A backwards-singing trend ran for a year, and a Vietnamese utility built 4.48M installs by making the search term its name
What it is A recording-reversal utility made by a Vietnamese studio, used for the backwards-singing challenge on TikTok, earning from ads and in-app purchases to remove ads.
Why it took off The TikTok reversal challenge has been hot for over a year. Creators just say "search reverse audio", and that's its name. In late October the trend heated up again in Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia and elsewhere, and it climbed to 20–30K installs a day.
CHow you can ride it Skip the reverse-video clones and copy the playbook: when the next "search for this one feature" meme hits, ship a single-feature app named after the exact search phrase within a week or two, monetize with ads, and let the multilingual store copy follow the meme.

Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge is an Android utility that plays recordings in reverse, made by the Vietnamese studio Mandala. At the end of October it was adding 20–30K installs a day, so it looks like a newly emerging app, but it has actually been on the store for a year, and there are more than twenty similar apps. It gets its volume not from the product but because its name is exactly the phrase people on TikTok keep telling each other.
A couple, a song played backwards
In Aug 2025 22, the US TikTok account @neeniesteenie posted a video just over three minutes long, titled "No Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't sing but he's at the end". The game is simple: someone records a line of a song backwards, another person learns to sing it backwards, and then they play their backwards singing in reverse to see if it matches the original. That video later reached 26.2M views, and the second one, from Sep 3, reached 34.4M (TikTok, 11-06).
The reverse singing challenge blew up. To play it you need an app that can reverse audio, and the videos rarely name one. They just say "search reverse audio." A year later people are still saying it. A Brazilian couple's gaming channel, Canal Angil, posted a reversed-audio video almost every day from October 15 to early November, all with the same caption, "O nome do app é reverse audio" (the app's name is reverse audio). The October 18 video got 647k views.
The Vietnamese studio's app is called "Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge."
What it is
What it does is what the store page lists: record a clip, reverse it with one tap, adjust speed and pitch, then save it or share it with friends to take the challenge. No song library, no levels, no AI. The developer, MANDALA CONSULTING CO.,LTD, is a Vietnamese company. The same account also publishes a desktop pet, icon themes, pattern lock screens, a star map, a GBA emulator, and sticker makers: classic "utility + ads" apps.
Revenue comes from two places: ads, plus in-app purchases added in April 2026, at $6.99–$28.99. The store has 400 reviews. The three most-upvoted ones all say the same thing:
"Ads are insane, one or two on every screen, and a video or game ad between every step." "Too many ads, but I still kinda like it." "All ads. You can't do anything without watching a pile of them." (Google Play US store, 11-06)
It isn't new
The store lists the first release date as 2026-10-09, but this date was reset. The earliest version on APKPure, 1.0.2, was released on 2025-10-12, and third-party trackers log the listing date as 2025-10-06. By May 2026, cumulative installs were about 3.37M (AppstoreSpy estimate), with natural daily installs of 3,000 to 7,000 over those months. Roughly three-quarters of today's 4.48M came from before May. The same developer's desktop pet app also had its first release date reset in October. Why the dates were changed (account transfer, listing edit, or store expansion) is unverified.
The real change came in late October:
| Period | Daily new installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-05 to 09 | About 3–7 thousand | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 10-21, 10-22 | About 37k | Same as above |
| 10-23 to 11-06 | About 1.2–24k | Same as above + Google Play installs |
| Total over the last 7 days | +127k | Google Play installs, 11-06 |
In November 6 it entered the Entertainment Top Free chart in 9 countries: #55 in Turkey, #80 in Indonesia, and between #100 and #200 in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, France, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, and Sweden. It has never charted in Top Grossing.
It's hard to tell from outside who drove that surge. Two things line up in time: the Brazilian couple's channel, with 647k views on October 18; and from October 16 to 26, a cluster of TikTok accounts with Vietnamese region tags ("ReverseSingingforfun", "AI Reverse Audio") posting promo videos for the reverse challenge, captioned "One-tap reverse, singing challenge goes viral." These accounts never name the app, so they can't be attributed to Mandala. The developer also pushed two versions that month, which may have earned some extra store exposure (inference).
Why people install it
Several things stack up:
- The name is the search term. The videos say "search reverse audio." Search that on Play and an app with the same title lands near the top. On iOS there's a same-named app from another Vietnamese team with 32k reviews. That reputation was built over there, and the Android listing rides on it.
- The meme never died. From August 2025 until now, new people have posted every month. In October there were new challenge videos from the US, Italy, Finland, and Brazil, and the Italian one has 95k views.
