A small Peshawar workshop's Quran app: 258k installs, and only 760 more after 15 days of paid acquisition stopped
What it is An all-in-one Islamic app with Quran reading, prayer times, Qibla direction, dhikr counter, and AI Q&A, earning from ads and small in-app purchases to remove them. It comes from a small tools workshop in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Why it took off Prayer times are something Muslims use every day, and installs are cheap in places like Saudi Arabia and India. It pushed to 250k through several waves of acquisition, then grabbed a bit of search traffic with borrowed big names. With no paid ads running, it gets only about 50 organic installs a day.
DHow you could follow it Don't copy the all-in-one bundle, and don't borrow other brands' names. If you really want into this category, pick something template-based apps do badly, like Quran memorization with error correction, local mosque-calibrated prayer times, or onboarding for new Muslims, and make money through one-time purchases or subscriptions.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-05 · 11-07 installs 258,067
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
A developer in Peshawar, Pakistan, known for battery emoji, screen mirroring, and scoreboard tools, launched an all-in-one Quran app in August with Quran, prayer times, Qibla, and AI Q&A. Its title borrows two other brands. It hit 258k installs in three months and looks like it's growing. But laid out day by day, the installs act like a switch: on means people show up, off means nobody does. It's worth a look because it shows clearly what a pure paid-acquisition app looks like, not because there's an open lane here.
A review from Sep 5
In Sep 5 2026, a user named Suleman Ahmed left a review on Google Play saying:
it has a lot of adds may be the all reviews is fake (It has too many ads, and maybe all the reviews are fake.)
Ten days later the developer replied: "Our reviews are real. The ads help support Quran Majeed in continuing to improve. You can also buy the ad removal inside the app."
The week this comment was written was the app's first big push: from Sep 2 to 3, about 27k new installs in two days. A week later, from Sep 9 to 11, another 57k in two days, with a single-day peak of about 46k (third-party estimate). The store page now pins a different review, a five-star from Sep 12: "words can't explain how beautiful was the app," marked helpful by 38 people.
As of 11-06, it has a 4.5 rating from about 405 reviews on the Saudi and Indian store pages (11-06). For 258k installs, roughly one person in every 640 installs leaves a rating.
What it is and who made it
The app is now called "Quran, Aalim AI, Prayer, Qibla" with package name com.quran.quranmajeed.prayertimes.qibla.tasbeeh. It's listed under Lifestyle on Google Play, 2026-08-05 released, and 11-05 most recently updated to 1.1.2.
The features are standard for the category: full Quran text, translations, recitation audio, bookmarks; five daily prayer times and adhan reminders; a Qibla compass; dhikr counter, duas, mosque finder, Hijri calendar, and the 99 names of Allah. The only new element is the "Aalim AI" input box on the home screen, with the text "Clear Answers from Quran & Sunnah." The store screenshots use the Saudi flag and Medina as backdrops, with the Arabic slogan "الكل في واحد القرآن الكريم" (all in one, the Holy Quran). Monetization is ads plus in-app purchases, priced at $0.49 to $9.99 per item, and the developer openly says paying removes the ads.
The developer account is called Seeda Lyara Apps. The store page lists Tahir Shah in Peshawar, Pakistan, with a Gmail contact address, an empty Blogspot website, and a privacy policy hosted on Google Sites. The same account also publishes Battery Emoji Status Widget, Update Your Apps, Football Live Scores, Screen Cast, and Qibla Compass. Third-party stats say the account has been active since 2024 with about 500k total installs, and this one app accounts for half of that. It's a typical South Asian tools workshop: wherever a category can pay back acquisition, it puts out an app there.
The name is borrowed
The two words stuffed into the title, package name, and description both belong to other brands:
- Quran Majeed is an established app from Pakistan's Pakdata, launched in 2014 with about 41.6M installs on Google Play, and it already has an AI-powered iOS version. Even the developer replies to reviews calling themselves "Quran Majeed."
- Aalim AI is another existing Islamic AI assistant (Aalim - AI Islamic Assistant). It has been running video ads on Facebook since May 2025.
The third paragraph of the description lines up search terms in a row: "Whether you are looking for Al Quran, Quran Majeed, Quran Kareem, the Holy Quran, Quran audio, prayer times, Muslim prayer times, Salah times, Namaz times, Qibla direction, Azan reminders, or an Islamic AI assistant……" Searching "\"Aalim AI\" Islamic app" on Google, its store page is the first result (11-06).
The tactic works, but the table below shows how much traffic it actually brings in.
