# Drop a string of coordinates in the comments and let us check from satellite whether there's gold underground: an Albanian treasure-hunting app

**What it is** You draw an area on a satellite map, and the app uses public satellite data to produce a heatmap of underground anomalies and a few candidate dig points; you pay per scan.

**Why it took off** People across the Balkans, North Africa, and the Middle East are already willing to pay for treasure hunting. Using a repurposed TikTok account with 40k followers, the operator replies to users' coordinates posted in the comments, records screen captures to show them the results, and uses measured wording and legitimate Google Play payments to make people feel safe paying.

**B** **How you could follow** Pick a treasure-hunting language market it hasn't covered yet (Arabic, Turkish, Indonesian, etc.), also list on Google Play with pay-per-scan, and open a TikTok account that only does "comment coordinate reply" for lead generation, with wording kept measured to avoid takedown.

Grade B: demand has been validated by similar products, the niche is small, the playbook is clear and nobody is copying it; but the product's effectiveness can't be proven, revenue isn't visible, and there are two layers of risk: store takedown and local heritage regulations. Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

An Albanian individual developer repackaged public satellite data as a "look before you dig" treasure-hunting app, selling scan credits at $4.99 for two scans, with the most expensive pack at $499.99. Three months after launch it has 10.8k installs and is already on the map-category top charts in 17 countries. Almost all of its traction comes from one TikTok account: users post coordinates in the comments, the account scans them with the app, and replies with a screen recording.

### Coordinates under a video

In Aug 2026 12, the TikTok account @treasures.found posted a video with a single-line title "Replying to @houcineamara945", followed by #VeldScan #SatelliteScan. houcineamara945 is a user who had left a comment earlier; the name suggests someone from Algeria or Tunisia. In the video, the account circles an area on a phone map for him, taps "scan", and after a minute or two a red-yellow heatmap with several numbered points appears.

By November the video had 55k views and 77 comments. Most of the comments are the same thing: people posting their own locations:

- "35°28'27"N 9°56'16"E, شوفلي هذا (check this one for me)" — these coordinates are in central Tunisia

- "16.075178,22.806789 please 🙏🙏🙏" — Chad

- "Ethiopia wollo kemise 🙏🙏🙏"

- "Podujev fshati dobratin" — a village in Podujevo, Kosovo

- "Please try to find me a place where there is gold. The address is Gunung Singgi, West Praya, Central Lombok" — Lombok, Indonesia

Most of the remaining comments ask one thing: "What kind of app please", "أسم التطبيق (what's the app called)", "είναι με λεφτά αυτό? (does this cost money)". Others say "كذب" (liar) or "is this legit?".

That is VeldScan's entire acquisition method.

### What it is

VeldScan (Google Play, developer WorldConnect Apps, 2026-07-26 listed) lets you draw an area of 10×10 to 100×100 meters on a satellite map; the server pulls public satellite data (optical and shortwave infrared, radar, thermal infrared, terrain, and in Albania even 8-cm aerial orthophotos), stacks them into an "anomaly heatmap", and marks candidate points 1, 2, and 3, telling you where something looks like metal, a void, old walls, or old roads.

Pricing is credit-based: the Try pack is two scans for $4.99, up to $499.99 for the largest pack; used scans are not refunded (per the website terms of service). There is a Demo mode that doesn't connect to satellites and doesn't deduct credits, designed for practice.

Its website copy is restrained, which is rare in this category: "No satellite sees underground. VeldScan does not either.", "honest signals, not magic claims", and the final conclusion must be verified on site with a metal detector. The store listing also says "results are remote sensing candidate signals, not confirmation of buried objects."

### Why now, and why this one

**These people already pay to "look at the ground from the sky".** The Balkans, North Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Turkey all have deep cultures of treasure hunting and searching for old coins. Before VeldScan, the Arabic-speaking market already had Geo Vision VR3 (its website claims 10k+ users, advertising "30 satellites + AI, can detect underground 40 meters"), the Turkish market had Define Rota, and TikTok has manual "satellite inspection" accounts (@satellite.examination.716k followers) that charge via private message. The demand was validated long ago; VeldScan's move is to turn it into a properly listed app with payments through Google Play.

**A content machine that sustains itself.** Users post coordinates → the account scans → the video shows "an anomaly near his home" → more people post coordinates below. Each video costs only a screen recording, and it also explains clearly how the app works. From July 21 to now, the account has posted about 158 VeldScan videos, totaling about 1.7M views, with 1.06M in September alone (TikTok scrape, 11-06). The two most-viewed are Sep 21 Bërdicë (Albania, 246k) and Sep 3 Kosovo (147k), both in its home base, and both places with 8-cm aerial coverage.

