> The profile layouts are very pretty and screenshot well, which fits the aesthetic of TikTok girlblogger accounts, Pinterest, and the 2000-era Tumblr crowd. Alt accounts with a few hundred followers each kept posting "my profile," and a few of those videos with hundreds of thousands of views pulled in the downloads.

# "Letterboxd, Pinterest, and Tumblr had a baby": how a free profile-customization app built by one person got pushed onto Europe's social charts by TikTok alts with a few hundred followers

**What it is** A free social diary app: it lays out the movies, shows, music, games, and books you've consumed as shelves. The profile's colors, wallpapers, fonts, and theme songs are all changeable, and there are no likes or follower counts.

**Why it took off** Once the profile is decorated it looks great and is made for screenshots. That fits the aesthetic circle on TikTok, including girlblogger, Pinterest, and 2000-era Tumblr. Small accounts with a few hundred followers posted "my profile" one after another, and several posts with hundreds of thousands of views drove the downloads.

**B** 55 **How you could follow** Don't just make an English version. Pick a language and platform it doesn't cover (for example, Chinese with RedNote, importing Douban and NetEase Cloud Music), make customization and one-click export of vertical image cards the core, and recruit aesthetic-circle TikTok accounts to post their profiles.

Follow-on score 55: few people know about it (no media, no X discussion). Growth came from its aesthetic positioning and users posting organically, so followers could copy it, and there's clear room to change language and platform. Deductions: it earns no revenue itself, social products need density and monetization is unproven, English markets already have it and passport, retention for a viral hit is unknown, and the review risk around underage users is a hard cost. Romeo Hazel, a 20-year-old developer in Santiago, built sharespot alone: movies, shows, music, games, and books each get a shelf layer, plus photo and short-thought posts. Profile colors, wallpapers, fonts, and theme songs are all customizable, and there are no like or follower counts. Starting in mid-October, a wave of TikTok accounts with a few hundred followers spontaneously posted "my sharespot profile." Several posts reached hundreds of thousands of views, Google Play added 30k installs in 7 days, and it entered the Social Top Free chart at #9 in Poland and #12 in the UK. It charges nothing. Below: what it is, why now, where users come from, who it competes with, and whether you could build one.

### A 15-second video

On Oct 29, 2026, a TikTok account with only 737 followers, @moonlightelie, posted a 15-second video captioned "sharespot u have my heart 🧸" with tags #girlblogging #niche. By Nov 6 it had 605k views and 99k likes.

The most-liked comment (5,644 likes) included a screenshot of the commenter's own profile: "the customization was overwhelming at first, but I figured it out." The second most-liked was "what app?!" (1,421 likes). The third: "I saw it yesterday, figured Android definitely wouldn't have it, but I could download it, I'm crying happy tears" (534 likes). Scrolling down, there's one profile screenshot after another, plus a Portuguese comment saying "another app I have to download."

This wasn't a one-off. In Oct 12, @hadesvoids (7,010 followers) posted "it so fun 🥹" and got 455k views. In Oct 19, @nix1e32 (1,230 followers) posted one with 477k views, captioned "sharespot you have my soul… this is basically a free ad." In Oct 31, @fairysar4hh (386 followers) got 329k. In Nov 1, @.emiixs (257 followers) got 222k, with a caption saying outright "the video idea came from another girl" (TikTok, 11-06 views).

### What it is

The store page's first line is "sharespot is a profile made of what you love": a profile made of the things you love. Breaking it down, it does three things:

- **Record:** five layers of shelves (movies, shows, music, games, books; the iOS version also adds anime, manga, people you like, and characters). You can rate to the decimal, write short reviews, keep a "want to see" list, and maintain a diary calendar sorted by date.

- **Show off** : change your profile's colors, wallpaper and font, and pin a "theme song" others can play; post photos, videos, thoughts and polls, and join interest-based "rooms."

- **Find people** : "sync" with anyone to see how much your shelves overlap; find people whose shelves look like yours; DM and group-chat with mutuals.

The last line of the store page is its slogan: "no likes. no follower counts."

Developer Romeo Hazel, San Diego, California, building it solo. The iOS version launched in May 2026 and is now updated to 1.7.1 (11-02). The official FAQ says: free to download, free to use, no in-app purchases, no ads.

