Turbo Cleaner · Çağlar Türker

# An old Turkish crossword game account pushed a phone cleaner app into the Korean Tools chart in two months: Turbo Cleaner's numbers were bought, not grown

**What it is** An ad-supported Android phone cleaner that clears cache, large files and photos. Its features are much like Samsung's built-in device maintenance.

**Why it took off** Two or three apps from the same account, including the cleaner and a PDF app, were pushed together with concentrated paid placements (likely incentivized installs of the "install apps to earn money" kind, unconfirmed). That pushed them onto the Korean Tools free chart, where a few thousand installs a day can rank 30–40. The name also matches an old Korean PC cleaning program.

**C** **How you could follow this** Don't copy the cleaner app as is. Teams already running tool portfolios can learn the distribution method: pick low-barrier "country × category" charts, test several local must-have categories from one account (such as HWP / PDF viewers in Korea), scale what works, and kill what doesn't.

Grade C: the playbook is learnable, but the product has no differentiation and built-in features can replace it. The Korean tools chart is already crowded with matrix accounts running the same formula, and its own growth is slowing. It also relies on an old account that passed review, so the whole account could be banned at any time. Few people know about it yet

Turbo Cleaner is a fairly ordinary Android cleaning tool. It was listed in Sep 3 and reached 6k Google Play installs by Nov 125, ranking only on the Korean Tools free chart. It's worth a look not for the product but for the playbook behind it: a long-running individual developer account, three tool apps ramped up at the same time, and a low-barrier country category chart. Below: how it got up there, where the money comes from, who it's competing with, and whether you should copy it.

### "I've tried so many times to make money this way, and never got a single cent."

In Oct 2026 16, a Korean user named 김규남 left a five-star review on the store page of PDF Reader & Sign with crooked spelling: "They said I could make money, I've done it countless times, and to this day I haven't gotten a penny. Please handle this. Don't deceive people." By early November, 116 people had marked it helpful.

PDF Reader & Sign and Turbo Cleaner are sibling apps under the same developer account. A PDF reader has nothing to do with "making money," so this review suggests the user was brought in by something like an "install apps to earn" offer (inferred). Turbo Cleaner's own reviews have the same feel: in Oct 25, a user named "이만원" (20,000 won) posted an English message that didn't make sense, with a string of emoji; in another Oct 30 review, a user wrote only four words, "삭제해주세요" (please delete it) (Play Korea page, 11-06).

This is not the review section an app that grew through word of mouth would have.

### What it is

Store page claims: junk cache cleaning, large file cleaning, photo management, storage management, device scanning, battery info, "one-tap clean." Contains ads, no in-app purchases. The version number shown at listing is 8.0, and there have been no updates since Sep 17. The Korean page's data safety section says two unusual things: "data not encrypted" and "data cannot be deleted."

On features, nothing it does is beyond what Samsung's built-in "device care" and Files by Google already do, and in Korea Samsung models make up the great majority of phones.

### How the volume built up

Google Play install count (the early figures are third-party estimates):

| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 09-25 | 3,172 |
| 10-08 | 33,672 |
| 10-24 | 101,640 |
| 11-06 | 124,566 |

In mid-October it was adding about 4,200 new installs a day; after Oct 24 that dropped to about 1,800 a day, and the last two days were around 2,500. 7 new installs over the last 18,118 days. 226 ratings against 125k installs gives a rating rate of about 0.18%; organic users usually rate far more than that.

Looking at it alone shows nothing. Put the three apps from the same account side by side and the picture is clear:

- **Clean Go** : launched Aug 5, another cleaner app, package name `com.cleanmaster.memorycleaner`, riding on Clean Master's name. Oct 2 8,142 installs, Oct 26 850k, averaging about 35k a day over 24 days; then it suddenly dropped to about 4,300 a day. That's the shape of paid acquisition being switched off (inferred).

