"I've been harassed by PDF spam" yet gave five stars: PDF Jumper bought 1.73M installs in three months
What it is An ad-supported Android universal document reader that opens PDF, Word, Excel and PPT, and converts, scans, merges and splits PDFs. It is nearly identical to hundreds of similar apps.
Why it took off It didn't take off on its own, it was bought: in August it spent on Japan and the UK, in October on France, Canada and Germany, one wave a month, pushing it up the category charts. The money is recouped through ads, and the review feed shows many out-of-app pop-ups.
DHow you could follow it Don't build the Nth PDF reader. Teams with paid-acquisition and ad-monetization experience can copy its pacing: split by country, one wave a month, aim for low-barrier category charts, and stop when it doesn't pay back. Truly localizing the app inside non-English markets may be the only small gap.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-07-20 · 11-07 installs 1,735,685
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.Android · Ratings count (cumulative) Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations)
An Android PDF reader with no visible maker launched in Jul 20, charted in the Top Free Productivity list in Japan, the UK and France in August and again in October, top 10, and hit 1.73M lifetime installs. Growth collapsed the moment paid acquisition stopped. The product itself is no different from hundreds of others, so don't copy it. What's worth studying is the buying: country by country, one wave a month, spend only while it pays back, stop when it doesn't. The "pop-up" complaints that keep showing up in the reviews also reveal how this kind of app actually makes its money.
A five-star negative review with 294 likes
In Sep 2026 1, a German user gave PDF Jumper & Document Reader five stars, but the review read: "ich fühle mich von PDF ständig belästigt, genötigt und bedrängt". In English: I feel constantly harassed, pressured and pushed around by PDFs. Why do they keep popping up so aggressively? By November, the review had 294 "helpful" votes, the most of any review in the German store.
On the same day, the top US review was a one-star: "after downloading, this app kept harassing me and interrupting every task. I feel bullied" (184 likes). A French reviewer wrote "sur youtube je ne peux pas l'enlever" (on YouTube I can't get rid of it), and others said they kept getting "PDF expired" reminders. A Japanese one-star from Aug 17 read: "とにかくしつこくポップアップが出てくるし、アンインストールすらできない" (Pop-ups nonstop, and you can't even uninstall it). Another US review: "not sure why I was forced to download this".
These reviews say more about what the app does than the store listing does.
What it is
On the listing, it's a "universal document reader": open PDF, Word, Excel, PPT; image-to-PDF; photo scanning; merge and split. It's tagged "Contains ads" with no in-app purchases. The developer is listed as "Vialle;" (with a semicolon in the name), the contact email is gmail, and the website pdfjumper.net loads blank. The description is a stretch of translated-sounding English ("perfectly suited for student learning, daily office duties and business scenarios") that's nearly identical to a PDF Jumper app listed 2025 years earlier, which has over 500 million installs.
The same developer had an older package, com.toolspdf.jumper.sukter, also called PDF Jumper, which reached over 100k installs. Its last update was Jul 6. Two weeks later, a new package, toolspdf2, went live, and the large-scale paid acquisition started with it.
Two waves, one month each
| Period | Total installs | Average daily new installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 07-20 → 08-11 | 0 → 32k | About 1,400 | Just launched |
| 08-11 → 09-10 | 32k → 1.28M | ~42k | Wave 1: Japan, UK. 08-16 peaked at 116k in a single day |

Source: Aug to late Oct are estimates from third-party AppstoreSpy, trend only; after late Oct, Google Play public install counts.
Chart data matches both waves. In wave 1, it hit #5 (08-24) in Japan's free Productivity chart, #48 overall in Japan, and #7 in UK Productivity (Ember Picks). In wave 2, it entered the top 14 of French Productivity in Oct 10, reached #18 overall in French apps in Oct 25, #95 overall in Canada, and made the top 100 in Germany, Sweden, Australia and Indonesia (AppInsider). AppWinners logged it charting in 60 countries and regions at once in October, including French overseas territories; by Nov 6 that was down to 16. In Nov 6 its best free Productivity rank was #45 in Germany and #61 in the US.