### How big it is now

| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play installs | 10-29 to 43,600 in 11-05 days, +74,047,7 for 30,447 | Google Play store page |
| Play ratings count | 625 → 1,186 (11-06), up 11-04 160 a day | Same as above |
| Play social free chart | 10-29 still sits at 105–187 in various countries; best ranks 11-03 to 11-05: #9 Poland, #12 UK, #14 Sweden, #16 Italy, #17 Spain; best in the US #96 | Google Play charts |
| 11-06 slipping | Poland 13, Sweden 21, UK 23, Netherlands 23, Brazil 53, US 138; charted in 19 countries at once | Same as above |
| iOS | US store rating 612 (10-28) → 743 (11-06), 4.79 stars; about 90 countries have hit the social free chart, best in the US 88, UK 27 | App Store |
| Community | Discord 2,060 members | Discord invite page, 11-06 |
| Revenue | 0 (no charge) | Official FAQ |

For comparison: the same week Serializd (TV-only) added 8,434 installs on Play; sharespot was 3.6 times that. Letterboxd added 79.8k; sharespot was 38% of that (Google Play, 11-06).

Two shapes stand out. First, **Android is hotter than iOS** , the reverse of most TikTok-viral apps. The comment "thought it wasn't on Android" suggests many came expecting an iOS exclusive. Second, **Europe beats the US** : Poland, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands all rank higher than the US. One possible reason is age-verification laws in some US states; an App Store review says "sharespot isn't open to under-18s in your state yet" (inference, not the only explanation).

### Where users come from: alt accounts showing off their profiles, one copying the next

Almost all of it comes from TikTok, and not from official posts:

- **Official accounts aren't the engine** . @getsharespot has only 1,297 followers; its top post has 27.6k views ("pinterest and letterboxd had a baby"). The founder's account @appdevromeo has 508 followers.

- **The hits come from ordinary users with hundreds to a few thousand followers** . Nearly all of it is one format: a screen recording of "my sharespot profile looks like this" over a trending sound. The tags belong to an aesthetic circle: #girlblogger #girlblogging #niche #mediatok #pinterest #profileinspo #2000s #digitaldiary.

- **Template-style copying** . Later posters openly say "inspired by another girl," and the same format repeats video after video. From November, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian videos appear, matching when charts in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Europe started climbing.

- **The timeline lines up** : after three posts with 10-29k, 11-01k and 600k views between 330 and 220, the Play chart jumped from 10-31 to 11-04, and each update added 5,000 to 12,000 installs.

- **No paid spend found** . Some videos carry #notsponsored, and someone wrote "this is free advertising." No paid creators or ad buys were found (not finding them doesn't mean they didn't happen; unverified).

The product also has built-in hooks to pull people in: every profile is a public web page (sharespotapp.com/username), viewable without logging in; sync links can be sent straight to friends who haven't signed up; many reviews are calling "mutuals download it, I'll follow you over there." The site also has comparison landing pages like "free Letterboxd alternative" and "Instagram alternative with no likes" (launched in Oct 8). They're searchable but a small share next to TikTok.

### Why this one, and why now

Reading US App Store reviews from mid-October to early November, people are saying nearly the same thing, and no one is praising the logging features:

- "This app is like Tumblr, Pinterest and MySpace had a baby" "like Letterboxd, Pinterest and Tumblr had a baby, and it's a rich, gorgeous super genius"

- "Prettier than Pinterest???" "I love that I can customize my profile without a subscription" "Feels like I bought premium"

- "No follower counts and no like counts, so no chasing numbers" "No algorithm, no popularity contest, not even ads, just people"

- "Romeo keeps listening to what we say" "The founder replies fast and keeps shipping updates"

Broken down, it hits four things:

1. **The profile is customizable, and the customized result is screenshot-worthy** . The TikTok posts show nothing but profile looks. The users are young women who like collage and the aesthetics of 2000-era Tumblr and MySpace, not Letterboxd-style film buffs. Everyone who customizes wants to post a video, and the product itself is the content.

