# "Share to WhatsApp for free coins": after the top SMS-receiving service shut down, a Dubai utility-app studio used paid acquisition to push GetOTP to 310k installs

**What it is** An Android app where you spend coins on a one-time virtual number to receive verification codes from WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok and others. If no code arrives, coins are refunded. No sign-up, no subscription.

**Why it took off** SMS-Activate, the leading SMS-receiving service, shut down at the end of 2025, and demand scattered across a batch of new apps. Galixo, the studio behind it, already ran a stack of utility apps on Google app-install ads. It went from launch to 170 countries in three weeks, backed by daily coin rewards, share-for-coins, and aggressive rating prompts.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't build the 21th English coin-based SMS app. If you have paid-acquisition chops or your own number supply, go after what they do poorly: delivery rates and support, local languages and local payments, or a web version with an API for cross-border sellers and social-media operators.

C grade: real demand and real revenue, but Google Play already has twenty-plus nearly identical products, the older players are ten times bigger, and GetOTP's edge is a ready-made paid-acquisition machine that followers can't copy. There's also platform-policy takedown risk, which makes it a poor bet for most people. Few people know about it yet

GetOTP is an Android app that sells one-time phone numbers for receiving verification codes. It launched in July, and by November 6 it had 310k installs on Google Play, adding over four thousand a day. The product looks just like its competitors. It took off because the industry leader, SMS-Activate, shut down at the end of last year, leaving a big pool of demand. The studio behind it, Galixo, already ran a company on Google ads pushing a stack of utility apps. Below: what it sells, where the installs and money come from, who it's competing with, and whether you should get in.

### A review written like an ad

In 2026 July 24, two weeks after launch, a user named Olaitan Abefe left a five-star Google Play review in one breathless run-on with almost no punctuation: the number works on many apps, "download it quickly and get a number to receive OTP", "and you can share to get more coins 🪙", "just share to your WhatsApp now okay". By November the review had 34 "helpful" votes and sat at the top of the store page.

The two reviews below it show the other sides of the business. In Aug 21, Pische Yanke wrote: "I bought a Telegram number, the code never came, the support is the worst I've seen, you can't report the number or swap it, and as soon as I hit send it says NUMBER BLOCKED." In Sep 12, Ogboru Francis wrote: "I haven't used it yet, but the menu looks good... I'll come back and fill in the stars once I've successfully got a number."

Coin-based signups, codes that never arrive, and ratings given before use: those three things pretty much explain how GetOTP got going.

### What it sells: a number, one code

When you sign up for WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, Gmail or ChatGPT and don't want to use your own phone number, or you don't have a number that can receive international SMS, you open the app: pick the platform, pick a country, get a number, and within seconds to minutes the code appears in the app. The number is used once and then discarded. If no code arrives within the validity window, your coins are refunded automatically.

You pay per use. The store page describes a "coin-based system" and "pay-as-you-use", and the Google Play in-app purchase range is $0.99–99.99. You get coins by opening the app daily, and more by sharing it with friends. No subscription, no account registration. The website web.getotp.app says it supports 649 platforms and 160 countries, with numbers "from our own pool, discarded after use, no resold numbers." But service codes like Papara, Nttgame, Gg, Rambler, Mailru and Attapoll follow the naming of SMS-Activate, the veteran SMS-receiving site. It's more likely wrapping a wholesale SMS provider's API in an app shell (inference; I couldn't confirm who the upstream is).

Below the store description is a fairly thorough disclaimer: it isn't affiliated with any third-party platform, doesn't bypass any security verification, and prohibits bulk registration and fraud. Who that paragraph is written for is clear to everyone.

### Why now: the leader shut down

SMS receiving isn't a new business. The web-based SMS-Activate had run for many years and was the widely recognized leader. In 2025 Dec 22 it announced it was closing, and in 2026 Feb 5 it stopped withdrawals (several SMS-service "alternatives" articles, including juicysms, smspin and hero-sms, cover this). Another, DaisySMS, also closed (Reddit r/NoContract).

People who need SMS receiving didn't disappear, but supply scattered. From 2026 1 to March, at least 6 similar new apps appeared on Google Play: SmsCode, UCODE, Get SMS Code, APPLOX and APPSTAR, each with its own "Virtual Number", plus one simply called "SMSActivate". GetOTP's iOS version launched in Mar 10. The Android package's store page lists a first-release date of Jul 9, but the version number is already 2.2.1 and the privacy policy took effect in February, so the listing date was probably reset or an earlier package name was used (inference).

