Searching the official name turns up an agent: an Istanbul English school has pushed study-abroad recruiting into the Turkmenistan overall chart

What it is An application app from a Turkish study-abroad agency: it looks up private Turkish universities, handles documents and tracks progress, with no commission charged to students, mainly recruiting Central Asian students.

Why it took off Its name matches the official "Study in Türkiye", so Central Asian students searching the official name land on it; the store has no real competitors, and zero commission, tuition paid directly to universities and a $100–500 cash-back hook, all landing right in the 2027 spring intake application season.

CHow you could follow it If you already run an agency or can share commissions with one, pick a "destination × source country" pairing the big platforms don't cover, grab the empty study-abroad keywords in those small-country stores, and build a thin app that collects leads, with revenue coming from university commissions.

C grade: the playbook is clear and worth studying, but this is an agency business: it needs university agency contracts and manual follow-up, which the person writing the app doesn't get; its installs have zero ratings and a lot of padding, and riding the official name carries takedown risk. Hardly anyone knows about it yet

An English training school in Istanbul that's been running for about 30 years built an app for its study-abroad agency business and named it "Study in Türkiye", identical to the official study-abroad brand promoted by Turkey's Council of Higher Education. Launched 11 weeks ago, it has 115k installs on Google Play, ranked #19 on the Turkmenistan Play overall chart in Nov 6, but its rating count is 0. What it sells isn't software; it has moved the first step of agency recruiting into the app store. Below: how it grabs this entry point, where the money comes from, how much of those installs is padding, and what you can take from it.

Nov 6, searching "going to Turkey for school" in Turkmenistan

Nov 6, searching "учеба в турции" (Russian for studying in Turkey) in the Google Play Turkmenistan store, the first result was one app: Study in Türkiye & Abroad, with the developer name listed as "STUDY IN TÜRKİYE". Searching the same term in the Uzbekistan store, and the English "study in turkey" in the US and Turkmenistan stores, also put it first.

That same day, it ranked #2 on the Turkmenistan Play free Education chart and #19 on the overall app chart, and #12 to #13 on the Uzbekistan Education chart (public chart pages on appfigures, 11-06). In its home market of Turkey it only ranked #40 on the free Education chart.

"Study in Türkiye" is originally the official study-abroad brand of Turkey's Council of Higher Education (YÖK), with the website studyinturkiye.gov.tr linked from the sites of Turkish public universities. A Central Asian student who hears "go to Turkey for school, use Study in Türkiye" and searches the app store for it lands on this company. Its blog even states "independent private platform, not affiliated with the official one", so they know the name collision is happening.

Who it is, and what's in the app

The full seller name on iOS is NAS ÖZEL EĞİTİM BASIM YAYIN AJANS TURİZM…LTD. ŞTİ., publicly branded English Park, an English training school in Şirinevler, Istanbul, registered under Turkey's Ministry of Education for 1996 years. Scrolling back through the TikTok account @studyinturkiyecomtr, April's posts this year were still enrollment videos for "English Park teaching you English", and from August they became "English Park EDU helps you apply to Turkish universities".

The app itself is very thin. The store description lists: look up universities, filter programs by degree level / teaching language / duration / tuition, upload passport and transcripts, submit applications, track progress, and "submit an application in as little as 2 minutes". ApplyBoard and Edvoy offer all of this, nothing new.

The two biggest lines on the store page are something else:

ZERO COMMISSION • OFFICIAL PRICE. Students enroll at the officially published university tuition, with tuition paid directly into the university's official bank account, with no tuition flowing between the student and the company.

Listed on Google Play in 2026-08-19, on iOS in 8-28; from 10-28 to 11-04 it shipped 1.3.1 to 1.3.6 versions, close to one update a day.

Where users come from: one keyword, one cash-back offer, one group of agents

Keywords are free wins. As noted above, the name, developer name and package name (com.study.in.turkiye) all bank on the official brand, and it ranks #1 across several stores and in both Russian and English searches. Confirmed.

