# The store page says "no live streaming", but users are there for live streams: "سوريا لايف", 290k installs in two months

**What it is** On the surface, an Arabic football fixtures and scores app. In reality, it's the Android skin of the pirate streaming site "Syria Live", with a built-in live player, monetized through ads.

**Why it took off** The name "Syria Live" was already known among Syrians and Gulf football fans. People searched Play for it and found this package. On top of that, users of an older, delisted package from the same developer were forced to update and moved over, and small-country sports category charts have a low bar.

**D** **What you can take from it** Don't copy the streaming shell. What's transferable is the method: name things with terms people already search for, use server-side feature switches and forced updates to migrate old users, and aim for small-country category charts. Apply that to a compliant Arabic sports product.

Grade D: It sells pirated streams, and the traffic comes from a brand name and an old base of users that a follower can't get. Similar apps already hold half of Saudi Arabia's sports chart top 30, and packages get pulled monthly, so a follower only lands fifth place riding on the name. Few people know about this yet

An Arabic football app called "سوريا لايف" (Syria Live) was listed in Sep 9. By Nov 6 it had 290k installs on Google Play, gained 56k in the last week, and ranked #1 in the Jordan Sports Top Free chart and #2 in Saudi Arabia. The product itself has nothing new. It gets traffic because the name was already a pirate-streaming brand among Arab football fans, and this package is yet another skin of it on Play. Below: what it actually is, where users come from, where the money comes from, and why it isn't an opportunity worth following.

### "سوريا لايف 全是广告" ("Syria Live is all ads")

In Oct 22, a TikTok account called yo5f4 in Iraq posted a short video with one line: "و سوريا لايف كله اعلانات", meaning "and Syria Live, it's all ads", tagged #بث_مباريات (match streaming) and #برشلونة_وباريس (Barcelona vs PSG). By Nov 6 it had 366k views and 914 comments (TikTok, 11-06).

Almost no one in the comments discusses scores; they're all trading "where do I watch?" The most-liked comment (752 likes) asks: "Is there one that's 4K, 120 fps, and doesn't lag?" Someone says their home has a paid subscription, their brother wants to bring friends to watch the national derby, "where do I go?" Others name their sources: Majed Sport, Sir TV, Yalla Live, "الأسطورة" (Ostora). One replies "thank God, I have TOD", TOD being beIN's official paid platform.

That's this app's user base: they aren't checking the league table, they're looking for free live streams.

### The app as listed on the store vs. the app once installed

The Google Play description is clean: daily fixtures, scores, league tables, kickoff reminders, and a bolded final line, "This app does not provide any live match streams or external viewing links."

Unpacking its package from Nov 6 (v20) shows something else:

- Written in Flutter. The UI has a channels page, a live page, a player page, an iframe live page, and an external live web page. It bundles an HLS (m3u8) player and two WebView setups.

- On launch it reads a config file from a server, which has three switches: channels, live, and short video. In Nov 6 all three were off. The channels endpoint returned two empty lists, whose names match sources from two other pirate brands, Ostora and Yacine TV.

- The same config file contains a forced-update flag, with the text "to improve live stream stability".

- Fixture and score data comes from the Arabic scores site YSScores, with request headers copied from YSScores' official app. Its website, syria-scores.com, is also a re-skinned scores site, but its page title reads "Today's important matches live".

So the real product is those switches: off during review, turned on during matches (inferred; the switches were off when we checked, and we did not test during a live match). If it gets reported and removed, it changes the package name and comes back. This is the standard approach in the Arabic "kora (football) live streaming app" niche, not something it invented.

### Where the 290k installs came from

**First, the brand name.** "سوريا لايف / Syria Live" is the name of a long-running pirate streaming site on the Arabic web. Searching mirror sites turns up a string of them: syrialive.tv (has had an "official app download" page up for 2024 years), syrialive.buzz, syria-live.online, app.syr.live, plus a YouTube channel. When users search this term in Play, this package's name is exactly that term.

The user distribution fits too. Beyond the Gulf and the Levant, it also ranked #35 in Sweden's Sports Top Free, #41 in Germany, and #42 in the Netherlands (Google Play charts, 11-06). A purely Arabic app appearing in those three countries most likely means Syrian diaspora there are searching for the brand (inferred).

