A TV app with "no channels at all" got 150k installs in a week: a Vietnamese app factory layered another net on the big keyword IPTV
What it is An Android player where you import your own M3U playlist to watch live TV. No channels included. Free, monetized entirely by ads.
Why it took off "IPTV" is a perennial big search term on Play. Official players were being mass-delisted by rights holders, and European football season was pushing a crackdown on piracy, which amplified demand. A Vietnamese app factory spreading across many accounts, likely buying traffic, plus in-app prompts for rating, pushed it into the entertainment charts in high-CPM countries like Spain.
DShould you follow it? Not recommended to follow this category. What's worth learning is how it finds opportunities: watch big-demand categories where legitimate players get cleared out for compliance reasons, monetize with ads in high-CPM markets around the season, and use multiple accounts to spread takedown risk.

It ranked #23 on the Spain Google Play Entertainment Top Free chart: a player called IPTV Video Player: Live TV. It doesn't include a single channel. It launched in Sep 17 and added 150k installs in a week. The developer isn't a player-making team but a string of developer accounts under one person in a suburb of Ho Chi Minh City, which also push AI songwriting, AI interior design, a PDF reader and a cleaner tool. It gained traction because of the perennial big search term "IPTV," a category that rights holders had cleared out, and a factory-style launch approach, not because of the product itself. This piece explains how it rose and why small teams shouldn't bother following.
"Totally unusable, too many ads"
On Nov 4, a user named Ariel Mura left a review on the Spain store page: "es imposible usar esta app, demasiados anuncios, no la recomiendo, es falsa" (totally unusable, too many ads, don't recommend, it's fake). The same day, an English-store user wrote "Don't install this app, ads and only ads." The most-upvoted English review was from Oct 19: "very bad full of advertising," marked helpful by 78 people (Google Play, 11-06).
Bad reviews aside, its scores aren't ugly: 4.4 in the US store, and several ratings in the Spain store at 4.7,1,500 (Google Play, 11-06). That same week, its installs grew from 57k to 209k.
Why would Spanish users install a player that takes "your own source"? RTVE reported in Sep 6 that at the start of the new season, LaLiga, under a court order, had carriers block hundreds of suspected pirate IPs in real time before each round's kickoff, with up to 550 blocked at once in the first round. People watching "unofficial" live streams switch sources and players every weekend.
What it is
An M3U player for Android: paste a playlist URL or pick an M3U file to browse channels, search, favorite, view history, and use picture-in-picture. Free, ad-supported, no in-app purchases. The store description ends with a disclaimer: "This app does not provide or host any channels, playlists, or media content. Users must add their own sources and are responsible for ensuring they have the right to access them."
These features are standard for the category. Official players (the TiviMate, IPTV Smarters kind) have EPG guides, Xtream account login and TV versions; it lists none of them.
The developer is named Mee Game Inc, with "Inc" in the name, but the "About the developer" section on the store page lists a Vietnamese personal name, Kim Nhựt Trường, with an address in a commune of Củ Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City. The support email is a personal Gmail, the privacy policy sits on Google Docs, and the website mirandaglobal.vn is a single Vietnamese-language "Mobile Apps Studio" page (Google Play store page, 11-06).
How it grew
| Date | Total installs | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 57,389 | 434 |
| 10-31 | 88,773 | 642 |
| 11-03 | 165,952 | 999 |
| 11-06 | 209,435 | 1,500 |
(Google Play install counts, as recorded at the store's update points)
It barely moved in its first month: by mid-October, cumulative installs were just over 10k, and around Oct 27 about 57k (third-party estimate). After late October it suddenly accelerated, adding 152k in a week. It never entered the overall chart, only the Entertainment category Top Free chart, but it charted in 10 countries at once: in Spain it climbed from #10-29 at 110 to #11-06 at 23; Germany 120→67, Argentina 170→72, and also Indonesia, Nigeria, Thailand, Italy, Mexico, South Korea and Singapore, all between ranks 100–180.
