# "Is this the Faladdin that got banned?" "Yes :)" — a coffee-fortune app's skin-swap comeback

**What it is** A Turkish coffee-fortune app: snap a photo of your coffee cup, get a reading, one free reading a day, and you can keep chatting with it. It makes money from ads and credits.

**Why it took off** It's the banned Faladdin back under a new skin. The original disappeared from the Turkish stores, so anyone searching "Faladdin" finds this one, and it's built by the same team that once drove 50M downloads.

**D** **How you could follow it** Don't enter this market. What you can take is the fortune-app monetization of "one free reading a day + watch ads + credits + follow-up chat," and the idea of watching for a top app that regulators push out of a country and grabbing the search terms it leaves behind.

D grade: it runs on the brand, the original's users, and the original team, none of which a follower can get. The Turkish fortune market is crowded and carries criminal risk (the original founder is still on trial), and the gap has already been filled by the original people themselves. Few people know about it yet

On Turkey's Google Play there's a coffee-fortune app listed just four months ago, with 73k installs as of Nov 6, ranked highest among fortune apps on the Turkish Top Free chart. It isn't a new product. It's Faladdin, Turkey's top fortune app, which a court shut down in summer 2025. The same people moved it to an Estonian company, changed the package name, and put the brand back up. Below: what it is, what made it take off, where the money comes from, and why this is something you almost can't follow.

### One comment and a smiley

On Oct 2 2026, a user named Minos left a comment under the app's store listing: "Just downloaded. Is this the Faladdin we all know, the one that was banned before? 😊 I'll change my rating after I've tried it." The same day, developer Truemium Ou replied with two words: "Evet :)", meaning yes.

Minos later edited the comment: "So happy, really happy. 🥰 Hope you bring the app back to its old level, congrats to all of us!" (Google Play Turkey store listing, checked 11-06)

On the Turkish store the app is titled "Faladdin: Ücretsiz Kahve Falı" (Faladdin: Free Coffee Fortune), but the description calls itself "Faly". Package name `com.truemium.faly`, listed Jul 9. The "What's new" section has one line: "Faly Karşınızda!", meaning Faly is here.

### What happened to Faladdin

Faladdin is a coffee-fortune app Sertaç Taşdelen built in 2017. It claims 50M downloads and about 5M monthly active users. In 2020, Rest of World reported its ad budget at about $1M for the year, and on Turkey's Google Play lifestyle chart it outranked Tinder.

In Jul 2025 16, Istanbul prosecutors opened an investigation into paid fortune-telling on suspicion of fraud and money laundering. Taşdelen was detained and then arrested, and the court seized his personal assets and all shares of the operating company, Arteria Yazılım. The same day, the court blocked the websites, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook accounts of Faladdin and its sister app Binnaz. Several outlets reported that both apps were assigned trustees (Turkish Minute, Cumhuriyet, DonanımHaber, 2025-07). In Dec 2 he was released under house arrest. The case is still pending, and the money-laundering charge carries up to 7 years (Milliyet, Euronews Turkish edition, 2025-12).

What came next shows up in the store and in company registries:

- In Nov 2025 26, Truemium OÜ was registered in Estonia with share capital of 1 euros. Its sole responsible person is Kaya Diker, and the registered email uses the arteria.ventures domain. His LinkedIn lists him as "Faladdin & Binnaz co-founder and CTO" (Estonian business registers inforegister.ee and teatmik.ee).

- The original Faladdin (25.9M installs on Play) and Binnaz now both sit under Truemium Ou. The iOS seller of Faladdin is also Truemium.

- But the original has vanished from Turkey. It can't be found on the Turkish App Store, though it's available in other countries. On Google Play it appears on the lifestyle top-grossing charts in 16 countries, but on no chart in Turkey.

So a Turkish user who searches "Faladdin" in the store today can only install this new package.

### What it sells

The core loop: photograph an upturned coffee cup, upload it, and get a reading. One free reading a day. After reading, you can keep chatting with it, and there's a "Canlı sohbet" (live chat) option. Revenue comes from ads plus in-app purchases, at $1.99–5.99 per item (Play page). The original's tarot, astrology and "genie" features were not carried over.