Cashback turns "consultation" into "install the app first." On Sep 1, this TikTok account posted a video in Uzbek and Turkish: "Want up to $500 in education grants when applying to Turkish universities? Pick your university in the Study in Turkiye App, tuition goes straight to the university, and you get $100 to $500 depending on your application outcome. Just download the app." English Park Edu's Facebook also says "Download the App and register today… $100 USD." The video itself got only 294 views (TikTok, 11-06). The hook is good, but clearly the spread doesn't come from this account alone.

Its own social media can't carry this volume. The account has 5,213 followers and 76 videos. The two most viewed are from Aug 11, at 160k and 58k views, pitched as "university tuition from $1,400, free applications, free residence permit help." At that time the app wasn't live yet, and viewers were sent to a web portal. Most of the rest have under a thousand views.

The real volume most likely comes from agents and paid ads (inference). The store description includes the line "authorized partners and education consultancies also have accounts," and the website has a "become our agent" entry point. TikTok in Turkmenistan is full of local study-abroad agencies (akyol.academy, alazim.academy, tmgroup_consulting…), with single videos getting 10k to 380k views. The most common topic is "which universities accept payment through Turkmen banks" (one akyol.academy video got 105k views). These agencies only have short videos and WhatsApp, no app. If they use this app to register students and collect documents, that would produce large numbers of installs that never get rated. No evidence of paid acquisition was found: the Meta Ad Library returns nothing by brand or domain, and Facebook and Instagram are blocked locally in Turkmenistan. Google App ads are cheap in Central Asia and are the most likely channel, but this is unverified.

115k installs, 0 ratings

The install curve looks like this (Google Play installs; figures before mid-October are third-party estimates):

DateTotal installs
10-08about 7,100 (est.)
10-20about 48,600 (est.)
10-2974,268
11-03109,319
11-05115,227

Over the last 7 days it added 40,959 installs, averaging over four thousand a day, climbing step by step with no single day exploding. This doesn't look like word of mouth. It looks like someone pushing it with a budget.

The ratings are stranger. As of Nov 6, the app has zero ratings on Google Play. On iOS, it has only 26 ratings in the Turkey store, averaging 5.0. The website says "4.9 rating on App Store and Google Play," which doesn't match the stores. 110k+ installs with zero ratings means either people install it and barely use it (the app doesn't prompt for reviews), or agents are installing in bulk and incentivized. Those 115k installs can't be read as 115k students. It looks more like an agency's lead funnel moved into the app store.

As for why October: 10 to November is the application window for Turkish private universities' spring 2027 intake, and at the same time Meta is full of "Spring 2027 admissions open" fair ads. Its growth ramp lines up with application season.

Where the money comes from

Students pay nothing; "zero commission" means the company takes no money from students. There are two revenue streams:

  • Enrollment commissions from universities. Paying commissions to recruitment agents is standard practice for Turkish private (vakıf) universities. Its contracts aren't public and the rate is unknown. Roughly estimated from tuition starting at $1,400 and typical industry rates, each enrolled student could bring it several hundred to over a thousand dollars (inference). The $100 to $500 cashback is a slice of that commission returned to the student.
  • Value-added service packages. The website lists five tiers: residence permits, lawyer review, translation, insurance, airport pickup, housing, bank account opening, diploma recognition. The top tier includes 50 hours of one-on-one English lessons, which is the parent company's core business. All prices are listed as "negotiable."

So the math works like this: if even a few hundred of the 110k installs actually enroll, the business holds up. The app doesn't need retention or in-app purchases. It only needs to be first when a student searches.

Who it's competing with

Almost nobody, at least not in the app stores.

  • ABC Future - Study in Turkey: launched 2021 years ago. It's also a Turkish study-abroad agency app with 16k installs, but its name doesn't use official keywords, it has no zero-commission or cashback pitch, and it has long stalled.
  • ApplyBoard, Edvoy, Leverage Edu, Yocket: big platforms with hundreds of thousands to millions of installs, but they focus on sending Indian and South Asian students to the US, UK, Canada and Australia. They don't handle Turkish private universities or Central Asian students.
  • Official Study in Türkiye / Türkiye Bursları: provides information and scholarships but doesn't recruit students for private universities.
  • Other Turkish agencies (studyinturkiye.com, Tri-Star, Imtiyaz, etc.) and local Turkmen agencies: they acquire students through websites, fairs, Meta ads, TikTok and WhatsApp. None has taken over app store search.