- Others pay for traffic, and it picks up the spillover. Plenty of creator videos on TikTok are tagged as ads, with captions like "search reverse singing on the App Store." They point to iOS equivalents, and there's no evidence Mandala ran them.
- High volume, low quality. 4.48M installs produced only 428 ratings, about one in ten thousand; the top of the category runs at one in a hundred. Most people who install it delete it quickly. That ratio looks like traffic from ad networks or Google's app promotion. Whether it buys its own ads isn't visible in the ad libraries, unverified.
Who it's competing with
The feature is a single audio-processing function, and dozens of clones appeared within a year. On Google Play, more than 20 apps have reverse audio or reverse singing in the title, as of 11-06:
| Product | Total installs | past 7 days | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse Song & Voice Challenge(AI Tech Expe) | 12.3M | +830k | Top of the pack: charted in 29 countries, 120k ratings |
| Reverse Audio: Reverse Singing (the AZ Screen Recorder developer) | 6.46M | +470k | Big developer driving traffic from its own apps |
| Reverse Voice: Flip Singing(NindaFuit) | 4.61M | +400k | Website uses the same template as Mandala, like one account matrix (inference) |
| Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge (this article) | 4.48M | +130k | About a third the scale of the leader, growing about one-seventh as fast |
| Funny Voice Reverse, Daimond Devs, Vida Apps, Master Apps Lab, and others | 270–4.15M | +3–180k | Some tools existed before the meme |
| reversesinging.com and other web versions | — | — | No download needed; they compete for the same searches through SEO |
In this category it ranks fourth or fifth, a mid-tier volume play.
What's actually worth learning here
It isn't the reverse app. It's a playbook:
- On TikTok there's a pattern where creators tell viewers to "search this feature word" without naming the app. Whoever's name is that word gets the store search traffic.
- The meme outlived its peak and left a long tail. A year later it still gets several thousand organic installs a day, enough to support ad monetization.
- The cost is low enough to run in bulk: one feature, one studio website template, several developer accounts launched at once. Mandala and NindaFuit appear to work this way (inference).
If it were you
Verdict: The reverse-audio category is already taken: a leader at 12M installs and more than twenty clones. Launch now and you'll rank around #25. What you can take is the method: when the next "search this word" meme appears, race for the first week.
Who it suits: One or two people who can build and publish a single-feature Android app within three days, who already have ad monetization and multi-account experience, and who watch TikTok trends daily and react fast to new memes.
Who it doesn't suit: People who want a retained, branded product; people who only want iOS subscription revenue (these users come to play once); and people who can't handle bad reviews about "too many ads."
How to do it: Watch TikTok for challenge videos with tens of millions of views where commenters ask "what app is that?" Use the creator's exact wording as the app name (one English word, then localized store titles for the countries the meme spreads to: Portuguese, Turkish, Indonesian). Build only that one action, one tap, zero learning curve. Monetize with ads, plus a one-time purchase to remove them.
How to get users: Store search is the main channel: put the keyword in the title, the description, and the first screenshot. Run one or two TikTok accounts too, filming challenge videos with your app and saying outright "the app is called xxx." When the meme spreads to a new country (Brazil, Turkey, and Indonesia this time), do another round of store copy and videos in the local language.
When to move: One to two weeks after the meme appears. This reverse challenge peaked in August 22, and in September a wave of similar apps launched. The leader, AI Tech Expe, didn't launch until November and still reached #1, so don't wait more than three months, and buy more volume than the others.
Signs I've misread it: ① The next word-category meme comes out, and apps launched in week one hit fewer than 100k installs within a month. That means store search is already saturated by big accounts running paid acquisition, and this path is closed. ② The last 7 days of daily growth for the head of the reverse-play category drop to under half their level before December. That means the long tail is shorter than I thought, and "a dying meme can still feed you for a year" doesn't hold. ③ Google Play starts delisting or demoting batches of same-name, same-template spam apps. Then the multi-account route is closed.

Bottom line
This is a small Vietnamese tool app that rode the August 2025 TikTok "reverse singing challenge" (reverse singing challenge). It isn't a new product: it went live 2025-10, and the "2026-10-09 launch" date on the store has been reset. It has no differentiation. It works because its name matches the search term users type, "Reverse Audio", the meme hasn't died in a year, and Vietnamese studios routinely spread across multiple accounts. Its daily installs rose from about 5–7 thousand in late October to 1.3–37k, driven by the meme heating up again in Turkey, Indonesia, France, Germany, Mexico and elsewhere. In its category it ranks in the fourth or fifth tier, far from the top.
