A Vietnamese developer's AI palm-reading app hit 460K installs in 82 days. It's not the first, and not the biggest, just the fastest to ride the wave.
What it is A free, ad-supported Android app: clap your hands and AI reads your palm, chat with an AI astrologer, check daily horoscopes and zodiac compatibility, and see what you'll look like when you're older.
Why it's hot After an AI palm-reading app was validated on Google Play, followers copied its template within a month and kept buying installs in cheap-install markets like Indonesia, Nigeria, Argentina and South Asia, recouping the spend through app-open and interstitial ads.
DHow to play it: Don't copy the whole template-factory playbook. Either do what the others do badly (get the language right, run fewer ads, give real answers, sell subscriptions), or pick a local divination tradition and language that hasn't been flooded by template apps yet. Test CPI and retention with a small Google App Campaigns budget before scaling.

AI Astrology: Palm & Horoscope is a free, ad-supported Android app that bundles AI palm reading, AI astrology chat, daily horoscopes, zodiac matching, and an aging effect. It launched in Aug 16 and hit 460k installs by Nov 6, with users spread across low-CPI countries like Indonesia, Nigeria, Argentina, India, and Bangladesh. It was built by a solo developer in Vietnam. The product is nearly identical to a dozen other palm-reading apps launched around the same time. What made it work: it followed up a month after others had validated the demand, bought traffic only in cheap markets, and used ads to get its money back. The app is now cooling off, and the developer has already reskinned it into a second product.
"This app is basically an ad warehouse"
Sep 25: an Indonesian user gave it one star on Google Play: "Ad warehouse. I just wanted to open the app and ads popped up first. Just downloaded it, just opened it, and the app isn't even being used yet, but there are already tons of ads." Another person wrote even shorter: "aplikasi gudang iklan", ad warehouse. Someone in Argentina wrote "garbage, all ads". Another complained, "I speak Spanish, not Italian", which means its localization picked the wrong language.
In the same period, the newer English-language reviews look completely different: "very nice", "good", "genius 👌👍", "well done". All five stars, many of them just one or two words. The names on them are mostly from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, South Africa and Iran. One user wrote a long question in Hindi ("when will I get married, what year, how is my career, I'm a Capricorn, is some star working against me") and gave five stars. Another Hindi user wrote "it told me nothing" and also gave five stars.
Put these two groups together and you have most of the business: users come for "read my fortune", and few care whether the answer is any good. The money comes from splash and interstitial ads. On the store page it has 1,134 ratings, averaging 4.1 stars (11-06).
What it is
The one-line store description reads: "AI astrology chat, palm reading, daily horoscope, love compatibility and an aging magic." Once you open it:
- Take a photo of your palm and the AI reads your life line, heart line and head line;
- Chat with an "AI astrologer" about love, career, family and money;
- Daily and weekly horoscopes, plus zodiac personality profiles;
- Zodiac compatibility between two people;
- An "aging" effect that shows what you'll look like when you're old.
The last feature is a combination borrowed from Life Palmistry, an older palm-reading app (23M installs). The store copy is almost a keyword list: AI Astrology, Palmistry, Palm Reading, Horoscope Today, Zodiac Compatibility and Birth Chart keep showing up. The package name is vedaastro, which suggests it first aimed at Indian Vedic astrology and later widened into general astrology plus palm reading (inferred).
Free to download, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, marked "Contains ads". The Data safety section says it shares device IDs and app activity data with third parties, meaning ad SDKs.
Who made it
The developer account is VN Atomax, run by one person in Bắc Giang province, Vietnam. The contact email is a personal Gmail, and the website is a GitHub Pages template page built in Aug 7. The same account also publishes the football scores app Livescore (about 100k installs), a phone-finder tool, an AI Q&A app, and Palmora: AI Palm Reader, launched in Oct 20 (11-06 about 64k installs, 7 days +46k). Palmora is the same product under a different name.
This is a common Vietnamese playbook for utility apps: build whatever category is hot, and when one app stalls, change the package name and ship the next one, riding the boost Google Play gives new apps.
The installs form a slope, not a spike
By AppstoreSpy's estimates, its cumulative installs grew like this:
| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 08-15 | About 3,900 |
| 08-27 | About 32k |
| 09-17 | About 99k |
| 10-04 | About 250k |
| 10-25 | About 400k |
| 11-06 | 462k (public Google Play install count) |
About 5,600 new installs a day on average. The fastest stretch ran from mid-September to mid-October, at 6,000–9,000 a day. There was no single day of explosion, just a fairly straight slope. That shape doesn't look like one viral video. It looks more like someone spending a steady budget every day (inferred). Searching TikTok for the app name turns up no related videos, nobody mentions it on X, and there's no press coverage, so organic traffic looks minimal. Its ads don't appear in the public ad libraries for Meta, Google or TikTok. Not finding ads doesn't mean there were none, but with users concentrated in low-cost countries and growth this steady, the most likely source is an automated campaign such as Google App Campaigns (inferred).
