# A police car auction video with 2.45M views: a Chilean-made auction listing app, $3 a month, and people subscribe even with a pile of bad reviews

**What it is** An app that aggregates publicly listed vehicle and property auctions across Chile, with a subscription of about $3 a month to see the listings.

**Why it took off** A short-video account focused on police and government vehicle auctions turned bargain-hunting curiosity into store searches. One police auction video got 2025-11-16M views 2.45; a price of $3 is low enough to be an impulse buy, and that absorbed plenty of bad reviews.

**B** **How you could follow it** Pick a Latin American country or bargain category with lots of public auctions and scattered information, and start a content account that posts one specific lot and its starting price every day. The app should just be a catalog plus alerts, without copying its hard paywall or hard-to-cancel subscription.

B grade: clear playbook, low cost, little known yet, so it can be copied; but the data is all public, retention is weak, and revenue is probably only a few thousand dollars a month. Success depends entirely on whether you can make a hit content account. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2025-11-11 · 11-07 installs 155,934

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

An indie developer in Chile gathered vehicle and property auctions from police departments, government agencies, courts, and dozens of auction houses into one app, and you can't see anything without paying. What drove its growth wasn't the product but a short-video account that posts government vehicle auctions every day. On Google Play it has been installed 156k times in a year, and it has stayed in the top 12 of Chile's iOS Finance Top Grossing chart. The playbook is cheap and could move to other countries, but figure out how big it can get first.

### A 78-second video

On 2025 Nov 16, the TikTok account "el Weon de los autos" (@elweondelosautos7, roughly "that car guy") posted a 78-second video with a single-line title: "remate online de carabineros de Chile", an online auction of Chilean police (Carabineros) vehicles. The footage shows a row of retired police cars and police motorcycles, with starting prices on screen.

To date the video has 2.45M views, 91k likes, and 55k shares, 14k of them forwarded to WhatsApp. The most-liked comments: "Can you actually drive a bought police car on the road?" (3,910 likes), "Looking at this with nothing in my pocket" (2,963 likes). Scrolling down, it's the same question over and over: "What site are you using, bro?" "Where do I look?" "Is this app Android-only? I can't find it on iOS."

The video gives no URL, just tells people to search the store for "rematefacil". 6 days earlier, on Nov 10, the same account had posted "búsquenla como rematefacil" (search rematefacil and it's there), and the next day the first review showed up on Play: "Vine por un tiktok, es PÉSIMO" (I came from a TikTok, it's TERRIBLE). On Nov 17, the day after the hit post, Play logged a dozen-plus one-star reviews in a single day. 11 days later, the iOS version went live.

### What it is

RemateFacil (renamed AuctionEasy on Play), developer Alejandro Ignacio Vera Paz, listed on Play as janocode, an individual. The app aggregates public auctions in Chile into one directory: cars, motorcycles, trucks, houses and miscellaneous goods from the state asset office DICREP, Carabineros, city governments, courts, and auction houses like Reyco, Tattersall and Macal. You can filter by category, save favorites, get reminders before auctions start, and see a calendar. It can't place bids; tapping through just sends you to the auctioneer's own site.

The store description's first sentence sets the rules: "Subscription access only, like Netflix or Spotify." Chilean users pay 2,900 pesos a month, about $3 USD (per a review); the Play in-app purchase range is $2.99–79.99.

A few numbers:

- Play shows 155,934 cumulative installs worldwide (Google Play, 11-06), +7 over the last 2,661 days, roughly 380 a day, and it has plateaued. The listing date on Play is 2026-07-10, which reflects a reset after the rename and after adding the US store and English and Portuguese; the first review is from 2025-11-11, so it's nearly a year old.

- On the iOS Chile Finance Top Grossing chart, it sat between #10-28 and #11-06 from 6 to 12, peaking at #11-06 on 6, but has only 36 ratings in total.

- Nearly all the reviews are from Chileans: they write "2,900clp", use Chilean slang like "wea", "penca" and "ni un brillo", and complain about "cancelling the PAT" (Chile's automatic card debit). On Play it's charted at #9–12 on the EVENTS Top Grossing chart in Mexico and Argentina, but the ranks match day for day across both, which suggests a shared Latin American aggregate chart, not organic performance in each country.