1. What the data card needs to correct first
来源:apkpure.com/…/versions,appstorespy.com 页面。
- Our
app_day_ext(AppstoreSpy estimate) shows 2026-05-19 cumulative installs already at 3.37M, with roughly 5–3k per day from May through September. So about 7% of the 4.48M was accumulated before 75. The store launch date of 2026-10-09 is a reset (a metadata change or market expansion, possibly an account transfer; the same developer's Pets On Screen also had its launch date reset on 2026-10-12, when it already had 1.25M installs in May). - The store shows the install tier as "1M+", and the maxInstalls field on the detail page is 4,478,620 (googleplay library app_snap, 2026-11-06).
2. Growth data
| Period | Daily installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-05 to 09 | About 3–7k/day (occasionally spiking to 1–15k) | googleplay.app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimates) |
| 2026-10-21/22 | About 37k/day | Same as above |
| 2026-10-23 to 11-06 | About 1.2–24k/day | Same as above + app_day |
| past 7 days | +126,775 | app_profile.installs_gain_7d |
| past 30 days | +357k, 169% more than the prior 30 days | appdashboard.app |
- Chart presence: only on the Entertainment category Top Free chart. On 2026-11-06 it charted in 9 stores: Turkey 55, Indonesia 80, Malaysia 102, Saudi Arabia 112, France 118, Mexico 127, Argentina 135, Germany 145, Sweden 200; on 10-29 it was in only 4 stores. It has never charted on Top Grossing (googleplay.chart_rank).
- Ratings: 428 total, averaging 3.93, distributed as [1★103, 2★14, 3★0, 4★0, 5★309]. It has no 3-star and no 4-star ratings at all, so the positive reviews likely came from in-app prompts. Ratings divided by installs is only 0.01%; the top peer AI Tech Expe is 1% (121k / 12.3M), and AZ Screen Recorder is 0.46%. Most of its installs are fast-arriving, fast-leaving low-intent traffic.
- Monetization: contains ads, with in-app purchases at $6.99–$28.99 (added 2026-04-14, see the Metadata change in appdashboard). The privacy policy lists AdMob and Firebase, so ad revenue from AdMob is the main income.
3. Competitors (same thing: audio reversal + the reverse singing challenge)
The category is extremely crowded. In the googleplay library, more than 20 apps have reverse audio / reverse singing in their titles, as of 2026-11-06:
| Product | Channel | Launched | Total installs | past 7 days | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse Song & Voice Challenge(AI Tech Expe,com.reverse.audio.singchallenge) | Android | 2025-11 | 12.3M | +832k | The category leader, charted in 29 stores, with 120k ratings. It has one-third of the leader's installs and one-seventh of the leader's growth rate. |
| Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge (Var Meta Technology JSC, Vietnam, id6754755473, bundle com.reverse.audio.singchallenge) | iOS | 2025-10-31 | 32k ratings | — | It shares the same name and the same bundle id prefix as AI Tech Expe. Both are Vietnamese. It may have borrowed the name, and whether they are the same team is unverified. |
| Reverse Audio: Reverse Singing(AZ Screen Recorder / risenapps) | Android | 2025-09 | 6.46M | +475k | A traffic-matrix product from the large developer behind AZ Screen Recorder, charted in 25 stores |
| Reverse Voice: Flip Singing(NindaFuit,nindafuit.pro.vn) | Android | 2026-05 (store date) | 4.61M | +404k | The official site and Mandala's official site use the same template (the service description text is identical, both on .pro.vn). It has only 1208 ratings, and the low-intent traffic pattern is the same. It looks like one account matrix. |
| Funny Voice Reverse(BigSoft) | Android | 2025-10 | 4.15M | +30k | Same category |
| Reverse Singing: Reverse Audio(Daimond Devs) | Android | 2025-08 | 4.02M | +176k | Caught the earliest wave |
| Reverse Audio: Voice & Singing (Vida Apps, Japan) | Android | 2024-11 | 3.87M | +37k | Existed before the meme took off; an established reversal tool |
| Reverse Audio: Reverse Play(Master Apps Lab) | Android | 2025-11 | 2.72M | +70k | Same category |
| Backtalk(Rieus Games) | Android | 2025-09 | 540k | +36k | Built the feature into a game |
| Reverse Audio: SingBack, Reverse Audio Singing Trend, etc. | iOS | 2025-09 | One hundred to over a thousand ratings | — | iOS followers |
| reversesinging.com, reverseplay.org, freebeat.ai/tools/reverse-audio, oidua.netlify.app | Web | 2025– | — | — | No download needed; reverses audio in the browser, targeting the "reverse singing" term with SEO |
| Reverse Movie FX(Bizo Mobile) | Android | 2014 | 79.2M | — | An older video-reversal product |
Conclusion: anyone can build this feature. Reversing audio is a line of audio-processing code, and dozens of clones appeared within a year. This app is not near the top.
