# One "exam-prep girl" account, one video with 4.2M views: Typed AI sells AI-generated quizzes, and TikTok is what won it

**What it is** An AI study tool for Spanish civil service exam candidates. Upload lecture PDFs or pick built-in laws, and it auto-generates multiple-choice questions, flashcards, and mock exams, schedules review on a forgetting curve, and costs €9–12 a month.

**Why it took off** The web version has been around for about three years, and when the app launched, existing users moved over. Several "exam-prep girl" TikTok accounts have taken over the "AI study" content niche. The main account's best video hit 4.2M views, and at the end of September they started running sales ads on TikTok.

**B** **How you could follow** Don't copy it in Spain. Take "national exam × AI quizzes from your own notes" to markets like Italy, France, or Portugal, where civil service exams are also big. Start with a web version and SEO, then run 3–5 study-persona accounts posting study-method videos daily. Add the app and paid acquisition once organic traffic is in place.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and easy to port to other countries, and few people know about it yet. But the product itself is easy to build and has no moat. Revenue can only be inferred from chart rankings, at a few thousand to maybe €10–20K a month. The hard-to-copy part, the persona-account content machine, takes a long time to pay off. Typed AI is an AI study tool from a small Barcelona company for Spanish civil service exam candidates. Upload a PDF of your notes, and it auto-generates multiple-choice questions, flashcards, and mock exams. The app launched in October. In its first month, Google Play recorded 6,475 installs, and on iOS it sat around #30 in Spain's Education top charts. But it isn't a new product: the web version has been running for about three years. Its features are nearly identical to a dozen similar tools, and what really drove growth was a TikTok persona-account operation that's been running for over a year. Anyone who wants to follow should copy that playbook, and do it in a different country.

### A "psychopath study method" video

In 2026 March 24, the TikTok account @maria_typedai posted a video titled "Remake del Método de estudio del psicópata 🔪" (a remake of the "psychopath's study method"). By Nov 6, the video had 4.2M views, 527k likes, and 224k saves. The top comment (56k likes) reads: "What third day? The exam is tomorrow, sis." Other comments ask: "Are you studying with AI?? I thought you had to do it yourself" and "What if the exam isn't multiple choice?"

The account's bio reads "Studying for civil service with AI / Typed AI ambassador." It has 48.7k followers, 2.46M likes, and 1,080 posts (TikTok, 11-06). Its two pinned videos have 2.52M and 1.7M views (January). Recent posts mostly get a few hundred to ten thousand views. Hits are partly luck, and the strategy is to post several times a day.

### What it is

Spaniards call civil service exams oposiciones. They take a year or two of prep and require memorizing entire law codes. Typed AI lets candidates upload their own notes, or choose from 12k built-in laws (filterable by autonomous community). It then auto-generates multiple-choice questions, summaries, and flashcards, and schedules review on a forgetting curve. Mock exams can be set to the same timing as the real test, with penalties for wrong answers. Questions you get wrong go into an error log (Google Play store page).

Pricing: the free plan allows uploading 3 documents of 40 pages each. The basic plan is €8.99/month, the premium plan €11.99/month, and annual billing is cheaper (website, 11-06). The TikTok ads say "from €7.19 a month minimum." Compared with prep courses that cost hundreds of euros, candidates will pay this without much hesitation. A 5-star iOS review puts it bluntly: "If you want to pass without paying for an expensive prep course, Typed is the best option, no question" (10-10).

The company is TYPED AI STUDIES S.L., founded by Jordi B., an Esade grad. He posted "Typed AI — the best AI for exam prep" on LinkedIn in mid-2023. So the web version has been running for a while.