Where the traffic comes from: one switch
| Timeline | Total installs | Average new installs per day |
|---|---|---|
| 08-05 launch → 09-01 | 0 → about 8,900 | About 300 |
| 09-02 → 09-03 | → about 36k | +27k over two days |

The 25 days from Sep 10 to Oct 15 are the key window: total installs rose by only about 760, roughly 50 a day. That's its organic rate when nothing is spent, and the two borrowed big words in the title only bring that much. As soon as Oct 11 restarted spend, daily installs went back to three or four thousand. It's almost certain that most of these 250k installs were bought (inference), most likely through Google App Campaigns or ad networks. Public Meta, Google, and TikTok ad libraries show no record of it, but that doesn't prove it wasn't advertised.
Where it was pushed: it only charted on the Lifestyle category Free charts in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, India and Spain. Its best was #99 in Saudi Arabia (10-31), 11-06 was 138 in Saudi Arabia, 158 in India and 185 in Spain. It never charted overall or on any grossing chart. The screenshots use the Saudi flag and a homepage located in Medina, matching the target countries.
It's hard to find on social media: no one on X has mentioned "Aalim AI" in nearly 30 days, and the first 20 TikTok results for "Aalim AI quran app" are all rival apps like Tarteel and Al Siraat. No media outlet has written about it.
Who it's competing with
This is one of the largest, most evergreen categories on Google Play. The leaders (total Google Play installs, 11-06):
| App | Launched | Installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muslim Pro | 2011 | 149M | The category leader, with every feature covered |
| Quran Majeed(Pakdata) | 2014 | 41.6M | The big name it borrows from has added AI too |
| Tarteel | 2016 | 16.3M | AI listens to your recitation and corrects it; #1 in Saudi Books |
| Quran Majeed : القرآن الكريم(Ai Vibe Coding) | 2022-12 | 15.6M | The same long-name keyword-stuffing approach, from a bigger predecessor |
The more useful comparisons are the apps that arrived the same year:
- WeMuslim (2025-05): 14.9M installs, +1.86M in the last 7 days, #1 on the Saudi Lifestyle free chart. Same category, same country: it's at #1 while this app is at #138.
- Al Quran Kareem (Sahal Apps, 2026-07-30): launched 6 days earlier with the same reskin, already at 655k, and +7k in the last 168 days. Behind it are Qibla Finder (1.43M) and 16 lines Quran (3.16M), forming a matrix.
- Al Siraat (2026-05): AI-powered Quran learning, 4.92M installs.
- Qaf: Islamic AI (2026-05): built around AI Q&A, 224k installs, #7 in Saudi Books & Reference.
- Muslim Prayer: Quran Majeed (Nympt, 2026-06): also borrows the Quran Majeed name, 269k installs, about the same scale as this one.
At least a dozen apps use the "Quran Majeed + long keyword-stuffed name" approach, and new ones were still launching in Oct 22. Add ChatGPT and Gemini, which already answer Islamic questions directly, and the "AI" hook itself isn't scarce. Among this crowd, it's one of the weaker apps using the same approach at the same time.
Money: invisible, but probably covers costs
It never reached any grossing chart, so revenue can't be estimated. One thing is clear: prayer times and Qibla direction are things Muslims open every day, installs in India, Pakistan, and the Middle East are cheap, and interstitial ads plus small ad-removal purchases are enough to keep dozens of similar reskins spending. It resumed spending in Oct 11 and has kept going since, which suggests the math works for the operator (inference). But anyone who can run that math is doing it too.
If it were you
D. Worth knowing about, but nothing here is open for you: it's weak even within its own playbook.
Who it suits: a South Asian or Southeast Asian studio that already runs Google App Campaigns and has tool templates ready, treating Muslim utility apps as one more category to stack. Work out the cost per install and ad payback, and you don't need to study this app.
Who it doesn't suit: indie devs and small teams looking for an open lane. Above it sit older apps with over 100 million installs, and alongside it WeMuslim, which bought close to 2M installs in one week. Reskins launched the same week got there 2.5 times faster. With spend paused, even the borrowed names bring in only 50 people a day.
How to build it: if you really want into this category, don't make an all-in-one bundle, and don't borrow other brands' names (it draws bad reviews and risks takedown). Pick one thing template-based apps do badly: Quran memorization with error correction, prayer times calibrated to local mosques, or onboarding for new Muslims and kids. Charge a one-time fee or subscription rather than relying on interstitial ads. Tarteel, Qaf, and Al Siraat already occupy this ground, so you'd need a real understanding of these users to win.
How to acquire users: if you buy installs, follow its market choices: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and India, where category charts have lower barriers. Localize screenshots (flags, holy cities, Arabic slogans). If you rely on word of mouth, Ramadan is the biggest peak of the year.
When to start: demand is there all year, so there's no event deadline. To ride Ramadan traffic, the 2027 Ramadan starts around early February, so launch and build up ratings before mid-January.
