RepChamp: a push-up duel video with 2.98M views, and a track that's already crowded
What it is A fitness mini-game that uses your phone camera to automatically count push-ups and squats, then lets you race friends or strangers in real time on rep count, 1v1.
Why it blew up In the first few days after the iOS launch, the official TikTok account posted three split-screen duel recordings totaling about 6.8M views. After the Play version went up, its ratings were unusually strong (ratings/installs about 20%, versus around 1% for comparable apps), which helped its conversion among many similar options. There may also be off-platform traffic.
CHow you could follow Don't build the Nth push-up duel app. If you do follow, go after what it does poorly (accurate counting, anti-cheating, free duels, more exercises or niche audiences like fitness test prep), and copy its playbook: the official account posts real duel recordings from inside the app every day.

RepChamp is a fitness mini-game from an independent Swiss developer: your phone camera counts your push-ups, then pulls in a stranger for a real-time rep race, 1v1. It cold-started through recordings of duels posted by the official TikTok account, and in just over two months it reached about 46k installs on Google Play. But the same idea has had a dozen-plus clones for 2026 years. A large developer with 120M installs copied it at the end of September, and within a week its new installs were already higher. Below: how it took off, where the money comes from, who's competing, and whether you should still follow.
One person built 117 in 1 minutes
In 2026 Jul 20, the TikTok account @repchampapp posted a 15-second vertical video with a single line of text: "First time losing 😭". The screen is a split view of the app: you on top, a matched opponent below, both numbers ticking up in real time, and at the end the opponent stops at 117.
As of Nov 6 this video has 2.98M views and 120k likes (TikTok, 11-06). The most-liked comment is "In 1 minute 117?" (16k likes), followed by a string of "final boss 💀", "David Goggins ☠️", Spanish "JEFE FINAL", and a Russian comment saying doing 117 in one minute is impossible, that's about two per second. Scroll further and there's another kind of comment: "app name?", "when for Android🥺" (393 likes), "day 4 of asking to make it free".
Three days before this video, on Jul 16, RepChamp went live on the App Store. In the 1 to 4 days after launch, the account's three duel videos drew 2.35M, 2.98M, and 1.46M views, about 6.8M in total. That was its cold start.
What it is
In one line: the camera counts your push-ups and squats, then you compare with others. Motion recognition happens locally on the phone (the store page says "your training videos are not uploaded"). You can train solo, climb leaderboards, and build win streaks, but the core is real-time 1v1 with friends or random opponents.
On Google Play the developer is named GR9 Studio; on the App Store the name is David Gradinariu, and on LinkedIn he appears as a quant / machine learning engineer based in Switzerland. He also has GlowUp Daily (a "self-improvement" habit-tracking app) with 123k installs on Play, about 170k combined across both. The website is hosted on Vercel. It looks like one person running a series of "self-improvement" mini apps with the same playbook.
Where users come from
First, the official TikTok account, confirmed. The account has 9,446 followers, 477k likes, and 133 posts (TikHub, 11-06). It only posts one kind of content: split-screen duel recordings from the app, with titles like "Easy win ngl 💪", "Bro got the wrong rank 😭", "I didn't expect this 💀", always tagged #pushups #duel #pushupchallenge. No influencers, the app itself is the content machine: play a match, record a match. The bio says "Search RepChamp on the App Store."
But the buzz faded fast. After the three hits in July, August brought 29 posts totaling about 1.5M views, September 23 posts at about 230k, and the batch from mid-October had just over ten thousand each. The matching Reels on Instagram: the 10-20 one has only 1 likes.
Second, Google Play, and far larger volume than iOS. TikTok comments included people asking "when for Android," and the Play version launched in Aug 27. Installs jumped in waves: the first big surge came around Sep 10, at roughly 4,800 a day; a second surge in early Oct 31 reached about 13k a day; afterwards it settled to a thousand or two a day (Google Play install counts and third-party estimates, 10-29 to 11-06). 10-29 is 23,814,11-06 is 45,691, nearly doubling in a week. On iOS in the US store, by 11-06 it had only 154 ratings (App Store, 11-06).
Play installs concentrated in low-cost markets like Italy, Turkey, Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. During the jump in early Oct 31, its category ranking actually fell. That pattern looks more like off-platform traffic, such as paid ads (an inference; I didn't find its ads in public ad libraries, but not finding them doesn't mean it didn't run any).