It has also gone largely unnoticed: no media coverage, zero mentions on X in 90 days, no public revenue, and no copycats spotted.

If it were you

C. This is an agency business, and the app is just its acquisition channel. What's worth learning is the playbook: in cross-border services, find an empty official program name in the store, use it as a keyword, and build a thin app to collect leads. Copying it directly isn't worth it. You first need agency contracts with universities and someone to follow up on student paperwork, and writing code doesn't solve that. Its install numbers are also padded, and riding an official name risks complaints and delisting.

Who it's for: teams already running study-abroad, immigration, visa or overseas medical agencies, or developers who can negotiate revenue share with such agencies; anyone fluent in a minority language from Central Asia, Africa or South Asia.

Who it's not for: indie devs who want to earn through in-app purchases or subscriptions (the student side here pays nothing); people without B2B contracts who can't negotiate commissions; anyone aiming at US, UK, Canada or Australia study (that's the big platforms' turf).

How to do it: start by picking an empty "destination × source country" slot that big platforms ignore: low-tuition destinations like Malaysia, Hungary, Northern Cyprus or Georgia, paired with students from Central Asia, Africa or South Asia. Search the Play stores of those countries in the local language for "study in X"; if the top result is empty or an abandoned app, that's your opening. The app only needs to do three things: look up schools, submit documents, and track progress. Put "money that never passes through us" in the headline of the store page: tuition goes directly to the school, and part of the school's commission goes back to the student as cashback. Before using an official destination-country study brand name, think through how you'd handle complaints. Safer is a non-identical name like "[Country] Study + your brand."

How to acquire users: store search is the free half; the other half is turning existing local agencies into your agents, giving them accounts so they can register students in your app, and paying them per enrollment. Small-country stores have low barriers: a few thousand installs a day can get you into the top 20 of the overall chart, and the chart itself brings visibility. Google App ads are cheap in these countries and can be tested with a small budget (inference).

Timing: Turkish and Malaysian private universities recruit twice a year, and the autumn intake application peak runs from 5 to August. To catch the 2027 autumn intake, launch by April, lock in keywords and sign the first batch of agents.

Signs you've got it wrong: ① It gets delisted from Google Play or forced to rename, meaning the official-name route doesn't work. ② Installs keep climbing to hundreds of thousands while ratings stay in single digits, meaning the volume is manufactured rather than students. ③ Two or three months later updates stop and TikTok goes quiet, meaning agents decided the channel wasn't worth it. ④ The reverse: other Turkish agencies start renaming to "Study in Türkiye…" and launching their own apps, meaning the channel really does bring students, but the window is closing.

  • Confirmed Store search + official brand name match: the app name and developer name are both Study in Türkiye. 11-06 Tested "study in turkey" in the Play US and Turkmen stores, and "учеба в турции" in the Turkmen and Uzbek stores. It ranks #1 in all of them.

Why Study in Türkiye & Abroad (com.study.in.turkiye) took off

Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our googleplay library (app / app_snap / chart_rank / app_day_ext; historical figures marked "AppstoreSpy estimate" come from AppstoreSpy), live Google Play store search (queried in real time via google-play-scraper), public appfigures chart pages, iTunes lookup, TikHub (TikTok), the Meta Ad Library website, x-radar, and the product's website.

One line

It is a study-abroad agency run by English Park, an established English-language training school in Istanbul (company NAS Özel Eğitim…Ltd. Şti., registered under Turkey's Ministry of Education since 1996), which packaged its enrollment portal as an app. It mainly sells Turkish private (vakıf) universities to Central Asian students, most from Turkmenistan and then Uzbekistan. It took off because three things stacked: its name matches the official "Study in Türkiye" brand, so it takes the top spot in store search; there is no real app competitor in the Central Asian market; and the hook of "zero commission + tuition paid directly to the university + $100–$500 cashback". Growth began in mid-October, with a steady four-plus thousand installs a day, yet ratings stayed at zero. That looks more like paid acquisition or agents pushing installs than word of mouth.

