The soulmate app whose description names someone else: where StarGuide's 35k installs came from

What it is Enter your birthday and AI draws what your future partner looks like, then chats with you, pulls tarot, and reads your Vedic chart. Free, and it only makes money from ads.

Why it's popular The theme was already popularized by TikTok and US-store subscription apps. The distribution network behind it took existing code, shipped two packages from new accounts, and ran 12-second short videos on a Facebook page with only 8 followers. It appears to be buying traffic in cheap countries like the Philippines, India, and Latin America, and recovering costs through AdMob.

DHow you can follow it Don't build a fifth free soulmate-portrait app. Teams already running buy-traffic arbitrage can take two things from it: the product-selection method (wait until the theme is educated by others, then ship a free ad-supported version to cheap countries) and the structure of running parallel accounts on the same theme for testing.

D grade: the category is already crowded, with at least four clones of October. This is a smaller-volume tail clone among them. Its traction comes from the distribution network's templates, monetization accounts, and paid acquisition capacity, which followers can't access. The product itself has no differentiator worth copying. Few people know about it yet

StarGuide: Love & Astrology is a free Google Play app that enters your birthday and has AI draw "your future partner." It logged 35k installs in its first month with zero ratings. The first sentence of its store description names a different app. It isn't a hit from a small team; it's a package spread out by a new account in an app distribution network. Anyone thinking of following should see clearly that the category is saturated and this app offers no advantage you could take.

a Facebook page with only 8 followers

On Oct 19, 2026 at 5:13, a Facebook page called "StarGuide: Love & Astrology" posted a 12-second vertical video titled "Create Your Soulmate," with a single line of caption:

Use This App to Meet Your Dream Partner

"Meet your dream partner with this app." By 11-06 the video had 2K views and 11 likes. 10-22 and 10-26 saw several similar posts, each getting a few thousand views. The page has 8 followers in total.

A page with 8 followers whose videos consistently draw thousands of views, with posting dates that fall exactly in the week its installs went from 4 thousand to 11k (10-21 to 10-26). The most plausible explanation is that the page itself is an identity used for Meta ad spend, and the videos are ad creatives rather than content for followers (inference; no ad library record of its campaigns was found).

What it is

The Google Play page is marked "Contains ads" with no in-app purchases. The feature list is a ready-made combination:

  • Enter name, birth date, time, and place. AI draws a "soulmate" portrait with personality, strengths and weaknesses, and "where you might meet them."
  • Chat with this AI soulmate.
  • Draw tarot, then ask an AI astrologer.
  • View a Vedic chart.

Each section is followed by a disclaimer: "the portrait does not point to any real person" and "the AI astrologer is not a real person."

Oddly, the first sentence of the description reads: "Discover an AI-powered soulmate experience with AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch," and it ends with "Download AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch to create your AI soulmate profile" (Play store page, 11-06). Throughout StarGuide's description, it promotes another app.

It's the same team as AstroLuna

AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch does exist. Its developer is Fusion Flow Tech, and it launched on the same day as StarGuide (10-07), with an identical feature list. The two descriptions aren't word-for-word the same, so one didn't copy the other. It looks more like one internal project called "AstroLuna" that shipped two packages under two developer accounts, with one copy that never got renamed.

What links the two sides is a file outsiders rarely check: app-ads.txt (the list on a developer's website declaring which ad accounts may sell its ad inventory). StarGuide's developer, NexLayer Limited, has a website at nexlayer.biz whose homepage redirects straight to this file. The same-named files of four other developers, Fusion Flow Tech, Hypernova, LeafMotion, and Ahc Foundation, are byte-for-byte identical: each has 4,915 lines authorizing the same 85 AdMob accounts (11-06 crawl comparison). All five sites are hosted on Vercel, and each homepage only redirects to this one file.

Google Play developer data, 11-06. Whether the five are the same company cannot be confirmed, but ad revenue flows through the same set of accounts.

NexLayer is the newest of the group: Hong Kong company registration shows it was incorporated in 14 2026 July. It has only two live apps: StarGuide, and Jyotiva: AI Astrology & Tarot, which launched the next day (same features, repositioned around Vedic astrology for India). Its portfolio also includes a short-drama app, DramaHit, which AppBrain records as removed by Google Play (10-18). A new account trying several themes at once can afford to lose one; that is the point of opening multiple accounts.

Google Play install count as of 11-06; before 10-26 the figures are third-party estimates.

It sat flat for a while, then jumped seven or eight thousand in a day, like a budget being raised one tier at a time (Play's counters themselves refresh in steps, so the shape is only a reference). It appeared only on the LIFESTYLE free category chart, never on the overall or Top Grossing charts. 10-29 it ranked #56 in the Philippines and #129 in India, along with Nigeria and South Africa. From 11-01, Nigeria, South Africa, and Brazil dropped off. 11-05 Mexico and Argentina appeared, then on 11-06 Mexico rose to #84 while the Philippines fell to 180. Charted countries appear and disappear in groups, which suggests the targeting region is being switched.