**It started on an existing account.** @treasures.found now has 40k followers, but scrolling back, in 2021 and 2026 and 5 through July it posted Philippine Mobile Legends gameplay videos, with the top one at 3.16M views; in July 21 it suddenly switched to VeldScan. It's likely a purchased or repurposed old account, cold-starting with existing followers and authority. Next to it is a smaller account @treasurefound52 (7,820 followers, 283 posts) doing the same coordinate-reply content.

**Restrained tone plus legitimate payment earns trust.** Competitors boast "40 meters underground, 20-cm accuracy" and use sideloaded APKs and private transfers; VeldScan writes "this is not a space ground-penetrating radar" and "don't buy without a detector", offers a free Demo first, takes payment through Google Play, and has a refund process. For players who've been scammed before, this is more persuasive; for store review, it's also less likely to be taken down as "misleading functionality".

### Metric

| items | Numbers | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Installs | 10,784, +804 in the last 7 days | Google Play,11-06 |
| Growth curve | 8-20 about 1,242 → 10-01 about 6,430 → 11-05 10,784, steadily +100–150 per day, with no chart-rushing spikes | Third-party estimates + Google Play |
| Top Grossing | Every day since 10-29, it has ranked #136–153 on the Top Grossing chart for Maps & Navigation in 17 countries (Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, Mexico…) | Google Play charts |
| In-app purchases | $4.99–$499.99 one-time | Store page |
| Rating | The store page shows no rating and no public reviews. | 11-06 |

Take the Top Grossing rank with a grain of salt: the bar for Maps charts in these smaller markets is low, and ~140 ranks doesn't convert to a specific dollar figure. What it does show is **steady in-app purchase revenue** , and 10k installs is enough to chart, so the people who pay are spending real money. Monthly revenue can't be estimated from this.

The install spikes line up with viral videos: the Kosovo video on Sep 3 got 147k views, and installs rose about 290 that day. But one thing doesn't add up: TikTok views in October fell about 70% from September, yet installs didn't drop. Something else is filling the gap (the multilingual SEO pages on the website, Facebook Reels, word of mouth), and it's not visible from the outside.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Form | How it differs from VeldScan |
|---|---|---|
| Geo Vision VR3 | Web / sideloaded Android, Arabic | Makes the boldest claims, and top-ups bypass the store |
| Define Rota | Web, Turkish | Exports professional software formats, aimed at people who use Surfer |
| SHAMAL-SAT | Web service | Relies on users posting their 'finds' as proof, more manual |
| Manual 'satellite checks' on TikTok | Paid via private messages | Done by hand; VeldScan lets users do it themselves |
| PinPoint Treasure | Web, English, $9.99/month | Western treasure hunting based on historical research, legends + LiDAR |
| Detector Maps / Lodeline | iOS / Android | Gold prospectors in Australia and the US, using mining rights, geochemistry and other official data |
| 'Metal Detector' magnetometer app | Android | Top app with 17.7M installs, a free ad-supported toy |

This niche isn't empty, but nobody is copying VeldScan's approach: official store listing, pay per scan, TikTok order requests. No public revenue, no press coverage; searching 'veldscan' on X returns 0 results. It only circulates in treasure-hunting circles and a few APK download sites.

### Its weak spots

- **Nobody can prove the thing actually works.** The backend is public satellite data plus a fusion algorithm, and there's no way from the outside to verify whether it really helps people find anything. The comments already have people calling it a scam. Pay per scan with no refunds after use, so repeat purchases rely on hope, not results.

- **Two layers of compliance risk.** First, Google Play has long been strict about 'detection' apps. Second, in many of the countries where its core users live, illegally digging up artifacts is a crime. The terms push all responsibility onto users, but if the platform or local authorities act, it could vanish overnight.

- **The moat is shallow.** The data is free for anyone to get. The real barrier is a working remote sensing pipeline and a TikTok account that takes off.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : B. The demand is real, the circle is small, nobody is copying it, and the order-request content playbook is easy to learn. But what you sell is something whose effectiveness can't be proven, revenue is invisible, and there are delisting and legal risks.

**Who it suits** : people who know some remote sensing or GIS (can use Sentinel and make band composites), or can find someone who does. Ideally, a native speaker or someone close to them in a language with a strong treasure-hunting culture that VeldScan hasn't properly served: Arabic (North Africa, the Gulf, Yemen), Turkish, Indonesian and Filipino (the comments are full of people asking about 'Japanese buried treasure' and the Lombok ones), and Amharic in Ethiopia. VeldScan currently only has English and Albanian, and its videos are all made in Albania.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who don't want to touch the grey zone or who mind 'selling hope'; people who can only write code and can't make short videos (all customer acquisition happens in TikTok comments); and people aiming at Western markets (there, tools like Detector Maps and PinPoint serve gold prospectors, and users want mining rights and LiDAR, not anomaly heatmaps).