2. **One-tap import, full in the first minute** . You can import history from Letterboxd, Serializd, IMDb, MyAnimeList, Goodreads, StoryGraph, Spotify, Apple Music, Last.fm and Steam. New users don't start from zero adding items one by one; their shelves look good right away and are ready to screenshot.

3. **A value line that's easy to repeat** . "No likes, no follower counts" is both a selling point and lowers the barrier to showing off a profile: no fear of posting and getting no reactions.

4. **Completely free** . Rivals put customization behind a paywall; this one gives it all away. Users name this specifically as praise.

As for timing: in 2026 Letterboxd was put up for sale, and film fans worried a buyer would ruin it (AV Club, Yahoo, 10-05). But sharespot's audience overlaps little with the film crowd, and no direct evidence was found of Letterboxd users fleeing to sharespot. It's not the main cause.

### Where the money comes from: nothing yet

It's free, no ads, and one person carries the servers and content moderation. The site has repeatedly failed to load during traffic peaks (Vercel returned 429,11-06 too). Reviews already ask for a "like button" and shelves for "perfumes, clothes, places I've been": demand is growing, and so are costs. How he'll make money later, he hasn't said.

Possible directions (inference): customization asset packs, premium themes, larger upload quotas, the path Tumblr, Amino and early MySpace took. But its reputation rests on "customization without a subscription," so where the first paywall sits will decide whether this crowd stays.

### Risk: the biggest threat isn't competitors

Around Oct 20, a batch of 1-star App Store reviews appeared accusing the founder (20 years old) of improper chats with underage girls, and a "sharespot controversy" tag circulated on TikTok. None of this is verified. In the data, growth didn't stop after 10-20, but for a social app whose users are mostly young women, this is the largest reputation and platform risk.

Other points: TikTok comments like "watch it end the same way unspace did" and "this app won't last five days" with thousands of likes show this crowd has seen plenty of similar apps spike and die; the 11-06 chart has already fallen from its peak; and age limits in some US states will block part of the teen audience.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Scale | Versus sharespot |
|---|---|---|
| Letterboxd(2011) | 30M users; 12M installs on Play | Movies only, reviews and film culture; being sold |
| Goodreads(2007) | Play 32.6M installs | Books only, owned by Amazon, dated interface |
| StoryGraph(2021) | Play 1.89M installs | Books only, leans toward reading stats |
| Serializd(2021) | Play 676k installs, 7 days +8,434 | TV shows only |
| Backloggd / Musicboard / MyAnimeList | Vertical niches each | Each covers one thing |
| Listy | Not verified | Also multi-media, but built around private lists, with no social features or customization |
| passport: everything i love(2026-09) | Site claims 129k users; 72 ratings on the US iOS store; 678 installs on Play | Nearly the same positioning ("one page showing the games, movies, books and music you love"), leaning toward taste ID cards; weak on customization and posting |
| Pinterest / Tumblr / SpaceHey | Big company, long-established | The prototype for aesthetic collage and customizable profiles, but it doesn't track media; on the App Store "customers also bought", sharespot and SpaceHey sit side by side |

"Letterboxd for everything" isn't a new idea: Reddit users have asked since 2021, and Listy and passport are both building it. sharespot's edge isn't "multi-media" but "a customizable, showable social profile with no likes." The differentiation is distribution: what people customize is exactly the material TikTok's aesthetic circle wants.

Outside, few are paying attention: no press coverage, no discussion on X, no revenue to show off. It only blew up in that one TikTok circle.

### If it were you

**One call** : you can follow, but follow the idea of "turning a logging tool into a showable digital room," not clone sharespot in English. It already took this crowd in English, and passport targets the same positioning. The better bet is a language and platform it hasn't covered.

**Who it suits** : 1–2 people, one of whom can make mobile UI look great (the whole selling point is aesthetics, more important than backend), and one of whom lives in an aesthetic community and knows how that crowd shows things off. Able to accept no revenue for the first six months while the community grows slowly.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who wants money within three months (social products need density first, monetization comes later); anyone unwilling to moderate content (the users are young, and moderation and minor protection are hard costs; sharespot has already run into trouble here); anyone who only cares about features and not how they look (Letterboxd and Goodreads already cover features well).