1. Data: how much did it actually grow?

  • Listings: Google Play 2026-08-19, iOS 2026-08-28 (iTunes lookup, seller: NAS OZEL EGITIM BASIM YAYIN AJANS TURIZM SANAYI VE TICARET LIMITED SIRKETI).
  • Install curve (AppstoreSpy estimates plus our own observations): 10-08 about 7,100 → 10-13 about 22,700 → 10-20 about 48,600 → 10-26 about 74,300 → 11-03 109,319 → 11-05 115,227. From 10-20 on, it averaged over four thousand a day, adding 40,959 in the last 7 days (googleplay.app_profile). The curve is a flat, step-like climb with no sudden spike, more like a sustained budget-driven campaign or field promotion than viral spread.
  • Ratings: Google Play still shows 11-06 with 0 ratings (app_snap is empty every day; the live fetch returns None). 115k installs and not a single rating is very rare: either almost nobody uses it after installing and the app never prompts for a review, or the installs are incentivized or bulk-installed by an agent. On iOS, only the Turkey store has 26 ratings, averaging 5.0 stars. Meanwhile the official site says "4.9 rating on App Store & Google Play" (studyinturkiye.com.tr/mobil-uygulama/), which doesn't match the store data.
  • Versions: between 10-28 and 11-04 it shipped six versions, 1.3.1→1.3.6, almost one a day. The team is iterating at high intensity.
  • Rankings (our database only covers 30 stores): Turkey Education Top Free #40–64, Canada Education Top Free #160–189. Our database doesn't cover Central Asia, and that's where the real action is: appfigures 11-06 shows it at #2 in Education Top Free on Google Play in Turkmenistan and #19 overall (the other page shows #17 / #23, which changes over time), #12–13 in the Uzbekistan Education chart, and #25 in the Bulgaria Education chart (appfigures.com/top-apps/google-play/turkmenistan/education, /top-overall, /uzbekistan/education, /bulgaria/education). The Google Play market in Turkmenistan is tiny: a few thousand installs a day is enough to crack the overall top 20, which matches the roughly 4k daily increase.

The competition is all on TikTok and offline. Nobody has taken the app store slot.

3. Where users come from (growth tactics)

  1. Store search + borrowed brand name (confirmed): the app is called "Study in Türkiye & Abroad", the developer name is "STUDY IN TÜRKİYE", and the package name is com.study.in.turkiye. "Study in Türkiye" is the official brand of Turkey's Council of Higher Education (YÖK) at studyinturkiye.gov.tr, and public university websites link to it. Users who search for the official name find this app, and searches in several stores and languages put it first. Its own blog says it is an "independent private platform, not affiliated with the official government program" (studyinturkiye.com.tr/blog/…), which shows they know about the name overlap.
  2. Cash-back / incentive (confirmed campaign): TikTok @studyinturkiyecomtr video 2026-09-01 (in Uzbek and Turkish): "Pick your university through the Study in Turkiye app and pay tuition straight to the school. Get a 100 to 500 USD education grant once you're admitted, just download the app." English Park Edu's Facebook also reads "Download the Study in Türkiye app and register today…100 USD Education…" They also ran a "first 30 lucky students" promo. These hooks turn consultations into "install the app first."
  3. Agent / partner channel (partly confirmed): the store description says "authorized partners and education consultancies also have accounts", and the official site has a "become our agent" entry point (portal.studyinturkiye.com.tr). Central Asian local agencies are numerous. If they use this app to create student profiles and upload documents, that would generate large numbers of installs. Those users wouldn't leave ratings, which would explain "high installs, zero ratings". I couldn't find out how many agents there are.
  4. Owned social accounts (confirmed, but small): TikTok account has 5,213 followers and 76 videos. Of these, the two "apply for university" videos got 160k and 58k views respectively, and most others have under a thousand. The Facebook page has 1.7K followers, and English Park Edu has 1.1K. That can't support 8-11 installs a day.
  5. Paid ads (unconfirmed): our metaads and googleads databases haven't tracked it. Searching the Meta Ad Library by domain and brand also turned up no ads. Facebook and Instagram are blocked in Turkmenistan, so Meta ads have little value there. Google App Campaigns (UAC) are cheap in Central Asia and are the most likely paid channel, but I found no evidence, so I'm marking it unverified.
  6. Media / X: x-radar shows no mentions in 90 days. It hasn't been covered by the press.

