# One invite code, 200 candies within 24 hours: how Popia used a crowd of micro-creators to push AI roleplay onto US and EU Top Grossing charts

**What it is** An AI character chat plus interactive story app focused on dark romance, K-pop idol and other women-leaning plots. Chats cost candies per message.

**Why it took off** It's an iOS product that already worked, now with an Android build, and a large crowd of micro-creators posting "use my code, get 200 candies within 24 hours" story videos on TikTok and Instagram to drive installs in bulk.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't build yet another AI roleplay app. Take the one-code-per-creator, 24-hour-reward, pay-for-performance micro-creator model and apply it to a consumer app of your own that has virtual currency. If you do go into AI roleplay, pick a narrower fandom taste or a smaller language market, and offer the unlimited subscription they don't.

Grade C: the acquisition playbook is clear and copyable, and worth learning from. But AI roleplay is already crowded with a dozen well-funded Chinese teams, Popia itself rests on venture money, an older iOS product and batches of creators, and its content edge carries a real risk of store delisting. A small team copying it probably won't pay off. Whispers in the small circles

Popia is an overseas AI roleplay app from a Beijing company that raised a $32M seed round. It targets women with dark romance plots. The Google Play listing was only relisted in August, and within three months it reached 42k installs and climbed to #62 on the UK Entertainment Top Grossing chart. The traffic came from hundreds of micro-creators on TikTok and Instagram, each with their own invite code. The playbook is worth learning. The category isn't worth chasing.

### A video from the day before Halloween

On October 30, 2026, the US TikTok account @villumimi (12k followers) posted a 51-second video captioned: "Sadly my man is messing with me this Halloween 🙄🎃" Her "man" is an AI character in Popia. The real pitch is the last line of the caption: "Don't forget to use my invite code LEX0606, enter it within 24 hours of signing up, and you can get up to 200 candies."

Search "popia ai" on TikTok and nearly all of the top 20 results are videos like this (TikTok, 11-06 view). They follow the same format: a clip of a story from an AI chat, a line like "why is he acting like this 👀", and an invite code. The creators are spread across countries: @thisistateoh in South Korea (50k followers, one video with 13k views), @wondercoserr in Algeria (146k followers, one video with 67k views), @tatia.t1 in Georgia (only 273 followers), and @asiaholidayy in the US (420k followers, caption ends with #ad). Each person has a different code: TATE1016, WOND2026, MS66821, ASIA26.

### What it is

An AI character chat plus interactive story app. You pick a character (or build your own) and chat with them, and the plot follows your choices. The homepage pushes character tags like Dark Romance, Captor & Captive, Power Imbalance, Cold Killer, plus K-pop idols. Put simply, it's the Wattpad women's-fiction formula turned into something you can talk to.

The product has a few design choices of its own. When creating a character you don't fill in a long form: you give a vague description (say, "domineering CEO" or "childhood friend") and the AI asks follow-up questions over several rounds to fill in the setup. Stories can be rewound to the start, and both creating characters and everyday chatting earn points. But Talkie, Saylo and Linky all have similar features, so these choices mostly help keep users around rather than explain why it grew.

### It isn't actually a new product

The com.popilab.app listing on Google Play went live in 5 2026, with the developer named as the Hong Kong company Yuanshi Innovation Tech Limited. But Popia didn't start then:

- **The iOS version has been running for a long time.** "Popia - AI Stories & Creators" launched in 29 2026, developed by the Singapore entity METASTONE PTE. LTD. By 11-06 it had 1,915 ratings on the US store, gaining 150 more in 7 days, and reached #151 on the US App Store overall Top Grossing chart.

- **The original Android build disappeared.** The old package com.popia.app was last updated on APKPure on 2026-05-23, and now it opens as 404 on Google Play. The new listing's description adds a line specifically saying: "Popia Chat has a content moderation system to keep user-generated content safe and compliant." Whether Google delisted the old build or it was pulled voluntarily can't be determined from outside. (Inference: content-level issues are a real possibility, and someone on Reddit has posted specifically to mock its explicitness.)

- **The company behind it is not small.** Beijing Yuanshi Technology, whose founder Li Yan is a former head of multimodal (MMU) at Kuaishou. Sohu's Hu Huai, Matrix Partners and Redpoint invested a $32M seed round. The company first ran "Wenxiaobai" domestically.

So this Android curve isn't about a new product appearing. It's about an iOS product that already worked, bringing its ready-made character library, monetization design and creator network, and filling in Android.