### How it got 6,475 installs a month

| Date | Google Play cumulative installs | Spain education, Top Free |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 5,576 | #73 |
| 11-03 | 6,318 | #106 |
| 11-06 | 6,475 | #86 |

Released on Play in Oct 2, Spain only, +899 over the last 7 days (Google Play, 11-06). Released on iOS in Oct 6, 45 ratings, 4.7 stars. Best rank on the Spain education Top Grossing chart: #30 (10-29), 11-06 #33. The Spain education Top Grossing bar is low; monthly revenue is estimated at a few thousand to ~€10–20K, unverified. For reference, OpositaTest, a ten-year-old manual question bank, has 790k installs on Play and ranks #7 in education Top Grossing.

Three sources drove the early traffic:

**Existing users moved over.** On iOS launch day a string of 5 stars came in, including one saying: "Finally an app! I've used the web version for a long time." (10-06) The same day two English reviews said "Great and Useful App" and "Amazing idea, great product!" A Spanish exam app getting English praise likely means the team and friends were seeding reviews to cold-start it (inference). On Instagram it claims "90k+ users"; this can't be verified.

**A matrix of persona accounts on TikTok.** Besides maria, there are @claudia_typed, @lucia_typedai, @ruby_typedai, @alexandra_typedai, and @opositora.101_typed, all posing as "a student preparing for an exam," with "typed" in the handle. They rotate the same caption template: "Envíaselo a esa persona que tmb necesite verlo 💖 la web es typedai.com" (send it to that person who needs to see this too), word for word across three accounts. The content is study vlogs, study methods, "best AI tools for exam prep" rankings, and feature tutorials. The brand account @typed.ai has only 116 followers; all the traffic is on the persona accounts. Searching "app oposiciones ia" on TikTok, roughly half of the top 30 videos come from these accounts (11-06).

**TikTok paid acquisition.** In the TikTok ad library, Typed AI Studies S.L.'s first ad ran in Sep 21, Spain only; 11-06 has 18 ads running, all video, objective "Sales." The timing lines up with the App launch.

There are two slower channels too: the website has 9,890 regional exam-announcement pages, a dozen-plus free practice-question pages split by law (Constitution, 39/2015 Administrative Procedure Act…), and 4 "Typed vs competitor" comparison pages, capturing long-tail search. It also has one B2B case study: CaixaBank's union UGT uses it to help members prepare for internal promotion exams.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | What it is | How it differs from Typed |
|---|---|---|
| OpositaTest | Veteran since 2015, iOS / Android / web | 300k human-written questions, no generative AI; Typed builds questions from your own notes, so it works for niche exams too |
| Testualia, Elaia, OpoRuta, Toposiciones, Opositor.ai, opositest.ai… | Spanish-language sites that appeared in 2024–2026 | Nearly identical features: upload PDFs, AI-generated questions, spaced repetition; most have no app and no content matrix |
| ChatGPT / NotebookLM | Big-tech general tools | OpositaTest's survey says 27% of candidates use AI, and 87% of those use ChatGPT. Typed wins by packaging question generation, review, mock exams, and a law library into a ready-made workflow. |

The product has no moat: everyone is calling the same LLMs. OpoRuta is already attacking its weak spot with "questions checked against official gazette law text," and an iOS reviewer gave it 3 stars: "I wouldn't hand my study notes to an AI I don't even know which model is behind." (11-03) Typed is the one of these dozen-odd apps that's actually scaling, because it's been at it for two or three years and built up web users, SEO pages and those few TikTok accounts.

### What to learn from it

First, the "national exam × AI questions from your own notes" format can travel to other countries: France's concours, Italy's concorsi pubblici, Portugal's and Latin America's concursos públicos, and Germany's driving-theory tests.

Second, the order: start on the web, catch search with programmatic SEO (exam announcements, single-law question pages, competitor comparison pages); at the same time run 4–6 persona accounts with a shared template and several posts a day to own content like "best AI tool for exam prep"; once organic traffic exists, launch the app, and only then run TikTok sales ads.

