Installs flat, ratings up 60–70 a day: how Seylo, with 24K installs, squeezed into the UK Social chart top 30
What it is A "nearby dating" app for men in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Chat and private photos cost diamonds, charged per message. IAP $1.99–$99.99.
Why it took off Targeted paid acquisition in four high-CPM English-speaking countries, bringing in over a thousand installs a day. The UK Social category chart is easy to crack, so it reached the top 30 quickly. Per-message billing makes each paying user spend heavily, which is how it hit the grossing chart.
CHow you could follow Don't copy the dating part. The transferable piece is the mechanics: pick English-speaking category charts with low entry barriers and categories where people pay high prices per use, sell a real service with per-use billing plus web top-ups, start with a small UK ad budget, and use the category grossing chart as the scoreboard.

Seylo is a "nearby dating + chat" app on Google Play. It launched in Sep 5, reached 24K cumulative installs by Nov 6, and ranked #21 on the UK Social free chart and #59 on the grossing chart. There's nothing new in it: a developer account on a personal Gmail, a paid acquisition budget aimed at English-speaking countries, a "pay per message with diamonds" model, and a rating pushed up to 4.79 stars. Below: how it makes money, where the traffic comes from, how many others do the same thing, and whether you should follow.
A review 15 people marked helpful
On Oct 16, a user named Philip Welch left a 1-star review on Seylo's store page: "Not an app where you can meet real people. They don't want to meet, don't want to date, give you a fake address, then make you buy their private photos and videos. A bunch of scammers." 15 people marked it helpful, making it the top review on the app page.
Earlier, on Sep 14, another review read: "Not free at all, the moment you open a chat to message someone, it asks for money." On Oct 18, someone else wrote: "Almost no real people, and the few there are seem fake."
Developer AxiomForge replied on Oct 28 with a template: "We take fraud and deception reports very seriously. Please report suspicious profiles using the in-app report feature."
On the same page, Seylo's rating is 4.79,1,590 ratings, 1,419 of them 5 stars (89%). Only 67 reviews include text.
What it is
The store listing is standard: "Meet local singles" to browse singles nearby, "Match with her" for one-on-one live chat with photos and videos exchanged, 18+ downloads. Note the "her": the copy assumes the user is a man. IAP runs $1.99 to $99.99 per item, no ads. Version 1.0.3, with no updates since Oct 10.
What users actually run into, based on reviews and the terms of service: after signing up, "women" start chatting quickly; to keep talking and to see private photos and videos, you have to spend Diamonds, charged per message with no refunds. Section 6 of the terms reads "Paid Messages and Paid Interactions," and says diamonds can be bought "through the website or other payment providers," meaning top-ups can go through the web and bypass Google's cut (seyloapp.com/terms). From the outside you can't tell whether the other side is real people, an outsourced support team, or AI. Unverified.
24k installs, how does it chart in Top Grossing
| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 14,776(10-29) → 24,119(11-06), +9,343 over 7 days, recently about 1,250–1,330 per day | Google Play,11-06 |
| Social free chart | UK #21 (10-29 was #69), Australia #43, US #48, Canada #56 | Google Play charts, 11-06 |
| Social grossing chart | UK #59 (10-29 was #98), US #83 | Google Play charts, 11-06 |
| Rating | 1,024 → 1,590, +54 to +93 per day; average 4.79 | Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06 |
Two things. First, it only charts in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, all high-price English-speaking countries. That's what targeted ads look like; organic word of mouth wouldn't line up this neatly. Second, the UK Social free category chart has a low bar: a thousand-plus installs a day gets you into the top 30. The top 60 to 90 on the grossing chart also doesn't take many paying users, just heavy spenders. The top tier is $99.99 per use, so one impulse can cost a lot (inferred). Real revenue isn't public, so it can't be estimated.
Where users come from
It's almost certainly bought, but I couldn't find where the ads ran.
- No organic buzz at all: TikTok search for "seylo" and "seylo dating" returns no relevant videos, X has 0 posts in the last 30 days, nobody discusses it on Reddit, and there's no press coverage. The only pages you can find are APK download sites and app data aggregators.
- Yet it steadily adds 1,300 installs a day, and only charts in four high-price English-speaking countries. The most likely explanation is targeted paid acquisition (inferred).
- Circumstantial evidence: Rocco, in the same batch, has a user review saying "ads on TikTok said it was free." I found no Seylo creatives in Meta's or TikTok's public ad libraries, but affiliate network and Google app ads are hard to see from outside anyway, so not finding them doesn't mean they weren't run.