**How to do it** : launch on Android first and take payment through Google Play. Start with a free demo, then $4.99 for two scans, with bigger packs on top. Copy VeldScan's restrained language, 'candidate spots' and 'must verify on site', since that's what keeps you in the store. Differentiate where it falls short: an interface and reports in the target language, high-resolution imagery available locally, and results designed to film well for video.

**How to get users** : start a TikTok account in the target language (ideally from an older account that already has followers) and do one thing: reply to comments with coordinates. Every video is 'the plot you sent, scanned, here's what it looks like.' Open one or two extra accounts to do the same. Commenters who ask 'what's the app called?' are your conversions.

**When to move** : the window isn't seasonal, it's about whether someone takes the 'order request account' slot in a given language first. VeldScan peaked on TikTok in September and fell back in October, and it hasn't reached Albanian yet. If you can get a first order-request video to 100k views in one language within three months, you're in time.

**Signs you've misjudged it** : ① VeldScan is delisted from Google Play, or its store page gets a 'misleading' warning, which closes the store route; ② its Top Grossing rank drops from 17 countries to single digits before December while installs keep rising, meaning payers don't come back and buyers leave after one try; ③ your account posts 30 order-request videos and gets lots of coordinates in comments but few people asking 'how do I download it': this audience wants it free and won't pay for it themselves; ④ conversely, if someone runs the same playbook in Arabic or Turkish and charts on Google Play, the opportunity is real, but that language is already taken.

### One line

A 'satellite scanning treasure hunting' app built by an individual developer in Albania: users draw an area of 10×10 to 100×100 meters on a map, and the server pulls public satellite data (Sentinel optical/SWIR, SAR radar, thermal infrared, DEM, plus 8 cm aerial orthophotos for Albania), stacks it into an 'anomaly heatmap' and numbered candidate spots, and deducts credits per scan. Credit packs range from $4.99 (2 scans) to $499.99. Users mainly come from the developer's own TikTok accounts: **users post coordinates in the comments, the account scans them with the app, and replies with a 'Replying to @xxx' video** . The target audience is treasure hunters and metal detecting enthusiasts in the Balkans, North Africa/Middle East, the Caucasus and East Africa.

### 1. Data (our database + web)

- Installs: 10,784 (Google Play database 2026-11-06), +804 in the last 7 days. Historical estimates from AppstoreSpy (app_day_ext): 2026-08-20 1,242 → 09-03 3,052 → 10-01 6,430 → 11-05 10,784. **It adds roughly 100–150 a day, very steadily, with no one-off spikes from chart pushes** . The higher single days were 09-03 (+290), 09-18 (+394), 10-04 (+328), 10-08 (+348) and 11-02 (+339).

- Charts: since 10-29 it has appeared daily on the **Top Grossing** chart for MAPS_AND_NAVIGATION in 17 countries, ranking #136–153 (my/ng/id/vn/hk/sg/in/sa/ae/th/ph/za/ar/tr/mx…). The category charts in these small countries are basically the same aggregated chart. The Maps Top Grossing charts in the Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia and Turkey storefronts are all filled up to #199, and the bar for around #140 is low. The US Maps Top Grossing chart only has 107 spots, and it isn't among them. So this chart only shows that it has steady in-app purchase revenue; it can't be converted into a specific dollar figure.

- Pricing: in-app purchases of $4.99–$499.99 one-time; the terms state the Try pack = 2 scans for $4.99, and used scans are not refunded (veldscan.com/terms).

- Rating: the store page shows no rating count (ratings is empty in our database), and the review sample is 0 reviews.

- Versions: 10-27 and 1.4,11-05 and 1.5 (added a live distance and direction readout to the target point while walking, satellite imagery dates and cloud cover in reports, UTM/MGRS coordinates). The official site also hosts a direct APK download (VeldScan-1.2.apk).

