# A girl with 737 followers shared her profile, seen by 600k people: sharespot turned 'logging movie lists' into a decoratable room

**What it is** A social app for logging movies, shows, books, music and games you've consumed, then arranging them on a personal profile page you can decorate freely. No likes or follower counts, completely free.

**Why it took off** On TikTok, small accounts in the girlblogger scene spontaneously posted 'my sharespot profile'. A few clips hit hundreds of thousands of views, and people copied the template. The profiles look good, are customizable, and can import old platform records in one click, matching the Pinterest + 2000s Tumblr aesthetic wave.

**B** **How you could follow it** Stop building another 'log anything' app. Copy its playbook: switch to a bookshelf it doesn't cover (perfumes, outfits, places visited) or another language, make it a public, decoratable, shareable profile, drive volume through small-account screen recordings, and sell decorations rather than subscriptions.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and copyable, but the circle is still small and there's no media coverage. No one has yet proven this kind of product makes money; the growth rode one TikTok aesthetic wave, so timing and luck weigh heavily. Spreading in small circles

sharespot is a free app built solo by an indie developer in California: separate shelves for movies, shows, music, games and books, plus photo posting and short thoughts. Profile colors, wallpaper, fonts and theme songs are all editable, with no like counts or follower counts. From mid-October, a batch of girls with a few hundred followers spontaneously posted 'my sharespot profile' on TikTok, and several clips each got hundreds of thousands of views. Google Play installs went from 44k to 74k in a week, and it climbed into the top 20 of social free charts in several European countries. It charges nothing. The idea isn't new; what's worth copying isn't the app itself but its playbook.

### A video with 600k views

Oct 29, TikTok user @moonlightelie posted a video captioned only 'sharespot u have my heart 🧸', tagged #girlblogging #niche. She had 737 followers; by Nov 6 the post had 605k views and 99k likes.

Two days later, @fairysar, with 387 followers, posted "im in love" tagged #pinterest #mediatok #profileinspo, 4K views. Nov 331 @.emiixs, with 1,259 followers, posted one that says outright "i got the video inspo from a girl guys!"—the video idea was copied from another girl—223K views.

These videos look alike: a screen recording slowly scrolling through the creator's own profile, showing colors, wallpaper, and a wall of covers on the shelves. None argues 'this tool's logging features are great'; they all show what the profile looks like.

The Google Play numbers follow these three posts: starting 10-31, the UK social free chart rose from #116 to #51 and France from #200 to #51; from 11-03 to 11-05 its best rankings were #9 in Poland, #12 in the UK, #14 in Sweden, #16 in Italy and #17 in Spain.

### What it is

The store page's first line reads 'sharespot is a profile made of what you love'. Opening the app, you get five shelves: movies, shows, music, games, books, where you can rate to one decimal, write short reviews, and tag 'watching / listening / playing', plus a watchlist and a diary calendar. Then comes decoration: your colors, your wallpaper, your fonts, and a 'theme song' others can play with one tap. You can also post photos, videos and thoughts, and there are group-chat-style 'rooms'.

Two design choices set it apart from its peers:

- **No like counts or follower counts.** A US App Store review (10-18) is titled 'fun without the pressure of numbers': 'no followers or likes, so no pressure to chase stats, you don't even have to post.'

- **Imports history from a dozen-plus platforms:** Letterboxd, Serializd, IMDb, MyAnimeList, Goodreads, StoryGraph, Spotify, Apple Music, Last.fm, Steam and more. New users arrive to full shelves, the profile looks good within the first minute, and they can film a video the same day.

The website FAQ is clear: free to download, free to use, no in-app purchases, no ads. Developer Romeo Hazel is based in San Diego, California, and builds it alone.

### How users describe it

US App Store reviews from mid-October to early November describe it in strikingly similar terms:

> 'Like Tumblr, Pinterest and MySpace had a baby.' (10-21)

> 'Like Pinterest and Letterboxd had a baby, and this baby is rich, beautiful and a total genius.' (10-17)

> 'I downloaded it because of a TikTok… I love my profile so much, you can change everything, other apps can't do that.' (10-16)

> 'You can decorate your profile without a subscription!!' (10-19)

> 'This feels like I got premium.' (10-23)

So users treat it as a dress-up homepage plus a taste-flexing social app, not a logging tool. The core users are young women who love collage and the 2000s Tumblr aesthetic, not Letterboxd-style film buffs. The TikTok hashtags back this up: #girlblogger, #pinterest, #2000s, #moodboard. One Oct 9 video with 195k views said "pinterest + spotify + tiktok = actual happiness."