Now the rating. On Oct 30, Nov 1, Nov 2 and Nov 4, the install count shown on the store didn't move (the page wasn't refreshed), yet the rating count still rose by 60–70 every day, steady as clockwork. Rating count is 6.6% of installs, where a normal app sits around 1%. 5 stars make up nine in ten ratings, fewer than 5% include text, and the written ones skew toward 1 stars. That pattern looks like a rating prompt shown in the app at a set moment (possibly with a reward), or it could be bought. From outside you can't tell which (inferred). Either way the effect is the same: people who arrive from an ad see 4.8 stars first, and conversion goes up.
One more detail: the store's Data safety section says both "may share personal info and device IDs with third parties" and "no data collected."
Who it's competing with
It's not the originator. It's a mid-sized unit on an assembly line. In the same period, with the same copy ("local singles," "Match with her") and the same price range, there are at least these (Google Play, 11-06):
| Product | Launched | Scale | Relation to Seylo |
|---|---|---|---|
| NightSpark - Local Dating & Chat | 2026-09-03 | 63K installs, UK Social free #9 | Launched two days earlier, more than twice the scale; same website and terms template |
| PeekMeet - Local Dating & Chat | 2026-07-03 | 44k installs, US Social Top Grossing #90 | Earlier, growth has slowed; terms nearly word-for-word identical to NightSpark |
| Rocco | 2026-10-13 | 35K installs, US Dating free #3 | Listed under Dating; reviews are full of "pay per message," "bot," "AI" |
| Nudge | 2026-07-07 | 25k installs | Already dropped off the charts |
| Lovira: Chat & Dating | 2026-09-10 | 2K installs, UK Social free #133 | Website uses the same frontend code as Seylo, even one stylesheet hash matches |
| Slip / Dash / OneBeat | 2026-06 to 09 | 0.9–44k | Same model |
| Xmet / Cuffing / FlutterX / Berry | 2026-07 to 10 | 0–18k | Four accounts from the same Gmail, openly running a matrix |
| Tinder / Bumble / Hinge | 2012–2017 | Hundreds of millions of users | Real two-sided matching plus subscriptions; a different kind of business |
Seylo and Lovira's sites are the same Vite + Vue site with the same directory structure, and NightSpark and PeekMeet use the same footer structure. They at least share the same site-building contractor, and likely the same circle (inferred, based on this one clue). Seylo's own terms are written separately and use "diamonds" where the others use "gold coins / points"; its starting price of $1.99 is slightly below the others' $3.99–4.99. That's the full extent of the differences.
These apps are all chasing the same male users in English-speaking countries and the same ad slots.
The weak point of this business
The bad reviews already say it: fake addresses, selling private photos, "scammers." This kind of app violates Google's fraud policy, can be pulled at any time, and tends to draw heavy chargebacks. That's why you see developer accounts on personal Gmail, one app per account, and package names swapped in batches. Each disguise may only last a few months, and the math is whether paid acquisition pays back within those months.
If it were you
Verdict: C. You can learn the playbook of low-barrier category charts, high per-use pricing and targeted paid acquisition, but copying it in dating doesn't pay: at least seven or eight copies already exist, backed by teams with site-building contractors and account matrices. The part that actually makes money (likely fake profiles and selling private photos) is fraud, so followers either shouldn't copy it or will get hit by takedowns and complaints.
Who it fits: teams already running overseas paid acquisition, with a stock of developer accounts and a web payment channel, who want to test a new category chart or a new language market.
Not for: indie devs with no paid acquisition experience (growth depends entirely on buying installs); anyone building a real dating product (real-person dating depends on user density, and cold start is far harder than this); anyone sensitive about account and payment-channel safety.
How to do it (only the reusable part): pick a category in an English-speaking store where the bar to chart is low and users will pay a high price per use. AI companion chat (clearly labeled as AI), tarot and emotional counseling all fit. Put a paywall on the real service you provide: first few messages free, then charge per message or per action with credits in several tiers, the top tier reaching $49–99. Also open web top-ups to avoid the store's cut.
How to acquire users: mainly paid acquisition, starting in the UK (at the same ~1,000+ daily installs, the UK Social chart ranks you higher than the US). Test with a small budget to find cost per install and payback days for paying users, and use the category grossing chart as your scoreboard. Don't write "free" in the ads. Half of this category's bad reviews come from that word.
When it works: there's no clear window. This playbook has been run continuously; the only question is whether your paid acquisition math works.