### How big it is now

| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play installs | 9-02 about 360 → 10-04 about 11k → 11-06 41,820, last 7 days +6,244 | Google Play, September and October figures are early third-party estimates |
| Two jumps | 10-08 one day about +2,900; 10-21 to 10-23 three days about +10k | Same as above (est.) |
| Play ratings count | 10-29 174 → 11-06 249,11-05 one day +27 | Google Play |
| UK Entertainment Top Grossing | 10-29 #108 → 11-06 #62 | Google Play charts |
| US Entertainment Top Grossing | 10-31 #199 → 11-06 #128 | Same as above |
| Countries newly entering the Top Grossing chart | From 11-05 onward Germany (91), Spain (82), Australia, Canada | Same as above |

The revenue claims differ a lot. The company's careers page says it has "over ten million registered users globally and tens of millions of dollars in ARR"; Chinese media citing Diandian data put mobile cumulative revenue at about $400k; another third party, AlphaMoat, estimates roughly $30M in in-app purchases over about 1.25 days in October, 68% from the US. These bases don't agree, and the company's own claims can't be verified. The safer read: it has held a spot in the top 25 of the US iOS Entertainment Top Grossing chart, and on Android its UK grossing rank is higher than its free rank, which means paying users are spending a fair amount.

### Where users come from: one code per creator

This section has the strongest evidence. Broken down, the playbook looks like this:

- **Lots of micro-creators, one code each.** Followers range from 273 to 40 million, and quite a few accounts carry ugc in the name (ugcwithninii, salo_ugc_lab). Each code tracks how many signups a creator brings, so you can pay on results.

- **The reward only lasts 24 hours.** "Enter the code within 24 hours of signing up to get 200 candies" pushes people to download and sign up on the spot.

- **The videos sell the story, not the app.** Creators clip lines like "I told the AI character Dorian I love him, and now I need to know what happens next" or "I thought it was just a normal chat, and then...", with tags like #aiboyfriend #romance #slowburn, and also ride #characterai and #wattpad to reach other apps' users.

- **Instagram and Facebook run the same playbook.** "Use code KATIE / KIO26 / MARIAMK, get 24 candies within 200 hours."

- **Some creators are from Georgia** (names like tatia, nino, elene; TikTok shows region GE). Inference, not verified: these are likely batches bought from low-cost Eastern European UGC studios.

The timing fits too: this batch of videos clusters from mid-October to early November, and the two jumps in Android installs land right around 10-08 and 10-21. These videos are likely also being run as paid ads (UGC creative works well as Spark Ads), but they don't show up in the public TikTok or Meta ad libraries, so whether they were paid for, and how much, is unknown.

### Where the money comes from: candies per message, and the longer you chat, the more it costs

Free to download. Each chat message costs "Candies". Subscriptions unlock regenerating replies, full memory, voice, unlimited character slots and no ads. On Google Play, one-off in-app purchases range from $1.99 to $699.99. Daily logins and tasks earn free candies, but free candies expire, and the system spends the ones closest to expiry first.

Reviews on the App Store from early November show the effect of this design clearly:

> "The stories are good, but the candy prices get ridiculous over time. If there were an unlimited monthly subscription, I'd pay a good price for it." (US, 4 stars, 11-03)

> "Each message costs more candies, and it gets hard to keep the story going. And it's expensive." (Australia, 3 stars, 11-02)

> "I used to have to beg people on tumblr to write specific fanfic and wait days. Now I get it right away and can change it however I like!" (US, 5 stars, 11-03)

> "Better than Emochi. I like that you can earn points and also buy them." (US, 5 stars, 11-02)

> "I was chatting well with a character, then it stopped letting me send messages and insisted I buy a 'VIP' pass, even though I had enough candies." (US, 1 stars, 11-03)

The people paying know exactly what they're buying: young women who read fanfic and web novels used to find or write stories on tumblr and Wattpad, and now use AI as an on-demand writer. They complain about the cost, but they still pay.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Play installs (11-06) | Compared with Popia |
|---|---|---|
| Character.AI | 70.7M | Category leader with strict content rules; Popia is more open |
| Talkie(MiniMax) | 60.8M | Mass-market, volume play; Popia's audience is narrower and pays more per user |
| PolyBuzz | 57.9M | Chinese team going global on volume; Popia is smaller and pricier |
| Emochi(FlowGPT) | 29.7M, 7 days +658k | The most aggressive volume player right now, two orders of magnitude bigger than Popia |
| Chai | 24.4M | Long-running adult chat app with weaker stories and worldbuilding |
| Linky AI (Kunlun Tech) | 23.7M | Big-company overseas push |
| Saylo | 8.44M | Doing "AI interactive stories" too, and the most direct rival |
| Janitor AI | Mainly web, Play 2.75M | Web-based adult roleplay community where users bring their own models |

