A Vietnamese web-novel app pulled from Google Play several times now back at 96k installs under a new cover: TYT is riding a 10-year-old brand, not a new playbook
What it is A free Vietnamese-language web-novel reader with audiobooks, works offline. Most content is Vietnamese translations of Chinese web novels. It makes money from ads, with an ad-free Pro in-app purchase.
Why it's taking off The old packages 2025-11 and 2026-02 were both pulled from Play in turn, leaving millions of long-time readers with nowhere to go. The new package keeps the TYT name and icon, so readers who search Play get back to it. Facebook fan pages and TikTok book-list videos help bring them in.
DHow you could approach it Don't copy the pirate aggregator. If you want to ride this demand, build only the tools and host no content (Vietnamese TTS, epub import, e-ink adaptation), or license legitimate web novels and make Vietnamese AI audio versions.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-17 · 11-07 installs 96,544
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
TYT – Truyện Full, Offline is a free web-novel reading and audiobook app in Google Play's Vietnam store. It launched in Aug 17 and reached 96,544 installs by Nov 6. It looks like a quiet new product building traction, but it's actually the third (at least) Android package of "TYT", a Vietnamese web-novel brand that has existed for 2016 years. Each earlier package was removed from Play, so the developer switched accounts and package names and republished. The users are old readers who found it by searching the name. The content is mostly Vietnamese "localized" translations of Chinese web novels. Followers can get neither of these, so this isn't a business to copy.
An old reader looking for a "new place"
In Mar 21 2026, a user on VOZ, Vietnam's biggest forum, asked for recommendations: "I used to read on TYT. It had everything. New chapters came fast, and when my eyes hurt I switched to listening. It's free, with some ads, but much better than Wattpad. Now the store has cleaned up too hard, everything flagged got removed, I can't even search for it, so I want a new place."
None of the replies met that need: someone recommended another novel site, someone said "just download the epub and import it to your iPhone", someone said "I put epubs on my Kindle."
This user was talking about TYT's old Android package com.truyenyeuthich. On Play it reached 500k to 1M installs and 10k+ ratings. Its last update was in Nov 27 2025, and its page no longer loads. Its successor com.tataapp lasted only until Feb 6 2026, when it was pulled with 46k downloads (per chrome-stats). Half a year later, com.tytno, from a developer called "Banh Mi", went up with the same TYT name and icon. Its version numbers started at 3.x, continuing the same codebase.
What it is
TYT stands for "Truyện Yêu Thích" (favorite novels). The app offers full novels: romance, transmigration, xianxia, urban, and BL, mostly Vietnamese translations of Chinese web novels. Its features are what heavy web-novel readers want: offline download of whole books, TTS auto-read (for listening while cooking or driving), and e-ink reader support. TikTok even has tutorials on setting TYT's page-turn buttons on a 7-inch Boox reader.
The current store listing is clean: "huge library, constantly updated." The previous package openly described itself as a "user-generated content platform, reviewed before posting, respects copyright." The old iOS description is more honest: "60,000+ free translations, cooperating with 50+ translation groups, 1,500+ exclusives." That is the real selling point, and also why it keeps getting removed.
The iOS version has been listed since December 2016. It has 25,626 ratings in Vietnam and a 4.52 score (App Store, 11-06), but in 9 days it only added 16 ratings. That's a stock of existing users, not growth.

| 11-06 | 96,544 | 0 | 57 |
(Google Play installs and Vietnam Entertainment Top Free chart, 10-29 to 11-06)
It added about 7,700 in 9 days, averaging around 860 a day. The growth is steady with no acceleration. Chart rank bounced between #45 and #64, and it's only charted in Vietnam.
The sources of its installs are mostly traceable:
- Old readers coming back by searching the name. This is the main engine. The earlier packages together reached millions of installs, and iOS still has 25k ratings. After each takedown, these users asked "where did TYT go?" on TikTok and Facebook, and searching "tyt truyện" in Play finds the new package.