**Second, the old package's existing users.** The same developer, Ahmed Ali Halawa, has at least three other packages under the same name: com.syrialive.box (listed February 2026, 100k+ installs), online.syrialive.app (March, 100k+), and com.newsyrialive (100k+). All are now off Play (per the third-party ASO sites AppGoblin, AppBrain, and AppstoreSpy). The new package's version number starts at v19, continuing from the old ones, and the server's forced update points to the new package. Per third-party estimates, in Oct 3 it had only about 11.5k installs, then jumped to about 89k in a single day in Oct 4 (AppstoreSpy estimate). That jump most likely reflects a batch of old-package users being moved over at once (inferred; we did not verify which package was removed when).

**Third, small-country sports charts.** Sports free charts in countries like Jordan, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, and Yemen have a low bar. A few thousand installs can get you into the Top 5, and charting brings organic exposure. In Nov 6 it ranked #1 in Jordan Sports Free, #2 in Saudi Arabia and Sudan, and #3 in Lebanon (AppWinners).

Growth since then has come in steps: +45k in one day in Nov 1, and two to four thousand a day on other days (Google Play install counts, 10-29 to 11-06). Most of the jumps land on weekends of European leagues and the Saudi league, which fits the pattern of "searching for streams on match day" (inferred; not checked match by match). Play install counts are batch-refreshed every few days, so don't take single-day figures too seriously.

What I didn't find: press coverage, creator partnerships, or sizeable paid acquisition. The TikTok videos talking about it are all posted by fans themselves.

### Where the money comes from

Ads only, no in-app purchases. The package includes AdMob and Unity Ads, and the server also delivers a banner from the Adsterra family of ad networks, which are common among piracy and download sites. The opening "all ads" video is about exactly this.

Third-party estimates put it at about 96k monthly active users and under $10k in monthly revenue (AppGoblin estimate). The order of magnitude sounds credible, but it's an estimate.

One more number to watch: 1,342 ratings, none of them 4.90,1 to 3 stars, yet only 14 written reviews (Google Play, 11-06). The code includes an in-app rating prompt, so it probably only shows up for satisfied users, or ratings are being solicited (inferred, not verified).

### Who it's competing with

In the Saudi sports free chart Top 30, roughly half are apps of this type, a "fixtures shell + pirate brand name" (Google Play charts, 11-06):

| Product | Total installs / last 7 days | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Yacine TV(com.yacinetvapps.sportlive) | 7.93M / +385k | The top of this niche, 27 times its volume |
| Yacine TV (different developer, listed 2026-07) | 1.72M / +266k | Another skin of the same brand, growing faster |
| Yalla Shoot | 20.8M / +200k | Listed in 2023, an established player that has lasted |
| الأسطورة(Ostora) | 3M / +12k | Its channels endpoint sources point to this brand |
| Drama Live, KoraPlus | 840k and 470k / each up +50k+ | Same category at the same time, similar scale |
| سوريا لايف لجميع المباريات(Latino Dev,2026-04) | 284k | Others borrowing the same brand name, with similar volume |
| syria live سوريا لايف(Kaverix,2026-10) | 3,789 | New name-borrowers |

Legitimate scores apps (365Scores, Sofascore, FotMob, Dawry) have licensed data and don't pirate streams, and their users are a different crowd. Legal live streams (beIN SPORTS, TOD) cost money, which is exactly where piracy demand comes from.

It has no product differentiation. Its only edge is the name "Syria Live", and that name isn't exclusive to it. At least four other packages use it too.

### If it were you

**One-line verdict:** Don't follow it. It sells piracy, it gets traction through a brand name you can't have and a base of old users you don't have, and this niche is already crowded, with package lifespans measured in months.

**Who it's for:** Teams already building legitimate Arabic sports content or scores products. Come here to check three things: how big the demand from Arab football fans is, how valuable brand terms are in Play search, and how easy it is to chart in small-country category charts.

**Who it's not for:** Anyone who wants to copy a streaming shell. You don't have the brand name, four others already use the name, the sources have to come from other pirate brands, and getting hit with beIN complaints and Google removals is routine. This developer alone has switched to at least three packages this year. Anyone wanting a legitimate Arabic scores app should also think hard: 365Scores, Sofascore, and the newly launched Dawry (listed May 2026, 760k installs) already hold that ground, and this crowd isn't after scores anyway.

**How to do it (if you want to take something from here):** Only a few things can be carried over compliantly. Name products with terms that already have search volume (your own brand term, or a category term that doesn't touch trademarks). Use server-side feature switches and forced updates so you can bring old users along when you switch or migrate packages. Aim for small-country category charts; a few thousand installs can buy chart exposure.

