Get 78K VND back on Shopee links: Monback took a top spot among twenty clones by getting on TV
What it is A Vietnamese link-cashback app: paste a Shopee or TikTok Shop product link, place the order through its affiliate link, and it splits the commission with you. Withdraw to your bank card once you hit 50K VND.
Why it took off It launched early (2026 March), kept running Facebook short videos with cashback-amount hooks like "paste a link, get 78K back", then addressed the "is this a scam?" doubt with a business license, state-media press pieces and coverage from VTV3 / Hanoi TV, plus invite codes to drive signups.
CHow you could follow it Don't build the twenty-first clone in Vietnam. If you want to copy it, switch to another Shopee or TikTok Shop market, count the local clones first, then follow the same playbook: amount-hook short-video ads, buy local media credibility first, add a withdrawal threshold and invite codes to the wallet, and make the cashback payout timeline transparent.

Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
Monback is a cashback app built by a small Hanoi team. Paste a Shopee or TikTok Shop product link, order through its affiliate link, and it splits the commission with you. Once you've saved 50K VND (about $2), you can withdraw to your bank card. It has 26K installs on Google Play, climbed nearly 6,000 over the last 9 days, and has been bouncing between #11 and #15 on the Vietnam Shopping Top Free chart (Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06). The product is the same as its rivals. The one extra thing it does is buy trust: it registered a company, got state-media coverage, and appeared on VTV3. This piece covers how it grew, how it makes money, and why I wouldn't build another one in Vietnam.
Oct 28, 11 a.m. 10
On Oct 28 11:10, 2026, a Monback segment aired on the Vietnamese national broadcaster VTV3's news program. That day, Monback's official YouTube channel posted the clip under the title "🔥 VTV3 covers the cashback app Monback". As of 11-06, the video had 272 views and the channel had 22 subscribers.
At the same time, the App Store Vietnam storefront was flooded with 5-star reviews. The most recent 50 all landed on October 27 and 28, 49 of them 5-star, mostly just a few words: "Tốt" (good), "Có hoàn tiền thật" (cash back is real). One review's title was simply a string of an invite code, with the body "Đc nha" (got it), and the title's second half reading "đc 10k" (got 10k). Another said "Mới dùng app vì được giới thiệu" (only started using the app because someone referred me). The rating count jumped from 10-28 to 663 and then to 10-30 806, and has stayed at 806 since (App Store Vietnam). Inference: around the TV broadcast, the team ran a round of invite-code acquisition paired with rating prompts.
On Google Play, two updates shipped around the VTV3 airing: 10-31 gained +2,065 and 11-03 gained +2,453. The timing lines up, but I can't say the causation is clear.
What it is
A link-conversion tool plus a wallet. The site describes three steps: paste any product link and get a cashback link in 5 seconds; open the link and order on Shopee as usual; once the order is confirmed, the cashback lands in your Monback wallet. The selling points are "real money, not virtual points", "no bank card needed", and "stacks with platform coupons" (monback.app, 11-06).
Where the money comes from: Shopee and TikTok Shop's affiliate programs are open to individuals, so anyone can turn a product link into a commissioned one. Monback takes the commission, passes part of it back to the buyer, and keeps the rest. The Play store listing is tagged "contains ads", with no in-app purchases. The site says "up to 50%" cashback, but that refers to 50% of order value, which only holds for a few high-commission products. In a sponsored press piece in August, the company said the highest cashback categories are apparel, cosmetics, health and home goods (hanoimoi.vn, 08-05). In a Shopee Vietnam user group, one commenter said it pays "very little, less than chiahoahong, which pays 50% commission". So the margin per order is thin, and it has to win on volume.
Retention comes with the model: once there's a balance in the wallet below the 50K withdrawal threshold, users come back to convert their next purchase through it.
The most common complaint is slowness. Several of the 50 5-star reviews mention, in passing, "cashback is a bit slow", "takes forever to arrive", and "didn't get the order recorded, too lazy to go back and file a claim". This isn't a Monback-only problem: platforms only pay out commission after the order is confirmed received and the return window has passed, so cashback apps have to wait too.