### Where users come from: a content account that exists only to drive installs

@elweondelosautos7 now has 115k TikTok followers and 528 videos, cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook. The police-car video has another 329k views on Facebook, and the Nov 10 "search rematefacil" post has 113k views on Facebook. The daily content is one specific vehicle a day: "subasta de camioneta", a pickup auctioned at a given place on a given day, with 0.4–56k plays per video (TikHub, 2026-10).

The reviews spell out the funnel: "I came from TikTok too" (2025-11), "I downloaded it after seeing a video on Instagram" (2025-12), "not even 10% of what's shown on Facebook" (2026-01).

Is this account the developer's own? There's no direct evidence: the profile doesn't link the app or claim to be the developer. But it promotes only this one app, the posting and launch dates line up exactly, and the auction items in the videos are the same data the app shows. Most likely self-run or a long-term partnership, though this is inference. No ad-buying records were found, so this is unverified.

The traffic converts because of the topic choice. "Police car starting at 200k pesos" and "city-auctioned pickup" naturally trigger the urge to snag a bargain, and viewers' first reaction is "where do I look?" The videos deliberately withhold the answer and give only a name, turning curiosity into a store search.

### Where the money comes from: low price, hard paywall, no reliance on retention

After installing and signing up, the first screen is a paywall. Most of the 106 reviews are one-star, mostly about this: "you can't see anything without paying, not even a trial" and "I had no idea if it was useful before paying." The rest complain about cancelling: "where do you cancel the subscription? I can't find it anywhere" and "nobody answers the phone or replies to email."

People still subscribe anyway. One four-star reviewer said: "2,900 pesos a month, I don't think that's expensive; only people who find it expensive complain." At $3 USD, it's cheap enough to pay on impulse, and people hunting for a bargain don't want to miss an auction, so they don't mind the cost.

The problem is retention. One user who paid for a month wrote: "Not worth it. It shows you the old sites like JDV, CGR and DICREP, and there are more auctions in the Official Gazette." Another: "It just takes you to the auction's web page; searching Google for Remates gives you more information." All the data is public and free, so the business depends on the content account sending a steady stream of impulse subscribers each day, not on existing users renewing.

Around 2026 June it added a free trial. One positive review said "thanks for adding a free trial period," but later someone wrote, "on the trial day you can't see anything, just a few auctions with no information."

As for revenue: it's not disclosed. The iOS Chile Finance chart and the Latin American Play EVENTS chart both have low entry bars, so #6 or #11 may mean only a few dozen sales a day (estimate). At $3 per sale, that's a business in the low thousands of dollars a month, estimated, and most likely under $10K.

### Who it's competing with

| Name | Where | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| DICREP auction calendar, TGR property auction platform | Government web maps | Free and official, but each one runs its own silo |
| Auction houses Reyco, Tattersall, Macal, Zárate and others | Their own websites, and they post on TikTok themselves | Only their own inventory |
| capitalremates.cl, DonRematon and others | Web | Only foreclosed properties, some offer free alerts |
| Casa Compartida(@_casacompartida_) | TikTok 116k followers | Teaches foreclosure buying, sells courses and consulting, not tools |
| Rematto — Remates en Chile | iOS Chile, 2026-07-31 | Nearly the same positioning, launched 8 months later, 2 ratings |
| RemateHoy (Panama), Central de Remates (Uruguay) | TikTok / web | Same idea of one national auction list, none of them has gained traction |
| Copart / IAA | US app | Is itself an auction platform that takes bids, a different thing |

Chile doesn't lack auction information; what's missing is something built for ordinary people, centered on cars, spanning all auction houses, and pushed to phones. But anyone can build that, since the data is public. What really separates the winners is the content account: Rematto has no content account, and RemateHoy's videos only pull a few thousand views, so neither took off.

It isn't well known either: no press coverage, no discussion on X, only known among car bargain-hunters on Chilean TikTok. The developer is using the same traffic playbook to launch new products: HistoryCar (iOS, 2026-03), a vehicle history lookup, and Drivify (iOS, 2026-04), a driving-test app that ranks #31–96 in Chile's free Education chart. The Play version added US auctions and English and Portuguese.