**How to acquire users:** Match days. Arab football fans search intensively on weekends of the Champions League, national derbies, and the Saudi league, and they ask "where do I watch?" in TikTok comments. That's the timing for content and push notifications. Diaspora markets (Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands) have a lower bar than the Gulf.

**Deadline:** No window worth rushing for. If you truly want to build a legitimate Arabic sports product, the next big demand peak is the January 2027 Asian Cup (inferred; Saudi Arabia is hosting).

**What would show I'm wrong:** (1) This package is still on Play and still growing after March 2027, meaning this type of package lasts longer than expected. (2) The developer ships retention features that don't depend on live streams (community, prediction games, short video), and installs keep climbing while the server's live switch stays off. That would suggest the "Syria Live" brand retains users on its own, not only through piracy. (3) Google or beIN launches a noticeably cheaper legitimate option in Arabic markets, and "where do I watch?" in TikTok comments drops off. In that case the whole demand would shrink.

| beIN SPORTS / TOD / beIN CONNECT | Android | Years | tens of millions | Paid licensed live streaming; the demand behind pirate apps comes from exactly here |

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **Play Store brand-name search** : searching 'سوريا لايف syria live' turns up dozens of pirate mirror sites (syrialive.tv live since 2024, syrialive.buzz, syria-live.online, app.syr.live, etc.); the app name is this brand term; Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Turkey, all countries with large Syrian diasporas, also show it in their sports charts

- Inferred **Migrating old users after old packages were pulled** : the same developer's same-name packages com.syrialive.box (2026-02, 100k+), online.syrialive.app (2026-03, 100k+) and com.newsyrialive (100k+) have all disappeared from Play; the new package starts at v19; the server app.json force-update points to com.syrialive.news; installs jumped about 77k in a single day on 10-04

- **Confirmed** **Small-country category chart exposure** : AppWinners 11-06: free Sports chart top 10 in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq and others

- **Confirmed** **Owned social media and website** : the settings API lists Facebook Syrlive1, Instagram syrialives, YouTube @syria8k, Telegram syriascores (510 subscribers), website syria-scores.com

- Inferred **Paid acquisition / TikTok creators** : TikTok only has scattered how-to-watch-matches videos, x-radar 0 posts, and our ad library doesn't track it; no evidence found

## Why سوريا لايف (Syria Live, com.syrialive.news) managed to break out

In one line: it isn't a new fixtures app. In the Arab world there's a veteran pirate football streaming brand called 'سوريا لايف / Syria Live', and dozens of mirror sites use the name. This package is that brand's latest alias on Google Play: the store page says 'fixtures only, no live streams', but the app ships an HLS player and iframe/WebView playback pages, with the channel list controlled by server switches. It gets traction from three things: search volume on the brand term itself, old pulled packages moving their users over, and low entry bars in several small-country category charts. The product itself isn't what differentiates it.

### 1. Basic data (our googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

| items | value |
|---|---|
| Developer | Ahmed Ali Halawa (AppGoblin lists Egypt; email syrialive00@gmail.com; website syria-scores.com) |
| Store launch | 2026-09-09 (version number starts at v19, indicating the code comes from the old package; see section 3) |
| Total installs | 289,753 (11-06); 55,884 new over 7 days |
| Rating | 1,342 ratings, average 4.90; histogram 1–3 stars **are all 0** (4 stars 137, 5 stars 1,204), only 14 written reviews |
| Monetization | ad_supported=True, no in-app purchases; the APK contains AdMob and Unity Ads; the banner code served by the server comes from highperformanceformat.com (Adsterra-family ad network) |
| Charts (our library, 30 store) | Free SPORTS chart: best in Saudi Arabia at #3, UAE #8; Sweden 35, Netherlands 37, Germany 40, Turkey 65, US 67, UK 77 and others, across 13 stores |
| Charts (AppWinners, 111 countries, 11-06) | Jordan free Sports #1, Saudi Arabia 2, Sudan 2, Lebanon 3, Libya 5, Iraq 6, Kuwait 6, Oman 6, Yemen 7, UAE 8, Mauritania 9, Egypt 13; Sudan overall chart #66 ([AppWinners](https://appwinners.eu/app/android/com.syrialive.news/app)) |
| Third-party estimate | AppGoblin: about 96k MAU, monthly revenue under $10k, 100% from ads ([AppGoblin](https://www.appgoblin.info/apps/com.syrialive.news)) |

Install curve (AppstoreSpy estimates, library table app_day_ext): 9-27 about 5.5k, 10-03 about 11.5k, **10-04 jumps to 89k** (about +77k in one day), then step-like growth: 10-08 +29k, 10-14 +20k, 10-25 +26k, 11-01 +45k (our own observations), and on other days 2–4k per day. Play install counts are refreshed in batches every few days, so the size of single-day jumps can't be taken at face value. But the jump from 10k to 89k happened less than a month after launch, indicating a batch of external traffic was funneled in at once.

