220k installs, 230 ratings all 5 stars: ShortTwist is the third package from one short-drama pipeline
What it is An Android app that streams vertical short dramas of one to two minutes per episode. It has no content of its own and makes money from ads and $0.99–$49.99 in-app coin purchases.
Why it took off The product isn't the reason; the operator is buying installs: stepped scaling, a two-day pause, then a hard push, while climbing entertainment charts in 17 countries and reaching the top 15 in Turkey. Its rating is 230 ratings all 5 stars, which doesn't match the text reviews that complain about it.
DHow you could follow it Don't copy the app itself. What you can take away is two methods: running the same template across several packages at once with small test budgets for each, and scaling spend only after payback, and testing unit economics first in cheap countries like Turkey and the Philippines. Apply them to a category that isn't saturated yet.

ShortTwist: Mini Drama Reels was listed on Google Play in Sep 30. By Nov 5 it had about 218k cumulative installs, of which 155k were installed in the last 7 days. In Nov 2 it hit #15 on Turkey's Entertainment free chart and also made Turkey's overall app chart. Its store page shows 230 ratings averaging 5.0, while the written reviews say "full of ads" and "scam." Behind it is a Vietnamese developer account, Infinity Store, which released two nearly identical packages a month earlier. Below: what it is, where the installs come from, where the money comes from, how crowded this path is, and whether you should follow it.
Two reviews and one 5.0
In Nov 6, the ShortTwist Google Play page showed 5.0 stars from 230 ratings (Google Play page, 11-06). When we first captured its rating distribution in Nov 3, there were 190 ratings, none from 1 to 4 stars. By Nov 6 it had reached 221 ratings, still all 5 stars.
Scrolling down, the written reviews visible on the page read like this:
Nothing but ads—you can't watch anything. The content that's supposedly free to watch is completely useless. i didn't even find the drama it's showed, scam
The earliest positive review, from Oct 14, says "All these apps are the best." It refers to "these apps" plural, not this one. Another short-drama package from the same developer, ShortNext, has 1,792 ratings, 256 of them 1 stars and averaging 4.35, which is what a normal short-drama app looks like. 230 ratings with zero negative ratings, while the text reviews complain, is not a distribution users would produce on their own (inference, high confidence; whether it was incentivized or bought can't be determined from outside).
What it is
An Android app for vertical short dramas. The store description reads "Big stories. Short episodes. Endless twists." Themes include revenge, domineering CEOs, hidden identities and plot twists, with episodes of one to two minutes. The app also includes a line that says "Some stories may also use AI-powered creative technology." The store listing shows ads and in-app purchases, with IAPs at $0.99 to $49.99 each (Google Play, US store), likely for coins or episode unlocks.
Everything beyond the app is rough: the website is an empty Blogger blog used only to host an ads.txt file, plus a single-page landing page on workers.dev whose source code still contains Vietnamese comments ("after deploying, change og:url to your real domain"). The privacy policy is a Google Sites template that says "available on iOS devices," and the contact field still holds the placeholder "[email address]".
Whose third package it is
The developer is Infinity Store, listed as an individual in Hanoi, Vietnam, with a Gmail contact address. The account has 8 apps with roughly 5M installs in total (AppBrain), and short dramas are the core:
| App | Launched | Cumulative installs / 7-day new installs (Google Play, 11-06) | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| DramaGo – Short Drama Series | 08-29 | 1.21M / +340k | 4.61,1,364 |
| ShortNext: Short Drama & Reels | 09-27 | 2.59M / +370k | 4.35,1,792 |
| ShortTwist | 09-30 | 220k / +160k | 5.0,221 ratings, 0 negative |
ShortTwist appeared three days after ShortNext, with the same IAP tiers, the same content categories and the same page copy. This isn't a product, it's a pipeline: one account publishes three similar packages in a month, and whichever one gets traction gets more budget.
The ads.txt files are more telling. The developer sites for ShortTwist and DramaGo both list the same AdMob ID and the same Meta Audience Network ID as their ad revenue accounts. Those same IDs also appear in the ads.txt files of three other short-drama apps: DramasHub (developer KryptoByteThe), ReelDream (a Vietnamese furniture company) and DramaLand (a Vietnamese construction company). ShortTwist's Facebook page posted "From intense revenge to billionaire romances, experience every emotion in 1 minute," and ReelDream's Facebook page posted the same line on October 18 and 19. Several seemingly unrelated developer accounts share one creative set, and their ad money flows into one account. Whether it's the same Vietnamese operator or a shared monetization agency can't be determined.