### Numbers: not explosive, but steadily rising

| Date | Google Play cumulative installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 272k | 35.9k |
| 11-02 | 297k | 38.1k |
| 11-06 | 310k | 40k |

Source: Google Play public data, scraped daily. Gained 9 days' worth of 39k installs, roughly 4,300 a day; ratings add 375–585 reviews per day. The 11-06 store page (Nigeria storefront) shows a 4.7 rating from 40.2k reviews.

Charts (Google Play, 11-06): #36 in Communication Top Grossing in Indonesia (10-29 is 42), #54 in Communication Top Grossing in India, and #59 in Communication Top Free in Nigeria. A dozen more storefronts sit in Top Grossing at ranks 105–115, moving up and down together every day. That looks more like an aggregated chart than real revenue in those countries.

Nobody outside can see how much money it makes. Only third-party estimates exist: AppGazers estimates Google Play in-app purchases of $5,500–14,000 for October (estimate). A dozen-plus thousand new installs a month and roughly $10K in in-app purchases isn't an outrageous haul for this app alone. For a company buying traffic, it's more like one cell in a matrix.

One number deserves a separate look: ratings ÷ installs = 12.9%. A typical app sits at 0.5–3%, and TextNow, a "second number" app, is only 1.2%. But the similar coin-based SMS apps are all at this level: VirtuNum 11.6%, GetCode 9.5%, VSim 9.3%, UCODE 15%. Out of forty thousand-plus ratings, only five hundred-odd have text. The whole category pops up a rating prompt on open, and it may be tied to coins (inference, not verified; swapping rewards for ratings would violate Play policy).

### Where the installs come from: an off-the-shelf paid-acquisition machine

Galixo L.L.C-FZ is registered in Dubai's Meydan Free Zone, and the team is in Islamabad, Pakistan. It's a classic utility-app factory: Football Live Score with 9.09M installs, Status Saver 6.48M, Live Earth Map 720k, Phone Clone 490k, and another developer account, Galixo.AI, has a VPN with 1.99M installs.

Looking at this advertiser in the Google Ads Transparency Center (verified, UAE): 1,000–2,000 creatives in total, almost all app-install videos, of which about 208 were running in the last 7 11-06 days, across 201 countries. GetOTP's own Android creative started running in July 30, three weeks after launch; one ran for 100 days across 170 countries. In Oct 14 another was added, and iOS creatives started in Aug 22. Most of the budget still goes to older products like football scores and file managers, with GetOTP slotted in as a new cell.

This isn't Galixo's first number play. Starting in October 2025 it ran ads for "Second Phone Number - 2nd Line", a long-term second number, which only got 37 reviews and never took off. Switching to the more urgent, cheaper one-time SMS-receiving format, at the moment SMS-Activate shut down, is what made the second attempt land.

Other channels are weak: @galixoapps posted one Instagram Reel for GetOTP (10-07,5 likes); searching TikTok for getotp returns the same-named site getotp.net; no one on X has mentioned it in nearly 90 days; and I found no influencers, media or Reddit threads pushing it. Its traffic is essentially Google ads + store search (the title literally reads "Virtual Number - Receive SMS") + in-app "share for coins".

### Who it's competing with: twenty-plus apps, and it's second tier

| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | How GetOTP differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| VirtuNum - Virtual Number | 2023-08 | 6.74M installs, #10 in Indonesia Communication Top Grossing | The same coin-based SMS model, three years earlier, 20 times bigger |
| GetCode - Virtual Number SMS | 2023-07 | 3.75M, #13 in Communication Top Grossing in Turkey | Same model, with a website pulling search traffic |
| SMS Virtual(smsvirtual.ru) | 2023-04 | 3.71M, 7 days +30k | An app released by a Russian SMS-receiving site, weekly growth similar to GetOTP's |
| VSim | 2023-08 | 2.68M | Same model |
| SimCode | 2025-09 | 780k, #60 in Communication Top Grossing in Indonesia | Same-period newcomer, 10 months earlier |
| SmsCode, UCODE, Get SMS Code and others | 2026-01 to 03 | 20k–340k each, weekly growth 1,000–6,000 | Entered the same wave; GetOTP is the fastest-growing of the batch |
| TextNow, Text Me, 2nd Line, Hushed | 2011–2017 | tens of millions | Subscription-based long-term numbers that can make calls, not one-time SMS receiving |
| HeroSMS, 5sim, SMS-Man and other web sites | Years | Industry wholesale / retail | Requires sign-up and top-ups (USDT is common) and has an API; GetOTP is a shell for non-technical phone users, paying through Google Play |

