Behind one short-drama app stand ten identical apps: how ShortFly Pro used paid acquisition to climb the Philippines Entertainment chart

What it is A free vertical short-drama app. You unlock episodes by watching ads, and it also sells subscriptions and coins. It targets the Philippines, Mexico and Argentina.

Why it took off The operator ran over 20k ads from one ad page, pushing ten reskinned packages at once. It put a batch of English and Spanish creatives on 10-31 and 11-03, installs jumped in step, and then it picked up a bit of store traffic from low-bar category charts.

CHow you could follow Don't make short dramas per se. Borrow the distribution playbook: split one product into several packages, put them under different accounts, run the same creatives together, and chase the charts first in emerging markets where acquisition is cheap and chart thresholds are low.

Grade C: it ran on a content library, big ad budgets and bulk account creation, which a small team can't match. The category has Kunlun, ByteDance and dozens of clones, and Google is also cracking down on clone packages. What's worth learning is the multi-package matrix plus chart-climbing in low-bar markets. ShortFly Pro has been live for 74 days, with 3.52M installs, and ranks #23 on the Philippines Google Play Entertainment Top Free chart 11-06. It has no hit drama of its own, and no one is organically recommending it on TikTok. It gets traction because behind it is a paid-acquisition machine: the same Facebook Page runs ads for ten short-drama Apps with different names, and ShortFly Pro is just one outlet. Below I lay out how the machine works, where the money comes from, and whether you should follow it.

A ₱550 charge

In 2026 Sep 16, Philippine user Ana Rañon saw a ₱550 (about $9.5) charge on her GCash statement. She left a one-star review on ShortFly Pro's store page: "I didn't know the subscription auto-renews, ₱550 every month. As soon as I found out I asked for a refund, and it was rejected."

Ten days earlier, a US user named Jamie B wrote: "There's an ad between every two episodes, and after you watch the ad, in the last few episodes it sends you back one or two episodes, so you can never finish the last ones. I watched a ton of ads and gave up." Another user, Diana Nachreiner, did the math: an episode is under 60 seconds, the opening replays part of the previous episode, leaving only 30–40 seconds of new content. "Sometimes the ad is three times as long as the show, and it's the same few ads over and over. I wasted 50 minutes on ads and deleted it." (Google Play reviews, September)

These reviews make clear where the money comes from: watch for free, make money from ads; to skip ads, subscribe or buy coins. The store page lists "contains ads, contains in-app purchases, $7.99–$29.99 per item".

What it is

A vertical short-drama app, the same kind of thing as ReelShort and DramaBox: one-minute episodes, with genres spelled out in the store description, "secret marriage, hidden identity, wealthy families, rebirth, revenge". The developer account is called Conservative Authority, went live 2026-08-24, and hasn't been updated since Sep 20.

Under the same account are three nearly identical packages: ShortFly (live 7-18, 4.47M installs), ShortFly Pro (3.52M), and ShortFly Max (launched the same day as Pro, 1.71M), 9.71M combined (Google Play install counts, 11-06). All three websites use one template. reelshortfly.com has index, index-pro and index-max pages, and the contact email is a personal Gmail.

How it grew

Start with the numbers. 10-29 it has 3.19M installs, 11-06 is 3.52M, up 337k in a week, 30–40k a day. The growth comes in jumps: 10-31 it added +153k in one go, then 11-03 +131k, and the next two days only +25k and +28k (Google Play install counts; the store refreshes only every few days, so the jumps include accumulated installs).

The timing of these two jumps matches when its ads went live. In the Meta Ad Library, a Facebook page called "PassionPro-Short" has run 19 video ads for ShortFly Pro, all still live: 10-31 first pushed a batch in English, "Super intense, never-ending dramatic plots full of shocking reversals 💥😱", then 11-03 and 11-04 pushed a batch in Spanish, "Trama emocionante sin parar🔥 Haz clic para ver todos los episodios ahora😍" (gripping plot without stopping, click to watch all episodes now). Some creatives have over a dozen versions in testing. The Spanish creatives went live at the same time it climbed to #33 on Mexico's Entertainment chart and #54 in Argentina.

But this page doesn't only run ShortFly Pro.