Slowly climbing for a month, then jumping in steps, while spreading to 10 countries at once looks more like someone adding paid-acquisition budget than word of mouth spreading (inference).
Where users come from
Store search. "IPTV" is a perennial big keyword on Google Play, tied to people who want sports and live TV. The app's package name, title and description are stuffed with IPTV, Live TV, Smart, M3U, Player, the standard keyword pattern. Almost no trace exists outside the store: no media coverage, no reviews, and zero X results for "iptv player" in the past 30 days. What you can find online is only store pages and APK aggregator sites.
Official players got cleared out once. In 2026 during the March T20 Cricket World Cup, rights holder JioStar got Google Play and the App Store to remove 36 IPTV apps, including XCIPTV, Televizo and IPTV Smarters Pro, totaling 26M downloads (Storyboard18,2026-03-04). With the official players gone, search results were taken over by a wave of "neutral players." Apps with IPTV in their name or package on Google Play number 145 as counted in 11-06, and 55 of them launched in the past 4 months, mostly from 6 to October, which lines up with that takedown (its specific impact is inference).
Probably buying traffic. The stepped acceleration, simultaneous charting in 10 countries, and zero off-store content all match the pattern of running app promotion ads on Google. But no ad creatives from it turned up in public ad library records, unverified.
Ratings may have been prompted in-app. The star distribution is 1 stars 125, 2 stars 0, 3 stars 125, 4 stars 166, and 5 stars 1,083,2 with no 1-star ratings at all, and the numbers look suspiciously neat. Of 1,500 ratings, only a handful include text. It looks like a prompt in the app asking users for five stars (inference). One Spanish review from 4 says "me gusta pero dejan las historias incompletas" (I like it, but the stories never finish), which doesn't sound like a live TV player.
Where the money comes from
Ads only. No in-app purchases, no bestseller charting, and reviews complain only about app-open, interstitial and banner ads. People watching live TV sit for long stretches, and every channel switch can show an ad. Its best-ranked markets, Spain, Germany and Italy, also have high ad CPMs. The math of this business is "what one user pays you is less than the ads that user sees over their lifetime": a single app earns little, so you make money by running many at once (inference; no retention or ad revenue data is available, and reviews complaining about ad volume suggest retention is probably poor).
Behind it is an app factory
Under the same website domain (mirandaglobal.vn, and silvix.app, which shares the contact), 16 apps can be counted, spread across a dozen or so developer accounts, launched gradually from June 2026 to October:
- Mee Game Inc: this IPTV player, AI Home Design (737k installs), Melozi AI songwriting (632k, +148k in a week), Patrix AI image generation (125k), and the store listings also carry Vicado music videos, Voicera text-to-speech, and LumiCam photo editing
- Prop studio: Gene Ask AI chatbot (4.65M installs)
- Other accounts: six PDF readers / converters, ReClear cleaner (499k), AI video, AI language learning, and a second IPTV player (under an account called "PDF Reader Tools," launched in Sep 25, 14.6k installs)
(Install counts from Google Play, 11-06)
They pick categories that are all high-search-volume evergreens with easy-to-build features: AI chat, PDF, cleaners, IPTV. Launch several accounts in the same category, then pile budget onto whichever one catches. This IPTV account is one that caught. Whether these accounts belong to one legal entity isn't confirmed by registration records; only the domain and contact match (inference).
Who it's competing with
It is itself a follower of the trend.
| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamTV – Live Channels & TV | 2026-08 | 1.1M installs, +768k a week | Pakistani account, fastest growing this round |
| VizoTV, TVora, etc. | 2026-07~09 | Each in the hundreds of thousands to millions, +300k to +500k in a week | Same batch of white-label apps, growing faster than it |
| IPTV Smart Player - Online TV(LDream) | 2025-08 | 14.2M installs, +390k this week, #19 in Spain's Entertainment chart | Same template, launched a year earlier |
| IPTV Player - Smart Live TV(Metaverse Labs) | 2023-12 | 41.4M installs, charted in Nigeria's Top Grossing | Veteran, sells subscriptions |
| TiviMate, XCIPTV, Televizo, IPTV Smarters Pro | 2018–2019 | Several million to tens of millions | The category's legit leader, with EPG, account login and TV app; part of it was delisted in March |
| VLC, Kodi | Very early | Very large | Free, no ads, plays M3U too |
These 145 IPTV apps added roughly 6.05M installs combined this week, with the top one sitting around #10 among new listings (152k).