The user base falls into two groups: the Gulf and Levant (Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, etc.), and Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Turkey, where Syrian refugees and diaspora are concentrated. An Arabic-language app charting in the top 40 of the German, Swedish and Dutch sports charts is most plausibly explained by Syrian diaspora searching the brand term 'سوريا لايف'.

### 2. What it actually is (APK unpacking, 2026-11-06 downloaded from APKPure v20.0.0)

- Built with Flutter. Screen names in the code include `ChannelsScreen`, `LivesScreen`, `WatchScreen`, `PlayerScreen`, `IframeStreamScreen`, `ExternalStreamWebViewScreen`, `ReelsScreen`; bundles BetterPlayer (HLS/m3u8 player), webview_flutter, InAppWebView, YouTube parsing, and pulls beIN Sports article feeds.

- The server at `api.syria-scores.info/app.json` currently returns `show_channels:false, show_lives:false, show_reels:false`, meaning the live entry points are server-controlled and switched off right now. `/api/v2/channels` returns two empty arrays, with keys `ostora` and `yc`, corresponding to the sources of the similar pirate brands 'الأسطورة / Ostora TV' and 'Yacine TV'.

- In the same app.json, the force-update (force:true) note says it is for 'improving live (البث) stability', and the redirect link points to com.syrialive.news. There is also an iOS link pointing to id6753231319 on the App Store, with the developer credited as 'Ahmed Naeim' (listed 2025-10-03, 295 ratings in the Egypt store, 453 in Saudi Arabia).

- The request header template in `/api/v2/settings` imitates the official YSScores app (`app-versionname 4.16.2`). Fixture and score data comes from ysscores.com (images all served from imgs.ysscores.com). The official site syria-scores.com is a score site that wraps YSScores data, titled 'أهم مباريات اليوم بث مباشر' (today's key matches, live broadcast).

- The code contains in_app_review and `rate_app`. Given 1–3 star ratings with 0 and 1,342 ratings but only 14 written reviews, the rating prompt is likely shown only when users are satisfied, or ratings are being solicited. This is inferred and unverified.

**Conclusion** : the store page and website are a compliant shell (fixtures and scores only), and what actually draws users is the live feed that works as soon as the server switches it on. This is the standard playbook of the Arabic 'Kora live app' industry: switches off during app review, switched on on match days, and when it gets reported and pulled, relaunch under a new package name.

### 3. Growth tactics

1. **Brand-term search (confirmed)** : 'سوريا لايف syria live' is a major brand among Arabic pirate streaming sites. Jina/Exa searches turn up syrialive.buzz, syrialive.mom, syrlive.click, syria-live.online, syrialive.tv (with an 'official app download' page since 2024), app.syr.live, mobikora.app/sites/syria-live and a long list of other mirror sites, plus the YouTube channel @syrialivecc. When users search this term directly in Play, this package's name is 'سوريا لايف', capturing the brand's search demand.

2. **Swapping aliases, migrating old users (strong evidence; the migration part is inferred)** : the same developer has at least three other pulled same-name packages. com.syrialive.box (2026-02, v11–12, 100k+, now Play returns 404, AppGoblin marks it as removed), online.syrialive.app (credited to 'A Plus We Build and Launch Mobile Apps', 2026-03, v11, 100k+, 3.3 stars, 404), and com.newsyrialive (AppBrain lists Ahmed Ali Halawa, the Play page once showed Technorif OÜ, 100k+, no longer on Play). AppstoreSpy records 2 removed apps from this developer. The new package starts at v19, picking up right where the old packages' version numbers left off, showing it's the same codebase. The server's forced update points to the new package, and the existing users of the old packages were likely funneled over this way; the 10-04 jump may have been one such migration, but which old package and which date were pulled has not been verified.

3. **Owned channels (confirmed, small volume)** : the settings API lists Facebook Syrlive1, Instagram syrialives, YouTube @syria8k, Telegram t.me/syriascores (created 2026-08-21, 510 subscribers). The website syria-scores.com may also drive traffic. Of these channels, Telegram is tiny and not a main driver.