**How to do it:**

- **Switch language and platform** : Chinese (on Xiaohongshu, "annual books/films/music recap," "bullet journal" and "profile decorating" are already big content), Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese. sharespot's videos have already gone Portuguese and Spanish, but its product and community are English-only.

- **One-tap import from the local legacy platforms** : for Chinese, that's Douban books/films/music, NetEase Cloud Music, QQ Music, Steam; Japan and Korea each have their own. This step decides whether a new user's profile is full in the first minute and ready to screenshot right away.

- **Make "customization" the core** : themes, wallpapers, fonts, theme songs, shelf styles, one-tap export to vertical images or video so users post it for you. The value slogans like "no like counts" can be borrowed directly.

- **Monetization** : stay fully free early to build density; later sell customization assets and themes (don't lock basic customization, which is exactly what sharespot users praise), or offer one-time paid content like a "yearly report."

**How to get users** : don't count on official accounts. First find 20–50 alt accounts inside that aesthetic circle (a few hundred to a few thousand followers is enough), give them early beta access and exclusive themes, and ask them to show off their profiles; keep the format uniform, "my XX profile looks like this," screen-recorded. Once one post takes off, others will copy it, which is how sharespot grew. Public profile pages plus taste-comparison links let every user pull friends in.

**Why now** : sharespot only started growing in October, hasn't done Chinese, Japanese or Korean, and passport only does English. Launch in one language within six months and run a few posts with hundreds of thousands of views, and the window is still open. Wait until mid-2027, and if sharespot localizes itself, or a big platform (Xiaohongshu, Douban) ships a "profile decorating" feature, the window narrows.

**What would mean you read it wrong** :

- sharespot's Play weekly installs fell back to a few thousand by late November and Discord has stopped growing, suggesting this is a gust of wind; retention can't hold it up, and for products like this the problem is retention, not distribution;

- You posted 30 alt accounts showing off your profile and not one got past 100k views in a month. Either your niche doesn't respond to profile flexing, or your profiles aren't good enough;

- Users dress up their profile and leave: no posts, no mutual follows. That means what you built is a dress-up tool, not a social product, so it neither makes money nor keeps people.

## Why sharespot (com.romeohazel.sharespot) took off

> Research date 2026-11-06. Data from our googleplay / appstore databases (as of 11-06), TikTok scraped via TikHub, Jina search and web page text, Apple public APIs, and the Discord invite API.

### One line

A free "record anything" social journal built by one person (Romeo Hazel, San Diego, California). It has shelves for movies, TV, music, games, and books, plus photo posts and short status lines, and you can customize avatar, colors, wallpaper, font, and theme song. **It has no like counts and no follower counts.** From mid-October, small accounts in TikTok's "girlblogger / mediatok / niche" circles started recommending it organically. Several accounts with a few hundred followers got hundreds of thousands of views, and its store rankings rose with them. It took off because of **organic spread inside content circles** , and what spread was **"the profile looks great and you can customize it,"** not "the tracking tool is useful."

### 1. Data: how big it is and how fast it's growing

- **Google Play** : cumulative installs 43,600 (10-29) → 74,047 (11-05), +30,447 over 7 days; rating 625 → 1,186 (googleplay library app_day). Release date listed as 2026-07-10 (Play release dates may have been reset).

- +30k over 7 days, which is 38% of Letterboxd's Android gains over the same period (+79,770) and 3.6 times Serializd's (+8,434) (googleplay library app_profile, 11-06).

- **Play social free chart** : 10-29 still ranks #105–187 across countries. 10-31 jumped suddenly (UK 116→51, France 200→51, Poland 164→65). 11-02 the US charted for the first time at 158. 11-03–11-05 best positions: Poland #9, UK #12, Sweden #14, Italy #16, Spain #17; US best #96 (googleplay library chart_rank). 11-06 it has slipped somewhat (Poland 13, UK 23).

- **iOS** (id 6760799374,2026-05-17 listed, v1.7.1,4.79 rating): US store 612 (10-28) → 738 (11-06) rating, +112 over 7 days; UK 42 → 95. It has charted in the social free chart in about 90 countries, best US 88 and UK 27 (appstore library). **Android growth is clearly much stronger than iOS** , and its chart positions in Europe (Poland, Sweden, Netherlands, UK) are better than in the US.

