# One "Blue fish's favorite 5 baits" video doubled a Turkish outdoor app's installs in a week

**What it is** A Turkish-language outdoor map community app. Anglers, campers, and RV users pin the places they've been to on a map and share them, plus a "safe return" feature that automatically sends your location to family if you don't check in on time.

**Why it took off** It hit Turkey's autumn fishing season and a long weekend, and the whole fishing app category rose together. Its own TikTok account posts daily "which fish eats which bait" style lists; three of those videos each got 2–30k views and drove people straight to the store.

**C** **How you could follow this** Don't copy "a全户外 community." Copy the playbook instead: in a small-language, strongly seasonal hobby circle, build a tiny tool people want to check every day. Two weeks before peak season, start posting daily short-form videos with practical lists, ending with a line that links to the download.

C grade: the volume is small and seasonal, and the community format hasn't proven itself. Turkey already has at least eight fishing apps this year, and most are growing faster than this one. What's worth learning is the low-cost content acquisition tactic; copying the product isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-05 · 11-07 installs 1,514

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Trofya is a Turkish-built outdoor map community: anglers, campers, RV users, and hunters pin the places they've been on a map, and it also has a "safe return" feature. Its installs more than doubled last week, but the total is still only around 1,500. The growth came from two things: the autumn fishing season, and a 250-follower TikTok account posting daily fishing tips. Whether the product itself is any good is still unclear. The content playbook is worth studying; the product format hasn't been proven and isn't worth copying.

### A 30-second video

On Oct 31, an account called @trofya.app on TikTok posted a 30-second vertical video. The opening line was "Lüfer bu 5 yeme dayanamaz" (Blue fish can't resist these 5 baits). Then came a list: garfish, live or cut, the top bait for blue fish; horse mackerel (istavrit); anchovy; sardine and small bream; mullet. The closing lines were "Check the wind before you go, wind maps are free on Trofya" and "Download Trofya free right now."

At the time the account had 250 followers, and its earlier videos had only 200 to 700 views. This one reached 6k views by Nov 33. The next day's "which fish eats which bait" video (sea bass eats live shrimp, bream eats mussels and crab...) got 26k views. A Nov 2 video, "Don't touch these fish if they bite you, the most poisonous one is last," got 19k (TikTok view counts, 11-06).

Google Play installs moved with it: cumulative installs were 29 in Oct, 689 by Oct 31, then jumped by 761 in Nov 2, and by Nov 322 were 6, more than 1,514,8 days' worth 825 (Google Play installs, 11-06). Before that, from its September launch to the end of October, it was getting only ten to twenty installs a day.

### What it is

The Google Play description opens with: "Bring fishing, camping, RV, and outdoor enthusiasts together on one map." Users pin photos of fishing spots and campsites with real locations, so others can find fishing spots, campsites, and routes RVs can take. There's also a secondhand gear marketplace, local events, outdoor weather, and an AI assistant that only answers outdoor questions.

The most distinctive feature is "Safe Return": before heading out, you enter your expected return time and an emergency contact. If you don't check in on time, the app automatically sends your location and route to that contact. Among Turkish-language apps in this category, this feature is rare.

In October, the 1.2.0 update reworked the weather, added a "fish activity score" and a sun-and-moon fishing calendar, and introduced a paid "My Spots (Pro)" tier. Spots are visible only to you, and when conditions match a spot you saved, you get a reminder the day before. In-app purchase price is $1.89–16.99 (Google Play store page). Revenue isn't public and can't be seen from outside.

The developer registered on Google Play under a personal name, Aydın Sancar, and has only this one app. The iOS version launched first on Aug 18, and the Google Play version on Sep 5.

### Why this week

**First, seasonality.** October and November are peak season for blue fish (lüfer, a coastal predator fish) in Turkey, and this year it overlapped with the long Republic Day weekend on Oct 29. Trofya's own Facebook page wrote: "The best months are October and November; once the water cools, lüfer goes wild." Fishing apps across Turkey were all climbing during those days. A forecast app called Balık Durumu ("fish status") gained over 4,538 installs in a day on Oct 31; Fishifu, Balık Yakala, and Mera Radar also jumped between Oct 31 and Nov 3 (Google Play installs, 11-06). Trofya rose along with the whole market.