The products are nearly identical: same flow, same coins, same refunds on failure. Against the other newcomers, GetOTP wins on ad budget and ratings count. Against the veterans, it loses on the three-year head start and ten-times scale.

### If it were you

**Verdict: C.** The business is real and does make money, but it runs on an off-the-shelf Google paid-acquisition machine, not a product idea that followers can copy. Google Play is already crowded with twenty-plus nearly identical coin-based SMS apps, the veterans are ten times bigger, and new entrants from the same batch keep arriving.

**Who it suits:** teams that already have a Google UAC account, a creative pipeline and a stack of utility apps running. For you, it's just one more cell, the upstream SMS API is ready to buy, and you could launch in two to three weeks. Or people with their own number supply (carrier relationships, SIM pools), whose gross margins beat those who resell someone else's API.

**Who it doesn't suit:** indie developers starting from zero who want to grow through organic traffic or social media. The category gets no conversation on TikTok and no word of mouth; it runs entirely on paid ads. It also doesn't suit anyone who can't stomach policy risk: SMS apps are often used for bulk registration and promo abuse, and one Google Play policy tightening, or being caught trading coins for ratings, could wipe out the whole package.

**How to do it:** don't build the 21th English coin-based SMS app. The more promising plays are the parts they do poorly. First, delivery and support: the bad reviews are almost all "the code never came, the number got blocked, nobody replied". High delivery rates and instant human support give you a real reason to win people over. Second, local languages and local payments: interfaces in small languages across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, with local wallets and carrier billing, have more room than competing with twenty apps for the words "Virtual Number" on Play. Third, a web version: beyond non-technical phone users, lots of cross-border e-commerce sellers and overseas social-media operators verify accounts every day. A web product with an API and pay-as-you-go top-ups avoids Google's 15–30% cut.

**How to get users:** run Google UAC app-install videos in cheap-traffic countries such as Nigeria, India and Indonesia; give coins daily in the app and more for sharing; and use search terms like "Virtual Number", "Receive SMS" and "OTP" directly in the title.

**When to get in early:** the gap SMS-Activate left is filling up, and the batch that entered in the first half of 2026 has already settled in. If you haven't entered by early 2027, the upside of this reshuffle is probably gone (inference).

**Signs you've got it wrong:** GetOTP's install growth drops off quickly once Galixo stops adding budget, and its Indonesia and India chart rankings slide. Or Google Play starts removing coin-based SMS apps in bulk. The first means the volume was bought, the second means the platform has closed the window.

## Why GetOTP (Virtual Number - Receive SMS, com.smart.otp.app.assistant) took off

### Verdict

GetOTP is an SMS-receiving app from Galixo (Galixo L.L.C-FZ / Galixo AI), a tool-app factory registered in a Dubai free zone with its team in Islamabad. You buy a virtual number and receive a verification code once, with coin-based in-app purchases. It took off not because the product is unique, but mainly because of three things:

1. **The demand never went away, but the old supply collapsed** : SMS-Activate, the industry leader, shut down 2025-12-22 (DaisySMS also closed), so the demand scattered across a batch of new sites and apps; over 2026 years a whole wave of similar new apps appeared on Google Play;

2. **Google UAC ad machine shared across the in-house tool portfolio** : Galixo has 1,000–2,000 creatives in the Google Ads Transparency Center, about 7 running in the last 208 days, almost all app-install videos; GetOTP started paid ads 3 weeks after launch and expanded to 170 countries;

3. **The coin model makes "free to install, pay per use" work smoothly** : free coins for opening the app daily, coins for sharing, automatic refunds of coins when no code arrives, 0.99–99.99 USD top-up packs, no subscription or sign-up, which fits low-willingness-to-pay, pay-per-use users in Nigeria, India, and Indonesia.

