60 days, 1.59M installs, taken down today: LOKBOX is the latest new name for the pirated Southeast Asian film app Loklok
What it is An old pirated film app from Southeast Asia, Loklok, re-listed under a new package name and developer account. It offers free movies and long-running series, and makes money through in-app VIP purchases ($1–103) and ads.
Why it took off The Loklok website and old app pushed several million legacy users over to the new name "LOKBOX", and installs jumped by a dozen to 300K a day. In late October, dozens of lifestyle creators in Indonesia and the Philippines were also paid to post with the same set of tags to promote the new name.
EHow you could follow it Don't build a pirated film aggregator. What you can borrow is the playbook: keep brand and package name separate so you can move users to any new package, and at cold start have dozens of unrelated mid-tier lifestyle creators post with the same tag set at once.

On Google Play, LOKBOX looks like a new film app: listed in Sep 7, it got 1.59M installs in two months and squeezed into the top 100 of the overall grossing chart in Malaysia and Indonesia. In fact it's the latest package name for Loklok, an old pirated film app in Southeast Asia that was taken down. Its legacy users moved over in bulk, and that's what pushed the numbers up. In Nov 6 Play took it down. Below: what it is, where the traffic and money came from, who it's competing with, and why this is something you shouldn't follow.
Still being promoted on TikTok the day it was taken down
On Nov 6, a Philippine TikTok couple with 850k followers, _transfatherjackie, posted a daily comedy video with #LOKBOX in the tags. That same day, opening LOKBOX's Google Play page from the US, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nigeria returned 404.
Ten days earlier, on Oct 26, an Indonesian creator with 240k followers, rendi_gronnt, posted "my first time making mango chips" with 1.7M views. The video mentioned no film or series, yet the tags at the end were #shortdrama #pov #lokbox. Over those days dozens of accounts like this in Indonesia posted cooking, fence building, running small shops and eating Padang meals, with followers ranging from 30k to 2M, all with identical tags (a TikTok search for "lokbox" turns up 11-06).
Unrelated content with identical tags is a paid tagging campaign. The name it was pushing was already familiar to users from elsewhere.
What it is
In the store it's called "LOKBOX: Reel Haven", developer KuuMi Studio. The description is vague: "movies, series, TV shows, short videos, trailers, all in one place" and "browse what's available in your region", with no mention of where the content comes from.
Users just call it Loklok. Loklok has had large user bases in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines since 2022, selling free Korean dramas, US series and new films. In Oct 2024 the Motion Picture Association (MPA) publicly named it as a piracy platform, saying it was "repeatedly taken down from Google Play, and new ones quickly reappear" (Manila Bulletin, Philippines, 2024-10-24).
The evidence is on Loklok's own website: the iOS download page on loklok.com says "search for 'LOKBOX' on the App Store", and loktv.com does the same (checked 11-06). The package was also renamed twice on Play: first "LOKTV: Your Screen, Your Time", then "LOKBOX: Your Screen, Your Time", and in Oct 26 it became the current name (AppInsider's rename log).
Money comes from two places: VIP in-app purchases, $1 to $103 each, plus ads. Shopee and Lazada still have resellers selling "LOKLOK / LOKTV VIP one month" for 24,500 to 35,000 Indonesian rupiah, which shows users really are willing to pay.
Where the traffic came from: legacy users moving house
The install curve doesn't look bought with paid acquisition. It stepped up in jumps (AppstoreSpy estimates):
| Date | Total installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 09-15 | 3,281 | One week after launch, nothing much |
| 09-16 | 126k | One day up 120k |
| 09-25 | 624k | Then about 70k a day |
| 10-04 | 951k | +280k in one day, reaching #30 on the Indonesia free overall chart (AppInsider) |
| 10-08 | 1.27M | +310k in one day |
| 11-06 | 1.59M | From mid-October, only 0.5–16k a day |
Paid acquisition produces smooth upward curves. Step-function jumps look more like legacy users all moving to the new package at once when the old one stopped working. An Indonesian tech blog (ajakteman.com, 2025-12) described the process: the old Loklok showed an "update required" prompt, and after updating it wouldn't open, so users went online to ask what the new name was. On Reddit's r/loklokph someone asked "LOKTV has been renamed to LokBox, does anyone know...", someone posted "new Loklok app", and replies said "it's lokbox". Another commenter said the rename was a good way to shed people who had bought memberships (search result snippets). The single-day figures for 10-04 and 10-08 may partly reflect Play's counts refreshing in batches, so don't take them too literally.