There's a long tail after this too: HiWaifu, Rosytalk, Flipped, MochiChat and more, mostly Chinese teams going overseas. Popia is a latecomer here, winning by picking a small group of users and running efficient paid acquisition, not by finding an empty niche.

### If it were you

**One-line take** : Don't build another AI roleplay app. Copy the acquisition playbook instead. The "one code per creator, reward within 24 hours" micro-creator model works on any app that consumes credits per action and has virtual currency.

**Who it's for** : teams that already have a consumer app that makes money (especially with virtual currency or points: AI writing, fortune-telling, interactive fiction, language tutoring) and are missing a performance-based acquisition channel. You need someone on the team who can manage dozens or hundreds of creators and reconcile the payouts.

**Not for:** small teams that want to go head-on with AI romance and AI roleplay. The category is crowded with a dozen-plus China-based teams that have raised big money and are buying paid installs; the leaders sit at tens of millions of installs. Loosen the content and you face app store takedowns, and Popia's own old Android package has already been pulled. Model costs are per message, and users still complain it's expensive.

**How to do it:**

- Swap the theme for an adjacent one that's less crowded: a specific fandom or fiction genre (say, K-pop only, or one romance subgenre), a language market (women's interactive fiction in German, Spanish, or Portuguese), or just a web version that sidesteps app store review.

- Keep its monetization skeleton: free coins you claim daily that expire, paid coins that don't, plus a subscription. The most common request in the reviews is an unlimited monthly subscription, which it doesn't offer. That's where you can beat it.

- Don't copy its "the longer you chat, the more it costs" model. It's the complaint users rage about most in reviews.

**How to get users:** find 20 to 50 TikTok / Instagram creators with a few hundred to tens of thousands of followers, give each a unique code, and pay per signup or per purchase. Don't pitch features in the videos. Clip a scene that makes people wonder "what happens next?" The code reward only lasts 24 hours after signup. Run it for a week or two, then put the best-performing creative into Spark Ads. Eastern Europe, North Africa, and Southeast Asia have plenty of per-job UGC creators who are cheap, but accents and personas should match your target country.

**Why get in early:** the playbook itself isn't time-sensitive, but the AI character category is already saturated. If you still want to pursue an adjacent theme, find a profitable acquisition channel within a niche taste in about six months, or big companies will fill that space too.

**What would mean you read it wrong** :

- Popia's weekly Android installs fell back to a couple thousand by late November, and its Top Grossing rank slipped too. That suggests this wave came from a concentrated creator push that stopped when the spending did, so the playbook isn't especially durable.

- The new package also got pulled from the store, which shows this level of content doesn't last long on app stores, and followers will have a harder time.

- You recruited 30 creators to share codes, and in two weeks not one of them drove more than 50 signups. Your product has no scene that can be cut into a cliffhanger, so this playbook isn't a fit for you. Change channels instead of spending more.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **TikTok UGC creator invite codes:** the first 20 results for "popia ai" on TikHub are all promo videos from 10-15 to 11-05, in a uniform format: "use my code XXX to get 200 FREE Candies". The top video got 19k views and 3,251 likes. Creators range from 273 followers to 200k, and many account names literally include "ugc".

- Inferred **Paid ads (Spark / Meta):** UGC creative is naturally suited to paid distribution, but neither the Meta nor the TikTok ad library has picked up this product.

## How Popia Chat: AI Roleplay (com.popilab.app) got off the ground

### One line

Popia is an overseas AI roleplay / interactive story app from Beijing's Yuanshi Technology (founder Li Yan, formerly multimodal lead at Kuaishou's MMU; backed by Song Hua, Matrix Partners, and Hongdian), primarily targeting the US. The com.popilab.app listing on Google Play is not a new product. It's Popia's new Android package, which re-listed under a Hong Kong entity (Yuanshi Innovation Tech Limited) after 2026-08-05. The original Android package com.popia.app now shows 404 on Play. Its growth rests on two things: first, a monetization model already proven on iOS (candies / points plus subscription, with one-time in-app purchases up to $699.99); second, a flood of short UGC creator videos on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook promoting "invite codes for 200 Candies". Its product differentiator, building characters through conversation, helps, but it isn't the main driver.