Third, note that 4.2M-view video: many commenters say "my exam is tomorrow" and "my exam isn't multiple choice." The viewers are mostly ordinary students, not necessarily civil-service candidates, and many of the phrasings sound Latin American (inference). Viral videos bring exposure; conversion still depends on vertical keywords and ads.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : B. Don't go to Spain; a dozen-plus similar players are already there, and Typed holds TikTok. The opportunity is to take its playbook to a country nobody is seriously working yet. But the product itself is easy for anyone to build; the real contest is whether you can sustain a persona-account machine that ships content every day.

**Who it suits** : 1–2 people, one of whom is a native speaker of the target country, has taken or knows someone taking that country's civil-service or licensing exams, and can make study videos candidates would share; and another who can build a "upload PDF → generate questions → review" web app in a week or two.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who only write code and won't film and edit videos every day; anyone aiming at Spain or the English market; anyone counting on "more accurate AI questions" to win. Everyone can build the features; the difference is distribution.

**How to do it** : pick a market with long exam cycles, heavy law memorization, and candidates willing to pay (look at Italy's concorsi, France's concours, and Portugal's concursos first). Launch on the web first, with the country's most-tested laws built in and each answer cited to official text (Typed's weak spot is "can I trust the AI?"). Cap the free tier by document count; charge €8–12/month, with a discount for annual plans.

**How to get users** : first build 3–5 accounts of "people preparing for exams," each posting 1–3 videos a day: study methods, daily-routine vlogs, "I tested 5 AI exam tools" rankings, each ending with a line like "the site is xxx"; each week, double down on whichever template gets traction. In parallel, run exam-announcement pages and single-law free question pages to capture search. Once you have a few thousand signups, launch the app and start TikTok sales ads.

**Get in before** : Typed is Spain-only for now. Its templates and law library can move straight to Spanish-speaking Latin America, and Portuguese and Italian aren't far off. To beat it, move before it expands: ideally get one country's persona accounts to their first 10K followers before the first half of 2027.

**Signs you've got it wrong** : ① your persona accounts have run 60 days, dozens of videos, and none has hit 100k views. The playbook doesn't work in your market. ② You get signups but little payment, with conversion under 2%. That means candidates in this country default to free question banks or ChatGPT. ③ Typed's app launches in a second country, or it drops out of the top 100 on the iOS Top Grossing chart. The first means the window is closing; the second means even it hasn't made the model work. ④ ChatGPT or NotebookLM ships an "exam mode" with mock tests and a mistake notebook, backed by a local law library.

### One line

Typed AI is a tool from Barcelona's TYPED AI STUDIES S.L. for Spanish civil-service (oposiciones) candidates. You upload your own PDF notes (or use the built-in law library), and it generates multiple-choice questions, flashcards, summaries, mock exams, and a mistake log, scheduling reviews on a forgetting curve. **It isn't a new app that appeared a month ago. It's a web SaaS that has been running for about three years, and only added a native app in October 2026.** The app's early traction came from migrating existing web users, plus a TikTok "exam-prep girl" persona-account matrix it has run for over a year. Paid TikTok acquisition started in October.

### 1. Who they are

- Developer: listed on Play as TypedAI, legal entity TYPED AI STUDIES S.L., contact jordi@typedai.com, website typedai.com, web app app.typedai.com [googleplay library, app table]. Founder Jordi B. on LinkedIn (Esade grad, signature "Aprueba cualquier oposición con ayuda de Typed AI"); around July 2023 (post id 7086729261759287296) he posted "Typed AI - La mejor IA para opositar", and the page says Typed AI has been around for 3 years [es.linkedin.com/in/jordi-b-0b58978a].

- History: the web version came first; the earliest findable video from the TikTok persona account @maria_typedai is from 2025-03-10; the Instagram @typed_ai bio says "+90.000 usuarios" (self-reported, unverified).

- App: Play 2026-10-02 launch, iOS (id 6771355744) 2026-10-06 launch [googleplay, appstore libraries]. Day one on iOS, a review already said "I've used the web version for ages, so happy to have the App" (Marmota📚, 10-06) [appstore library review].