35k installs and not one rating. People who tap an ad, try it, and leave rarely come back to rate it.

Where the money comes from

Only ads. Each step (drawing the soulmate, pulling a tarot card, chatting) can show an ad. The spend goes to countries where installs are cheap: the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina. As long as the ad revenue from one install exceeds what it cost to buy, it can keep rolling. No public data on revenue, retention, or payback exists.

This category is already crowded

"Enter your birthday and AI draws your partner" wasn't invented by StarGuide. Since 2025 it has been an established hit category on TikTok, with articles covering the trend and apps openly recruiting creators to make videos.

The leaders already earn money from subscriptions in the US. October has at least four "free + ads + cheap countries" versions appearing at once, and StarGuide is one of the smaller-volume ones. Searching its name on TikTok turns up no content at all, and nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 30 days. It is itself a follower, and no one is following it.

If it were you

Verdict: D. Know about it, but don't follow it. It's a tail clone in a crowded category. Its traction comes from the network behind it: ready-made code templates, shared ad monetization accounts, disposable sock-puppet accounts, and a paid acquisition team. A would-be follower can't take any of that.

Who it's for: teams already running "tool / entertainment app buy-traffic, recover costs through AdMob." For you, it's just another theme. The structure is what's worth noting: one project ships two packages under two accounts on the same day, one targeting Latin America and the Philippines, the other India, and you add budget wherever it pays back.

Who it's not for: anyone hoping to win with a prettier soulmate portrait (here the product isn't the deciding factor; the contemporaries are nearly identical). Anyone who can't run paid acquisition and is counting on store search and organic installs (35k installs with zero ratings means organic reach is close to nil). Anyone wanting a subscription (the US subscription slot is already held by Amora and Nebula, and ChatGPT and Gemini can draw portraits for free).

How to do it: if you're already running buy-traffic arbitrage, don't build a fifth free soulmate-portrait app. Taking two things is enough: first, the selection method: wait until TikTok and US-store subscription apps have educated the audience on a theme, then ship a free ad-supported version to cheap countries. Second, the account structure: spread developer accounts out and concentrate monetization accounts, so one banned account doesn't hurt the whole operation.

How to acquire users: this category runs on paid acquisition. Open a new Facebook page dedicated to creatives, use a 12-second vertical hook like "Create Your Soulmate," buy cheap traffic in the Philippines, India, and Latin America, and push for the LIFESTYLE category chart to pick up some organic installs on the side (inference).

Before when: no deadline; clones keep multiplying every week.

What would mean I got it wrong: (1) if StarGuide or AstroLuna gets hundreds of genuine ratings before December and installs keep rising by tens of thousands a week, that means it has organic retention and isn't just bought; worth a second look. (2) If a natively made Spanish-language soulmate sketch appears (Spanish creatives, local creators, not a translation) and stays in the top 30 of Mexico's LIFESTYLE chart for a long stretch, that Latin American slot may be open, and whoever makes local content has a chance. (3) Conversely, if NexLayer's two apps get removed or stop updates during November, this traffic didn't pay back, and the buy-traffic route shouldn't be touched either.

  • Inferred Facebook / Instagram short videos (likely Meta ads): the Facebook Page "StarGuide: Love & Astrology" (id 61595344920170) has only 8 followers, yet at least 4 12-second "Create Your Soulmate" videos (10-19 / 10-22 / 10-26), 1K–2K views each, timed right when installs rose from 10-21 thousand to 10-26K on 4→11; the metaads library didn't track them

StarGuide: Love & Astrology (Google Play, com.starguide.soulmate.astrology): how it got traction

Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our googleplay library (app / app_snap / app_day_ext / chart_rank / app_profile / developer), the metaads library, the Google Play store page (read via Jina), the app-ads.txt files of 5 developer domains including nexlayer.biz (fetched and compared 2026-11-06), public Facebook pages, ltddir.com (Hong Kong company registry), AppBrain, TikHub (TikTok search), x-radar. Reports on sister apps in the same library: out/play_com.jyotiva.ai.vedic.astrology.md, out/play_com.astroluna.soulmatesketch.astrology.md, out/play_com.ai.astrology.horoscope.md.

Bottom line

Strictly speaking, it didn't "break out." It's a reskinned app under a new shell account from an ad-monetized app publishing network (NexLayer Limited, a Hong Kong company registered 2026-07-14). It shares the same code and features as AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch from Fusion Flow Tech, a sister app in the same network that launched the same day (10-07), and its store description still names "AstroLuna". It borrows a topic already educated on TikTok by Amora, Nebula and Starla, "AI soulmate portraits." It runs 12-second short-video creatives on Facebook Pages, buys traffic in cheap countries like the Philippines, India, Mexico and Argentina, and recovers the spend through AdMob ads. 35K installs is the long tail for this category.