What would show you're wrong: ① Seylo, NightSpark and PeekMeet are still not taken down two or three months from now, with installs and chart ranks still rising. That would mean this playbook is more durable than it looks. ② A similar app that openly says it's AI chat, not real people, also reaches the top 60 of the UK or US Social or Dating grossing charts through per-message payments. That would mean the "honest version" survives at this price point, and the opportunity is bigger than described here.

It's not the same business. - Where users come from
- Inferred Paid acquisition (TikTok/Meta etc., targeting English Tier-1): no organic content or discussion at all, yet it adds about 1.3k installs a day steadily and only charts in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Rocco, a similar app, has reviews mentioning TikTok ads. Our ad libraries don't track Seylo.
- Verified Store charts and search: UK Social free chart #69→#21, grossing #98→#59 (googleplay chart_rank)
- Inferred In-app prompted ratings or rating fraud: rating count is 6.6% of installs. Only 67/1,590,5 stars have written text, at 89%. Ratings grow at a steady daily rate unrelated to install growth. The visible text reviews are mostly 1-star complaints calling it a scam.
- Inferred Matrix with reskinned shells (new developer account + new package name): the developer account uses a personal gmail, and only this one app is in the database under it. The website build code of sibling apps is the same source (toast-3f07326b.css hashes match).
Why Seylo: Dating & Chat (com.seylo.app) is able to chart
Bottom line
Seylo didn't get there through product innovation. It's one of a batch of "local dating + pay-per-message chat" matrix apps aimed at English-speaking markets (US, UK, Canada, Australia). The recipe: reskinned developer accounts, paid acquisition to bring in male users, Diamonds to unlock messages per use, and in-app rating prompts pushing the score to 4.8. It reaches the Social free and grossing charts because it spends money acquiring users in English Tier-1 countries, where the bar to chart in this category is low. There is essentially no differentiation. At least 6–8 sibling apps run the same playbook.
Data (Google Play library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)
- First listed on the store 2026-09-05, current version 1.0.3 (updated 10-10). Developer: AxiomForge. The contact email is a personal gmail ([email protected]), website seyloapp.com. This developer has only this one app in the database.
- Cumulative global installs 14,776 (10-29) → 24,119 (11-06), up 9,343 over 7 days. Recently adding about 1,250–1,330 per day.
- Rating count went from 1,024 to 1,590, growing steadily by 54–93 a day regardless of installs. On 10-30, 11-01, 11-02 and 11-04 the install increase was 0 (the store page didn't refresh), yet ratings kept climbing. Rating count ÷ installs = 6.6%, where a typical app sits around 1%. Of 1,590 ratings, only 67 include written text. Star distribution is 11-06 (24/8/67/67/1419): 5-star is 89%, average 4.79.
- Charts (11-06): Social free chart UK #21 (10-29 was #69), Australia #43, US #48, Canada #56. Social grossing chart UK #59 (10-29 was #98), US #83. Charting in only 4 countries, all English Tier-1.
- In-app purchases $1.99–$99.99 each, no ads. Terms state "Paid Messages and Paid Interactions" require Diamonds. Purchases "through the website or other payment methods" are supported, meaning users can bypass Google's cut with web top-ups (seyloapp.com/terms, section 6).
- iOS: searching "seylo" in the App Store finds no app of that name.
Why users come, and from where
- Paid acquisition (likely, not directly verified): our Meta and TikTok ad libraries don't track it. It isn't on the adwatch list, so the lack of results doesn't mean it isn't advertising. No organic buzz can be found online. Jina search returns only aggregator pages like APKPure, AppBrain, CNET, Softonic and Similarweb. A TikTok search for "seylo / seylo app / seylo dating" returns no relevant videos. x-radar shows 0 mentions in the last 30 days, and there's no Reddit discussion. An app with no content or word of mouth that still adds 1,300 installs a day and charts only in the four high-value countries of the UK, US, Canada and Australia most likely reflects targeted paid acquisition. Rocco (com.roccoko.app), in the same batch, has a user review saying "the advertisement on tick tock said that it was free" (googleplay database review, 2026-10-29), showing this type of app advertises on TikTok.
- Chart feedback loop: the UK Social free chart has a low bar. At a thousand-plus installs a day, it can place the app in the top 30. After charting, it picks up some organic store traffic.
- Why people pay: it draws men looking for local dates. Soon after signing up, "women" start messaging them. After a few exchanges, continuing requires Diamonds, and so do private photos or videos. A top-voted negative review on Google Play (15 people found it helpful) says: "try to get you to buy private photos and videos… They'll give you a fake address and then ask you to buy private photos and videos" (philip Welch, 2026-10-16). Another says: "the minute you go to message someone it asks for money" (2026-09-14). The developer replies with templates telling users to report suspicious accounts. This is a paid-companion / live-chat monetization model: pay per message, no refunds. A single impulse spend can reach $99.99 per user. Chart positions of UK #59 and US #83 in grossing show people are indeed paying.