- **Discord** : 2,060 members, 162 online (discord invite API, 11-06).

- Monetization: the FAQ says "free to download, free to use, no in-app purchases, no ads," and it's run by one person (sharespotapp.com/faq). It currently has **no revenue** .

### 2. Competitors

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from sharespot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Letterboxd | iOS/Android/web | 2011(App 2016/2017) | 30M users (Inc. 2026-09); 12M Android installs, +7k in 79.8 days | Movies only (adding TV); focused on reviews and film-fan culture; put up for sale by Tiny 2026 years ago (valuation >$300M), with users crowdfunding to buy it |
| Goodreads | iOS/Android | 2007 | 32.6M Android installs; 760k iOS ratings | Books only, owned by Amazon, dated interface |
| Serializd | iOS/Android | 2021 | Android 676k installs, 7 days +8,434 | TV shows only |
| StoryGraph | iOS/Android | 2021 | 1.89M Android installs | Books only, stats-focused |
| Backloggd / Musicboard / MyAnimeList | Web/app | 2010s | Vertical niches each | Each covers one media type |
| Listy | iOS | Earlier than 2026 | Not verified | Also multi-media, but private-first and list-focused, with no social features or customization |
| passport: everything i love(Passport App LLC) | iOS 2026-09-12;Android 2026-10-28 | 2026-09 | Official site claims 129k users; US App Store has only 72 ratings, Android 678 installs | Nearly the same pitch ("one page to show the games/movies/books/music you love, find people with the same taste"), leaning toward a "taste ID card"; weak on social and customization; store volume far smaller than sharespot |
| Pinterest / Tumblr / SpaceHey | Big companies / long-established players | — | Pinterest iOS 5.81M ratings | It's the prototype for the "aesthetic collage" and "customizable retro profile" look, but doesn't track media; in Apple's "customers also bought," sharespot and SpaceHey appear side by side |

Verdict: **"Letterboxd for everything" isn't a new idea** (Reddit users were asking for it 2021 years ago; Listy and passport are already doing it), and each vertical has its giants. sharespot isn't the first, but it's currently the biggest new face in the store.

### 3. Where users come from: TikTok alts spreading it organically

Searching "sharespot" on TikHub returned 48 videos (a sample only). The most-viewed ones:

| Date | Account (followers) | Views | likes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-13 | @hadesvoids(7,010) | 455k | 47k | it so fun #sharespot #letterboxd #digitaldiary |
| 10-19 | @nix1e32(1,230) | 477k | 79k | sharespot you have my soul… this is basically a free advertisement |
| 10-29 | @moonlightelie(735) | 605k | 99k | sharespot u have my heart #girlblogging #niche |
| 10-31 | @fairysar4hh(386) | 329k | 46k | im in love #pinterest #mediatok #profileinspo |
| 11-01 | @.emiixs(254) | 216k | 31k | i got the video inspo from a girl guys! |
| 10-28 | @cwutiekay_(13,512) | 40k | — | literally new fav app #girlblogger #moodboard #2000s |

- Pattern: **small accounts with a few hundred to a thousand-odd followers** pulled hundreds of thousands of views with screen recordings titled "here's what my sharespot profile looks like," tagged #girlblogger #niche #mediatok #pinterest #letterboxd #2000s. Later copycats openly said "the video idea came from another girl," which makes it **template-style copying** . From November, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian videos appeared, matching chart growth in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Europe.

- The timeline lines up: after the three 600k / 330k / 220k posts from 10-29 to 11-01, the Play chart jumped 10-31 to 11-04, and installs rose by +5k to +12k per observation starting at 11-01.

- The official account @getsharespot has only 1,297 followers; its top post got 27.6k views ("pinterest and letterboxd had a baby"). The founder's account @appdevromeo has 508 followers. **Official content isn't the main driver.**

- Reviews self-report the source: "I first saw it on TikTok" (10-29 App Store reviews). On Reddit (r/Serializd, r/tvshow), people ask "is sharespot safe?"

- One video carries #notsponsored, another says "this is basically a free ad." **No evidence found of paid creators or ad buys** (our ad library only tracks products on its list, so not finding it doesn't mean it didn't happen; unverified).