### Data (from our library)

- Installs: 2026-09-02 is 360 (AppstoreSpy estimate), going from 2026-10-04 to 10,907,10-26 to 33,368,11-06 to 41,820. Over the last 7 days it grew by 6,244. Growth accelerated in two clear stretches: 10-08 added about +2,900 in a single day, and 10-21 to 10-23 added about +10,000 over three days (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate). Source: googleplay library app_day / app_day_ext.

- Ratings: 10-29 is 174,11-06, 249; 11-05 added +27,11-06 in one day and +17 in another, and the pace is accelerating (googleplay.app_day).

- Top Grossing (Entertainment category): in the UK it climbed from #10-29 to #108 to #11-06 to #62; in the US it moved from #10-31 to #199 then to #128; starting 11-05, Germany, Spain, Australia, and Canada also charted Top Grossing (googleplay.chart_rank). Its best Top Free ranking was #42 in Swedish Entertainment.

- Top review 2026-10-13; store launch date 2026-08-05 (googleplay.app). The developer email is a gmail address (yuanshi0823@gmail.com), and the website is popia.app.

- The iOS version of the same product: "Popia - AI Stories & Creators" (id6757948021, METASTONE PTE. LTD.), launched 2026-01-29. US rating count is 1,915, up +7 over the last 150 days; currently #151 overall in the US Top Grossing, and its best Entertainment Top Grossing ranking is #22 (appstore library). METASTONE also has RizzKey (an AI emoji keyboard) and Blabla.

### 1. Why it took off

**(1) This isn't starting from zero. It's a mature product filling a gap on Android.**

- Company: Beijing Yuanshi Technology, founded 2022-08, with Li Yan as both legal representative and CEO. Li Yan joined Kuaishou in 2015, where from 0 to 1 he built the MMU and search business units. The company first made a domestic product, "Wenxiaobai" (DAU passed one million 4 months after launch), then raised a seed round of $32M from Song Hua, Matrix Partners, and Hongdian ([BOSS Zhipin company page](https://m.zhipin.com/companys/019b75e7fae53b6b1Hxy29q8GVo~.html), [Bianniushi](https://www.bianews.com/news/details?id=190544), [Eeo](https://www.iyiou.com/data/202407191072602)).

- The recruiting page claims "core product is Popia... over ten million registered users worldwide, reaching tens of millions of dollars in ARR" (BOSS Zhipin, company self-reported, unverified). Diandian Data's numbers are more conservative: about $400K in lifetime mobile revenue, and a Top 25 spot on the US Entertainment Top Grossing chart ([TMTPost 2026-10-04](https://www.tmtpost.com/8158954.html), [reprinted by Bai Jing Overseas](https://www.baijing.cn/article/56923)). AlphaMoat estimates 2026-10 downloaded 30k in the last 55 days, with in-app revenue of about $1.25M, 67.8% from the US ([AlphaMoat](https://www.alphamoat.ai/zh/app/popia-18033966), third-party estimate).

- The old Android package com.popia.app was last updated on 2026-05-23 (v2.2.0) per APKPure ([APKPure](https://apkpure.com/popia-ai-roleplay-stories/com.popia.app)), and its Play listing now returns 404. The new package 2026-08-05 went live under a new developer, the Hong Kong entity "Yuanshi Innovation Tech Limited" (Hong Kong Yuanshi Chuangxin Technology, registered 2023-05, [ltddir](https://www.ltddir.com/companies/yuanshi-innovation-tech-limited/)). Its description now includes this line: "Popia Chat includes content moderation systems to support safe and policy-compliant user-generated content." AlphaMoat's monthly downloads dropped 51% in 2026-07, then recovered from August, which lines up with the timing of "old Android package pulled → new package relisted". **I couldn't find direct evidence on whether Google pulled the old package or it was withdrawn voluntarily (unverified)** . There is community criticism that it's too permissive (an r/antiai thread titled "stay classy, Popia", [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/antiai/comments/1v6zi5l/i_saw_this_shared_in_another_subreddit_stay/)).

- So most of com.popilab.app's growth over these three months comes from carrying an iOS product that already worked, along with its content, payment model, and machinery for paid acquisition, over to Android. The community character library, the paying model, and the creator network were all ready-made.