The description is written carefully. It's full of lines like "Turkish coffee is more than a drink, it's a ritual passed down through generations" and "Faly brings this culture into the digital world," and it quotes a Turkish proverb: "Fala inanma, falsız kalma", roughly "don't believe in fortunes, but don't go without one." Prosecutors originally alleged profiting from "faith and emotions," and the description reads as if it were written point by point to sidestep that (inferred).

The reviews show what users care about. One comment from Sep 7 with 19 likes: "Just finished a reading, the app is well made, hope the quality of the readings stays this good." Another from Sep 8: "Love it, especially the live chat part, what it says comes true."

### The numbers: a flat line, not a viral curve

| Timeline | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Mid August | Only 177 installs in total | Third-party estimate |
| 9-10 | About +4,000 on a single day, one jump | Third-party estimate |
| From October | Steady 1,300–2,000 per day | Third-party estimate |
| 11-06 | 72,902 total; +13,858 in the last 7 days; Play shows "50k+" | Google Play |
| 11-06 | 1,904 ratings, 4.6 stars, 30–46 new ratings per day | Google Play |
| 10-29 to 11-06 | Turkey lifestyle Top Free at #12–18, Top Grossing at #58–62, charted every day | Google Play charts |

Two things stand out. First, the curve is flat, with none of the spikes a viral content hit would show. That looks like steady search plus paid traffic (inferred). Second, with only 70k installs it already got into the top 60 of Turkey's lifestyle Top Grossing, so it was monetizing from day one. A registry estimate puts Truemium's annual revenue at about 1.32M euros (2026 year), but that's a third-party estimate, and the company also earns overseas revenue from the original Faladdin, so the whole figure can't be credited to this new package.

### Where users come from

- **Brand-name search** : the most certain driver. The title pairs "Faladdin" with the broad term "Ücretsiz Kahve Falı", and the original can no longer be found in the Turkish store. How much of the traffic comes from search can't be determined from outside.

- **Paid acquisition** : Faladdin spent about $1M over the past year, and there are cases of it working with Digital Turbine and Adjust. The single-day jump in Sep 10 looks like a campaign launch or a rename (inferred). Whether the new package runs ads on Meta is unknown; nothing was found.

- **Existing users** : the same team holds push and email lists from the original's 25.9M installs. Whether they're being directed to the new package is unknown (speculation).

- **Social and press** : almost none. The @faladdin TikTok has 70k followers, and its last post was in April 2025. The Instagram account was blocked in Turkey. No coverage of Faly or Truemium turned up.

### Who it's competing with

Turkish coffee fortune apps have always been crowded, and Faly is still the one with the fewest features (Google Play, 11-06):

| Product | Scale | How Faly differs |
|---|---|---|
| Kaave – Falcı Bacı | 40.9M installs, +22.9k in 7 days | An old player founded 2012, with real human readers and many fortune types, a large catalogue |
| Kısmet | 15.6M installs, +8,066 in 7 days, lifestyle Top Grossing #27 | Free readings 4 times a day, a full set of astrology features, monetizes better than Faly |
| Derya Abla | 17.1M installs | Focused on real human fortune-tellers |
| Fal Sepeti | Only 290k installs, but lifestyle Top Grossing #4 | Small but payment-heavy, human readers and tarot |
| ChatGPT / Gemini | — | Reads a photo of your cup too, but lacks the ritual feel and the daily-free hook |

On product alone it has no real edge: photo → text reading → follow-up chat → ads and credits, a loop at least five or six Turkish apps already run. Its real difference is the name, and a team that once drove 50M downloads. The same company is also building similar small apps: Lumy (title "Kahve Falı, Gerçek Falcı", coffee fortunes with real fortune-tellers), also under Truemium.

### If it were you

**D, worth knowing about, but not worth copying.** It took off thanks to three things a follower can't get: the nationally known Faladdin brand, the gap and returning users left by the original, and the original team that once drove 50M downloads.

**Who it suits** : nobody should copy it directly. The only ones who can use it are teams already building fortune, astrology or spiritual apps, who can treat it as a warning.

**Who it doesn't suit** : any newcomer trying to enter the Turkish fortune market. The leading founder in this market was arrested over "paid fortune-telling" and the case is still pending. Kaave, Kısmet and Derya Abla have been around for over a decade, and with the original team back there's no open gap, plus criminal risk.