### II. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from VeldScan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Geo Vision VR3(dafin.online) | Web / Android (sideload) | Around 2025 (YouTube tutorial posted "11 months ago") | Official site claims 10k+ users; YouTube top-up tutorial 32k views | Mainly Arabic. Marketing claims "30 satellites + AI, detects up to 40 m underground, 20 cm accuracy," and the claims are bold. Paid top-ups that bypass Google Play billing. VeldScan goes the other way, repeatedly stressing "not ground-penetrating radar from space" and "results are only candidates." |
| Define Rota(definerota.com) | Web + phone | Not verified | Turkish treasure-hunting community (the name "define" is Turkish for "treasure") | Analysis runs on the web, with exports to Surfer/KMZ/GRD, aimed at Turkish users who already use professional software. VeldScan lets you draw an area on your phone, tap once, and get results. |
| SHAMAL-SAT(shamalsat.com) | Web service | Not verified | Not verified | Also pitches "satellite detection of underground voids/buried structures," backing it with user-reported finds. Closer to a manual or web service than a store app. |
| "الفحص بالأقمار الصناعية" on TikTok (@satellite.examination.7) | Manual TikTok service | 2026 | 15.6k followers | Manual "satellite inspections" around Algeria/Tunisia, paid by private message. VeldScan packages this as an app users run themselves, pay per scan. |
| PinPoint Treasure | Web / phone | 2026 | Not verified | English market. AI legend research + LiDAR, subscription at $9.99/month, aimed at European and American research-minded treasure hunters. |
| Detector Maps / Lodeline | iOS / Android | Earlier than 2025 | Aimed at gold prospectors in Australia, the US, and Canada. | Uses legitimate data: LiDAR, mining claims, geochemistry, historical mine sites. Doesn't do "underground anomaly scanning." Users are in developed countries. |
| TreasureHunter3D Visualizer, Noetic ScanAnalyzer | Android | Earlier than 2025 | TreasureHunter3D has 114 reviews | A companion app for its own hardware detector; makes money from device sales. VeldScan requires no hardware. |
| Magnetometer apps like "Metal Detector - Gold Finder" | Android | From ¥2021 | Top app with 17.7M installs (googleplay library) | Uses the phone's magnetometer, free with ads, essentially a toy. VeldScan sells remote satellite data at a much higher unit price. |
| Google Earth / Sentinel Hub / QGIS + Sentinel-2 | Big-company features / open source | Already around | Very large | The same data is free to get, but you need remote-sensing skills. VeldScan lowers the bar to "draw an area, tap once." |

Bottom line: **this category isn't empty** . The Arabic- and Turkish-speaking markets already have satellite treasure-hunting websites, apps, and manual services, which shows this audience will pay to "look at the ground from above." VeldScan's position: turn it into a properly listed app with Google Play billing, and serve long-tail users in the Balkans and multilingual markets with English and Albanian.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Owned main TikTok account @treasures.found (confirmed)** : 40.1k followers, 208k total likes, bio only says "📲 Download VeldScan (Android)." From 2026-07-21 to now, we captured 158 VeldScan videos, all posted from AL (Albania), roughly 1.7M views combined. By month: August 47 videos / 330k views, September 64 videos / 1.06M, October 43 videos / 290k (TikHub scrape).
    - **This account is a bought or repurposed old account** : the old videos from 2021 and 2026-05 through July are Philippine Mobile Legends gameplay (creator daisukeml, posted from PH, top single video 3.16M views). It switched to VeldScan only in 07-21. It was likely used to cold-start with existing followers and authority.
    - **The core of the content is "comment-section orders"** : most video titles are "Replying to @user." Users post coordinates or place names in comments, the account runs them through the app, and records a reply. The requesters' names suggest Algeria/Tunisia (houcineamara, djilalisaounassir, khaledzebiri, mouhannedmahjoub), Kosovo/Albania (bery05kq, bardhi.vreko, medin111_), Georgia (romakvirikadze), Ethiopia/Eritrea, Turkey (erzurguvenlik), and Yemen (coordinates 16.03,44.01). The top-viewed ones: 09-21 Albania Pogradec 246k, 09-03 Kosovo 147k, 08-12 55k.
    - A small install spike lines up with a viral video: on 09-03 they posted the Kosovo video with 147k views, and AppstoreSpy estimates +290 installs that day.

2. **Small-account matrix @treasurefound52 (confirmed)** : 7,820 followers, 283 posts, also from AL, bio also "Download VeldScan," doing the same comment-reply format (top single video 79k views). There is also an official account @veld.scan (97 followers).

3. **Content spread across platforms (confirmed, very small volume)** : YouTube @VeldScan has 69 Shorts and 78 subscribers, with "how to download, buy credits, scan" tutorials at about 1,000 views total. The Facebook page Veld Scan (61592626607610) posts Reels. There is also Instagram.