- **PDF Reader & Sign** : listed Sep 16, 6k installs by Nov 176, ranked #6 on the Korean Tools free chart and #35 on the overall Apps chart. This is the one being pushed harder now.

- **Turbo Cleaner** : the smallest of the three.

The three apps jumped together around Oct 4 and 8, then rose together again on 13, 17 and 22. Organic growth would not line up this neatly; it looks more like the same operator buying traffic in batches (inferred. The third-party estimates only count observed days, and the jumps include sampling effects).

The exact channel can't be confirmed. The visible clues: the reviews read like Korean "앱테크" users (earning through app installs, tasks and points redeemed for cash), with a tone that skews older. There is zero discussion on TikTok and X, and no media coverage.

### Why the Korean tools chart

Because it's cheap. Holding the #39 spot on the Korean Play tools free chart takes only about 2–3k installs a day. Turbo Cleaner sat between #29 and #6 on that chart from Oct 24 through Nov 43, and on Nov 3 and 5 it even reached #166 and #178 on the Korean overall Apps chart. Once charted, it picks up some extra organic traffic from chart browsing and cleaner-related searches.

There may also be a boost from the name. 「터보클리너」 (Turbo Cleaner) is an old Korean Windows cleaning program that for years was bundled into installers of common software like 알약 and 네이트온. Clean Go also sounds like GoClean (고클린), another old Korean PC cleaner. For users who are used to PCs, especially older ones, the names look familiar. But "Turbo Cleaner" is also a generic name: Play has at least one other app with the same name (CN CodeHub's Turbo Cleaner - Junk Clean, 3.41M installs, charting in 9 countries). How much the name helped is hard to say.

### Who is behind the account

The developer is Çağlar Türker, and the account has existed for 2021 years. Early apps were Turkish-language crossword games, religious knowledge quizzes, TV remote controls and live wallpapers, each with tens to thousands of installs. Starting May 2026 the output changed sharply, with batches of Photo Recovery, Clean Go, Turbo Cleaner, PDF Reader & Sign, PDF scanning, QR codes and video downloaders: the standard "tool matrix" (chrome-stats, AppInsider's developer timeline).

The developer info on the Play page says more: the address is 33 Margaret Street, London, which is the UK headquarters of property firm Savills; the phone number starts with +62, an Indonesian code; the website is a photo recovery template page claiming "10M+ downloads," while all the apps on the account add up to about 1.2M.

An older individual account bought or rented by a team running a tool matrix, used to get around new-account review and risk controls. This is common on Play. It is most likely what happened here (inferred; the actual operator has not been verified).

### Where the money comes from

Only ads. The typical cleaner-app flow is open, scan, clean, with interstitial and rewarded ads in between. Users leave once they're done, so retention is basically nonexistent. Ad prices on Korean Android are high by Asian standards, and if acquisition cost per install is low enough, even one-time impressions can pay off. How much it actually earned is not visible from outside. The in-app purchase revenue of PDF Reader & Sign, from the same account, is estimated by third parties at under $5,000 a month, and since Turbo Cleaner has no IAP at all, that number says nothing about its ad income.

### Who it's competing with

In Nov 6, about 21 of the top 200 Free Utilities apps in the Korean store were cleaner apps:

| Competitors | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Device Care / Files by Google | Built into the system or billions of installs | No ads, and the features are largely covered |
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner(Codeway) | 36.5M installs, 7 day +960k, #1 on the Korean tools chart | Global paid acquisition plus subscriptions, about 300 times the scale |
| CleanX(TapSuite) | 4M installs, 7 day +510k, #2 on the Korean tools chart | Also launched this year, focused on Korea, and growing an order of magnitude faster |
| AI Cleaner: Storage Optimize | 1.19M installs, #7 on the Korean Tools chart | Launched in the same period, riding the AI buzz |
| Phone Cleaner - AI Cleaner | 2.15M installs, #13 on the Korean Tools chart | Also a tool-matrix developer |
| 알약 / V3 Mobile | 알약 23.9M installs | A Korean domestic security brand, with cleaning built in |

Looking further down, the Korean tools chart is full of matrix accounts running the same formula: LemonCat Studio, Techverse, OneTap Tools, ProTech Tools, LuminousByte, ZentrixSoft, OrionMobi… Each one runs the same bundle of "PDF / HWP viewer + cleaner + photo recovery + GPS." Turbo Cleaner is not the one being copied. It is the one doing the copying.