How it took off
Early days. The iOS version went live on the App Store in 2026-03-09, and the Play version appeared between late February and March. Most of the clones that surfaced in Vietnam this year launched after May. In an August press piece, the company said it had over 20K users and about 150K orders (hanoimoi.vn, 08-05).
Ongoing Facebook short videos. The official Facebook page, Instagram Reels and Threads keep posting the same kind of video: "paste a link in 5 seconds, get 78K back on Shopee", "buy a 600K dress, get 63K back", "you spend 2M a month on Shopee?". Specific amounts plus a "one extra step before you pay" secret are standard performance-ad writing. How much it spends on this is not visible from outside (unverified).
Buy trust. In Vietnam, the biggest hurdle for a cashback app comes down to one question: "Is this a scam?" Monback's answer is to look as legit as possible: Jun 22 registered a joint-stock company in Hanoi, and the footer of the website is full of business license numbers and addresses; in August, the same article ran the same day on hanoimoi.vn, baotuyenquang.com.vn, and vietnam.vn; in September, a feature on Hanoi TV channel H1; in Oct 28, a segment on VTV3. The Facebook page bio states outright: "Reported by VTV3 and Hanoi TV, use with confidence." There's no direct evidence that these placements were paid; in Vietnam, this kind of "TV coverage" is most likely paid (inference).
Invite codes. Enter an invite code, and if you place your first order within 3 days of signing up, you get an extra 10K VND (official Threads). The comment above that used an invite code as its title is a trace this mechanic left behind.
TikTok isn't one of its channels: the official account gets a few hundred to 3,600 views per post.
Who it's competing with
Vietnam's "link cashback" clones have multiplied to twenty-odd over the past 2026 year, and they run nearly identical playbooks:
| Product | Launched | Scale (11-06) | How Monback differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| ShopBack | 2016 | 53.7M Play installs (across Southeast Asia); 16K ratings on Vietnam iOS | Regional giant with lots of merchants and strong brand trust, low cashback rates |
| Cashbag | 2019 | 8,826 ratings on Vietnam iOS | Local veteran |
| Riokupon | iOS 2025-03 / Play 2026-01 | 253K Play installs, +8,500 over 7 days, #8 in Vietnam Shopping | Same model, 10 times Monback's size |
| STK, Matumi, PB Ví Hoàn Tiền | From ¥2026-05 | STK: 69K Play installs | One company running three reskinned apps |
| Heo Đất | 2026-08/09 | Play 11.8k installs, 7 days +7,400 | Launched half a year later, yet its weekly growth already exceeds Monback's |
| A dozen small apps (Hoàn Đồng, Cây Khế, Mekoupon, Hoàn Xu, …) | 2026-03 to 09 | A few hundred to a few thousand installs | Individual or small-team versions |
| Zalo groups, referral sites (chiahoahong and others) | — | Not verified | No app to install; claims 50% to 90% commission back |
| MoMo wallet | — | Vietnam's national e-wallet | Shopping cashback built into the wallet |
Sources: Google Play install counts and App Store Vietnam ratings, 11-06.
On the product side, Monback does nothing differently from anyone else. It got into the top spots through an early launch and trust marketing, but that alone doesn't create a moat: Heo Đất launched two months ago and its weekly growth already exceeds Monback's. On the Vietnam iOS shopping category chart, Monback slid from #35 at the end of October to #11-06 by 63 (App Store Vietnam).
A side note: one claim says the developer behind Monback also runs Heo Đất, Cây Khế, Hoàn Đồng and the rest of that reskinned-app string. That doesn't hold up. The iOS developer account behind Monback has only Monback listed, and the others each have their own developers. The company actually running a portfolio in Vietnam is the one behind STK.
How many people have seen it
The small circles in Vietnam: paid press pieces, TV clips, and the occasional user in the Shopee group asking "which gives the best cashback, Monback, ShopBack or Mekoupon?" (Facebook group, 09-14). Revenue isn't public, nobody has mentioned it on X in 90 days, and there's no English-language coverage. Few people outside the country know it exists, but plenty of local copycats already do, and this business never had any secrets.