**(2) Where users come from: the UGC creator invite-code matrix (the best-supported finding).**

- Searching TikTok for "popia ai", the first 20 results are almost all promo videos from 2026-10-15 to 11-05, in a fixed format: "Download Popia, use my code XXX to get 200 FREE Candies" (TikHub search, 2026-11-06). Examples:
    - annie.6082 (6k followers): one video with 19k views / 3,251 likes, another with 12k views;
    - kirasophia0 (12k followers): 13.8k views;
    - tatia.t1 (273 followers): 11.5k views;
    - nate_whitaker (200k followers), sheirlynqtt (100k followers), and krystalhubei (40k followers) posted videos tagged #characterai #wattpad;
    - accounts with "ugc" in the name include ugcwithninii, salo_ugc_lab, nino.creats, and elenecreates.

- Instagram Reels and Facebook videos run the same playbook: "Use code KATIE / KIO26 / MARIAMK / LUMIER for 200 Candies in 24 Hours" ([IG](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DdUDvSzPVgQ/), [FB](https://www.facebook.com/georgian.kate.k/videos/-this-app-changes-everything-discover-your-ai-companion-create-fun-moments-and-b/1823613978751466/)).

- Many creator names have a Georgian flavor (lanakhonelidze1, tatia, nino, elene, georgian.kate). Georgia also shows up among AlphaMoat's download sources. My inference is that the work is outsourced to low-cost Eastern European UGC studios that mass-produce the creative (inferred, unverified).

- Broken down, the playbook works like this: one creator, one invite code, so you can track attribution by code and pay by performance. "200 Candies" only lasts 24 hours, which pushes users to download on the spot. The videos themselves can be turned into Spark Ads for paid promotion. (Our TikTok ad library only covers products that target Europe and are on the list. Popia isn't on it, so the absence of ad-spend records doesn't mean it wasn't advertising.) The Meta ad library doesn't track it either.

- The two sharp jumps in the install curve, 10-08 and 10-21 to 23, roughly match when these videos were released in bulk (10-15 to 11-05).

**(3) Why users stay and pay.**

- The paid unit is "Candies / points," consumed per message. Subscriptions unlock Regenerations, full memory, voice, unlimited character slots, and no ads ([popia.app/price-plan](https://www.popia.app/price-plan)). On Play, one-time in-app purchases range from $1.99 to $699.99.

- Daily logins and tasks give points, but the points expire, and the system spends the ones closest to expiring first. Users say this themselves in Play reviews, and the developer confirmed it in replies. It's a standard dual-currency design, free to claim and paid to buy, meant to lift conversion.

- Content side: popia.app's homepage features Dark Romance, Captor&Captive, Power Imbalance, Cold Killer, and K-pop idol (Park Sunghoon) characters. These are women-focused dark romance archetypes, the same taste as Wattpad. Creator videos also push "AI boyfriend" heavily. The user profile is young Western women and fanfic/web-novel readers, a group with high willingness to pay.

- Reviews complain about the price, but say "stories are so rich." In the UK, Top Grossing ranks higher than Top Free, which suggests solid paying depth.

### 2. Differentiation

The breakdown from TMTPost / 3636Kr (Xiaguang AI Lab) has three points ([TMTPost](https://www.tmtpost.com/8158954.html), [Qiantu Tech Digest](https://accesspath.com/software/8158954-muuhlkk7juzf)):

1. **Conversational character creation** : users give only a vague concept (e.g. "domineering CEO", "childhood sweetheart"), the AI asks multiple follow-up questions to fill in the setting, with a live preview on the right;

2. **Users can also have multiple personas** , forming "two-way settings";

3. Chats can rewind to the start of the plot and be redone with feedback corrections; both creating and chatting earn points, lowering the pressure to keep paying.