1. Basic data

  • Developer: NexLayer Limited, website nexlayer.biz (the homepage redirects 307 to /app-ads.txt), email [email protected] (googleplay.app; store page). Hong Kong company registration: private company limited by shares, registered 2026-07-14 (https://www.ltddir.com/companies/nexlayer-limited/).
  • This account currently has only 2 apps on Play: StarGuide (10-07) and Jyotiva: AI Astrology & Tarot (10-08), together 62,092 installs (googleplay.developer; Play developer page 2026-11-06). The data card recall that the other app is the short drama DramaHit is inaccurate: DramaHit : Short Reels (com.dramahit.short.reels) does belong to NexLayer, but according to AppBrain it was removed from Google Play on 10-18 (https://www.appbrain.com/app/dramahit-short-reels/com.dramahit.short.reels). AppBrain's new-app charts have also shown NexLayer-linked apps such as the BitChord MP3 player and Impress AI outfit styling (not verified whether still live), a typical "one account testing several topics at once" pattern.
  • Store fields: free, no in-app purchases (offers_iap=False), ad-supported (ad_supported=True; store page reads "Contains ads"); version 1.0.1 → 11-05, upgraded to 1.0.3 (googleplay.app_snap).
  • Installs (global cumulative): | Date | Cumulative | Notes | |---|---|---| | 10-21 | 3,935 | AppstoreSpy estimate, tracking begins | | 10-23 | 6,851 | AppstoreSpy estimate | | 10-26 | 11,038 | AppstoreSpy estimate | | 10-27 → 10-31 | 11,043 | Our observation, flat for 5 days | | 11-01 | 19,807 | +8,764 | | 11-02 | 27,262 | +7,455 | | 11-03 | 30,066 | +2,804 | | 11-05 | 34,880 | +4,814 (including 11-04) | | 11-06 | 34,880 | 0 | Source: googleplay.app_snap / app_day_ext. About 4 thousand installs within two weeks of launch, then a staircase of "flat for a while, then jumps of several thousand", matching a paid-acquisition pattern where budget is raised one tier at a time (Play counts also refresh in buckets, so only the shape is indicative).
  • Charts: only ever on the LIFESTYLE free category chart, never the overall or top-grossing charts (googleplay.chart_rank): 10-29 Philippines 56, India 129, Nigeria 143, South Africa 172; 10-30/31 Brazil added; from 11-01 Nigeria / South Africa / Brazil dropped off; 11-05 Mexico (145) and Argentina (177) newly appeared, and by 11-06 Mexico rose to 84 and Argentina to 120, while the Philippines fell to 180. Charted countries appear and disappear in groups, like the ad targeting geography is being switched.
  • Ratings: the US store has no rating, and the library holds zero reviews. 35K installs and 0 ratings suggest users tapped an ad to try it, not that they went looking for it.

2. It's the same team as AstroLuna: evidence of a publishing network

  1. The store description names someone else's app: StarGuide's description opens with "Discover an AI-powered soulmate experience with AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch" and ends with "Download AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch to create your AI soulmate profile…" (Play store page, gl=mx). AstroLuna: Soulmate Sketch is an app from Fusion Flow Tech (com.astroluna.soulmatesketch.astrology), and it launched on the same 2026-10-07. The two descriptions are worded differently (StarGuide 2,581 characters, AstroLuna 2,406 characters, not copied word for word), but the feature lists match: soulmate portraits, chatting with an AI soulmate, tarot, Vedic astrology. It looks more like one project (working name AstroLuna) shipping two builds under two developer accounts than an outside team copying it.
  2. app-ads.txt byte-for-byte identical: I 2026-11-06 pulled app-ads.txt from five developer domains: nexlayer.biz, fusion-flow.co, hypernova.ltd, leafmotion-software.vercel.app and ahc-foundation-inc.vercel.app. All five have 4,915 lines, and the content is exactly the same (the md5 of nexlayer and fusion-flow match; the other three differ only by a BOM at the start of the file). All of them authorize the same set of 85 AdMob publisher IDs (82 lines for google.com) and 60 lines for programmatic ad networks such as Facebook. All five sites are hosted on Vercel, and their homepages redirect straight to /app-ads.txt.
  3. Network scale (googleplay library, aggregated by developer domain, 2026-11-06):
AccountApp count (in library)Total installs7 new in the last dayEarliest / latest launch
Fusion Flow Tech(fusion-flow.co)741.1M297k2025-07 / 2026-10-07

Ahc Foundation Inc73.69M139k2026-07 / 2026-10-29
NexLayer Limited262k47k2026-10-07 / 10-08

26 apps in total, about 78M installs. Fortune-telling apps the network has already scaled include NakshAI (Fusion Flow, 1.23M) and Astro AI: Tarot & Horoscope (Ahc, 2.64M; another of our reports confirms its advertiser is Hong Kong's HYPERNOVA LIMITED). NexLayer is the newest account in this network, and StarGuide and Jyotiva are its first apps. (Whether the five accounts share the same legal entity is unverified; "sharing one app-ads.txt" at least shows ad monetization runs through the same accounts.)