If it were you
Verdict: there's something to learn, but don't build the twenty-first clone in Vietnam. Technically, one person can build this in a week. The hard parts are trust and volume. Vietnam's slot is already held by Riokupon, STK's portfolio and Heo Đất, which is spending aggressively, with ShopBack and MoMo above them, and the margin per order is thin.
Who it suits: small teams that can run Facebook / TikTok performance ads, speak the language of a Shopee or TikTok Shop market, and have some budget to buy local trust.
Who it doesn't suit: people who can only write code and are counting on organic app-store traffic; anyone who wants to launch in Vietnam; anyone who can't live with "the platform sets the commission rules and can change them anytime".
How to do it: if you want to follow, switch markets. First count how many link-cashback apps already exist in the other countries Shopee and TikTok Shop cover (the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil) and who's buying ads there. (Inference: I haven't checked how crowded those markets are; check before you move.) Build the product the way Monback did: link conversion, a wallet, withdrawals above a threshold, and invite codes that give a small bonus. State the cashback rate clearly and don't write "up to 50%", the kind of claim that disappoints users the moment they try it. Turn "how long until the order pays out" into a progress view for each order. That's where most of the complaints are.
How to get users: Copy the formula from the ads: "This ¥X item, paste the link and get ¥Y back," with a specific amount, in vertical short video. Build trust first: register the company, post the business license on your website, then spend a little on local media and put "as featured by X" in every ad and your profile bio. Keep invite-code rewards below the commission from a single order.
Deadline: to launch and start a small-budget test before mid-January 2027, ahead of the Lunar New Year (2027-02-06) shopping season in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. 11.11 and 12.12 are too late this year.
Where the analysis could be wrong: ① Shopee or TikTok Shop explicitly bans cashback apps that convert links on the user's behalf, or sharply cuts individual affiliate commissions (Shopee already tightened rules in August 2026, banning third-party link wrapping and bot-account link distribution; these apps haven't been named yet). ② Monback drops out of the Vietnam Shopping Top Free chart's top 30 while Heo Đất breaks into the top 10, which would suggest trust marketing alone can't hold a position and the game is paid acquisition. ③ Conversely, if Monback's install growth doesn't slow after 11.11 and 12.12 and it returns to the top 10, the Vietnamese pool is bigger than it looks and latecomers still have room.
A final line for everyone building products: in a category everyone suspects is a scam, you don't need a better product to pull ahead. The one that looks most legitimate gets ranked first. A business license, a state-media article and a TV clip are cheap in Vietnam, and they work just as well in any other category where trust is the bottleneck.

One line
Monback is a small team in Hanoi (founder Đào Bá Khánh / Eric Dao; company CÔNG TY CỔ PHẦN CÔNG NGHỆ MONBACK, registered 2026-06-22). It's a Vietnamese "paste-a-link cash back" app: paste product links from Shopee, TikTok Shop or ShopeeFood, the app swaps in its own affiliate links, and after a successful order it returns part of the affiliate commission to users as cash, withdrawable to a bank card once they reach 50k VND. It didn't grow by luck. In Vietnam's wave of "paste-a-link cash back" small apps over the past 2026 years, it made the top tier by launching early, running sustained Facebook short-video ads, and buying endorsements from official TV stations and state media. On Google Play it has about 26k installs, and 806 ratings on iOS, and it has held steady at 11–15 on the Vietnam Google Play Shopping free chart.
Data
- Play installs: 19,947 (10-29) → 22,012 (10-31) → 24,465 (11-03) → 25,851 (11-06), +5,904 over 9 days, about 650 installs a day on average (googleplay library app_day). Charted in only one region, Vietnam: Shopping Top Free #12 / 13 / 11 / 12 / 13 / 15 / 12 / 11 / 11 (10-29 to 11-06, chart_rank).
- Play has no in-app purchase or rating data (Play ratings are blank); version 1.2.0,2026-10-27 is the latest update. The library records the first listing as 2026-02-25 (the 2026-08-20 on the data card is the date the store reset after a listing info change).
- iOS (id6759166815, developer name PPLab, seller NEXIS TECHNOLOGIES COMPANY LIMITED): listed 2026-03-09. Rating went 663 (10-28) → 806 (10-30, +150 jump) → 806 (11-06), average 4.81. In the Vietnam Shopping Top Free category it slid from #35 to #63 (appstore library). 10-30 gained +150 ratings in a single day and then stayed flat, which looks like one concentrated rating push.