4. Where users came from (growth tactics)
- Platform meme + store search (confirmed). The reverse singing challenge went viral on TikTok in 2025-08: @neeniesteenie posted two videos with 26.2M and 33.9M views (2025-08-22, 09-03). Content kept coming through 2026: for example, Portuguese creators on 2026-10-27 and 11-04 say "O nome do app é reverse audio", and people still post challenge videos on 2026-10-28 (TikHub search). Creators just tell viewers to "search reverse audio / reverse singing" without naming a specific app. This app is called "Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge", which lines up with the generic search term and picks up long-tail traffic on Play search.
- Other apps buy TikTok ads, and this one benefits (confirmed that someone is buying, but not this app). Many videos from the TikHub search have is_ads=1, with captions like "look for: reverse singing on the App Store" (2026-05 to 07), which are Spark Ads or creator promotions pointing to iOS. Accounts like reverse_singing.app and reverse.audio.app appear to be run by similar apps themselves, and one of them has a video with 2026-08-16 and 4.93M views. There is no evidence that Mandala itself is buying.
- A Vietnamese studio's multi-account matrix (likely). The Mandala and NindaFuit sites use the same template, both target this category, and both have extremely low rating-to-install ratios. The same developer also runs Pets On Screen, ThemeHub, Pattern Lock, Night Sky View and other typical "utility + ads" spam apps (appbrain lists 14 apps).
- Paid acquisition (unverified). The metaads, googleads and tiktokads libraries do not track this app or developer, but absence there doesn't mean no spend. The rating ratio of 0.01% looks like low-intent installs from Google UAC or an ad network, but there is no direct evidence.
- The late-October surge (cause unverified). Timing matches the meme reheating in Turkey, Indonesia and Latin America, and the app pushed two versions, 1.1.7 and 1.1.8, in October, which may have helped it regain store exposure.
5. Why it took off
- Long-tail demand from a platform meme: the TikTok trend has run for over a year, and people keep searching "reverse audio" on the store.
- The name is the search term: the app is literally called "Reverse Audio: Sing Challenge", so it captures search traffic for the generic term on Play. The name also collides with a same-named iOS app with 30k ratings.
- Very low cost, ad-based monetization: the feature is simple, and an AdMob ads + remove-ads IAP model pays back a clone quickly, so Vietnamese studios run several accounts at once.
- Most of its volume was accumulated slowly over the year rather than built in one month. The acceleration in the last month came from the meme reheating.
6. Differentiation
No. Its features (recording, reversal, speed and pitch change, sharing) are identical to dozens of similar apps, and the name is the common term for the category. It gets traffic from keywords and channels, not the product itself. Its growth rate is only about one-seventh of the leader AI Tech Expe, showing that in a category without differentiation it is just a mid-tier spam account.
7. How many people know about it
X (x-radar, last 30 days) shows no discussion, no media coverage, and no public revenue. The category itself is already packed (20+ similar apps, with leaders past tens of millions of installs), so even though "nobody knows it", it is not worth entering.
8. What others can borrow
- Watch for TikTok memes where creators only tell people to search a feature term without naming an app. Move fast: list an app using the exact feature term as its name, and capture store search.
- There is long-tail demand after a meme fades. A year later it can still get thousands to tens of thousands of organic installs a day, which suits a low-cost AdMob + remove-ads IAP model and multi-account spamming.
- Wrap one feature in a studio's official-site template and mass-create developer accounts.
9. Still unclear
- Whether the 2026-10-09 launch date reset came from an account transfer or just a metadata change is unverified.
- Whether it runs paid acquisition is unverified; none of the three ad libraries track it.
- What caused the late-October surge is unverified.
- Whether Mandala, NindaFuit, Var Meta and AI Tech Expe are the same team is unverified; we only have indirect evidence such as identical site templates and similar names and bundle ids.
- Revenue is unknown; it has never charted on Top Grossing.