4. Why users come now, and why they stay or pay

  • The demand is real and concentrated: nearly 30% of Turkmen students studying abroad went to Turkey (statistics cited in the Instagram post DXUZMMbCK3e). On TikTok, Turkmen-language "Türkiýede okamak" (study in Turkey) content is plentiful, with many agents, and it's lively. The pain points cluster around two things: how to send tuition out of Turkmenistan through banks (a video by @akyol.academy on "which universities accept tuition paid via Turkmen banks" has 105k views), and fear of agents cheating them. The app pitches "zero commission, tuition paid directly to the university's official account, no money passes through the company", which speaks right to the trust problem.
  • Timing: October to November is the application window for the spring (2027 February) intake at Turkish private universities. Meta Ad Library shows a flood of "Spring 2027 admissions open" fair ads over the same period (Tri-Star's 11-15 Karachi fair, etc.). Its growth curve lines up with this application season.
  • Where the money comes from: free for students. Revenue has two parts: (1) commissions paid by Turkish private universities to recruitment agents. This is standard in the industry. "Zero commission" means they don't charge students, not that they have no income. I inferred this from industry norms; I haven't seen their contracts. (2) Value-added service bundles (studyinturkiye.com.tr/paketlerimiz/): five tiers, covering residence permits, lawyer review, translation, insurance, airport pickup, accommodation, bank account opening and diploma recognition. The top tier includes 50 hours of one-on-one English tutoring, which is the parent company's core business. Prices are negotiable. The 100–500 USD cashback is a slice of the university commission given back to students. One student's commission could be over a thousand dollars (private university tuition starts around 1,400 USD, and the industry commission rate is a rough estimate), so the math works even if only a small share of the 110k installs ever enroll.

5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

  • The product features (searching universities, comparing programs, uploading documents, tracking progress) aren't new. ApplyBoard and Edvoy both have them.
  • Three things are really different: (1) it holds the official brand name as a keyword, collecting free traffic from store search; (2) the destination + audience combination is an open gap: Turkish private universities × Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan), plus Arab, Persian and Bengali markets. The official site lists 28 source countries and more than a dozen languages, including Turkmen, Uzbek, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Persian and Bengali. The big platforms don't serve this segment, and local agents don't build apps; (3) it makes "zero commission + paid directly to the university + cashback" the headline selling point on the store page, a strong hook for a market where trust is lacking.
  • These points are why it took off, but discount them: "115k installs, zero ratings" shows installs are not the same as active users. Much of its "growth" may simply be an agent's lead funnel moved into the app store, not users actively choosing it.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Revenue isn't public. No press coverage, 0 mentions on X, and a small TikTok presence. Almost nobody knows about it; only people in the Turkish study-abroad agency circle are paying attention.
  • Copycats: I haven't seen anyone copy the "official name + app + zero commission" combination yet. studyinturkiye.com, an agency with the same name, runs on websites and agent recruitment and has been around for a while, so it doesn't count as a copycat.

7. What others can borrow

  • In the "agency / services" category, look for keywords left empty in the app store (especially official program or policy names), and build a thin app whose only job is lead generation, turning store search into a free lead source.
  • In cross-border services where trust is scarce, make "money that doesn't pass through us" the headline selling point. Collect revenue from the B-side (university commissions) and return part of it to the C-side as incentives.
  • Pick the "destination × source country" combinations that big platforms skip, such as Turkey, Malaysia, Hungary or Cyprus as destinations, paired with students from Central Asia, Africa and South Asia, localized in their minority languages. Small countries have low chart thresholds, so it's easy to crack the overall top chart and gain extra exposure.

8. Still unclear

  • Which countries the installs come from: appfigures rankings point strongly to Turkmenistan, but there are no per-country install numbers.
  • Whether there was paid acquisition, and through which channel: neither the Meta nor Google ad libraries show any.
  • Why the ratings are zero (incentives / bulk agent installs, or the app never prompts for reviews), and how many of the 110k installs actually applied or enrolled.
  • University commission rates and package prices (the website says "negotiable").
  • Whether the "Study in Türkiye" name overlap has drawn an official complaint or carries any risk of removal.