- Facebook fan page @tytnovel, 12,452 followers. It posts download guides and anti-fake reminders like "old readers don't panic, the app was only copied a few months ago," plus posts on temporary access when the website is blocked. Its site has rotated through tytnovel.com, .net, .info, .org and .xyz.
- Organic readers recommending it on TikTok, not much volume. Videos under #apptyt are mostly book lists: "after years of reading TYT, I can't not gather 140 books" (5,206 views, 2025-12), "if you want offline ghost novels, download TYT" (2,675 views, 2026-07). The official TikTok account has only 38 followers and largely doesn't post itself.
- APK sites: Aptoide, Uptodown, APKPure and Softonic all host the old packages, which people rely on when Play has nothing.
No sign of paid acquisition: the package is only 9 MB, and the install curve doesn't look like paid campaigns. The new package on Play has only 11 reviews so far. One from Nov 2 says "the team is super enthusiastic, the admins fixed it right away after feedback." One from Oct 16 complains "auto-read won't open, keeps erroring" (Google Play Vietnam, read 11-06).
Where the money comes from
The store page says "contains ads, contains in-app purchases," with prices from $0.99 to $9.99. According to AppInsider, the 3.4.9 version added a "Pro plan" in Oct 12, and in Oct 21 it made the top 100 of Vietnam's Entertainment Top Grossing chart. We couldn't verify that ranking, and revenue scale can't be inferred from it. Likely model: ads plus paid ad-free access. Readers are on it every day, so ad impressions add up, and the content carries no licensing cost. The main costs are servers and constantly rotating packages.
Who it's competing with
The Vietnam "web novel + audiobook" space is crowded. The real competitors are the same kind of grey-area apps, all being removed and rotating packages.
| Product | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | TYT vs. alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| truyenfull.vn and mirror sites | One of Vietnam's largest pirate novel sites (traffic unverified) | Pure web, ad-supported; TYT works offline and has audio |
| Truyện Full - Đọc và Nghe EPUB | 870k installs, listed 2016 years ago | Similar long-running aggregator app |
| TruyenCV / Mê Truyện Chữ | New package with 8,347 installs (2026-07) | Also an old site moving to a new package, still cold-starting |
| Truyện Audio Full, Tiên Âm Giới | About 14k installs each (2026-08) | New audiobook-focused packages with no legacy brand |
| vBook | 2,042 installs (10-21 new package) | Reader app plus plugin sources, hosts no content itself |
| NovelToon, Dreame, WebNovel, etc. | 9M to 37M installs | Licensed or contracted content, large-scale paid acquisition |
| Waka, Fonos, Voiz FM | 340K to 2.25M installs | Licensed e-books and audiobooks, paid |
7 and August, several similar new packages appeared at once, matching TYT's timing: after Play's Vietnam cleanup, everyone is republishing. TYT has more installs than them, and the difference is the brand. Old readers who search the name come back, and the new packages don't have that.
Why it's worth a look
TYT shows two things.
First, Vietnamese readers have real, sticky demand for free, full-length Chinese web novels that work offline and can be listened to. It got pulled from the store twice, and readers still tracked it down through forums and fan pages.
Second, the asset in this business is the brand and content supply (the relationships with translation groups), not whichever store package is live. Packages get pulled, domains get blocked, but as long as the fan pages, APK sites and iOS old users are still around, you can switch to a new wrapper and bring people back. The newcomers have none of that, and their content still sits on the copyright line.
If it were you
Bottom line: don't chase it. TYT's traffic comes from 10 years of accumulated brand and a pirated translation library, and followers can't get either. Similar grey apps are already crowded, and they're all being cleaned out of Play.
Who it's for: only teams that hold legitimate licenses for Chinese web novels in Vietnamese, Thai or Indonesian, or that already have a deal with a platform. They can take the experience TYT proved out: offline reading, TTS listening, e-ink support, fast updates.
Who it's not for: indie devs who want to copy the "aggregated translated web novels + ads" model. Takedowns, re-uploads and domain changes are the normal cost of this business. If you have no old users to win back, every new package starts from zero.