- Official claim: 2026-08's sponsored article says "launched in March, already 20k+ users and about 150k orders" (hanoimoi.vn 2026-08-05).
Competitors: Vietnam's "paste-a-link cashback" space is already crowded
They do nearly the same thing (paste a Shopee/TikTok link → convert to an affiliate link → pay commission back):
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (within library, 11-06) | How it differs from Monback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ShopBack | iOS/Android/web | 2016 | Play 53.7M installs (across Southeast Asia); Vietnam iOS 16,330 ratings | Regional giant with a large merchant network and strong brand trust, but lower cashback rates |
| Cashbag | iOS/Android | 2019 | 8,826 ratings on Vietnam iOS | Local veteran cashback app |
| ShopNEXT (formerly Shopiness) | iOS/Android | 2021 (formerly 2016) | Play 129k; #46 in Vietnam Shopping | Veteran, multi-market |

| STK: Hoàn Tiền Mua Sắm(NEXATECH Minh Phát) | iOS/Android | 2026-05 | Play 69k; iOS 746 ratings; the same company also ships Matumi and PB Ví Hoàn Tiền | One company, a matrix of three reskinned apps |
| Heo Đất | iOS/Android | 2026-08/09 | Play 11.8k, +7.4k in 7 days (growing faster than Monback); iOS 623 ratings, +170 in 7 days | Latecomer, now chasing Monback with heavier ad spend |
| Matumi | iOS/Android | 2026-07 | 16.4k on Play | Has leaderboards and Lazada/ShopeeFood support |
| Hoàn Đồng, Longhousee, Mekoupon, Cây Khế, Hoàn Xu, Chéo Đơn, Hoantien24H, eCashback, Sập Sàn, Caffi, M4U, eback… | iOS/Android | 2026-03 to 2026-09 | A few hundred to a few thousand installs | Individual / small-team versions of the same model |
| Zalo group / website referral sites (hoantien365, chiahoahong.com, GoAffiliate, MD Back) | Web / groups | 2026 | Not verified | No app install needed; often claims 90% commission back |
| MoMo "Hoàn tiền mua sắm" | Big-company features | Not verified | Vietnam's national e-wallet | Same feature built into the wallet |
Bottom line: over 2026 years Vietnam's category spawned some twenty copycats. Monback was among the earliest launches in this 2026 cohort (iOS 3-09, launched around the same time as Hoàn Xu 3-07), and among the new players its scale ranks second or third tier (behind Riokupon and STK, ahead of the rest).
Growth channels
- Facebook / Instagram short-video ads (likely paid): the official page facebook.com/monback.hoantienthat keeps posting hook videos like "Paste a link in 5 seconds, get 78K back on Shopee", "Spend 600K on a dress, get 63K back" and "Spending 2M a month on Shopee?". The same creative runs on IG Reels and Threads. The "specific amount + one secret step" format is typical performance-ad creative. The metaads library doesn't track it, so there is no direct ad-library evidence. Marked unconfirmed.
- Paid TV / state-media placements for trust endorsement: 2026-08 the same sponsored article ran on hanoimoi.vn, baotuyenquang.com.vn and vietnam.vn; in mid-2026-09 it ran a feature on Hanoi TV station H1 (reposted by the official blog 10-21); on 2026-10-28 11:10 it aired on the VTV3 news slot (reposted on official YouTube / FB). The page bio reads "reported by VTV3 and Hanoi TV, safe to use". The biggest hurdle for cashback apps is "is this a scam?", and official media endorsement targets exactly that. After the VTV3 airing, 10-31 and 11-03 each gained about 2,000–2,500 installs, but the timing matches without confirming causation.
- Existing-user referrals: enter an invite code, get a bonus of 10k VND on your first order within 3 days (Threads post). FB group promo copy also says "you can earn cashback by inviting friends, even without buying anything".
- Own TikTok: @monback.official gets only a few hundred to 3,600 views per post, so it doesn't count as a real channel.