**Second, the video format.** Starting Oct 26, it posted daily in a fixed format: the first line says you're doing it wrong ("right bait, wrong time" or "right lure, wrong color"), then a list you can screenshot, with fish that are running this season, and a final line like "save this, check it before you go," plus a note about what's free on Trofya. Each video is a practical resource; the ad only takes up the last sentence. Earlier videos on fishing for sea bass after a storm, or three rigs for the same fish, didn't take off. They only began to take off after "fish and bait matching charts," lists everyone can use.

**Third, the low bar of the charts.** On Turkey's Google Play Sports free chart, almost everything is football scores and betting apps. Trofya's 825 installs in a week got it to #41–44 (Google Play Turkey Sports free chart, 11-04 to 11-06). On iOS, it climbed from #181 to #82 on Turkey's Social Networking free chart. Having a chart position gives a bit more organic visibility in the store.

One more detail: on iOS it has 17 ratings averaging 4.8 stars, and of the 10 visible reviews, 7 were written in its first 5 days. They're all five-star reviews, like "I'm sick of the junk on social media. Here there's only nature, camping, RVs, and fishing." No new ratings have come in since Oct 28. It looks like friends and family were asked to fill in the early reviews *inferred*.

### Who it's competing with

Turkey saw a whole wave of fishing apps appear over 2026 years, mostly built by individuals or small teams, and most are growing faster than Trofya:

| Product | Launched | Google Play cumulative installs | Last 7 days | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Balık Durumu | Unknown | 6,255 | +5,639 | Only answers "can I catch fish today?" |
| Balık Yakala / Catch | 2026-10-07 | 7,797 | +3,560 | Fishing forecast, launched a month after Trofya |
| Fishifu | 2026-07-20 | 12k | +2,761 | Bite score, 3D underwater maps |
| Mera Radar | 2026-07-09 | 10.6k | +1,606 | Shore fishing bite score and tides |
| FishRadar | Unknown | 20k | +1,558 | Fishing spot map plus forecasts |
| Wildigo | 2026-05-20 | 9,709 | +1,205 | Tools for hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking |
| Fisher AI | 2025-12 | 38k | +1,041 | AI spot finder and forecasts |
| **Trofya** | 2026-09-05 | 1,514 | +825 | Outdoor community + safe return |

(Google Play, 11-06.) Further up are the global fishing community Fishbrain and the European RV campsite map park4night, each with more than 10 million installs, though they have little local Turkish content. The real existing audience is actually in Turkish fishing and camping groups on Facebook.

This table shows two things. First, the Turkish fishing app niche is already crowded, with at least eight new entrants this year. Second, the tools that drive volume are "can I fish today?" utilities, not communities: the pure forecast tool Balık Yakala launched a month after Trofya and is growing 4 times faster this week. A community needs people and content first, and 1,500 installs and 17 ratings can't sustain one. Trofya's own additions in 1.2.0, the fish activity score and Pro spots, also lean toward the utility side.

### How many people know about it

Very little. No media coverage, nobody discussing it on X or Reddit, and revenue isn't public. Its exposure comes entirely from its own accounts: 3.2K followers on its Facebook page, 250 TikTok followers, Instagram reels, 18 subscribers on the "Trofya TV" YouTube channel, plus acquaintances sharing the download link on personal accounts. Whether it runs paid ads can't be determined from outside *unverified*.

### If it were you

**Verdict: C.** The product itself isn't worth following, but its playbook is. A "community for all outdoor people" hasn't taken off yet, and Turkey's fishing tool space is already saturated. What you can take away is this tactic: a small-language, strongly seasonal hobby audience, plus daily short videos of practical lists during peak season. Even an account with zero followers can get tens of thousands of views and drive people straight to the store.