It's cooling off now. In Oct 29 it was still on the Google Play Lifestyle free chart in 7 countries: #55 in Nigeria, #80 in Argentina, #83 in Mexico, #120 in Indonesia, #126 in Malaysia, #146 in South Africa, #178 in the UAE. By Nov 6 only three remained: #150 in Indonesia, #163 in Argentina, #170 in Nigeria. Daily new ratings dropped from 30–45 to single digits. The timing matches Palmora's launch, so the developer's budget probably moved over to it (inferred).
Who it's competing with
In the second half of 2026, "AI palm reading" suddenly took off on Google Play, and template studios from Vietnam and India piled in. Within that crowd it sits in the middle-to-small range (public Google Play install count, 11-06):
| Product | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palmistry - AI Palm Reader(HoangSi) | 07-08 | 13.7M | Launched more than a month earlier with nearly the same features and in-app purchases, at 30× its installs |
| AI Palm Reading(Kienmaly Mobi) | 10-12 | 2.89M, +1.57M in 7 days | Launched two months later with a much bigger budget, reaching 6× its installs in 25 days |
| Palmistry AI: Mystic Guide(Radiant Retail LLC) | 09-18 | 1.03M, 7 days +480k | A template app from a US shell company, same playbook |
| AI Palm: Horoscope, Astrology(EZLife Apps) | 08-22 | 970k | Launched at nearly the same time, same features, at 2× its installs |
| Astraea: Astrology & Chart (Vietnam, HOA BINH) | 09-21 | 320k, +205k in 7 days | A Vietnamese peer focused on birth charts, growing faster than it |
| Life Palmistry / Palmee | Earlier | 23M / 12.7M | The prototype for the "palm reading + aging effect" combo |
| Astrotalk / AstroSage / Astro99 | 2011–2025 | 16M to 115M | Based in India, aimed at Vedic astrology, with live astrologers or subscriptions and deeper content |
Searching "Palm Reader" on Play, the top ten results also include several products with the same name from LeafMotion, Ahc Foundation, ORION Studio, Adhikari Studio and others. ChatGPT and Gemini can already read palm photos directly, and TikTok tutorial videos like "ChatGPT does palm readings now" have 50k–900k views. A dedicated app's only edge is a more direct entry point that doesn't require writing your own prompts.
How the economics work
It has no paid features, so its revenue can only come from ads. The math is simple: in countries like Indonesia, Nigeria and Argentina, one install may cost only a few cents to a dime or so (estimated). Each step (a palm scan, a few fortune questions, a few compatibility checks) can show an ad, and ads also cover the cost of the AI responses. Spend on 460k installs may be in the tens of thousands of dollars (estimated). Whether ad revenue exceeded acquisition spend is not visible from outside (unverified). But it ran paid acquisition for nearly three months, and the developer launched a second app right away, which at least suggests the math roughly worked (inferred).
If it were you
One-line verdict: The product itself isn't worth chasing. The category filled up with a dozen-plus apps in two months, the top one reached 30× its installs, and a later entrant with a bigger budget passed it in 25 days. What it can teach you is a playbook, and other players describe that playbook more thoroughly.
Who it suits: Small utility-app teams that already have Google App Campaigns experience, their own AdMob account, and can test several app categories a month. For them, this is a case study in "see a category validated, then follow within a month."
Who it doesn't suit: Indie developers who have never run paid ads and want to grow through ASO or social media. It has almost no organic traffic, and Google Play hasn't even listed it among the similar-app recommendations for astrology apps.
How to do it: Don't build another "Western zodiac + palm reading + aging effect" bundle. If you want to enter this space, there are two routes. One is to do what it did poorly: get the languages right (it lumps Spanish speakers into Italian), show fewer ads, and offer real content, then earn through subscriptions or pay-per-use. The other is to use a local divination tradition, such as Kundli in Indian regional languages or local fortune-telling in the Middle East or Indonesia, and go deep in a language that template factories haven't flooded yet.
How to acquire users: Google App Campaigns, short-video creatives in local languages, and a small budget to test CPI and day-one retention. First work out whether ad revenue per user can cover CPI, and only scale up once the numbers hold.
When to move: The sooner the better, ideally before the end of 2026. Big-budget players like Kienmaly are already pushing up bid prices for the same keywords and low-cost countries.
What would mean we got it wrong: If our tests show CPI in low-cost countries running above ad revenue per user, 7-day retention falling into single digits, or Google Play starting to pull copycat AI fortune-telling apps in bulk, the arbitrage window for this category has closed.