- Pricing: free tier of 3 documents, 40 pages each; Básico €8.99/mo; Premium €11.99/mo; cheaper for half-year and annual plans; new users get Premium for the first 3 days at 85% off [typedai.com homepage]. - B2B: UGT CaixaBank (CaixaBank's union) uses it to help members prep for internal promotion exams (5 sections, about 100 topics). The site has a case study page and a page for training schools (academias) [typedai.com/caso-estudio-ugt-caixabank; YouTube "Demostración APP Typed UGT"].

### 2. Growth data

**Google Play (googleplay library)**

| Date | Total installs | New today |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 5,576 | – |
| 10-31 | 5,917 | +341 |
| 11-03 | 6,318 | +401 |
| 11-05 | 6,373 | +55 |
| 11-06 | 6,475 | +102 |

- +899 over the last 7 days; 6,475 total since launch 35 days ago, roughly 130–180 installs a day. Only launched in Spain (n_countries=1).

- Spain Education Top Free chart: 10-29 #73 → 11-03 #106 → 11-06 #86 [googleplay library chart_rank]. No rating count on Play, and our library didn't capture reviews.

**iOS (appstore library, Spain)**

- Rating count 34 (10-28) → 45 (11-06), +10 over 7 days, rating 4.7.

- It's been on the Spain Education free or grossing charts every day. Best rank: **#30 Education Top Grossing (10-29)** , and 11-06 at #33 overall Top Grossing. For comparison, the established leader OpositaTest peaked at #13 Education Top Grossing. So people are already paying on iOS consistently. The Spain Education grossing bar is low; estimated revenue is a few thousand to ten-some thousand euros a month, unverified.

**Size of comparable apps in our library (googleplay library, 2026-11-06)**

- OpositaTest: 792,796 installs on Play, #7 Education Top Grossing (Spain); 4,332 ratings on iOS.

- Formación Ninja: 12,724 on Play; Acadèmia Bombers: 4,087 on Play, #29 Education Top Grossing.

- Typed AI's App is only a month old, and its install count is already in the same range as these niche vertical apps.

### 3. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Typed AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OpositaTest | iOS/Android/web | 2015 years (2016-12 on Play) | 790k installs on Play; self-reported 1.6M sign-ups and 70k+ paying users [oporuta.es] | 300k hand-written question bank, no generative AI; Typed generates questions from your own notes, so it works for any exam |
| Testualia | Web | Unverified (around 2024 years ago) | Unknown | Also generates exam questions from documents, about €90/60 days; no App and no persona account matrix |
| Elaia(elaiapp.com) | Web | 2026 | Small | Nearly the same features (PDF→questions/summaries/spaced repetition), €8.99–16.99/mo |
| OpoRuta | Web | 2026 | Small | Questions checked against BOE legal text; one-time €49.99 for 12 months; covers only 12 types of exam |
| Opositor.ai, Toposiciones, opositest.ai, apruebaconia.es, studypdf | Web | 2025–2026 | Small | All are "upload a PDF, get questions"; Toposiciones focuses on mobile |
| Algor Education, Astra AI | Web/app | 2023–2024 | Medium (general study tools) | General-purpose AI study tools; Typed's site has a dedicated comparison page for them |
| Formación Ninja, Acadèmia Bombers, OpoZulo (planning), etc. | iOS/Android | 2021–2026 | Thousands to tens of thousands on Play | Training schools' own apps, or apps that only handle study schedules |
| ChatGPT / NotebookLM | Big-company features | – | Huge | OpositaTest's survey says 27% of candidates use AI, and 87% use ChatGPT [oporuta.es citing "Observatorio del Opositor 2026"]. Typed's value is bundling "generate questions, review, mock exams" into a ready-to-use flow for candidates, and it's wired into a legal database. |

Verdict: this niche is crowded. Over the past 2026 years, at least seven or eight small Spanish sites have appeared offering "upload a PDF, AI makes questions," and iOS has a long list of new oposiciones apps (appstore library: Oposi, OpoTestApp, Metodea, Convocia, AGE C1 Test, Oposlab…, mostly single-digit ratings).