**Who it suits:** People already in a strongly seasonal hobby circle (fishing, hunting, mushroom picking, skiing, birdwatching), who speak a small language and can produce "insider knowledge" lists every day for several weeks. The product can be very thin, a forecast or rating tool is enough.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Anyone who wants to build a "community for all outdoor people": the cold start is too hard, and this one app doesn't prove it can work. Anyone who wants to build a fishing app in Turkey: there are already at least eight this year, and most are growing faster. Anyone hoping for big money from subscriptions: no paying point for this category is visible yet.

**How to build it:** Start with a small tool everyone wants to check each day ("can I fish at this spot today?" "how windy is it this weekend?"). Put the paid tier on private favorites and reminders, the way Trofya's Pro spots work. The safe return feature could be split out and tested with hikers and solo travelers in a different language. There's no evidence yet that anyone downloaded for that feature, though.

**How to get users:** Start posting daily on TikTok and Instagram reels two weeks before peak season begins. Each video is one list: open by saying what people are doing wrong, pick fish (or whatever your subject is) that are in season, and end with one line like "X is free in our app." Then check the free chart for the matching category in your country. If the top spots are all betting or football apps, a hundred or so installs a day can get you onto it.

**When this window closes:** Peak season is the window. Turkey's blue fish season ends by the end of November. In other countries or hobbies, start the content account two weeks before that peak season begins; miss it and you wait until next year.

**Signs you've got it wrong:** ① After peak season ends at the end of November, if Trofya still gets over a hundred installs a day and its rating count starts rising, the community route is working better than it looks, and it's worth revisiting. ② Conversely, if the pure fishing tools fall back to a few dozen installs a day once the season passes, the business is only seasonal, and tool builders can't rely on it alone. ③ If its TikTok videos drop back to a few hundred views over the next few weeks, the three hits were just lucky timing, and this content playbook can't be repeated indefinitely.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **The brand's own TikTok posted daily fishing tips** : @trofya.app's "Lüfer bu 5 yeme dayanamaz" got 10-31 32,998 views, 11-01 25,767,11-02 18,698. Earlier videos had only a few hundred views. Installs 10-31 +72, 11-02 +322, 11-03 +156 followed these posts (TikHub, googleplay data).

- **Verified** **Season / holidays (fishing peak plus a 10-29 Republic Day long weekend)** : Balık Durumu 10-31 rose +4,538 in one day over the same period. Fishifu, Balık Yakala and Mera Radar also climbed from 10-31 to 11-03. The Facebook page itself posts that October and November are the lüfer peak.

- **Verified** **Brand's own Facebook / Instagram and personal shares** : the Facebook page has 3.2K followers. Personal accounts like Faruk Yüksel shared the download link, tagging Aydın Sancar and Musa Sahin.

- Inferred **Seeded reviews from friends at launch** : of the 10 iOS reviews visible, 7 were posted in the first 5 days (8-18 to 8-22), all long five-star reviews. The rating count has stayed at 17 since 10-28.

- **Verified** **Store chart exposure** : the Turkish Sports Top Free chart is dominated by football and betting apps, so the bar is low. Trofya reached 41–44 with only 825 installs a week.

- Inferred **Paid ads** : not tracked in the metaads library (the library is incomplete). Unverified.

## Trofya (com.trofya.app): a Turkish outdoor map community that rode seasonality and TikTok fishing tips. Not yet a breakout.

### Bottom line

Trofya is a fishing + camping/RV + outdoors map community built by a solo developer in Turkey, with a "safe return" feature. The "7-day doubling" on the data card is small, and it's **riding a wave** : late October into early November hits Turkey's autumn fishing season (lüfer/bluefish season) plus the 10-29 Republic Day long weekend, so every fishing app in the Turkish store rose at once. Trofya's own push came from TikTok fishing tip videos it started posting daily around 10-26 (10-31, 11-01, and 11-02, three clips at 33k / 26k / 19k views), and the timing matches the jump in installs. Its positioning (a community covering fishing, camping, RVs and hunting) is broader than a batch of "fishing forecast" tools from the same period, but that hasn't turned into a growth edge yet; the 1.2.0 version has instead moved toward the same-category mix of "weather / fish-activity scores / solunar + Pro for saved fishing spots."