It isn't a hit: it's adding 39k installs over 7 days, second tier among its peers (VirtuNum, GetCode, SMS Virtual, and other 2023-year-old veterans are each 10 times bigger). What's worth watching is that a tool factory ran this gray-but-essential business with standard playbooks (UAC paid acquisition, coin-based in-app purchases, high ratings) and got real volume.

### 1. Data

Source: googleplay library (app_snap / chart_rank, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

- Global cumulative installs 271,698 (10-29) → 310,351 (11-06), +38,653 in 9 days, about 4,300 per day; store tier 100K+.

- Ratings count 35,949 → 39,989, adding 375–585 per day, while written reviews only go from 487 → 549. **Ratings / installs = 12.9%** , versus 0.5–3% for typical apps. Coin-based SMS apps in the same category are just as high: VirtuNum 11.6%, GetCode 9.5%, VSim 9.3%, SimCode 8.3%, UCODE 15%; while second-number apps like TextNow sit at 1.2%. This suggests the category commonly prompts for ratings inside the app (likely tied to coins, **unverified** ). Star distribution: 11-06 5-star, 31,282 1-star 3,132.

- Charts (11-06): Indonesia COMMUNICATION Top Grossing #36 (10-29 is #42, trending up), India COMMUNICATION Top Grossing #54, Nigeria COMMUNICATION Top Free #59, Indonesia Top Free #102, Vietnam Top Free #104. Around ten other stores, including ae/ar/hk/my/nl/ph/pl/sg/th/vn/za, have it in Top Grossing at #105–115, and they rise and fall together every day, so it's the same aggregated chart, not real revenue in many countries.

- Versions: Android 2.2.1 (11-06); iOS id6758337614,2026-03-10 listed 1.2.9, 50 ratings in the US store (iTunes lookup). The Android store lists its launch as 2026-07-09, but the version number is already 2.x and the privacy policy took effect 2026-02-25, so the Android listing date **has likely been reset** (or the package was swapped first).

- Revenue: AppGazers models 2026-October Google Play in-app purchases at $5.5K–$14K, with 50k–235k downloads (modeled, 80% range). Our library shows about 130k new installs over 30 days, within that range.

- The developer Galixo L.L.C-FZ has 5 apps in the library, totaling 17.1M installs: Football Live Score 9.09M, Status Saver 6.48M, Live Earth Map 720k, Phone Clone 490k, plus GetOTP. Galixo.AI has a separate developer account with VPN Master at 1.99M.

### 3. Growth tactics

- **Google Ads (confirmed)** : In the googleads library, advertiser "Galixo L.L.C-FZ" (AR04660356605005529089, verified, UAE) has 1,000–2,000 total creatives, 1,008 of which are all video, 97% app installs; 7 running in the last 208 days, covering 201 countries (11-06). Among the creatives where the landing app can be identified, GetOTP has 2 Android creatives (CR10029049292460654593:2026-07-30 onward, running 100 days in 170 countries, EEA impressions 4.5k–50k; CR01738958496382058497:10-14 onward, 110 countries) and 2 iOS creatives (from 08-22). Most go to Football Live Score (40 creatives), File Manager, Music Player, Live Earth Map, and others. Galixo also has a number app, "Second Phone Number - 2nd Line", running since 2025-10, but it only has 37 store reviews and didn't break out. GetOTP started paid ads 3 weeks after launch, Galixo's second attempt in the number category.

- **In-app referral (confirmed feature, effect unverified)** : Play review (Olaitan Abefe, 2026-07-24,34 people found it helpful) says "you can share to get more coins"; the iOS description says "Claim free coins daily by opening the app - Earn additional coins through…".

- **Ratings (inferred)** : Rating-to-install ratio is 12.9%. One review says "haven't used it yet, rated first, will come back to add stars after getting the number" (Ogboru Francis, 2026-09-12), suggesting the app prompts for a rating as soon as it opens, likely tied to coins. This gives it a 4.5 score and 40k ratings in search results, outranking most new rivals. **Unverified** whether ratings are actually traded for coins.

- **Store search / ASO (inferred)** : The title uses the search term directly, "Virtual Number - Receive SMS"; the iOS title is "Virtual Number & SMS - GetOTP"; it appears in the free category charts in Indonesia, India, and Nigeria.