One page, ten apps

"PassionPro-Short" has only 4,700 likes. It started running ads on 2026-08-01, has run 20,301 ads in total, and had 442 live in early November. The apps it links to number 10, under 6 different developer accounts:

Other threads line up too. In the TikTok Ad Library (which only shows the European portion), an advertiser registered in China, "Zhengzhou Fengyuan Animation Co., Ltd.", runs 192 ads. The payer is TikTok's overseas agency Lightsail Power, and the landing packages include ShortFly, ShortFly Max and Halo Reels. The reelshortfly.com footer says "REVERIE STUDIO LLC", and the same footer appears on a string of short-drama sites like BonusTV, ReelMax and Revo Shorts. The "overseas short-drama app ranking" that circulates daily in Chinese overseas-expansion circles (amz123, data from shortdramadata.com) lists Halo Reels and Passion Drama as "Shanghai Jinrong Youzi group", with Nutri Plaza and medyem as its shells. ShortFly Pro ranked #23 in that chart's free short-drama overall list on Sep 26.

Several threads look connected: ShortFly, Halo Reels, BonusTV and Passion Drama appear to share one operator or one paid-acquisition setup. The most likely source is the one the charts point to, but which app is whose front can't be verified from outside (inference). The whole matrix totals about 90M installs, with over 7M new in the last week.

Why split it into so many packages

Splitting one app into "base / Pro / Max" and attaching each to a different developer account has several benefits:

  • More chart slots. In markets like the Philippines and Mexico, the Entertainment chart bar is low. A few tens of thousands of installs a day can get you into the top 30. Three packages mean three chart slots and three search results.
  • Hedging against bans. If Google takes down one account, the other packages keep running.
  • Testing creatives. One page, the same creatives fed into ten packages. Whichever package pays back fastest gets more budget.

The ratings are also a bit odd. 74k ratings with only 77 text reviews, about 1‰. FreeReels is 5.9‰, ReelShort is 26‰ (Google Play, 11-06). Many ratings with few written reviews usually means the app pops up a prompt that only asks for stars (inference; whether ratings are being manipulated can't be determined from outside). The store page's data safety section says "no data collected". An ad-funded app declaring that doesn't quite add up (inference).

Who it's competing with

This category is already crowded, in three tiers:

  • Big-company paid short drama: ReelShort and DramaBox each have about 300M installs, earning through paid unlocks and subscriptions, heavy on the US market, with original hit shows.
  • Big-company free short drama: Kunlun's FreeReels (246M installs, +3.64M in a week), ByteDance's Melolo (147M) and PineDrama (84M, about +3M a week). They go head-to-head in Southeast Asia and Latin America, and have already proven the free + ads model and the ad creative playbook.
  • Clone matrices: the ten in the table above, plus Coin Drama, FreeDrama, HotMini and dozens more, all paying for installs in the Philippines, Latin America and Indonesia to climb the charts.

Next to the big players, ShortFly Pro has no advantage in content library, brand or retention. Next to its sibling packages, it's essentially the same code with a different name. It's living off the traffic that spills over from paid acquisition after the big players have educated the market. And it's already declining: in Indonesia's Entertainment chart it fell from #24 on 10-29 to #111 on 11-06.

How visible it is

Revenue isn't public, no media has covered it, nobody discusses it on X, and searching "shortfly" on TikTok turns up no organic videos. Ordinary users don't know it exists. People building overseas short-drama apps all know it: ShortFly Pro and ShortFly Max appear on the daily industry rankings, and "X / X Pro / X Max" is standard practice in the scene.

If it were you

C. There's something to learn, but don't follow the app itself. This is a business of "content library + big ad budgets + bulk account creation", and ShortFly Pro is just one outlet of one machine. If you go in, you'll be competing head-on with Kunlun and ByteDance, and bidding against dozens of identical clones.

Who it suits: companies that already have short-drama rights or a content source, an overseas paid-acquisition team, and a few hundred thousand dollars in ad budget. Or people who just want to learn the playbook and apply it in other categories.

Who it's not for: indie devs and small teams without a content library. In short drama, the cost is in the show, not the app. Also not for anyone who hasn't run Meta or TikTok ads or can't work out each user's payback period.