Risks
- Rights holders can clear you out at any time. March's 36 were pulled in one batch after a single complaint. A neutral player with a disclaimer can survive, but whether the next takedown sweeps up white-label apps too isn't up to you.
- The demand hinges on a one-time event. LaLiga's blocking rests on a court ruling from 2024 that covers three seasons and expires in Jun 2027 20 (RTVE, 2026-09-06). If it ends or changes approach, demand in Spain will shift with it.
- The competition is copycat factories. You're up against teams in Vietnam, Pakistan and India that run dozens of accounts and know their paid-acquisition payback cold.
If it were you
Verdict: Look, don't follow. This isn't a product opportunity, it's paid-acquisition arbitrage in a red ocean. The features are easy to copy, the moat is ad efficiency and account stock, and 55 similar apps launched in the last ~4 months are already chasing the same keywords.
Who it suits: Teams already running a matrix of tool apps on Google Play, holding several developer accounts, and able to model ad-revenue payback, who add IPTV as one more category.
Who it doesn't suit: Solo indie devs with one developer account (one takedown and you're at zero); people hoping to build a "better player" and sell subscriptions (TiviMate and friends already own that, and rights holders are watching); anyone unwilling to work in the copyright grey zone.
What you can learn:
- Look for categories with big demand, simple features, and legit players that get cleared for compliance reasons. IPTV is what opens up after legit apps get pulled by rights holders. Other categories have the same pattern: the few months after the legit players disappear are the window for white-label apps.
- Time your spend and pick countries around sports seasons and high-CPM markets. It ranks best in Spain, Germany and Italy, which lines up with the European football season.
- A matrix spreads the risk. Multiple accounts and multiple categories launched together: scale up whichever takes off, and losing one takedown doesn't sink the whole operation.
How to acquire users (if you still want to): Store search plus Google App Campaigns, with keywords loaded around IPTV, M3U, Live TV and Player. Test first in high-CPM countries like Spain, Germany and Italy, and check whether one user's ad revenue can cover what you paid for them within 30 days. If it can't, stop (inference).
When to move: The European football season is in progress, and mid-season falls around Chinese New Year. If you're going to do it, you need results within this season. The June 2027 expiry of LaLiga's blocking rights is a date to watch.
Signs you've read this wrong: ① This app and StreamTV or VizoTV are still growing two or three months from now, and one or two of them have charted in Top Grossing or added subscriptions. That would mean there's more here than ad arbitrage, with users who stick around. ② A new IPTV player that wins on EPG, TV app or other legit-style features, without buying installs, holds its place on the Spain chart. That would mean there's still room to build a product in this category. ③ The opposite: Google Play runs another batch takedown that sweeps the white-label apps too, and everything above loses value.

Data as of 2026-11-06. "Library" refers to our agent-im server's googleplay / googleads / metaads libraries; web sources include links.
Bottom line
It's not a product with anything distinctive. It's a Vietnamese tool-app factory (Miranda Global, shipping apps through a dozen-odd developer accounts including Mee Game Inc) piling another copycat IPTV player into an already crowded category. It rides the demand behind the big Play search term "IPTV", plus possible paid acquisition and in-app rating prompts, and earns from ads. There's essentially no differentiation. It grew because of category demand, distribution tactics and sheer volume, not because of the product. Among its peers it sits in the middle of the pack.
What it is
- An Android "bring your own source" IPTV player: import an M3U file or playlist URL, browse channels, favorites, watch history, picture-in-picture. It provides no channels (the store listing includes a disclaimer).

It sits around #10 at +152k, ahead of it are StreamTV (+768k, launched August), VizoTV (+506k, July), TVora (+322k, July) and others.