### 4. Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **TikTok persona account matrix (core, confirmed)** . TikHub turns up a group of accounts with a "female candidate studying for an exam" persona, all with typed in the name:
    - @maria_typedai (bio: "Preparándome la oposición con ayuda de la IA / Embajadora de Typed AI"): 48.7k followers, 2.46M likes, 1,080 posts; earliest visible 2025-03; top single post 248k views (2026-06-19), 103k views (2026-04-19).
    - @claudia_typed (2,315 followers, top post 323k views), @lucia_typedai (5,320 followers, one post at 64k views in 11-04), @ruby_typedai (4,128 followers), @alexandra_typedai (3,789 followers), @opositora.101_typed.
    - The captions are one template rotated across accounts: "Envíaselo a esa persona que tmb necesite verlo 💖🫡 la web es typedai.com" appears word for word on claudia, ruby, and alexandra; "Mejores IAs para estudiar OPOSICIONES 💗🧠 Seamos sinceros…" has gone out on maria, ruby, claudia, and alexandra. The content formats are study vlogs, "best AI tools for exam prep" rankings, feature tutorials, and office-software tutorials.
    - The brand's official @typed.ai account has only 116 followers. The traffic all comes from the persona accounts, the classic "small account matrix + UGC creators" playbook.
    - Search "app oposiciones ia" and about half of the top 30 TikTok videos come from these accounts, which means it owns that search term's TikTok results page.

2. **TikTok paid ads (confirmed)** . tiktokads library: advertiser "Typed AI Studies S.L." (TikTok account typed.ai). The earliest ad ran 2026-09-21, targeting Spain only. 11-06 currently running 18 ads (11-05 are 20), with 4 new in the last 7 days, all video, objective Sales. Each ad reached 1K–100K. Copy includes "¡Prepara tu oposición desde solo 7,19 € al mes!" and "Consigue tu plaza este año estudiando con Typed AI". The website also has the TikTok Pixel installed (loaded with consent). Timing matches the App launch: ads started late September, and creatives were added after the App launched in October.

3. **Migration of existing users (confirmed)** . The web version has been around for about three years. On iOS day one, a batch of 5 five-star reviews said things like "used the web version for a long time" and "recommend to everyone studying for exams." A few English ones read "Great and Useful App" and "Amazing idea, great product!", which looks like the team and friends seeding a cold start.

4. **Scaled SEO (confirmed)** . The sitemap has 9,890 "convocatorias" pages (national and local exam announcements, e.g. one city government with 1 positions), plus 76 legal cross-reference pages, 20 psychometric test pages, 11 free practice question pages sorted by law (the Constitution, 39/2015, 40/2015, TREBEP…), 4 competitor comparison pages (vs OpositaTest / Algor / Astra / Proxus), and 3 successful candidate case studies. Third-party reviews from Algor, OpoRuta, jeffrychaves.com and others cover it.

5. **Instagram Reels** : @typed_ai and the persona accounts post Reels in parallel (Jina finds several "Tutorial de cómo utilizar typedai.com…" videos).

6. **B2B and channels** : the UGT CaixaBank case study, plus a page for training schools (academias). Small in scale, but it provides endorsement.

7. **What I couldn't find** : it's not in the Meta or Google ad libraries (those only track products on their list, and keyword searches only run in US/UK/DE/JP, so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't advertising). No mentions on X in 90 days. No press coverage or funding news found.