How to do it: there are two legal angles. One is tools without content, like vBook: a reader app with local epub import, built to do Vietnamese TTS and e-ink well, catching the VOZ crowd who just want to load an epub and read. The other is partnering with licensed platforms or authors to offer Vietnamese audio versions (AI narration) on subscription.
How to get users: go where readers already are. VOZ's App section, Facebook book-list groups and reader pages, and TikTok book tags (#reviewtruyen and similar). Film the "tired of reading? switch to listening in one tap" moment. That's what long-time TYT readers care about most.
Timing: no rush, this isn't a window-type opportunity. To build a tool, aim to ship a first version before the first half of 2027, before TruyenCV, vBook and the other new packages get audio right.
Signs you're wrong: ① com.tytno survives six months without a takedown, keeps installing at a few thousand a day, and charts in the top 50 of Vietnam's Entertainment grossing list (meaning Play's risk is smaller than it looks and the money bigger); ② a licensed platform launches Vietnamese AI-narrated Chinese web novels that reach hundreds of thousands of installs on Play within half a year (meaning the legal route has room and deserves more weight); ③ conversely, if com.tytno gets pulled again before year-end, that confirms the business isn't reliable.

TYT – Truyện Full, Offline (com.tytno) research report
Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our googleplay / appstore databases (agent-im server), Jina / Exa web search, TikHub TikTok search, AppInsider, chrome-stats, and various APK mirror sites.
Bottom line
This is not a new product. TYT = "Truyện Yêu Thích" (favorite stories), a Vietnamese web novel and audiobook brand that has existed for 2016 years, mainly serving Vietnamese translations of Chinese web novels from translation groups. Its Android packages have been repeatedly pulled from Google Play, with new developer accounts and new package names each time. com.tytno is at least the third Android package on 2026-08-17. The "11 weeks since launch, now 96k installs" growth on the data card is in fact old users and the old brand coming back: earlier packages had 500k–1M installs and over 10k ratings, and the iOS version has 25.6k ratings. People who search "TYT" on Play find them again. It took off because of its content (a grey library of translated web novels) plus a brand built over 10 years, not because of any new tactic. The biggest risk is another takedown.

| Android com.tytda "Đọc Truyện, Nghe Truyện Audio" | Banh Mi | — | Listed as 150k+ books, 50+ installs | Live (seen during recall, not in our database) | Data card recall.found |
A few pieces of supporting evidence:
- The com.tataapp version described itself as a "user-generated content platform: content is reviewed before publishing, respects copyright, and has a reporting channel," clearly a line adopted to pass review; the current iOS description uses the same language. The older iOS description told the truth: "60,000+ free translated titles, partnered with 50 translation groups, 1,500+ exclusives" [apps.apple.com/vn/app/id1181034234?l=vi old description].
- The version numbers of com.tytno start at 3.x (3.4.9 → 3.5.1 → 3.5.2), which suggests the codebase is carried over rather than newly written [AppInsider timeline].
- The website domain keeps changing too: tytnovel.com, .net, .info, .org, .xyz and tytnv.com have all appeared. The Facebook page has also posted guides on "how to temporarily access tytnovel.org when the current site won't load" [facebook.com/tytnovel]. This is classic guerrilla domain-hopping after blocks.
2. Growth data (googleplay library)
| Date | Total installs | New today | Vietnam Entertainment Top Free |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 88,818 | – | 49 |
| 10-30 | 88,818 | 0 | 45 |
| 10-31 | 88,818 | 0 | 48 |
| 11-01 | 91,281 | +2,463 | 54 |
| 11-02 | 91,281 | 0 | 62 |
| 11-03 | 94,942 | +3,661 | 60 |
| 11-04 | 94,942 | 0 | 64 |
| 11-05 | 96,544 | +1,602 | 58 |
| 11-06 | 96,544 | 0 | 57 |
- About 7,700 new installs over 9 days, averaging roughly 860 a day. The data card says it's "accelerating," but that doesn't hold up: installs jump every other day, with three jumps of +2,463 / +3,661 / +1,602, which shows steady growth, not acceleration. Ranking bounces between 45 and 64 and never climbs.