Rating 3.7 stars from 3,200 ratings, with 22% one-star. Over the last four weeks the rating dropped to 2.9 stars (AppInsider). 1.73M installs produced only 3,200 ratings, about 0.18%. Tools that grow through word of mouth usually get far higher than that.
Where users come from
It's almost certainly bought (inference, high confidence):
- The package includes AppsFlyer, an attribution tool only apps running paid acquisition need, plus Facebook and Google ad SDKs (AppGoblin's SDK scan from August).
- The install curve shows two spikes, jumping from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands a day and then falling back, on days with no new version and no press coverage.
- Each wave targeted only a few countries; places like French overseas territories only show up with geo-targeted spend.
- The most-liked French review was "the signup flow is in English, I want to know what I agreed to" (175 likes), and a German user complained "I don't understand English, so I'm not signing". The app is listed in French and German charts but isn't localized inside, which suggests users came from ads, not from searching "PDF".
A TikTok search for "PDF Jumper" returns no videos, nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 90 days, and the only web results are APK download sites and auto-generated app data pages.
Where the money comes from
All of it from ads. AppGoblin estimates about 250k monthly active users and over $10k a month in ad revenue. That's a third-party model and can't be verified.
The usual pattern: a PDF reader registers itself as the default handler for files, so every time you tap an email attachment it gets launched, and each open can show an ad. The reviews describe something more direct: ads appearing outside the app. "It pops up when I watch YouTube", "pushes an update notice every five minutes", "keeps telling me my PDF expired", "wants me to install 15 other apps", "can't close it, can't uninstall it". So part of the ad revenue likely comes from lock-screen, overlay and full-screen notification ads outside the app, plus fake "update" and "expired" prompts (inference based on reviews; not verified by unpacking the APK). This monetizes well but breaks Google Play's policy on disruptive ads, and the more aggressive the tactics, the higher the removal risk. Relisting under a new package is probably preparation for that risk (inference).
Who it's competing with
Document readers are one of the most crowded tool categories on Google Play. Nov 6 data:
| Product | Total installs | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|
| WPS Office | 832M | 2.15M |
| PDF Reader - Easy PDF | 433M | 1.85M |
| Adobe Acrobat Reader | 945M | 1.51M |
| PDF ProX (launched 2025-04) | 33M | 1.25M |
| Readdock - PDF Tools (listed 2025-06) | 11.4M | 1.02M |
| PDF Box, PDF Pilot, ApolloPDF and others listed this year | 700k–2.45M | 260k–470k |
| PDF Jumper & Document Reader | 1.74M | 70k |
Source: Google Play install counts, 11-06.
Among similar apps, the top 7 by new installs in 40 days each had over 230k. It didn't make that cut. Newer listings from the same batch mostly grew faster than it did. Also, Android's built-in Files by Google and Google Drive already open PDFs, for free, with no ads. These apps live off users who don't know their phone can already open PDFs.
If it were you
Bottom line: This app isn't worth following. It's useful for studying a proven paid-acquisition cash flow playbook, not as a "new opportunity".
Who it suits: Teams already running paid acquisition for Android tools, with ad monetization (AdMob, Meta Audience Network) and attribution experience, who can accept that a package might be pulled at any time.
Who it doesn't suit: Solo indie devs, anyone trying to grow through product quality and word of mouth, or anyone without a testing budget of tens of thousands of dollars. There's no product-level gap here; it's a contest of bid efficiency and monetization, against old accounts installing tens of millions a year.
If you do it anyway: Don't build the Nth English PDF reader. Copy its rhythm instead: spend in only a few countries at a time, prioritize markets where the Productivity chart is easy to crack (Japan, France). A few tens of thousands of Japanese installs can get you into the top 10 and earn some chart exposure. Run waves of about a month, measure ROI, stop if it doesn't pay back, and move to new countries. The gap it leaves is localization: French and German users complained that the signup pages were all English, which suggests that properly localizing the app into the local language could be a small edge in non-English markets (inference).