How to do it: if you want to borrow from this, borrow the distribution playbook, not the dramas. Ship one product as two or three packs with slightly different positioning, publish them under different accounts, run the same creatives through the same ad account, and split budget by each pack's payback speed. Start with markets where chart entry is cheap and acquisition is cheap, like the Philippines, Mexico and Argentina, and use "ads + cheap in-app purchases" to handle low willingness to pay. Users also complain about the same three things in reviews: ads longer than the episode, being sent back a episode after watching an ad, and auto-renewing subscriptions that aren't explained clearly. Getting those three right on a free model is already a point of difference.

How to acquire users: vertical video ads on Meta and TikTok, using the most explosive twist from the show as the creative, one-line copy in the local language (see their Spanish ad). Test a dozen creatives in one country on a small budget, and make several versions of each creative that works.

When to move: there's no rush, and this window doesn't belong to small teams. If you're going to use the playbook in another category, the earlier the better, since Google is tightening review on repetitive content and clone packs.

What would mean you're wrong: (1) if the three ShortFly packs are still live before January of 2027 and keep shipping updates, the matrix is more stable than it looks, and the clone playbook lasts longer than expected; (2) if a small team with no big-company backing, not relying on paid acquisition, has a short-drama app adding hundreds of thousands a week in an emerging market, then short drama still has an angle that doesn't need a big budget; (3) conversely, if Halo Reels, ShortFly and the rest of that family disappear in batches within three months, the platform has closed this path, and even copying the playbook has to happen somewhere else.

Why ShortFly Pro (com.videoplayer.shortfly.pro) got traction

Channel: Google Play | Developer account: Conservative Authority | Store launch 2026-08-24 | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

ShortFly Pro has no real product edge. It's one clone in a Chinese-run ad-buying matrix of "free short drama" apps: the same operator runs a dozen-plus Play developer accounts under different names and copies one drama app in a basic / Pro / Max (Lite) tier pattern, then buys traffic for all of them from one Meta page and one TikTok ad account, mainly targeting the Philippines, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Indonesia, which are T3 markets. It gets volume from paid acquisition and matrix spray, not from the product itself.

1. Data (our googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

  • Global cumulative installs: 3,188,614 (10-29) → 3,525,317 (11-06), +337k in 7 days, roughly 3.5–40k/day. Measured from store launch 08-24, the average over 74 days on the store is about 48k/day, and it's slowing (on 11-05 and 11-06 it added only +25k and +28k).
  • Rating 74,203,4.69, but only 77 written reviews (about 1‰). Big peers for comparison: FreeReels 5.9‰, DramaBox 6.9‰, ReelShort 26‰, Melolo 21‰; within the same matrix, Halo Reels 1.6‰ and BonusTV Pro 3.0‰. Ratings are 2.1% of installs, which is high. It looks like the in-app prompt only asks for a star rating (possibly rating inflation, not verified). ShortFly and ShortFly Max under the same account show 0 at the 2-star level, which also looks unnatural.
  • Charts (11-06): Philippines Entertainment Free #23 (hovering between #20 and #28 since 10-30), overall app chart #79; Mexico Entertainment #33; Argentina #54; Hong Kong #64; Singapore #80; Brazil #82. Thailand and Philippines Entertainment Top Grossing #118. Indonesia is slipping: Entertainment went from #24 on 10-29 to #111 on 11-06.
  • Monetization: ad_supported = True, plus in-app purchases at $7.99–$29.99 each. It's a hybrid free short-drama model of "ads + coins/membership." No updates since 2026-09-21 (1.0.4).
  • Under the same developer account there are 3 packs with 9.71M installs combined: ShortFly (launched 07-18, 4.47M, +322k in 7 days), ShortFly Pro (3.52M, +337k), ShortFly Max (launched 08-24, 1.71M, +359k). The three packs share identical descriptions and website templates (reelshortfly.com splits into index / index-pro / index-max pages), and the contact emails are personal Gmail addresses ([email protected]).

2. Who's behind it: a cross-account matrix

Of these, 19 ads promote ShortFly Pro and all are live, with start dates from 10-31 to 11-04. The English copy reads "Super intense, never-ending dramatic plots full of shocking reversals," and the Spanish copy reads "Trama emocionante sin parar🔥 Haz clic para ver todos los episodios ahora," which matches the chart positions in Mexico and Argentina.