第三,评分多得不正常。 11-06 Play 上 9,248 个评分,对 4.57 万安装,比例约 20%。同类的 Pushup RPG 是 1.4%,Push Up Time 是 1.2%,Pushup Legends 0.8%。
Where the money comes from
Subscription. On iOS, $7.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $29.99 (third-party price tracker, 11-03); Play in-app purchases at $8.99–32.99. It started with a hard paywall, and the one-star iOS reviews concentrate on it: "This app is paid wasted my time just so in the end to see it's paid" (7-31), "paid" (7-29). Later a free tier was added, and the store page now says "Use the free version; Pro unlocks unlimited matches, AI coach, advanced stats." But August's reviews still say "Free plan should have more freedom and energy." Some people do pay: "THE APP IS SO CHEAP for the year package" (8-30, five stars).
It has never charted in any country's Top Grossing, and its category Top Free only reached past #100 (11-06 now down to #155 in Vietnam and #162 in the Philippines). Revenue is not public; likely small (inference).
Who it's competing with
2026 camera-counted push-ups plus gamification is a crowded lane. This year, new App Store apps with push-up in the name number in the hundreds, and at least a dozen go straight for 1v1 matches.
| Product | Launched | Scale (11-06) | How it differs from RepChamp |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pushup Legends: Duel Arena (from the developer of AZ Screen Recorder) | Play,9-29 | 39.9k installs, 7 days +25.7k | Nearly identical gameplay and copy, backed by a screen-recorder giant with 120M installs. Weekly new installs already exceed RepChamp's, and it still rides the "repchamp" search term. |
| Pushup RPG: Fitness Quest | iOS 6-25 / Play 7-31 | 172k installs, 7 days +11k | A single-player boss-fighting RPG with no matches, nearly 4 times RepChamp's size. |
| Push Up Time: AI App Blocker | Play,2025-11 | 530k installs | You unlock your phone by doing push-ups; it sells putting the phone down. |
| Rise New Hero: RPG Fitness | Play,2026-03 | 197k installs, charted in Brazil's Top Grossing. | RPG progression, better monetization; ratings-to-installs ratio about 20%, similar. |
| Shaply: Push-ups & 1v1 Duels | 2026-08 | 73k installs, 7 days +10.7k | The same 1v1, with iOS across 20 stores. |
| Push Up Boss: Multiplayer Game | Play,6-05 | 65k installs, barely growing. | Made multiplayer matches earlier, with no content distribution, and stalled. |
| Push Up Arena, Reppy, RepStrike, PushArena, PushWar, RepWar, PumpDuel, and others. | iOS, from April to October. | Each has a few to a hundred or so ratings. | Same idea, with no one pushing it at scale. |
There are also copycats riding the name: a same-named app, "Fitness Duel: RepChamp", hit Google Play in October (package gg.repchamp.app, a different developer). On GitHub, someone had already built an open-source version with the same name back in Jul 27, adding a "couples mode".
The takeaway is simple: RepChamp was not the first, nor the biggest. In the small niche of "real-person 1v1 matches" it is among the leaders, and what drives that is distribution reaching further than rivals, not features. The lead is thin.
What users are complaining about
Reading the iOS US reviews, apart from the paywall, nearly everything else falls into these (App Store, July to September):
- Counting is off: "It couldn't even calculate how many times I was doing the push-ups" (9-01, two stars); "Tracking is bad on squats but is pretty good on pushups" (8-09). TikTok comments also ask "why doesn't the app count my push-ups," and some mock opponents with "What are those half reps bro."
- Stuck at sign-up: "My cousin and I saw it on TikTok and wanted to 1v1, but got stuck on creating a username and never got to use it once" (8-24, one star).
- Requests for more moves: "pls add situps or plank," and two five-star reviews are both asking for sit-ups and planks.
The weak point of 1v1 is fairness: if your opponent does 117 a minute, viewers find it funny, and the loser assumes cheating. Bad counts and half reps that still count make matches meaningless.
If it were you
C
You can learn a very cheap cold-start playbook, but following this category is not a good bet. A dozen teams are building the same idea this year, a big developer has already copied it and is moving faster, and RepChamp's own TikTok reach fell from millions of views in July to around 10K per video by October. Play volume is also likely propped up by rating operations and off-store traffic.