How to get users: Only one route, paid acquisition (Meta, Google UAC), geo-targeted by country. Organic traffic is nearly zero.
Timing: No window; this category is always crowded. But if you plan to monetize through out-of-app popups, Google Play's enforcement could tighten at any time, and how long the approach lasts is hard to predict.
What would show I'm wrong: If it held above 10k daily installs without ad spend, or ratings recovered and reviews started genuinely praising it, that would mean the product has retention, not just bought traffic. If it gets pulled before late November, or a third package appears, that proves the business relies on swapping packages to dodge enforcement, and following it costs more than it looks.

Bottom line
This is a standard "ad-monetized universal document reader": the product is practically indistinguishable from hundreds of similar apps, and it got traction through geo-concentrated paid acquisition (two waves: August focused on Japan / UK, mid-October on France / Canada / Germany), with installs paying back through AdMob + Meta Audience Network ads. The second wave is already fading. It's not a "new opportunity" worth watching; it's a sample of paid acquisition in a crowded red ocean.
1. Data: how much traction it has really gained

II. Competitors: who else is doing the same thing
PDF/Office document readers are among the most crowded tool categories on Google Play. In our googleplay library sorted by 7-day new installs, the top 40 in the same category all added over 230k in 7 days; this app's 70k doesn't make the list:
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay library, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adobe Acrobat Reader | Cross-platform on Android and more | 2010 | 945M installs, +1.51M in 7 days | Established brand, subscription revenue, complete editing features |

| Readdock - PDF Tools(Innovate AI) | Android | 2025-06 | 11.4M, +1.02M in 7 days | Same as above |
| PDF Box / PDF Pilot / Reampo / ApolloPDF / AuraPDF / PDF Editor & PDF Reader (LuminousByte), etc. | Android | 2026-05 through October | 700k–2.45M, 7-day +26–470k | Same-category apps launched around the same time mostly grew faster |
| PDF Jumper - Read PDF(Al-Farah Solutions,jump.readpdf.com) | Android | 2025-05-30 | 5M+ tier (AppBrain: 5.1M) | Same name, one year older, with nearly identical description template |
| Google Drive / Files by Google built-in PDF viewing | Big-company features | Already around | Preinstalled at system level | Free, no ads; this kind of app lives off users who don't know the system can already open PDFs |
Verdict: no product-level gap at all. It's a mid-to-small player in a red ocean.
III. Growth tactics: where users came from
| Channel | Evidence | Verification status |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (Meta / Google and other ad networks) | 1) The SDK includes AppsFlyer (attribution, only needed for paid acquisition) and Facebook / Google ad SDKs (AppGoblin SDK scan, 2026-08-22); 2) the install curve shows two steep pulses, jumping from a few thousand to 11–150k in a single day before collapsing, with no version update or press coverage; 3) each wave was concentrated by country (first Japan/UK, then France/Canada/Germany), including regions like French overseas departments that only targeted buys reach; 4) rating rate 0.18%, 1★ 22% | Strong inference; our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries did not track it (not on the list), and ad creatives were not directly observed |
| Store search / chart snowballing | After breaking into the top 10 in Japan and France Productivity charts, chart exposure brought some organic installs; but the curve dropped immediately after spend stopped, suggesting organic volume was small | Inferred |
| File-open handling ("Open with another app") | Apps like this register as the default handler for PDF/DOC files, so users get pulled back repeatedly when tapping email attachments, which is the source of ad impressions | General category mechanic, not specifically verified for this app |
| Old package swapped for a new one | The same developer earlier had com.toolspdf.jumper.sukter (same name, 100k+ installs, 254 ratings, last updated 2026-07-06, with a Japanese localization). Large-scale spend only started after it was relaunched as a new "toolspdf2" package, 7-20 | Two packages confirmed; the reason for the swap (avoiding account enforcement / testing new creatives) is unverified |
| Name borrowing | Al-Farah Solutions 2025-05 is already using the name "PDF Jumper", with 5M+ installs; both of Vialle's packages are called PDF Jumper | Name overlap confirmed; whether it was intended to capture search traffic is unverified |
| TikTok / X / Reddit / press | TikHub search for "PDF Jumper" returned 0 results; x-radar had 0 posts in the last 90 days; web search only turned up APK sites and app-data sites | None |
Where the money comes from: 100% ads (Play lists it as Contains ads, no in-app purchases; AppGoblin estimates IAP 0% / Ad 100%, roughly 250k MAU and $10K+ monthly revenue; third-party estimates unverified). Document-reader ad monetization relies on app-open/interstitial ads plus impressions on each "open file" action; users are repeatedly pulled back through system file associations, so per-user LTV is higher than typical utilities, enough to justify paid acquisition in tier-1 countries in the US, Europe and Japan.