- The product has built-in sharing hooks: each profile is a public web page (sharespotapp.com/<username>) viewable without logging in; the "sync" link compares two people's shelves for overlap and can be sent to people who haven't signed up; reviews are full of "mutuals download this so I can follow you there" (@1v0r1.tsu). **Demand for mutual follows is pulling people in.**

- SEO: the official site has landing pages /compare/letterboxd, /compare/goodreads, /compare/instagram (10-08 published) for "free Letterboxd alternative" and "Instagram alternative without likes." They're showing up in search results, but TikTok is still the bigger channel.

### 4. Why people stay

- Frequent review phrases: "like Tumblr + Pinterest + MySpace had a baby," "more like Pinterest aesthetics," "you can customize your profile without paying a subscription," "no follower or like counts so there's no pressure," "everyone is so nice," "one app replaces 5 apps" (recent US App Store reviews, 10-18 to 11-03).

- Import: history can be brought in from Letterboxd, Serializd, IMDb, MyAnimeList, Goodreads, StoryGraph, Spotify, Apple Music, Last.fm, and Steam. New users land with full shelves, so their profile looks good immediately and they can make a video right away.

- The founder is very active on Discord (2,060 members) and in reviews, and ships updates fast (iOS is already at update 1.7.1,11-02). Reviewers name the creator specifically, saying "responds quickly, keeps updating."

### 5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

- Compared with Letterboxd / Goodreads / Serializd: **multiple media types in one app** + **photo and thought posts** + **a customizable personal profile** + **zero likes and zero follower counts** .

- Compared with Listy / passport, which also combine media types: sharespot's edge is **customization and social** . Colors, wallpapers, fonts, theme songs, and custom shelves make a profile into a "digital room" people want to screenshot and show off. That fits the TikTok aesthetic trend of girlblogger, 2000s Tumblr nostalgia, and Pinterest moodboards.

- **This is why it took off:** TikTok videos almost all show off the profile's look rather than the tracking features. The audience is young women who like collage aesthetics, not cinephiles in the Letterboxd mold. "No like counts" gives creators an easy values story to tell and lowers the psychological barrier to posting your profile.

- Letterboxd being put up for sale 2026 years ago, with users worried a buyer would ruin it (AV Club / Yahoo 10-05), is background noise. But sharespot's spread happens in a circle that overlaps little with film fans. **No direct evidence found of Letterboxd users fleeing to sharespot** , so it's not a main cause.

### 6. How many people have seen it

- No media coverage, no discussion on X (x-radar corpus 60 days), and no public revenue (it doesn't charge anyway). It only went viral within TikTok, with scattered Reddit questions and one X alt posting about it in 10-22.

- A similar product, passport, already exists (on iOS since September, on Android since 10-28, with nearly identical copy). Whether sharespot copied it is unclear; the launch timing is close, so they look like parallel launches.

- Classification: **spreading within a small circle.**

### 7. Risks and uncertainties

- **Founder controversy:** around 10-20, several 1-star App Store reviews accused the founder (age 20) of inappropriate chats with underage girls, and TikTok has a "sharespot controversy" hashtag. None of it is verified, but growth wasn't interrupted after 10-20. The user base is young and mostly female, so this is the biggest reputational and platform risk.

- Some users report "not available in your state for under 18," showing the effect of US state age-verification laws. US teen users may be getting blocked, which could be one reason the US chart trails Europe (speculation).

- Free, maintained by one person, with server and review costs rising alongside users; the official site has hit Vercel limits multiple times 429. No clear monetization path yet.

- TikTok hit cycles are short; the 11-06 chart has already fallen from its peak, and whether it holds up remains to be seen.

### 8. Takeaways

- Turn a "tracking tool" into a customizable, shareable profile, so every use becomes a screen recording for TikTok.

- One-click import of old platform history, so a new profile looks "full" in the first minute. This lowers the barrier to posting.

- Public profile pages + taste-matching sync links + demand for mutual follows create a loop that pulls friends in.

- Use an easily repeated values line ("no likes and no follower counts") as the sharing slogan.

- Target an aesthetic subculture (girlblogger / 2000s retro / Pinterest) rather than a feature-based user group.