4. **SEO and multilingual website (confirmed)** : veldscan.com defaults to Albanian ("Shiko tokën para se të gërmosh" = look at the ground before you dig), with English landing pages at /satellite-scan/, /satellite-metal-detector/, /ground-anomaly-detection/, /skanim-satelitor/. The footer is stuffed with keywords like #LongRangeMetalDetector #GoldDetector. Softonic, CNET Download, APKPure, and AppBrain also list it.

5. **WhatsApp manual conversion (unverified)** : the recall card says the Facebook page links a Turkish WhatsApp number for manual sales. I couldn't check because Facebook requires login.

6. **Paid ads: none found** . Meta, Google, and TikTok ad libraries show no VeldScan ads. It isn't on our tracking list, so "not found" doesn't mean it isn't advertising. Searching "veldscan" on X returns 0 results.

### 4. Why it broke out

1. **The audience already pays, and pays big** : the Balkans, North Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Turkey all have deep cultures of "finding treasure/Ottoman gold coins." In the past, people spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on "remote detectors" or hired people for "satellite inspections." A few dollars per scan is a cheap try for them, and the $499.99 pack is for heavy users.

2. **TikTok comment orders are a content machine that spreads on its own** : users post coordinates → the account scans → the video shows an "anomaly near their home" → more people post coordinates below. The content costs almost nothing and naturally shows how the product works. They started with an existing 40k-follower old account.

3. **An "honest" positioning that earns trust** : competitors (e.g., Geo Vision VR3) boast about "40 m underground, 20 cm accuracy, AI," while VeldScan's site repeatedly says "not space ground-penetrating radar," "results are only candidates," and "don't buy without a detector," and offers a demo mode that doesn't deduct credits. This lowers its compliance risk on Play and is more convincing to users who have been scammed before.

4. **It turned a gray-market service into a properly listed app** : most competitors are websites, sideloaded APKs, or private-message payments. VeldScan uses Google Play billing, has a refund process, and charts in the top-grossing maps category in 17 countries. That alone makes people trust it more.

5. **Boosted by local data** : for Albania it uses 8 cm aerial orthophotos, which work best in its home markets of Albania and Kosovo. The two most-viewed TikTok videos happen to be from Albania and Kosovo.

### 5. Differentiation

- Compared with Arabic and Turkish competitors: **properly listed, uses Play billing, restrained language (candidate spots rather than "gold found"), pay per scan, and you can scan a drawn area on your phone** . Add bilingual English and Albanian, and it targets the Balkan market.

- Compared with Western legitimate prospecting tools (Detector Maps, PinPoint): the users are different. It serves the "treasure hunting" demand in developing countries, not prospectors who think in terms of mining claims.

- Is this differentiation **really why it's working? Partly** . Users come in through TikTok comment orders, which is a distribution play. But "honest candidate spots + demo + Play billing" lets it stay in the store long-term, keeps people paying, and avoids takedowns, and that's a product-level choice. The real moat is shallow: the backend is public satellite data plus fusion algorithms that anyone can build.

### 6. How visible it is (visibility)

- Revenue isn't public. It isn't on TrustMRR, nobody on X mentions it, and no media has covered it. What I could find is discussion in the treasure-hunting scene on TikTok and a few APK download sites. It's **something spreading in small circles** .

- Copycats: I haven't seen anyone copy a "VeldScan-style" Play app directly. But the category already has older players like Geo Vision VR3, SHAMAL-SAT, and manual "satellite inspection" services on TikTok. They compete in parallel, so this isn't copycatting.

### 7. What's worth borrowing

- **The "comment order → reply with a real product demo"** TikTok content model fits any tool where you enter a place, photo, or name and get a result (feng shui, soil testing, AI appraisal, and so on). It's built-in interaction, and it can be localized.

- Start with an existing old account that has authority, then add a small account matrix.

- High-ARPU "credit pack" pricing: offer a free demo first, then a $4.99 try pack, up to $499.99, using Play billing to build trust.

- **Deliberately restrained** in a gray category, treating compliance as a selling point (which also lowers takedown and refund risk).

- Start with high-precision local data from one small country, build word of mouth, then expand within the same cultural sphere.

### 8. What's still uncertain

- Actual revenue: a top-grossing rank of #140 in these stores has a low bar, so no dollar figure can be derived.

- Whether it runs ads (none of the three ad libraries track it), and whether the WhatsApp manual conversion works (not verified).

- October TikTok views dropped about 70% from September, but installs didn't fall. The channel filling the gap (SEO? Facebook? word of mouth?) is unclear.

- Google Play policy risk: treasure-hunting and detection apps are often removed for misleading features. I don't know whether it will get flagged.

- Why the store doesn't show a rating (too few ratings, or hidden).