- **Official site SEO (weak)** : web.getotp.app lists 649 supported platforms and has a few tutorials (sms-verification, temporary-phone-numbers); no evidence of external rankings found.

- **Social (very weak)** : Instagram @galixoapps has a GetOTP Reel (2026-10-07,5 likes); searching getotp on TikTok returns only the same-named getotp.net and unrelated videos; on X (tracked for 90 days by x-radar) there are 0 posts.

- **Conversion** : No influencers, media, or Reddit posts recommending it were found.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **Timing** : SMS-Activate shut down 2025-12-22 and stopped withdrawals 2026-02-05 (juicysms.com, smspin.io, and hero-sms.com all mention it), and DaisySMS also closed (r/NoContract). Demand for SMS receiving hasn't changed, but supply has been reshuffled, and from 2026-01 to 03 at least 6 similar new apps suddenly appeared. GetOTP is one of them: launched on iOS 2026-03, and this Android build launched 2026-07.

2. **User acquisition muscle** : Galixo already runs a tool portfolio on Google UAC (Football Live Score at 9.09M installs). Accounts, creative pipeline, and 170-country targeting are all in place, so plugging GetOTP in gets it moving. Nigeria, India, and Indonesia are cheap-traffic countries and exactly where OTP-number users are.

3. **Pay-per-use coin model** : coin packs at $0.99–$99.99, automatic refund if no code arrives, free daily coins, coins for sharing. Users don't subscribe. They install, try it, and top up when they need a WhatsApp, Telegram, or TikTok code. Indonesia's Top Grossing chart climbed from 42 to 36, so people are clearly paying.

4. **Rating moat** : 40k ratings at 4.5 stars. A few months after launch it matched the review density of rivals that had been around for two or three years, so store conversion is solid.

### 5. Differentiation

**Almost no product differentiation** : gameplay is identical to VirtuNum, GetCode, VSim, and SimCode (pick service → pick country → get number → receive code → refund on failure). The official site's selling points are "our own number pool, each number used once and never resold", "5 languages of live support", and "649 platforms". The supported services list includes codes like Papara, Nttgame, Gg, Rambler, Mailru, and Attapoll, which follow the SMS-Activate naming scheme. **It is very likely a resold wholesale SMS API** (upstream provider unverified), and the "own number pool" claim is probably marketing. The real differences are in **distribution and branding** : a tool factory with a mature UAC machine running this category, a neutral "GetOTP" brand, no sign-up, and Google Play in-app purchases. It works because of distribution, not product.

### 6. Visibility

Almost nobody knows about it yet. Revenue isn't disclosed, there's nothing on TrustMRR or X, and no media coverage. Only AppGazers' automated model page offers an estimate (5.5K–14K USD per month). Still, the "virtual number SMS app" category is already crowded, with 20+ apps on Google Play alone.

### 7. Copycats

I found no one specifically copying GetOTP. A large batch of similar template apps launched in the same period: SmsCode, APPLOX and APPSTAR's "Virtual Number - SMS Activate", UCODE, Get SMS Code, SMSActivate, TempNumber (Nova Nest), OnayApp, and others. They're all competing for the gap left by SMS-Activate's shutdown, not copying GetOTP.

### 8. Takeaways

- Wrap a B2B or gray-market wholesale service (an SMS API) in a phone app with "no sign-up, in-store purchase, coins deducted per use", and sell it to beginners in emerging markets. Auto-refunding failed attempts is the key to building trust.

- Free daily coins, coins for sharing, and a rating prompt on open. Low-cost tactics that build up ratings and retention.

- With existing UAC accounts and a creative pipeline, you can launch a new app and start spending in 170 countries within 3 weeks. If it doesn't work, swap the bundle and try again (Galixo's Second Phone Number didn't take off).

### 9. Uncertain

- Where the upstream numbers come from (HeroSMS, 5sim, or someone else) and the gross margin: unverified.

- Whether the Android listing date was reset, or whether it used a different package name before July: unverified.

- Whether ratings are being bought with coins (which would violate Play policy and risk removal): unverified.

- How much of Galixo's total ad budget goes to GetOTP: unknown. Only 123 creatives I could identify as landing pages were previewed, and 4 of them were GetOTP.

- OTP apps carry a risk of Google Play enforcement (they can be used for bulk account creation and promo abuse), so their lifespan is hard to predict.