### Where users come from

**Almost all of it is small accounts on TikTok spontaneously recommending it.** The top-performing posts:

| Date | Account (followers) | Views | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-12 | @hadesvoids(7,015) | 455k | it so fun 🥹!! #letterboxd #digitaldiary |
| 10-19 | @nix1e32(1,230) | 477k | sharespot you have my soul… this is basically a free advertisement |
| 10-29 | @moonlightelie(737) | 605k | sharespot u have my heart 🧸 |
| 10-31 | @fairysar4hh(387) | 331k | im in love #profileinspo |
| 11-01 | @.emiixs(259) | 223k | i got the video inspo from a girl guys! |

TikTok views and follower counts, 11-06.

Accounts with a few hundred to a thousand-plus followers got hundreds of thousands of views, and later creators copied the earlier templates. Portuguese, Spanish and Russian videos appeared from November, matching the growth in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and European charts. The official account @getsharespot has only 1,297 followers, its top video 27.6k views ('pinterest and letterboxd had a baby'); the founder's account has 508 followers. Official content isn't the driver. Some videos carry #notsponsored; no paid creators or ad buys were found in public channels (unverified).

**The product also has a built-in way to pull people in.** Every profile is a public web page (sharespotapp.com/username) that works without signing up. The "sync" link compares two people's shelves for overlap, and it can be sent to friends who haven't signed up yet. TikTok comments are full of "mutuals, download fast, I'll follow you over there," so people are using it to rebuild their mutuals on a new platform. That itself is a way of recruiting users.

There's also a small side effect: the official site has put up several free comparison landing pages, "free Letterboxd alternative" and "Instagram alternative without likes." They rank in search, but their reach is much smaller than TikTok's (inferred).

### How big it is now

| Date | Google Play cumulative installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 43,600 | 625 |
| 11-01 | 50,115 | 710 |
| 11-03 | 57,314 | 834 |
| 11-05 | 74,047 | 1,102 |
| 11-06 | 74,047 | 1,186 |

Google Play public data.

In a little over a week it reached 30k installs. That's 40% of Letterboxd's Android gains over the same period (about 80k) and 8,400 times the installs of Serializd, the TV-tracking app (about 3.6). The iOS version launched in May. Its US App Store rating went from 612 (10-28) to 738 (11-06), a 4.79-point gain, rising more slowly than on Android. Its US chart rankings have also trailed Europe's: its best Play US social free chart position is only #96. One possible reason is US state age-verification laws. A user posted this notice in a review: "sharespot isn't available for people under 18 in your state yet" (10-22). Its core users are teenagers, so the restriction may matter (inferred).

The community is on Discord: 2,060 members, 11-06 online 162. The founder replies to reviews and collects feature requests on Discord. The iOS app has been updated to 1.7.1 (11-02). More than one review specifically says "Romeo has been listening to us."

The 11-06 chart has already cooled from its peak: #13 in Poland, #23 in the UK, #138 in the US.

### Who it's competing with

"One app for all media" is not a new idea. People on Reddit were asking for "Letterboxd for everything" 2021 years ago.

| Product | Scale | How it differs from sharespot |
|---|---|---|
| Letterboxd | 30M users; 12M Android installs | Movies only, film-fan culture; being put up for sale 2026 years ago |
| Goodreads | 32.6M Android installs | Books only, owned by Amazon, dated interface |
| Serializd | Android 676k installs | TV shows only |
| StoryGraph | 1.89M Android installs | Books only, stats-focused |
| Listy | Not verified | Also multi-media, but built around private lists, with no social features or customization |
| passport: everything i love | The official site claims 129k users; iOS US rating 72, Android 678 installs | Nearly the same positioning ("one page showing the games, movies, books, and music you love"). iOS launched in September, Android 10-28. Weak on customization and social features |
| Pinterest / Tumblr / SpaceHey | Big company, long-established | The prototype for aesthetic collage and customizable profiles, but it doesn't track media |

Vertical giants each hold their own niche. Listy and passport, which also do multi-media in one app, are far smaller. sharespot wins on the combination of "customization + social + no likes," which happens to hit the TikTok girlblogger aesthetic and the revival of Tumblr-era styles 2000 years on. Letterboxd being put up for sale, with film fans worried a buyer would ruin it, is the backdrop at the same time. But sharespot's audience overlaps little with the film-fan crowd, and I found no direct evidence of film fans defecting to it.

### Its weak spots

- **It makes no money, and one person is carrying it.** There are no in-app purchases and no ads, so the more users it gains, the more expensive servers and content moderation become. The official site has been repeatedly failing to load in recent days (Vercel returned 429). It hasn't decided how to monetize.