How the volume built up
Looking at the install curve (Google Play cumulative installs; the October figures are AppstoreSpy estimates):
| Date | Total installs | At that point roughly added each day |
|---|---|---|
| 10-09 | 3,598 | About 900 |
| 10-12 | 16,506 | About 4,300 |
| 10-21 / 10-22 | 35,039 / 44,087 | 7,800 / 9,000 |
| 10-28 → 10-29 | 63,041 | Almost zero |
| 10-31 | 108,261 | About 22,600 |
| 11-02 | 169,994 | About 30,900 |
| 11-05 | 218,257 | About 14,400 |
Small bursts started around October 10 and 21, then installs stopped entirely on October 28 and 29. From October 30 they suddenly scaled to tens of thousands per day, then fell back from Nov 3. Stepped growth with an abrupt mid-course stop looks like an ad spend switch, not word of mouth. Coincidentally, DramasHub under the same ad account paused for exactly the same two days, October 28 and 29 (inference: the same people turned off spend at the same time).
The chart shows the same shape. It charted in 17 countries' Entertainment Top Free charts: Turkey, Brazil, France, Mexico, the Philippines, Canada, Japan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia… It hit all of them almost at once, then slid down together. Brazil fell from #53 on 10-29 to #177 on 11-02, France dropped from 78 to 176, and Mexico from 86 to 163. Only Turkey kept climbing: 10-29 #58,11-01, #21,11-02, #15,11-01 through 11-04, and it even made the Turkey overall chart (peaking at #124). By Nov 6 it was left with Turkey #37, the Philippines #99 and Spain #198 (Google Play charts, 11-06).
I couldn't find which platform the traffic was bought on or how much was spent. The only confirmed entry point is Facebook: a "ShortTwist - Mini Drama Reels" page created in 2026, posting episode clips with the caption "1 minute twist episodes" and install buttons attached. Searching "shorttwist" on TikTok returns 0 posts, and X has 0 posts in the last two months. Online there are only auto-generated listing pages from APKPure and AppBrain. No one is talking about it; the volume is all bought.
Where the money comes from
Two revenue streams: while people watch, AdMob and Meta Audience Network ads play (reviews say "Nothing but ads", so they're dense), and viewers who want to binge can buy coins or unlock episodes, top tier $49.99. The shows are generic vertical micro-dramas, some AI-generated, so content cost is very low (whether the footage is licensed, AI, or scraped is unverified).
The math works like this: buy installs in cheap countries like Turkey, the Philippines, or LatAm, let ads plus a handful of paying users cover the cost, keep spending while it pays back, stop when it doesn't, then move on to the next app. No public revenue figures.
Who it's competing with
Above it are the big players with licensed libraries: ReelShort and DramaBox each about 307M installs, FreeReels 246M, and PineDrama, a TikTok-backed app that launched last December, is already at 84M and still adding 3M a week (Google Play, 11-06). They taught the world the habit of watching one-minute episodes on a phone.
Next to them is a crowd of shells built the same way as ShortTwist. Since August, 182 entertainment apps with drama, reel, or short in the name have launched, and 104 of them passed 100k installs (Google Play, 11-06). Among Vietnamese-made shells that surged in the same period, Drama World Pro added +690k in a week, Dramaly hit 1.12M installs, and MiniReels 1.27M. ShortTwist's 220k places it only mid-pack in this group. Even the names overlap: Plotwist has 1.3M installs, and ReelTale's package name is com.storyreel.twist.drama.
How many people know about it
Regular users barely know the name, and there's no discussion in media or on social platforms. But it's not just ShortTwist nobody knows. The playbook is the same: publish apps, buy installs, game ratings, and share one ad account across many accounts. Two hundred-plus apps run this way, and ShortTwist is just one of the copycats.
If it were you
D. Worth knowing about, but I wouldn't follow it. ShortTwist has no original shows and no product edge. Its growth comes from an operator's pipeline: one account ships three same-template apps a month, buys paid installs in pulses to push them up the charts, and runs 230 pure 5-star ratings, with ad revenue and shells under several "furniture company" and "construction company" names feeding into the same account. The only thing you could copy is that pipeline, and it's already crowded with about 200 apps, so the game is budget and account count.