Why AI Astrology: Palm & Horoscope (com.vedaastro.astrology) showed up
Channel: Google Play | Developer: VN Atomax (individual developer Đào Văn Cường, Bắc Giang, Vietnam) | Store launch 2026-08-16 | Research date 2026-11-06
Bottom line
There is no product-level differentiation. It's a bundle of "AI palm reading + AI astrology chat + daily horoscope + compatibility + aging effect," built from a generic template by one Vietnamese individual developer, free and monetized with ads. It rides the palm-reading demand that Google Play validated in the second half of 2026, and it has steadily built paid installs in South Asian, Southeast Asian, African and Latin American markets where installs are cheap: 82k installs in 460 days, about 5,600 a day on average. It's now slowing, and the developer's budget appears to be shifting to Palmora, a second app in the same category.

A few observations:
- Growth is linear, not explosive. AppstoreSpy's daily installs jump in steps between 0 and 1–50k, caused by Play's install counter refreshing in batches, so go by the average: late August about 2–3k/day, mid-September to mid-October about 6–9k/day, last week about 6.7k/day. 11-04 and 11-05 only have 1,992 and 1,854,11-06 as 0.
- Cooling off. The app dropped from 7 stores to 3, and its ranks generally fell 50–100 places; daily new ratings fell from 30–45 to single digits (googleplay library, app_day).
- Where the users are. Our library only covers 30 stores, and the app charts only in low-price markets. We pulled the latest Play reviews (11-06 using google-play-scraper for the us/in/pk/ng/id/ar stores): English-store reviews are mostly signed by users in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Iran (e.g. "kuch bhi nahi bataya", "vivah kab hoga…", "বাংলাদেশ"); the Indonesian and Argentine stores each have a batch of reviews in the local language. This matches third-party data showing it charting in Ukraine, Nepal and Uruguay, which suggests the volume comes from broadly spreading across low-price countries rather than relying on one core market.
2. Competitors: the same thing is already crowded
On Play, "AI palm reading / AI astrology chat" in 2026 H2 was a template category crowded with studios from Vietnam and India. Same-category apps in our library, sorted by 7-day new installs (googleplay library 2026-11-06):
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Palmistry - AI Palm Reader(HoangSi) | Android | About 2026-07-08 | 13.7M installs, 7 days +248k, charted in 15 stores | The category leader that entered more than a month earlier, with nearly identical features (palm reading + horoscope + tarot), at 30x its volume |
| AI Palm Reading(Kienmaly Mobi) | Android | About 2026-10-12 | 2.89M installs, 7 days +1.57M, charted in 28 stores, #3 in UAE lifestyle | Launched two months later with far heavier acquisition, reaching 6× its installs in 25 days |
| Astrology: Palm Reader & Tarot(Kienmaly Mobi) | Android | About 2026-10-12 | 585k, +317k in 7 days | A second reskin from the same publisher, already ahead of it in 25 days |
| Palmistry AI: Mystic Guide(Radiant Retail LLC) | Android | About 2026-09-19 | 1.03M, 7 days +480k | Batch template number from a US-shell LLC, same playbook |
| AI Palm: Horoscope, Astrology(EZLife Apps) | Android | About 2026-08-22 | 970k, +95k in 7 days | Launched almost at the same time, at 2x its volume |
| Astraea: Astrology & Chart (Vietnam, HOA BINH) | Android | About 2026-09-21 | 320k, +205k in 7 days | A Vietnamese peer focused on birth charts, growing faster |
| AI Horoscope & Tarot(Aykonu) | Android | About 2025-02 | 406k, 7 days +160k, charted in 16 stores | An old app that restarted paid acquisition, similar scale |
| Life Palmistry - Palm & Aging(Bluewolf)/ Palmee(Essa Studio) | Android | Earlier | 23M / 12.7M installs | The "palm reading + aging effect" combo was pioneered by Life Palmistry, and it copied the Aging module |
| Astro AI / Astro99 / Reva / Astrotalk / AstroSage | Android | 2018–2026 | 2.64M to 115M installs | An Indian AI astrology and human astrologer app with in-app purchases or subscriptions; it is free and does not do deep Vedic astrology |
| ChatGPT / Gemini reading palm photos | Big-company features | From ¥2024 | huge | On TikTok, videos like "ChatGPT does palm readings now" get 50k–900k views (TikHub search 11-06), and general-purpose assistants already do it for free |
Verdict: it did not pioneer the category, and it is not the biggest; among same-category apps that started around the same time, it is mid-to-small. The claim that there are no competitors does not hold.