The TikTok push came after Oct 24: first dozens of general lifestyle creators in Indonesia, then from Oct 30 Philippine creators. The 55 videos sampled add up to about 10.8M views. But over the same period Play only gained around 10k a day, so this push was probably driving more iOS installs (inference: the official site only points to LOKBOX on the iOS download page).
Two more routes: when users search "Loklok", near-name clones LOKBOX and LOKTV show up alongside it. The same developer email also runs two backup builds on the same template, "LOKBOX: Movies & Series World" (330k installs) and "LOKTV: DramaSpace" (105k). The main app 11-06 was pulled, but these two were still live that day. Each app's developer site is a different pinyin domain (lameipi.com, bamcheer.com, bokebaba.com), and the privacy policy sits on a Google Doc.
Something's off: it has 12,636 ratings but only 1 come with written reviews, and in the star breakdown the 2-star and 3-star counts exactly match the 0,1-star and 4-star counts (1,263 each). Looks like ratings were incentivized or inflated (unverified).
Some charts list it as a "Nigeria" app, but that's only because the Nigeria Entertainment Top Grossing #53 record was the last one left on the day it was pulled. Its real home is Malaysia (Apps Top Grossing #58–66) and Indonesia (#84–95), and it charted there every day from 10-29 to 11-05.
Who it's competing with
| Who | Scale | What's its link to LOKBOX? |
|---|---|---|
| Loklok:HD Movie&TV(Easevibe Dev) | 10.1M installs, +7k in 197 days, Philippines Entertainment Top Grossing #4 | Another shell from the same brand, same in-app purchase tiers, suspected same operator or affiliate, and it has lasted longer |
| LOKTV: Drama, Movie Space | ~6M installs in two months, 2026-08 delisted | The previous-generation shell. LOKBOX inherited its users |
| LokBox - Movies & Series(iOS) | Philippines and Malaysia Lifestyle Top Free #1 | The iOS version the website points to, filed under Lifestyle to dodge review |
| MovieBox family | 12M–17M installs each | Same kind of pirate aggregator, based in Nigeria and South Africa, also survives by swapping bundle IDs |
| Vidio, WeTV, iQIYI, Viu, Netflix | Top 70 overall in Indonesia and Malaysia Top Grossing | Legit, paid, catalog limited by region |
| DramaBox, ReelShort and other vertical short drama apps | Top 30 overall in Indonesia and Malaysia Top Grossing | Sells original vertical short dramas, not long-form film piracy |
There's also a group of copycats grabbing search terms with similar names: LokDrama, LokHub, LokBox - Media Player, LOKTV Pro, TVLok.
Why it could run, and why you can't get the same result
Three things made it work: the films were free and the catalog was huge (piracy); the Loklok name had millions of users in Southeast Asia who trusted the brand, not the bundle ID; and the operators controlled the website, old app pop-ups, Telegram and Facebook groups, so they could move those users to the new name in days, with spare iOS and Android builds kept on standby.
The people trying to copy this can't get any of those three. The content is infringing; the millions of existing users came from years of Loklok building its brand; and the migration machinery exists only to evade takedowns. The cost shows in its lifespan: LOKBOX lasted 60 days, and the previous LOKTV lasted roughly two months. The model is to move users and collect money while the app is still up, then start over with a new one.