Who it fits: companies already making global short-drama apps with footage and a UA team, using it as a competitor sample. In Turkey's entertainment chart, two to three thousand installs a day gets you into the top 20 and near the overall chart, so a new app can test payback starting in markets like that.
Who it doesn't fit: indie devs and small teams. The app is a template, and the cost is in footage and paid installs. Rating manipulation and template privacy policies violate Google Play policy, and multiple accounts sharing one monetization account means one bust can take down a whole group. Commenters are already calling it a scam, and these apps live for months, not years. Anyone who hasn't run paid ads or can't calculate how many days an install takes to pay back will just be paying tuition.
How to do it: what you can take is the method, applied to a category not yet crowded with shells. First, the "one template, many apps" test: launch two or three apps on the same template at once, each with a small budget. Scale whichever pays back and kill the rest, rather than betting everything on one app. Second, country order: first measure unit economics in cheap-install, low-bar markets like Turkey and the Philippines, then push into pricier countries. Third, how to study competitors: open a rival's developer site, check its ads.txt, and search other ads.txt files for the same AdMob ID. You'll see how many crews work a category and how many apps each runs.
How to acquire users: in this category there's only one route. Run local-language vertical clips of episodes on Meta and TikTok, with a line like "1-minute episodes," an install button attached, and several creatives tested in parallel.
When to get in early: there's no rush. This window isn't meant for small teams.
What would mean I got it wrong: ① By early December ShortTwist had passed 1M cumulative, reviews were starting to show a normal share of 1-star ratings, and it was still in the top 30 of Turkey's Entertainment chart. That would mean it's moved from a test build to a core build, and the shell's unit economics are better than they look. ② Infinity Store, or the same ad account, keeps spawning a fourth and fifth short-drama app, and each one pulls in tens of thousands. That would mean the pipeline is still making money. ③ The reverse: if it stops updating before December, drops off every chart, or gets pulled for rating issues, that confirms it was a one-shot test that got thrown away.

Why ShortTwist: Mini Drama Reels (com.short.reels.twist.drama) got traction
Channel: Google Play | Developer: Infinity Store (legal entity Nguyen Hoai Nam, Hanoi, Vietnam, gmail address) | Research date: 2026-11-06
Bottom line
This isn't an app that succeeded on product. It's the third short-drama app from Infinity Store, a Vietnamese team that churns out shell apps in bulk; the first two are ShortNext (2.59M installs) and DramaGo (1.21M). Growth came from three things: pulse-style paid installs starting in late October; short-drama clips on a Facebook Page with an install button; and a rating pattern where 100% are 5 stars, which doesn't match the written reviews. Turkey's entertainment free chart is where it climbed highest (peak #15). Monetization is ads plus in-app purchases ($0.99–$49.99). Its AdMob and Meta Audience Network accounts are the same as those of short-drama shells under other "furniture company" and "construction company" names, which points to a Vietnamese operator running a matrix of developer accounts. The product has no differentiation, and users are already calling it a scam.

Charts (googleplay library chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06)
- Has charted in the entertainment free chart in 17 countries historically: Turkey, Brazil, France, Mexico, the Philippines, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Spain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Nigeria, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and others.
- Turkey is the main battlefield: 10-29 #58 → 11-01 #21 → 11-02 #15 → 11-06 #37; 11-01 to 11-04 it also reached Turkey's overall app chart (best #11-03 overall, #124 at peak).
- Everywhere else it charted and then fell: Brazil 10-29 #53 → 11-02 #177, then dropped off; France 78 → 176; Mexico 86 → 163; Canada 112 → 188. Only three countries still chart: Turkey (37), the Philippines (99), and Spain (198).
- AppBrain's summary reads "Its best ranking is #2 in Top …" (the page was blocked by Cloudflare, so the full text wasn't read; based on similar apps, it's likely a country's "Top New Free · Entertainment" new-releases chart).

Scale: 2026-08 entertainment apps launched after 182 with drama, reel, or short in the title are in the library, and 104 of them passed 100k installs. ShortTwist is only mid-pack in this group.
3. Where users come from
- Paid acquisition (likely, not verified by the ad platform): the install curve is a step-and-pause shape, and the app shot up the charts in 17 countries at once, then dropped together. That looks like bought installs pushing chart rank, not organic word of mouth. The in-app purchase tiers match its sibling apps, a template built to pay back through IAP and ads. Our metaads library hasn't indexed the advertiser pages for ShortTwist, ShortNext, or DramaGo (not finding them doesn't mean they didn't run ads).