4. **Small-country category charts (confirmed)** : the bar for the free Sports charts in Jordan, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen and similar countries is very low; a few thousand installs can put an app in the top 5, and charting then brings organic exposure. The '111 countries charted' AppWinners recorded are mostly small-country category charts and don't mean real global distribution.

5. **Match schedule (inferred)** : the 10-25 and 11-01 jumps fall on weekends of European leagues and the Saudi league, consistent with the pattern of people searching for live streams on match days; individual matches were not checked.

6. **Channels not found** : on TikTok, searching 'تطبيق سوريا لايف' turns up only some amateur 'how to watch matches' short videos from the World Cup period (6–July), with no sign of creators or paid promotion; x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 30 days; there is no media coverage. No evidence of paid acquisition (our ad library doesn't track it, so not finding it doesn't mean it didn't run).

### 4. Competitors

The 'fixtures app shell + pirate brand name' niche in Arabic is extremely crowded; about half of the top 30 in the Saudi Sports free chart are apps of this type (googleplay library, 11-06):

| Product | Scale (total installs / new installs in 7 days) | Launched | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yacine TV(com.yacinetvapps.sportlive) | 7.93M / 385k | Unknown | The head of the pirate brand, 27 times larger in volume; same fixtures shell |
| Yacine TV (Yacine TV LLC, 2026-07) | 1.72M / 266k | 2026-07-25 | Another alias from the same brand, ramping up faster |
| Yalla Shoot(Yalla Group) | 20.8M / 200k | 2023-04 | A veteran brand with long longevity |
| Drama Live – دراما لايف | 840k / 58k | Unknown | Same category, similar scale |
| KoraPlus | 470k / 53k | 2026-08 | Same category, similar launch timing |
| الأسطورة (Ostora, Yacine Group) | 3M / 12k | 2023-10 | Its live-source key `ostora` points to this brand |
| سوريا لايف لجميع المباريات(Latino Dev) | 284k / not charting today | 2026-04 | A third party riding the same brand name, with roughly similar volume |
| syria live سوريا لايف(Kaverix Ltd) | 3,789 | 2026-10 | New name-borrowers |
| Syria Live Score (com.newsyria.livescore), syria.live.koora.bat.mobachir | Not in library | Unknown | Same-name term riding |
| Legit score apps: 365Scores, Sofascore, FotMob, All Football, Dawry (Waveline, 2026-05, 760k / 57k), Thmanyah | Tens of millions to hundreds of millions | Years | They have licensed data and no pirated streams; users come for scores, not for live video |
| Licensed live streaming: beIN SPORTS / TOD / beIN CONNECT | tens of millions | Years | Paid, which is exactly the demand that pirate apps feed on |

### 5. Differentiation

No product-level differentiation. The data is YSScores white-label, and the UI and shell are a common template for this niche. The real differentiator is the **brand name** : "Syria Live" already had recognition among Syrians and Gulf users, which defines its audience (Gulf + Levant + European Syrian diaspora) and explains why it hits #1 in countries like Jordan and Lebanon. The brand is why it took off, but the brand isn't exclusive to it: Latino Dev, Kaverix and others use the same name.

### 6. Visibility

Almost nobody knows about it yet: no press coverage, no public revenue, 0 mentions on X. Only auto-generated ASO pages like AppGoblin, AppWinners and getasolab index it. That said, the category itself is well known in Arabic dev circles and many have copied it, so it isn't an empty opportunity.

### 7. What to take from it / Risks

- Worth borrowing: use brand keywords with existing search volume for the package name; when rotating package names, use a server-forced update to migrate existing users to the new package; keep feature flags on the server (off during review, on after release); aim for small-country category charts; stack several ad networks (Unity, AdMob, Adsterra) and monetize through interstitials.

- Risks: piracy violates Google Play's IP policy and draws complaints from rights holders like beIN. The developer has already had at least 3 same-name packages taken down, so this one's lifespan is likely only a few months. Its growth comes from "migration + brand search" and doesn't prove any new product demand.

### 8. Uncertain

- Which migration or match caused the 10-04 jump is unverified.

- Whether the live-stream toggle turns on during matches, or for different regions or versions, hasn't been tested (it was off when we captured it).

- Whether ratings were inflated, or the rating prompt is only shown to satisfied users, hasn't been verified.

- Why com.newsyrialive is attributed to Technorif OÜ, and its relationship to Ahmed Ali Halawa, hasn't been verified.

- Revenue is only AppGoblin's estimate (under $10k per month).