What would show this read was wrong: (1) its organic daily installs climb to hundreds or thousands after spend stops, or it enters a Gulf grossing chart before December, which would mean the "AI" hook really does bring incremental installs and AI plus an all-in-one bundle still has room; (2) it or Sahal Apps climbs to the million-install range within a month or two while holding a top-50 chart position, which would mean this kind of reskin acquisition has a lower bar than it looks and small budgets can scale.

Bottom line
This app isn't really "breaking out" yet. It's a generic clone in the Islamic tools niche: Quran, prayer times, qibla direction, dhikr counter, plus an "Aalim AI" Q&A entry point. The title, bundle ID and listing copy are stuffed with Quran Majeed (Pakdata's big name, 41.6M installs) and Aalim AI (another established Islamic AI assistant). The 258k installs came in waves of paid acquisition: over the two-plus weeks from late September to 10 Oct, when spend was paused, it averaged only about 50 organic installs a day. Clones in the same niche that launched in the same period have scaled faster (Sahal Apps' Al Quran Kareem launched Jul 30 and has already reached 655k).
1. Data: the install curve is on-off (a signature of paid campaigns)
Data comes from the googleplay library: app_snap / app_day are our daily observations; app_day_ext is the cumulative curve since launch estimated by AppstoreSpy, with daily increments averaged between two observations.
| Period | Total installs | Average daily new installs | Read |
|---|---|---|---|

| 10-11 → 10-27 | 161,566 → 222,149 | About 3,600 | Ads resumed |
| 10-29 → 11-06 (our own observations) | 222,178 → 258,067 | About 4,500; +35,889 in the last 7 days | Ongoing paid acquisition |
- Charting: has only appeared in the Lifestyle free charts of the Saudi, UAE, India and Spain stores, at ranks 99–198 (best in Saudi Arabia: #99,10-31). Never made any overall or grossing chart (googleplay library, chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06).
- Ratings: the store page shows no rating count, and no reviews were captured in the library (app_snap.ratings is empty; the review table has 0 entries). 250k installs with zero public ratings suggests weak retention and engagement, and no prompting for reviews.
- Developer: this is the only app in the library; AppBrain shows Seeda Lyara Apps "active since 2024, 4 apps, roughly 500k installs in total", and the Play developer page currently lists 6. The others are utilities like Live Earth Map (GPS maps) and Update Your Apps (app updater); the developer website also links to globalinnovationltd.com and footballlivescoressapp.blogspot.com (via Jina search of AppBrain / Aptoide / Play developer pages). This is a typical small South Asian utilities shop that scales by switching categories.
2. Competitors
Islamic utilities is a big category on Play, with decades-old incumbents at hundreds of millions of installs, and many new reskins. Install counts are from the googleplay library (2026-11-06).
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Wemu: WeMuslim(Fyxtech) | Android | 2023-03 | 130M | Same as above; Chinese-backed going-global app |
| Quran Majeed(Pakdata) | Android/iOS | 2014 | 41.6M; the iOS version is called "Quran Majeed NUR AI & Tafsir" | The original being name-piggybacked, which has also added AI itself |
| Quran Majeed : القرآن الكريم (Ai Vibe Coding, package com.holyquran.alquran.majeed.qibla.prayertimes.tasbeeh.hisnulmuslim) | Android | 2022-12 | 15.6M | A predecessor using the same long-package-name keyword-stuffing approach, at far greater scale |
| Al Quran Kareem(Sahal Apps,com.alquran.holyquran.quranmajeed) | Android | 2026-07-30 | 655k, +7k in the last 168 days | A reskin listed on nearly the same day, growing 2.5x faster; Sahal also runs Qibla Finder (1.43M) and 16 lines Quran (3.16M) as a portfolio |
| Muslim Prayer: Quran Majeed(Nympt Dev Studio) | Android | 2026-06-10 | 269k | Also piggybacks on Quran Majeed, similar scale |
| Qaf: Islamic AI(Qaf, LLC) | Android/iOS | 2026-05-19 | 224k, #7 in the Saudi Books & Reference category | A product built around AI Q&A at its core, and ranks far higher in its category |
| Aalim - AI Islamic Assistant (com.aalimapp) / iOS "AI Muslim Assistant - Aalim" | Android/iOS | 2025 | Unverified (AppBrain; the Facebook page has been running video ads since 2025-05) | The original owner of the "Aalim" AI brand, which this app is riding on |
| Tarteel: AI Quran Memorization | Android/iOS | 2016 | 16.3M, #1 in the Saudi Books chart | AI Quran memorization correction, has funding and influencer campaigns |
| Al Siraat: Learn Quran & Qaida(Darwin Technology) | Android | 2026-05-21 | 4.92M | An AI Quran-learning app listed in 2026 among new entrants, growing much faster |
| Muslim AI Companion / Al Inarah and others | Android | 2023–2025 | 13–150k | Other Islamic AI assistants |
| General LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini) | Big-company features | — | — | Just ask any LLM Islamic questions directly. Q&A alone isn't scarce. |
Verdict: it has nothing exclusive. An all-in-one feature bundle is standard for this category. "Quran Majeed" and "Aalim AI" are both other people's names, AI Q&A already has dedicated products like Qaf, Aalim, and Tarteel, and the original Pakdata has added AI too.
3. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (likely Google App Campaigns or an incentive wall / ad network) | Installs follow an on/off curve: single-day spikes of 20k and 46k; once spend stops, only about 50 organic installs per day remain; after resuming, it settles at 3,500–4,500 per day. Zero store rating, and the bought traffic shows very low engagement. Meta Ad Library, Google Ad Library, and TikTok Ad Library don't track it (not being on the list doesn't mean it isn't advertising). | No (strong indirect evidence) |
| Store search ASO (name-riding, keyword stuffing) | Title "Quran, Aalim AI, Prayer, Qibla"; package name quranmajeed.prayertimes.qibla.tasbeeh; the description is a one-line list of Al Quran, Quran Majeed, Quran Kareem, Salah times, Namaz times, Azan…; a Google search for ""Aalim AI" Islamic app" returns its Play page first. | Yes (the approach is confirmed; but the volume it can bring, about 50 installs per day during the paused period, looks very limited). |
| Content / creators | A TikTok search for "Aalim AI quran app" shows that the first 20 results are all rivals like Ilm AI, Tarteel, and Al Siraat; x-radar shows 30 posts mentioning "Aalim AI" in the past 0 days. | Confirmed none |
| Media / celebrities | No coverage found. | Confirmed none |
Chart placement is spread across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and India (Spain was added later), which matches the cheapest paid-acquisition mix for Middle Eastern and South Asian Muslim users.
4. Why it reached 258k (the real reason it "broke out")
- Large, must-have category, with cheap installs: prayer times and qibla direction are things roughly 1.9B Muslims need every day, and installs are cheap in India, Pakistan, and the Middle East. Ads plus small in-app purchases can recoup the spend, as shown by dozens of similar reskinned apps that keep advertising.
- Sustained paid acquisition: almost all installs came during ad spend; from 9-25 to 10-10, when spending was paused, only about 15 extra installs came in 760 days.
- ASO name-riding: using Quran Majeed (established, 40M installs) and Aalim AI (an existing AI brand) as keywords to capture search traffic is the standard move for reskinned apps.
- "AI" as a new hook: over the past 2026 years, Islamic apps have been adding AI Q&A (Qaf, Al Siraat, Tarteel, Pakdata NUR AI). Putting AI in the title makes it look newer in the store, but there's no evidence this selling point drove incremental installs.
5. Differentiation
Almost none. Its supposed differentiation is just "all-in-one bundle + AI in the title." But the bundle is standard, dedicated AI Q&A products already exist (Qaf has been out for 5 months and ranks far higher in its category), and the original Pakdata has an AI version too. Its growth came from paid acquisition, not this positioning. Compared with Sahal Apps (655k) and WeMuslim (14.9M), which used the same approach at the same time, it's one of the weaker ones in this group.
6. Visibility / copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it. No media coverage, no discussion on X or TikTok, and revenue isn't public.
- Copycats: none specifically copying it. It is itself a copycat: "Quran Majeed + long package name with keyword stuffing" describes at least 14 apps in the library (Ai Vibe Coding, Sahal Apps, Nympt, Keyboard Mania, Extrabit, SmartPocket…), and 2026-10-22 new ones (Ayahfy, Holy Quran: Quran Majeed) have been listed since.
7. Takeaways
- Playbook template: pick a religious or utility category that is globally needed and cheap to acquire users in → build an all-in-one feature bundle → ride the name of a leading brand in the title and package name → add a hook that's trendy this year (AI) → buy installs in batches in the Middle East and South Asia, using ads plus small in-app purchases to recoup. The barrier is low, but everyone is doing it, and scaling depends on a portfolio of apps and budget (Sahal has 4 apps, and WeMuslim buys nearly 2M installs a week).
- How to tell: an on/off install curve with near-zero organic installs during paused periods can identify purely paid-acquisition apps. Comparing its scale with contemporaneous competitors shows whether it's strong or weak in this group.
8. Uncertain
- The specific ad channels (Google UAC, Meta, or incentive walls) and spend are unclear; none of the three ad libraries covers it.
- Whether the ads pay back: the in-app purchase price range comes from the store, but there's no Top Grossing ranking, so revenue can't be estimated.
- Which model Aalim AI runs on and how good the answers are: not tested.
- Whether "Aalim AI" was in the title at launch or added in the 10-20 or 11-05 update: not verified.