**Bar check** : the Turkey Sports Top Free chart is almost entirely football scores and betting (Mackolik, Nesine, iddaa, Sofascore…). Trofya, ranked #44, gained only 825 installs in a week. Balık Yakala, #28 on the same chart, gained 3,560 in a week. On this chart, around a hundred installs a day is enough to reach the top 50.

### 2. Competitors

Turkey saw **a whole wave of fishing apps** in 2026 years, mostly built by individuals or small teams, nearly all on the Turkey Sports Top Free chart:

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (Play total / 7 days) | How it differs from Trofya |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fishbrain | iOS/Android | 2013 | 10.8M / +10k (global) | Global fishing community leader, subscription-based. Turkish content and local spots are thin. |
| park4night | iOS/Android | 2014 | 10.7M / +17k | Europe's leading RV campsite map. RVs only, no fishing or social. |
| Fisher AI(AYD Tech) | Android | 2025-12 | 38k / +1,041 | Pure AI spot / forecast tool |

| Mera Radar(UAWorks) | Android | 2026-07-09 | 10.6k / +1,606 | Shore fishing only: bite score, tides, 111 fish species |
| Wildigo(RBA Labs) | Android | 2026-05-20 | 9,709 / +1,205 | Modular tools for hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. Focused on routes and logs, not community. |
| Balık Yakala / Catch(Vision Lab Tech) | Android | 2026-10-07 | 7,797 / +3,560 | Launched a month later, growing 4x faster than Trofya. Pure fishing forecast. |
| Balık Durumu(Salih Kılıç) | Android | Unknown | 6,255 / +5,639 | A forecast for "can I catch fish today?", 10-31 +4,538 in one day |
| Obanest — Kamp & Doğa(Navronex) | Android | Unknown | 4,316 / +254 | Camping guide: 35+ certified campsites, offline, stargazing. Closest to Trofya's camping half. |
| Doğadayız 54 | Android | 2026-10-03 | 200 | A hiking club's event sign-up app |
| BalıkSende, Balık Cepte, baliktahmini.com | Web / App | — | Unknown | Turkish-language fishing map / AI forecast website. |
| turkeycampingmap.com, Kamplist, kampciyiz campsite maps | Web | — | turkeycampingmap claims 1,168 campsites listed | Free campsite directory |
| Instagram / Facebook groups | Big-company features | — | Turkish fishing and camping Facebook groups are the existing turf | Trofya wants to move these people to a place that only talks about the outdoors |

(Scale from googleplay.app_profile, 2026-11-06.)

**Takeaway** : Trofya isn't the first, and it isn't the biggest. Among this wave of Turkish outdoor apps, it's the **only one that packs community, feed, marketplace, events and safe return into a single app** . The rest are mostly "fish forecast" tools.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Daily TikTok fishing-tips videos (confirmed, main driver)** : @trofya.app, 250 followers, 20 videos, 1,299 likes (TikHub, 11-06). Videos 10-18 through 10-30 each got only a few hundred views. 10-31 "Lüfer bu 5 yeme dayanamaz" (the bait bluefish can't resist, 5 kinds of bait) got 32,998 views, and "Hangi balık hangi yeme gelir" got 11-01 25,767,11-02 18,698,11-04 7,028. Installs jumped 10-31 +72, 11-02 +322, 11-03 +156, right after those videos took off. The format is a list with the conclusion up front plus seasonal fish species, ending with a link to trofya.com/indir.

2. **Seasonality and holidays (confirmed to be industry-wide)** : The Facebook page itself posted: "The best months are October and November, when the water cools down and lüfer goes wild." In the same period Balık Durumu 10-31 rose +4,538 in a day, Fishifu 11-01/02 +2,375, Balık Yakala 11-02/03 +2,666, Mera Radar 10-31 to 11-02 +1,259 (googleplay.app_day). The whole category rose together; Trofya rode the same wave.

3. **Own Facebook / Instagram accounts and personal network (confirmed)** : The FB page has 3.2K followers; Instagram @trofyaapp posts reels with two store links; personal accounts such as Faruk Yüksel reshared the download link, with posts tagging "Aydın Sancar and 3 others" and "with Musa Sahin and Trofya".