- Facebook page posts clips with an install button (confirmed page exists): the Facebook page "ShortTwist - Mini Drama Reels" (page id 61595530075458, whose id range suggests it was created in 2026). One post reads "From intense revenge to billionaire romances, experience every emotion in 1 minute", with the caption "Shorttwist ai short drama app with 1 minute twist episodes" (from a Jina search snippet; the post now shows as unavailable). This copy matches, word for word, a post on the ReelDream Facebook page (developer listed as "DONG SAI GON FURNITURE JOINT STOCK COMPANY") from 10-18/19, so both apps share the same creative and the same team.
- Rating manipulation (likely): all 221 ratings are 5 stars, with none at 1–4 stars. The visible written reviews on the Play page read "Nothing but ads—you can't watch anything" and "i didn't even find the drama it's showed, scam" (10-31). The oldest one, from 10-14, says "All these apps are the best", which refers to "these apps" rather than this one, and has 8 "helpful" votes. Its sibling ShortNext has 256 ratings at 1 stars, which look normal. Compared with that, ShortTwist's star distribution is clearly not natural. Before 11-03 we couldn't pull ratings, and as soon as 11-03 appeared there were 190 ratings, all 5 stars.
- One operator, many apps, shared monetization accounts (confirmed): the ads.txt files for ShortTwist, DramaGo, and ThemeBox all list
google.com, pub-4226576672608638andfacebook.com, 411776127249763. The same AdMob / Meta Audience Network pair also appears in the ads.txt files of DramasHub (KryptoByteThe), ReelDream (Dong Sai Gon Furniture), and DramaLand (Engineering Construction JSC) (see the reports for those apps in this directory). ShortNext uses a different AdMob ID (pub-5889155949011891) and a broader mediation stack, with 3,825 ads.txt lines including Mintegral and Bigo. The landing page source has Vietnamese comments ("SEO cơ bản", "thay og:url bằng domain thật sau khi deploy"). Conclusion: a Vietnamese operator is running the same short-drama shell across several developer accounts, with ad revenue flowing into the same accounts. - No content, creators, or media coverage: TikTok (via TikHub) returns 0 results for "shorttwist" and "short twist drama"; X (x-radar, 60 days) returns 0 results; the web only has auto-generated listing pages from APKPure, AppBrain, Similarweb, Softonic, and CNET Download; there are no Reddit threads about it.
4. Where the money comes from
- Ads: AdMob plus Meta Audience Network (listed as DIRECT in ads.txt). The reviews say "Nothing but ads", so ad load is heavy.
- In-app purchases: $0.99–$49.99 per item, likely coins or episode unlocks.
- Unit economics: buy installs in low-cost markets like Turkey, the Philippines, and Latin America, then pay back through ads plus a small number of paying users. The content is generic vertical short drama, and the listing says "some stories use AI-generated" content, so content costs are low. No public revenue figures exist and nobody has posted any.
5. Differentiation
Nothing new. The content categories (revenge, CEO romance, hidden identity), the paywall tiers, and the page copy are the same template as sibling apps ShortNext and DramaGo. The only "new" element is the line in the listing, "Some stories may also use AI-powered creative technology", plus "ai short drama" in the Facebook copy. That is a rewording and not why it grew. It got traction because of the operator's pipeline: spinning up apps, buying installs, faking ratings, and rotating accounts.
6. What to borrow
- The short-drama category has already been educated by big players, so a small team can take a slice of demand with "a shell + cheap-market paid installs + ads + IAP." One account can run 3+ similar apps at once and scale whichever one's ROI works out.
- Push into the top 20 in a country like Turkey where the entertainment charts are easy to enter and installs are cheap, possibly reaching the overall chart, and only then look at other countries.
- The cost: the ratings and reviews don't match, and "scam" reviews are already showing up. Rating manipulation and a boilerplate privacy policy (it says iOS, and the contact details are placeholders) both carry Google Play policy risk. When one payment account is linked across several developer accounts, banning one can take the others down with it.
7. Still unclear
- I didn't find which platform they bought installs on (Meta, Google UAC, TikTok) or how much they spent. The metaads library doesn't track these pages.
- Whether the 5-star ratings are incentivized or bought, or Play's stats are simply delayed, can't be fully determined. What is certain is that they don't match the written reviews.
- Whether the content is licensed, AI-generated, or pirated hasn't been verified.