### If it were you

**In one line** : don't copy a cleaner app as is. What's worth learning is the distribution method behind it, and it only suits teams already running a tool matrix.

**Who it suits** : small teams that already have several tool apps on the store, run Google app promotion or incentive channels, can calculate cost per install versus ad revenue, and hold a developer account that reliably passes review.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie developers who want word of mouth and long-term users from one product (there is no retention here and no product differentiation); anyone without a paid acquisition budget relying on organic traffic; anyone who can't accept the risk of the whole account being banned.

**How to do it** : learn three things. First, pick small pools: find a "country × category" with decent ad rates and a low chart barrier (the #40 Korean tools spot takes only about 2–3k installs a day), and get chart exposure first. Second, test several categories in rotation from one account, cleaning, PDF and recovery together, scale whichever works, and cut whichever doesn't (Clean Go slowed after Oct 26, while PDF Reader kept climbing). Third, build for local must-haves rather than global generic features. In Korea, HWP / PDF viewers have more footing than cleaners; PDF Reader now sitting at #6 is an example.

**How to acquire users** : mainly paid. Start with a small budget in batches, and check whether chart rank and per-install ad revenue break even before scaling. Incentivized traffic and "earn money" ads do drive volume, but the cost shows up in the reviews: Turbo Cleaner's Korean rating has already dropped from 5.0 to 4.0.

**Timing** : no rush. This is not a window-type opportunity. But cleaning apps are a focus of Play policy enforcement (misleading features, ads), and it will only get harder later.

**What would show this read is wrong** : (1) Turbo Cleaner or PDF Reader & Sign still holds a top 30 spot on the Korean tools chart after December, and real long reviews start appearing. That would mean they keep real users, and this is more than a user-buying business. (2) The opposite: if the account is wholesale removed within a few months, it means the "old account + misleading claims" route has been caught by Play, and the method isn't worth learning either.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Device Care / Storage Cleaner | Big-company features | Built into the system | Samsung models make up most of Korea's phones and come with it out of the box | System-level, no ads, and covers its main features |

Where users come from

- Inference **Concentrated paid promotion** : three apps under the same account jump in sync around 10-04, 10-08, 10-13, 10-17, 10-22; Clean Go rises 840k over 24 days, then abruptly stops; rating rate only 0.1–0.18%

- Inference **Incentivized 'earn-money' apps or misleading 'make money' ads** : reviews on the same account's PDF app say "said you can make money, did it countless times, never got a single won"; a Turbo Cleaner user is called 이만원 with the comment "please delete"; someone asked under an app with no accounts how to delete their account; reviewers skew middle-aged and older

- **Verified** **Korean tools chart and store search** : ranked #24–#43 in Korea's TOOLS Top Free, reached #166 on the Korea overall chart; #39 on the tools chart needs only about 2–3 thousand installs a day

- Inference **Riding a known local name** : '터보 클리너' has the same name as the long-running Korean PC cleaner turbocleaner.co.kr, and its Korean description uses '터보 클리너'; sibling app Clean Go's name is close to 고클린, with cleanmaster in its package name; but 'Turbo Cleaner' is also a generic name, and other same-named apps exist on Play

- Inference **Content / social / media** : x-radar shows zero mentions in the last 60 days, no related TikTok videos, no media coverage

