind another knockoff, "Postegro Lili." Users who have this need arrive ready to buy, and a high $8.99–$36.99 in-app price means it reached 10k installs and hit #26 on the Turkey TOOLS Top Grossing chart. I found no evidence of paid acquisition.
1. Data: how big it is now
- Installs (Google Play, app_snap, cumulative global; charted only in Turkey): 6,955(10-29) → 7,666(10-31) → 9,387(11-03) → 10,823(11-05, 11-06). 7 days, 3,868 new.
- Install curve since launch (Google Play library app_day_ext, estimated via AppstoreSpy): 9-04 after launch it took until 10-12 to reach 2,940 installs; the first 5 weeks averaged roughly 80 installs a day; in mid-October it ran 100–400 installs a day; 10-27 was 6,955; from 11-01 to 11-05 it ran 570–860 installs a day. Growth is accelerating, not one spike, unlike the shape of a concentrated paid push that peaks and fades.
- Top Grossing (googleplay library chart_rank): Turkey TOOLS Top Grossing #44 (10-29) → #39 (10-31) → #33 (11-02) → #30 (11-03) → #29 (11-05) → #26 (11-06), climbing steadily. It has no rank on the Top Free chart, so not many people are coming in, but the payer share is high.
- Price: Free to download, with in-app purchases from $8.99–$36.99 each (app_snap.iap_range). The privacy policy says subscriptions are billed through Google Play Billing. No ads (ad_supported = False).
- Rating: The Play Turkey page shows 4.4 stars (2026-11-06 on the Play search page). The rating count isn't in our database.
- Version: 1.5.3 (10-27 update) → 1.5.5 (11-05 update). Still iterating constantly.
2. Competitors: who else does the same thing
"Enter a username to view an Instagram (private) profile, see followers and following, download posts" is a crowded gray-area category in Turkey. The TOOLS Top Grossing chart is full of copycats (googleplay database, 2026-11-06 Turkey TOOLS Top Grossing chart):

Where the brand name came from: Postegro (and Lili) was a "view private Instagram profiles" app that blew up in Turkey in 2020–2021. A TikTok video introducing it got 98k views (TikHub) 2021-04-10. Sözcü ran a warning piece, "Instagram users, beware of Postegro" (sozcu.com.tr) 2021-04-22. Webtekno, DonanımHaber and Turkcell Pasaj all wrote explainers on "what Postegro is and whether it's safe." An Ekşi Sözlük thread says the trick was hijacking the session of a logged-in user to view other people's private profiles. Google Play later pulled it, and it moved to a web version, webpostegro (eksisozluk.com/postegro--6370669). Once the original was gone, "postegro" became the Turkish catch-all name for this kind of feature, turning into a public traffic keyword anyone could ride.
3. Growth: where users came from
- Store search / brand keyword siphoning (main channel, confirmed): 2026-11-06 searching "postegro" on the Play Turkey storefront (hl=tr, gl=TR), this app ranks #2, #1 is Postegro Lili, and #3 is FollowPeek's "Postegro - Profilime Bakanlar". Its Turkish title is "PosteGro - Hesap Görme", a full brand-keyword match plus the intent term "view accounts". The description repeats "Postegro" a dozen-plus times while stuffing in search terms like profil analizi, takipçi analizi and Reels indirme.
- Long-tail traffic from Google search (indirect): A large number of Google Sites pages and small sites run SEO for "postegro indir / postegro hesap görme / postegro apk" (e.g. sites.google.com/view/postegroweb). People who arrive this way end up looking for the app in the store. There is no evidence these sites are operated by the app itself.
- Paid ads (not found): Our googleads check for this app returned
no_ads, and the Google Ads Transparency Center shows no advertiser for it. The metaads database also has no Page tied to this package name. The install curve ramps up gradually rather than in the spikes typical of paid campaigns. However, the Meta database only tracks advertisers on its list, so this can't be fully ruled out. - TikTok / X content (none of its own found): Searching "postegro" on TikTok returns only the brand's old videos from 2021 to 2024, plus traffic accounts for web clone sites like Revelio and postegrolils. There is no content for this app. x-radar shows 0 posts mentioning "postegro" in the last 30 days.