- It only charts in Vietnam. AppInsider estimates over 500 downloads a day, and records that v3.4.9 of 2026-10-12 added a "Pro plan" and reached the top 100 of Vietnam's Entertainment grossing chart 2026-10-21 [appinsider.io/android/app/com.tytno]. Our database only has free-chart records for this app; grossing chart positions are unverified.
- In-app purchases at $0.99–$9.99 per item [data card]; the older description says "contains ads + in-app purchases," and users in reviews ask "is there an ad-free paid version?" [applion.jp]. Monetization is likely ads plus an ad-free / Pro subscription.
- The older iOS package gained only 16 ratings in 9 days (25,610 → 25,626) [appstore database app_day]. On iOS it's a legacy base that isn't growing.
3. Competitors
Vietnam's "web novels + audiobooks" market is crowded, and grey aggregator apps like TYT are everywhere:
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 2026-11-06) | How TYT is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| truyenfull.vn and its mirror sites | Web | From about 2014 | One of Vietnam's largest pirate novel sites (traffic unverified) | Web-based, ad-monetized; TYT is an app with offline reading and audio |
| Truyện Full - Đọc và Nghe EPUB(com.ezstudio68.truyenfull) | Android | 2016-12 | 871,484 installs | Similar grey aggregator, long-established; TYT adds exclusive partnerships with translation groups and a community |
| TruyenCV / Mê Truyện Chữ (io.truyencv.reader, etc.) | Android / web | 2026-07 new package | 8,347 installs | Same "old site, new package" play, still in cold start |
| Truyện Audio Full(vn.truyenfullaudio.truyenfullaudio) | Android | 2026-08-08 | 13,529 | Focused on audiobooks, also only recently listed |
| Tiên Âm Giới - Audio Truyện Full(tien.am.gioi) | Android | 2026-08-21 | 13,884 | Focused on xianxia audiobooks |
| vBook – Đọc Truyện & Sách | Android/iOS | 2026-10-21 new package | 2,042 (7 days +1,773) | A Vietnamese-made reader + plugin source, with people on TikTok promoting its TTS |
| NovelToon / Novelah / Dreame / WebNovel / Hinovel | Android/iOS | 2018–2023 | 9M–37M | Licensed or in-house contracted content, big-company ad spend; TYT is "free Chinese web novel translation" |
| Waka, Fonos, Voiz FM, Tammi (Viettel) | Android/iOS | 2017–2020 | 340k–2.25M | Licensed e-books/audiobooks, paid; no Chinese web novel translation |
| Wattpad, QuarterFull | All platforms | Long-established | 610k to tens of millions | UGC originals; VOZ users say TYT "has fewer ads than Wattpad" |
| EarnNovel, Novelvio (read-to-earn) | Android | 2026-05/06 | 370k, 1.64M | Relies on "earn by reading" paid acquisition, a completely different model |
No big company doing the same thing turned up. The real rivals are the same kind of grey aggregator apps, which are also being delisted and repackaged.
4. How users found it
- Returning old users and brand recall (main source, confirmed): the previous package had 500k–1M installs and 10k+ ratings, iOS 25.6k ratings. After the delisting, users on TikTok/Facebook ask "where do I download TYT now?" 2026-03-21 A VOZ forum post: "I used TYT before, it had everything, updated fast, and when I was tired of reading I could switch to audiobooks, and it was free... Now they cleaned up too hard, the violators got pulled, and I want to find a new place" [voz.vn/t/tim-app-doc-truyen-chu.1220257]. The package name com.tytno, its name and icon all say TYT directly, so searching "tyt truyện" on Play finds it; the Play link Jina returns carries
utm_term=tyt truyện full offline app, showing people search this term on Google. - Facebook fan page @tytnovel (confirmed): 12,452 followers, posting download guides and warnings about fake packages ("the app was impersonated only a few months ago, long-time readers who've used it for over a year, don't panic") [facebook.com/tytnovel]. Reader-run book list pages (like "List truyện của Đại Bạch") have also posted "how to download the genuine TYT and avoid fake apps."