## Why Turbo Cleaner (com.turbocleaner.clean) managed to break through

> Channel: Google Play | Developer account: Çağlar Türker | Launched 2026-09-03 | Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It can hardly be said to have broken through on the product's merits. It is one piece of a tools app matrix: 'clean + PDF + photo recovery' sits under a personal developer account from Turkey that is 2021 years old, which is most likely bought or rented. The matrix pushed these apps up one by one into the **Korean Play tools Top Free chart** with concentrated promotion (likely incentive or 'earn money' traffic), monetizing through ads. Turbo Cleaner is the smallest of the three: 125k total installs, with daily adds falling from about 4,000 in mid-October to about 1,800–2,500 now. The playbook itself can be copied, but it has no differentiation and is not worth treating as a product opportunity.

### 1. Data

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Cumulative global installs | 124,566(11-06) | googleplay library app_day |
| 7 daily new | 18,118 | Google Play library app_profile |
| Install curve | 09-25 3,172 → 10-08 33,672 → 10-24 101,640 → 11-06 124,566 | googleplay library app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimate) + app_day |
| Average daily new installs | 10-08 to 10-24 about 4,200/day; 10-24 to 11-06 about 1,800/day; last two days about 2,500/day | Same as above, our own calculation |
| Charts | Charted only on Korea's TOOLS Top Free, between #24–#43 from 10-29 to 11-06; 11-03 and 11-05 reached #166 and #178 on the Korea overall chart | googleplay library chart_rank |
| Rating | 226 reviews; US store page shows 5.0, all five-star (histogram [0,0,0,0,226]); Korean store page shows 4.0, 225 reviews | googleplay library app_snap; Play Korea store page |
| Ratings ÷ installs | About 0.18% | Our own calculation |
| Monetization | Contains ads, no in-app purchases | app_snap(ad_supported=True, offers_iap=False) |
| Version | No updates after 8.0,09-17 | app_snap |

The other two apps under the same account (both charted only in Korea):

- **Clean Go** (`com.cleanmaster.memorycleaner`, package name borrows Clean Master): launched 08-05. At 10-02 it had 8,142 installs; over days 10-26 to 849,525,24 it averaged about 35k/day; after 10-26 it dropped sharply to about 4,300/day, 11-06 is 897,191. Ranked #21–#37 on Korea's tools Top Free. ASO Lab recorded its peak as #20 on **India** 's Top Free chart, showing early growth was not all from Korea. (googleplay library app_day_ext / app_day; getasolab.com)

- **PDF Reader & Sign** (`com.allpdf.reader.sign.view`): launched 09-16; 11-06 is 176,353 installs, #6 on Korea's tools Top Free and #35 on the Korea overall chart, currently the strongest of the matrix. (googleplay library)

Installs for the three apps surged at the same time: around 10-04 and 10-08 all three jumped in sync, and around 10-13, 10-17, 10-22 they rose together again. This looks like one operator concentrating spend, not organic growth in each app. Note that AppstoreSpy only observes install counts daily, so part of the single-day jumps may be sampling artifacts.

### 2. Developer account: almost certainly not an 'independent developer from Turkey'

- The account has been **active since 2021** (AppBrain). chrome-stats lists 11 apps for this account, including Turkish small apps `com.alartrker.karmakelimebulmaca` (crossword) and `com.caglar.dinibilgidiniyarisma` (religious knowledge quiz), plus Nexus Remote (TV remote / IPTV), Live Wallpaper 4K, color pickers and the like, each with only tens to thousands of installs. Starting 2026-05 the profile changed sharply, launching Photo Recovery, Clean Go, Turbo Cleaner, PDF Reader & Sign, PDF Go & Scan, QR Reader, and Video Downloader, a standard 'tools matrix' pattern. (chrome-stats.com/a/…Türker; AppInsider timeline)

- The Play page's 'developer information' lists **SAVILLS (UK) LIMITED, 33 Margaret Street London** , the London headquarters address of a real estate company; the phone number is **+62 (Indonesia)** ; the contact email is caglarilimturker@gmail.com. (Play Korea store page)

- The site caglarilimturker.com is a landing template for Photo Recovery, claiming "10M+ Downloads", which doesn't match the account's actual total (about 1.2M). All three apps' privacy policies are hosted on Google Sites.