**How to do it (if you must take something from this)** : take two tactics and stay out of this market. First, the monetization of "one free reading a day + unlock by watching ads + credit-based in-app purchases + follow-up chat" can be applied to other cultural fortune products, provided the country has no criminal red line on paid fortune-telling. Check that before launch. Second, watch for top apps that suddenly leave a country because of regulation or a platform event. Their brand terms and demand are left open, and whoever moves first captures them. This time, though, the original people came back and filled the gap themselves, and no outsider got to it in 15 months.

**How to acquire users** : in this category the main channels are store search and paid acquisition. Social content is actually a risk in a grey category, since the original's social accounts were blocked by the court along with everything else.

**When it would not apply** : this play only works in the first few months after a ban. This gap ran from 2025 July to 2026 July, and it has already been filled.

**What would mean we got it wrong** : ① a Turkish court or the trustee goes after the new app and it gets pulled in Turkey too. That would show the "rebrand and return" move doesn't work, but it would also mean the gap is open again, and the original team would have a hard time coming back. ② it starts charting and growing in countries outside Turkey. That would mean the product and paid acquisition work on their own, not just on the brand, and it would be worth looking at again.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Store brand-name / keyword search** : the Turkish title is literally "Faladdin: Ücretsiz Kahve Falı". The original iOS app can't be found in the Turkey store, and the original Android app is not on any Turkish chart. The install curve is smooth, 1,300–2,000 a day.

- Inferred **Paid acquisition** : Faladdin reportedly spent about $1M a year on ads and has Digital Turbine / Adjust acquisition cases. The single-day jump of +4,000 on 9-10 looks like paid spend switching on. Our Meta ad library did not track it.

- Inferred **Migration of existing users** : the same team holds the original app's 25.9M-install user base, but we found no evidence they funneled it to the new app.

- Inferred **Social / creators** : @faladdin had 70k TikTok followers and stopped posting after 2025-04. Instagram is blocked in Turkey. We found no promotional content for Faly.

## Why Faladdin: Free Daily Readings (com.truemium.faly) is working

> In short: this is not a new product that broke out. It is **the original team, after Turkey's top fortune-telling app Faladdin was banned by a court in 2025 July and its assets were seized, re-registering under an Estonian company and a new bundle ID and putting the Faladdin name back on Turkey's Google Play** . It rides the brand's existing search demand in Turkey, plus the gap the ban left in the market.

### 1. What it is

- Google Play bundle ID `com.truemium.faly`, developer Truemium Ou, first store listing 2026-07-09 (data card). The Turkish title is "Faladdin: Ücretsiz Kahve Falı" (Faladdin: Free Coffee Reading), and the description calls it "Faly" (googleplay library v_chart 2026-11-06; Play Turkey page).

- What it does: you upload a photo of a coffee cup and get a Turkish coffee-reading interpretation, one free reading a day, with follow-up chat about the reading and a "Canlı sohbet" (live chat) option. Contains ads plus in-app purchases of $1.99–5.99 (data card, Play page). It only does coffee readings, not the original Faladdin's full set of tarot, zodiac, "genie" and other features.

- It charts in only one store, Turkey. There is no matching iOS app (the appstore library, searching by developer Truemium, only finds the original Faladdin).

### 2. Data

| install curve since launch | 8-13 only 177; 9-10 jumped about +4,000 in a single day; from October it held steady at 1,300–2,000 a day; 10-20 passed 50k | AppstoreSpy estimate (app_day_ext) |
| Rating | 1,904 reviews, 4.6 stars, +31~46 reviews a day (about 2.6% of installs, high, which suggests an in-app rating prompt) | googleplay library app_day / Play page |

### 3. Key background: what happened to Faladdin

- Faladdin is a coffee-reading app made by Sertaç Taşdelen in 2017 (he first built the real-person reading app Binnaz in 2012). It claims 50M downloads, 430k reviews and about 5M monthly actives. In 2020 Rest of World reported a $1M-a-year ad budget, and that it beat Tinder on Turkey's Google Play Lifestyle chart (turkishminute 2025-07-16; restofworld 2020).

- **2025-07-16** Istanbul prosecutors investigated paid readings as fraud / money laundering. Taşdelen was detained and later arrested. A court seized his personal assets and all shares in the operating company Arteria Yazılım. The same day, Istanbul's 8th Criminal Court of Peace (case no. 2025/7105) blocked the websites, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook accounts of Faladdin and Binnaz. Several outlets reported that both apps were placed under a trustee (kayyum) (turkishminute, donanimhaber, cumhuriyet, medyascope, imecegazetesi).