- **Founder controversy.** Around Oct 20, several one-star App Store reviews appeared accusing the founder of inappropriate chats with underage girls, and the topic also circulated on TikTok. None of this has been verified, and growth has not stopped since 10-20. But its users are mostly underage girls, which makes this its biggest reputational and platform risk.

- **TikTok hits have short life cycles.** The chart has already cooled. How many users it keeps will take a few more weeks to show.

### If it were you

**B** . Worth a try: the opportunity is there, but the weaknesses are clear. No one has yet shown this kind of product can make money, and the growth came from a single TikTok aesthetic wave, so whether you catch the next one is partly luck. What's worth following is not building another "Letterboxd for everything" but its approach: turning a tracking tool into a customizable personal profile people want to show off, so every use gives them something to film for TikTok.

**Who it suits** : people aged 1–2 who understand Gen Z girls' aesthetic (color palettes, fonts, stickers, the 2000-era Tumblr look) and can make "looks good" the core of a product. Ideally someone who already scrolls the TikTok girlblogger / mediatok circles.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who wants to head-on build another multi-media tracking app (sharespot is already the biggest new face in this wave, and passport is also chasing it); anyone who needs it to support them within a year or two (willingness to pay for this kind of product hasn't been proven); anyone unable to handle content moderation and age compliance for teenage users.

**How to build it** : pick a shelf sharespot doesn't cover but that reviewers are asking for, and build it as a customizable profile too. Users are already asking for perfumes, clothes, and places they've been (App Store reviews 10-15, 10-20), plus favorite characters and creators (10-24). Copy the three things that work best: one-click import from older platforms so the profile is full in the first minute; each profile is a public web page, plus a comparison link you can send to friends; no like or follower counts, with that line as your slogan. Another path is changing language and region: its videos in Brazil and Poland were re-made by users themselves, and no one has built a localized version in those languages (inferred). Plan monetization from day one. The smoothest route is selling customization (themes, fonts, stickers), not subscriptions. Users praise it precisely for letting them customize without paying a subscription.

**How to get users** : skip paid acquisition and rely on TikTok screen recordings. Put a "one-click screen record / export profile as a long image" button in the product. At launch, find 20–30 girlblogger or niche accounts with a few hundred followers, send them a nice preset theme, and ask them to post their profiles. Once users make their own templates, others copy them.

**When to go before the wave ends** : this aesthetic wave is hot right now, and similar products like passport are also emerging. If you want to ride it, launch before year-end. Winter break and New Year are when teens scroll TikTok and switch apps most.

**Signs you've misread this** : ① sharespot's weekly Google Play installs fall to a few thousand a month after launch, and it drops out of the top 100 in the European charts. That means it's a fad, and a profile-decoration page can't hold people. ② After sharespot launches paid decorations, users clearly push back, or it never makes money at all. That means this crowd has very low willingness to pay, so following it won't earn anything. ③ The reverse: passport or other similar apps start getting organic shares from small accounts and climb the charts. That means "customizable taste profile" is a real category, not just sharespot's luck, and you should move faster.

## Why sharespot (com.romeohazel.sharespot) took off

> Research date 2026-11-06. Data from our googleplay / appstore databases (as of 11-06), TikTok scraped via TikHub, Jina search and web page text, Apple public APIs, and the Discord invite API.

### One line

A free "record anything" social journal built by one person (Romeo Hazel, San Diego, California). It has shelves for movies, TV, music, games, and books, plus photo posts and short status lines, and you can customize avatar, colors, wallpaper, font, and theme song. **It has no like counts and no follower counts.** From mid-October, small accounts in TikTok's "girlblogger / mediatok / niche" circles started recommending it organically. Several accounts with a few hundred followers got hundreds of thousands of views, and its store rankings rose with them. It took off because of **organic spread inside content circles** , and what spread was **"the profile looks great and you can customize it,"** not "the tracking tool is useful."

### 1. Data: how big it is and how fast it's growing

- **Google Play** : cumulative installs 43,600 (10-29) → 74,047 (11-05), +30,447 over 7 days; rating 625 → 1,186 (googleplay library app_day). Release date listed as 2026-07-10 (Play release dates may have been reset).

- +30k over 7 days, which is 38% of Letterboxd's Android gains over the same period (+79,770) and 3.6 times Serializd's (+8,434) (googleplay library app_profile, 11-06).