### If it were you

**B.** The approach is cheap and clear, and you can copy it, but the ceiling is low and retention is poor. The real barrier is whether you can build a hit content account, not the app itself.

**Who it suits** : 1 individuals who can shoot short videos and are willing to post one every day, ideally living locally and speaking the local language. Those who already run a car, housing, or secondhand content account are a better fit, since they already have the hardest half of this.

**Who it doesn't suit** : pure coders who won't make videos (the product has no moat, and a copy takes a week); people who want a long-term subscription business that depends on reputation and renewals (the data is free and users leave after one month); people aiming for tens of thousands a month (in Chile this scale is a few thousand a month).

**How to do it** : switch country or switch category. Pick a country with lots of public auctions, scattered information, and no one aggregating it in Spanish or Portuguese. Peru, Colombia, Mexico (SAT, state governments, bank liquidations) and Brazil (Detran seized vehicles, court auctions) are worth checking first. For category, pick one that naturally feeds the fantasy of a bargain: police cars, seized vehicles, foreclosed homes, customs confiscations. The app is just a directory, filters and auction alerts, buildable in one or two weeks, for about $3 a month. Don't copy its hard paywall or hard-to-find cancellation. Give a free tier that shows auctions in the local area, make cancellation easy to find, and you'll cut bad reviews by half, probably without losing conversions.

**How to get users** : start an account that only posts "public stuff sold cheap", cross-posted to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. One post a day: a specific vehicle, a starting price, a location, ending with a line like "search xxx". Your first videos should cover something the whole country is curious about: in Chile it was police cars; elsewhere it could be presidential motorcades, luxury cars seized by customs, or a celebrity house sold at a court auction. When comments start asking "where do I look?", you know it's working.

**Timing** : there's no hard window, since it doesn't rely on a one-off event. But similar apps have already appeared in Panama and Uruguay, and whoever first establishes a hit content account in a country locks in the name, so earlier is better.

**Signs you've misjudged it** : after 30 posts, none has passed 100k views, or the comments never ask "where do I look?", which means people in that country aren't interested in public auctions; switch countries or categories. Or you get a hit, but store-search conversion is low and almost all paying users cancel by month two, which means $3 can't sustain it; treat it as a side project for a content account, not a standalone business.

## Why RemateFacil (Play store name AuctionEasy, com.rematefacil.app) took off

### One line

A Chilean indie developer, Alejandro Ignacio Vera Paz (Play developer name janocode, iOS name Alejandro Vera), built an app that aggregates Chile's public auctions (remates): cars, property and goods from DICREP, the police (Carabineros), municipalities, courts and auction houses, all compiled into a catalog. It has a hard paywall subscription (about 2,900 Chilean pesos/month, in-app purchase range $2.99–$79.99). It works because a short-video account focused on "police car / bus auction on site" funnels traffic straight to the store: one "Carabineros online auction" TikTok got 2.45M views (2025-11-16). Negative reviews pile up, yet people keep buying subscriptions.

### Two corrections to the data card

1. **This isn't a 4-month-old app; it has been live for about a year.** Play's `released_store` reads 2026-07-10, but the earliest review in the database is from 2025-11-11 (googleplay `app.first_review`). The listing date was reset when the app was renamed AuctionEasy and the US store and English/Portuguese were added. The iOS version launched 2025-11-27 (iTunes lookup), not January 2026 as the card said.

2. **Its users are mainly in Chile, not Mexico or Argentina.** All 106 reviews in the database are tagged mx, but the text is full of Chilean slang (wea, penca, ni un brillo, ql) and refers to "2,900clp", "remates de carabineros", "JDV, CGR, DICREP" and "cancelar el PAT" (Chile's automatic credit card debit). The Play database has no Chile storefront, so the reviews were pulled through the Mexico storefront. The mx and ar EVENTS grossing charts have identical daily rankings (10/10, 11/11, 9/9…; googleplay `chart_rank` 10-29 through 11-06), which suggests a shared Latin American aggregate chart. On iOS it only charts in Chile.