4. Why it made the list
- Paid acquisition: two bursts of roughly a month each. The first pulled 1.25M installs (AppstoreSpy estimate) and drove most of the growth; after spend stopped, daily installs dropped from 40k to 6 thousand.
- Targeting small tier-1 markets to push category charts: the Productivity Top Free charts in Japan, the UK and France have low entry barriers; a few tens of thousands of installs can break into the top 10, which then brings some organic chart traffic.
- The category's monetization path is mature: document readers rely on the default-open-app slot to repeatedly trigger ad impressions, eCPMs are high in Europe, the US and Japan, and paid acquisition can pay back. That is the precondition for this playbook, not something unique to this app.
- The product itself is not the cause: the description is a machine-translated template (nearly identical to the same-named Al-Farah version), the features are standard "read + convert + merge/split + scan", no updates in the two months after 1.1.3, and recent ratings at 2.9★.
5. Differentiation
No real differentiation. The name (PDF Jumper) and icon are the only "differences", and the name collides with an earlier, larger app of the same name. It ran because of how the spend was executed (country selection, package swaps, concentrated pulses), not because of the product.
6. How many people have seen it
- No public revenue, no founder, and no coverage from media or big X accounts. The developer is a personal account "Vialle;" (with a semicolon) plus gmail; the website pdfjumper.net now only shows an empty S3 bucket (returning NoSuchKey).
- Only appears on auto-generated app-data sites like AppGoblin, AppInsider, AppWinners and IndieTower.
- From the perspective of "does the average person know it?", nobody does; but for teams that buy installs for Android tools, this category is long crowded, so there is no information gap.
VII. What others can borrow
- The document reader "default-open + ads" model is a mature cash-flow playbook: system file associations generate repeat triggers, many impressions per user, and that supports tier-1 paid acquisition.
- Spend rhythm: one wave per month, across a few countries. First, push into the low-barrier category charts (Japan / France Productivity) to get into the top 10 for chart exposure; if ROI doesn't work, stop, then switch countries or relaunch with a new package.
- Relaunching under a new package: after the old package reached 100k installs, a new package under "2" went live again, keeping the name and creatives. Common for avoiding account enforcement or resetting store ranking weight.
8. What's still uncertain
- Which ad networks were used, what the creatives looked like, and how much was spent (our ad libraries don't track it; Meta Ad Library not directly checked).
- Who is behind the developer: the machine-translated phrasing ("fixed desktop office work", "outdoor mobile working") reads like a Chinese team, but whether Vialle; and Al-Farah Solutions are the same operator is unverified.
- AppGoblin's $10K+/month and 250k MAU are third-party model estimates.
- The 8–October install curve comes from AppstoreSpy estimates; read the single-day figures for trend only.
- Whether there will be a third wave (or another package swap) after the second wave.