- **Play social free chart** : 10-29 still ranks #105–187 across countries. 10-31 jumped suddenly (UK 116→51, France 200→51, Poland 164→65). 11-02 the US charted for the first time at 158. 11-03–11-05 best positions: Poland #9, UK #12, Sweden #14, Italy #16, Spain #17; US best #96 (googleplay library chart_rank). 11-06 it has slipped somewhat (Poland 13, UK 23).

- **iOS** (id 6760799374,2026-05-17 listed, v1.7.1,4.79 rating): US store 612 (10-28) → 738 (11-06) rating, +112 over 7 days; UK 42 → 95. It has charted in the social free chart in about 90 countries, best US 88 and UK 27 (appstore library). **Android growth is clearly much stronger than iOS** , and its chart positions in Europe (Poland, Sweden, Netherlands, UK) are better than in the US.

- **Discord** : 2,060 members, 162 online (discord invite API, 11-06).

- Monetization: the FAQ says "free to download, free to use, no in-app purchases, no ads," and it's run by one person (sharespotapp.com/faq). It currently has **no revenue** .

### 2. Competitors

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from sharespot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Letterboxd | iOS/Android/web | 2011(App 2016/2017) | 30M users (Inc. 2026-09); 12M Android installs, +7k in 79.8 days | Movies only (adding TV); focused on reviews and film-fan culture; put up for sale by Tiny 2026 years ago (valuation >$300M), with users crowdfunding to buy it |
| Goodreads | iOS/Android | 2007 | 32.6M Android installs; 760k iOS ratings | Books only, owned by Amazon, dated interface |
| Serializd | iOS/Android | 2021 | Android 676k installs, 7 days +8,434 | TV shows only |
| StoryGraph | iOS/Android | 2021 | 1.89M Android installs | Books only, stats-focused |
| Backloggd / Musicboard / MyAnimeList | Web/app | 2010s | Vertical niches each | Each covers one media type |
| Listy | iOS | Earlier than 2026 | Not verified | Also multi-media, but private-first and list-focused, with no social features or customization |
| passport: everything i love(Passport App LLC) | iOS 2026-09-12;Android 2026-10-28 | 2026-09 | Official site claims 129k users; US App Store has only 72 ratings, Android 678 installs | Nearly the same pitch ("one page to show the games/movies/books/music you love, find people with the same taste"), leaning toward a "taste ID card"; weak on social and customization; store volume far smaller than sharespot |
| Pinterest / Tumblr / SpaceHey | Big companies / long-established players | — | Pinterest iOS 5.81M ratings | It's the prototype for the "aesthetic collage" and "customizable retro profile" look, but doesn't track media; in Apple's "customers also bought," sharespot and SpaceHey appear side by side |

Verdict: **"Letterboxd for everything" isn't a new idea** (Reddit users were asking for it 2021 years ago; Listy and passport are already doing it), and each vertical has its giants. sharespot isn't the first, but it's currently the biggest new face in the store.

### 3. Where users come from: TikTok alts spreading it organically

Searching "sharespot" on TikHub returned 48 videos (a sample only). The most-viewed ones:

| Date | Account (followers) | Views | likes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-13 | @hadesvoids(7,010) | 455k | 47k | it so fun #sharespot #letterboxd #digitaldiary |
| 10-19 | @nix1e32(1,230) | 477k | 79k | sharespot you have my soul… this is basically a free advertisement |
| 10-29 | @moonlightelie(735) | 605k | 99k | sharespot u have my heart #girlblogging #niche |
| 10-31 | @fairysar4hh(386) | 329k | 46k | im in love #pinterest #mediatok #profileinspo |
| 11-01 | @.emiixs(254) | 216k | 31k | i got the video inspo from a girl guys! |
| 10-28 | @cwutiekay_(13,512) | 40k | — | literally new fav app #girlblogger #moodboard #2000s |

- Pattern: **small accounts with a few hundred to a thousand-odd followers** pulled hundreds of thousands of views with screen recordings titled "here's what my sharespot profile looks like," tagged #girlblogger #niche #mediatok #pinterest #letterboxd #2000s. Later copycats openly said "the video idea came from another girl," which makes it **template-style copying** . From November, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian videos appeared, matching chart growth in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Europe.

- The timeline lines up: after the three 600k / 330k / 220k posts from 10-29 to 11-01, the Play chart jumped 10-31 to 11-04, and installs rose by +5k to +12k per observation starting at 11-01.