### Data

- Play global cumulative installs are 155,934 (2026-11-06), up +2,661 over the last 7 days, roughly 380 per day (googleplay `app_day`). Counting from the first review, the average is about 430 per day, and growth has flattened.

- On the Play EVENTS grossing chart, mx/ar ranked #9–12, charting continuously from 10-29 to 11-06. On the EVENTS free chart in ar it is sliding, from #84 to #198.

- iOS Chile: Finance grossing chart #6–12 (from 10-28 to 11-06,11-06 it was #6), with only 36 ratings and +1 in a week (appstore `app_day`). Top-ten grossing with so few ratings means few paying users at a low price point, and the bar for Chile's Finance grossing chart is low.

- Revenue is not public. Searching "rematefacil" in the local X corpus returns 0 posts (x-radar).

### Where users come from (growth levers)

**Main channel: a short-video account dedicated to public-sector auctions, @elweondelosautos7 (El weon de los autos), posting the same content on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.**

- 2025-11-10, TikTok posted "rematefacil de vehículos online, búsquenla como rematefacil" (56.5k views). The same video got 113k views on FB, and the IG caption read "Rematefacil en play store para los que me preguntan tanto". **The next day, 2025-11-11, the first Play review appeared.**

- 2025-11-16, TikTok "remate online de carabineros de Chile": **2.45M views, 91k likes, 387 comments** (TikHub). The same video got 329k views on FB. The comments were all asking "which app?" and "Android only? I can't find it on iOS." The iOS version launched 11 days later. 2025-12-05 brought another Carabineros auction, with 650k views.

- The account now has 115k followers, 528 posts and 540k likes. It posts a daily "subasta de camioneta" (pickup truck auction) with 0.4–56k views per video (TikHub 2026-10).

On 2025-11-17 alone, a dozen-plus one-star reviews landed, matching the 11-16 viral video.

- **There is no direct evidence** that the account belongs to the developer: it doesn't link to the app and doesn't claim to be the developer. But it promotes only this one app, its posting dates line up closely with the launch, and its content is the app's own data (a given car at a given place being auctioned on a given day). The most likely read is an in-house or long-term partner content account.

- A line on the TikTok hashtag page reads "use code 444 to subscribe and double your plan". Which account posted it, and whether it is this app's referral code, is unverified.

- Ads: not found in the library (the ad library only tracks listed products, so absence doesn't mean no spend). Unverified.

**Why this traffic converts:** content like "police car starting at 200k pesos" or "municipal pickup auctioned off" has a built-in bargain appeal, and viewers immediately ask where to look. The videos give no link, only "search rematefacil", which turns curiosity into one store search.

### Why people would pay

- The price is low enough for impulse buys: 2,900 CLP is about $3 per month. One user wrote "2900 pesos, I don't think it's expensive" (2026-01).

- People who want a bargain feel they lose money by missing an auction. The app has bookmarks, alerts and a calendar (Mi Agenda), and the subscription sells "no more scanning newspapers and a dozen auction house websites every day".

- The hard paywall pushes conversion as high as possible: you pay as soon as you install. Negative reviews mostly attack this, along with "I don't know how to cancel" and "unauthorized charges". A free trial or a few free views were added around 2026-06 (one positive review says "thanks for adding the free trial period"), but people still complain the trial shows nothing.

- Retention is weak. One user said, "I paid for a month, and the content is just the DICREP, CGR and JDV websites, with more in the Official Gazette", and "it just jumps to the auction house website". The business runs on a steady stream of short-video-driven impulse subscriptions, not long-term retention.

### Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from RemateFacil |

| TGR property auction platform remates.tgr.cl | Website (government) | 2025-01 | Official | Free, only property and court auctions; RemateFacil focuses on vehicles |
| Individual auction house websites: Reyco, Tattersall, Macal, Zárate, Remates del Río, Manquehue, Fuenzalida and others | Website / own app | Years | A few hundred vehicles a month each | Only their own lots, and they post TikToks too. RemateFacil is a cross-auction-house catalog. |
| capitalremates.cl, rematesinmobiliarios.cl, DonRematon | Web | Not verified | capitalremates lists 1,064+ items for sale | Real estate and court auctions only, some free alerts. RemateFacil focuses on cars, mobile-first, subscription-based. |
| Migue "Casa Compartida" (@_casacompartida_) | TikTok / IG + web tool + courses | From ¥2025-01 | TikTok 116k followers | Property foreclosure teaching + consulting monetization. RemateFacil sells tool subscriptions. |
| RematAI | Web tool promoted on IG | 2026 | Not verified | Property auctions + AI market-value estimates. Same pitch of "scanning auctions for you every early morning". |
| Rematto — Remates en Chile(Jorge Riquelme) | iOS | 2026-07-31 | Chile, 2 ratings | Nearly identical name and positioning, launched 8 months later, never gained traction |
| Central de Remates | Website (Uruguay) | 2026 beta | 617 items on sale | Same "all national auctions in one table" idea, in Uruguay |
| RemateHoy | Panama, promoted on TikTok | 2025-11 | 2–3k views per TikTok | Identical pitch ("no more hunting newspapers for auctions"), appeared the same week, never gained traction |
| Copart / IAA | Android / iOS (US) | 2011–2015 | Play 7.35M / 2.82M installs | Is itself an auction platform where you can bid. RemateFacil only aggregates information and can't bid. |

Conclusion: Chile has many free official and auction house information sources, but **no aggregator app built for ordinary people, focused on cars, covering all auction houses, with mobile push alerts** . The real moat is not the data (reviews say it's all free to find elsewhere) but that short-video account.

### Differentiation, and was it the reason it worked?

- On the product side: turn scattered "public / police / municipal impound vehicle" auctions into one mobile catalog with alerts, aimed at ordinary people rather than auction-house regulars. This is a necessary condition, but the bar is low because the data is all public.

- The real differentiator is **distribution** . The content account posts one specific car with its opening bid every day. The earliest viral hit, the "Carabineros police car auction", was something the whole country was curious about, and it turned an information gap into content. Similar players (Rematto, RemateHoy, RematAI) either have no content account or one that never took off, so none of them got going.

- So the reason it worked is the distribution playbook plus timing (the Carabineros online auctions were already getting attention at 2025-10/11, and other accounts were posting at the same time). The product itself has poor reviews, and that is not the reason.

### Who is copying it and how visible it is

- Copycats: Rematto (iOS Chile, 2026-07,2 ratings). Panama's RemateHoy, Uruguay's Central de Remates and Chile's RematAI are parallel products built on the same idea (whether they copied it can't be verified).

- Visibility: no press coverage, no discussion on X, revenue not public. It is known only within Chile's TikTok "bargain car buying" circles, and outsiders barely know it exists.

- The developer is using the same traffic to expand the product line: HistoryCar (vehicle history lookup, iOS 2026-03) and Drivify (driving test questions, iOS 2026-04, ranked #31–96 on Chile's free Education chart, 93 ratings). The Play version was renamed AuctionEasy, with US auctions and English/Portuguese added (1.5.1 update notes).

### What to borrow

- "Public but scattered data + a short-video account that turns the data into content + a low-priced hard paywall": post one specific lot every day (this car opens at this price), withhold the answer in the video, and send people to search the name in the store.

- Pick topics that naturally feed the fantasy of a bargain: police cars, impounded vehicles, foreclosed property.

- Price impulse subscriptions around $3 a month, which can absorb a lot of negative reviews, but retention is poor, so content has to keep pulling in new users.

- One content account can feed several apps on the same theme (vehicle history, driving test).

### Still unclear

- Whether @elweondelosautos7 belongs to the developer or is a paid creator.

- Actual subscriptions and revenue: the bar for both the Chile iOS Finance grossing chart and the LatAm Play EVENTS grossing chart is low, so ranks #6 or #11 may mean only a few dozen orders a day.

- No ad libraries show this product on Meta or TikTok.

- Who the referral code "444" belongs to.

- Are there real users in Mexico, Argentina, or the US? From the reviews, almost all of them are Chilean.