Who it suits: small teams that already have a fitness or mini-game app, can build camera-based motion recognition, and want to add a "match" mode; or people who know a non-English market well (for example Russian-speaking or Latin American Spanish markets, where the hit's comments are most common in those two languages) and can run a screen-recording account in the local language.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers who want to build a "push-up 1v1" from scratch and head-to-head it in the English market. The product has no moat, a big company could copy it in a week, and store search terms get taken.
How to do it: if you must follow, don't build the Nth push-up battle. Go after what it does poorly: counts must be accurate, half reps don't count, and matches need anti-cheat (fairness is what makes matches worth anything). Give free matches from the start and put payment on training plans and stats. Expand to sit-ups, planks, jump squats, or switch audiences, such as practice matches for school fitness tests or military and police physical exams. The more valuable thing to borrow is the format itself, which can move to other categories with clear winners and losers that are understandable within 3 seconds.
How to acquire users: copy its approach. Open an official account and post real match recordings from the app every day, with emotional titles like "I lost," "I won," "the opponent is the final boss," 15 seconds each. If one takes off, have downloads ready on both Android and iOS, so the "when for Android" comments don't go to waste. On the store page, build up ratings from real users. Don't buy them.
When to move before: the novelty of this idea is fading, and there are already many similar match videos on TikTok. To catch this wave, launch no later than the "New Year fitness" season in January 2027.
What would show you misread it: ① if RepChamp or Pushup Legends breaks into the top 50 of a country's fitness Top Grossing over the next two or three months, the format monetizes better than it looks, and it is worth entering; ② conversely, if Play installs stall around 50k after Google clears its anomalous ratings, the volume was mainly propped up, and this path is even less worth taking.

Why RepChamp: Fitness Duel (com.repchamp.app) took off
Channel: Google Play (same iOS id 6786665171). Developer: listed on Play as GR9 Studio, on iOS as the individual account David Gradinariu (LinkedIn lists a Swiss quant/ML engineer). Research date 2026-11-06.
Bottom line
RepChamp is a fitness mini-game that uses the phone camera to count push-ups and squats on-device with AI, then pulls in 1v1 real-time rep-count matches with strangers. It grew on two fronts: first, the official TikTok account posted first-person recordings of "me vs. strangers in 1v1 push-up battles" in bulk, and after the July iOS launch, 3 videos totaled about 6.8M views; second, its Google Play rating count is suspiciously high, 9,248 ratings against 45.7k installs, a ratings-to-installs ratio of 20%, where comparables typically sit at 0.2–1.4%, with strong signs of rating fraud or rewarded rating prompts. Its format (camera-counted reps plus 1v1 matches) has been a crowded, copycat lane for 2026 years, so it is not a differentiated product. Scale is modest too: 46k installs, no Top Grossing chart placement. Separately, a larger developer (AZ Screen Recorder) launched a nearly identical app in late September, and its 7-day new installs have already passed RepChamp's.
1. Data (from our database)
- Installs (googleplay.app_day): 10-29 23,814 → 11-06 45,691,7 days, new installs 21,877. Installs jump in batches (10-31 +13,094, 11-03 +5,859, 11-05 +1,798, 11-06 +1,126), and have slowed in the last few days.
- Since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate): 08-27 launched on Play, 09-02 it had 1,518 installs; around 09-10 a single day brought roughly 4,800 (the first jump); from September to late October it averaged 200–600,10-31 per day around a second jump (about 6,500/day), then settled back to 1,000–2,000/day.
- Ratings: 6,925 → 9,248 (8 days +2,323). About +95 to +419 a day, while daily new installs average only about 2,700. In the histogram, 5-star ratings make up about 71%, and the average fell from 4.75 to 4.53; only 33 written reviews (0.36%).
- Charts: only ever on the Health & Fitness category's free chart, and always past #100: 10-29 was charting in 9 stores at once (de/id/it/my/ph/pl/th/tr/vn, best at tr #75), and by 11-06 only vn #155 and ph #162 remained. It never appeared on the overall or Top Grossing charts.