- Community / product sites: Unikorn.vn has a product page (the founder left a 5-star review), and in Shopee user FB groups people ask "which is better, Monback, ShopBack or Mekoupon?", which shows it has made the shortlist of names users compare.
- Concentrated iOS rating push: 10-30 gained +150 ratings in one day, then stopped.
Why it could take off
- The demand was already there, and the platform opened the door: Shopee's affiliate program is open to individuals, so anyone can turn product links into commission-bearing links. Vietnamese users place many orders on Shopee and TikTok Shop each month and like flash sales, so "pay the commission back to yourself" is a zero-cost way to save. In 2026 this went from semi-manual commission rebates in Zalo and FB groups to a batch of apps. In 2026-07/08 Shopee updated its affiliate terms to ban third-party wrapped links and links posted by bot accounts (voz.vn 2026-08-28 post). That reduced wild links on social platforms, but the in-app model of "placing the order on the user's behalf" was not directly named. Whether this helps or hurts Monback is unverified.
- Launched early: 2026-03 went live 4–6 months before latecomers like Heo Đất, Matumi and Cây Khế, banking 800 iOS ratings and tens of thousands of installs first.
- How the money comes back: revenue = the Shopee / TikTok affiliate commission minus what is paid back to users, plus ads shown in the Play app (ad_supported=True). The "up to 50%" claim applies to 50% of the order value and only holds on a few high-commission items. In FB groups someone replied "the rebate is very low, chiahoahong returns 50% commission instead". So each user brings in thin gross margin, and the business depends on order volume.
- Retention hook: cashback goes into an in-app wallet and can only be withdrawn past 50k. Users keep ordering through it to reach the threshold. That's a natural retention hook for this category.
Differentiation
Almost no product difference: paste a link, get cashback, withdraw past a minimum, same as Riokupon, STK, and Heo Đất. The pitches ("real money, not points", "no card linking", "stacks with platform coupons") are also category boilerplate. The real difference is trust marketing: registering a company, getting a business license, appearing on VTV3 and Hanoi TV, placing official-media content. In a category users suspect is a scam, that buys the "most legit-looking" slot. It's part of why it holds the top tier, but it doesn't create a real gap. Heo Đất launched two months ago and already out-grows Monback by 7 days, and Monback's iOS rank has been sliding since October.
How many people can see it?
- Revenue isn't public. No TrustMRR listing, no X discussion (x-radar: 90 posts over 0 days), no English media coverage. In Vietnam it's paid articles and TV features, with scattered talk in user groups. It's known inside a small local circle.
- Copycats are already plentiful: in 2026 Vietnam launched roughly 20 near-identical apps, and one company (NEXATECH Minh Phát) shipped three at once (STK, Matumi, PB Ví Hoàn Tiền).
Correction to an earlier finding
The data card recall said "PPLab also runs Heo Đất, Cây Khế, Hoàn Đồng, Longhousee, M4U and other reskinned apps." Verification doesn't support this: the iOS developer PPLab (id1877115694) has only Monback under its name. Heo Đất (NovaWorks / Ngoc Truong Minh), Hoàn Đồng (Just Enough / Tien Cuong Dang), Longhousee (LONGHOUSEE company), and Cây Khế (Hoai Phan) are all separate developers. They just sit next to each other in the App Store "customers also bought" section. The one actually running a portfolio is NEXATECH Minh Phát.
What to borrow
- Affiliate cashback is very cheap to build in emerging markets, one person can do it. The hard part is trust, not tech. Monback's approach: register a company, appear on TV, get official-media coverage, then add "reported by VTV3" to every ad. Buying trust for little money can be copied to any category where users suspect a scam.
- Creative formula: a specific amount (78K / 63K) plus the secret-feeling "one extra step before you pay". Suits FB Reels.
- Withdrawal threshold + wallet balance gives natural retention.
Still unclear
- The scale and spend of FB / IG campaigns (metaads didn't track it; couldn't query the Meta ad library directly).
- Whether VTV3 / H1 features are paid placements (in Vietnam these "covered by TV" pieces are usually paid, but there's no direct evidence).
- Actual cashback rate, gross margin per user, and whether Shopee's new terms apply to an app sending links on the user's behalf.
- Why the Play rating is empty (possibly under the minimum number of ratings to display).