- Organic reader recommendations on TikTok (confirmed, small volume): under the #apptyt and #tyt tags there are reader book-list videos, e.g. "I've read TYT for years, there's no way I can't gather 140 books" (5,206 views, 2025-12), "if you want offline weird novels, download TYT" (2,675 views, 2026-07), "reading on TYT, and now they're all completed" (1,100 views, 2026-10) [TikHub search]. The official @tytnovel account has only 38 followers and isn't actively run.
- Translation group referrals (inferred): the description says it partners with 50 translation groups and carries 1,500 exclusive first releases. Translation groups may send readers to TYT, but I found no direct evidence.
- APK site distribution (confirmed): Aptoide, Softonic, Uptodown, APKPure and GameLoop all host old packages; when Play doesn't have it, people rely on these.
- Paid acquisition: no evidence found. Ad libraries don't track this app, and the 9 MB small package and steady curve don't look like paid buying.
5. Differentiation
- Content: free, complete, fast-updating Vietnamese translations of Chinese web novels (romance, transmigration, xianxia, danmei), built on partnerships with translation groups. This is the root reason users stay, and also why it keeps getting delisted.
- Features: offline downloads + TTS/AI audiobooks + e-ink reader support (release notes fix a bug in the "page-turn mode on e-readers"; TikTok has a tutorial on "setting TYT page-turn keys on a 7-inch Boox reader"). Most rivals offer these too, so they aren't a moat.
- Brand: the "TYT" name built over 10 years is being impersonated (the fan page is warning about it), showing the brand itself has value.
Is this differentiation why it broke out? Yes, but what broke out was the brand, not the com.tytno package. com.tytno is just the brand's new entry point back on Play.
6. Visibility and copycats
- No public revenue figures, and no coverage from media or X; the only write-up is one FPT Shop piece "what TYT is and how to use it" (2026-08-30). Everyone in the Vietnamese web novel reader community knows it, but nobody outside notices: it's "spreading in a small circle."
- Copycats: people are impersonating the TYT brand with fake packages (the fan page and reader posts both mention "fake app"). Same-category old sites relaunching packages are also happening at the same time (TruyenCV, Truyện Audio Full, Tiên Âm Giới are all new packages on 2026-07/08).
7. What others can borrow
- A minor-language "translated web novel aggregator + offline + TTS audiobooks" model with very sticky users (VOZ users say they'd hate to lose it). But the content source is pirated translation, stores can delist it at any time, and switching packages and domains is a routine cost of this business.
- The core asset of this business is the brand and content supply (translation group relationships), not a particular package in a store. After delisting, it wins users back via Facebook fan pages, APK sites and existing iOS users.
- A legitimate direction to borrow from: take licensed Chinese web novels global to Vietnam/Indonesia/Thailand, plus AI read-aloud. Big players like NovelToon and Dreame already occupy this space.
- The data card suggests "transplanting the model to Indonesia/Thailand," but that only works if content licensing is solved; otherwise it's copying the delisting risk.
8. Uncertain
- The exact delisting date and reason for com.truyenyeuthich (copyright complaint or policy violation) is unverified; we only know its last update was 2025-11-27, and it is now 404 on Play.
- Whether Banh Mi, TYT App, TYTNovel and Son Nguyen are the same group: branding, features and version lines match, and the fan page treats the new package as official, but nothing directly proves it. It also can't be ruled out that com.tytno itself is one of the "fake packages", though continuous version numbers and consistent release-note style make that less likely.
- Revenue scale: AppInsider says it once ranked in the top 100 of Vietnam's entertainment grossing chart; our database has no matching record.
- The share of referrals from translation groups is unverified.