- The official account @getsharespot has only 1,297 followers; its top post got 27.6k views ("pinterest and letterboxd had a baby"). The founder's account @appdevromeo has 508 followers. **Official content isn't the main driver.**

- Reviews self-report the source: "I first saw it on TikTok" (10-29 App Store reviews). On Reddit (r/Serializd, r/tvshow), people ask "is sharespot safe?"

- One video carries #notsponsored, another says "this is basically a free ad." **No evidence found of paid creators or ad buys** (our ad library only tracks products on its list, so not finding it doesn't mean it didn't happen; unverified).

- The product has built-in sharing hooks: each profile is a public web page (sharespotapp.com/<username>) viewable without logging in; the "sync" link compares two people's shelves for overlap and can be sent to people who haven't signed up; reviews are full of "mutuals download this so I can follow you there" (@1v0r1.tsu). **Demand for mutual follows is pulling people in.**

- SEO: the official site has landing pages /compare/letterboxd, /compare/goodreads, /compare/instagram (10-08 published) for "free Letterboxd alternative" and "Instagram alternative without likes." They're showing up in search results, but TikTok is still the bigger channel.

### 4. Why people stay

- Frequent review phrases: "like Tumblr + Pinterest + MySpace had a baby," "more like Pinterest aesthetics," "you can customize your profile without paying a subscription," "no follower or like counts so there's no pressure," "everyone is so nice," "one app replaces 5 apps" (recent US App Store reviews, 10-18 to 11-03).

- Import: history can be brought in from Letterboxd, Serializd, IMDb, MyAnimeList, Goodreads, StoryGraph, Spotify, Apple Music, Last.fm, and Steam. New users land with full shelves, so their profile looks good immediately and they can make a video right away.

- The founder is very active on Discord (2,060 members) and in reviews, and ships updates fast (iOS is already at update 1.7.1,11-02). Reviewers name the creator specifically, saying "responds quickly, keeps updating."

### 5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

- Compared with Letterboxd / Goodreads / Serializd: **multiple media types in one app** + **photo and thought posts** + **a customizable personal profile** + **zero likes and zero follower counts** .

- Compared with Listy / passport, which also combine media types: sharespot's edge is **customization and social** . Colors, wallpapers, fonts, theme songs, and custom shelves make a profile into a "digital room" people want to screenshot and show off. That fits the TikTok aesthetic trend of girlblogger, 2000s Tumblr nostalgia, and Pinterest moodboards.

- **This is why it took off:** TikTok videos almost all show off the profile's look rather than the tracking features. The audience is young women who like collage aesthetics, not cinephiles in the Letterboxd mold. "No like counts" gives creators an easy values story to tell and lowers the psychological barrier to posting your profile.

- Letterboxd being put up for sale 2026 years ago, with users worried a buyer would ruin it (AV Club / Yahoo 10-05), is background noise. But sharespot's spread happens in a circle that overlaps little with film fans. **No direct evidence found of Letterboxd users fleeing to sharespot** , so it's not a main cause.

### 6. How many people have seen it

- No media coverage, no discussion on X (x-radar corpus 60 days), and no public revenue (it doesn't charge anyway). It only went viral within TikTok, with scattered Reddit questions and one X alt posting about it in 10-22.

- A similar product, passport, already exists (on iOS since September, on Android since 10-28, with nearly identical copy). Whether sharespot copied it is unclear; the launch timing is close, so they look like parallel launches.

- Classification: **spreading within a small circle.**

### 7. Risks and uncertainties

- **Founder controversy:** around 10-20, several 1-star App Store reviews accused the founder (age 20) of inappropriate chats with underage girls, and TikTok has a "sharespot controversy" hashtag. None of it is verified, but growth wasn't interrupted after 10-20. The user base is young and mostly female, so this is the biggest reputational and platform risk.

- Some users report "not available in your state for under 18," showing the effect of US state age-verification laws. US teen users may be getting blocked, which could be one reason the US chart trails Europe (speculation).

- Free, maintained by one person, with server and review costs rising alongside users; the official site has hit Vercel limits multiple times 429. No clear monetization path yet.

- TikTok hit cycles are short; the 11-06 chart has already fallen from its peak, and whether it holds up remains to be seen.

### 8. Takeaways

- Turn a "tracking tool" into a customizable, shareable profile, so every use becomes a screen recording for TikTok.

- One-click import of old platform history, so a new profile looks "full" in the first minute. This lowers the barrier to posting.

- Public profile pages + taste-matching sync links + demand for mutual follows create a loop that pulls friends in.

- Use an easily repeated values line ("no likes and no follower counts") as the sharing slogan.

- Target an aesthetic subculture (girlblogger / 2000s retro / Pinterest) rather than a feature-based user group.