How the money comes back: Users arrive with strong intent (they want to peek at an ex's or partner's private profile). After installing, they hit a paywall straight away and pay $8.99–$36.99 once. Reviews of similar apps are full of users saying "I paid 105–300 TL and still can't see". A common tactic is also to take money first, then ask for more payment on the grounds of "expedited processing" (InAnalyze reviews; 123 complaints on Şikayetvar under the Postegro name about "paid and got no service"). In other words, this category earns the first impulse payment and doesn't rely on retention. It has no placement in the free chart but ranks #26 on Top Grossing. The money per install is high, which fits this model. Refunds and removal are the ever-present risks.
4. Why it took off
- The demand is still there, and it has become a proper noun: Since 2021, "postegro" has been the name every Turk knows (Sözcü, Webtekno, Ekşi Sözlük, TikTok with 98k views). Demand persisted after the original was pulled, and as long as people search for it in the store, there has to be an app to serve them.
- The brand keyword grabbed the front rank: The title is a full match for "PosteGro", ranking #2 in Play Turkey search (2026-11-06 Play search page). As installs and payments grow, rank and traffic reinforce each other, so the curve accelerates gradually (AppstoreSpy estimates about 200 installs/day in October, rising to 570–860 installs/day in early November).
- High-priced in-app purchases attract high-intent users: $8.99–$36.99, no ads, and with just 10k installs it reached the Turkey TOOLS Top Grossing chart at #26 (chart_rank).
- Deliberately evades review on wording: The store description only mentions viewing "erişilebilir" (accessible) profile information and promises not to collect any data, so it passes Google review. But the title "Hesap Görme" and the brand keyword lead users to believe they can view private profiles.
- Individual developer account: Credited to Osman Karakaş, but the email is [email protected], so the name and email don't match. On iOS, the same keyword is used by a string of individual accounts including Faruk Hamza Kurt, Murat AKSU, Ilayda Gulec and Emre Ayar. This looks like a matrix play of "borrow or buy individual developer accounts, publish, and go" (inferred, not verified).
5. Differentiation
Almost no product differentiation. The features (username search, viewing profile info and followers, downloading posts and Reels) are the same as InAnalyze, xReporte and Postegro Lili, and it can only show public data, not truly view private profiles. Its real "difference" is in distribution: a newly listed small account used the exact "PosteGro" title and Turkish store copy to rank #2 in brand-keyword search. That's why it took off, but anyone can copy it, so there's no moat. FollowPeek, Postegro Lili and inTegro are all fighting over the same term.
6. How many people know about it
- The app itself isn't well known yet: no media coverage, no content about it on X or TikTok, and no public revenue figures.
- But this playbook is already crowded in Turkey: at least 6–7 apps on the App Store and Play use the word "Postegro", Şikayetvar has a dedicated Postegro complaints page, and since 2021 the media has repeatedly reported this category as "scam or privacy violation".
7. What others can borrow
- Find the brand-keyword vacuum left after the original disappeared: a gray-market app that once went viral and was later pulled leaves its name behind as a lasting search term. Find such a term, take the front rank with an exact-match title and local-language store copy, and the acquisition cost is close to zero.
- Low bar for the small-country category Top Grossing chart: On the Turkey TOOLS Top Grossing chart, 10k installs plus high-priced in-app purchases can get you into the top 30.
- Compliant-looking description, demand-driven title, used to pass review. Note: this carries ethical and policy risk. Similar apps are widely reported as scams, and accounts can be banned at any time.
8. Still unclear
- Actual revenue and paying rate: there's no rating count and no revenue data; what the Top Grossing 26 converts to in money hasn't been verified.
- Who the developer is: whether Osman Karakaş is a real person or a borrowed account, and what the relationship with [email protected] is, are unverified. Whether it is the same group as Postegro Lili or the Postegro apps on iOS is also unknown.
- Whether it runs UAC or Meta ads: our databases show none, but coverage is incomplete.
- Whether the app can actually "see private profiles" or only shows public data: no installation verification; our database has no review samples for it.
- Removal risk: similar apps have drawn heavy complaints, and Play previously removed the original Postegro.