- **2025-12-02** After the first hearing, Taşdelen was released under house arrest. The money-laundering charge carries up to 7 years. The case is still ongoing (milliyet, euronews tr, gazeteoksijen).

- **2025-11-26** Truemium OÜ is registered in Estonia with €1 share capital. Its sole director is Kaya Diker, with the registry contact kaya@arteria.ventures. Kaya Diker's LinkedIn calls him "Co-founder & CTO of Faladdin & Binnaz" (inforegister.ee, teatmik.ee, LinkedIn). inforegister estimates Truemium's 2026 revenue at about €1.32M (a registry estimate, not a filed figure).

- Today the original Faladdin (`com.faladdin.app`, 25.9M installs, 236k ratings) and Binnaz (`com.binnazabla.kahvefali`) are both listed on Google Play under Truemium Ou. The iOS seller for Faladdin is also Truemium. Truemium's website lists Faladdin and Binnaz as "partner apps we publish" (Play developer page, itunes lookup, truemium.studio). The faladdin.com footer names Dubai-based "Number 33 Technology – FZCO".

- **The original disappeared from Turkey** : the iTunes lookup for `id1201725025&country=tr` returns 0 results (other countries return results). In our data the original Faladdin charted in 16 stores' Lifestyle Top Grossing charts (best #132), **but never on any chart in Turkey** . Over 7 days it gained installs only 2,104 times (appstore/googleplay library). We could not directly confirm whether the Android original was also pulled in Turkey, but from the charts and install growth it is at least no longer acquiring users there.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **The brand didn't die, it came back in a new shell** . Turkish users searching "Faladdin" can no longer find the original in the store. What's left is an app whose title is literally "Faladdin: Ücretsiz Kahve Falı", with the icon style carried over. Faladdin is a household name in Turkey (it got national coverage, and the ban itself made headlines again), so the search demand already exists. A new bundle ID, an Estonian entity and a new developer account sidestep the trustee / seized Arteria assets and the court block on the original brand's channels.

2. **The ban opened a gap** . Turkey's coffee-reading leaders used to be Faladdin, Kaave, Binnaz, Derya Abla and Kısmet. After Faladdin and Binnaz left Turkey, the market was left with older products for 15 months. Faly went from launch to Turkey's highest-ranked free fortune-telling app in 4 months.

3. **Same team, same playbook** . The same people built the 50M-download product with the same model: one free reading a day, unlock by watching ads, buy credits, and deepen spending through live chat. They have run this monetization since 2017. Faly reached Turkey's Lifestyle Top Grossing chart around #60 with only 70k installs, which means paid conversion was working from day one.

4. **Deliberately narrow and low-profile** . The listing talks only about "traditional Turkish coffee reading" and "cultural ritual", with the line "don't believe it, but don't skip it". It downplays "predicting the future" and targets exactly the charge prosecutors raised, profiting from religious belief and emotion. No tarot or psychic features, no iOS app, no social media.

### 5. Where users come from (growth tactics)

| Channel | Evidence | Verification status |
|---|---|---|
| Store search / brand keywords ("Faladdin", "kahve falı") | The Turkish title uses the Faladdin brand plus the "Ücretsiz Kahve Falı" keyword. The original vanished from the Turkish store. Installs run smoothly at 1,300–2,000 a day, unlike the spikes of a viral content hit. | Yes (title and the original's disappearance are confirmed; the share of search traffic is an inference) |
| Paid acquisition (Google UAC etc.) | Faladdin reportedly spent about $1M a year on ads and has Digital Turbine / Adjust acquisition cases. The single-day jump of +4,000 on 9-10 looks like paid spend switching on, or a rename / new creative. Our Meta ad library did not track any Truemium / Faladdin pages. | No (no evidence, not ruled out) |
| Existing social media | @faladdin TikTok 70.7k followers, last post 2025-04; Instagram 480k followers, banned in Turkey; no new content found driving traffic to Faly (TikHub search, x-radar 0 posts) | No |
| Cross-promotion from existing users | The same team holds a user base from the original 25.9M-install Faladdin (push, email), but the original no longer works for Turkish users; I couldn't verify whether they were redirected to the new app | No (inferred) |
| Media / creators | No coverage of Faly / Truemium found; the news is all about the 2025 ban and trial | No |