4. **Friendly reviews at launch (likely)** : Of the 10 iOS reviews, 7 were written between 8-18 and 8-22, the first 5 days after launch, all five-star long reviews ("Doğa severlerin yeni favorisi" etc.); only 3 came in the following two months; since 10-28 the rating count has stayed at 17. A typical case of seeding ratings through friends and family at launch.

5. **YouTube "Trofya TV"** : 18 subscribers, 21 videos; impact negligible.

6. **Paid ads** : The metaads library did not track any Trofya Page or ads (this library only tracks advertisers on its list, so not finding them doesn't mean none were run); unverified.

7. **Media / X / Reddit** : Jina search and x-radar found no coverage or discussion.

**Developer background (not verified as the same person)** : The data controller named in the privacy policy is "Aydın Sancar (brand Trofya)". Searching the name turns up a former deputy mayor of Bursa, an educator and union figure, a 2023-year MHP Bursa parliamentary candidate, a LinkedIn profile listing "30 years in public service", and an Instagram that calls him a "digital content creator". If it is the same person, early installs may have come mainly from his local network. The Apple developer account id1575971343 has only this one app, Trofya.

### 4. Why it has this much traction now

- **Timing** : Autumn fishing peak plus 10-29 long weekends; Turkish fishing apps overall are rising (competitor data above).

- **TikTok content hit the right hook** : Practical lists like "which bait this fish eats / what time it shows up" got 30K views in one video, which for an account with 250 followers is organic traffic exploding; the install jump lines up with it in time.

- **Low charting bar** : In the TR Sports free chart, football and betting dominate, so an outdoor app getting around a hundred installs a day can reach the top 50, and charting brings a bit more store exposure.

- **Both platforms, small-country spillover** : The iOS app occasionally shows up in the Social charts in tr / sr / bg, but volumes are very small.

### 5. Differentiation

- **The claimed differentiation** : one app covering every outdoor crowd (fishing, camping/RV, hunting, water sports), a "clean social feed with only outdoor content" (a user review: "tired of messy social media, here there's only nature, camping, RVs and fishing"), plus:
    - "Safe return": if you don't come back on time, your location and route are automatically sent to trusted contacts. This is rare in the Turkish-language market.
    - A used-gear marketplace, local events, and an AI assistant (the privacy policy says it only answers fishing, camping and outdoor questions).

- **Is it the reason for its growth** : **No** . What actually drove volume was fishing content plus seasonality, the same growth source as pure fishing-forecast tools; and the pure tools (Balık Yakala, Balık Durumu) grew several times faster than Trofya. A community needs content and people first, and 1,500 installs and 17 ratings can't support the word "community". 1.2.0, plus the weather redesign, field score, solunar calendar and Pro spot alerts, shows the developer is also moving toward the "fishing tool" direction, which sells better.

- "Safe return" is a real point of difference, but there is currently no evidence that anyone downloaded because of it.

### 6. Visibility / copycats

- Visibility: **few people know about it yet** . No media coverage, no discussion on X, revenue not disclosed; only its own social accounts and friends resharing.

- Copycats: none seen copying Trofya. Rather, Trofya itself is in an already crowded niche (in Turkey, at least 2026 new fishing apps in 8 years).

### 7. What to borrow

- A small-language, highly seasonal hobby crowd (Turkish fishing): start daily "practical list" short videos two weeks before the peak season; a single account with zero followers can still get tens of thousands of views and funnel them straight to the store.

- The small-country category charts (in the TR Sports chart, betting and football dominate) have a low bar; a hundred-odd installs a day can chart, which suits cold-start exposure.

- "Safe return / automatic location sharing on overdue" can be built as a standalone paid feature and copied across languages for the outdoor, hiking and solo-travel crowds.

- But the "all-outdoor community" template has not been proven to work; what can be copied is the content playbook, not the product form.

### 8. Still unclear

- Whether it runs Meta / Google ads (our library does not track this).