3. Competitors: a crowded category

4. Growth tactics

ChannelEvidenceConfirmed?
Facebook / Instagram short-video adsA Facebook Page called "StarGuide: Love & Astrology" (id 61595344920170) has only 8 followers, but it has posted at least 4 videos of about 12 seconds each titled "Create Your Soulmate," all with the caption "Use This App to Meet Your Dream Partner." Post dates include 10-19, 10-22, 10-26 and more, with 1K–2K views per video (public Facebook page, read via Jina 2026-11-06). A Page with 8 followers shouldn't pull thousands of views, and the dates line up exactly with the days installs climbed from 4 to 11K (10-21 → 10-26). The most likely explanation is that the Page is being used as the identity for Meta ads. The same network runs NakshAI, which also uses persona Pages on Meta to push short videos (see the NakshAI report). The metaads library doesn't track this Page (it only covers a fixed watchlist), so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't running ads.Partly confirmed (the Page and creatives exist; whether they were paid and how much is unverified)

Store searchPackage name / short description stuffed with soulmate, astrology, tarot, Vedic; category charts ranks 56–193 may carry a small amount of organic trafficNo (share unknown)
X / media / Redditx-radar: 30 posts in the last 0 days; web hits are only auto-aggregator pages like AppBrain, chrome-stats, CNET DownloadNone

How the money comes back: there is no paywall. Every step where users finish a soulmate sketch, pull a tarot card, or chat can carry an ad. Installs are bought in the Philippines, India, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, low-install-cost countries, so the loop works as long as ad revenue per install beats acquisition cost. No ROI data.

5. Differentiation

  • Against the leaders (Amora, Nova Match, and on iOS Nebula / Starla): it is free with no paywall and uses ads instead, which sells to low-willingness-to-pay users in Latin America, Southeast Asia, India and Africa. On features it stacks profiling, an AI soulmate chat, tarot and Vedic astrology, with more ad slots.
  • Against the same network's AstroLuna and Jyotiva: there is almost no difference. Same codebase, same features, only the package name, icon, selling point and target countries change.
  • This is not why it took off. At the same time AstroLuna, MoonPhase and Palmora ran the exact same "free + ads + low-cost countries" play, with similar or even higher volume. Its 35k installs come from the network's ready-made template, ad monetization accounts and acquisition capacity, plus a topic that others had already taught audiences to want on TikTok.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: few people know about it. Revenue is not public, there is no press or X discussion, and no TikTok content from it. The only public content is its own Facebook Page with 8 followers.
  • Copycatting: it is itself a copycat. The same "free ad-supported soulmate sketch" appeared from at least 4 studios in October (AstroLuna, StarGuide, Jyotiva, MoonPhase), and we saw no sign of anyone specifically copying StarGuide.

7. What to borrow

  • The network's parallel testing of same-theme apps across multiple accounts: the same project (AstroLuna) shipped two packages under two developer accounts on the same day, one aimed at Latin America + the Philippines, one at India (Jyotiva). Whichever pays back gets more budget, and new accounts spread out the risk of bans (NexLayer's DramaHit was already delisted on 10-18).
  • "US-store subscription category → free ad-supported version → sell to low-cost countries": wait until TikTok educates the market on the theme, swap the paywall for ads, and make the margin on cheap traffic.
  • Cheap creative identity: open a new Facebook Page just to post 12-second "Create Your Soulmate" vertical videos as ad creatives, with no need to grow an audience.
  • One app-ads.txt covers a whole set of accounts: centralized monetization accounts with scattered developer accounts is the standard structure of a tool-app factory.

8. Uncertain

  • Whether it was paid, and how much, has no direct ad library record (neither metaads nor googleads tracked it). Facebook view counts only show exposure, not that the videos were ads.
  • Whether the five accounts (NexLayer, Fusion Flow, Hypernova, LeafMotion, Ahc) belong to one company is unverified. We only confirmed they share one app-ads.txt (the same AdMob / Facebook monetization accounts).
  • No data on ad revenue, retention or ROI; rated 0, retention is probably poor.
  • Play install counts refresh in bands, so part of the stepped shape may come from the counter. AppstoreSpy daily deltas are averaged, so only the trend is reliable.
  • Whether other NexLayer apps such as BitChord and Impress are still live has not been verified.