If it were you
Verdict: don't touch it. It ran on pirated content and an old brand's existing users. You can't get either, and even if you could, it's a business the MPA has named and that gets pulled roughly every two months.
Who it could suit: Nobody should copy it. Two tactics are worth borrowing, and they fit a small team building compliant content apps in Southeast Asia (licensed short drama, audiobooks, comics, local-language dubbing).
Who it doesn't suit: Anyone planning a "free movies" aggregator. Whatever country or language, you'll hit the same wall: rights-holder complaints, store removal, and payment channels getting cut off.
Two tactics worth borrowing:
- Keep the brand and the bundle ID separate. Your website, community and in-app messages should be able to send users to any new app, because users follow the brand. This also helps compliant apps when an account gets banned, you change developer entity, or you ship different bundles for iOS and Android.
- A cold-start push under a new name can get dozens of mid-tier lifestyle creators unrelated to the category posting the same hashtags in the same week. Creators in Indonesia and the Philippines are cheap, and a few dozen posts can reach tens of millions of views (inference: fees not disclosed). Be careful, though: it's hard to see what the push actually did for installs, so test on a small scale and reconcile against download numbers before spending more.
Deadline: None. This is not an opportunity with a window.
Signs you've misread this: If a Loklok-family app ever gets a real licence or moves to a legitimate company entity, and stays listed on Play and the App Store for six months or more without being pulled, then cheap full catalogs in Southeast Asia may be possible in a compliant way, and it's worth looking again. Another sign: if a licensed platform like Vidio or Viu launches a free, ad-supported full-catalog tier while installs surge, demand is being met by legitimate players, and the opportunity lies in distribution and localization of licensed content, not in pirate shells.

LOKBOX: Reel Haven (com.veylo.voreya) research report
Channel: Google Play | Developer account: KuuMi Studio | Store launch 2026-09-07 | Research date 2026-11-06
Bottom line
LOKBOX isn't a new product. It's another shell: after Google Play pulled the Southeast Asian pirate video app Loklok / LOKTV, the operators changed the bundle ID and developer account and relaunched it. It reached 1.59M installs in two months by moving Loklok's existing millions of users over (the website, old-app notices, and word of mouth saying "Loklok is now LOKBOX"), plus a creator push in Indonesia and the Philippines on TikTok in late October. People stay because the catalog is free and large (piracy), with new songs and shows added. As of today (2026-11-06) this bundle has been pulled from Google Play, and the operators still have two spare bundles running the same template.
The data card says it targets Nigeria. That's wrong: its real home is Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The Nigeria Entertainment Top Grossing #53 is only the one chart record still standing on the day it was pulled.

1. What it is
- The store listing reads "movies, series, TV, short videos, trailers aggregation". The copy is deliberately broad ("Browse the titles available in your region") and never says where the content comes from (googleplay library
app.description). - Users call it Loklok outright. On Facebook Reels and TikTok it's called "LokTV, LokLok's successor". On r/loklokph someone asked "Since LOKTV has changed to LokBox…". On Threads an Indonesian user wrote "Loklok is back on Apple! Tapi namanya jadi "Lokbox"" (Jina search snippet).
- Official confirmation: loklok.com/download_nd/ios and loktv.com/download/ios both say "Go to the App Store, search for "LOKBOX" and download it". The page images load from the same CDN, img.loklok.top (Exa page text).
- Monetization: VIP in-app purchases at $1.00–$103.00 each, plus ads (
ad_supported=True; an iOS review complains about watching 3 minutes of ads without the video playing). Shopee and Lazada have resellers selling "LOKLOK/LOKTV VIP 1 months Rp24,500–35,000" and MOD versions (Jina search). - Background: the MPA (Motion Picture Association) 2024-10 named LokLok as a piracy hub, saying it "keeps getting pulled from Google Play, and new listings pop up soon after," and suspects it is run from mainland China and dodges enforcement through regional blocking (mb.com.ph 2024-10-24, search summary).