2. TikTok Ad Library (tiktokads.advertiser, only European ads visible): the advertiser "Zhengzhou Fengyuan Animation Co., Ltd." (biz_id 7637090378138746896, registered in China), with payments made by Lightsail Power Technology Company Limited, the outbound agency for TikTok for Business that handles general entertainment advertising (tiktokforbusinessoutbound.com/partners/17640). It started running ads from 2026-06-10 and has 192 ads live now. Landing apps include ShortFly, ShortFly Max, Halo Reels, Vega Drama (com.viewshort.mobile) and Mova TV (com.drama.movatv).

3. Website footer: the reelshortfly.com footer reads "All rights reserved. 2026 REVERIE STUDIO LLC." The same footer appears on a string of short-drama sites including BonusTV (bonusdrama.com, which lists SHORT DRAMA CO., LIMITED with an address in Wan Chai, Hong Kong), ReelMax (shortreelmax.com), Revo Shorts and TopDrama (Jina search for "REVERIE STUDIO LLC"). An industry daily also lists the developer of Vela Reels Pro as REVERIE STUDIO LLC.

4. Industry attribution: the "overseas short-drama app rankings" that amz123 reposts daily (data from shortdramadata.com) list Halo Reels, Passion Drama and MixReels in the free short-drama chart under the "Shanghai Jinrong Youxi" family, with Nutri Plaza, medyem and Nathanwaltersdev as its shells. ShortFly Pro / Max, AnyShort, DramaOL and Drama World also appear on the same chart, but only with their store developer names, with no parent company noted. (2026-09-26: ShortFly Pro ranked #23 in the free short-drama overall chart; 2026-10-16: ShortFly Max #24, ShortFly Pro #47.)

Judgment: several threads corroborate each other. They share a Meta page, share a TikTok advertiser (represented by the same agency), use the same REVERIE STUDIO LLC website template, and launch on the same cadence (Pro and Max on the same day, Halo Reels Pro and Max on the same day). So the ShortFly family, Halo Reels, BonusTV and Passion Drama likely belong to the same operator or the same outsourced ad setup. Per the industry daily, the most likely parent is the "Shanghai Jinrong Youxi" family; "Zhengzhou Fengyuan Animation" is one of the entities used for TikTok ads. The operator's exact identity is unverified. The whole matrix currently totals about 90M installs, adding 7M+ a week (our library).

III. Competitors

They're all doing the same thing: vertical short-drama streaming. The category is already crowded:

  • Big-company paid short dramas: ReelShort (Crazy Maple, 2022B installs), DramaBox (Dianzhong, 2023B), NetShort (162M), ShortMax (131M), GoodShort (99M). They run paid unlocks plus subscriptions and are heavily focused on the US.
  • Big-company free short dramas: FreeReels (Kunlun Wanwei, 2024-11.2B, 7 days +3.64M), DramaWave (Kunlun, 152M), Melolo (ByteDance, 2024-11.1B), PineDrama (TikTok, 2025-1.28B, 7 days +3M). Mostly ad-unlocked, pushing hard into emerging markets.
  • Same-type clone matrix: Halo Reels (three packages, 07/August launch, 26M combined), Drama World / Pro, BonusTV / Lite / Pro, Coin Drama, FreeDrama (Kuku), HotMini, and more. There are dozens of them, all buying installs in the Philippines, Latin America and Indonesia to climb the charts.

Compared with the big players, ShortFly Pro has no advantage in content library, brand or retention, and no public evidence of hit original shows. Against its sibling packages in the same matrix, it is basically the same code with a different skin and name.