- Why the ratings look good: ratings grow at a steady daily pace, 5-star makes up 89%, very few write text, and the visible text reviews are mostly 1-star complaints calling it a scam. This combination looks like in-app rating prompts (possibly with rewards) or rating fraud. Which one is unverified.
Competitors and "sibling apps"
English-language "Local Dating & Chat" apps running the same playbook in the same period (googleplay database, found by terms like "local singles" and "Match with her" in their descriptions):
| App | Developer (email) | Launched | Installs | Ratings (as % of installs) | In-app purchases | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NightSpark-Local Dating & Chat | StandardStream LLC(gmail) | 2026-09-03 | 63,157 | 3,818(6.0%) | $4.99–99.99 | Social free UK #9, grossing overall 148 |
| PeekMeet - Local Dating & Chat | Too sweet LLC(gmail) | 2026-07-03 | 44,349 | 2,701(6.1%) | $4.99–99.99 | US Social grossing #90 |
| Rocco | Silver State(gmail) | 2026-10-13 | 35,131 | 1,045 | $3.99–99.99 | Dating free US #3; reviews full of "pay per message / bots / AI" |
| Nudge: The Casual Dating App | Personal name (gmail) | 2026-07-07 | 25,284 | 1,649(6.5%) | $3.99–99.99 | No longer charting |
| Lovira: Chat & Dating | VeloLogic LLC(gmail) | 2026-09-10 | 2,044 | 172(8.4%) | $4.99–99.99 | Social free UK #133 |
| Slip / Dash / OneBeat | Zyphorora / Dash Social / Atomic Navigate | 2026-06~09 | 0.9–44k | 2.7–5.4% | $4.99–179.99 | Peers |
| Xmet / Cuffing / FlutterX / Berry | Shamim Reza (same gmail, 4 accounts) | 2026-07~10 | 0–18k | Very low | — | Openly running a matrix |
Real dating products (Tinder, Bumble, Hinge) are orders of magnitude larger, running on subscriptions and real two-sided matching. They're not the same business as Seylo. Seylo's real competitors are the apps in the table above, fighting over the same male users and the same ad slots.
Same source as sibling apps? Seylo's website and Lovira's are both Vite + Vue sites with the same /statics/<name>-<hash> directory structure. The file toast-3f07326b.css has an identical hash in both. NightSpark and PeekMeet have the same footer/index structure, and their terms of service are nearly identical. It's clear they use the same site-building code, likely from the same team or the same contractor. Seylo's terms were written separately and use "Diamonds," while the others use "coins/credits." So "same operator" is an inference, not verified.
Differentiation
Essentially none. Features (nearby people, matching, chat, sending photos and videos), monetization (virtual currency charged per message), copy templates ("Meet local singles", "18+"), and price range ($x.99–$99.99) are identical to the sibling apps. The only distinguishing operational details are a starting price of $1.99, which is cheaper to enter, explicit support for web top-ups in the terms, and a new site, terms and developer account. None of these explain why it charted. It charted because of its paid acquisition budget, the high ARPPU from per-message payments, and the low bar of the English-language Social chart.
How many people know about it
Still little known: no press coverage, 0 mentions on X and TikTok, and revenue is not public. Only data sites like Similarweb and AppGazers, and APK sites, have indexed it. The category itself is crowded, with at least 6–8 similar apps, and they're clearly reskinning in batches.
Takeaways and risks
- What to take from it: in English Tier-1 countries, the Social free and grossing charts have low entry barriers. At about 1,000 installs a day you can reach the top 30 in the UK, and grossing top 60–90. Targeted paid acquisition on a small budget can get you charting. Pay-per-message plus a high-priced IAP tier plus web top-ups can produce very high revenue per paying user.
- Risk: this model relies on live chat or AI posing as women. Negative reviews cluster around "scam," and the app could be removed under Google's fraud policy at any time. That's why operators keep rotating new developer accounts and package names (the origin of "matrix"). Not recommended to copy.
Uncertain
- No direct evidence for which channel (TikTok / Meta / Google UAC) was used or how much was spent.
- Unverified whether the chat counterparts are real people, outsourced agents, or AI.
- Unverified whether ratings come from in-app prompts or fraud.
- Only one piece of evidence links it to NightSpark, PeekMeet and Lovira as the same operator: shared site-building code.
- Actual revenue unverified; only chart positions are known.