- Conclusion: this is an older personal developer account bought or rented by a team running a tools matrix to get around new-account review and risk controls; where the actual operator is based was not verified, and the phone number points to Indonesia.

### 3. Where users come from

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid / concentrated promotion traffic | Three apps grew at the same time, in clear bursts; Clean Go rose 24k over 840 days and then abruptly stopped, the shape of an ad budget being switched off; rating rate only 0.1–0.18%, far below organic users | Inferred, not confirmed |
| Incentivized 'apptech' (install apps to earn points) traffic, or 'make money' ads misleading users into installing | A PDF Reader review says "said you can make money, did it countless times, never got a single won, don't lie to people"; a Turbo Cleaner user is called 이만원 (20,000 won) with the comment "please delete"; under PDF Reader someone asked "how do I delete my account" (this app has no accounts at all). Judging by spelling and tone, reviewers skew middle-aged and older, the core audience of Korean 앱테크 (apptech). | Leads, unconfirmed |
| Exposure from Korean tools charts | #39 on Korea's tools Top Free needs only about 2–3 thousand installs a day (global basis); once charted, it draws on store searches for '클리너'-type terms and chart traffic | Partially confirmed (chart placement confirmed, organic share unknown) |
| Name piggybacking or search terms | 'Turbo Cleaner / 터보 클리너' is the name of the long-running Korean PC cleaner 터보클리너 (turbocleaner.co.kr, often bundled into 알약 and 네이트온 installers). Clean Go and the Korean PC cleaner 고클린 (GoClean, 30M downloads) differ only in word order, and its package name uses cleanmaster. Middle-aged and older PC users are familiar with these names, which may give a click advantage. But 'Turbo Cleaner' is also a generic name: on Play, at least CN CodeHub's Turbo Cleaner - Junk Clean (3.41M installs) and com.cleaner.turbo use it too | Name overlap confirmed; how much it contributes to installs is unconfirmed |
| Ad libraries | Our Meta, Google and TikTok ad libraries do not include these three apps. They are not on our tracking list, so not finding them doesn't mean they weren't advertised. | Unknown |
| Content / social | Zero mentions on X (x-radar, last 60 days); TikTok search for 'turbo cleaner app' shows no related videos; no media coverage | Confirmed none |

### 4. Why it could retain users or make money

Retention is basically not a factor. The typical pattern for cleaner apps is that users scan and clean once, then leave; revenue comes from interstitial / rewarded ads during scanning and cleaning (Play lists 'Contains ads', no in-app purchases). Ad CPMs on Korean Android are high by Asian standards, and the tools chart bar is low, so 'paid or incentivized traffic → one-off ad impressions' works as long as the cost per install is low enough. AppGazers estimates PDF Reader & Sign's store revenue at under $5,000 per month (this counts only in-app purchases; ad revenue is not included).

### 5. Competitors

Roughly 21 of the top 200 apps on Korea's tools Top Free (11-06) are cleaner-type apps; Turbo Cleaner is #39 (googleplay library chart_rank).

| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale | Differences from Turbo Cleaner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Device Care / storage cleanup | Big-company features | Built into the system | Samsung models make up most of Korea's phones and come with it out of the box | System-level, no ads; the system already does most of what Turbo Cleaner does |
| Files by Google (cleaner) | Big-company features | 2017 | Billions of installs | Official, no ads |
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner(Codeway) | Android | About 2025-11 | 36.5M installs, 7 day +960k, #1 on the Korean tools chart | Large-scale global paid acquisition + subscriptions; about 300 times Turbo Cleaner's scale |
| CleanX(TapSuite) | Android | About 2026-05 | 4M installs, 7 day +510k, #2 on the Korean tools chart | Also a new clean-up app targeting Korea, same timing, but it grew much faster and charted in Top Grossing |
| AI Cleaner: Storage Optimize(AI Translator) | Android | About 2026-08 | 1.19M installs, 7 day +180k, #7 on the Korean tools chart | Launched around the same time, AI-themed |
| Phone Cleaner - AI Cleaner(Trusted Mobile Utilities) | Android | About 2026-06 | 2.15M installs, #13 on the Korean Tools chart | Also a tool-matrix developer |
| Turbo Cleaner - Junk Clean(CN CodeHub) | Android | About 2026-04 | 3.41M installs, charting in 9 countries | Same name, about 27 times the scale, multi-country distribution; it also holds the search term 'Turbo Cleaner' |
| Clean Go (same account) | Android | 2026-08 | 900k installs | Sibling app under the same account, nearly identical features (duplicate photos, large files) |
| 알약(Dr.Capsule,ESTsecurity)/ V3 Mobile Security(AhnLab) | Android | Years | 알약 23.9M installs | A Korean domestic security brand, with cleaning built in |
| 터보클리너 / 고클린(PC) | Others (Windows) | Years | 고클린 claims 30M downloads | A Korean PC cleaner brand with the same name as these two apps |

Competitor data comes from the googleplay library app_profile(11-06); launch dates are estimated from days_since_release.

### 6. Differentiation

Nothing. The features (junk, large files, photos, storage, battery info) are standard cleaner-template fare, and the version number starting at 8.0 suggests reused code. The real "difference" is at the distribution layer:

1. Published from old accounts;

2. Targets only the Korean tools chart, a low-bar, higher-CPM niche;

3. The name sits right next to a PC cleaning brand Koreans already know;

4. One account rotates through cleaner, PDF, and recovery categories, scaling whichever one runs (currently PDF Reader).

These explain how it reached 120k installs, but they aren't product differentiation.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue isn't public, no media coverage, zero discussion on X or TikTok: **almost nobody knows about it** . But chart sites like AppInsider, ASO Lab, chrome-stats, and AppGazers have already indexed it automatically.

- Copycats: no one is copying it. It's copying itself. The Korean tools chart is full of matrix accounts running the same playbook, like LemonCat Studio, Techverse, OneTap Tools, ProTech Tools, LuminousByte, ZentrixSoft, and OrionMobi, all bundling "PDF / HWP viewer + cleaner + photo recovery + GPS" (googleplay library, Korea tools free chart 11-06).

### 8. What others can borrow

- **Small-pool chart climbing** : the top 40 spots on Korea's Play tools free chart need only 2–3 thousand installs a day, and HWP viewer, PDF, and cleaner are real needs locally. A small budget buys chart visibility.

- **One account, several categories tested in rotation** : scale whatever gains traction, kill what doesn't (Clean Go slowed sharply after 10-26, and PDF Reader took over).

- **Old account + a familiar local name** : sidesteps new-account restrictions while borrowing a PC software name locals already recognize.

- Risks: cleaners are exactly what Play policy (misleading features, ads) scrutinizes; old accounts and fake addresses get whole accounts banned; incentivized review farming damages ratings (Korea already dropped from 5.0 to 4.0).

### 9. What's uncertain

- Who actually operates it (Indonesian phone number, London real-estate company address) is unverified.

- Which channel drives the installs: Google UAC, a Korean incentive wall, or misleading ads inside other apps. Reviews are only a lead, and the ad library has no coverage.

- Share of installs from Korea: it charts only in Korea, but Clean Go charted in India early on.

- The US store page shows 226 reviews, all five-star, while Korea shows 4.0. Cause unknown (possibly early five-star seeding, or Play's per-region display).

- Ad revenue and whether unit economics pencil out are unknown.