Plus image/video generation, voice, and memory. These are good designs, but Talkie, Linky, Saylo, and Character.AI all have similar features. The direct reason it took off isn't these features. It comes down to three things: first, picking the right audience (women-focused dark romance + a creator community); second, the efficiency of UGC creator invite-code distribution; third, team resources (funding and a tech and growth team from Kuaishou). Product differentiation mostly helps retention and payment.

| Character.AI | iOS/Android/web | 2022 | Play 70.7M installs, +219k in 7 days | Category leader, strict on NSFW with heavy restrictions for minors; Popia focuses on a more open adult romance narrative |
| Talkie(MiniMax) | iOS/Android | 2023 | 60.8M | Veteran from the Chinese team, mass-market cards + characters; Popia is narrower and leans toward women-focused deep storylines |
| PolyBuzz | iOS/Android | 2023 | 57.9M, #33 Top Grossing in France | Both are Chinese companies going global with volume; Popia is smaller in scale but higher revenue per user |
| Emochi(FlowGPT) | iOS/Android | 2023 | 29.7M, 7 days +658k | The most aggressive volume player right now; Popia is two orders of magnitude smaller |
| Chai | iOS/Android | 2021 | 24.4M, #50 in UK Top Grossing | Long-running adult chat; Popia adds story/worldbuilding and creator tools |
| Linky AI (Kunlun Tech Skywork) | iOS/Android | 2023 | 23.7M | Big-company global expansion; Popia emphasizes conversational character building and creators |
| Saylo(X Original HK) | iOS/Android | 2024 | 8.44M | Same "AI creative worlds / interactive stories" positioning, the closest direct competitor |
| zeta(Scatter Lab) | iOS/Android | 2022 | 7.72M, #10 on JP Top Grossing | Focused on Japan and Korea; Popia focuses on the West |
| Janitor AI | Web / Android | 2023 (web) | Play 2.75M | The main player in the web-based adult roleplay circle, community-driven, users bring their own models; Popia is mobile-first, more polished packaging, monetized through candy |
| HiWaifu, Rosytalk / Fantasia, Flipped, Sea Soul, MochiChat, imely | All platforms | 2023–2026 | Install counts range from a few hundred thousand to several million | Homogeneous Chinese going-global teams, each choosing other regions or other mechanics |

Conclusion: this category is already very crowded. Popia is a late entrant that got in by picking the right audience and a niche taste, not by finding an empty market.

### Growth tactics summary

- UGC creator invite-code matrix on TikTok / IG / FB: confirmed (lots of videos found via TikHub search, IG, and FB).

- Paid ad spend: probably (UGC videos are naturally suited to Spark / Meta ads), but our ad libraries didn't track it. Unconfirmed.

- iOS users and brand migrated to a new Android build: likely (same name, same website, old build gone), but the scale of the migration is unverified.

- Chinese media coverage (TMTPost, 3636Kr, Baijing, Sailing Overseas): aimed at industry readers, contributes little to acquisition.

### Visibility

Already written up in the Chinese going-global circle: TMTPost / 3636Kr 2026-10-04~08 ran a detailed breakdown, Baijing Going Global reprinted it, and Yangfan Going Global's roundup of 47 AI social apps includes it. The company's careers page calls itself a "tens of millions USD ARR" business. English-speaking side: X (x-radar, last 60 days) turned up no discussion, no TrustMRR listing, no English press coverage, just scattered complaints on Reddit. Grouped as "whispered in small circles": known to Chinese going-global investors, unknown to the English tech world.

### Copycats

No product was found that clearly copies Popia. This category itself is full of mutual copying. MochiChat and imely are contemporary Chinese teams, so they don't count as copying it.

### What others can borrow

1. **Per-code-settled UGC creator matrix** : many small creators with a few hundred to tens of thousands of followers (can be outsourced to Eastern European UGC studios), one person one invite code, candy rewards valid for 24 hours, making acquisition trackable and pay-for-performance, with the footage reusable for ads.

2. **Fast recovery after the Android build was pulled** : new entity, new package name, a clear note on the review mechanism in the listing; it climbed back into Western Top Grossing in about two months (assuming the old build was indeed pulled).

3. Three layers of monetization: free points that expire + permanent paid points + subscription; content locked to women-focused dark romance/fanfic niches with high willingness to pay.

4. Conversational character creation lowers the barrier to creating, so the UGC character library keeps growing.

### Still unclear

- The reason the old package com.popia.app disappeared (policy takedown or voluntary migration) and how many cumulative installs it had at the time: neither was found.

- "10 million registrations and tens of millions USD ARR" are the company's self-reported figures, far from Sensor Tower's "cumulative 400k USD" (definitions may differ: cumulative vs. annualized, including web vs. mobile only).

- Scale of paid acquisition: neither the Meta nor TikTok ad libraries tracked it.

- Whether creators are self-recruited or come through a UGC platform (Noise, etc.), and whether the concentration in Georgia reflects an outsourcing studio, are both inferences.

This article was written by AI from public data and the data we collect daily. Numbers are sourced, and inferences are labeled.