- Pricing: Play in-app purchases $8.99–$32.99; iOS subscription $7.99/month, $19.99 or $29.99/year (apppricer.com, 2026-11-03). One iOS review mentions the developer "introduced a free plan," so it started as a hard paywall.
- iOS: Listed on 2026-07-16, 154 US-store ratings (itunes lookup, 11-06). Our appstore data only has records in the uz/jo/gy stores, with single-digit ratings. AppInsider estimates 1k+ lifetime iOS installs, MWM says 25k+. The two numbers use different methods and I haven't verified either.
- GlowUp Daily, same developer (com.glowupdaily.app): 123k installs, 14,451 ratings (11.8%), 8 days with 6,765 new ratings against 38.7k installs (17%). Same pattern.
2. Competitors (doing the same thing)
2026 is a crowded lane: "camera-counted push-ups + gamification / 1v1 duels." Our appstore data shows hundreds of new push-up apps from the last 2026 years, and at least a dozen of them do direct 1v1 battles:
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from RepChamp |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pushup Legends: Duel Arena(AZ Screen Recorder / risenapps.com) | Android | 2026-09-29 | 39,850 installs, +7 in 25,651 days (faster than RepChamp), but only 306 ratings | Almost the same gameplay (live 1v1, camera only counts the standard form), backed by a screen-recording company with 120M installs and an ad-buying budget |
| Pushup RPG: Fitness Quest | Android/iOS | iOS 2026-06-25 / Play 07-31 | 171,509 installs, +11,057 in 7 days | Single-player RPG where you fight bosses, no real opponents |
| Push Up Time: AI App Blocker(Firehawk) | Android | 2025-11 | 530,852 installs | "Do push-ups to unlock your phone," aimed at people trying to quit their phone |
| Rise New Hero: RPG Fitness | Android | 2026-03 | 197k installs, on the br Top Grossing chart | RPG progression; rating-to-install ratio is also 20%, same playbook |
| Push Up Boss: Multiplayer Game(Ipirio) | Android | 2026-06-05 | 64,676 installs, barely growing lately | Added multiplayer before RepChamp, never took off |
| Shaply: Push-ups & 1v1 Duels | Android/iOS | 2026-08 | 72,699 installs, +10,654 in 7 days | Also 1v1, now on 20 iOS stores |
| Push Up Arena - Fitness Game(Airix) | iOS | 2026-05-14 | 118 ratings / 11 stores | One of the most-rated iOS apps in the category, also 1v1 |
| Reppy 1v1 / RepStrike / PushArena / PushWar / PushUp Rivals / Push Up PvP / RepWar / PumpDuel / Repborne | iOS (some also on Android) | 2026-04 to 2026-10 | Each has only single digits to a few dozen ratings | Same idea, none of them gained traction |
| MAXOUT (France, the TikTok version of WinPushUp) | iOS | 2026 | Small | Uses TikTok duel videos to drive traffic too |
| Old-school counters: Push Ups Trainer (Zen Labs), Idle Push Up, and others | iOS/Android | 2013–2023 | A few thousand ratings | Only counts reps and gives training plans, no social battles |
Takeaway: RepChamp wasn't first and isn't the biggest. It's among the leaders in the "1v1 live duels" niche, but the lead is thin.
3. Where users came from (growth tactics)
- Official TikTok account @repchampapp (confirmed): 9,446 followers, 477k likes, 133 videos (TikHub, 11-06). It posts one type of content: split-screen recordings of 1v1 battles from the app, with captions like "First time losing 😭," "Easy win ngl," and "How is he so strong 💀," and fixed hashtags #pushups #duel #pushupchallenge. The 3 pinned videos were posted between 2026-07-17 and 07-20, which is day 1–4 after the iOS launch, and got 2.98M, 2.35M and 1.46M views (about 6.8M total). August had 29 videos, about 1.5M views total; September had 23, about 230k; October had 8, about 160k. Clearly fading. The profile bio only says "Search 'RepChamp' on the App Store," so TikTok is mainly driving iOS traffic. The Instagram account @repchamp.app mirrors the content as Reels (that one 10-20 only has 1 likes).