2. Growth data
Google Play library (collected daily from 2026-10-29)
- Installs: 10-29 is 1,506,271,11-05 in 1,586,199,7 days, +79,928; rating 11,842 → 12,636, steadily about +100 a day.
- On the charts (chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-05, daily):

- Indonesia: App Top Grossing overall #84–95, Entertainment Top Grossing #32–34, Entertainment Top Free #34–65
- Nigeria: Entertainment Top Grossing #49–55; Saudi Arabia: Entertainment Top Grossing #172–181
- 11-06 has only one ng record left;
gonetablelast_not_found=2026-11-06. I requested its Play page in the US, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nigeria storefronts, and all four returned 404 (verified this round). AppInsider also logged "6 Nov Removed from Google Play".
Curve since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate)
| Date | Total installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 09-15 | 3,281 | Nothing moved in the first week after launch |
| 09-16 | 126,117 | +120k in one day |
| 09-19 → 09-25 | 176k → 624k | About 70k per day |
| 10-03 → 10-04 | 673k → 951k | +278k in one day |
| 10-07 → 10-08 | 955k → 1.27M | +311k in one day |
| After 10-12 | 1.3M → 1.59M (11-06) | Back down to about 0.5–16K a day |
- Steps like this don't look like paid acquisition ramping up smoothly. They fit "old build gets pulled, existing users all switch to the new build at once." The single-day peaks on 10-04 and 10-08 may partly be Play's counters batching updates, so don't take the single-day numbers at face value.
- AppInsider: 10-04 Indonesia highest App Top Free overall #30; 10-08 passed 1M installs, 10-16 passed 10K ratings.
- Rename history (AppInsider): "LOKTV: Your Screen, Your Time" → "LOKBOX: Your Screen, Your Time" → 10-26 "LOKBOX: Reel Haven". So this package started under the LOKTV name and was renamed to LOKBOX along with the rest of the brand.
Anomalous ratings (unverified): of 12,636 ratings, only 1 have text; the star distribution is [1263, 0, 0, 1263, 10108], and the 2-star and 3-star counts are exactly equal to the 0,1-star and 4-star counts; AppBrain shows 10-17 at 5.0 with 9,148 ratings. This looks a lot like incentivized five-star ratings or rating inflation, though it could also be a display quirk on Play's side for new packages.

4. How users arrived
- Migration of old users (main driver, confirmed): the download pages on loklok.com and loktv.com tell users to search for "LOKBOX" directly; an Indonesian tech blog (ajakteman.com 2025-12) documented the process: the old Loklok build pops up an "update now" prompt, the updated app won't open, and users go looking for the new name. Reddit r/loklokph, Threads, and FB Reels are full of "Loklok/LOKTV is now called LokBox". The single-day jumps in installs (09-16 +120K, 10-04 +280K, 10-08 +310K) fit this mechanism.
- TikTok creator blanketing (paid placement confirmed, download effect not verified): TikHub search found about 30 Indonesian creators from 10-24 to 10-27 (followers 30K–2M, content about cooking, everyday vlogs, shop life, nothing to do with film or TV), all carrying the same tag set
#shortdrama #pov #lokbox, with individual videos getting 15K–1.7M views; 10-30 to 11-06 Philippine creators (_transfatherjackie with 850K followers, _tkpajares, plikigirl26, etc.) then posted#LOKBOX. The 55 videos sampled add up to roughly 10.8M views. Identical tags on unrelated content is a classic paid-tagging campaign. But Play only gained about 10K a day in those days, so this push was likely aimed more at the iOS build (the official site only points to LOKBOX on iOS). - Store search and name-riding: "LOKBOX / LOKTV" is one letter off from Loklok, so users searching for Loklok can find it; apps riding the name, like LokDrama, LokHub, and "LokBox - Media Player (世海 刘)", are also competing for the same search terms.