### 6. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay / appstore libraries, 2026-11-06) | Differences from Faly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original Faladdin (com.faladdin.app) | Android / iOS | 2017 | 25.9M installs, 236k ratings; Lifestyle Top Grossing #130–150 in the 16 store; +2,104 over 7 days | Same team, same brand, all categories (coffee / tarot / astrology / genie), targeting international and Gulf markets; **not sold in Turkey** , so Faly is its stand-in for Turkey |
| Kaave – Falcı Bacı(Didilabs BV) | Android / iOS | 2012 | 40.9M installs, +22.9k over 7 days; Turkey Entertainment free #40 | An established Dutch-based brand with live readers and multiple divination types; the pool is large, but its new installs aren't much higher than Faly's |
| Kısmet(Somon Teknoloji) | Android / iOS | 2022 | 15.6M installs, +8,066 over 7 days; Turkey Lifestyle Top Grossing #27 | 4 free readings per day, a "longest reading" feature, AI-driven with a full zodiac lineup; monetizes better than Faly |
| Derya Abla – Kahve Falı(FlyBit) | Android / iOS | 2013 | 17.1M installs; iOS Turkey 65k ratings. | Focused on real human fortune-tellers |
| Binnaz (same team) | Android | 2012 | Play rating 4.2 stars, now labeled "Live Psychic Reading" | Live advisor consultations, banned alongside Faladdin, now lists Truemium |
| Fal Sepeti(Lumra Tech) | Android / iOS | 2017 | 290k installs, but Turkey Lifestyle **Top Grossing #4** | Small catalogue, heavy paywall, real-person and tarot readings. |
| Astromatik(Astroloop) | Android | — | 177k installs, Turkey Lifestyle Top Grossing #14 | AI birth-chart app, no coffee reading |
| FaldanAdam, Fal Diyarı, falbakar.io (web), and others | iOS / Android / web | 2015–2017 / recent years | iOS Turkey 1.6–33k ratings; web reach unknown. | AI or live coffee readings, long tail |
| ChatGPT / Gemini reading photos | Big-company features | — | — | You can photograph a cup and have it interpreted directly, but it lacks ritual, a daily free hook, and the "fortune teller" persona |

Verdict: **the category is crowded, and the product itself isn't new** ; Faly has fewer features than Kısmet or the original Faladdin.

### 7. What's the differentiation, and is it why it broke out?

- Almost no product-level differentiation: coffee photo → text reading → chat follow-ups → ads / credits monetization, with at least five or six Turkish competitors doing the same.

- The real difference is **the "Faladdin" name + an operations team that already drove 50M downloads** , plus a legal reset: new entity, new package name, and a narrower "cultural ritual" framing. That's why it's running, not product strength.

### 8. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility** : The Faladdin brand is well known in Turkey, but we found no coverage, X discussion, or TikTok content about "it returned to Turkey as Truemium / Faly"; revenue isn't public, only an Estonian registry revenue estimate (about €1.32M, 2026, estimated). Counts as "few people know yet."

- **Copycats** : None. The same entity is running similar small apps: Lumy (tarot, com.truemium.lumy), also under Truemium.

### 9. What others can learn

- When a major player suddenly exits a country due to regulatory or platform events, its brand search terms and user demand open up, and whoever fills them first captures them (here, the same team filled them). Watch store search terms in countries where large apps have been delisted or banned.

- Compliance-minded packaging for a gray category: soften "prediction" in the listing, emphasize "culture / entertainment," and launch only on platforms and in regions you can control, avoiding iOS and social media at first.

- One free reading per day + watch ads to unlock + in-app credits + chat follow-ups: this divination monetization model can carry over to other cultural divinations (tea leaves, tarot, BaZi, etc.).

### 10. Still unclear

- Whether the original Faladdin Android app on Turkey's Play Store was removed, geo-locked, or simply stopped being promoted; and how many of Faly's Turkish users come from brand search versus paid acquisition.

- What caused the single-day +4,000 on Sep 10 (starting paid promotion, the rename to Faladdin, or push notifications to old users)? The store title change date was not verified.

- The Turkish case is still under review. Whether Faly, using the Faladdin name, gets banned again or faces claims from the hosting provider is this product's biggest risk.

- The data card's developer total installs of about 26M are almost all from the original Faladdin and should not be credited to Faly.