- Abnormal Play rating count (strongly suspected, unverified): the rating-to-install ratio is 20.2%, while comparable Pushup RPG is 1.4%, Push Up Time 1.2%, Pushup Legends 0.8%, Shaply 0.2%. The apppage.net snapshot of the Play v1.0.0 page (8-28, the day after launch) shows "214 ratings, Downloads 10+", meaning over two hundred ratings with under a hundred installs. GlowUp Daily, same developer, is also at 12–17%. Possible explanations: bought ratings, or a rating prompt forced or rewarded right after a duel. A high rating count and a rating above 4.5 both lift store search and category-chart conversion, which may be one reason Play keeps adding thousands of installs a day.
- Paid acquisition (can't confirm): RepChamp and GR9 Studio don't appear in our Meta, TikTok or Google ad libraries. It isn't on our tracking list, so the absence doesn't mean they didn't spend. Play installs cluster in low-cost markets like it/tr/pl/th/my/ph/vn. The install spike at 10-31 while the category rank was falling fits an off-store traffic pattern (ads or another channel), but there's no direct evidence.
- Store search / recommendations: On the iOS page, "You Might Also Like" groups it with Push Up Duel, Push Up Arena and Pushup RPG. AppInsider recorded it entering the Italian iOS chart via "found via search" (10-23). On Play, organic traffic for the term "repchamp tiktok push-up duel" lands on the Pushup Legends page, so someone is riding the name.
- Reddit / X / press: x-radar found no RepChamp mentions in the last 120 days. A few Reddit "I built …" posts from indie developers exist, but I can't confirm they're this app. No press coverage found.
4. Why it took off
- Content that suits short video: two people racing push-ups, with a winner and a twist ("Don't judge a book by its cover"). It's clear within 3 seconds, and viewers think "I could win that." The app itself is a content machine, so recordings can go straight to posting. July's viral videos gave iOS its first wave of cold-start users.
- Play rating operations: 9 thousand ratings make it stand out among rivals with a few dozen each, giving it a conversion edge in the store. This is the most likely reason (speculation) its Play installs grew to many times iOS's.
- Timing: In 2026, "do push-ups to unlock your phone" and "fitness RPG" were trending on TikTok, comparable apps launched in batches, and users were already primed.
- Monetization: Has subscriptions and in-app purchases but never charted in Top Grossing, so revenue is likely small. No public revenue data.
5. Differentiation
The product's features: the camera counts reps on-device (MediaPipe, no video upload), live real-person 1v1 with random matchmaking, AI sparring, leaderboards and win streaks. Compared with counters, App Blockers and RPGs, real-person battles are its selling point. But at least a dozen apps have done 2026v1 push-up battles for 1 years, and the later Pushup Legends has nearly identical copy, so this isn't a moat. It has gone further than most rivals because of distribution (a TikTok recording account plus Play rating operations), not because of the feature set itself.
6. Copycats and imitators
- Pushup Legends: Duel Arena (AZ Screen Recorder, listed 2026-09-29): nearly identical gameplay and copy, and its new installs over the last 7 days already exceed RepChamp's. It's still riding the "repchamp" search term.
- Fitness Duel: RepChamp (gg.repchamp.app, developer M/S PEACH TRADERS, on Play since 2026-10, per AppBrain): uses the exact same name, a clear case of name piggybacking.
- GitHub arafat1971/repchamp (repo created 2026-07-27, Expo/RN, MoveNet, adds a "couples mode," 19 issues). A Facebook account al.q.arafat also posts promo using the RepChamp name. Likely the same people as PEACH TRADERS above (speculation).
- No media or major accounts have written about it, and revenue isn't public.
7. What others can learn
- The product generates battle recordings you can post directly. Use one official account to publish first-person "lost / won" short videos in bulk, no creators needed.
- 1v1 wins and losses, plus the emotion of "they're better than me," spread better than solo counting.
- Thickening the Play rating base can noticeably widen the conversion gap in a commoditized category (watch Google policy risk).
- One person running several "self-improvement" apps at once (GlowUp Daily, RepChamp), with sites hosted on Vercel. The playbook is reusable.
8. Uncertain
- Whether Play ratings were bought or earned through normal prompting: unverified. Only the abnormal ratio and apppage snapshots support it.
- Whether they ran paid ads: not tracked in our data, can't confirm.
- Real iOS downloads: third-party estimates range from 1k+ to 25k+.
- Retention and revenue: no Top Grossing signal, likely small.
- Whether the Reddit "I built …" posts come from the same developer.