- Portfolio and backup packages (confirmed): one developer email is attached to 3 packages, each with a different pinyin-style developer website domain (lameipi.com, bamcheer.com, bokebaba.com), with privacy policies hosted on Google Docs. Easevibe's two Loklok packages also use domains like shanxixi.com and nieban.com. When the main package gets pulled, a backup takes over.
- Paid acquisition: not found in the metaads or tiktokads libraries (those two only track products on their watchlists, so finding nothing doesn't mean nothing was spent).
5. Why it took off
- Demand has been there all along: users in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines want to watch Korean dramas, US series, and new films for free; legitimate subscriptions are expensive and libraries are region-restricted. Loklok-family apps have had large user bases in these markets since 2022 (TikTok has plenty of "watch Netflix shows free with LokLok" videos from 2022–2025).
- Brand migration: every time an app gets pulled, the official site, the old app's in-app notices, community groups, and Telegram (t.me/loklokph) send users to the new name. LOKBOX started with hundreds of thousands of existing users arriving in bulk, and it hit 620K installs in two and a half weeks.
- It makes money: VIP in-app purchases plus ads; VIP is resold on Shopee, which suggests users really are willing to pay. It pushed into the top 100 of the Malaysia and Indonesia App Top Grossing charts, alongside legitimate platforms.
- New build, immediate creator blitz: in late October, dozens of general lifestyle creators in Indonesia and the Philippines were paid in a concentrated push to introduce the new name "LOKBOX".
- Very short lifespan: pulled 60 days after launch. The previous generation, LOKTV, lasted only two months (about 6M installs). This is a business built on "move users and collect the money before the app gets pulled."
6. Differentiation
There's no product differentiation. The core pitch is free, full libraries (pirated), plus the trust and habit carried over from the Loklok brand. Its real moat is operations: users follow it from one name to the next, it holds multiple packages and accounts, and it runs on iOS and Android at the same time. That's really why it works, but the approach rests on infringement, and a compliant product can't copy it.
7. How many people know about it
- The Loklok brand is well known: the MPA has named it publicly, there's heavy discussion on TikTok and Reddit, and gray-market resellers sell its VIP access.
- This particular package, LOKBOX: no media coverage. x-radar searches for "lokbox" and "loklok" return 0 posts over the past 60 days; revenue isn't disclosed; only data sites like AppInsider and AppBrain have indexed it.
- Verdict: it's talked about in small circles (passed along word of mouth in Southeast Asian user communities). It isn't an "unknown opportunity"; it's a new disguise for an old pirate brand.
8. Copycats
Yes, and plenty of them: LokDrama (com.loklok_showbox.moviebox), LokHub (iOS), LokBox - Media Player (iOS, 世海 刘), LOKTV Pro (iOS, IAN COOPER), TVLok, plus dozens of same-named MovieBox packages. They're all borrowing the Loklok and MovieBox names to capture search traffic.
9. What to borrow
- The compliant part: separate the brand from the channel. The official site, community groups, and in-app messages should be able to send users to any new package. Users follow the brand, not the package name.
- In low-cost markets like Indonesia and the Philippines, a cold launch can hit dozens of mid-tier lifestyle creators at once with the same tag set, pushing a new name out in one go.
- Prepare backup packages on both iOS and Android, so when one side gets pulled the other can catch the users.
- What not to copy: the pirated content sources. This playbook's ceiling is takedowns and legal risk, and the MPA is already watching.
10. Still unclear
- Whether Easevibe Dev's Loklok packages and KuuMi Studio's LOKBOX are run by the same operator: the IAP tiers, brand, and domain style all match, but there's no direct evidence.
- After 11-06 is pulled, which package will users be sent to (com.iris.aveno, com.neyvo.stream, or the new one).
- Revenue scale: all we know is that it reached the top 100 of the Malaysia and Indonesia App Top Grossing overall charts; the actual amounts are unknown.
- Whether the ratings were incentivized.
- Who paid for the late-October TikTok creator campaign, how much was spent, and how many downloads it drove on Play and on iOS respectively.