3. Growth tactics: where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (most likely Google App Campaigns / AdMob networks, plus cross-promotion through ad networks) | Every charting country is a low-CPI market (Indonesia, Nigeria, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, Malaysia, UAE, plus Ukraine, Nepal and Uruguay per third-party data); reviews come from dozens of countries in many languages; growth is linear and steady, looking like continuous spend against a budget. Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries do not track it (no record found, which does not mean it isn't advertising). | Unconfirmed (inferred) |
| Store search / ASO | The title and description are stuffed with keywords like "AI Astrology / Palmistry / Palm Reading / Horoscope Today / Zodiac Compatibility"; the package name vedaastro and the generic astrology title don't match, which suggests the positioning was changed and the listing rewritten. But Play's "similar apps" recommendations are unrelated things like a Sudanese wallet and a church app, which suggests Google has not yet placed it in the astrology recommendation graph, so organic traffic is limited. | Partly confirmed |
| Content / creators / social media | TikHub searches for the app's full name returned no relevant videos; x-radar found no "vedaastro" or "VN Atomax" within 90 days; no press coverage. | Confirmed none |
| Rating | The latest English-store reviews are mostly very short five-star comments like "good", "very nice", "well done", "genius 👌👍"; the three pinned reviews on the store page are from September, "good feedback mohnish bansoodeb", "pro active approach", with 7–14 likes. This looks like it was generated by the in-app rating prompt, and may involve incentivized reviews, but this can't be confirmed. | Unconfirmed |
| Developer portfolio | The same developer also has Palmora: AI Palm Reader (launched 10-20, 64k installs, 7 days +46k, #151 in Vietnam lifestyle), Livescore (99k), Finder: Mobile Detective, AnyAsk AI; the website vnatom-vinh.github.io is a template page built on 08-07. | Confirmed |
Where the money comes back from: entirely ads. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions. Indonesian negative reviews almost all complain about ads: "aplikasi gudang iklan" (an ad warehouse app), "baru mau buka apknya aja udh muncul duluan iklanya" (ads pop up as soon as you open it). An Argentine user complains "basura u ha publicidad". This is the classic arbitrage model: buy installs in low-price countries and earn back cost through app open, interstitial and rewarded ads. The Data safety section says device IDs and app activity data are shared with third parties, i.e. ad SDKs. Whether it actually earns back its costs has not been verified.
4. Why it took off
- The demand already exists. In 2026 H2, AI palm reading surged on Play; HoangSi launched in July and reached 13.7M within months, validating the demand. This app followed in mid-August, riding the category's momentum.
- Template + all-in-one features. One app bundles palm reading, AI astrology chat, daily horoscopes, compatibility, birth charts and an aging effect, which covers the most search terms in the listing and gives more screens for open and interstitial ads.
- Only low-price markets. The charting countries are places where installs are cheap and users accept fortune-telling content: South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America. 460k installs may cost only a few tens of thousands of dollars in acquisition, so ad revenue has a chance to break even.
- Steady spend, not chasing charts. The curve is a straight line over 80 days, not a one-time chart push, which suggests a sustainable ROI loop. Now growth and chart rank are falling together, and the budget seems to be shifting to Palmora, consistent with a matrix playbook: when one app breaks even, reskin another and launch it.
5. Differentiation
Almost none. Compared with HoangSi, Kienmaly, Radiant Retail and EZLife, its features, visuals and monetization are the same. The only slightly distinctive move is putting Life Palmistry's "aging effect" and AI astrology chat in the same app, but other apps have similar combos. There are also quality problems: an Argentine user complained "I speak Spanish, not Italian", which points to localization errors. So differentiation is not why it grew; the reasons are category timing plus cheap installs and ad arbitrage.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No press coverage, no X discussion, no public revenue. The only data found is automatically generated pages from appbrain, apptopia, apkpure, similarweb and appfigures.
- Copycats: no one is really copying it. It is itself a copycat. The whole category is a reskin matrix, and the developer has already launched Palmora as another reskin after 10-20.
7. Takeaways
- "Once the category is validated by the leaders, follow within 1–2 months with a template, only buy installs in low-price countries, and monetize through ads" is an arbitrage playbook an indie developer can run, but the window is short. Kienmaly entered two months later and, with a bigger budget, reached 25x its volume in 6 days, which shows the competition is about budget and creatives, not product.
- Packing several fortune-telling features into one app covers more keywords and creates more ad slots.
- As soon as one app breaks even, launch a reskin right away (Palmora) and use a new package name to capture Play's new-app traffic again.
8. Uncertain
- Acquisition channels and how much was spent: none of the three ad libraries tracked it; UAC or AdMob is an inference.
- Whether ad revenue covers acquisition cost: no data.
- How many of the good reviews were prompted: the reviews are short and repetitive, but the evidence is not sufficient.
- The package name vedaastro suggests it may have started as an Indian Vedic astrology app and later rebranded to generic astrology plus palm reading. AppstoreSpy already showed 3,930 installs before the store launch date 08-16, which suggests the launch date may have been reset by changing the listing info (unverified).
- The library only covers 30 stores, so volume in places like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Ukraine is not fully visible.