4. Growth levers (evidence)

  1. Meta paid acquisition (confirmed): see above. The page has run 20k+ ads in total, and ShortFly Pro's 19 live creatives clustered from 10-31. Two later install jumps (10-31 +153k, 11-03 +131k) line up in time (store install counts refresh only every few days, so we can only say the timing fits).
  2. TikTok paid acquisition (confirmed, via the same matrix): Zhengzhou Fengyuan Animation runs it through Guangfan Power. Our library only sees the European spend, which lands on ShortFly and ShortFly Max. TikTok campaigns in Latin America and Southeast Asia aren't visible here, which doesn't mean they don't exist.
  3. Matrix padding (confirmed): one app split into base / Pro / Max packages, listed under different developer accounts. This takes more chart and search slots, spreads ban risk, and makes creative A/B testing easier.
  4. In-app prompts for ratings (suspected): many ratings, very few text reviews, and a very high average score.
  5. Web / APK distribution (weak): Uptodown, APKPure, AppBrain and CNET have auto-generated pages. On Reddit's r/ReelShorts someone asked "Where to watch Shortfly app dramas," and a search snippet says "This is the BEST ai drama ive seen," suggesting its shows may be AI-generated (original post 403, not readable, unverified). TikHub search for "shortfly" returns 0 videos, x-radar 90 in the last 0 days: no evidence of organic content or creator promotion.

V. Why it took off

  • The category itself is hot: free short dramas are a big wave in emerging markets, 2025–2026. ByteDance (Melolo / PineDrama) and Kunlun (FreeReels) each add several hundred thousand users a week, which educated the market and proved the short-drama creative playbook on Meta and TikTok. Clone packages ride behind them, living off the traffic that spills over from paid acquisition.
  • The ad machine: one page with 20k+ ads, one TikTok entity with 192 live ads, and a batch of creatives feeding a dozen-plus packages at once. ShortFly Pro is one outlet of that machine.
  • Market choice: the Philippines, Latin America and Indonesia have low CPI and low bars for climbing entertainment category charts. A few tens of thousands of installs a day can put you in the top 30. Once charted, you also get some organic store traffic.
  • Monetization: ads (ad_supported) plus $7.99–$29.99 in-app purchases. It has appeared around #110 on the Entertainment Top Grossing charts in Thailand and the Philippines, so there is some paying, but it's small. Payback mainly comes from ad revenue plus a little IAP; the actual ROI can't be seen (unverified).

VI. Differentiation

Basically none. To users, it is the same thing as Halo Reels, Drama World and AnyShort, and some of it may even be the same content library. It got where it is because of the operator's paid-acquisition muscle and the matrix playbook, not because of anything different in the product. The only real "approach difference" is running base / Pro / Max packages in parallel, plus cheap buying in T3 markets. That's a distribution-level move, and the barrier isn't in the product.

7. How visible it is

  • Revenue isn't public. No media coverage, no X discussion (x-radar 0 posts), and no organic TikTok content.
  • But within the China-going-global short-drama circle it is already being watched: the daily rankings on amz123 / shortdramadata.com list ShortFly Pro / Max under "free short dramas." People in the industry know this is the matrix-clone playbook.
  • Copycats: this playbook is itself a product of copying. Similar "X / X Pro / X Max" matrices already abound: Halo Reels with three packages, BonusTV with three, Passion Drama with three, Drama World with two, plus Kuku's FreeDrama, Tera Link's Coin Drama and others.

VIII. What to take from it

  • One app split into several packages, with several developer accounts buying installs at once: more chart slots, and a hedge against takedowns.
  • One ad page and one ad account feeding several packages, sharing creatives, splitting budget by package, and shifting money to whichever package has the best ROI.
  • Choose low-barrier markets (entertainment category charts in the Philippines, Mexico, Argentina), and use free plus ad monetization to offset low ARPU.
  • Risk: Google Play cracks down on duplicate content and clone packages (spam / repetitive content policy). Industry dailies have also flagged DramaBox being pulled from iOS, and platforms are tightening review. None of ShortFly's three packages has been updated since Sep 21, so its lifespan may be short.

9. What I'm still unsure about

  • Who the operator actually is: how Shanghai Jinrongyou, Zhengzhou Fengyuan Animation and REVERIE STUDIO LLC relate, or whether several clients of Guangfan Power happen to share the same page (less likely).
  • Content source: in-house production, licensed, AI-generated or pirated, none of this is verified.
  • The scale of TikTok / Google UAC spend in Southeast Asia and Latin America isn't visible. Whether the ratings are inflated can't be verified either.
  • Real revenue and ROI are unknown.