### 5. Why it took off

- **Real need, willing to pay** : every year, millions of Spaniards prepare for civil service exams (a persona video claims "2026 years, September, about 6.5M Spaniards are studying for exams", unverified), and a single exam can take a year or two. In-person prep schools often cost hundreds of euros. OpositaTest is €16/mo; Typed is €9–12/mo, aimed squarely at "not spending the big money on a prep school" (a verbatim iOS review: "sin gastarte el dineral que cuestan las academias").

- **The App captures existing demand rather than starting from zero** : the web version already has users (self-reported 90k) and a content machine producing dozens of videos a month. When the App launched, existing traffic plus TikTok ads drove installs immediately, so it had over 6 thousand installs in the first month and reached the iOS grossing chart.

- **Content strategy picked the right platform and audience** : exam candidates scroll "#opositora #studytok" on TikTok, and study vlogs with "this website saved me" hit that crowd directly. Multiple persona accounts posting together let them test which templates take off, and one hit can pull hundreds of thousands of views.

### 6. Differentiation

- Compared with OpositaTest: **it doesn't rely on hand-written questions, it generates them from your own notes** , marking which section of the notes each question came from. So it works for obscure exams too (like the CaixaBank internal exam or city government positions), and the questions never run out. Add a legal database (12k articles, filterable by autonomous community), mock exams with customizable penalty rules, forgetting-curve review, mini games, office software, and psychometric tests, all in one place.

- Compared with the other "upload a PDF, get questions" tools like Testualia, Elaia, and Toposiciones: feature-wise there's little difference, since everyone can plug in the same large models. **Typed's real edge is distribution** : it got there two or three years earlier, built up web users, SEO pages, and a full TikTok persona account matrix, and now it's on both iOS and Android (most rivals only have a web version).

- So: **product differentiation (versus OpositaTest) explains why this path has a market, but within the AI competitors, it's distribution that is winning, not the product.** Some users also doubt whether AI-generated questions are reliable (one 3-star iOS review from 11-03: "Handing my notes to an AI… I wouldn't do that"). OpoRuta is attacking that weakness with "checked against the BOE."

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **it's circulating in small circles** . It comes up often in Spanish exam-prep TikTok and review blogs, and competitors have written dedicated comparison articles (Algor, OpoRuta). But there's no public revenue (it isn't listed on TrustMRR or similar), no press or funding coverage, no discussion on X, and almost nobody in the English-speaking world knows about it.

- Copycats: similar web tools have multiplied over the past 2026 years (Elaia, OpoRuta, opositest.ai, apruebaconia.es, Toposiciones, studypdf, OpoLab…). On TikTok, some small accounts pull people in with lines like "comment what exam you're taking, get 7 days free" (@opositabot, 11-05). Whether anyone is copying its persona account matrix wholesale is unconfirmed.

### 8. What others can learn

- "Vertical exam × AI questions from your own notes" can be copied to other countries: France's concours, Italy's concorsi pubblici, Portugal and Latin America's concursos públicos, China's and India's civil service exams, Germany's driving theory test, and more.

- The distribution playbook is worth copying more than the product: build web pages first for SEO (exam-announcement pages, per-law practice-question pages, competitor comparison pages), then set up 4–6 "study-girl" persona accounts on a shared template and post at volume to own the "best AI study tool" ranking content; once organic traffic is in, launch the app and run sales-goal video ads on TikTok.

- Go after B2B 2 (unions, internal corporate promotion exams, training schools), and use case studies to back it up for the C-end.

### 9. Still unclear

- Real revenue and conversion rates: the only signal is ranking around #30 on the Spain iOS Education Top Grossing chart, which suggests steady paying users.

- The "90k users" figure is self-reported; actual web traffic is unknown.

- Whether the persona accounts are run by employees, outsourced UGC creators or AI-generated avatars is unverified (maria_typedai alone has posted 1,080 videos, a very high output).

- How much was spent on TikTok ads and what the install cost was is unknown; whether they ran on Meta and Google is unverified.

- The Play listing shows no rating count, so retention is unclear.