Competitors
There are a lot of products doing the same thing. On Play, "IPTV Player" is practically a single template category, with near-identical names, icons and descriptions:
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (library, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IPTV Smart Player - Online TV(LDream Limited Company) | Android | 2025-08 | 14.2M installs, +390k in 7 days, #19 in Spain's Entertainment chart | Same Vietnamese factory template, launched a year earlier, already scaled up |
| IPTV Player - Smart Live TV(Metaverse Labs) | Android | 2023-12 | 41.4M installs, charted in Nigeria's Entertainment Top Grossing | Established, with subscription revenue |
| IPTV Player - Smart Live TV(Betasoft Mobile) | Android | 2024-09 | 11.7M installs | Same template, a longer run |
| StreamTV – Live Channels & TV(COMPUTER TECH PK) | Android | 2026-08 | 1.1M installs, +768k in 7 days | Pakistani account, fastest growing this round |
| VizoTV / TVora / IPTV Stream & Live Channels and others | Android | 2026-07~09 | Each several hundred thousand to a million | All shell-company accounts from Vietnam, Pakistan and India, launched in waves from 7 through September |
| IPTV PLayer - Live TV, Replay (developer "PDF Reader Tools") | Android | 2026-09-25 | 14.6k | A second IPTV account from the same factory (developer site also mirandaglobal.vn) |
| TiviMate, XCIPTV, Televizo, IPTV Smarters Pro | Android / iOS | 2018–2019 | Several million to tens of millions | The category's legit leader, with EPG, Xtream login and TV app, sells subscriptions; 2026-03 was reported by JioStar and part of the catalog was delisted |
| IPTV (Alexander Sofronov), M3U IPTV, MaxPlayer | Android | 2012–2022 | A million to over thirty million | An older player built by a solo indie dev |
| VLC, Kodi, the open-source OwnTV and others | Open source / all platforms | Very early | Very large | Free, no ads, plays M3U too |
It doesn't lead on any feature: Xtream Codes login, EPG, TV app and screencasting are all absent from its listing. The selling points, "import M3U, favorites, history, picture-in-picture", are standard for this kind of app.
Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Store search for "IPTV" (demand confirmed, specific traffic sources not verified). "IPTV" is an evergreen big term on Play, driven by demand for pirated sports and TV. It ranks best in Spain, which matches local context: the 2026/27 LaLiga season brought renewed large-scale IP blocking against IPTV piracy (RTVE 2026-09-06: www.rtve.es/noticias/20260906/temporada-liga-vuelve-bloqueo-…; Computer Hoy: computerhoy.20minutos.es/dispositivos/los-bloqueos-las-iptv-…). Users switch sources and players often. Packing the package name, title and description with IPTV / Live TV / Smart / M3U / Player is textbook ASO.
- The platform purge opened a gap (the takedown itself is confirmed; its impact is inference): 2026-03 JioStar had Google Play and iOS pull 36 IPTV apps during the 20 World Cup, including XCIPTV, Televizo and IPTV Smarters Pro, about 26M downloads combined (Storyboard18 2026-03-04: www.storyboard18.com/ott-news/google-play-ios-purge-36-iptv-…; Velko: velko.tv/iptv-smarters-removed). Once the official apps were gone, search results were taken over by a wave of generic white-label "neutral" players. In our database there are 55 IPTV apps listed ≤120 days ago that are already gaining traction, and most of them launched in 6 2026–October, which lines up with the purge and the listing wave that followed.
- Paid acquisition (inferred, no direct evidence): installs curve up in steps (daily installs jumped from thousands to 1.5–26k at end of October), spread across 10 countries, and no organic content appears outside the store (item 5 below). That matches what Google App Campaigns (UAC) looks like. But our Google ad library only tracks products on our list, and this one isn't on it, so
adv_apphas no creatives for it; Meta's ad library doesn't either. Unverified. - In-app rating prompts (inferred): of 1,500 ratings, only 5 include text (table
app_snap.written_reviews). Star distribution [1★125, 2★0, 3★125, 4★166, 5★1083]. 2 stars is 0, and the counts at each level are close to round multiples, which looks like an in-app popup asking for five stars. The rating differs by region: US store 4.4, Spanish store 4.7. The most-liked reviews in the store are "very bad full of advertising" (10-19,77 people found it helpful) and "ads and only ads" (11-04). - Content, creators, social: none found. x-radar returned 0 posts for "iptv player" in the last ~30 days. Web search only surfaces store pages and aggregator sites (APKPure, AppBrain, Similarweb). No media outlet or review mentions it.
Where the money comes from
No in-app purchases, never charted in Top Grossing, so revenue has to come from ads (interstitials, app-open ads, banners; the "full of ads" reviews are about this). Viewers of live TV stay in the app a long time, and every channel switch can trigger an ad. It ranks high in European markets with high ad prices (Spain, Germany, Italy), where high eCPM is what makes paid acquisition pay off. The play is arbitrage: "acquisition cost < ad LTV". Each app earns little on its own, so the approach is to run many at once.
Behind it is an app factory (account network)
Developer sites on mirandaglobal.vn or silvix.app, and emails that are Vietnamese names on gmail. The database has 16 apps from these accounts, released between 2026-06 and October (table app):
- Mee Game Inc: this app, AI Home Design (737k), Melozi AI Song (632k, +148k over 7 days), Patrix AI Art (125k)
- Prop studio: Gene Ask AI Chatbot (4.65M)
- Others: 6 PDF reader/converter apps (PDF Reader Tools, Nympt Dev Studio, LionMen, Jushi Photo Editor, Theme Inc, Bus Love), ReClear cleaner (499k), VidGenix AI video, Talkati AI language learning, and a second IPTV player (under PDF Reader Tools)
- Every pick is an evergreen category with big search volume that's feasible to build: AI chat, PDF, cleaners, IPTV. Each category gets several accounts, and budget goes to whichever one starts to take off. This IPTV account is one that took off.
How many people have seen it
Almost nobody knows about it yet. Revenue isn't public, and no media, big X accounts, or Reddit threads have covered it. The only traces outside the store are automated aggregator sites. But the category itself is packed, with the same factory-style operators (shell companies in Vietnam, Pakistan, India): the database has 145 IPTV apps, 55 of which launched in the last ~4 months. If anyone is copying it, it's more that the category is copying itself, mass-replicated.
Differentiation
There's no differentiation. The features are a category template, and the naming and keywords match everyone else's. It works without differentiation because: ① demand for "IPTV" searches is large and evergreen, and the European football blackouts plus 2026-03's official takedowns amplified it; ② factory-style ASO, paid acquisition, and prompted ratings; ③ many apps launched across many accounts at once, so a few are bound to take off.
What others can borrow
- Look for categories with large demand, simple features, and where official apps were cleared for compliance reasons (the IPTV player space opened up after rights holders took down the official ones). An account that states a clear disclaimer and only ships a neutral player can stay in the store.
- Run paid-acquisition arbitrage in high-ad-price European markets (Spain, Germany, Italy), timed to sports seasons.
- Spread risk with an account network: run several apps in one category, so taking one down doesn't affect the whole. Put budget into whichever starts to take off.
- Small teams should weigh this carefully: it's arbitrage in a red ocean, and the moat is acquisition efficiency and a stock of accounts, not the product. A rights-holder complaint can take a whole batch of apps down at any time.
Unknowns
- Whether it buys ads and how much: our ad library doesn't track it, so there's no direct evidence.
- Retention and ad revenue: no data. Reviews complain about too many ads, so retention is probably poor.
- Whether the ratings were prompted: this is only inferred from the distribution and the share of text reviews.
- Whether the Mee Game Inc / Miranda Global accounts and the silvix.app accounts are the same entity: they share developer-site domains, and the same personal-name email appears under both domains, but no company registration was found.
- XCIPTV and Televizo, which were taken down, still have data in our database. They may have relaunched or changed stores, so discount the impact of the takedowns.
